O’Falafel in Nanaimo

Just the most delicious shawarma Ive had in forever!!! Such quick service, and I love that it was pressed in a panini press and so was hot and kind of crispy. Perfect on the go lunch spot, made me feel much better than a burger!

The shawarma here is really good and the best thing is they put a lot of chicken in it whereas in other places they hesitate to put chicken as if they don t have it enough in the store to make the day. Great ambience and service and they also have a other grocery stuffs as well, really a good place and its super affordable.

My go-to whenever I go to Nanaimo. So fresh and friendly, so yummy, so fast! I had a falafel for lunch and eating the hummus and baba ghanoush for dinner. So good!

Great family run business, best donairs and shawarma I have ever had plus a fine selection of middle Eastern treats.

Best falafel in town.

This place is delicious across the board. My partner had a shawarma and said it was flavorful meat, fresh vege, and soft pita. I had a falafel plate with salad, hummus, baba ganoush and dolmades. Every bite was fresh and the flavors were specific to the owner and their personal recipe. I have a dairy allergy and the plate he made for me was safe and I had no negative reaction after. We also had a coffee and baklava-the coffee had hints of cardamom and sweetness to it (delicious) and my partner said the baklava tasted homemade. There is a small storefront in the shop and I took home a block of halva..to which I am still eating. Worth a visit! Updated: I m sorry l know the owner is running a one man show even at his busiest time l hope your not in a hurry anyway it s too bad his wraps are not consistent in flavour and ingredients , l have been going there steadily for the past few months but today was my last time my Falafel was a mess of flavours that just didn t work at all overkill on the sauces it s never a good thing when you are eating a falafel wrap and you are unable to taste the falafels . I truly believe it s very important to be consistent (standardized recipes) .

I come here at least one a week for take-out falafel. I love supporting this local Syrian refugee family, and their food is excellent.

Delicious shawarma, donairs and middle eastern wraps. Great prices and generous portions. The wraps are lightly grilled which is a nice touch as most of the time these kind of wraps are not grilled. The owner is SO kind and works hard to prepare everyones order quickly. We will be back.

Absolutely incredible. Short story: Very tasty food, endearing service, great prices. Long story: Ordered two beef shawarma, a large lentil soup, and a Greek salad, when I went to pay at the end, the lovely person there apologized for the wait (which was less than 15 minutes), and they tried to skip through the tip option. When I gave a cash tip, they politely tried to give me a smaller bill back. Got home and the food was just heavenly. Everything about the experience was lovely, I would rate it higher if I could.

The chicken Shawarma my wife had and the Beef shawarma i had were really tasty and nicely put together, it would be really good walking around food in better weather. The Baklava was also really tasty, the phyllo pastry was nice and crisp but not burnt and the honey was great.

This might be my favorite place to eat in Nanaimo. My first time coming here was 4 days ago and since then I came here every day but one. This is authentic middle eastern (Syrian) food and it s delicious and healthy. I should know I was born in and spent my childhood in the Middle East. So far I tried the chicken shawarma, donair meat wrap, hummus and baklava. All delicious. I d highly recommend getting the made in Lebanon mango juice (nectar) from the fridge as it s soooo gooood. Now I will say if you re expecting the speed of fast food this isn t the place. It s similar but isn t a late night donair shop you d find in downtown Vancouver. A good shawarma isn t prepared in a few minutes like a burger or subway it takes time and effort. So come here if you got 10-15 minutes to wait or order on door dash and come when it s ready. For those it matters to i assume this place is halal. Last but not least this is a small family run business and the service is to match. The one man in the one man operation is so nice friendly generous and warm hearted I always like chatting with him in the 10-15 minutes until my food is ready. He will insist on not getting a tip, I always ignore that There s also a middle eastern grocery section in the store so if you want to cook that kind of food you can find ingredients here that you might not see in grocery stores. There are also snacks and sweets and ready to eat items like olives. I got the Turkish delight from here and it is absolutely amazing.

We would definitely patronize more often, but eat out very little since covid. The very friendly owner always treats us with that little extra courtesy. Great food at a great price, and made while you wait for eat-in , or take-out. He now has a little bit of stock on store shelves if you want some authentic middle eastern influence in your own cupboards. Tonight is the start of Ramadan, and they stayed to make sure I could bring dinner and desert home to my wife. The baklava is excellent! Really delicious food. Great to order and take on a picnic. The falafel is amazing with a fresh mint sauce, a little bit tangy from the pickled veg, with crisp lettuce and tomatoes. Everything is seasoned nicely and the flavors are well balanced. You can ask for more or less spicy. Its up to you. The chicken shawarma is super delicious too and has a very flavorful red sauce and its tender and perfect. Everything is warm and filling. The baklava is yummy and filled with walnuts and it has lots of cinnamon. Its hard to pick a favorite dish because everything Ive eaten here has been really good. That said, the falafel which the restaurant is named for is literally the best falafel I ever had! If I had 4 extra stomachs like a cow I would try to eat lots of them. But one falafel is enough to satisfy you, trust me. So good! Its comfort food that is healthy. Definitely choose this restaurant if you are wondering if its a nice place to go, because it is. Everyone there is really friendly and you wont be disappointed with the menu because all the food tastes home cooked and perfect!!!!!!!!!!! Vegetarian options: You can bring vegetarian friends here.

I was served by Maan who was very nice to deal with and i knew he appreciated my business, he even threw in a little added bonus to my purchase ;). Lets support this local business!!!

Friendly owner, very fast service. Minimalistic decor. Never judge a book by its cover. My donair was delicious!! It was piping hot, vegetables were fresh with the perfect amount of sauces. I ate it whilst driving-so bonus points for it being extremely easy to inhale one handed. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

We visited this outlet for the first time today. I enjoyed baklava and a falafel wrap. Excellent quality and a perfectly balanced taste. I recently had fresh baklava, which they prepare themselves. They also sell grocery from the Mediterranean and Middle East region. We will surely visit soon.

