Donair Dude in Nanaimo

Generous portions, very friendly staff and delectable wide variety of options. So happy to finally have a donair shop in Nanaimo! UPDATE: dont air dude is always exceptional. The service is fantastic and the owner is so on-top of keeping everything running smoothly. The hours are great if your a night owl or need a snack after a boozy night. I love continuing to give this place my business even after months of coming.

So far this is the best donair on the island!

No bread on side now ???? should of told me before i payed and tipped i wont be coming back. The bread to dip the sauce in is my favorite part!!! And you used give it out with meals. Its not expesive!!! why change that!

This place makes some great food and Ive been consistently coming back for many months now. My favorite thing to order from here is easily the mac and cheese bites, they taste as heavenly as grilled cheese.

Food quality is good but protein portions are small even when ordering a large.

Had the souvlaki meal. It was good but could use some more flavour. Used to Mediterranean food having more garlic. It was a little bland. I didnt order/pickup the food but do they not have tzatziki?

We ve eaten from here quite a few times and always enjoyed it. Sadly, after our last order, we for food poisoning. It was a rough night. Given my previous positive experiences I was reluctant to post a negative view and preferred instead to let them know directly so they could look into the issue. After submitting a ticket directly to DoorDash I failed to hear anything back. After a week I left a review directly with Donair Dude through the DoorDash app, but didn t make the review public to give them a chance to get back to me. Several weeks have passed and I never heard back from Donair Dude or DoorDash. The food poisoning my whole family suffered through sucked, but the complete lack of customer service after the fact is very disappointing, especially given the nature of the complaint relating to food safety. I ll never risk buying food from here again.

Great service and the food is in very reasonable pricing. There is no other place that can beat this in cleanliness and hygien. Will come back again.

Its not fancy but its delicious! A wonderful Falafel option for vegans. The Panini Press the donair and it doesnt fall apart halfway down. Fries were deliciously crunchy and fluffy.

Donair dude is a wonderful addition to South nanaimo! The food is always great and they are open late to accommodate students and late night snackers. They also get bummed up to five stars for finally adding proper donair meat! Would recommend anyone to try

Huge portions and great taste!

The food and location was so lovely and inviting. They were busy but very quick to get our order together. We got food for our family of five for under $50 and all left happy and stuffed. We will absolutely be back!

I came here again with the family today. The food and service was great. It was our second time coming and the staff remembered us from our last visit. Everyone should eat here

The product was good, but the service was VERY slow. The staff seemed depressed and didnt smile. My dinner companion remarked that the place was soul sucking. It was obvious that the workers hate their jobs. The place was filthy and the music was horrible. If it wasnt for the decent food, Id give this a 1 star.

Just came here and picked up two beef donairs to go. The owners are lovely and the donairs were awesome! What a treat! I know we ll be back again.

This is a picky eaters review so bear with me. First off I have to start by saying service is amazing, very kind and good energy. But the poutine just wasn t quite what I was anticipating. The fries and cheese were great, but that s half the equation for poutine. I understand it s a donair place but the gravy just didn t work for me. Also I asked for extra cheese but instead received chicken on my poutine. Not for me personally. I tried to eat it but got a third of the way through. If you are looking for interesting poutine this place is the spot. But if you want an original poutine with the gravy to match it unfortunately I found that wasn t here.

I never understand why a take out delivery never includes cutlery!!!!!(spoon, forks etc)... This is disappointing every time for me. I sit in the viu library...make an order....it comes to me...and then I start looking for a spoon with which to eat...

Food is disgusting. Ordered two Sharma plates and they came cold in tvdinner style containers smothered in sauce. Basically just unedible slop.

Usually it s great but tonight the beef tray was low and I got a donair with hardly any meat in it. I asked for it to be corrected but was told it was the normal amount. It was obvious while eating it the wrap was severely lacking and the staff wouldn t correct the situation. The customer service was poor.

Worst place to get late night snack. I have had donair for about 7 years between mainland Vancouver and island but never had such a bad experience. Everything is added cost to already very expensive, and thin piece of snack. If you are expecting a donair that you had before, DO NOT VISIT this establishment. Youre better off either getting pretty much anything else or cooking at your home. Buyers be aware

The food is amazing, great portion sizes and the vertical shawarma grills give the meats excellent flavor. The owner and his team are friendly and they have been receptive to feedback, as indicated by the changes theyve made since opening the location. Skip the other donair places in town, this is the best around.

