Cactus Club Cafe in Nanaimo

Had the pleasure of dining in for late lunch/early dinner and it was such a great atmosphere and the food was so delicious. I had the chargrilled steak and my husband had the creole chicken, we shared the avocado dip to start. All around 10/10 and we will definitely we back. Our server was amazing and very attentive. There is a very nice, cozy outdoor seating area which we will try next time!

Exceptional service, delicious food and beautiful atmosphere! A perfect stop when near Nanaimo! I recommend the ravioli, Strawberry Cheesecake and yam fries, though everything is a great option! Overall an amazing restaurant! Thank you Cactus Club Cafe Nanaimo!

Went there last evening for my husband s company s Christmas dinner, and the food was superb!. However, the service we received was top notch! Dylan was fantastic taking care of us, along with everyone in his section. He went above and beyond. Cactus Club is truly fortunate to have you.

Great place but I miss the cute, friendly waitress who used to work there. I think her name was Olivia. She did a fantastic job and I hope she can come back soon

Came in for my Girlfriends birthday and we were served by Jessie-Ann. She was absolutely amazing to us and made us feel very welcome. Enjoyed our drinks and meal plus the cheese cake on the house. Looking fwd to our next visit.

Over priced, mediocre service.

I recently visited the local Cactus Club on Sunday and had the pleasure of being served by Joy, who was exceptionally sweet and attentive. She has consistently provided excellent service on multiple visits, and I wanted to express my appreciation for her outstanding work. The wine and food were, as always, delicious. Kudos to the entire Cactus Club team for a fantastic dining experience!

Came here for a staff dinner to celebrate another year of success, and to have the owner treat us for a Christmas dinner. Service was on par, the food was delicious, and my Old Fashioned was tasty. Everyone had a good time.

Staff and food were excellent, we took visitors from overseas who said their meal was the best of meals they had eaten on the island.

The food was great, but the service was a 10! Our server was knowledgeable, helpful and very personable. She was especially patient with the two young uns we had with us. Everyone commented on her. We ve never had bad service there, but this was head and shoulders above. I asked the hostess to tell the manager how exceptional she was. I didn t get her name sadly. Vegetarian options: I m vegan and the server was very helpful.

Some family and I gathered here for lunch on Thanksgiving Day. Azra was so friendly to us, and didnt rush us out when we were finished. We all enjoyed our meals. I have Celiac disease and had a quite a few options (including fries!). We had a really great time! Dietary restrictions: I have Celiac disease, and this restaurant has a dedicated gluten-free fryer, and a good portion of their menu is gluten-smart. I had a Cajun Chicken Cheddar Sandwich on a gluten-free bun. This was SO tasty.

When my cousins wanted to take me out for my birthday lunch I let them choose the place & I was glad they chose so well with Cactus Club. It had been decades since I dined there since moving closer to town, but I did recall how great the acoustics were & spacious the seating was, especially since my cousin has a hard time hearing above the restaurant din. This time I was also delighted by the staff as soon as I stepped in the door & then the server was such a super enjoyable character. One would think think they had shares in the restaurant the way they interacted with us. And, as a receiver of Best Waitress Award going way back, I know great service! I also make a habit of trying vegie burgers everywhere I dine out, because every eatery has their own recipe & this one was a hit. Great food, family & friendly atmosphere made it a great birthday celebration for me this year. Next time it will be my cousins birthdays we can celebrate.

Good food and service, but we wont be going back until they do something about the entry way. Every time we go, were faced with a a density of humanity at the front entry way that would make any fire Marshall shudder. People waiting for tables sitting in the seats. A gaggle of uber eats deliver drivers huddling around the front kiosks staring at their phones and not paying attention. You line up single file and try and think of ways to catch the attention of a hostess. Most of the time the hostesses seem absolutely shell shocked. As you stand in line waiting for your turn to approach the hostess, you are pushed out of the way by people who have reservations, have been told their table is ready, an uber.eats zombie, or some customer picking up a to go order who feel they dont have to wait for anybody. If I want to be jostled like cattle at beef sale, Ill just join roller derby instead.

I had the penni bologonese and is was so salty and overseasoned it was one of the worst pasta dishes Ive had, same with the spaghetti that another person ordered at our table. The size of ravioli dish was ridiculous for the amount it costs. The one item that was good was the fenie burger. Our waitress disappeared after the meal showed up so couldnt really let her know. The girls at the front hostess table were unwelcoming for being the first people to greet you and the last ones you see as you leave. Would I go back ?? No way , there are far better restaurants in Nanaimo than this one.

