While it was tidy, the actual dining experience was sub-par. I'm a simple girl from Arizona, and I mean this with no exaggeration: Quesedilla means effectively "Cheese Crisp". They are supposed to be melty, and the cold cheese that had not melted was just the icing on this particularly bad cake. Do better. It was 630pm on a Wednesday, the client population was 3 people, you should not be rushing a Quesedilla out well before the cheese is melted in that situation especially. Also the flavoring on the churros goes ALL THE WAY AROUND, not just one one side of the churro. Learning this is a chain and the Nanaimo location is notorious from reviews, I can say confidently it is a solid skip.
Listen if you don’t like your job, you really shouldn’t make it the patrons problem. I know it’s hard working in the fast food industry and that people suck but your lady working the evening of wed. Oct 20th at around 2pm was probably coldest unhappiest worker I’ve seen in a while and the most visually disappointing - horribly made burrito that was smaller than my hand and I have small hands (hungriest) and she was quite literally rolling her eyes as I asked for a bit more sour cream… sorry if that came out of your paycheck. I was the ONLY customer in the store and there was no need to rush.
I had a spicy chicken burrito today, and it was the worst food I have had in a long time. I threw out about 1/3 of it because the rice was tasteless, and it had almost no chicken. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
Received tacos without the extras I paid for and didn’t get the tomatoes I ordered on them and the tacos were still wet w just a tiny amount of cheese (when I paid for extra) , some sour cream, guac, and the veggie meat idk why they were like dripping wet especially when they missed the tomatoes. Also didn’t receive multiple extras paid for on a burrito no guac no cheese no lime crema, all things I asked for, and only tasted the chicken halfway through trying to eat it
Barburrito has gone down hill, I have been going here for over a year they discontinued Barbacoa when I asked for chicken bang bang, he tried to serve me chicken that was by no means fresh i caught him reaching under the counter for chicken that sat around for who knows how long. I asked for onions and green peppers. He put corn on when i never asked for corn. 26/10/2024 at 4:45pm I won’t be spending any more money at Barburrito… poor quality food service at least at this location downtown Nanaimo at Port place mall…
I was surprised and highly disappointed at the quality of the food at this location. Having frequented several Toronto-based locations, I was under the impression it would be the same process chain-wide. I stopped by this location and ordered a $17 burrito box. The young woman behind the counter was friendly and sweet - but she must be following orders to give lacklustre and skimpy portions. I was fine with a small amount of rice and beans but she acted like the large container of guacamole was on its last dribs & drabs the way she barely added any. The second half of the box includes fries, nacho chips, ground beef and melted cheese. I didn’t see it being made. It wasn’t until later when I opened the container to discover I received two nacho chips and a few fries topped with a meagre portion of ground beef. Y’all need to stop this ridiculous process. Charging an exorbitant amount of money for a half-filled takeout box is despicable. UPDATE: received a response from corporate. Their “solution” was to offer me a $5 credit. What an absolute joke of an establishment. I guess being cheap and miserly is a company standard. BarBurrito has lost my patronage for good.
I usually order through my app so it is ready before I get to the resturant to pick up. I tried to place my order at 8:03pm, however, I wasn't able too. I went into the resturant and all the chairs were up on the table so you couldn't sit anywhere. I asked the lady if I could still order because my app didn't allow me to. She said it was because they close in 57 minutes so they shut the app down. I ordered a mild chicken quesadilla. I watched her make it. There was so little cheese put on the tortilla it was pathetic. I asked for more cheese but apparently that is extra. I asked for tomatoes, onion, and green pepper. She replied that they had no tomatoes. I said "seriously that is one of the most important toppings". She said "well you do get salsa", to which I responded that they aren't exactly the same. When I got to my vehicle and checked my bag I realized thry didn't give me my salsa. So my husband ran in to grab me some. We got home, which is a 5 minute drive. I open my food up to put it on a plate. The whole thing was so soggy & floppy is was disgusting. I have frequented other Bar Burtito locations and haven't had such a bad meal. Highly disappointed, I would suggest the North Nanaimo location if you are wanting to eat here. Such a big disappointment.
This place does food well ! Love their bowls, it’s pretty, loaded and delectable! I got their pulled pork ! Made it into a combo of spicy and sweet ( perfect combo ) value for money ! A picture of my friends bowls too :) thanks bar burrito !!:)

Good food, good price. Wont be hungry after. 2024 edit. So I feel like something has changed. I went at 5pm and the restaurant was empty. I got a regular chicken burrito and it felt smaller than usual. And I was definitely hungry after. I used to love this place because of its large portions. Not anymore sadly :(. Parking: Parking is limited and only allowed to stay 1hr
It seems Barburrito may have come under new ownership the portion sizes are too small and the prices are too high though it does taste good still I wont be purchasing here anymore.

