Zougla Restaurant in Nanaimo

Mediocre. Kind of bland. Carpets are from the 70s it looks like?! Probably has a good seniors special. Service was good. No issues with the staff at all.

Better than Greece! Surf n Turf was epic. Panoramic views. Great service! Proviso: 1st meal after 5 days in back country.

Fantastic Greek dinner. We were super hungry and they did not disappoint. Excellent service. Surf and Turf delighted my tastebuds. No other place in Nanaimo can compare!

The food was very good. We were a group of six, and everyone really enjoyed their meals. Service was excellent.

I ordered my favourite dish chicken souvlaki recently at Zougls. Portion size was good, chicken was cooked perfectly. What was lacking was flavour! Not enough seasoning and no lemon flavour. Greek potatoes are usually cooked with lemons. The rice was bland as well. I was so disapointed. I like Zouglas because of the decor, the location, the staff and in the past the food. At these new prices I expected better. Keep up the good work but please improve the chicken souvlaki. We went back to Zouglas for dinner this week. I ordered the Chicken Zougla this time. It was awesome. Lemony potatoes, flavourful sauce on the chicken. My husband had the Lamb Shank and was very pleased with his meal. Our friend who is Celiac had steak. Even though there is no GF menu my friend has never had a reaction to Zouglas food. So pleased that our dining experience this time was wonderful.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST Spanakopita Ive ever tasted! Lots of filling, not greasy or salty. Most often spanakopita is greasy, salty or both. The lamb souvlaki was tender and juicy. The roast potatoes and rice also excellent. The service was stellar, very efficient and pleasant. Will definitely be back the next time Im on the island. I wish Vancouver had a comparable restaurant.

The scallops and prawns were dry, overcooked and very tasteless.

Mediocre at best. We weren t expecting a lot given both of had had less than stellar experiences years previously but decided to give it another try as a belated valentines dinner on a Saturday. It started out well, a nice booth table, greeted quickly and our martinis came out right away, full and delicious. Our appetizer of escargot didn t take too long and it was very tasty and the bread came at about the same time but then it went downhill from there. Our bread was taken away while we were still eating it without being asked if we were done, we sat with empty drinks for a good 15 minutes with no one offering anything and when dinner cake both of our meats were improperly cooked. I had the special which was filet mignon with prawn and scallop souvlaki. I was never asked how I liked my steak cooked and it came medium well. Not my preference. There were 2 scallops and 3 prawns and probably 2.5 ounces of beef. For $38 it was a bit disappointing. My husbands steak was undercooked and hadn t rested so it bled all over his plate. He liked his food and mine was good except for the beer and portion of seafood but given the dated decor, so so service and big bill I think it will be a lot of years before we give this another try.

It was our first visit to Zouglas and were glad we went. Our server was fantastic. The food was excellent. And the place was bright and clean with a nice atmosphere. Their Greek salad game was on point and I recommend trying the Salmon Oscar and the Calamari.

Amazing food and amazing service. Very intimate setting yet you dont feel squished together with other guests.

Was pleasantly surprised, the food was very tasty and portions were great. So glad we found it on Google, since none of the locals had recommended it when asking for Greek food recommendations. The dining room is expansive and lets you feel private at your table despite being somewhat close to other tables. House made bread was the perfect crunchy exterior crust, served fresh and warm to your table.

Excellent food and service. We were a large party and the servers were friendly and attentive. A lovely place to go for lunch or dinner!

I ordered a 12 ounce rib eye @$52.95 and it was definitely not a rib it was more like a strip loin or a less expensive cut. I mentioned it to the server all she said was she would mention it to the kitchen. I always order a rib eye when I want a good steak I was not impressed. I won t go back.

The chocolate eruption cake is delicious, although I dont think it is made in-house. The ambiance is very laid back, the decor and atmosphere is a little dated. The food was good, I have been here 3 times now as it was close to home, the vegetarian meals have been quite consistent.

Love this place so much, but I am giving it 1 star because of its prices. $40 for a dinner and dessert for a single person. This is outrageous and shocking, especially during a time when everyone is struggling financially.

My Fiancée and I went in and had a spectacular meal. We each had appetizers that were very quick to the table but more importantly very well prepared and tasted sooo good. Our entrées were of the next level quality! Our server was super efficient and very friendly. We had such a wonderful experience. We cant wait to revisit!!!

One of Nanaimos nicer restaurants. Zougla has a quiet atmosphere, wonderful servers and a variety of menu items generally of Mediterranean origins. Seafood, steak and pasta are all represented. If you want a quiet, higher end meal in Nanaimo, you cant go wrong.

The food at the restaurant here is some of the best Italian food Ive had since coming to Canada. The steak was so delicious and the spaghetti was fantastic. We ate everything.

