Carlos O'Bryan's Neighbourhood Pub in Nanaimo

I ordered the Bacon Cheddar Beef Burger, and it was absolutely delicious!!! Juicy, flavourful, and perfectly cooked. The fries were equally impressive, packed with so much flavour and a great complement to the burger. The staff were incredibly friendly and added to the experience by dressing to the theme, creating a fun, immersive atmosphere that made me feel like I was in an authentic Irish pub. Overall, it was a great experience, and I highly recommend for anyone looking for great food and a lively, welcoming environment!

The service and the food are great here. Often its a bit loud to have a conversation though.

We were there for happy hour and it was great. We really enjoyed the view of the harbour. Parking: Entrance to pub was difficult to spot, we drove past first time.

Our server, Mandy, was awesome. We told her we were in a bit of a hurry, as I was catching a float plane in one hour, and she knew how to make that happen, despite a large crowd of diners. My first time eating there, but it wont be the last.

Awesome birthday treat! We had a wonderful breakfast and drinks day! Our server Mandy was so friendly and we completely enjoyed our visit - we ll be back for sure!

I ordered the lamb burger and garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette. The patty was overcooked and the meat tasted as though it were going off. Absolutely nothing special about it. And the salad came with what I thought was the dressing on the side, but was actually just a ramekin of balsamic vinegar. Brutal. As for the drink, if you like a lager, avoid their house lager. Watery and a waste of money. Overall, really disappointing. With Miller s Pub closed, there isn t anywhere decent to grab a bite and drink anymore before getting on the ferry.

We were a big group of 19 year olds celebrating a birthday, we specifically called ahead to confirm we could have one minor(18). And were told it was no problem as long as we sat outside. We arrived and all ordered drinks and not until our drinks came did the manager come out and tell us we had to leave unless the 18 year old had a 25+ guardian. The manager was rude and seemed to be on a power trip . Refusing to listen to us to explain how we were told it was okay. She proceeded to kick us out. Not even comping our drinks or the birthday girls at the least. Our server was lovely and very apologetic, he is the only reason we would consider going back. She ruined our night, and birthday. Absolutely ridiculous.

Food was below that.. the dry cajun wings where just fried wing with al.ost zero dry rub.. asked the waitress and she said thats how they come and left.. soup gavey wife a horrible rash on her face.. do not go here. You will regret it

we were there as a group today and the food was not good.Quesadilla had no cheese . Roast beef was shaved off an old peace of beef. A slushy mess. The yorkshire pudding with gravy was very salty and unhealthy. I had the chicken burger with a very hard piece of chicken. Dry ribs came right out of a Cosco bag. At least add a little garnish. My mug of beer was cleared off the table still half full. Servers were pleasant but ignored our concerns.

Food was awesome. .theses are potatoes skins and lemon pepper wings loved them..they hosted my daughters Bachelorette party and were very attentive to us..very polite and friendly..kept our glasses full..thank you so much.

Stopped in at Carlos OBryans Neighbourhood Pub for drinks to end an evening out and had a really nice time. Professional waitstaff - the service was spot on. Definitely worth a stop in to have a drink or meal by the marina.

I had the Yorkies and roast beef. It was really good! Nice British menu and nice atmosphere.

Serving size of food is tiny for price you pay, dont show up hungry! But still a cool place.

This place has fantastic food! Omg if youre near this place then definitely dine there! Service was a little slow, but it was also super busy. The place is also on the water, so great location.

Service was amazing and food was delicious. They have a dog friendly patio over looking the water with heat lamps to keep you and your fuzzy baby warm as you enjoy a yummy meal with a nice view.

Super fun place, drinks were great & the staff was even better, my husband and I came here with friends for our bachelorette/ bachelor party and they were all so sweet and said such kind things. The food was awesome too, and the prices were way lower than we thought they d be. 10/10

Sucks. tried going there for my last dinner with my mom and they kicked us out after walking 45 minutes walk to get there. Told us we were to intoxicated when we had nothing. didn t give us the stuff that the took away from us so technically stole from us after raving about the food that we were trying to get to try.

