This place is absolutely amazing. Very friendly staff and the halibut is delicious! At lunch time the also have 10$ boxes. I keep meaning to try the chicken but I always end up getting fish. Also the gravy is super good and the homemade tartar sauce is so tasty. I will support the heck out of these guys. They are trying to keep good prices and great portions and wicked good food. I hope more people stop in and try this hidden gem. YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS PLACE!!!!!!

We got the seafood platter, it was very greasy as the fat leaked through the takeout container and damaged our clothes.

We saw this place on the way to Horseshoe Bay in Nanaimo. Small building, drive through. We tried it, but sat inside the very small dining area, with 3 tables and a counter with stools. I gotta tell you, we were not in the least disappointed. We both had fish and chips. Chips in my opinion were hand cut, the fish was light in the batter and were very good! We both could not eat all our fries. I would for sure go again.

Eat here!!! If you have a yearning for fish and chips, or chicken and mushy peas this is your destination! Family owned and operated. Fantastic food! We are never hungry after. Actually, we seldom finish! Check it out. And try the house tartar sauce! To die for.

Best fish and chips Ive had in town, really delicious! The homemade tartar sauce is worth the extra expense. Take it from someone whos had his fair share of fish and chips in England, this is like a taste of home. I hear they do chicken as well but Im too busy eating all the halibut.

I came to visit Nanaimo and I was craving some fish and chips! After some google searches I came across Chick to Sea Express and decided to give it a try. I was very happy with the service and the food was amazing! The fish was crispy but also flakey and the homemade tartar sauce is a must get! We asked for some lemons and they were happy to provide some as well. Overall amazing experience and would definitely recommend!

Great food! Always throws in an extra chicken strip or a half piece of fish with your food. Haven t had a bad experience here yet. A shame it s in the location it is, should be better off in harewood or the north end.

Can t tell you about the food as we were told at 8:10pm we can t sit in the dining room as they closed it at 8:30pm 30 min before closing. So basically told us we have to take out even though cleaning our table maybe would have taken 2-3min. Never met a restaurant that was allergic to a family of 5 paying customers. Owner may want to have a word with their staff turning away revenue. Visited july1024

After hearing many great reviews about this place we got some halibut fish and chips to go. While my first piece was a little tough on the thin parts it still tasted ok however my second piece tasted horrible, not only could I not eat that piece but it ruined the entire meal. Of all the times Ive eaten halibut fish and chips Ive never had it fishy. Until today I didnt even know it was possible with halibut. Im sure the reviews on this place are true and that we had the unlucky one off order, but even if that is the case it still shouldnt have tasted like they got it out of the chum bucket.

We did take away. The food was hot, fresh and delicious. The Halibut was moist and the portions were large. Lots of fries and the tarter sauce was excellent. Everything was obviously cooked as we waited. We will be ordering from there again.

I was craving some fried chicken so I gave this place a shot. The interior is nice and clean, which I was worried about given that the neighbourhood around there is getting worse by the day. I ordered a four piece chicken meal, which was just chicken, fries, and a drink. Was expecting coleslaw or a bun or something for the price, but whatever. With a side of gravy it came to 18$. The chicken wasnt greasy, but it also wasnt anything special in terms of flavour. Id certainly put it ahead of something like 7-11 chicken, but they really need some seasonings in there other than salt. The fries were delicious at least, nice and crunchy, and the gravy was properly thick with tons of flavour. I doubt Ill do the chicken again, but Ill definitely be coming back for those fries. 3.5/5 Stars. Could do worse for lunch, but for the price I expected a bit better chicken. Maybe Ill give their seafood a go next time.

We have only ordered take out so far but the food is amazing. The fish and chips always arrive hot with crispy coating and fries that arent soggy. Weve had the halibut and the cod and love them both. The fish is tender and moist and the portion size is generous. Everyone here gets excited when its a fish and chips night.

I order from here everyone couple months. Great value. Team are always polite. Ive had cod and chicken. Everything tasted good, large serving and was nice and hot. Parking: Parking is not a problem. Looks to have about 50 parking spots. Ive never seen more than a couple cars here at once.

