11 Bastion St, Nanaimo, BC V9R 6E4, Canada
Eclectic menu items with extensive options for breakfast & dinner, in a relaxed setting.
Great view, and friendly staff. Prime rib special they have on Saturdays is a pretty good value (even more so if you're staying at the hotel). Prime rib was a little under salted but was easily solved with the table salt. Creme Brule was also very good.
3.5/5. Crab cakes: somewhat meaty, overcooked / burnt with old oil. Chicken Parmesan: not bad, also overcooked with same batch of oil. Both plates had solid presentation. Salad is good, crispy, and what looks to be zucchini noodles is a bonus.
My wife and I shared a great meal here. Kelly was great the meal amazing. The crab cakes are worth the drive from Victoria. The batter on Calamari light and crispy. Salads had a perfect vinaigrette. Beer nice and cold. A great lunch.
Love having dinner at this great restaurant. It's the perfect place to go for special occasions. We go here often before enjoying a show at the Port Theater. Friendly, professional service, fine meals, and well-priced for high-quality ingredients.
Stayed at The Coast Bastion for two nights and decided to try Minnoz for a late dinner on our last night. I ordered the sockeye salmon with wild mushroom and truffle risotto and vegetables, it was fantastic! So glad we chose to eat at Minnoz but I'm bummed we didn't try the nanimo bar cheesecake, apparently it's amazing 🙌
We stayed at Bastion Coast for 2 nights and we decided to try this restaurant. OMG everything we had were delicious. First night we had steak & scallops. Cooked to perfection. So we went back the next day for their Sunday prime rib special, calamari and tuna vermicelli salad. Everything were fantastic. Both of our servers were amazing and attentive. Can’t wait to come back here!
The prawn pasta was flavourful. The sprinkling of chilli peppers have it just the right amount of tingle for me. The crab cake was good too. The bed of arugula was very fresh and crunchy. The coffee was a little on the weak side... But I am used to espresso so most cups of Joe would be 'weak'! We arrived late Sunday evening so there was free street parking. But it is paid parking during the week. Further, if all the other restaurants were to open, there would not be such availability. The atmosphere was good. Our server was cheerful and efficient. The food came quickly. The seating was comfortable.
Very great location with great views! polite and efficient staff! The place was clean and organized! The food left something to be desired the famous nanimo bar cheese cake isn’t as good as it used to be though still worth trying I would say, the club sandwich and burger were a bit bland and made on not great bread. The menu was very small only like 7 entrees to chose from. If there had been more options with more effort put I to flavor this would have been 5 stars!
I dropped in for the live music but I really liked the food. The French onion soup was particularly good.
Perfect spot for breakfast with a view of the Nanaimo Harbor. We had Salmon Eggs Benny and the Healthy Choice, both well prepared and tasty. Service was friendly and efficient. Very Nice. Parking: Tight parking in busy downtown area.
Best dinner yet in this lovely restaurant! Great service and ambiance as well Generous portions and decent prices.., Well done Minnoz!!! Food : 5/5 |
This place has fine dining prices and we didnt make it to the meal because a bottle of Kraft dressing was put on the table, which tells me; the staff is not trained properly, and they cant be bothered to even make a simple dressing from scratch then everything is going to be prepackaged, reheated commercial products. We left and saved ourselves from further disappointment.
Great breakfast and service
Went for breakfast with out of town guests. Waitress was amazing great service. Food was, awful worst Benny Ive ever had pretty sure the so called back bacon was bad. Hardly anyone are their food so dissapointing . . . Worst food ever
The risotto and also the simple dish of fish and chips are super! Also recommended for the time, it doesnt close at 8pm like everyone else so you have a little extra margin for dinner.
We had such a great meal! A little slow but the food made up for it.
We came here for dinner because the hotel receptionist recommended it and told us we could order food until 9:30. But we waited at the door for about 15 minutes without anyone helping us, even though several staff members walked by. Finally, at 9:20, a lady told us they werent accepting any more customers. It was really frustrating to be ignored the whole time, especially since we could have gone somewhere else instead of wasting our time just standing there.
Everything was perfect. Very friendly and attentive waitress. We recommend this restaurant.