Came in after hearing about a free birthday churro offer. Had signed up with the app and the offer wasn t showing up. Came through for me and gave me the free churro anyway!
Had a small burrito that had 3 tiny pieces of chicken in it and a quesadilla that was cold by the time it was served and not well heated or melted.
I paid for a medium and got a small.Basically there ripping you off there now like get new workers there
So sad that the business got new owners recipes have changed portions have gotten smaller the employees have no care for customers and food quality isnt close to as amazing as before im heartbroken about what this place has turned into nobody cares anymore i miss Jacquie

Dont order take out from this location. We ordered two burritos with various toppings, and sauces, but recieved 2 sloppy burritos with only rice and beans. When I called to dicuss the mistake, which happens to everyone, the guy got very defensive and rude and said go get a refund. I would guess their doing this to keep food costs as cheap as possible to make as much money from each order. Cheap scammers!
Staff were unhappy and don t offer a pleasant customer experience. The tip option is extremely laughable.

Was extremely upset with my order today. No chips or salsa because they had no chips today. Found out after i pay and given a box with no chips or salsa. When i asked where they were and was rudely told there were none. I asked if they were going to refund the missing items and rudely told no. No sign saying no chips. If there was i could of gone somewhere else They advertise meal with chips n salsa. They charge $3 for side. I was stolen from ! Good way to lose customers

If you re not familiar, this is essentially a Mexican food version of Subway, where you can customize your own burrito/taco rather than sub sandwich. The serving size is absolutely huge. I m a big guy who can pack it away and I have a hard time finishing a large burrito. My wife usually has a fish taco salad and loves it. This location is licenced so you can get a Corona with your meal for the full Mexican experience.
Its what you would expect still fast food but it was good !

Huge filling burritos!
Lots of food for the price, fresh ingredients. I barely got any veggies though (small handful of each, I had to ask for more of everything to get a good balance) compared to the size of the burrito. They fill it with rice, beans and lettuce (I assume to save money on the other ingredients). Sauce was sad for the amount of burrito, even though I asked for extra. May have been my personal experience but my pregnancy craving was not at all satisfied.
This place is going down hill, since the new owner ship! VERY small servings, always have to ask for extra because the teaspoon sized serving of lettuce, cheese is the same, then they charge 2$ for another little tiny sprinkle of cheese. The kicker, they want a tip at the end! Original owners were the best !
After several terrible experiences with BarBurrito in Ottawa a couple of years ago, I had sworn never to give another dime to the franchise. Ive been in Nanaimo for a couple of months now and have been craving this style of burrito but it wasnt until my gf told me its night and day from the Ottawa locations that I decided to give it one more try. And Im glad I did. Whereas my previous experience was a dry, rice filled, Burrito with hardly any meat and wilted, soggy veggies, this place is the exact opposite. The generous serving of pulled pork and fresh veggies topped with their delicious house jalapeno hot sauce was simply fantastic. *UPDATE* Under the new management, this place has taken a dive. The staff is no longer the friendly faces we used to know and the new faces are cold and miserable. The portion sizes for the meat have shrunk and its like pulling teeth trying to get them to put a decent amount of veggies. No longer a regular. Would not recommend.
This BarBurrito location is absolutely incredible! The service and quality of food is something to appreciate. You will not be disappointed, I guarantee it. The food portions are generous and the staff is always friendly. The owner of this location goes above and beyond!
Will not go back! Horrible service. Over priced for what you get. Bland taste to the food (Its Mexican, that should be impossible). Tonight was a Try it again after previous disappointments. Was good when first opened, seems to have changed owners(?). They have new chicken sandwiches I wanted to try. I asked if I could get different toppings, jazz it up, I was provided a very quick NO. (they literally have a buffet of toppings that you are looking at under the glass in front of you just sitting there, but NO was the answer) OK, go for the classic Burrito. Asked for Guacamole, told $1 extra, yup, very common and expected, please proceed. I watched as the server used what looked like a grandma style butter knife gingerly balance what she could (aka a tiny amount) on the flat portion of the utensil and place it on my Burrito. I stopped her and said If Im paying $1 for the topping, at least give me the $1s worth please. She countered with You are allowed one scoop, no more Seriously?? The actual eating of the food, bland and boring. Im not big on spicy, so it doesnt take much for me, so if Im saying its bland.... Will not go back. I do not recommend this location.
Seriously, theyre operation has tanked since new ownership took over... approx. A year ago now? My patients just finally ended. They act like salt bea (look him up) with their vegetables, sprinkling very little and needing to be told repeatedly to add. Overloading the rice and beans instead. They dont promote their Monday burritos deals, or the exceptions to the deal. Is this their version of Starbucks spelling names wrong on purpose? Is this suppose to be cute? Im confused with their desire to be a hindrance vs being apart of someones break in the day.

