Roll & Chicken in Nanaimo

The chicken is to die for!! It is boneless which was a nice surprise. I highly recommend the sweet soy flavour! We also tried the dynamite roll and bomb ball. The bomb ball wasnt great, I wouldnt recommend it, but the dynamite roll was really good. All in all, we will definitely be back for the chicken and to try more of the menu! Service and prices are great

The sushi is very good, the portions generous, and the service quick (Saturday night at 7PM). We will certainly be back, and regularly!

You call to speak with the manager and they say he s not there for another month then you ask why he s not there for a month, then they proceed to stay quiet on the phone then hang up after 5 mins of not saying anything Very Professional behaviour at this place Owner and Staff are a bunch of useless tools

The fried chicken ramen was one of the best things i consumed in my entire trip across west Canada. I m now in London still thinking about it. Was also pretty much the only place in the area delivering after 9pm so is a lifesaver if you re jetlagged or a late eater. Recommend!

For was average, but feeling sick during the night, dinning area is worn out and dirty, kitchen looks dirty, kitchen openly exposed to rotting garbage dumpsters outside , male waiter is rude and inexperienced.

Very disappointing :( I drove all the way there to get a ramen because a review said they wrecked good and I still haven t found a ramen place in town. It was just noodles and beef, no egg. First time I get a ramen without an egg. I also asked if it could be made not spicy and he said yes and I got the spiciest ramen I have ever had. I could have ordered something else had he been honest. I am definitely never returning.

Tried Roll & Chicken for the first time today and was extremely disappointed. The restaurant was dirty with no soap in the bathrooms and it was the worst sushi I ve ever had. The rice was mushy, the fish was warm & smelled off, didn t eat it. The sushi was worse than grocery store sushi which I didn t think was possible. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Ordered food to go. Evan was really nice and friendly. Ordered the Korean Ramen and fried chicken. Both were served hot and flavorful. They even have beer and soju here. Place was cozy and softly lit. I thanked the chefs and they were nice enough to come out and say hi. Best smorgasbord in town, always busy always good.

The atmosphere was nice and the food was very delicious. However, even though there were no customers, it took more than 5 minutes to bring me a glass of water, and when I asked for hot tea, 15 minutes later, the food itself was delicious, but no side dishes were served. It would have been great if there was at least a plate of kimchi or radish radish.

Worst experience ever. Doesn t matter how great the food is if you get it hours later after orderning when you are not even hungry anymore. Ordered food for take out..had to wait 1 hour outside the restaurant. Whenever asked everytime said 5 more minutes I mean what?

Awful service and the rudest waitress I have ever experienced at a restaurant in Nanaimo. we visited on evening of feb 3rd. She Knew nothing about the menu items and refused to check when asked. Gave us wrong item for food for double the price and refused to show us itemized receipt at end when paying saying we dont do that! Was very rude throughout and neglectant. Rolled her eyes lots at questions very poor experience shame for this server to let the kitchen down! *EDIT* I contacted the owners after my visit to notify them and they were apologetic, accepted fault and refunded my full bill. Thank you to them for doing this - it does make a difference to me choosing to visit again in future.

Delicious hot/sweet fried chicken and an Angus roll. The half order of chicken is huge and I had plenty left over to make gimbap tonight. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are attentive and efficient.

I always order a california roll, a dynamite roll and veggie spring rolls for takeout! The flavors are absolutely amazing! Prices and portions are very fair! And the staff are always super friendly and helpful! Im so glad I discovered this lovely restaurant so close to home!!!

Absolutely everything is delicious but I recommend the salmon Yobu, and the gyosas, they are delicious and the salmon I have never tried it so fresh Dads croquettes are interesting, like with eel and mayonnaise. The chicken 10/10 crispy.

I would have given 5 stars but honestly it wasnt a great experience. The worker seemed almost annoyed we wanted to dine in. They dont take cash at all which I found odd. The food was good but it wasnt a great experience as this was my third time going. I hope it was an off day but unfortunately with all the other places for sushi this wasnt a good enough experience to try again. I hope when someone wants to dine in they are treated better then me and my son were.

Usually go to Kim BBQ for hotpot Gam Ja Tang, but they only have it on Wednesday and usually very busy. And this restaurant has amazing Korean soups and hotpots. I ate a here this a few times and never get disappointed. Highly recommend their Korean Cuisine menu.

Highly recommend for both eat in and take out. Casual seating suitable for families with young children. Kid-friendliness: No high chairs or booster seats so we brought our own. Wheelchair accessibility: Ground level entrance.

As a Vancouver transplant, I ve been so disappointed with how severely lacking the food in Nanaimo is. This joint is a massive diamond in the rough. Super creative and delicious creations. The chefs clearly have passion and real skill in balancing flavours, sauces, and unique combos. The decor is not nice, but the food is world class and any jaded foody be delighted.