Been meaning to try this place for a while. The appetizer Escargot was amazing. Best Ive had in a while. Unfortunately, this got worse from there. The pasta was fine, but had a weird taste. I ate it, but wasnt thrilled about it. The chocolate eruption cake was pretty good, but nothing special. Overall, its a decent place that is not worth the money we spent for supper. Would not return.

First time here and it wont be my last. Enjoyed my meal with the company of 6 of my friends and highly recommend the chicken souvlaki, the chicken melted in my mouth, it was cooked perfectly and the blackberry martini was worth every sip :)

Professional, but welcoming and always on time when you need them at your table. I will be back time and time again guaranteed.

The calamari is all batter . And not even a good batter. The garlic prawns I had were ok but the prawns were way over done and didnt have a lot of garlic flavor. The service was good. However the atmosphere is dry.

The best place for dating. I recommended dessert tiramisu: Cream mixed with coffee and chocolate with wet sponge cake is very delicious and not too sweet. Good environment and service.

Was promised the best ribeye in Nanaimo, I was disappointed. Chefs response if you didnt like it why did you not send it back. Well chef, why did you say you had the best steak when clearly you did not and if I wanted to eat alone I would have come alone.

Its very expensive, but.. but but but.. you do get a great high class well prepared meal out of it. I like it quite a bit, my bill for Saganaki, Lamb Souvlaki, Bacio Bianco, and a drink was about $50 before I tipped... Mmmm I think $40 would have been good enough. Still it is great, good job

The food is great but the price was a bit much. I ordered two chicken souvlaki plates and the total came to just over $50. I was shocked. I don t think what you get is worth it despite it tasting great. It s just chicken, rice, potatoes, pita and greek salad. Which I guess sounds like a lot of food but I still think the price is a smidge too high. I would feel comfortable and happy paying $45 for the meal, as I think that is a fair price. That being said, on special occasions I will be back because I do see the care that is put in the food. It was tasty. The price is just very high, so that s a bummer.

First rate service! Had a fantastic dining experience, food was delicious the servers were excellent. I had the chicken cordon bleu with the white wine sauce, it was terrific would recommend.

We had the patio to ourselves after being turned away at another establishment that closed at 8pm right on the water that cant find staff to enable them staying open longer. Delicious bacon wrapped scallops (ask to sub the prawns), calamari dinner and chocolate eruption cheesecake! Thank you to Brianna for making sure we were taken care of!

Service was excellent but was impressed with my chicken breast, it was thin instead of pulp and juicy.

Beautiful place, we got take out and the food was amazing. Especially the Mediterranean flatbread, such a good appetizer after a day out in the mountains. Both the rice and potato options were good I m told and the round bread was so so delicious, the tiny crispy shell with soft insides was to die for. I wouldn t recommend the Mediterranean pasta , it was a bit too oily and the veggies lacked flavour outside of the feta. If thats what you like go ahead but I would ve preferred the shrimp curry or salmon my other friends got. Other than that, everything else was great and the food is well priced and good portioned(coming from someone who eats a lot). We will definitely be coming again

The service was excellent and the ambience was pleasant. The food was good but I expected a higher quality for the prices being charged. Not an unpleasant experience by any means but certain price points bring certain expectations. These didnt match.

Good mid-high end place. More affordable than Astaras and fancier than Alexandra. The waitresses need to be taught how not to forget about the customers in the booths. Had to get up and find someone to order and pay the bill.

Me and my husband had a great service by Arielle, food was very good (mine could have a bit less tomato sauce on the chicken but it still was great), good portion, and it was a quite evening there so we had a pleasant time. It was a bit pricey compared to other options in town but overall it was a very good quality of food and great experience.

Zougla is a nice restaurant serving mostly Mediterranean style dishes.The portions are large. My absolute favorite was Mushroom Cups baked with the butter-garlic sauce and cheese. I wouldnt recommend the baby pork ribs with BBQ sauce. You cant taste anything but that sauce. The staff is great - professional and polite. The restaurant takes all the necessary measures to protect customers during COVID-19. The tables are arranged to ensure social distancing, cleaning is thorough. The restaurant has enough parking space.

Simply the hidden gem of nanaimo, having lived here all my life I feel almost robbed of what could easily be tradition. The feeling of being at home as well as higher class dining to the warm atmosphere and staff, could only be exceeded by the overly talented chefs working the kitchen to produce some of the best lamb I have ever tasted in my life! Making this one of the best dining experiences I have had on the island, if i could change anything about this decadent discovery i would say a little faster service but do to covid I can understand the delay and am looking forward to go back once things have calmed down to experience a more organic environment and that would be it, the standard set at this establishment far exceeds anything I have witnessed in nanaimo I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.