We ordered steaks - after waiting approximately 1 hour in an almost empty restaurant, they were cold when they got to the table, tough, and unseasoned. Sides consisted of dry potatoes and veg. Drinks were good, service was good but highly disappointed in the food, especially considering the price. Table next to us also sent two plates back. Don t recommend.
We had a great meal at this restaurant for my wife s birthday. Brilliant service from our waiter Kelly.
Terrible experience. VERY overpriced. I had the fish and chips and the piece of fish was like a mini fish stick. My partner had a roast beef that was bland and tasteless. They did not have the Catch of the day which is shocking! This is a Coast hotel restaurant on the coast huh? And our waiter? Mark!! He actually said he wished he was out fishing. It s a shame because the hotel is amazing but the restaurant just doesn t cut it at all. A BIG waste of money.
Today our family group had a birthday lunch for our Mothers 94th birthday. We had pre-booked a large table at Minnoz and pre-ordered our meals. We had the most wonderful experience imaginable! Our server, Cary, was professional and attentive. Our meals were delicious and hot. As a surprise, our mother was given a celebratory glass of prosecco and a tableside Baked Alaska. Highly highly recommend!!
We never eat at hotel restaurants due to seeing too many episodes of Faulty Towers, but while we were on our way to the Saysutchun Island ferry dock, we had a random conversation with a couple who were raving about how good their dinner was at a place near the Bastion last night. When we asked them if it was in the Coast hotel, they said Yes!!!). So tonight I had the best bowl of French onion soup I ve ever had, and the braised short rin plate reminded me of the best Osso Buco I had many years ago on Denman street in Vancouver. Very tender, great gravy and vegetables with Boursin cheese mashed potatoes. Stephanie the server was fantastic and put up with my bad jokes! Truly a Nanaimo gem
Amazing steak and fish here! The crème brûlée also very nice! Food
Staff is amazing! I ve eaten here for breakfast and lunch while staying at the hotel. Great views, prices are reasonable for the area and the food is above average. Highly recommend the coal miner breakfast. Amazing value.
If you happen to be in town this is the place, dont think twice. Were glad we ate dinner and breakfast here. The breakfast was delicious and our waitress, Stephanie, was knowledgeable and her suggestions were great. Highly recommend this!!!
One of the best Salmon burger and fries places in Nanaimo. Wonderful ambiance for lunch or dinner.
Little pricy but was good!
Mark made a mark on us. Manmeet was welcome and accommodating. Lovely ending to a busy day!
$5 decent house wine and local draft beer for happy hour, and all four special priced appies we had were tasty. Plus great location, service and comfortable seating. 2024 update: outside of happy hour apparently the wine is much more expensive ($14).
Enjoyed the fabulous harbour view. I had the salmon burger with a gluten-free bun with the mixed green salad. All were delicious. The service was also spot on.
The fish dishes are a must try!
Very delicious Coal miner breakfast with good service. The atmosphere is wonderful.
My wife and I had dinner here before the April Wine show. This place really is very enjoyable. Our food was outstanding, and the service was impeccable. A huge shout out to our server Stephanie who was very friendly , knowledgeable, and made us feel very welcome! We will be back!
A very well established and comfortable spot for a delicious meal. Wait staff are friendly and attentive. The decor has been updated quite tastefully and is a modern space. We had breakfast - omelette, traditional sausage and eggs and waffles. All was well presented and prepared and quite tasty.
My husband and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary there last night. We had been married in the Coast Bastion and Minnoz had done the catering. We were seated in a sweet, private table with an amazing view of the harbour. Our waiter, Mark, was professional, funny and timely. At the end of an incredible meal of crab cakes, chicken and tenderloin, we were gifted a delicious piece of Nanaimo bar type cake with two candles. Thank you!
Our server Alisha was wonderful and very efficient. The Dining out Nanaimo menu was canceled Jan 17 without any notification. We had confirmed it would be when we called for the reservation. When we arrived, we learned that it would not be available. What a disappointment.... and frankly, false advertising. Simply, do better.
Our family was there for Christmas Dinner and the whole dinner was excellent! Thank You so much.
Amazing food can be very busy make reservations for sure.
Everything was great ... but why change up the popular happy hour? (Ill bet place would have been busier if regular 5 pm happy hour was brought back.)