The food here is great! Unfortunately, the service is pretty slow. Ive been there twice, and each time the service was slow, and they even forgot to bring my drink. The atmosphere is like a cafeteria even though they do have table service. Recommended if you arent in a hurry. Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible.

New business, food was great. Menu is a odd fusion of sushi/sashimi with Korean fried chicken and some other Asian dishes. The fried chicken is amazing!! Boneless chicken, the sauce is house made and just the right amount of sweet and spicy! . We found this place by chance while traveling thru town to parksville. Loved the chicken so much that we drove back to Nanaimo just to get more the next day! Wish there was something like this in Calgary!

This restaurant is seriously incredible. I order the poké bowl and absolutely love it. You can build it with protein and toppings you desire! Service is warm and welcoming, and food is consistently delicious. It s so filling the price and portions can t be beat! : )

Yea, its ok! Just ordered sushi on door dash. It was nothing out of this world. Specialty rolls were plain. I would try it again, maybe it was just one of those days!

My family and I sometimes order from Roll and Chicken. Its usually decent and does the job but today, and I dont know if it had to do with new cooks, but it was awful, the WORST sushi Ive ever had. Rice was mushy and a film of unknown milky substance was painted on all the rolls. Tasted really sweet which ruined the sushi flavour. It was as if I was eating mushy candy. The dynamite roll was drenched in some sweet brown syrup. What for? So disappointing.

I always order chicken teriyaki rice bowl from here . And last month accidentally I got charged twice and when I told owner about it she gave me 1 free rice bowl .Staff is so nice too always go above and beyond

Never been disappointed with their food, its been delicious every time. The fried chicken is fantastic--the chicken mayo bowl especially! The sushi is always great quality. They have classic rolls and some wild ones, something for everyone. My #1 favorite item is the cheese fries, though, theyre out of this world and I get them every time I order from Roll & Chicken. Several bus routes stop right beside the restaurant and its less than a block from Country Club Mall where even more buses go, so its real easy to get to.

Ordered first time, but wont return. While nothing as bad, it also wasnt great. The sushi was mostly imitation crab and fried chicken was bland. Should get actual fish in sushi at $15 a roll.

We played cards and they were fine with it, had a drink and it was a pretty warm atmosphere, albeit we were the only ones in there. I could picture it to be bustling if they had more customers. Delicious food especially the shrimp tempura

I cant believe this gem of a place has been right under my nose for the past couple of years! Today, I went there on a whim, and I was not dissapponted. Roll&Chicken offers the best of Japanese and Korean cuisine, often blending the two when making their delicious fusion offerings. I tried the Roll&Chicken roll and the Poke Bowl, and I was extremely pleased with both. The restaurant has a large parking lot and its tucked away just off Norwell Drive. The only reason I gave four stars rather than five is that the restaurants delivery radius on the food ordering apps is very small, so I always have to drive to drive out to get their delicious food. Either way, I highly recommend Roll&Chicken for lunch, dinner, or just a snack.

I am disappointed to give this amazing place 2 stars. I have tried to go in multiple times when it has been stated on their hours to be open and they were closed. For example yesterday I was going to go in however when arriving the restaurant was closed. It would be more professional if you had the correct hours posted. They also promised multiple times that they were opening at lunch throughout this year for wellington students, after trying to go at lunch multiple days we never were able to find them open during lunch. Despite the fact that they don t have the correct hours posted and decide when the place is closed, the food is good however inconsistent as inferred from other reviews. On top of all this when I do find them open, certain male staff have been dismissive and interruptive during my experience there and all around seems like an unprofessional place.

Very average sushi rolls for the price. First sushi place in Nanaimo I ve seen where the specialty roll was the same size as the regular rolls. If you go I would skip the sushi.

Put off eating here for almost a year, thinking oh, its just another sushi restaurant... Boy, was I wrong! Not only is this the ONLY (literally, there isnt anywhere else) in Nanaimo to get teokboki, it was also excellent! The pork bone soup was phenomenal, hearty broth, HUGE portions, uncompromising flavour... Service was excellent, atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. Soju and beer. Chicken was tender and perfectly seasoned. My only complaint is that I didnt give them a chance earlier... They are even open LATE! 11PM! Nanaimo doesnt have many late night options, especially on the north end, so the fact I put them off for so long is criminal. I am ashamed, but, I am also very full and completely satisfied... Guess I win :D

We got a special roll (dragon roll), a regular roll (spicy salmon), sweet spicy chicken, appetizer sashimi and the yubu sushi. This was more than enough between three people- the dragon roll was especially massive. We loved everything, and the service was attentive. After seeing all the hype online about the new japanes style fried chicken I thought I would give Roll and Chicken a try . I was extremely disappointed,I ordered a poke bowl and the sweet soy five piece chicken. The poke bowl wasnt bad but some of my toppings were not fresh, the radish was dry and flaccid from being left uncovered as well as the cabbage. The fried chicken was probably the worst out of the two. the chicken tasted like it had been cooked in old deep fryer oil.i also waited 35minutes for my takeout with only 2 tables seated inside the restaurant, and at 35.62 for one person the price point is far off the mark. If I had to put a dollar sign on what I ate today I would say that product was no more than $10. I will try rolling chicken again and update my review at that point in time.