Every-time for last 4 time ..they have been making same mistakes with my orders. As in idk if its server issue or the chef issue. Asking for something not to be added on dish and keep adding that. And had to wait Every time. Thats frustrating as in they cant take simple instructions every time. .. I love the food ..its just they made me wait 3-4 times because they keep not following instructions for my food.

Cactus food never disappoints but tonight the service was above and beyond!!! Our server, Joy H, was phenomenal!! She was totally on point in knowing what we needed and when. We were just doing appy s and she timed them perfectly. She was very attentive but not intrusive and gave us the space we needed but never left us long enough that we felt we were ignored. Honestly she could teach all servers in this kind of care. Perfect service in my opinion!!! Great job Joy!!

I have always enjoyed my visits to the Nanaimo Cactus Club, but last Thursday night on the patio was different because of the male server. I wish I had requested a different server, as everything else was perfect, as usual.

You can always count on Cactus Club anywhere you go and this one was no exception! Dylan our server made our night and is amazing at what he does! We will be back!

Their hosts and servers were so rude. When you walk in, you aren t greeted kindly. They wait for you to approach them, and when you do they look you up and down like THE AUDACITY, you show up at my place of work like it s a privilege to be in their presence. Still not a word, until you tell them you d like a table. Pretty laughable. Drinks were good! But we left after 2 since it was $30 for TWO drinks. Not worth it. You re working at a chain restaurant. Stay humble ladies.

The Cactus Club is my favorite go-to restaurant! The vibrant, modern atmosphere is perfect for any occasion. The menu is diverse, and every dish is fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive, always making great recommendations. It can get a bit noisy during peak times, but it adds to the lively ambiance. Highly recommend!

A friend and I dropped in for dinner. I had the Szechuan Lettuce Wraps with chicken and my friend had the Thai Green Curry (which they accommodated her by adding tofu as the protein option). The lettuce wraps were so delicious, perfect spice with additional spicy sauces on the side. There was so much on the platter, I had enough for another meal at home. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. My only comment on atmosphere is that is was very loud; but that is a preference. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Vegetarian options: Many vegetarian options to choose from.

Very few choices for GF food. There are never dessert choices and minimal choices for other courses, of those there are, often ingredients need to be removed to make the suggested items GF

Nothing bad to say. Have been coming here since 2004. Food is bang on every time so far. Love the atmosphere. Havent had bad service yet.

The absolute worst meal I ve ever had and for the price we spent I could have eaten better at McDonald s for less and fed my extended family for a month. My wife and I went out for our 17th anniversary. When we arrived it was quite busy and took 15 minutes to seat us even after we had a reservation. Our waitress was busy talking more to her coworkers than serving us or checking in on our table. It took 15 minutes to have our server ask what we d like to drink. Then when we ordered, my wife s drink didn t come for another 10 minutes after the fact. We should have known then to walk out. My wife s an optimist though and said hey it s our anniversary, let s just have a nice meal. So we decided to start with two appetizers. We ordered schezchuan chicken lettuce wraps and calamari. Then we decided to look at the menu for our meal while we waited for our apples. It took 20 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. So by this point we had been at the restaurant for one hour. We had one drink, just for our appetizers and our waitress had been to our table once. The calamari was $20 and there was maybe a handful. We continued to look for our waitress hoping to order our food so it would come when we finished our appies, not to mention, we didn t have a drink refill. Finally she arrived to clear our plates and asked how it was. We said we d like to order our meals. She replied with oh ya of course. Again, should have known better and walked out. I ordered the Millionaire Steak and asked for the 12 oz and my wife got the Cajun Chicken Burger. Well let me tell you, it s not worth the money. My medium rare steak, which was an 8oz and not the 12 I asked for, was over cooked, tasted burnt on top and over priced at $57. When we questioned the 8 oz steak, the server admitted she made a mistake and said she could get another made. At this point we are going on an hour and 45 minutes. I responded with forget it, it s too late for that. I asked for salt given the steak had no taste and was given a salt shaker that was rock solid in one clump that had been sitting there for I m sure ages. Sorry, getting back to the steak dinner - it had zero flavor other than the burnt taste, and it was served with a whole five over cooked fishy tasting prawns and a small scoop of mashed potatoes. Now that the waitress had screwed up, she really avoided our table. Never once did our waitress ask us how our meal was. My wife s chicken burger was like the size of a piece of paper. So if you re not looking for much of a burger, or the size of a McDonalds cheeseburger for quadruple the price, this is your place!!! The place is way overpriced portions are pathetic especially for the ridiculous prices they come with. It s to bad the keg is gone could have eaten so much better for so much less and had a great meal.