LOVE the avocado on toast for breakfast. Great food, great service. Enough room to be comfortably spaced from the next table. Food
Very delicious food, friendly staff, good drinks. We always come to this restaurant when we have family down. Its very consistent.
The pancakes must have been good because they somehow disappeared before I remembered to take a photo of them
Great food with great service.
Great place
Best burger in town. Apps great
Small menu , good food , great service
Celebrated a birthday with my family, we were disappointed with the menu choices. What we had was good, not quite what we wanted. Havent been since pre-covid, lots of changes!
I stayed at the Coast Bastion hotel for three nights and dine in this restaurant for breakfast and dinner .. amazing food and service, have traveled lots of countries and this is one of the best restaurants that I went to, try their avocado toast for the breakfast and fungi flatbread for lunch/ dinner
March 31st. Great live entertainment. Food/drink prices were a little expensive. However, the vermicelli salad was wonderful. Entertainment was excellent. Get there early if you want a good seat to see the entertainment in the lounge. Would be a great spot for private dates with all their walls on the lounge side.
Service and foods are all really good!
Average food and beverage. OK service. Parking: Dont leave anything in your car. Food : 3/5 |
The waiter, Kelly, was amazing. Other than that, terrible!! Our food was so bad we couldnt eat it. The medium poached eggs were very hard, the hollandaise sauce was foamy. And the pulled pork sandwich was completely inedible. The pork was overwhelmingly salty, with a little bit of black pepper and no other flavor. I would have had to force myself to eat it. The fries were soggy. Do not recommend!! Kelly was great and didnt charge us for our food, and we went to a different restaurant.
Good food
Cannot say how wonderful the service was. Michael and Natasha went waayyyy up and beyond what was necessary. You have two loyal and now regular customers. Other restaurants could take a lesson. One million thanks
Delicious, recommend to anyone.
Minnoz has great food, from breakfast to lunch to dinner. Servers are wonderful, friendly and attentive. I always have a great dining experience here.
We ate from the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus during our stay at the Coast Bastion. Every meal was delicious, good value and many ingredients are sourced locally. Our server Stephanie (luckily her shifts coincided with our stay) was friendly and professional.
Great food, flatbreads for half price were amazing. Salmon burgers were really good, perfectly cooked. Service was quick and our server was very friendly. Nice lighting and overall atmosphere. 5/5
Nice place, informal atmosphere with very friendly staff who think along and are helpful. Delicious burgers.
From the appetizer coming before the drinks to the vegetables on the main being hotter then the protein! This place was a real disappointment I mean come on if you cant serve real Calamari in a fine dine restaurant by the sea something is very wrong with the chef!
Service was perfect! Food was excellent. 10 out of 10!
Bacon and egg sandwich
Great restaurant inside the Coast Bastion Hotel in Nanaimo. Very polite and attentive staff. Good food.
My Wife and I had lunch here, absolutely terrible food. Did not eat food, Chicken burger smelled nasty. We left. We will never eat here again. Food
Very nice brunch, with very friendly staff. We sat for a long time and didnt feel rushed. Would recommend.
Not so friendly servers. Chowder was great.
I am a fan of Minnows, especially Stephanie. She has served me several times & did everything right with her friendly attentive style. I took my daughter for brunch one day, but it was 5 to 11:00 so we couldnt get brunch. This was a disappointment. We were seated in another persons section. The service was terrible, she got our orders mixed up, our food took exceptionally long to arrive. She brought me something I didnt ask for , blamed it on the kitchen & was generally inattentive, including no spoons! Like how do you stir your coffee? It was woefully disappointing. Next time I went for brunch I was relieved to have Stephanie & told her so. She then proceeded to go out of her way to provide us with prompt , perfect service & the best eggs Benny & mimosa - ever! She has a lovely, friendly personality on top of exceptional serving skills. Overall, that was the only negative experience I have had at Minnows in years of going there. *Except for the Happy hour.* Its too late! With our downtown office back in the building there are a lot of people looking for happy hour on Friday. We are all home in bed by 9:00 on a Friday. Come on, bring it back at the normal time. Your competitors Top Notch has it from 3-5 & the Prosecco is $7 a glass not $10. Thankfully you have Stephanie keeping customers happy! Well done Stephanie & thank .you . Parking: So the parking in the parkade while handy, the parkade is filthy. It really needs to be powerwashed. Not sure who is responsible for that horror but I have let the city know my concerns. Thankfully the Coast parkade entrance is relatively clean & does not smell of urine.
