Took my Grandbabbies for breakfast for dinner last night. We should have left when they said they didnt have any crayons! There was maybe 10 people in the restaurant & the service was very slow. Kids drinks did not look like the picture which always disappointing for kids. Pancakes were dry. How can a breakfast place screw up pancakes???? This one did. Will not go back.

This is my go-to local restaurant. Good basic food such as burgers, sandwiches, soup, and dinners. They all serve all-day breakfasts.

Its absolutely horrible. Extremely loud, dirty floors, food took over an hour and it was wrong when it finally came. Then they still wanted us to pay for it even though it was wrong and not eaten. Never again!!!

Fantastic hot turkey sand and Philly cheese sand. All was perfectly served and cooked perfectly. Service was excellent with refills at the right time. An oasis in the desert. Will return here soon. Finally a restaurant with great food and service with fair prices. Here again April 24, Mary was our server, had the best hamburger steak in the world. Massive portion of potatoes, gravy, onions, coffee. It does not get better than this! Mary is a great server and we will be back again. Three of us had a very good lunch on 2023/05/07. We were greeted & steated promptly. The food was good - 2/3 of us had the hot sandwich special of the day. We all enjoyed our meals. Server Jesse went out of his way to make our lunch memorable when he found out that one of us was celebrating a birthday. Thanks again!

This is one of the kids favourites, breakfast for dinner is always a hit. The service is great here and the food is always whatever they ordered... we always stick to breakfast so Im not much help on the rest of the menu

I think this is a pinnacle 4 star restaurant. Consistently pretty good food, decent service, decent atmosphere. You probably won t be blown away by anything here, but if you want an overall good experience without the bells and whistles at a fairly affordable place, this is a solid place to go.

I m surprised how quiet it was for how good the food was, how clean everything was, and how great the service was. Server was very kind and prompt. Food was on point. IT WAS SO CLEAN in the restaurant better than most places I ve been to in awhile.

I ordered the mozza burger with fries...the fries were cold and rather lifeless. The burger was lukewarm but the bonus it did have good flavor..too bad it was not hot. I also bought the mini doughnuts...they were rather oily and I would say to stay away from them as they needed to be drained better from the deepfryer. I thought it would be a nice treat to come here but it was not and I will not be back.

I want to say that Brooke went above her duties on Saturday when my sister took ill. Brooke your smile made things so much easier. Thank you so much for all you did. It won t be forgotten. Ordered French Toast once, never again. Totally dry bread on the inside, the outsides looked fine. Is it really so difficult to use proper, very thick sliced brioche bread and let it soak in the egg mix for one minute, on both sides? Not for 5 seconds, please, one minute. This is not rocket science but very basic cooking.

The service was excellent, the food was awful. I had the pancakes, husband had sausage and eggs.

One of our favorites for casual dining

( Ate here August 2023, review moved to the correct Nanaimo Smittys.) This was our first and definitely last visit here. The staff gave off the vibe that they didnt want to be there, our breakfast dishes took a very long time to arrive and parts of them were cold (soggy, cold toast), the nearby bathroom doors were banging shut the whole time and best of all, both my spouse and I came down with food poisoning later in the day that put a damper on our trip. We ate breakfast at a great local place the next day and they said they had heard about the same thing. Eat here at your own risk.

Typical fair. Normal pricing. Unlimited coffee and wifi.

Recently a group of 18 of us, with reservations, had the great experience of eating at the Smitty s at Rock City Plaza. Our server Bryn was amazing! She took all orders promptly, our food came out hot, all orders were correct and no one had to wait for their meal. Plates were cleared, bills were correct. We were all Highly impressed!! I come from a restaurant management background so I know how much work a large group is. They were completely prepared for us. Our table was ready. All the staff were pleasant. Huge shout out to the kitchen staff who pulled all the meal orders together, and for Bryn - she was friendly, helpful and a joy to have as our server. Thank you from the gals of Island Harmony A Cappella Chorus!

Very disappointed the last two times we visited, in regards to service. Last time the server seemed irritated when I asked about an allergen and kept saying that they couldnt guarantee anything rather than look into it. The food was okay. This time the service was even worse. Very long wait. Would not show me an allergen binder so I could sort out options after he came back and told me my first choice would not work. Then he brought out my meal without a large portion of it missing due to possible allergens but did so without letting me know ahead of time that would be the case, resulting in very little food on the plate. He did not return at any point to check on how the meals were and still charged full price for mine despite most of the meal being missing. The other people at the table said their food was fine, hence the second star on the rating. We wont be returning. Dietary restrictions: Very poor handling of dietary restrictions/allergies. Allergen menu is online but its missing one of the main allergens (egg) whereas the old menu used to have it - Ive never seen an allergen menu without egg listed. The servers seemed put off by questions of allergens and there was no access to ingredient information in the restaurant.

The Rock City Smittys tends to be very hit or miss. The service is either excellent or abysmal. The bathrooms are often on desperate need of cleaning. While they dont have automatic doors, the floor space is plentiful for wheelchairs. The food is at worst average and at best great.

Wasnt my favorite place and thought service could of been better. Maybe it was what i ordered but i was disappointed with thier strawberry crapès

Want to say great service by our waiter Jesse. We asked him how long food would be because we only had 45 minutes due to appointment. He said he would let the cook know we needed no later than 15 minutes. He kept his word and he ensured that we were taken care of so we could leave right after our meal. Jesse gets 5 stars for customer service.