Everything was awesome there, just seemed very busy at the time and like they were a little bit understaffed with the servers, but they handled it great and was a very nice place.

My sister and I went out on a sister date on a Friday night. We sat on the gorgeous patio. The service staff was so attentive and delightful. They made every attempt to try to make sure that the sun wasnt in my sisters face. The food was delicious! Especially the peanut butter bar. Do yourself a favor and spring for dessert.

I personthink its over priced, pulled in for lunch had chicken wings, 3 small raviolis and a small salad.....the chicken wing are small, ravioli tasted good but portion was to small...had water

Our waitress was attentive right from the get-go. We were served beautiful drinks and mine was the Cadillac martini my friend has severe allergies and they took it extremely seriously and two managers came with our food and made sure we were safe We made substitutions and had a noodle bowl salad, and the ceviche, which was outstanding I just can t get over the service and the food quality and the atmosphere thanks, cactus club! What a great staff

Heads up to the disabled and gender nonconforming communities that this location is currently using exclusionary washroom practices: the accessible washroom is literally locked with a sign directing you to management. The people who need it are forced to go back out and ask for it, rather than being provided automatically the same as everyone else - as required by law. Presumably this is meant as a measure to prevent misuse but the problem is, this approach leaves our ability to use the washroom up to someone elses social perception of our ability, gender, and class, etc. Cactus Club and club type dining in general is just not made for me (disabled and gender creative) I guess. Or anyone with barriers in life. This type of restaurant feels status based, superficial, and incredibly exclusionary. The food is fine and the servers are pros - its not their fault, but its designed as a rich people space and is accordingly: 1. expensive af for the serving sizes and 2. will exclude anyone whose needs arent convenient.

Great place to meet up with friends. The inside eating area is huge with a large fireplace. The outside patio area is smaller but great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

We visit this restaurant regularly for takeaway - food and service are always good. Recently there was a snafu with an order and the staff did everything to make it right. Our interactions with CC guest experience have been stellar - they went above and beyond as they made what could have been a negative visit into a truly positive one. Food is delicious, service was great, atmosphere is a 3 star because they turned down the lights and the music up. You cant be a restaurant and a night club.

My fiancé Got the prawn trio and I got the blackened creole chicken. Unfortunately the prawn trio was slightly disappointing the inside of the raviolis tasted bland however the sauce and prawns were great. On the other hand the blackened creole chicken I cannot recommend enough perfectly cooked and seasoned will definitely be getting it again.

Everything we ordered tasted amazing! Would surely recommend a visit.. but it is a little expensive.

Updated: Thank you to Cactus Club Nanaimo, for working with us to provide a safe lunch for our child with egg, tree nuts, sesame anaphylactic allergies and celiac disease, so that he can feel included in family events. Previously, we have been assisted many times by Kaitlynn, who has been fantastic in ensuring that our child s meal is safe. For Mother s Day we had a different staff member assisting us, I forgot to grab her name, but she was extremely thoughtful and helpful. There was a communication issue that required a conversation with Eldon the General Manager. Eldon was fantastic, caring and ensured that the communication ran smoothly between us, the server and the kitchen staff. We appreciate how much effort and care allergies and special dietary needs require, so we are grateful when we find a team that is trying to ensure a great dining experience for all. We appreciate that they have a protocol set up for customers with allergies and that they have access to the information on their ingredients and products. Thank you again!! I got the crab cake frites, and wow, it was amazing. The truffle fries were very well seasoned and the sauce was great!

Five of us went for a late lunch at 1:30 pm may 20 (today). As we walked in we noticed there were many empty tables out on the patio and were thrilled because it was a nice day and we d prefer to sit outside. The hostess said they couldn t sit a party of five on the patio. Policy .. we were surprised. We said we could certainly bring up another chair. They said no. And then the hostess lied!! She said I ve only got a table for two out there. We left and looked in the patio again. Still lots of room. My daughter went back in and mentioned this. Of course now the hostess realized we knew she lied they found the room. We left anyways. Is cactus club getting too big for their britches? We re locals. Won t be going back.