Super friendly staff and a very chill atmosphere. Food was absolutely delicious as well A+
Had Seafood Pasta, was very good, a little spicy just how I like it. The service was on point. It was a perfect place for a late night meal. I had a Mojito aswell, they put sugar in it. Wasnt my favorite. Other than that Ill definitely be back.
Cary..youre amazing + fun..exceptional service with smile
We had breakfast here twice during stay in the Bastion hotel, and enjoyed both. Quality but simple breakfast menu prepared well and served pleasantly. Parking: Paid lot shared between hotel and adjacent theater, or on street parking in off season.
Ate here 3 times during my stay. The service was polite but sterile- no personality. The curry chicken soup was nice but the chicken burger was less than average. Not worth the price but palatable. My coworker did try the catch of the day and said it was really good. The decor is nice but there is nothing about this place to set it apart. Nice but average. Wheelchair accessibility: It is accessible
Fast, friendly service, eggs Benny was delicious. Had many from different places over the last few weeks and theirs ranks among the top 2 for sure.
The food is mediocre at best, and the service just completely lacks any quality professionalism.
Another wonderful dinner at this restaurant last night. Great staff, food and location. Looking forward to my next visit!
We go for happy hour (5-6pm) . Flatbread (4 varieties) on for $9 and local craft beer on for $6 pint and Blue Grouse (Cowichan valley) wine for $6 a glass. Great views of downtown. Good service. Walkable to other restaurants, breweries. Happy hour crawl fun.
Everything youd expect from a nice restaurant. Waitress was very nice an attentive. Breakfast was great. Had avacado toast and we also had the classic Benedict. Good prices.
Yum
Great service and selections of wine
Great service and sumptuous meal
Had a girls weekend and ate there for breakfast. My Charlotte Benny was fabulous taste, well plated, and filling! Friend got the Canadian with a substitution. Our server, Stephanie, was a gem.
Bouillabaisse was a smaller portion than I expected for the price but did taste good. Service was good and nice view
We had dinner at this restaurant, it was a bit quiet in comparison with the other restaurants in the neighborhood. We had the charcuterie and pan seared salmon, this was with a good taste. For drinks we chose the cocktails but they were a bit disappointing. The barman needs a refreshment course in making the correct cocktails.
Poor quality food definitely not worth the price you pay. My experience here was extremely disappointing, I would usually stay at the coast hotel while visiting family and will go to minnoz just because it was convenient, but even for the convenience the food is just not good enough.
Breakfast this morning was fantastic. Carrie our server was such a breathe of fresh air and made our morning. Just so nice and genuine to all her tables. Outstanding service!!
Nice restaurant, good food and reasonable prices
Best breakfast Ive had since moving to Nanaimo. Everything was executed with skill and perfection. Incredibly good prices, which is unexpected in a hotel restaurant. I have got to come back soon and try the dinner menu!
We had a large group of 18. So yes always a challenge but we warned. Took 45 min to get a drink. The mussels were full of sand for each order. The crab cakes had little chips of crab shell in the them. Mussels, hardly any broth, little skinning ones.
Happy hour flatbreads were good but breakfast was great! The eggs benedict was delicious and Carly was the best waitress I have had in a long time- attentive, friendly but also quick.
Hotel breakfast has two requirements: be available, and be prepared correctly. I dont need it to be fancy, I dont need it to be absolutely perfect or creative. I just need my order to be done in a reasonable amount of time, and done right. Our experience at Minnoz was that the food was sort of right and sort of on time, but not fully, in either case. Our server was friendly and apologetic and clearly hustling hard, but the fact that a group of six or seven guests had ordered just before us shouldnt have meant we had to wait extra time for breakfast -- its essentially a group of two small tables, not a busload of people. Alas, thats what we were told, more than once, as were other guests. And the flurry included slow seating, slow coffee/tea and water delivery.... so I guess that should have been our clue that the kitchen and service staff was easily overwhelmed. As such, just as we heard other guests commenting that their orders were also wrong, my eggs were over hard, not over medium, and my wifes eggs were poached light, not hard, for her order of avocado toast. Otherwise, our breakfasts were decent, and fairly portioned. Coffee was hot and plentiful, and tea was delivered already steeping -- a small point, but an important one, if you drink tea. Hard to be enthusiastic about a $17 eggs & bacon breakfast not cooked correctly to order, hence the three stars. But yes, if I were staying in the Coast Bastion again, Id give the Minnoz breakfast another shot, to see if it could in fact be worth the price and the time invested to dine here.