One of the best and healthiest meal I have ever had. The portions are up to mark and if needed more the staff happily makes it happen with a smile. The types of sauces they have are amazing. The most I like is bang bang a bit of sweet and tangy, and if you are a spicy sauce fan then their Signature hot sauce is amazing. And burrito sauce. Overall its heartiest food over here. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian food options are more than any other restaurants. Parking: Multiple parking spot at the front and if that is full there is a place for parking in Casino parking Kid-friendliness: Kids menu option are very good Quesadilla are the best for kids there. Wheelchair accessibility: They have seating availability for people on wheelchair.

Pretty value. Portions are huge. Ive been a few times. Was really impressed when it first opened. Still nice now. Like a busy Subway to me. Parking: Usually a few spots directly outside. Youll always find free parking near by.
I dont know but I have tried after a while And seems like taste so diffrently. It was terrible, they are adding just pinch of veggies. As they just added only 14 corns on my barrito bowl. 75% of bowl was filled with rice. And yeh feels like they totally change the sauces, total bland. Disappointed.
I got the shrimp tacos, and they were pretty good. All in, 2 orders of tacos, 2 extra orders of chips and salsa and 1 drink cost about $48 but I blame skip the dishes for all the additional costs. I m sure it s a lot more palatable if you pick up or eat in. The only thing I would mention is the amount of salt on the chips. It was so much I couldn t finish more than half of the order. I ve never ordered from them before, so I m not sure if that was a one time mistake, so I m guessing the top of the shaker fell off or something.

I use to love barburrito...and then something happened along the way. I keep going back thinking it will be better, but it keep disappointing me. Im officially done with the port place location. I hope this review brings forth some changes. Food just doesnt seem fresh or flavourable.
Arrived just before 1pm on a Sunday. Fairly busy but wait was short. Fresh ingredients, large portions and lots of steak included in my steak bowl. My wife enjoyed her spicy chicken burrito.
Ive gotten extremely sick with food poisoning the past two times Ive been. Thought it was a one off and Id try again. Nope never again.
It is your basic burrito joint. I do enjoy their bowls but I find the meat and veggies are hit and miss. Quite generous portions.

The staff were not friendly at all. There was rock hard pieces of chicken in my food. There was another customer that went to counter because his burrito was soaked through and falling apart and he was told thats the way it is not impressed....wont be back. Also the tables were all dirty and it wasnt busy.

With so many taco places to choose from, it can be hard to decide where to satisfy that craving. My heart and stomach have decided that Bar Burrito Port Place Mall is the only place to meet my taco needs. Not only is the food delicious, fresh, and reasonably priced, the owner is a true gem. Inconsistent. Three tacos: 1st taco got full scoop of cheese. 2nd taco got 3/4 scoop cheese. 3rd taco got 1/4 scoop of cheese. Also watched an online order being created threw jalapeño s on the bowl and after rechecking the phone screen proceeded to pick every single one off.

Very solid and tasty burrito, assembled in a subway-style lineup where you add the ingredients you wish after choosing your primary protein option. Quick, easy, filling, and reasonably priced. Nothing too special about the venue or service, but its fast-food, and they were quick and efficient.
Just tried their new street tacos. Yuck! Hardly anything in them! It was like eating a tortilla full of soup! Never again!!! I don t know how this place has good reviews! What I got was pure garbage! Taco Bell would have been better for the same price!
I m just mad because the doors were open 10 minutes before closing but they said they were closed and they were putting away the products. I told them I was going to give them a bad review and I keep my word. I always gave positive reviews when they show up on my news feed but I can t anymore. It s a shame.

