550 Fifth St #205, Nanaimo, BC V9R 3W1, Canada
Locally owned, family run business.
Absolutely blown away by the customer service this evening. I called what I thought was before closing only to discover it was only minutes too and they still went out of there way to accommodate me for dessert (I asked first!). The food here is always top notch and I can't recommend it enough. Thanks again!
Baby salsa is a fun place to eat if you're looking for decent Mexican food and a margarita. The food tastes great, especially the chorizo, and the complimentary chips and salsa. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere in the restaurant could be better, but it's quaint and has some decent tunes. It's definitely worth checking out.
My dining partner ordered the chicken tamales, and I ordered the snapper taco plate. We both ordered horchata drinks. My tacos and the rice were really good, but the beans were lukewarm. My dining partner said that his tamales weren't that good. Our horchatas were good, but there was so much ice in the glass, they were gone with just a few good drinks. When we asked for more, but with no ice, the drink was served in a considerably smaller glass.
Amazing Mexican food! A must try when in Nanaimo. Mara is a great server and very friendly. She patiently took time to explain us all the food items. Highly recommend this place.
Amazing food. Everything tasted fresh, very generous serving size as well. Even gave us complimentary appetizers that were like a full order size itself. Great service. Fresh food
Nachos like no other. For the first time I can recall I was given layered nachos without asking. They were exceptional. Massive portion, lots of flavor, lots of heat from the jalapeno, they looked beautiful. If your looking for the best of the best, look no further. Thank you!
The last time I had tamales was in Los Angeles years ago! This is the only Mexican restaurant in BC that I have found serving tamales so I had to try them! I had the south-west tamale along with a bowl of tortilla soup. Both were very flavourful! My husband had a shrimp burrito with a green sauce which was also very tasty. We sat on the patio, the atmosphere and service was excellent. We will definitely come here again to try some of the other menu items.
Mexican cuisine is a expertise of mine. I tried many Mexican restaurants mostly from my time in Calgary. After moving to Nanaimo I looked into the local Mexican food scene. Only this place and Jalapeños Mexican Food nearby looked authentic and promising to me. Today, I tried Baby Salsa and we went all out. We ordered soup, tacos, burritos, mains and desserts. The final bill came out to be $183 for 4 people. The highlights would be tacos, but we wish there were a bit more variety available. The soup, burritos and main were okay too. Desserts the best was the flan, rice pudding is good and the churros were not good. Churros were too dense and not fluffy and light. Overall the food was alright for Nanaimo standards. The service was friendly and great. The restaurant ambience was nice. Great space for sitting down and the washroom was clean. Good location with parking and a major bus stop outside. Overall it's a good option for authentic Mexican food on the Island.
Very good food, reasonable prices and nice staff
Good food for reasonable prices
Great place for Mexican cuisine. Their street tacos are one of my favorites as well as the stuffed jalapeños, and the fluatas!!
I recently ate here with my wife and 3 yr old. Great authentic Mexican food and wonderful service! Will go back again Thank you, Rhonda( server) for all your help and suggestions. Kid-friendliness: They were very accommodating, provided a booster seat, and washroom had diaper change stations.
Vegetarian options: Vegan items available Food
Love this place! Staff are friendly, food is incredible!
Snapper tacos are
Great options gf and vegan> TASTY AND GREAT SERVICE (efficient and with a SMILE*** a list art these days! ;(
Good food! Had the Flautas Ahogadas and they were delicious, paired with a Bulldog.. second time time and will definitely come back.
Wonderful place to eat Great food Great service Reasonable priced. If you have never tried Mexican food, Baby Salsa is the place to start¡!!!
Staff were friendly, and food was great. Portion was pretty big for the snapper plate special they had. Great music playing as well.
Delicious food!
Not a big Mexican guy but love this place
Unique and inexpensive authentic tacos. The price is so good. You can have two or three different kinds!