It is a nice and cozy place. I took my son for lunch there. He had Gooey Grilled cheese and I had Roast beef dinner Everything was great. Service was good and the waiter was super nice. My only comment would be for a tenderness of the beef which was a bit chewy. Other than that we enjoyed our diner a lot.

Waitress wasnt very friendly nor did she ask if we needed anything . How rude . I also ended up getting sick after going here!!!!

I ordered takeout and the roast beef was old and awful! It was dry and tasteless. The fries were fine but I do not recommend spending money at this restaurant.

My Wife and I went here this morning for Breakfast. Our 1st and Last time here. 1st we waited for someone to seat us for 20 minutes. Asked for a booth seating, they said they had none, we got a tiny corner half booth right next to the Washrooms, so Lame. The carpet below our table was so dirty. We went to their washrooms, the Mens urinal was Out of Order , ... and the toilet was disgusting, I didnt use the washroom, walked out. We waited another 20 minutes for a Waitress. Then , we waited 1 hour to receive the food we ordered. Absolutely Unacceptable. And the food was gross, below average quality. My Wife and I will never return to this Smittys at Rock City Centre, Nanaimo.

Very polite crews,we ordered pancakes waffles and french toasts for ourselves and kids. They have packages for kids which were cool, drawing stuff and snack at the end. Highly recommend!

Went here with my bf and we were seated beside dead bugs, seated on a stained booth, and food wasn t the best. I don t usually complain about restaurants but I wish I knew this before going. I would say the staff were friendly but they seemed to be dreading their jobs. Our waiter also never checked up on us asking how the food was..

Great Fish and Chips. The New York style steak was amazing. For the kids, pancakes and pizza (this one not the best). Nice place and the service was great.

The specifics of my visit are lengthy and almost too ridiculous to mention. It was like our waitress was actually trying to be the worst server Ive ever had from start to finish. I would get into it but it appears the management could care less about making things right.

We just ordered take out and after my 1.5 year old daughter already ate a bit of the toast, I noticed it was moldy (see photo). Looks like she might have ate a bit of the mold. This isnt acceptable and my husband and I are disgusted that our young daughter just ate this. I wouldnt have thought to carefully inspect all her food before eating it. Shouldnt have happened. I called to let them know so it doesnt happen to anyone else. The lady apologized and offered a discount on a kids meal.. However I didnt accept because we wont be a customer again.

My hubby ordered mothers Day breakfast for the entire family today, using skip the dishes, once we recieved our order we realized our eggs Benny had no hollandaise sauce. We called in to let the restaurant know, this is clearly a mistake in the kitchen and not on the delivery driver. We were told to call skip and get a refund. Lovely not going to solve the ruined mothers Day breakfast. No offer to remake the order or send on some sauce. Basically could care less!

Perfectly as ordered, I like my eggs over medium and thats exactly how I got them...may sound like a small thing but its the small things that make your meal enjoyable

We ordered dinner through Skip and more than half the order was missing or incorrect. I called Smitty s and the woman who answered basically told us it wasn t their fault or their problem, and tried to insinuate the Skip driver had stolen the missing items out of our (still sealed upon arrival) bag. I get that things are busy and mistakes happen, but the complete lack of accountability is unacceptable. Own up to your mistakes instead of trying to shift the blame onto someone else.

The Worst experience in here. Waiting for 1 hour and no food. Staff cannot control online order.

Ordered breakfast from there this morning on skip the dishes. Got two Big country breakfasts, and the So-Cal Benedict, I am really impressed with there food!! It was very good proportions, and tasted very fresh! They also gave us lots of salt and pepper packets, ketchup, and peanut butter and jam packets, which I usually never get when I order breakfast from other restaurants, so they have very good service!! I will definitely be making a trip to the restaurant very soon so I can try it in person!! Thank you!!

Food was good but the service was SLOW! Felt like we were being ignored, it took at least 40 minutes to get her food, another 20 minutes to get our check. We only had anybody come ask us if we needed a coffee top up once, at one point it even took almost 20 minutes to get a glass of water. No check in to see if the food was fine or if we needed anything. The only reason we got the check was cuz we had to do call the waitress, which she ignored, and actually took another couple at a different table to get her attention for us. Also the bench seating is so old that its starting to come apart and looks absolutely terrible. Theres a couple items on the menu that I would like to try, however I cant say if Im going to go back or not to try them because of my experience. Maybe Ill wait and go to the South end location.

Quick and easy standard fare. We ate from the breakfast menu. Noticed that some people are in and out the door in 15 minutes, while others seem to linger for hours.

Prefer the breakfast over lunch only because I ordered the turkey pot pie and it doesnt come in a pie crust. My partner ordered steak sandwich and it was a tiny portion of steak. Breakfast comes in a larger portion then the lunch menu.

We LOVE Jessie! He always jokes around with our son and treats all the diners like old friends. Good food and great company!

I recently placed a skip the dishes order and an item was forgotten so I called in to let them know. I spoke with a guy named Jesse, not sure if hes a manager or an employee but I just wanted to leave this review to point out that he actually had really good customer service skills and was very accommodating. It seems the customer service everywhere lately has been just horrendous. But Jesse is the man!
