Ironworks Cafe & Creperie in Nanaimo

We just had our staff holiday party with breakfast from Ironworks and they were AMAZING - delicious crepes, the large order was perfect and well organized, and the team as a delight to communicate with. Thank you so much!!!

I attempted to place an order with this restaurant through DoorDash around 3 PM on December 20, 2024. Surprisingly, it showed the restaurant as closed, even though Google listed their hours as open until 4 PM. I called the restaurant, and they assured me all their delivery apps were active and suggested that perhaps DoorDash is closed, which didn t make sense. To double-check, I switched to Uber Eats, added my items to the cart, and at checkout, it once again indicated the restaurant was closed. It left me wondering are the big food delivery platforms refusing to deliver for this restaurant, or is there an issue on the restaurant s end? This experience was frustrating, to say the least, and I hope it gets resolved for future customers. Also called Door-dash to confirm if they are *closed* or if there is any technical error but everything was working all fine and told by the rep its the merchant who is not accepting the orders.

We had crepes and coffee both, and we were served with promptness and kindness, the workers helped us with anything we needed or wanted. The food was amazing and we got it really fast! Our coffees had cute designs on them! Ive never been disappointed when Ive gone to ironworks and this was no different. I will warn if you go at lunchtime it can be real busy but thats expected for somewhere so delicious!

Stopped in off the street spontaenously while I was waiting for my partner to finish an appointment and wasnt disappointed. I had the spinach, artichoke, and brie on buckwheat and it was delicious. Beautiful presentation and nice atmosphere. Would recommend!

We ordered the breakfast savory crepe. Second in line to be served crepe so it wasnt that busy yet. However the woman who worked on September 2nd served our food cold. We were disappointed because we also ate breakfast there a day before that and the crepe was piping hot and just perfect. However the second time we went was a total disappointment. We barely touched the food. I was kind worried the egg was a bit runny. Anyway I just hand her back the plate of cold food to throw away, lost appetite after that.

This is a great place. Its my number 1 choice of coffee shops in downtown Nanaimo. Id like to see a little more choice in the menu, but its a really nice place. The only issue I have is that its too small. Because its so nice, its always full. Seating isnt always available.

What can I say I went there with my six kids ( I have beautiful 4 daughters and my baby boys sons) and we decided to buy a crepe for each of us. I am vegetarian, my oldest daughter is allergic to dough, my other one, gorgeous Bonnitta is allergic to bananas. Samantha ( my third oldest) is allergic to mushrooms, Nania is allergic to cheese. My beautiful son s twins are both allergic to meat. AND YOU KNOW WHAT?! WE ORDERED CHICKEN MUSHROOMS CREPE AND ALL OF MY KIDS EXCEPT my beautiful daughter Bonnitta GOT SICK TO THE POINT THAT WE NEEDED TO CALL AN AMBULANCE!! NO EMPLOYEE TOLD ME THAT MUSHROOM CHICKEN CREPE HAD: MUSHROOM, MEAT, DOUGH, CHEESE! Now I am sitting next to my kids in the hospital bed because of this! Anyways the crepes were good.

Crepes were much tougher and thicker than places weve had french crepes at before (and compared to at home). Id call these a pancake crepe hybrid. Gimmicky but fun for the kids. Coffee/espresso was better than average.

This is my first time in Nanaimo and wanted to try something new and this is for sure a top breakfast spot. The apple crumble crepe was to die for, same with the peanut butter and banana one my boyfriend had. The crepe itself is so filling, which is different from the smaller scale ones we get in Alberta. I wish we would ve sat in instead of delivery!!

The food my friend and I tried were really good. The crepe was delicious. It was filled with spinach, brie, and bechamel sauce it was very tasty. Staff were kind to us as it was our first day exploring Nanaimo island. We took hullo ferry to get there and the free shuttle bus to the main parts of town. We really enjoyed parts of downtown Nanaimo and being able to walk around the parks and such. The atmosphere in the Café was friendly, inviting, and clean.

I had a yummy raisin cookie and tea. She was patient while I looked at the menu. I asked what she recommended in tea. So good.

My friend and I always go on a run and then immediately run to get crepes at ironworks! We usually split a sweet crepe and a savoury. The service is always fantastic and the food is always delicious. I will be continuing my crepe running rituals. Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free, veggie and vegan options.

Probably the best crepe Ive personally had would definitely recommend. Only problem was that it was a little too much sugar but thats a personal problem and not something that should be taken away from anyone else Still a 5/5 for the food alone, the service was excellent on top. Very friendly, really enjoy how they help and chat with the elderly (but that also feels like a local thing since Im from our of town) Great place, go check it out

I had the Banana & Nutella crepe, was lovely. Parking: If you are lucky, you can park free for 2 hours on street, but not in the middle of downtown, street parking is available but for a fee. Maffeo Park is a short walk away and free for 3 hours.

