Bar Luna in Nanaimo

We had training and dinner from my work last Thursday and we all enjoined this experience very much. Food and drinks were great and service was outstanding. We unfortunately do not know the name of our server- dark hair handsome super nice guy. Thanks Bar Luna!

An interesting We had a special drink (Guava Punch) and appie special, sopas, which were delicious then also tapped into their happy hour menu with the salsa sampler. 3 different salad, all delicious and quite unique in flavor. The Mexican dishes here are authentic and very flavorful. If you like fiery then order the El Fuego drink. Gets you with that the back of the throat heat !

Best food in Nanaimo I swear!!!! And I LOVE the Luna marg <3 food is great every time. I am a vegetarian and I ve gotten something different each time but the potato/bean tacos are my favourite. Definitely come here :)

Used to be one of my favourite spots in Nanaimo, now not sure we will ever return. Overpriced food which definitely wasn t the case when they first opened. Food quality has gone way down. Today called to order pick up. Tried calling at least 5 times, no one answered. Then my partner went down and the place was a ghost town two workers and the place was full of flies. There s supposed to be a special on Tuesday 3 tacos for $15 but apparently only for dine in and the staff also stated the special is for different tacos than are listed on the menu/website. I m 9 months pregnant so my partner just ordered what I wanted and came home with two tacos and a side of tortilla chips for $20. What a ripoff. Also the tacos were soggy and the mushroom taco which used to be amazing was completely different and not in a good way. Awful experience. You should be ashamed of what you are charging people for the quality you are serving them

Went in for dinner on a slow night there wss maybe only three small groups in there however service was still slow and when I mentioned some food came out of the kitchen cold, some barely warm there was no follow-up or any attempt to rectify it. I had tocos and there version of poutine. It tasted amazing, i was just very disappointed by the temperature and lack of care given by the staff especially with so few clients in at the time. Bar Luna is a bit expensive but worth trying once.

Bar Luna in Nanaimo is like a hidden gem! I recently visited and had their tres leches cake, and it was the most amazing cake Ive ever had. Ive tried many tres leches before, but Bar Luna s was by far the best. The flavors were so rich and authentic, each bite was a delight. The rest of the food was equally fantastic, and even their drinks were great. This place truly feels like a hidden spot in Nanaimo. Highly recommend!

Overall not the greatest experience I ve had. Super expensive. $200 for 4 people and one of us didn t get a main. It was decent food but lacking a lot of flavour since they had a menu change unfortunately.

WOW...our first time at Luna and it wont be our last .The ceviche was fantastic and fresh.The entrees were very flavorful and large portions. The service was friendly and excellent. The churros are a must.

The staff went over and above to meet my needs. The food, from drinks to entrees to dessert was superb. Truly a delight.

Excellent, satisfied my hankering for quality tacos. Had the carnitas taco before I remembered to take a picture. Want to see one? Go have one. They re delicious.

We unfortunately had a pretty bad experience here. Our entrees arrived 90 minutes after we ordered, and we sat with empty drinks most of the time.

We really loved the vibes of this restaurant, and the nachos were to die for. However, our server ignored us most of the meal, my partner doesn t like jalapeños and when asked to remove them from the dish he didn t notify the kitchen which led to my girlfriend being unable to eat her food. Our server also didn t quality check once, and we asked him to get us napkins which he said sure then grabbed them from the table next to us in a practically empty restaurant.

I arrived at 8:30pm and thought it was too late, but I was greeted kindly and the food I ordered was delicious!!!! Tacos are really great!

Everything was fresh and tasty! Great drinks also. The waitress said that the one thing that I ordered was spicy and it definitely was. Loved it

The first couple times we went to Bar Luna, we loved it so much that we hired them to cater our Mexican themed wedding banquet. They did phenomenal job, the communication with the manager Andy was effortless when deciding on menus options and logistics. They took initiative to walk through our venue s kitchen to ensure everything was in order and coordinated with our venue s staff and our wedding coordinator. The day of our wedding, their buffet service was on time and impeccable. Most of all the food was absolutely delicious and we had raving reviews from all our guests. We are so grateful to have chosen Bar Luna for our special day and would recommend them to anyone. Whether you are looking to eat at Bar Luna or have them cater your wedding you won t be disappointed.