Its that celebrate once a year day for me, my girl and me, had a wonderful afternoon meal. Every service person that we encountered was absolutely amazing. The food was fantastic, delicious . myself and my hubby went to have lunch and decided to try a new place other than our usual restaurant. When we walked in we were greeted and brought menus by a server with someone they were training. We got our drinks and placed our appetizer order with the server and stated we wanted to start with apples and order a main course. 30 minutes later we got our apples and finished them and waited another 30 minutes till our server checked in with us and asked us if we ordered our main We said No no one took our order someone just came and took the menus and she kind of just laughed about it rudely like it was my fault we did get our order taken. She spent more time talking with the larger tables an totally forgot about us. She asked us if we still wanted to order but we said no due to the sheer rudeness of the waitress making it no big deal after waiting an hour. Ive been a server my entire life and never had such a bad experience with no apology from the waitress and then we asked for the bill and we were brought it it was the wrong bill. We left still hungry and annoyed and wont be returning to this establishment due to the poor service. A trainer needs to be on top of everything not forgetting customers orders or forgetting to attend to the tables for over an hour when they only had 2 other tables in site. Very disappointed as I had high hopes from going to Kelly Obryans frequently in the city we lived in before.

This place is a great place to watch your sports games and have adult time

We were late and had to get to the ferry quickly. The staff quickly packaged up our food and got us on our ferry on time. They were extremely nice and accommodating. The food is great as well.

My wife had intolerance to spicy food and we asked not to have any coatings of spices and they still didnt do as we asked which spoiled the evening out and which made my wife ill very disappointed. Dietary restrictions: Kn pipers 3 others very poorly.

Ive been into Carlos OBriens before and the place was always pretty decent. The beer is cold. The wings are good. The burgers are acceptable. Its kind of what youd expect of a pub. The other day, however, I called in and ordered a schnitzel plate to go as I was hungry late and didnt have a whole lot of options. I was excited because coming from an Austrian family, schnitzel was always standard fare at Christmas, Easter, and other family gatherings so I had high expectations. Unfortunately, when I arrived home and opened my container, I beheld the tiniest, driest, most overcooked piece of schnitzel Ive ever laid eyes on in my life. It was so hard and tough that it broke the wooden fork and knife they gave me and even with the mushroom gravy it was served with, which by the way was absolutely delicious, it was still barely edible. The 6 string beans and two pieces of roasted red pepper it was served with were also cooked to a mushy consistency. Overall, I could hardly believe they let that leave the kitchen. It was just bad. I hope this was just a one off because if this is the new standard for this place, I wont be going back.

They make the best ponchos/ponchos extreme fries in all Nanaimo in my opinion. We also had the Irish Yorkies and McCracken Rolls, oh my goodness! These were so so delicious. My son, his wife and I went for dinner on Friday evening August 2nd. Nice atmosphere, right on the water, fast service, great place and the food was absolutely delicious. My compliments to their chef and the owners.

Great location overlooking the marina/ocean but, unfortunately, quite a few flaws. The steak that I paid quite a bit for I had to re-order 2 times because they didn t cook it right and when I finally got it back, it was so bland and uninspired. The only saving grace being the pacho s, right? No, those too were also cold and had to be sent back. I ve had a couple average/bad lunches or dinners here unfortunately it wasn t an isolated incident. I hate sending back food and am usually reluctant but I had to speak up on this occasion. The staff here are usually pretty good, very welcoming and happy. Oh, and don t trust the website, the website states that there is a kids menu, there isn t. And if you have kids, you re sequestered into a Covid-19 looking tent. And don t even get me started on bingo night Kid-friendliness: Very limited

Excellent pub! Their signature dish, pachos (potato nachos) is fantastic. The staff and the owner are friendly and great to deal with on both professional level and as a customer. Definitely a place to be if you want to celebrate St. Pats. 5/5, would recommend. Parking: Park between the green lines and you re golden.