Impressed. Had small chixken Donair with two pastes, two sauces and various fresh veggies. Lots of cheddar. Grilled so it got to me hot and melty. Small was same size at Tim Hortons wraps. Im going large next time. Very very good!

Stopped for a donair, it was ok, but not an east coast donair. When they put it in the heat press, it turns the pita really hard, makes it hard to chew. The combo meal was a good deal tho!

They did it. They changed there beef to real donair meat. Im from edmonton where donairs are a staple. You can get a Halifax style donair at donair dude now and there sweet sauce is good. Thanks donair dude.

Best Chicken And Fries

This by far my favourite restaurant in Nanaimo: close to the university, open until midnight, friendly and personable staff, reasonable prices, and incredible tasting food. The fries here are some of the best I ve ever had! Highly recommend the chicken poutine and beef donair wrap.

We went there today for the first time while visiting Nanaimo. We had the small plates, lamb with potatoes and chicken with salad. The service was excellent, the staff friendly and warm, and we loved the food! We will definitely back on our next visit!

Finally, Nanaimo has donairs. I used to get donair dude in Vancouver all the time, you cant go wrong with their spreads and sauces. The fact that they are open until midnight most nights and 2AM on friday/Saturday is nice, McDonalds or A&W were basically our only late night choices for food.

THE BEST FOOD! THE BEST SERVICE! I run a business in Nanaimo as well and let me tell you, these guys know what theyre doing. The food is the same price as a subway sandwich and the donairs are WAY better! BEST fries and gravy, Incredible meat for the donairs, fresh toppings (that are spicy and tasty - NOT boring), just really good food that leaves you full. I continue to come back again and again because of Prasanna and Venkat. They are the small business owners here and have showed me nothing but the most incredible customer service - I cannot recommend them enough!

*Ripped off*. Just order the small pita. As far as I can tell, the large pita, for $2 more, is just a double wrap of the small with the same amount of ingredients as the small. I ordered smalls 3 times in person before, and watched the preparation. This time I ordered a large and they just double wrap a small when you order a large. Very disappointing. Wheelchair accessibility: Not great.

Delicious food and amazing staff!!

The food was not worth the price. The hummus is runny, the fries have a super weird texture, taste like a microwave dinner. We had hoped that for $80 we would be happy with our order, but were upset with what we got..

Nice find! Welcomed once we entered, happy to help with ordering and suggestions, clean and tidy. Pricing was fair, we stop in again before hitting the Duke point ferry as this is a fresh option rather than ferry food.

I love the food here, great quantity and great prices. They have weekly and happy hour deals too. Donair Dude is a weekly food option for me and I am always happy with the service. Give them a try you wont be disappointed!! The poutine is delish !

Its fine. If you are looking for a Donaire and are not from the area chances are its not exactly what you are looking for. Its good and all and there are lots of toppings and sauces and spreads but falls short of a traditional Donaire on a spit with standard toppings. Think if subway made Donaire. Would eat again if near by but left me missing the Donaire I know and love.

Food was very good, service was excellent. Got the macaroni cheese bites for my 4 year old and he said, oh man these are so good I cant even believe it.. so there you go haha

I had the poutine and my friends had the pita wraps (one beef and one chicken) they said the wraps were great. The poutine was also great, and I good helping for the price. I also enjoyed the atmosphere. While the space is small, all the tables were clean and had nice (fake) plants decorating them. The staff was also very kind.

Vik is awesome, he remembers everyone!. They have new beef which is really good. I personally love the small 9.99 meals they are good for a small person. For being fast food, its all real food which you can make healthy. 10/10 good inexpensive date night with good quality.

Disappointing, not donair meat or sauce at all

The servers were very friendly and hard working. The store is very clean and tidy and the atmosphere is great for a fast food restaurant. I got the small falafel donair and it was big, I couldnt eat it all. Everything was very fresh and hot. Vegetarian options: Falafels were very good

Best donair in Nanaimo. If you like classic donairs, you should go here. Just watch out for the hot sauce. They do have the red paste which is great and mixes well, but if you dont specify and just ask for hot sauce youll get Franks which doesnt mix that well with the flavours imo.

The dolomades were great, better if they contained beef. And the cabbage wrap only had a minuscule amount of chicken.... bummer These are donairs like how Chicago deep dish is pizza.... it aint. Wont go back

Wraps are massive. It s like a baby lol. Worth the price with how full they stuff them. The poutine was small portion tho would like to have seen it fuller but it was extremely tasty. I m still giving 5 stars because the taste was incredible. Next time I ll try a pita because the beef one my husband got was amazing. will absolutely be back. Happy new year!