LOVED this place and would definitely go back! They were super accommodating, giving us the entire upper level for a large party. The server was very personable and helpful, answering our questions well. The menu was quite extensive with many interesting dishes and I would love to go back to try the things I didn t get to try the first time. Our table ordered many different dishes to share. The churro fries sounded cooler than they were tasty, but the burrito croquettes were to die for. Loaded quesadilla was quite tasty, and the nachos were great. Wheelchair accessibility: Not super accessible as it s an old fire hall redesigned into a restaurant (a few steps of stairs to get in the door, then a few more steps of stairs inside, along with steep narrow stairs to get to the upstairs seating)

If you are in Nanaimo go eat here. We had great food and service.

Good afterwork place

This was our first time here , it was awesome!!!!! Definitely my new favorite place ! The people were great too ! Food

What was suppose to be a celebration was overcome with dissapointment. The ENSALADA DE QUESO FRESCO was misleading with 2 minuscule slices of duck, as well as the burritos and tacos being way too salty. The dessert was good. We left hungry and dissapointed.

If youre coming to Nanaimo for any reason this is the place to dine. 10/10 on all fronts from atmosphere, to the food, to the staff everything is exceptional everytime. Andy is one of the owners and he is always such a pleasure to speak too! Extremely welcoming and his recommendations are always a 10/10 cant go wrong with a drink made by Andy The Luna ceviche is 100/10 I am not a raw fish fan, but this is exceptional and has made me completely change my tune on. The fried chicken thighs are delicious and when you add the slaw and the pickled vegetables to your bite it brings an already exceptional bite to extraordinary levels. Ive tried many of the taco options and every single one is more delicious than the last. Cannot make a wrong decision when you choose this restaurant. Make sure youre visiting here whether youre a local of the island or a visitor this is the place for everyone 10/10 Thank you Andy and team for a wonderful two nights of my vacation being here. Cant wait to come back next visit

First time going to Luna. The service was wonderful and the food was incredible. I ordered the two tacos and chips and salsa. I had one Raja (vegetarian) and Rock Cod. Both were yummy but the Raja was my favourite. My friend had the churro fries and loved them. Vegetarian options: A few vegetarian options which were absolutely my favorite. Im not vegetarian but I often like trying different items off the menu. Dietary restrictions: I am celiac and had no worries when ordering off the menu. Everything was very clearly labeled and I felt very comfortable.

Both items were made incorrectly and labelled incorrectly. Delivery took too long so it was cold but that was the deliveries fault. Not a great experience, maybe we will try in restaurant for better luck and quality. Burrito bites were very good though :)

Unique and delicious nachos. Tasty margaritas. The birria premium tacos were unlike any tacos Ive ever had before. The crispy shells added taste and texture but didnt self destruct into a sloppy mess once bitten into. The broth for dipping the tacos took things to another level. The churros and dipping sauces were a perfect way to complete the meal. Ill definitely be back!

Went in during the lost days between Christmas and NYE with an out of town friend. The atmosphere is really cool. Love the old building. Service was awesome. We only has drinks and appetizers but it was all really good. Definitely go back for a full on meal. Updating to include my 2nd visit. End of February. I just need to point out this time, that the location can be a bit scary. In this visit we (2 men) were meeting a female friend in her 60s who drove up from Victoria. She arrived at the restaurant before us and was very nervous seeing all the homeless people near the restaurant entrance. We arrived a few moments later and were also taken aback by them and felt very nervous walking past them to the restaurant doors. Not the restaurants fault, but just want to point out, its not the best area of town and to be careful. We did worry about our car parked out front and it being broken into (it wasnt). Other than that, being the 2nd time there it was nice as the first. This time we had full meals which were all very good.

Take out order via Ubereats. No description of crispy chicken burrito at all, arrived covered in sauce requiring cutlery. I had requested cutlery when I ordered, but none was sent. Challenging when staying in a hotel. Also, over $20 for a burrito is a bit much.