Good food if a bit pricey
Great food, friendly staff! We will definitely be back whenever we are in the area. A really broad selection of vegan options as well. Dietary restrictions: Vegan options available
I absolutely love this place! I come here at least once a week, the calamari Tacos are my favorite aswell as the mango margarita!
Friendly service! Delicious food!
Baby Salsa has the best refried beans in town. Trust me. I have tried a fair bit of the menu at this point and have never once been disappointed. Highly recommend the flautas and the queso fundito. The patio is a cute little oasis carved out next to the bustle of fifth street. Its one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon in the summer.
Great food and service there fish tacos are amazing
Oh baby baby salsa .. I m forever changed it s a pleasure to leave this googoo review for such an adorable enterprise . Dear baby: thank YOU for the complementary chips?? If you too are at the end of your rope reaching non verbal status consider stopping here consider finding love,,, consider loving yourself? Through the medium of a burrito after a long day in the sun? Aw shucks I dunno baby salsa I love you and wish you all the light in your journey into adulthood .. and another note: if you leave something and it loves you it was never meant to be .
Two whole pages of vegan Mexican food?! This place is heaven! Next time Im ordering that brownie! Oh and the chips and salsa are so fresh!
We decided to try baby salsa as it was highly reccomended by some coworkers, and they did not disappoint! The margaritas are absolutely delicious, as well as the snapper taco plate. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Nanaimo Vegetarian options: They have a couple pages dedicated to vegan dishes
Wouldnt have expected authentic Mexican food in a strip mall, but thats Nanaimo for you Huge menu, including a whole page for vegan options. Delicious appetizers and fresh tortilla chips. The horchata was the best Ive had. Highly recommend the queso fundido! Great service as well. Highly recommended!
We love this place... Friendly, authentic, and definitely underrated....
The best Mexican food in Nanaimo without a doubt. Very flavourful and authentic with some great drink options. Ronda, Mara and the rest of the serving staff are so welcoming and accommodating. The kitchen works very hard and it shows in the food. The owner did an amazing job representing Mexico!
Absolutely delicious food & drinks, fast and wonderful service.
Delicious food and provided best customer service Thanks Food
The best Mexican in town!! Flavours are delicious, great options to pick from
Friendly staff
The food was good, but my rice was cold, not even warm. Otherwise a nice small place.
Always a good eat!
This place is fun, the staff are great, and they have two pages of tasty vegan options. Awesome!
Great selection tasty food. Fresh food and friendly staff
The staff are very friendly. If you enjoy vomiting and diarrhea, then try the vegan chorizo.
Friendly, simple little taco joint. Jarritos and Sol and daquiris! Try halibut taco *update- the expanding patio is pretty sweet and a decent atmosphere for being right on the road
Very good vegan menu!
Such a great place that s super Vegan friendly. Not only are they vegan friendly but they have a vegan section in the menu. Highly recommend this great little restaurant if you are in Nanaimo. Food
I tried the tamale for the first time, it was really delicious, home-made and gluten-free! Also got a side order of guacamole for the chips and salsa and it was so good.
EDIT: Quality seems to have gotten better following my review. I did however get charged to add avocado but never actually got any avocado added. I have been coming regularly for years but Im really disappointed lately. -I recently added extra avocado to a street taco and was served brown (near-rotten) mushy avocado. Im unsure how that was allowed to leave the kitchen. They have also switched their grilled chicken to frozen breaded chicken which is huge disappointment. The frequency of mistakes in take-out orders has risen quite a bit. Based on their public health inspection records, it sounds like theyre having some issues. In summary, prices have gone up and overall experience has gone down. I cant justify eating here or recommend it anymore. I hope one day they will have the same quality and service as they used to.