I ordered home delivery over the phone and was delighted by how accommodating John the owner was . Delivery was fast and the food delicious. The Teriyaki Chicken Donburi was the best I have had in Nanaimo. Everything was cooked to perfection.

Tried this restaurant for the first time tonight. We had the roll & chicken sushi, it was amazing, and the Bbuling chicken. The crispy chicken with a cheese type coating was such a pleasant surprise. I m not usually one for fried chicken but this was crispy, not greasy and delicious! My husband and I shared and found these 2 dishes to be plenty for a late lunch. The Covid protocol made us feel safe and their cleaning practices we could see were thorough. We will definitely be back.

If you havent tried these guys, do it!! We have been searching for a good Poke bar restaurant in Nanaimo for a while now. We have had a few from Vancouver to Victoria, and this one is right up there! We tried a variety of food from a Poke bowl, sushi, tempura and the chicken. EVERYTHING was absolutely on point! The service was fantastic and everything was served quickly! We will definitely be returning!

Absolutely amazing food, and service was great. Its a small atmosphere but warm and inviting and their sweet and spicy chicken is superb. Worth going and checking out, lots of chicken and roll choices. Sushi is pretty stellar as well.

Unfortunatly the staff in the kitchen had messed up the orders and we had to wait a while for our food. The food itself is OK.

I ordered for pick up and they had the order correct and on time. The avocado yubu was delicious in particular. The chicken inside the ichiban roll wasn t a crispy chicken so it seemed a bit dry. The fish was fresh and delicious.

I placed an order online which was confirmed and accepted. An HOUR later I got a phone call from Door Dash saying the restaurant cancelled my order and a refund would be issued because they ran out of ingredients. By then it was too late to order something else because other restaurants were closing and not taking more orders. You should be better organized and not have confirmed the order if you cant plan well enough to have enough ingredients on hand to fulfill the orders you get. We could have ordered from somewhere else. Thank a lot!

The chicken was phenomenally juicy and satisfyingly crunchy, all while coated in a delicious sticky spicy sauce. Roll&Chicken makes some of the best chicken I ve had anywhere.

Probably the best sushi in town. I absolutely love their ramen too. I ve tried almost everything on the menu and their food is never a miss. The Fried chicken is flavorful, but generously battered and very crispy. Not my cup of tea but my girlfriend loved it.

Been here multiple times since finding it on a local food forum unique sushi rolls, really well prepared old standbys and some of the best fried chicken in Nanaimo! The platters are excellent value for money I d highly recommend trying them out!

Raw prawns and food poisoning! Hair in soup Poison control! Do not eat from this place I ordered a dynamite roll which has prawns that should be cooked. It smelled like old fish which it shouldnt I ate a couple because I hadnt eaten all day but I then realized it was tasted off. I looked inside and it was slimy and grey. I phoned them and they laughed at me and said sushi is supposed to be raw. I called poison control and they said that I have to monitor my symptoms because you cannot eat raw prawns! I threw up 3 times and have stomach aches. I will be reporting them they shouldnt get away with intentionally leaving prawns raw. Just because I was the last order of the night they just send me away with hair in my friends soup and raw old prawns

The food was excellent. And the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. We had the Sweet Soy Chicken which is absolutely incredible. The crunchiest chicken we have ever had and by far the best tasting. Do not leave without trying it!! We also had their Dynomite Rolls, which my mother who is not a Sushi lover, went to town on them. We tried their Yuba Sushi Beef Teriyaki, while there was nothing wrong with it, not something I would have a again. Last but not least was the assorted Tempura, 3 pieces of 4 different Tempura, yam, zucchini, prawns and acorn squash. All excellent. And we will definitely return!!

Tried their food for the firs time this week. Absolutely delicious fried chicken, we tried the classic and sweet soy, both were fantastic. They have a variety of sushi rolls which were quite good definitely recommend the Yubu sushi, interesting and really good. Will definitely be ordering again.

The poke bowl was delicious and the staff seemed super nice

first time to try this restaurant. The exquisite food really amazed me. The creamy texture of salmon and avocado in the salad, with sweet and sour cherry tomatoes, is very appetizing and delicious. The presentation of the dishes is very exquisite. Highly recommended!

Amazing food amazing staff at a great deal!! There chicken is amazing and the sushi was fresh and delicious

We ordered fried soy chicken and it was still bloody. Price was also quite higher than average restaurants in Nanaimo. I like the poke bowl, it tasted the best in my order however the portion of poke bowl is not justifiable for the price.

Fantastic small business and fair prices! I got the tuna poke bowl and left feeling comfortably full! We definitely plan to come back :)