Happy hour chicken taco salad was pretty good, big portion for $16. The margaritas werent that good, very heavy on the lime juice and ice wasnt blended well. Has a nice patio on the water

We received ridiculous service. My friends and I wanted to sit inside near the air conditioner, but the girl at the entrance refused because the place inside was only for adults (by the way, one of them was a minor). Afterwards, this girl asked how old my other friend was and only then they offered us to sit on the street. After we sat down at the table, they immediately checked our ID (we didn t even have a menu by that time). We did not order alcohol and did not plan to. It was humiliating and insulting

Had the crab n steak, it wasnt good but its not anyones fault, not the waitress who was excellent, not the cooks either. The crab shells were brown, the inside had little to no crab meat. It was dry but thats on the crab company. For 45.00 it was not appropriate. So i complained and i called the owner or the GM. I was treated like GOLD. She listened, she understood, she was professional and fair. My wife and a I have been going to this pub for 8 yrs now religiously. Now i will be even more loyal because she took care of me and she was very quick about it. I respect that so much and so im back to being a consistent customer, THANKU FOR MAKING IT RIGHT!!

Everything was fantastic. Food, service, view, beer. I had the Pork Schnitzel, it was cooked perfectly! Even though the place was packed the server was friendly and efficient and we didnt wait long for food. I will be back!

We stopped by while waiting for our ferry, and were served quickly to accommodate for our short time window. The food was good pub food, and not a ripoff (unlike everything immediately by the ferry terminal). Service was very friendly and they catered to our allergy requirements with diligence. If youre waiting for a ferry and you have an hour to spare, this is your place!

Parking is a mess, the overflow parking Is like 5 spots. I had to park on the main road a block down from the pub. Drinks are good, service is decent. Food is quite expensive for what you get. I ordered the chipotle chicken burger and the pathetic little chicken breast, if you could call it that, barely covered half the bun. Definitely wont be ordering that again. Parking: not enough parking for how busy they get.

Unfortunately we found out today that there is no longer a vegan meal. Considering how many other places offer vegans meals I was shocked. We will not be going there again even though it s so close to our house. Even in Ireland you get vegan meals. Service

It may be right on the water, but dont go here for seafood. Not much of that on the menu but what was there was really good and huge portions.

The food is great. The atmosphere is usually very noisy and chaotic. Its a bar too afterall. But if you want peace and quiet you wont find it there.

Food is good. Service is awesome! I cant complain. Whenever I visit this pub it is always a good a time. Parking: There is free dedicated customer parking - occasionally there is an additional free overflow parking lot (gate not always open). Otherwise there is free public street parking during peak hours. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a cement ramp that makes the main floor and outdoor seating accessible. There is no accessible way to get to the upper level of the restaurant. Accessible bathrooms are on the main floor just after the restaurant entrance.

Very excited to see there was a Carlos in Nanaimo we are faithful Kelly O fans. This location is in a very pretty area right on the water. Highly recommend for a fun lunch or a great place to go for drinks. Hookers and blow is my favourite with pachos and chicken lips. TRY IT you wont be disappointed. Kelly O Brians has been a staple since 1994 (guildford location sadly gone now)

Went for dinner on Wednesday and they had SINGO! He was awesome and his energy was so contagious. Highly recommend SINGO! Food and drinks were great.

Never got to try the food, sat with an empty drink for 20+ minutes waiting patiently to be asked if we wanted another round and place our food order and eventually just flagged down a staff member to get the bill and went to the pub next door. Reviews are always subjective of course, but look at my review history, leaving a negative review is rare for me. Im guessing we werent the only table waiting around (April 2, we got there just after 4 for happy hour and left just before 5)

A wonderful place to get great food, and the only place in town that I know where you can get your meal for free on your birthday. Our favorite appies are the McCracken rolls, so yummy!! Always my favourite place to get a birthday meal as well!!! Great place to take a birthday girl, stroganoff, tuna stack, McCracken Rolls of course, and rounded up the meal with Turtle Cheesecake, so delicious!!! Mandy really took care of us.