Owner extremely pleasant and stands by his product. I guess we went on a day where they were out of pitas and he put it on a wrap and used the panini press. He was apologetic and told us that he was not happy with what he was servicing us. To be honest all of us loved it. It may not have been the recipe or traditional food he wanted to serve but it was excellent. The owner gave us 2 baklava and free drinks, we we didn t ask for. When it came time to pay on the Interac machine he entered the price and skipped the tip feature then handed me the pin pad. I told him that I wanted to leave a tip and he refused. Only when I suggested a third time did he allow me to leave a tip. Anyone who is this proud of his food and restaurant and stands behind his place will instantly get an excellent review and will be happy to return to try the food the correct way. Even though it was very good as it was. The washrooms were very clean and well maintained. We will be back, happily.

Chicken shawarma is the best Ive ever had!

We stopped by to catch a quick meal. My husband was happy with his donair so I gave this 3 stars but I found it pretty tasteless. There was plenty of meat, but it was short on veggies. It needed more flavour. It was served with a very small serving of pickled turnip (to be shared!) which helped add some flavour to the meal. I would go with the shawarma which likely has more flavour.

Best Shawarma in BC! Tried OFalafel Maan for the first time with my family. The freshness and flavour top any Shawarma/Donair I have tried in the lower mainland. Both chicken and beef/lamb are excellent and good portions. Will be coming back often when I visit Nanaimo!

Not only was my shawarma just a tortilla with seasoned chicken and some feta in it the man who served me was SO RUDE! I rarely post but this man had a 5 minute personal call while a I waited, he refused to give me extra garlic sauce (the only sauce he puts on the chicken wrap aka shawama). I honestly could go on and on about the awful service and condescending employee (apparently Im too stupid to understand the tahini sauce I tried to buy as he repeatedly told me I shouldnt buy it because I didnt understand it). All to have the worst shawamra Ive ever had. I paid for a baklava which he didnt give me but at that point I just wanted to leave. Horrible service aside check out my shawamra pics if they load. Going here ruined my day the worker ( maybe the owner) was so rude. Worst restaurant experience if my life.

Good food, interesting experience, fair price. Dont come here if you are in a rush. Service has been very slow the few times Ive eaten here. It seemed like it was just the one person doing everything. But if you have time to sit and relax, theres a nice feeling. A true small business. Ask about the menu. Try the Turkish coffee. I can see and appreciate the careful attention to detail and simple, wholesome flavors. The only place in Nanaimo I have come back to (aside from The Vault).

The falafel was dry and cold in the sandwich and pretty flavorless, despite having a lot of sauce on it, which I couldnt understand and couldnt quite make out. Isnt it just supposed to be tahini anyways? I had my hopes up to find an awesome place somewhere on the island other than Campbell River but nothing has come close yet to Baba Ganouj in CR. If you have ever lived in Ontario or somewhere where there is a large population of Lebanese people you know what im talking about. Here, mediocrity rules, maybe because so many BCians just dont know the difference due to lack of exposure, and actually think its good food. The chicken shawarma wasnt much better, and definitely not what Id ever seen as chicken shawarma, drowned in a tomato-y sauce and rubbery. The meat is supposed to come off a spit, not the fridge and then microwaved in heavy sauce. Why would you not do it proper? I couldnt even taste the chicken which is usually the star of the sandwich. Too bad. Thank God theres Baba Ganouj. Cant wait to be able to go visit Campbell River again.

Donair wrap and shawarma were good and larger then expected, I would order again. The Greek salad was watery and was expecting to come with some dressing? So lucky I was already going home and had some in the fridge. The hummus looked very amazing but had no taste at all, very bland. Im going to add garlic and spices to make it better.

Please do not call yourself a middle eastern restaurant. The food was nowhere close. Ordered 2 pitas wraps, one chicken and one meat. They used pita wrap for the chicken which was precooked and diced with turmeric. So no, not shawarma meat. The meat wrap was very disappointing. They used some processed meat thats mentioned in another review by someone. N to make it worse, it was wrapped in tortilla! Please dont fool people like this. Had donuts from Superstore/walmart in their front display. Why would you do this.. the sides for the pita wraps were a quarter slice of tomato and 2 olives (Im not exaggerating). Will not go back.

Worse Donair ever Never again

I feel bad I had to order and run away! While the man took our order he was wearing his mask. When he went to the back to prepare our food his mask was half down his face, wearing no gloves (I didn t notice him wash them either) and he was microwaving our food. No thank you!!

It s the best middle eastern cuisine I ve ever had, and the prices are ridiculously low. The baba ganoush is out of this world good. My only complaint is the guy who takes your order, doesn t like to let people tip, so you ve gotta insist he puts the tip option in, or he won t do it. So sweet, but these guys should be charging more for their food, so he should at least allow people to tip!

Worst shawarma restaurant abd service I have ever seen. We went and asked to just give us a shawarma with just bread and chicken since my kid does not like any veges and sauces. They said no and they do not have half the things on their menu

Ive traveled a lot of places and eaten shwarmas everywhere but never have I had such a delicious, melt in your mouth amazing chicken shawarma:) I cant begin to describe how great it was, but Ill try. Perfectly seasoned chicken, delicious sauce with a hint of pickle when you bite. Literally melt in your mouth. Amazing! Now as for the Greek salad. Visually beautiful ( yes you eat with your eyes first) and as soon as you open the container it smells divine! Every ingredient is absolutely fresh and tastes phenomenal. Hands down the best food Ive had in.... a very very long time. Thank you its amazing.