Tried this spot for the first time today. I chose it because they advertised having fresh horchata which is hard to find a good horchata outside of Mexico and it did not disappoint it was creamy and not gritty. We started with the obligatory chips and roasted red salsa, the chips were fresh made and still warm. We also ordered a half order of Chicharon with salsa verde and guacamole. The Chicharon was still crackling as it came to the table, the salsa verde was still warm from being cooked and the guac was wonderful. I had 2 street tacos, the Diablo which is spicy crispy shrimp and the ocho brazos taco which is calamari. Both were flavourful hot and perfectly served on corn tortillas that were warm and soft like flour tortillas. My mother had the chicken taco salad and it was huge and flavourful with big juicy piece of chicken and so much veggies corn and beans she couldn t finish it all. Our server was friendly and attentive and made great recommendations to the people around us that were not as familiar with Mexican food. Can t wait to go back and try more dishes! Vegetarian options: The menu had 2 full pages of vegan and vegetarian options! Some places only have a couple dishes but Baby Salsa has a full vegetarian and vegan section 2 pages long Parking: In a small mini plaza with lots of parking right in front of the restaurant
The best authentic Mexican food in Nanaimo, great service and atmosphere.
Food was good. I come from a very biased opinion due to the fact that i love all mexican food. This place was no exception to most of the fine places i have ventured to for mexican food. Staff was very responsive and welcomed me personally as i entered the resturant. If you love spicy they know how to make food spicy without loosing all the other great flavors in the dishes. Will definetly visit again. Wheelchair accessibility: Very accessible. Though it is quite a walk from the nearest ramp.
We got takeout. The person taking the order, possibly the owner, was very helpful when I asked for suggestions for a gluten free meal to feed three hungry people. The food was delicious. Dietary restrictions: Many gluten free options. Many vegetarian options.
The BEST Mexican food on Vancouver Island!!! Please open one North Island!!!
One of my favourite restaurants in town! I highly recommend trying them out :)
Great family run Mexican restaurant. First time dinning at Baby Salsa; food & service was excellent. Small area for dinning in with 3 booths & 6 or 7 tables. We were there mid week for dinner & place was full along with many takeout orders. Owners are from Mexico City and certainly know how to make an authentic Mexican meal. Dietary restrictions: They also serve vegan food
This is THE BEST restaurant. The food is AMAZING. Love the street tacos. The burritos are amazing too. Well everything is amazing!
I won a gift card to this restaurant and had never heard of it before. It was amazing. Best Mexican food on the island and super friendly service and all at very reasonable prices. Have recommended to others and will make this a regular place.
Great burritos! My favorite!
A good mexican spot in university village shopping centre
Food was awesome service was great and especially the desert was delicious.
Wow great food all around Worth the drive from Victoria Food
It has been years since I ve been here & I had friends from out of town who wanted Mexican for a New Years Eve dinner and I had remembered it as delicious & quality & value. We were sadly disappointed. We each had a chicken dish (as they were out of the beef for fajitas) and it was surprising when the tortillas were crunchy stale, although the chicken itself was a generous portion the rice & beans were lacking but just as well as the flavour was lacklustre and every condiment, cheese, sour cream, salsa & guacamole was extra. Although I know I am not in Mexico, but I ve never seen 3 different entrées all come without any of the aforementioned. Which then turns a $25 entree into a $32 one when added. But on another note, the bathroom facilities do provide an authentic rural Mexican experience. Will not be returning as my one friend rang in the New Year with her own fireworks in the biffy.
It was ok. My fish taco was halibut. Usually its tilapia but that wasnt a choice. My partner had the holey moley. He said it was ok. Next time we will order something different and see what we think. Vegetarian options: My girl is lactose intolerant so the vegan choice for her was important
I rave about this place to everyone. The carnitas are soooo good. And the key lime custard desert is so good for sharing if you ask for extra rolled up tortillas.
The best Mexican restaurant with vegan options on the island. Their complimentary fresh chips and salsa are 10/10, and dishes are well-made and delicious.