What a gem this spot was! We went for tacos and this place did not disappoint pair that with great service and tasty drinks it is a you gotta eat here situation or if your out with the friends for happiest and drunks it is THE SPOT!!

Very nice place to go too for a staff function or even with just a couple of people. For those who dont know the bar used too be a old fire station so go check it out. Service was great the food was even better.

Maybe the best tacos outside Mexico.

I have not had the food, as we didnt stay. Upon first entering, there were 2 young girls sitting at the bar visiting with the bartender. They all turned and looked at us as we hesitantly approached, not knowing if we were to wait or to seat ourselves. After some awkward stares from the girls at the bar, I finally had to ask and the bartender directed us to sit anywhere. (The place was empty at 5pm except for these 2 girls.) We were given menus and water right away and he said he would be back. Well, we waited a bit... and then waited a bit more. Still waiting while the Bartender was visiting with the girls at the bar. The place was empty, super Cold (temperature and attitudes) and lacking in friendly service. Im sure the food is fine, but the experience was not worth sticking around for.

Best tacos I ve had, and I eat Mexican regularly anywhere I m visiting. Have been twice so far and each time was mind meltingly good!

Street taco food with a personalized flair. My wife and I shared 4 tacos there and we are still trying to figure out which one was the best. We will be back again.

Mediocre tacos on flavourless, limp tortillas. I ve never had pork belly that tastes like wet goop, so go here if that s what you re into. This is the kind of food that you d be disappointed about even if someone gave it to you for free after days of not eating. Automatic 20% tip added that we weren t told about before dining or was mentioned on the menu for a group of only 6 people. They re too cheap to turn on the heat in a snowstorm, ended up shivering all night. I m excited to see what establishment moves into the space next, because this restaurant won t last!

Wow! I cannot recommend this place enough. A group of eleven of us visited on NYE for dinner, and normally you d expect with a group that size for something to go amiss, but our waitress was just exceptional. They also were able to accommodate a few different food allergies. We all walked away raving about our dishes and couldn t stop talking about the food and margaritas all evening. I felt the prices were very fair for the quality of food and meal size. It is an upscale Mexican restaurant that obviously has put a lot of time and love into the menu, not a taco truck. Can t wait to return!

I have been to Bar Luna twice now and I love it. The nachos are perfect, they have the right amount of chip to toppings. They are loaded with tasty beans, guac, and different types of cheese. Everything was seasoned well and fresh. Cocktails are well balanced and go down easy. Definitely eat here!

I loved my experience here, our waitress was so kind and professional it was refreshing. I initially did not come here based on photos of the Tacos online, they just didn t appeal to me but after someone else mentioned it again I went to try for myself and these were hands down some of the best tacos we ever had. My husband had the burrito and it was spectacular. We will be back!

This quaint little place is nestled in the old Firehouse Grill, downtown Nanaimo. The only downfall is location and parking. We went there around 4:30 on a Friday and were the first dinner rush customers. I ordered: Diablo (taco) 8.5 spicy shrimp, guacamole, mozzarella Chorizo 8.25 ground pork, guacamole, mozzarella, queso fresco, cabbage slaw, jalapeno crema These were delicious, a bit messy, but finger licking good I thought there was a bit too much sauce but still quite tasty. My grandson ordered: Crispy Chicken 20.75 for 3 marinated chicken thigh, red cabbage slaw, chipotle aioli And said they were delish. I would definitely come here again and try something different. There is lots to choose from. I took an order of chicken burrito home for my hunny, and he very much enjoyed this dish, saying it was better than another popular Mexican place in town. (I wont say who ) As we were leaving, it just started filling up. Tip: Get there early if you want a quiet dinner

I have tried almost all of the Tacos and they were all so good! The Nachos are so tasty as well. I think the price and portion size were worth it. I have been a few times and its consistently good. Defiantly recommend.