Happy to see tuna on the menu, but it really should be Ocean Wise ALBACORE tuna caught by Canadian fishermen in Canadian waters instead of Ahi.

Food is great. However trying to order for pickup is super inconvenient. Not able to call in which means only online ordering in which you have to have an account and theres no option to use a gift card either during an online purchase which wouldnt be an issue if you had the option to pay upon pickup

Last night we went to cactus club in Nanaimo to celebrate my daughters first year University completion. I ordered the rainforest salad which I ve eaten there. Many many times I was deeply disappointed. There were two tomatoes cut up inside cherry size. There were four pieces of pepper cut up the Respess greens with half an egg on top for almonds and a quarter of an avocado maybe a half for $25 including the chicken breast which was small .this quality as far superior than I had previously experienced. My husband ordered chicken wings for an appetizer that look like chicken nuggets. They were so tiny had very little meat on them. If any at all on a few of them the price of those I don t recall, but food is getting more expensive and the quality needs to be there if I m going to continue to Frequent these places. The main courses of the other people were fine Salmon and a pasta dish. My husband s fillet steak with broccoli and prawns was gone in about a couple of minutes not much there. We won t be rushing back.

Good atmosphere, we had the server Ashley and she was seriously the best! She not only remembered all of our (party of 5s) orders but she was really frequent in checking in on us and making sure that we were satisfied! This was my first time here and my first time having the dish- Thai coconut green curry and it was, I promise you, so delicious! I was full and didnt want to stop eating it! Will be coming here again for sure!

The service and atmosphere was so great and friendly. Unfortunately I had a steak that was undercooked and incredibly small. Im a carnivore and it was as big as a starbucks lid. I will go again to hopefully have a better experience.

Food was good however I ordered medium rare steak and got well done. My friend ordered rare and got medium rare steak. The food was decent, just wish steaks were cooked properly. And for anyone going for happy hour, the belini is amazing! Drinks are great. Carbonated or alcoholic

I can always count on having an outstanding experience at Cactus Club. You can tell that the food and service are set at a very specific standard. My usual go tos are the Szechuan Lettuce Wraps, one of the steak dishes and ending with the Key Lime Pie. I have tried a lot of other dishes on the menu - all top notch. You are always treated like the most important table from when you are seated to when you are leaving

Try out the salmon entree. You will go back for more and there 50% off bottles of wine on Wednesdays

Find the staff seem burned out and are not giving the quality of service their training tells them to. This seems like a management issue. Half the food and drinks are bland but thats every cactus club, the other half are great, but not quite great enough for the price. I say go to a chain instead where you will get the service for the cost of your food

Consistently good food with great service and a very nice lounge. It may cost a little more than other restaurants, but worth it.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Food was excellent and delivered an experience that seemed like it should have cost more money than it did. Very happy will be back again soon.

We always love coming to this place whenever we are in town. Service is always good. Drinks and food are tasty and fast. Only detail is that the outside of this location is pretty dark. We were not sure if it was opened or closed until we walked in. We recommend it.

We took my husbands mom for her 83rd birthday dinner tonight to her favorite place and it was fantastic!!! The hostesses were friendly, courteous. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation and they did their best to get us in as soon as was possible, that was appreciated. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive. Dinner was absolutely delicious. It was beautiful, very hot, which is a big plus in moms eyes!!!, Our appies the same!!! The restaurant was full and busy. Its no wonder!!! It was a lovely birthday dinner for mom!!! Thank you! PS, this is the 3rd year weve done this for moms birthday. See you next year!!!!! Our favorite is the Dijon salmon! Parking: Theres only one handicapped parking spot.

Cactus Club does a good job training servers - all are friendly and knowledgeable. Food is higher quality than many of the local options. Youngish crowd though. Insider tip: take advantage of the happy hour. Parking: Strip mall with parking usually available.

My partner and I had dinner at Cactus Club for our anniversary. We had an excellent experience. The host was friendly and greeted us as soon as we arrived. The person who showed us to our seat asked about our anniversary, which was nice. The server was friendly and helpful. We had Rigatoni Bolognese and the Poke Tuna Bowl to eat, and they were both delicious. We had the Pearl and Little Pearl to drink, and they were both good. We had an excellent experience at Cactus Club, thank you.