Someone on another website recommended their onion rings to me [Im an onion ring fiend!] and I tried them today. Arrived hot and VERY crispy, good flavor. I enjoyed the dip that came on the side, looks to be some kind of flavored mayo? Will definitely be back to explore the menu more in the future.

Thought id give it a try after seeing some good reviews and im glad i did because it was delicious! *EDIT* After being back a couple times from my original experience, there was a noticeable decline in the food, I usually get the same thing (cripsy chicken sandwich) and both times it really just wasn t that great, which was quite disappointing as the first time I tried this place it was great. Changing my original review from a 5/5 to a 3/5

Went on a Tuesday for supper. Had their all u can eat special. Comes with 4 pieces of cod, fries(all u can eat.) and coleslaw. Great deal, all for under 25.00 dollars. Great value, great taste, and huge pieces of Cod, lightly battered which is the way I like my fish. Definitely coming back, and excited to try their chicken.

This is a takeout drive thru business in the same location where KFC used to be. It must be very difficult to run a business here or even get staff to run it, surrounded by a dozen boarded up skeletons of neighboring businesses that collapsed due to crime. But I commend this place, and the lady who served us at the drive thru this week. She was the ONLY person working, and apologized profusely for the wait. We are not in a hurry when we come here, so a 10 minute wait at the drive thru window doesnt concern us. She is doing everything, and doing it well, despite the sign on the window which states desperately seeking staff. The food here is actually really good, and reasonably priced. This is not the first time weve stopped, and of all the places which offer comparable seafood, its the one we will miss the most if it shutters. If you can justify the stop to support this business, it wont be wasted time. The cod and chips have been surprisingly reasonable and delicious, and if you miss the breaded jumbo prawns, youll never know how great these are. We get these EVERY time--they would be worth the stop alone. Havent tried anything else on the menu, because when you find something that works, its really hard to stray from it.

Food is on the more expensive side for fish and chips but definitely worth it. Ive had almost all of the fish and chip places in Nanaimo and this is my favorite

The fried oysters where delicious, and the chowder was great too. If only they could get a signature fruit drink, that would catapult them. One of the most underrated fried chicken places in our opinion. We always prefer Chick to Sea over other mainstream options like KFC or Popeyes. Atmosphere isnt great but we always get takeout and most of the staff are friendly. Weve only tried the chicken options and fries, but theyve been great every time!

The service was above and beyond. Ordered a 4 piece cod and chips for such a good price. They even threw in an extra piece of cod. Absolutely delicious food and would suggest this place to anybody.

This is hard. Its kinda like that poem about the girl with the curl. When she was good, she was very, very good. When she was bad, she was horrid. Went twice & was THRILLED with the spicy chicken & curry gravy. The third time, we were not asked which chicken we wanted, we automatically got regular and it was awful! We also ordered curry gravy & got regular which was also horrible. And the fries were so so.

So amazing. Found this place on New Years because they were open on Skip the Dishes when most other places were closed. What a great find! Their fish burger and fries are so yummy we ate there 4 times in one week!

Was happy to see this place spring up to replace Baby Salsa Express, tried it once and never went back. I heard a few good things about this new place and decided to give them a go despite my negative feelings for the old establishment. I was very impressed. Prices are fair for Nanimo standards and they still had some budget choices too. I bought the Chicken sandwich combo for $10.50 after tax. The fries are 6 stars out of 5 and some of the best I have gotten in Nanaimo. The fries remind me of 5-Guys and they give you a bunch, good bang for the buck. The chicken sandwich was decent too. I will be back to try other items and will recommend this place to my friends. I hope the quality and value stays as Nanaimo could use another great restaurant. Dont let my photo fool you there were still half as many fries in the bag as was shown here, I grazed a few on the way home too.

If you want great food and great service order from here . We ordered from Doordash and they totally dropped the ball saying while at the restaurant there app broke and could not deliver . Still was able to provide my phone # to the restaurant owner however ? The owner then called me and jumped into his truck and personally delivered our order . They will always have our business .