Other than drive-thru, Carlos was the only thing open. Ordered a few appies during their appy-hour and really stumped as to why i was charged an extra +$10 on my total bill. Im not sure how it was all calculated (i wasnt given a receipt, and I forgot to ask). The food... never order the poutine (to go)!! I ate it pretty much right away, and it almost tasted like i was eating salty, soggy mini-waffles with 2 big clumps of cheese . Ive been told BK has the worst poutine, but THIS is definitely a contender for last place. We did enjoy the chicken lips .

most people would hope for GOOD quality and service when going out and spending your hard earned money. Carlos O Bryan s Nanaimo was AMAZING and nailed it out of the ball park! The food was on point and the service was second to none. Prime rib w/ mushroom cream soup appetizer was hot and perfectly seasoned. The steak for the main course was cooked to the requested doneness. Snow crab was sweet and delicate. Our waitress made sure all of our dinning needs were met. We can t wait to bring our friends to our next visit.

The 10oz Ny strip steak came looking like a fast fry (cooked to medium not medium rare) with no seasoning and undercooked lattice fries. The waitress took my plate as I was eating my last chicken wing and when I told her I still needed my plate she nodded and walked off with it leaving us with no napkins or side plates. Paid over $100 and had to leave a very small tip which had me feeling like the @sshole. Would only recommend for the drinks and atmosphere not the service or food.

A little on the pricey side but good-sized portions. My husband had a beef dip with fries which was very good. I had Panchos Excellent. Not much of a selection of Irish food, its just mainly a pub menu same as anywhere else. Service was great very pleasant waitress. The atmosphere is a bit subpar. Its supposed to be an Irish pub but there wasnt much of anything Irish about it. Maybe a bit of Irish music would help. We went on a Thursday night it was a bit dead, maybe theres more going on at the weekends.

Ive heard of Carlos OBryans from friends but was unable to stop in before. Stopped in for lunch on Saturday afternoon and had an excellent roast beef on a bun. Ill be back next time Im in Nanaimo, which is going to be soon. I pass through Nanaimo on my way up island from Sooke, but, now I have a great reason to stop in. There are many good things that have been recommended to me by friends, C OBS menu is definitely one. Parking: Was able to park right up front near the entrance.

We stopped in for lunch. I havent been back since the mid 90s incarnation when it was called Muddy Waters, which I loved at the time. Its branded now as an Irish pub. I had the chicken lips, was very good .. my wife had calamari and loved it. The servers are amazing, very accomadating and friendly. It wasnt too busy when we were there. 10/10 would recommend, and would return. Limited parking, it was fine for lunch but if this is anywhere as popular night spot like it used to be I can see parking being a bit of a problem in the evening.

Called around 1pm yesterday to make a reservation for a birthday dinner with 3 friends, woman on the phone said I wasnt going to need one as its slow right now and just to come in. Did not even ask what time we wanted a table. Showed up to a full house and no available tables. Had to mad scramble to find somewhere else last minute. Very unfortunate :(

It all started in Kelowna for me. I love that there is a Carlos in Nanaimo, love that its right on the water. Beautiful views and great place to go to for any evening or day of the week!!

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The service was subpar, with intentionally delayed orders that left me frustrated and dissatisfied. The staff s behavior was unprofessional, making the overall dining experience unpleasant. We had a ferry to catch and the waitress delayed to bring our order on purpose.They had racist behavior and make fun of my accent.I ve seen similar issues at these restaurant reviews.

My visit to Carlos obryans was extremely disappointing. The staff exhibited very bad behavior, and to make matters worse, our orders were intentionally delayed. I wouldn t recommend this place based on the poor service and unprofessional conduct.

Best pub in Nanaimo

Always a blast, always great service. However, we went here for a staff Christmas party in Dec 2023 and had Gabriel as our server and MY GOD that man deserves the world. I dont think Ive ever had a better server. There were 20-25 of us, and I dont think a single person waited for a drink, ever had an empty glass, or was ever left hanging needing something. He was ON IT! Not to mention he decorated for our party and had music for us! All around probably the best restaurant experience Ive had. 10/10 recommend! Thanks Carlos management and Gabriel!

Went to Carlos OBryans on Saturday night and the place was hopping! Food was great and the location is fantastic. My only complaint was the fact that we were seated at the bottom of the stairs and we felt like we were in the way. Kept getting bumped. But the service was great and all the staff were very friendly. Looking forward to going back in the summer. Be aware of the parking, red lines =s no parking