We enjoyed a quiet meal here while spending the night in the hotel. The staff from the host to the bartender to our server were all super friendly and professional! Top tier service! Food was excellent although the salad had a lot of frisée which was on the bitter side. We ordered the pasta but asked to sub salmon for the prawns and the chef willingly complied. The black pasta was super cool! The flavors were wonderful and the portion perfect! We shared so we would have room for dessert - the Nanaimo Cheesecake was oh so good and beautiful!
Delicious food, friendly staff and a pleasant dining experience.
Breakfast- tasty potatoes and perfectly done eggs. We ordered them poached and over medium. Quick service, efficient and kind waitress. Dinner-ordered take out. Delicious Thai noodles in green curry. Truly made with quality ingredients. We added grilled chicken which was well seasoned and soft. We give the burger 4/5 , good solid burger. The sticky toffee pudding was superb. Service was also quick
I had dinner and appy hour two nights in a row for this current business trip. I did went here two months ago but it was with a brief stay for a glass of Blue Grouse wine with a group of executives during early appy hour before departing for a business dinner with another executive group across the street. First evening I had the fungi flatbread & the 10 oz striploin. I was so hungry after arriving from Victoria that I had a voracious appetite and the food was amazing. Second night I missed early appy hour due to complications and had the salmon first, then came back for the chicken pesto flatbread. Again simply delish but somewhat disheartened with the service in late appy hour. I didnt get the chance to order a second flatbread and by the time I finally had that servers attention, I was denied for a second order of flatbread. Either way, totally recommend. If you stay at the hotel from Wednesday to Saturdays at the Coast Bastion Hotel, you get 15% off dinner entrees and 50% off flatbreads during appy hour periods. Compliments to the chef, hope I get to try again next time Im in the area. Parking: Parking is $9 per day for Coast Bastion Hotel clients. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a lift ramp for wheelchairs on the side in lieu of the steps to get up to the restaurant.
Very expensive but a captive audience because the restaurant is located in the hotel. Not recommended for local folks. Better prices elsewhere.
Satisfactory food.
The most delicious steak I have ever had and the service was delightful.
We were doing the nanaimo bar trail and decided to try the minnoz Nanaimo bar cheesecake for take out. The cheesecake itself was very delicious. However it took 30 mins for them to prep a slice of cheesecake for take out. Also, for the price of $12, youd think youd get a decent slice, but wasnt that great. Nothing too special about the Nanaimo bar cheesecake in my opinion.
Slow service but a good ambiance in restaurant
Service was Terrible. The waitress (Alisha) checked on the table beside us on the right, walked passed us and checked on the table on the left of us. Both tables were NEXT to us. She never stopped to ask if we wanted any more drinks or anything else not even the bill. After waiting and waiting, we got up ourselves and went to the bar to ask for our bill to pay and leave.
Good food and drinks with friendly staff in the coast hotel Nanaimo.
Great service! Amazing food!!! I had the prawn and mushroom pasta and it was delicious! Will definitely come back
One of the worst breakfasts Ive ever eaten. Scrambled eggs chopped up into tiny pieces, overcooked flavorless rubbery sausage (deep-fried) flavorless tough chewy greasy bacon served at room temperature (also deep-fried). Potatoes tasted like they were left unwrapped in the refrigerator. Im still trying to get that horrible taste out of my mouth...really bad people. The chef should be embarrassed!
Nice ambiance..good food
Lovely tunes tonight, thanks Minnoz - and the calamari was delightful
$23 Went for breakfast. Canadian breakfast with extra sausage and green tea. Robi, the waitress was a joy to be around. The food was tasty and they had gluten free toast! I was super excited about that. Very good breakfast. Id come back again forsure.
Happy hour specials are great! Also get the grilled cheese
Vert nice great decor, harbours views
Great place for late night dining, lounge is very comfy. Open when other places arent. Good servers (shout out to Alicia!) Braised short ribs are heaven.