Food was awesome! Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was nice but VERY loud, hard to have a conversation but we were in the middle of the room as we were a party of 8. My only objection is the automatic 20% gratuity bcuz we were a party of 8. A gratuity should be up to the dining individuals, not predetermined by the restaurant. Wheelchair accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible that I noticed

First visit and were thrilled to find out they take food allergies very seriously. Separate deep fryer for gluten free which is rare. Most of the menu is gluten free as well. We had 6 in our party so we covered off a large part of the menu and everyone was very satisfied with their meal. My burrito was 10/10 delicious. Great communication from the staff and service was very good. We had a delay on one of our desserts but they doubled it up at no extra charge. Coming back for sure! I saw this place pop up on the delivery apps and thought Id give it a go. I moved here from the US in 2019 and I have been missing high-end Mexican desperately so I was pleasantly surprised to find such phenomenal tacos locally. I had the fish taco and my sister and I shared the nachos and the churros. All of the food was absolutely next level. Ive thought about the nachos and churros a ton since. The dipping sauces for the churros are like magic, honestly. My birthday is in a couple of weeks and Ill 100% be visiting the old firehouse in person to experience the food fresh from the kitchen and to try one of those margaritas everyone is raving about.

Im always looking for great, not good, Mexican food. The fresh guacamole was sensational with seasoned chips. Apparently they make a stiff margarita plus have non alcoholic drinks as well. We were a party of 10 and they handled all of us no problem. The atmosphere was wonderful, sometimes the music was too loud, it was hard to have a conversation, thats my only downer about the place. I had the fish tacos and they were so delicious!! I recommend this place for great, not good Mexican food!

Absolutely comical the prices they charge for their food. It was ready 10 mins after ordering, never a good sign. Could tell meat was not fresh. Honestly seems like it was microwaved. Small portions.

The freshest food around! We started with chips, guacamole and pico and also calamari w chipotle aioli. It was all delicious. The guac is wow - layers of flavours. Then we each picked 3 tacos to try, my faves were the hard shell style, the poblano pepper one specifically. My husband loved the carnitas. Churros were the perfect way to end the meal with 3 different dipping sauces. The restaurant atmosphere came alive as the sun set and the background music was great. Their drink menu has lots of interesting and fun drinks to pick from. We tried a few and all were tasty. Maybe pricey? What isn t these days! I felt the prices for what you get a bit unfair. Cocktail was way overpriced for a glass full of foam.

Ok first the food-I ordered the diablo, crispy chicken and the rajas I think it was called. The diablo was great, the chicken hood and I didn t care for the rajas. Next time I ll be trying the Al pastor and barbacoa. We ordered the churros to go because we were so uncomfortable (I ll get to that in a second) and they were raw inside, ew). Next the decor/interior-we were sat at a tiny round table in the center of the restaurant. The table was so small it couldn t even fit our plates, she had to take away our appy cause she brought the mains out way too fast and couldn t fit it on our table. Other people that were seated at these tables asked to move and if they couldn t they left (more than one table) we decided to stick it out but we shouldn t have it was horrible. Everyone in the restaurant had a direct view of us. Uncomfy. The bar seating at the window is useless, should ve kept the tables that used to be there when it was previous business. Anyway. I will go again but I will refuse to sit at those tables. Waitress and hostess were meh, could use more training.

Amazing food. The owner and all other waitstaff were attentive and very friendly. Food was outstanding. I had the fish taco and crispy chicken taco, highly recommend. The house made chips were insane. They accommodated the modifications that the other people in our group made to their meals and did not disappoint. The churros at the end were the Cherry on top of a perfect meal. I m surprised to see other peoples complaints about prices when EVERY restaurants prices have gone up. This was worth every cent and can t wait to go back. Thanks Luna!

We started with with guacamole and pico de gaillo appetizer. The best! We had a variety of soft and crispy tacos. They were all very good but the Magic Mushroom taco is my new love. We ordered all three desserts and honestly they are scrumptious. Especially the Tres Leches. Our server was attentive and helpful with our choices. The decor and the ambiance feels exotic. A solid five gold stars. Yahoo!