Nothing outright terrible, just disappointing all round(having tried 4 main items)
I love their food especially the plates. Coyote is my favorite! Vegetarian options: Great vegetarian choices Food : 5/5 |
Omg. Soooo good. Everything was amazing. They also have a huge vegan menu!
Amazing food! Extensive vegan options. Kind service. One of the best restaurants in Nanaimo for sure!
Little small but great food and service.
The food was really good. The chips with the sauce are fresh and crispy. Great taste. Don t forget to try the churros!
Wait staff was prompt and friendly despite being very busy and the food came quite quickly again despite being so busy. I had the chicken enchilada with the red salsa and found it amazing. Theres this cheese they put on top that looks like feta but isnt and it tasted amazing. If you good sit-down Mexican this is an easy recommend from me.
Very delicious, my favorites were the churros, the carnita tacos and the salsa 10/10 the rice tasted quite authentic although the beans didnt haha, also the service was good. As a plus, they have Mexican drinks like jarritos and they had my favorite beer: XX
The burritos was huge and delicious. Staff friendly, welcoming and efficient. Prices reasonable, wine under $7 a glass. Will definitely return.
My mother and I had a delicious meal here. The food is authentic. The staff Rhonda and Caroline were upbeat and knowledgeable. Portion sizes a big we both could not finish our dinners. We will be back. Thank you girls it was like having a night out in Mexico!!!
My new favorite spot
Amazing vibes and great selection of food, I will always choose to go here for special occasions.
over priced...two takeout burritos (nothing else) $35 for rice and beans. Yikes!!!
Cozy little well-decorated place with amazing staff and even better food! Authentic and friendly, I literally recommend this place to all my friends. Theres a blonde waitress here that is especially amazing, wish I got her name!! Highley reccomend the vampiro tacos, the ranchera salsa is killer on top
Seriously awesome tacos.. And great guac! Dietary restrictions: I love the fact that they can make things gluten friendly!
Damn good tacos. Try the new Ochos Brazos Calamari tacos. Too good to get a pic, sorry will try next time.
Always great!
Pretty solid food, good service and good drinks, got myself a margarita. Only knocks were the quesadilla being a bit greasy, and it didnt greatly impact the experience, just required a few extra napkins lol
Great food and reasonable prices. Fun vibe inside and a patio for sunny days. Blended margaritas are pretty good too. Lots of VIU students eat here so you know it must be fairly priced.
Amazing salsa and vegan options. Great service and atmosphere.
Yummy food, great service
The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful, the margaritas drinks was yummy, I felt like I was a Mexican restaurant in Mexico. I think this place should I be bigger it s pretty busy. I had a lot of fun I enjoyed very much this place and definitely going back.
Eating the quesadillas was like going straight to heaven. I was sad when they were gone. Really nice waitress aswell. 5/5
I recently visited Baby Salsa Mexican Restaurant with a group of eight, including children, for lunch on a Sunday. Overall, I enjoyed the food and service, but did have a few minor issues. The food was tasty and I particularly enjoyed trying different versions of Jarritos soda, with the tamarind flavor being my favorite. As someone trying Mexican cuisine for the first time, I cannot vouch for the authenticity of the dishes, but I found them enjoyable nonetheless. However, I did notice that some of the utensils seemed old and dirty, so I think its time for the restaurant to invest in some new ones. Despite this, the service was quite good and attentive. For dessert, I tried the Mexican Crullers (Churros) and they were amazing! They were served with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces, and I particularly enjoyed using the caramel sauce. In fact, it was so good that it made me exclaim .... ... which is a famous quote from a Malayalam language movie that expresses how impressive something is. Overall, despite the minor issue with the utensils, I had a pleasant experience at Baby Salsa Mexican Restaurant and would recommend it to others.
Had some really good, specialty menu items. Staff were kind, would recommend.