We came back! With a friend too! We ordered, feenie burger, fish tacos and a cheddar bacon burger the food, just like last time, was absolutely amazing. It was another tasteful adventure. Crispy yam fries at their best. This is officially our stop when going to or from Nanaimo now. Parking: Tight stalls and limited.

A great meal at CCC, made even better by great attention to detail from Dani, our server. Guests from the UK were equally impressed with our local go-to choice of restaurant. Make sure when guests make online reservations that they get the online confirmation from you we tried twice to book online and got no confirmation from you we had to go into the restaurant to ensure we had a reservation. Other than that terrific! Our dinner was delicious!

Cactus club always great food great service great times and an awesome outside deck

Very busy restaurant with lot of noise. Not recommend it if you want some privacy. Food was good but not something wow. We found moldy orange in our drink and we didnt pay for this drink, but shouldnt happen in a restaurant like this. We were little bit disappointed .

There was a problem with someone taking our reservation who was not us. The staff worked quickly to find a solution and made sure we were taken care of. The food was great and will be going back again!

Ive ordered the med bowl many times before, but decided to get it as take out this time, and the portion was significantly less than usual, and they left out the olives and yogurt. Im thinking this is probably because I didnt leave a tip online when I paid as I usually do it in person once I get my food. Extremely dissatisfied and will not be back.

Great service and good food

My wife and were expecting a totally different experience. We found the staff with no enthusiasm and not very friendly. Almost robotic. The meal presentation was a joke, especially my wifes quesadilla. Which I will post a picture. At least it gave us a good laugh. I had the green curry with chicken. It had about half a chicken fingers worth of meat. Just getting tired of feeling I was ripped off. I am a generous tipper but I had to tell the bartender why I was only giving him $10.00. The service was pretty bad. It looked and showed that nobody cared.

Food was excellent, service was prompt and attentive! Prices are more than fair. Overall a great dinner with no complaints from our picky group of 6! Will go back again for sure!

Amazing steak, wish I could have seen it though . Had to use a flashlight to read menu. Still worth it.

Excellent service, extremely friendly staff. We were greeted at the door within seconds and then seated early for our reservation free dessert for the birthday girls. It couldn t have been better. Vegetarian options: Fantastic delicious options. Kid-friendliness: Very friendly

You need to up your gf dessert game. Very disappointed that I was the only one at the table without Dietary restrictions: Very gf accommodating for main however lacking dessert options

We always have attentive service and the food is always exactly as we have had it in the past -- delicious and made exactly the same, as it should be. Great choices especially for those of us who are plant-based / vegan. Vegetarian options: We love that there are vegan options too! And people eat them because they are DELICIOUS, not always because they are vegan. Great choices.

I came for dinner tonight after a long day at work, and for the first time after many visits I had an issue that left me less than satisfied. I told my server (Alexa), who was absolutely great, of my issue and next thing I know a manager (Maddie), was at my table and resolved the issue to my complete satisfaction. I will continue to come to Cactus Club as its a great restaurant with good food, and excellent staff that care about your experience.

The standard.

Bartender only cared about the single dudes sitting at her bar, whole place felt clicky/preppy I love this industry and have worked in it for a decade now & didnt appreciate the service, usually a really good tipper BUT NOT TONIGHT lol will only be back for happy hour food (maybe) and will definitely not sit at the bar if only one chick on shift thats giving most attention to the single dudes

Service was 11/10 Jess was the greatest server of all time. I went to celebrate an anniversary with my significant other and Jess made it an experience to be remembered!

I could say the staff were very friendly. We come in, we ask for a booth, we waited 15 minutes and when we walk to the booth, and one of the managers take that booth and the waitress lock shocked didnt know what to on spot. We took a table but i could see she host was very uncomfortable, But they had the manager behind us and with computer on Sunday November 12th and he was just sitting there and just laughing and to chat with a staff. I found that very up professional. The food was good. The staff was good, but the manager really not used table for social or work on busy time of day and taking something that was for the customer.

Great waitress, great drinks but unfortunately my Cajun Chicken dinner was a bit dry and overcooked and the asparagus was woody and the food was not very hot.

Dani was absolutely delightful. Helpful, informative and kind. Made the experience great. Good employees are worth their weight in gold!

Whole place is dark and uninviting and loud. Brought my wife here and was unable to fit in the booths designed for teenagers, and the table we got moved to had horribly uncomfortable chairs that dig into your legs on the outside edge. Pan fried vegetables were dry and woody.