We dined at bar Luna on Saturday night. We did not have a reservation which are recommended, but they managed to fit us in anyways! I cannot say enough how much I enjoyed our tacos. They even made a spicy jalapeño margarita for me which made me very happy as I ve been looking for a place that serves jalapeño margaritas. If you ve never had jalapeño margarita, you must try it! Unfortunately I did not take pictures,we will definitely be back to try more very soon as I can t stop thinking about the Carne Asada and just how delicious it was. The food was bursting with flavour. The staff friendly and professional.

Very cute little place! Service was wonderful and the food was even better. We had the guacamole with chips and burritos. Very delicious. We are always looking for places that are a bit more unique and not just a chain restaurant, and this place was perfect! We will be coming back.

I came here to celebrate my birthday with my partner. I tried as much as I could get my hands on. Everything was top notch! Presentation was beautiful, ample toppings, great sizes, everything tasted like it was done correctly. Service was excellent, the whole team the night I came was quick and knowledgeable .

There are lots of reviews talking about prices being too high, but its clear to see the time and care thats goes into their menu and business, and I would always rather patronize a small business than a chain regardless of pricing. Nanaimo is lucky to have nice new restaurants downtown, and Bar Luna is among them. Thanks to the Bar Luna team for your contribution!

Good food! A little pricey and if there are more than four of you, an 18 percent gratuity will be added to your bill. The service was a little slow, but the food was excellent!

Lovely place! We didnt have a reservation on a busy Saturday but were seated right away at the high chairs near the windows with a wonderful view of the waterfront. The first thing our server asked us was if we had any allergies or dietary restrictions. We had the Luna Margherita and Mezcal Margherita which was rated highly in the reviews but it did not fully match our expectations. Moreover, they served it in regular glasses so we didnt feel like we were having margheritas! We ordered the Nachos to share and it was a big portion for two! Wonderful, creamy, garlicky guac and nachos made inhouse which were perfect - not too oily! Unfortunately we were too full and didnt get to try their tacos, will go back for sure. The servers were wonderful and kept coming back to see how we were doing. Its a nice, cozy place with not too much clutter and minimal decor.

Great friendly staff. Biggest taco selection on the Island. Well priced compared to costs. Avocados are expensive. Don t compare it to bar burrito.

What a neat place. I went on a Friday night, and it wasnt terribly busy, which was very nice because it wasnt very loud. Our waitress was very attentive and really personable. The food was incredible, I will definitely be going back.

What is in this evening for margarita and tacos. The food was very tasty. And the margarita was tasty but extremely overpriced. &1.00 additional for Spicy margarita- please don t nickel and dime your customers. $13 for guacamole and chips? wow Also the margarita was extremely small and served in a very small rocks glass very expensive for what it was, tasty but over priced Although it was tasty I d not go back. Such a shame there could be a opportunity for a really nice Mexican restaurant but they served you a flat taco on a pizza pan. No atmosphere service absolutely was terrible. I will say taco was ok but overall thumbs down Too pricey-save yourself the money and go to a food truck

I m SO happy to find a new home. I moved here from the Sunshine Coast and thought I d never find something as good as Lunitas, but here it is! Amazing Mexican food with delicious drinks! This spot definitely brings a unique flavor to Nanaimo! We tried a bit of everything - tacos, burritos, and dessert. While some of the flavors were a bit too brash for me, I definitely enjoyed the meal! I love the barbacoa taco and the churros. Delicious!

I ordered the $12.99 Salsa Tasting & Lime Chips, $7.99 Pollo El Carbon soft taco, and $7.50 Pescado soft taco through Door Dash for Cinco Del Mayo. The salsas were flavourful and fresh. The chips although crispy, did not have a taste of lime. The chips were warm on arrival. Overall lovely flavored salsas but will not recommend due to the cost. Pescado ST - delicious but mushy, likely due to it being delivered. I expect if you ordered this in-house it would have a better texture than in a delivery situation. Would order again, if in the restaurant. Pollo El Carbon ST - Winner of the night. This was like a flavour bomb. Chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. Toppings were fresh and added the fireworks to the taste. Yes, Id order it again. I should add that the two soft tacos were very filling, each contained lots of protein and toppings. I was happily satisfied with the food.