Lots of vegan options and gluten free options but I think they might have said they fry thier chips in the same oil with gluten menu items so maybe ask about it if u got issues like me. Friendly staff and clean tables ambient environment and cool looking decor. Dietary restrictions: They subbed the nacho chips for lettuce for me and also their black bean soup they accomadated me with no Avacado though this one time I asked for bean tamales and got chicken so that was akward lol but whateva Kid-friendliness: Crayons and a menu for drawing on
Food is really good and made fresh. Prices are climbing like everywhere would be my only complaint.
So good! Such a great place for Mexican food! Good, fresh and awesome service!
can not get to your menu, not god business, find something easier to get to..no stars from us, had to add it to post.
The food here is always incredibly consistent, very apparently fresh, and never not delicious. Many vegan options to chose from which makes this restaurant vegan friendly, and, the vegan food is done very well. Staff is always friendly. I highly recommend!
I thought it was very fresh food and friendly customer service.
Awful, dry old tasting burrito. Rice dry, chicken dry, cheese which I paid extra for not melted. 9$ for bearly a childs pudding cup of flan! Incrediblely small portion! Wont return waste of money. Ruined my birthday
Tacos very big and tasty ....I will be back...
An unpretentious restaurant for delicious Mexican food. I tried the quesadillas and loved them. They have Jarritos and their own restaurant made pop(like Jarritos). Must try. Service is great, the servers were polite and actually cared about how you liked the food. (Rare)
A year ago I rated this 4 stars, had to come back and change it. 1 order of a burrito and stuffed jalepenos was $34. The burrito was soggy AF. I only live 2-3 minutes away , so it did not get soggy on the journey home. It was just the wettest burrito I had ever seen. The burrito only had 1 single gardein fishless fillet on it.not even cut in half to span the burrito and feel like there was more, just 1 placed in the centre whole. It was small and no where near as good as it was a few years ago. I have been going to baby salsa for nearly 5 years now, and tonight was super disappointing. Ive found it to be steadily declining, and my last 2 visits and todays takeout were particular letdowns. When I started going 5 years ago, I recommended it to everyone. Burritos the size of your head, great value and great food. I sadly dont foresee myself returning after the last few disappointments. $34 for one person, and that food not being delicious, is too much for me. Vegetarian options: They have a vegan menu Dietary restrictions: Lots of GF and vegan options
Defo the best (real) Mexican place on the island
Very good authentic menu and food! Service was fabulous! Great prices :)
We wanted a nice cozy place with amazing food and we found it! Just came from Edmonton for the night and had a fantastic meal with family, sat outside on the patio that welcomed dogs :) I think what made our evening was the service, our server was a beautiful lady with a beautiful smile, she had patience with us as we asked lots of questions! Highly recommend this Baby Salsa!
Authentic Mexican food flavors and great service with a pet friendly patio. We totally recommend stoping by for a delicious lunch
This is a very good Mexican restaurant.
My favourite Mexican restaurant in town! Staff are very friendly and food is amazing ! I m vegetarian and they have lots of great options (I love their burrito drenched in red and green salsa). They make salsa to take home now too- I can t get enough of it ! Vegetarian options: They have a LOT of vegetarian options !! Kid-friendliness: They have a kids menu and my some likes eating here
Food is great, service is amazing! We ordered tacos and tamales. Tacos have delicious soft tortillas, a good portion of meat, well seasoned with a good spicy kick. I am really appreciative for their great service. We are catching a ferry and forgot we need to check in half an hour early because we have reservations. They quickly helped me switch my order from eating in to take-out, packed up as soon as they could. We made it to the ferry in time! Definitely gonna go back next time when we are in Nanimo to try more dishes. Thank you so much!
My partner and I had a la Dona burrito (vegan) and tacos. The burrito was one of the best burritos I ever had. My partner really enjoyed the tacos as well. This place is a hidden gem with excellent authentic food and service.
The staff were very friendly and the food was great. Loved the tacos and hot sauce. Dog friendly patio was a bonus.