Had the Bang bang shrimp bowl in the summer of 2021. It was amazing, with fresh fried shrimp. We were excited to go back and have it again this year. Unfortunately they have decided to pre cook the shrimp and leave them sitting in a warming tray for what seemed to be several hours too long. The shrimp were also so over cooked they had become little black pieces of leather. We ate half our meals and threw the rest out. I would never get this meal again if they continue to prepare it this way. If the restaurant reads these please go back to how you prepared this last year!
This place is a diamond in the rough. Its kind of like a Mexican Subway. You order what size if you want in a bowl or a wrap what type of meat you want what type of beans you want. Then you get to ask cheese which vegetables which sauces and if you would like a meal (chips and drink). If you get the large bowl an add extra chicken, get some extra veggies added in, it becomes a meal for two. Edit 1+ year later=-= my latest two bowls have been a let down. The black beans were a soupy mix, the scoops of chicken were tiny. Not as flavorful as I remember. Down from 5 stars to 3.

This place is unique in that it is licensed and has a bar like feel. The real draw is the authentic ingredients and flavors. Coupled with the build your burrito option this place has something tasty and different to offer.

Ordered 2 bowls... Asked for sauce on the side... Arrived like soup because of the additional sauces ordered on the side, called to report that it arrived like soup and with missing ingredients and the yelled at me and hung up on me. Im out $51.15. Avoid at all costs. So hungry now. Big mistake. Wish I could post a picture so you could see what I received.
The new location is nice. Friendly staff, good food. My only issue I wasnt told the guacamole was an extra dollar until I was paying. Also the Jarritos cost $3.50!
This place has the best burritos I have ever eaten at fast walk through Mexican style place. The price is great, and the taste is even better. I highly recommend trying out their food if your near one of their locations.
Not happy at all. Tried this place as it s always talked about. Well for $14 and all my burrito contained was beans . Zero sour cream, very little lettuce, cheese and tomatoes and all of those toppings were order. My burrito was so full of liquid from the beans after 3 bites the whole thing fell apart and I was not able to finish it, not to mention wearing the whole thing in the car. I m not sure if this is an issue with the employee who wrapped it but this is very unacceptable and I will NOT be returning.

We ate hear a couple weekends ago. We got very sick later. It was tested by the doctor and we got ecoli from eating at this location. It was the only place we ate. Eat with caution!
Workers have bad attitude about specialties and just everything in general. Portions for salsa and chocolate are very small and disappointing. Half the time it isn t a burrito but more of an impossible to eat ball. Slowly becoming more disappointing by the day.

The ingredients didn t look amazing but I was hungry and decided to buy it anyway. Big mistake, it tasted fine at the start where there was more rice but when I got to the middle of the burrito, where the lettuce and crispy chicken was, it was terrible. The lettuce was soggy and when I looked at it was brown. The crispy chicken was soggy and didn t taste good. To sum it up I would not recommend this restaurant because of the poor service, bad food, etc. (written by my 13 yr old son)

Had an unpleasant experience this morning. Chips were not fresh. A few requests we asked on the kids menu and the box was literally thrown on the cashier bar in front of us. They were just too lazy to even pack everything in a paper bag. Im hardly having a positive experience at any of the barburrito locations these days. Preferring quesada. Maybe a permanent goodbye to barburrito!

I stopped in to grab a burrito before taking the ferry. Really enjoyed it - similar to MuchoBurrito (maybe better). I had the ancho chipotle sauce - it was great. Really good fresh ingredients. Sounds like you can get gluten free tortillas there - I had the real deal (whole wheat) - highly recommend it! The owner was behind the counter - very nice lady

Was just at the port place location & was very shocked when the teenage male blew is nose right in front of me as well as other customers and didnt wash his hands. He just put plastic gloves on and proceeded to make the food orders. Gross

I used to love coming here because the bowls were such a good deal. The last few months the portions are way smaller but the price has gone up. The staff seem to have been coached to skimp on everything lately. My partner had the burrito and she said the same thing. Bar burrito is no longer my go to, the one in the north is much better unfortunately
Don t even try and speak to the owner, didnt even bother listening to me and didn t care. Cold fries and barely any in the box come on
We like bar burrito but the service seemed really rushed considering we were the only ones in there at the time. Burrito bowl is my go to and my husband really likes the large burritos. Vegetarian options: They had veggie options Parking: Hard to park close on a busy day but its a big lot youll always find something Kid-friendliness: Kids love the cheese quesadilla and chips

The large burrito size is massive and can easily feed two people. The loaded fries are perfect to share if each of you are nabbing a rrito. A must-visit for a quick lunch or dinner (or breakfast, why not?).