Best tacos in my life!

Always delicious. Mighty mushroom tacos are my personal favourite . Ive been 3 times now and have always had a great experience. 3 tacos + 2 alcoholic drinks came to $75. The burrito is really big, someone else in our party got that, next time Id get the burrito for a better value. The tacos are delicious but definitely priced as a premium product. Vegetarian options: 3 vegetarian tacos, the nachos are vegetarian, and the burrito has 1 (maybe 2) options.

This is the restaurant that Nanaimo desperately needed. Elevated Mexican food in a beautiful space. I recommend the Aguachile as a starter! Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and drink. Service was great and the owner was friendly.

Came here with my coworkers to give one of our mates a farewell, and was delighted with Luna. Great food and service, definitely a place to try again and again!

Everything on this menu is an absolute banger. Delicious, insanely so. Get the churros, you must. Restaurant is comfortable, staff is friendly and efficient, such a pleasure to eat here.

Very beautiful old building. Tacos were generally very delicious but some were hit and miss. The magic mushroom very yummy, the tofu vegan one not so much..very salty. I really like the soft corn taco, but the crispy taco were a bit greasy. The mango desert was really good as were the churos. Over all it was good and would recommend.

Absolutely amazing. Me and my SO are new to town, we wanted to treat ourselves to a happy hour to celebrate life and Bar Luna did NOT disappoint. The Ahi Tuna Ceviche was easily my favourite thing (that sauce that they top it with was SO GOOD I could drink it). The happy hour tacos I had was great value (a whole chicken thigh for the crispy chicken) and was tasty, well balance, and full of flavour. We will be back 100%.

The best meal we had in Nanaimo and the tastiest Mexican I ve had in years (growing up in So Cal I ve had a lot). The ceviche is unique and flavorful. The salsa trio with guacamole is fantastic plus the chips are warm. The cocktails are creative and yummy! Hibiscus sour, mezcal margarita and mezcal paperplane were enjoyed. We had barbacoa, carnitas, and mushroom tacos. They were all out of this world! The churros are a perfect way to end a perfect meal. The bartender is from New Zealand and he was delightful to chat with and provided perfect service.

I have never rated anything on google before but this place was so good that I had to tell people about it. Food was some of the best I ve had out in a LONG time. Amazingly attentive servers, and the atmosphere was beautiful!!! We will definitely be back again

Pretty great little place in Nanaimo with some tasty takes on Mexican cuisine. Not uber-traditional fare, if that matters. The halibut ceviche is excellent, highly recommend.

Wasn t a fan at all. Food was overly seasoned. We are talking ocean levels of salty. The price did not reflect the quality of the food and service nor the generosity (or lack thereof) of the kitchen. There is a much better and more authentic Mexican experience in Nanaimo if you but only go out of your way to seek them out if you wake up sighing about tacos, you will want to find them.. there s your clue

Bar Luna has the answer to all your woes, with tacos and handhelds of the food in a blanket variety, I had the al pastor pork tacos with their spiciest offerings of in house hot sauce (hot enough to melt the tastebuds right off your tongue!) washed down with the Blue Island Iced Tea (with edible candied orange slice!) The perfect spot, nestled away in the quiet corners of Nanaimo BC 10/10 would recommend to anyone in the area, looking for a classy, comfortable, warm and inviting environment with all the tasty tacos and fixings for a spice aficionado like myself!

Amazing food ! Amazing drinks ! We sampled several dishes and were impressed with the quality and how delicious it was ! This will be on our regular rotation of restaurants we support in Nanaimo. Food was cold when it was served. Nachos weren t great, like a solid block of cheese on some chips. And no mojitos! How sad. By the end of our meal we felt like we were rushed out with still half hour to close. Prices do not reflect the experience.

Absolutely, awesome. We had a Friday night dinner for our 38th Anniversary with our son and his partner. We traveled up from Victoria just for this dinner and were not disappointed. The ambiance is fantastic, the service was terrific and the food was delicious! This is a must if you are in Nanaimo.