Nice to have a Mexican option in town. We will be back!
I always love coming here. The food is delicious, and there are a ton of fantastic options! It can get a bit busy, as its a very popular local establishment, but they always do their best to provide prompt and friendly service. Vegetarian options: They have a very wide range of both vegetarian and vegan options, including plenty of fake meat options. None of which compromise at all on taste. Parking: Its in the corner of a busy complex right by a cramped drive-thru, so parking right near by can be difficult. Theres almost always parking a bit further away in the lot though.
Always LOVE Baby Salsa! I just cant get there often enough!!!
Fantastic! What a find. It s nothing fancy but the people are kind and the food is excellent. It s hard to find authentic Mexican in Canada, but this unlikely little place in a strip mall is one of our new favourites. Real street tacos and a fantastic margarita on the rocks that s made with real ingredients and a lot of love. We ll be back!!
Good service, treasonable prices nice patio
This place has great-tasting food and, hands-down, the best burritoes Ive ever had. A bit bummed theyve recently subsituted a fried chicken for the regular chicken in my fav Santa Fey though. Have tried a good variety of menu items and look forward to trying more. Staff is friendly, place is clean.
The best authentic Mexican in nanaimo, tacos are amazing and the margaritas too. Love the hot quesso dip too as a starter.
Very good food and nice people around
Love love love this place
Dog friendly patio was nice.
Vegetarian options: Such a large selection Parking: Tonnes of parking. A whole mall Food : 5/5 |
Great food and staff, I find they aren t very accurate with take out times. They atmosphere is ok but crowded at times. Other then that great restaurant with great friendly staff.
Food was grea,t service needs a little more work but they were all nice and kind.
Got seated quickly service was fantastic. Immediately we noticed that our food took a very long time to exit the kitchen. We did order jalapeños for an appetizer and it was excellent. When the food finally arrived it was obvious it had been set waiting for a long time. That being said it wasn t bad and that can easily be fixed in future Outside seating was great although the interior was not a super pleasant atmosphere. Just a little dark cluttered and dirty is all. Vegetarian options: Plenty of accommodations for the this meal type Wheelchair accessibility: Outside seating was easily accessible and spacious
Buy a jar of their salsa
I cant believe that these restro is getting good reviews. Server forgot our orders. Food is way too salty. If anything only margaritas were ok. Other than that really bad experience. In total 4 items we ordered and in that she forgot our orders and it got late.
Friendly staff but stay away from the Mole. They do have an extensive Vegan menu so props for that but the Pork Enchiladas were underwhelming.
The food was excellent. The Margaritas and diet cokes were just right. The company was fine, although our selection of friends. All in all, a very nice place to gather, eat and drink. Go! Enjoy!
Always a good meal. Pork Enchiladas with mole sauce!
I visit here at least once a year to get my Mexican fix. The tortilla chips and salsa alone are worth the visit - so good! Tacos are probably my fave, but enchiladas are good too, so are burritos.
Hands down the best Mexican food in Nanaimo. Everything tastes so fresh. The carnitas are delicious. I could eat them every day. Home made salsa, great service and killer margaritas. Stoked to have this place so close to home Vegetarian options: Lots! Dietary restrictions: They have a whole gluten free and vegan menu
My favourite restaurant in Nanaimo
Great food, good prices, 2nd favorite Mexican place in town
The Gringo is a definite favorite. Delicious.
The best tortilla soup I have had since I left Mexico!
Delicious fresh salsa and guacamole made in house! Great friendly service. They were out of chorizo when I was there - I hear it s very popular!
Our food was really good! The atmosphere was only OK.
This is probably the worst Mexican food I have had in Nanaimo
FAV burritos of all time. Amazing.
Ordered a tortilla soup, was expecting corn and beans as well as other veggies that would typically be in this type of soup, the photo on skip the dishes also shows that it has those items in the soup. But when I got my soup, it was literally just chicken and soup. Very disappointing. Also not impressed with the pub style chicken strip in the gringo taco they have substituted for real shredded chicken.