If you are looking for Amazing Coffee (Drip or specialty) a fluffy treat, combined with AMAZING service, then please eat here! I work just up the street from their location and order pretty often and I got to say the service food and drink here is just outstanding! Aria and Charlotte especially deserve shout outs, even though EVERY one who works there is amazing, these two I have had the beautiful pleasure of being served by and when I say they go above and beyond I truly mean it! You wont regret choosing here next time you are looking for a great place to eat!

Cute little crêperie with a great selection of sweet and savoury crepes. The staff was friendly and service was great. I don t normally eat out for crepes as I never think it s really worth the value but the portions here are very generous and I was very impressed. We ordered the Oreo espresso crepe, tropical dream and spinach, artichoke and Brie crepe. All were really delicious! Will definitely be back again. Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu for kid portions but we re happy to accommodate and put sprinkles on a regular crepe for my toddler

Visited the Nanaimo location for brunch with my mom today. Although I work close by, this was my first time in. The service was excellent, and went beyond expectations for vegan options for me. We each had coffee flights and crepes. I was thinking it would be more like a snack, but it was surprisingly filling at kept me going all day at work. Will definitely be back!

Im homeless, this wonderful lady that owns iron works literally woke me up when I was sleeping on the street and told me nicely get to iron works I will give you coffee and breakfast, support her.

I came in and forgot my wallet and ordered pickup, it was made immediately and absolutely delicious, the people working the crepes are super friendly and helpful!

Easily one of my wife and Is favourite places to dine out. I normally have my Mexican breakfast crepe (well, 90% of the time), and I always enjoy a coffee with my meal -- the best local coffee (in my opinion). Always quite busy, so we hope we can grab a table to enjoy a meal.

I think the bacon could have had a little more crisp to it, but it was a good, thick, meaty bacon very satisfied with my breakfast date to this establishment. Music was a little loud and skip drivers kinda pushy, but thats not a big deal in the end

The Oreo Espresso Crepe that we ordered was straight up sinful. So good. It was a freshly made crepe topped with Oreo cookie crumble, a dollop of whip cream, and generously stuffed with their Oreo espresso cream cheese filling. 10/10 would eat that again. I also ordered a dark roast drip coffee, and even though they were all out, they had no problem making me a fresh batch. The coffee, crepe, and service were all excellent. Id come back again for sure.

This place has a mouse problem I saw a mouse while I was there and my experience there was horrible. I would not recommend this place.

It was a yummy experience. On top of that they made sure all our dishes were to our liking and even remade our coffee so it was at the perfect temperature when we asked for it to be reheated. Simply put, Great customer care.

Amazing place to get well made food. The taste and freshness is so good. Parking Is quite ample for weekend when parking is free and there is a public parking complex nearby which is also free on the weekends. In the weekdays can be quite troubling. The coffee is so good and complex which is much better than most coffee shops. Sitting place can be quite busy as its quite a popular spot. All in all god place to get food and coffee.

Im celiac and was planning on going to Wild Poppy on a Sunday but they were closed so I tried Ironworks and I was so impressed. Not only by the amazing options both GF and normal but also how great the taste and quality was. Service was amazing, my mums cappuccino was amazing (and shes picky!), my Italian soda wasnt over sweet, and the crepes were craveable. I will absolutely be going back and would 100% recommend it to gluten-free people and everyone else!

Savory and sweet from fruit to meat all in thin tasty blankets! My favorite creperie on the island. I love the options of flavors and types. They often run a tasty seasonal and time limited special as well. Ive yet to be disappointed by the food. A solid and tasty crepe mixed with well made ingredients is a win in my books. For an idea of variety you can go decadent with aac and cheese crepe ( I recommend adding bacon ) or you can go light and fluffy with a tasty fruity crepe. Of course some fruits are seasonally locked but the ones they have are complimented well by the crepes. Staff are always friendly any time Ive been there and give you a good expectation of time for food to be ready especially if its a food time rush. Prices are moderate at about $15+ for crepe. More for add-ons or specialties. They do have kid menu options for less as well. Last time I went here was just after lunch time rush and while they were understandably busy I noted some countertops were unfortunately dirty. This worsened my atmosphere score. Overall, a lovely place for breakfast or brunch with staff that happily feed you quality food!

I want to like it but it was really disappointing. I had the gf/df option, flavour was really lacking. It was just like a really grainy thick pancake, very plain. I think if the dairy free whip was utilized more instead of the df yogurt maybe it wouldve been better? I had the same gf/df in the past but savoury and was similarly disappointed. Staff was very kind tho and I think they did what they could with what they had. Im certain the regular crepes are fine. *Reply; I still wasted $14 hopeful the first time was just a doozy. I dont want other gf/df people getting their hopes up, it could be done better. There are many other lighter flour options, and skimping on toppings doesnt help. I see some others had similar criticisms..

This is the place to go for a superb crepe breakfast! Coffee was fanatic and the seafood and breakfast crepe were fantastic. Will definitely go again if Im passing through.