Good food and a beautiful location, our server Cary was funny and helpful. If Im back up in Nanaimo Ill for sure atop by again.
Neat bar. Not a huge fan of the restaurant seating and I found the prices to be a little steep
Amazing food! Amazing presentation! And amazing service! highly recommend
Not open since Covid.
Open only for breakfast at this time. Very attentive service and excellent food. Peekaboo view of the ocean from a window seat. The Sablefish came with rice, seasonal vegetables and a light sauce. In short, there was nothing overly fancy and the fish was allowed to speak for itself and that s exactly what you want with a dish like sablefish. Simple yet delicious.
This restaurant has pretensions, but I recommend the hamburger. I didnt have the hamburger but I figure its not to easy to screw up. We ordered the 1) Smoked ribeye. First, the smoke and the au poivre fight with each other. Second, ordered medium rare, received medium. Ate it anyway because we were hungry. 2) Lobster ravioli. Oh my, where to start. The lobster filling didnt taste of lobster, even though thats what it must have said on the can. Sort of a generally fishy taste and texture. The capers and olives added a lot of salt but the chef added more, creating a very salty mix indeed. The chef (I use the word loosely) should either decide putenesca or creme but a creme putenesca is just confused. The service was fine, we had a great view of the snow storm outside. But overall the worst meal I have had in a while. Couldnt finish it.
Abundant in all the dishes they make
Awesome at breakfast as usual.
Amazing food and even better service !
Great lunch special.
The service is always exceptional here however, Cary is literally the best server in all of Nanaimo. Whether I am there for a business meeting or for a girls lunch, she knows how to provide the best service for each situation - offering privacy when needed, and adding to the enjoyment of a casual get together. Minnoz offers a great atmosphere for hosting visitors or for hosting a business lunch.
Great cocktails
Excellent service and good food.
The Canadian breakfast was great and we had exceptional service and fun with Carey the waitress.
Always great food
Extremely poor service. It took 1.5 hours to be served salads with 1 appetizer ( to be served all at once ) for a table of 3. Food was ok, but overpriced. Waiter was completely inattentive and did not even ask if we wanted a second drink or apologize for wait. I had also made an inquiry about an ingredient in my salad I needed to avoid, and after 1.5 hour wait the waiter set my long awaited dinner down and informed me it contained the unwanted ingredient. At this point we were nearly late for our theatre event next door, so there was not much I could do. Very disappointing.
Great food and view. Variety of menu options
Good place
Inside the Coast Bastion Hotel, Minnoz Restaurant and Lounge is a great place for an intimate evening out. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Be sure to try their famous Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake while gazing out into the harbour.
Excellent food excellent service. We brought a group of 20 in for a birthday celebration and everything was awesome! The prime rib 3 course meal is top notch!
All I can say is GO. If you are in Nanaimo you wont regret it. My wife and I stayed in the #coastbastionhotel and had room service. You wont regret it. Kyla was our server and she does her restaurant proud!!
Calamari : rubbery and coated in supermarket breadcrumbs that have a lovely chemical aftertaste. Fries : greasy and 300% more salt than necessary. Service : my kid can i have water without ice? Reply is : it s easy to take it out .
Had the bone in pork chop and spicy wings as an Appy the food was really good. The service was great and the atmosphere was laid back. Keep in mind I was one of two people in the restaurant and it was 9pm.
This is an excellent restaurant with well prepared food an quality service.
Wonderful fresh seafood with a beautiful view of Nanaimo harbor. Service was excellent and specials are delicious. Definitely a place for a special occasion or a treat as its a little pricey. The best clams and muscles Ive ever had.
So we ordered a take out Nanaimo Bar Cheesecake @ Minnoz. Although it was a take out, they still arranged it nicely for us.And of course, it looked like, tasted like and smelled like Nanaimo Bar, but it was not as sweet as traditional Nanaimo Bar. The sweetness was prefect for us! I would say I like this cheesecake more than regular nanaimo bar.
The food was subpar for the price. I thought the lobster ravioli was a good bet, as that s an easy thing to do well, but the flavours did not match very well. Though, I heard other dishes are better
Best breakfast and staff!
Burger was good.