The tacos were good and I like how you can mix and match them, although Im not sure if Im a fan of the style of shell and I wish there was more of a variety of items (enchiladas would be great). The drinks were a little small, but pretty good. I really liked the vibe too.

The food is pricey but worth it! The service was great, I just felt bad that they were clearly short staffed and the waitress seemed stressed. But Nessa was a great server, and had my friend and I laughing. My friend swears by their margaritas and there were a good amount of mocktails available for a sober gal like me. The food was awesome, and the atmosphere is super cozy.

A great discovery of a new restaurant in downtown Nanaimo, only open since September. Located in a historic firehall with eclectic decor they serve delicious well-priced Mexican food. Interesting industrial fittings in the restrooms add ambience.

I am a taco aficionado. Tacos are one of my favourite foods. However, I was hesitant to try Luna because I have been burned by the local taco places in Nanaimo. Generally, they are not up-to-standard and are insanely overpriced and/or poor quality (ie, cheap ingredients that lack flavour and likely nutrition). Nanaimos food scene is sad overall. But that is a whole other story. But Luna was a pleasant surprise (to no fault of their own)! I ordered two veggie tacos the other day with a side of pico de gallo (and chips), and I was obsessed. Specifically, I had the rajas (poblano pepper tacos) and veggie chorizo (tofu based). I was vegetarian and plant-based for years, so I am confident judging veggie dishes. I have to give so much credit to Luna. Typically, veggie dishes are less thought out when compared to their meat counterparts and often are just plain bland and disappointing. Luna exceeded my expectations. Both tacos were perfectly flavoured and substantial. Again, I have to credit Luna for using quality ingredients. I can taste the difference. With that in mind, Lunas prices are more than reasonable and justified. Tonight, my fiance and I had the chorizo (he had the meat, and I had the veggie again), barbacoa, and al pastor. My fiance really enjoyed them and had no complaints. I really enjoyed the pineapple salsa on top of the al pastor. And the barbacoa was flavoured perfectly. I continued to enjoy the tofu chorizo. I am not a big fan of animal protein sources, out of preference, but everything was still delicious. I should add that the pastor, chorizo (both kinds) and barbacoa had generous portions of protein. So it is safe to say you are getting your moneys worth. Additionally, I noticed a few reviews complain about the cabbage and consider it filling. Still, I must say, it is helpful to have filling like that when you are eating such rich foods to break down the heaviness. So Im afraid I have to disagree with some of the negative reviews. But to each their own. I strongly encourage anyone to try Luna. They use quality ingredients, season their food deliciously, and charge a fair price. I hope Bar Luna can flourish in Nanaimo. Because we need more quality restaurants that provide great food, excellent service and fair prices (and the bonus is that Luna is serving us tacos!). Vegetarian options: So flavourful and well-thought out

Delicious. This is not for those who like basic or bland tacos. Interesting meat textures and options for those who are adventurous (pork belly for their carnitas which I loved). Yes, it s pricey but the quality is there so it s justifiable. When we went the heat didn t work and we were dressed up so we shivering cold they re getting it fixed, old building. Just in case you see this and are going, wear something nice and warm. No space heaters etc brought in and marble tables and metal chairs. Everything was delicious, we shared a mixture of tacos, barbacoa was a favourite amongst our group, flavourful and crunchy, super moist and delicious. Fish taco was great, battered and sauced well, and the unique taco was carnitas which was delicious pork belly with pickled onion to balance the richness. We were all super impressed, our nachos were overly salted but delicious nonetheless. We were super full with 4 tacos each so did not get dessert myself but wanted to when my friend said she would come back solely for the tres leches cake. It looked great. Overall we had a good time and staff were attentive. Drinks looked great. Vegetarian options: Lots of options. Dietary restrictions: Options for all, maybe not the best vegan options but great vegetarian. Corn tortillas for gluten free. Parking: Lots of parking, pay parking until 5pm large lot. Street parking alongside restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible at all, lots of stairs.