The choices of crepes seemed endless! LOL They were extremely yummy and the portions generous. The staff were very gracious and speedy. I highly recommend them!

Came with the family. Got a couple of breakfast crepes and a four berry. They were great and quick to serve. They are very good sized proportions, so come hungry. Atmosphere is simple tables, a few window bars, and counter service. Staff was very friendly. Drinks are served in quirky coffee mugs, which was fun.

I rarely give a negative review. My order was somehow lost and the guy that took my order didnt even remember despite there only being one other table at the time. I waited over 30 minutes and the guy didnt seem apologetic. I ordered the Mexican crepe and it felt like there was too much Chipotle sauce in it, otherwise the crepe itself was a pretty good texture. Unfortunately I dont recommend this place.

Ignored for 5 mins on entering, called out, still ignored, finally order and then waited with another 5 people for 30+ minutes while Tammy and a heavy set woman gabbed and chatted instead of acknowledging any of the customers waiting patiently for their already ordered food, finally one couple asked for a refund and then I asked for a refund for my partner and I while the staff complained about the system being the problem, stop chatting and pay attention to your job, if 5+ people are sitting in your restaurant it s not because we love the stories you tell each other, we re here for food and if NOBODY is eating, someone should probably wonder why that is.

Decent food, side salad was a pleasant surprise. Ordered the ham and swiss crépe. The price for the food was a little high for what you get, and the option to add toppings or double them or whatnot wasnt something that I would have known from the menu, I discovered that later in the DoorDash app. If I could make a suggestion it would be to diagonally slice the crépes in half and stack them just a bit overlapped for presentation, and consider making a modest effort at top sauce gratis for dine-in customers, since they pull in the foot traffic from the road. Service was a little strained, mainly because the cook was the one constantly approached by walk-ins, being the first station nearest the door - having the cook station there confuses order flow so much. The music was better suited to a commercial prep area and didnt have a crépe diner appeal for the patrons. Chairs were uncomfortable and made me want to eat and leave quickly. Lovely location on the rainbows crosswalk downtown, great place to peoplewatch while eating. Overall there is a ton of potential here and the food was decent, so Ill be giving it another shot, likely with all the extras I just learned about in the doordash app.

I had the breakfast crepe and my wife had the butter chicken. They were both excellent. There is only one cook. When we got there we were order 93 and they were on 83. It took about 40 minutes to get our food. Luckily we were not in a rush but something to think about. If it is busy and a lot of folks in line expect to wait a while or perhaps ask before you buy. This isn t a fast food restaurant

These are fabulous crepes, with so many options for dietary restrictions (offering gluten free, keto, and whole wheat vegan) though I just want their delicious classic batter. I come to Nanaimo for a week every year, and must stop here 2 or 3 times each visit. They also just introduced a Flight Meal to try 4 different mini lattes.....so good! DELICIOUS crepes. My partner and I had the breakfast crepes, I had a chai latte, and he had an iced matcha latte. Everything was amazing. Delicious, prepared fairly quickly, served hot, absolutely amazing! I cant wait to come back and try some sweet crepes, or something from their Monthly Specials menu! Would absolutely recommend. I also see they have a coffee flight, you choose 4 of their specialty coffees to try. Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian crepe options, all of the sweet crepes look to be vegetarian, and the savoury crepes have at least one option I can see, if not more. Kid-friendliness: Its spacious, the food would likely be enjoyed by kids, the atmosphere is not too busy! Theres parking close enough, at the right time of day, that you dont have to walk too far with little ones.

Ordered take out for breakfast one morning. Tons of options to choose from. Service was fast and friendly when I arrived to pick up. You could tell that they were busy, but they made the effort to greet me and make me feel welcome. Breakfast was incredible - even after the 15 min drive to get it home. Really looking forward to dining in and trying the tea/coffee flights

Me and my bf have been to the ladysmith location a few years back for our first anniversary together and loved it and just found out there was a Nanaimo location! we just went there for our 5th anniversary and the food was amazing as we remembered! We shared the berry and cream crepe and the breakfast crepe and both were delicious, service was fast and friendly, the overall experience was amazing and we will definitely be back!

Very popular place! There are a lot of people, and it is clear that the employees are really busy. But one or two places are always free. Breakfast costs $16.50, green tea $2.50, latte $3.95. You can ask for a glass of water, and there is an excellent washroom. We recommend!

Such yummy crepes! I had the Mac and cheese savory crepe and split the strawberry nutella. Both were so delicious and filling. It is small inside with not many tables so make sure you get there early on a weekend. We also had coffee flights! Cant wait to come back again. 45mins for a crepe is laughable, the worst cafe Ive ever been in, needs either a new system for the staff to learn or new staff, whatever theyre doing isnt working, disgusting coffee too, 30min wait for a latte and Americano

The best crepe Ive ever had. Please avoid going on weekends, it will be very busy on weekends and you will have to wait about 15 minutes to order and 40 minutes to wait for food.