Excellent food, Ive been there 2 times now and has been great both times. Marguerita and chips were great, guacamole and everything tastes home made and amazing. Had a Mole burrito while my partner had a fajita. Both were delicious.
Great food and great service!
Complimentary chips and salsa are awesome, and the entrees taste amazing! One downside is that as a big burrito fan I was somewhat underwhelmed by the amount of food for the price - but it may be enough for the average person. Will definitely still be back though, the taste is top-notch.
Fabulous authentic Mexican food with great ambiance. Large portions and super good chips and salsa.
Great place, the food is authentic, and the staff are professional and very polite.
One of my favorite places now in Nanaimo!
Lovely little spot. Has a nice patio area which was dog friendly. I got a couple of tacos and jalapeno poppers. All were fresh and delicious! Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Great place for some good Mexican food in Nanaimo! Parking: Plenty of free parking
I have been going here for a long time and it s not just the amazing food that keeps me coming back. It s the staff. Really easy to talk, they always make rad recommendations and never pushy about anything. Very accommodating as well. Loooooove those garlic shrimp tacos mmmmmm
Worst service ever. Disgusting food. Don t recommend.
Dietary restrictions: Super accommodating of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free restrictions!
Amazing food, Amazing service and all for a great price. Thank you for a pleasant evening Great for gluten free!
The food is nice, the drinks are great, the patio is chill; buuuut, the service isn t very friendly, and the food is slow. Some items on the menu might be authentic Mexican. Must be a popular place for take out due to the endless stream of drivers picking up orders.
Just great Mexican food! Its a go to away from Toronto!
Great food, amazing drinks. If youre looking for an authentic Mexican experience and are okay with real Mexican food (ie spicy) then Baby Salsa is for you.
$18 for such a bland and tiny veg burrito. Other communities on the island have way better authentic and delicious mexican options
Three stars given solely for the good tasting food, the service is just shy of terrible. Extremely unprofessional. Trying to enjoy a meal and having cutlery sorted directly next to you. Waitresses discussing another staff member calling in sick and how ridiculous her excuse was. Rude to skip drivers. Water spilled all over table and floor and not cleaned. Maybe takeout is the better option to not have any face to face interaction.
My sister and I order burritos. She got the vegan chorizo and I got the shrimp burrito. Both burritos mostly rice, disappointing for $18 also we ordered on skip the dishes and waited a further 10 minutes after it was supposed to be ready.
Staff are very friendly, food was delicious. Shrimp taco was fantastic! Also staff are knowledgeable and the Pina Colada s are great. Free nachos for starter was cool too
Some of the worst things food I have ever had definitely the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. I don t understand why there are so many positive reviews for this restaurant, are all the people eating here drunk? Clearly they have never been to Mexico. The only positive I can give this restaurant is their horchata is not bad and they give you chips and salsa while you are waiting for your food. We waited almost 40 minutes to get 2 tacos and a shrimp plate. The prices were very expensive for what we received. When you pay $20 for a shrimp plate you expect it to be substantial which this was not. The rice was crunchy, and you couldn t even tell you were eating shrimp there was sooo much sauce on them. My partner couldn t even finish his it was so awful. As for me I had the snapper taco and it tasted so bad I had to spit it out. Also it didn t seem like the staff cared, no one even asked us how our food was. We are new to Nanaimo and will surely never eat here again
Good food. Good service!
In all honesty we ended up here by pure destiny. We went to Jalapeño Fiesta and it was closed and Baby Salsa was open and close by. My yummyness, Im glad we ended up here. The food was full of party in your mouth, tickling your tonsils and flavourful explosions. We had 7 different type of tacos and a Piña Colada. Everything was Very delicious. The free appy they give you is also scrumptious which consists of thin baked tortilla chips with the homemade salsa Our server was great and the atmosphere with the salsa playing in the background is perfect. I most definitely recommend this place.