Now I have to confess I was surprised with todays visit to Chick to Sea. With nothing to gauge my visit by; I was delighted with the cod and chips I had for lunch. The fish appeared fresh and the chips were to die for. My wife had three sides, Macaroni, Potato and Coleslaw. All were superb and while I declare she makes the best Potato Salad in the world, she felt Chick to Seas was the best she had ever had. In a day when it is hard to eat out for less than a small fortune, Chick to Sea is a great alternative.

I was very sad when the White Spot in downtown Nanaimo closed because I always thought they had the best fish & chips. But then Chick to Sea opened pretty much in the same location and I found my new #1 choice for Fish & Chips.

Well, we had high hopes. Fish was ok, way too oily as if the oil wasnt hot enough when the fish was fried, though the fish had good flavor and we liked the fries. The reason for the 2 stars, rather than 3, was when we went to pay we were told the prices had increased but the sign hadnt been updated yet. However heres the problem: the prices on the sign and website were identical, and there was no note on the window that prices had increased. Hmmmm. Given these challenging times, I would understand if there had been a note on the window and the website was current. But since they werent we then questioned if we were maybe scammed?

Their chicken wraps are awesome, ask for lettuce on the side or no lettuce. Chicken is fresh and hot. By the time you eat your wraps the lettuce is limpy. Great place to eat, their own delivery service is quick. Everything on the menu is recommended.

Picked up a Doordash order for a customer. The drink was in a tall cup. The only place in Nanaimo that asked to pay one dollar, if we need a cup holder/tray to take the order. We told him that this was for a customer and he tells us to keep it in our car cup holder. I guess he doesnt know that we are supposed to keep customers food and drinks in a delivery bag. Disappointing.

Good local fish and chips! Notice, their menu has changed from what they have posted on their Google maps page. Check their online order portal for the updated one. Fish was good, once we got home it got soggy from sitting it the box but still good flavour. And the coleslaw was delicious!

The pieces of chicken are gigantic. However the batter is very lack luster. There is no seasoning so really nothing that makes this unique to them. Its just plain fried chicken. I gave them a shot but dont think I will be going back. I also gave a 3 star just for the portion size otherwise it would have been 2.

Been here a couple times now and Ive been impressed both times. 3 piece chicken meal and fish wrap so far......everything tastes fresh, has good seasoning and a good value for what you pay. Finally! We tried their menu. A short walk from Maffeo Sutton Park to Chick to Sea Express. When we arrived we asked if we could dine in. And yes we can. You only need to show you vaccine passport. They have two separate tables which can seat four. They also, have bar height tables and stools which can seat six. Food were excellent Everything we ordered were all delicious. There is wait times for your food but it is all worth it. Everything is served hot. From my point of view the total amount we pay for our order was a little bit expensive but again it is all worth it. Yum Excellent customer service. Staff were so polite and approachable. Hoping to order again soon.

And talk about value, where else will you get a big chunk of freshly battered fish, hand cut fries that arent greasy (must be baked!), homemade gravy (try the curry gravy), incredible poutine, and the best fish chowder anywhere! You can buy wings for $1 each, no minimum, spiced the way you like it. Open until ten at night - this place rocks!

Boy am I glad I did, this was absolutely some of the best chicken Ive ever had, fries were delicious as well. Plus the chicken pieces were huge, juicy and not greasy. Will definitely go again

A three piece, 2 legs, one thigh combo that came with a small fries, small gravy and a small pop. Upgraded 1 leg to a chicken breast for 1.25 extra. First impression was that the chicken was larger sized than anywhere else. Their chicken was some of the most succulent chicken I have had. I would prefer a more flavourful chicken.. My one piece of spicey chicken tasted to me, like it was extra spice put on. The fries were really tasty. I did not like the regular gravy at all and besides salt there was next to no flavour to it in my opinion. I only ate a little bit of it. I keep hearing about their curry gravy which I would like to try. I will be going back again and definitely want to try their fish and chips.