Perfect
While the space and atmosphere is lovely, the food left much to be desired. I ordered the seafood steam bowl thinking being on the coast, how could I order anything but? It consisted of clams, mussels, salmon, a whitefish (halibut or cod but honestly I could not tell) and two crab claws. It was served with a side of spaghetti over a saffron broth. This was the worst dish I have had in a long time. The fish and crab was so over cooked that it was tough. The only plausible conclusion is that the crab claws were previously frozen. The clams were old and two had not even opened. The pasta had been (over)cooked in saltless water (as an Italian this is sinful). The broth had no flavour at all. At only $25 I was not expecting a masterpiece but in all honesty the only edible thing on the plate were the mussels. To add insult to injury, not a single dollar was taken off my bill. Won t be back.
Good breakfast, took forever to get seated though.
I share a main entree with a friend as the portions for the fish and chips were large. The fish was well cooked. It is on the pricier side, but worth it if you want to share with someone. Very nice restaurant located in the coast bastion hotel. Service can be a bit slow sometimes. Food is very good. Clean atmosphere. There is also a bar lounge .
good service great food
Amazing staff and excellent food
This restaurant is located at the harbour front in downtown Nanaimo at the Coast Bastion Hotel, good seafood selection and steaks, my favorite is the spice rubbed pork chop, and for desert, cant resist the salted caramel cheesecake mmmmmm!
Went for breakfast. Ordered the classic benny with spinach. It was wonderful. Highly recommended.
Had thanksgiving dinner which was dried out turkey, small portions of potatoes, dressing and gravy. Soup was ok, dark ambience, worn out tables, no table clothes, could not order dark meat, very expensive, noisy like a beer parlor. Would not visit again. I expect good food, good value, classy decor. Very disappointing!!!
Absolutely a fun place to hang out & socialize Wide food selections plus great live music venue!
Excellent food and service
Fun gals Great prices and food was excellent We even played a little trick on our friend Roz She wanted something white. She got water Told her it was a high power shot Servers played it up to a tee Good times had by all
Excellent seafood and very helpful and friendly staff.
Super staff here at Minnoz! Alisha is really fun and a very knowledgeable server! They have live music on Fridays which is a great reason to keep coming back !
Very flavorful dishes, great service and at a reasonable price. Lobster ravioli was to die for!
Fish and chips were great
Food is pretty good, not a lot of atmosphere. Nice views of the waterfront.
Always love the food here. I like to think of it as one of Nanaimos most overlooked fine dining experiences.
Classy place
Good food nice environment.
Decent food overall. My seafood chowder was great but everything else that everyone ordered was okay. Not the best value for the price. Good service and good with kids too. They gave my friends 3 year old some crayons and a coloring sheet as well as accomated and provided a booster seat. I recommend trying the nanaimo bar cheese cake!
Good service; great breakfast.
Very hospitable little place. I have had many delicious meals here through the years and have many fond memories of time spent at the bar with family and friends. Wonderful servers make the place a home away from home.
Service was good portion was a little small for the price
Sensational cuisine, plus prompt and polite service.
Noisy. Great for a ready party. Rude and insensitive service.
Great food good service. Good place to visit before heading to the port theatre for a show.
Great food and service
Ordered the muscles, they came out looking dry, old and tasted funky, reviewed by three people (one being a local). Ordered the salmon burger, sent it back after one tiny bite due to being cold and tasting funky. My guest ordered the crab cakes, they were tasteless. You would think being right on the ocean the fish would be fresh but yet everything seemed old and frozen. We spent almost $100 to go home feeling sick. This is almost concerning... I will be contacting management as well about this visit.
Ordered the salmon burger with ceaser salad. Looked great, but was not tasty. I could not eat everything, becuase it was cold and seemed to me that it was frozen. I was concerned my health. Also, the ceaser salada is no taste. I cant say it is a ceaser salad. It is a lemon salad... I will never go threre again.
Dinner was excellent. Service was good they checked on us . Nice view. Relaxing.
Great food and service.
My spouse went in on his lunch break friday to make a reservation for us on Saturday evening. The mid 40 s lady behind the bar took one look at him and said sorry we re full . I phoned a few hours later and made a reservation for Saturday with no issues at all. I was even given options for time. (Clearly not full!) It s a shame that the bartender turned away a hard working man in work clothes. Judging people by their looks won t get you very far!