We were driving up Island from Victoria and googled Mexican. First off, service was so lovely. Really felt welcome even though we tote with us a whiny rambunctious toddler. To our surprise, we were served fresh warm house made tortilla chips. Yum! The salsa was smoky and delicious!! For dinner, I got the street tacos. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The filling was delicious and there was lots of it. All around a great experience and much better service and portion standards than we typically experience in Victoria. Great job!
25min wait for $20 soggy nachos with like 3 shreds of vegan cheese.
Really nice spot. Fresh and wholesome food with great staff. There s a star missing bc they were out of their popular halibut and the fried shrimp but no signs or warnings. I prefer restaurants who are straight up and forward with info instead. No a big deal to some but warrants an A instead of A+ for me. Lol would still come back though
There was a white lady karan with Sharp specs she don t know how to speak with the delivery people who work for the SkipTheDishes and DoorDash she don t know how to apologize if they are late in preparing orders and she start arguing and using F word. We don t get paid extra to wait there but we are not waiting there to get insulted. I hope that for the next time We don t get this kind of behaviour to any other delivery person Thank you
Very tasty food with short waiting times and a very good price-performance ratio are 100 percent true of this restaurant. The waitresses are extremely courteous and polite, especially Omar. Always my pleasure!
Good
Delicious food, very accommodating and great service. 100% recommend!
My favorite mexican restaurant on the island. We live in Victoria and will drive to Nanaimo specifically to come here
10/10 awesome food and the widest selection of jarritos flavours! Such a fantastic lil Mexican place
Just tried for the first time. I had chicken enchilada, my wife had flautas; we were both impressed. Evidently plenty of in- house ingredients on the menu. The service was attentive and pleasant. We look forward to returning! Dietary restrictions: GF available Parking: Easy parking
Delicious vegan Mexican food!
Great little mexican place friendly service
This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Nanaimo. But unfortunately that is not the case anymore for a few reasons. First, dining in, the service has consistently been slow (especially over the past couple of years) and the FOH staff are inattentive and essentially rude. The staff do not smile or try to make you feel warm and welcome. This is odd considering the aesthetic of the restaurant! You would think top service would be a priority. Secondly, the cost of food has gone up considerably. A taco ranges from ~$4.50-$7 for one taco! And unfortunately quality control is not present. On numerous occasions I ve ordered burritos or soup or whatever and the dishes were lacking in some way. For example, sometimes the burritos are so small and could be a snack size but you are charged full price. Another time I ordered the black bean soup, which I did many times in the past, and it was legit burned. You could taste it in the soup. It was awful and I was not permitted a refund through Skip. And on other occasions the avocados have been brown and rotten tasting on the margarita salad and vege tacos. This restaurant is a hit and miss and can be risky to eat at for the above mentioned reasons. So now I rarely eat here. I hope one day the restaurant improves itself so I can enjoy their sometimes delicious food.
Good food and great service
Friendly service and decent food. The salsa was excellent but didnt care for guacamole. Small venue and people hold the entry door seeing if there is available seats. Cools down quick.
Im sorry i dont usually do this but me and my gf just ordered from you guys and im not very impressed. I ordered the chicken quesadilla and what a sad one it was. Im trying not to be mean here but it was by far the worst chicken quesadilla i have ever had in my life. There was nothing in it except a little bit of minced chicken and some cheese and the portion was very small. A chicken quesadilla should have actual cuts of chicken in it some red and green peppers and onion and it should be a much bigger portion especially for 17 dollars. Come on guys i know you can do better. Im just very dissapointed. Next time ill make my own at home.
Unexpectedly fantastic! Authentic and great with really fresh flavours all around
Great place to have good quality mexican food! Service was kind but a bit slow and forgetful. The hot sauces are tasty and theres a big variety of foods on the menu to choose from.
