I m pretty positive that they changed the chef. Food tastes different now, not much of a Thai restaurant , more of an Asian fusion

DO NOT GO HERE. Ill start with the only positive, which is what drew us in. The atmosphere is OK as the space is decorated and theres a cool tree growing in the center of it. But thats the end of the positives. Negatives: The waiter was unhelpful in choosing a dish and spent the majority of his time up at the bar staring at his laptop. Each of us needed something once our plates were served, but he didnt acknowledge that. We gave up trying to tear him away from his laptop. The food was very boring and bland. Ive had better store-bought thai dishes. The rice was overcooked. My dinner companions said the same of their dishes. The bathroom was FILTHY. The door to get into the bathroom was sticky and stained. The inside of the bathroom was run down and there are streaks of yellow and brown filth on the walls and the bathroom stalls. It had obviously been neglected for many months if not years. The toilets were poorly maintained, as was everything else. I left the bathroom gagging. I lost my appetite. I will never go back. A terrible first (and last) time experience.

If your waiter doesn t ask you how much heat you want make sure you tell them how much you want as mine didn t and my meal was very bland actually tasteless staff need to be on the same page better communication with the chef other than that could have been a good lunch wish I had the waiter on the next table as he did ask a little late for me big disappointment .

I ate here for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it was delicious so I came back! The service is friendly and helpful. The food delicious with gluten free options. The atmosphere is unique and inviting with alot of natural light plants. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options Parking: 2 hour street parking, free after 5pm.

Very much enjoyed my meal there tonight. Massaman curry and a Singha beer. Im sure to go back and try some of their other dishes.

I think Nanaimo people like bland food.... 90% of the restaurants here in Nanaimo are a real joke how these 2x more expensive and tasteless. I would have been ashamed to serve this to my own dog My boyfriends pad thai noodles were extremely overcooked. I got sick 20 minutes after leaving the restaurant In short, I will never return to this restaurant No one came to ask me if the food was to my taste The waiter barely speaks and understands English The service was not good Go somewhere else

I come here every time I am visiting Vancouver Island. I love the food here. The seating is a simple layout and the restaurant is always the perfect amount of busy at dinner time. The Pad Thai and Cashew Chicken Stir Fry are my favourites.

Ordered takeout from here once. It was extremely bland despite asking for it to be spicy. I guess the locals love bland food thats how they must be so busy all the time. But to those expecting rich Thai flavors stay away is my best suggestion.

Favourite restaurant in Nanaimo and best Thai food outside of Thailand weve had. Their restaurant feels like a jungle with lots of house plants and a full grown tree. Love the atmosphere. Owners are also very personable and hospitable.

The food was excellent, the service was prompt and friendly. We do not know a lot about Thai food, they took interest in our heat factor in the food. My girl likes it super mild and I like mine medium. She was very happy with the amount of heat in her meal, as was I.

I love curry, I was in town so I wanted to try this place. I ordered the Red Curry. Flavour was good, a little sweet. Unfortunately it lacked spice completely, despite sporting a 2 out of 3 spice level on the menu. I responded with medium when the waiter asked how I liked it. Unfortunately this didnt even qualify for mild imo. The curry also lacked substance. It was very watery and was difficult to eat with the rice. I ended up dropping the rice into the curry, which I would normally not do, and ate it kinda like a soup... Strange. The service was nice and friendly and the place is spotless. I dont think Ill be coming back tho, cheers

I am an individual who have lived in Thailand and many other places in the world with different variations of Thai cuisine. To get straight to the point, except for the food everything is great. The atmosphere is great but, the food was not worth the price and very poorly made. It is just bit better than a Thai instant cup noodle. (I ordered two dishes and tossed one after a few bites.) When you pay $18 for each dish, you would expect at least something similar to the original food. I dont know who (it says local guide) these people are in the reviews giving 5 starts and saying its a very good Thai food place but, I can guarantee anybody who had some proper experience with Thai food will not say its a 5 star food. (I would have given a 5 star even if it gave me a scent of Thailand.) I am leaving this review so either they can fix the food and I can enjoy some great Thai food on the island or hoping not another person get fooled. Thx for reading.

Ordered 2 orders of rice and got 2 scoops of rice. Don t order from this place on skip or door dash. They will skimp on your order.

The portion of meat is kinda small

Had a wonderful yellow curry and jasmine tea. Lovely atmosphere and polite and helpful staff. Nice portion for a good price and super good flavour.

My gal and I arrived right at closing Tuesday night. We were accommodated and fed one night the best Thai meals we ever had. The food was so good that we returned for lunch the next day. The green curry and the black pepper and ginger stir fry were amazing and mouth watering. We will definitely be back to this amazing family run establishment.

I had the best Tom Yum soup I have ever had here. Wonderful flavors that make you feel like youre wrapped up in a warm bundle and having a lullaby sung to you. I highly recommend!

Excellent food and service

Its a beautiful place with a nice homely vibe. Lots of natural light coming in from the skylight and the plants bring in a lovely feel to the restaurant. I was seated promptly. I had the green curry lunch combo and it was more than enough for one person! Came with curry, rice, a spring roll and salad! The green curry itself is super flavourful with all the right ingredients and the jasmine rice is delicious. Looking forward to more visits to this wonderful restaurant!

Incredible food, really decent prices, and wonderful service. In the summer the entire front wall of the restaurant can be rolled up. Eating spicy Thai food in a light breeze is a special kind of perfection. Wheelchair accessibility: Street level, lots of room inside. I always bring my son in his wheelchair and it is easy to accomodate him at almost all of the tables.

The worst Thai restaurant Ive ever went. The stir fried beef with basil was so tough and dry. All the dishes lacked its Thai authenticity. What a disappointment! I hope goggle will update the star rating for this restaurant so as not to fool other costumers.

Really enjoy the actual building and overall vibe of the place. But the food was mediocre at best. The beef was low quality and tough. The noodles felt lacking in sauce. I got level spice and it was not spicy at all so if you want nose running spice, opt for the Service was particularly slow. There were two wait staff and maybe 6 tables that had people to them. It took us 15 minutes to get water and menus. Another 20 minutes for them to take our order, and when we were obviously done with our good we waited 20 minutes before going to the bar and asking got our bill. The prices are okay. The Thai iced tea was good. Was hoping for better as weve been here years prior and not had a bad experience.

I went into this restaurant with average expectations based on the reviews. I was having a craving for Thai food and thought this would satisfy that. Well boy was I wrong. Cool place, nice seating with the doors rolled up, but that s where it ends! Ordered springs rolls, oily and there was really hard pieces inside almost like finger nail clippings. And the Drunken Noodles, the chef must have been drunk, because there was zero flavour and these where like boiled noodles with bland chicken and uncooked veggies. It s like they forgot to actually cook the dish. So I sent that back and thought, since I am starving, to order the Thai Fried Rice. Well that was just as bad as the noodle dish, zero flavour, weird smell and the egg in the dish might as well just have been served on top of the rice, it was not diced up and mixed in at all, and the same bland chicken. I tried to stomach as much as I could, then asked for the bill. Oh by the way, the lady there saw I sent back the noodles and said maybe you should come back Wednesday or Thursday when I am cooking ..really!! No apology, no nothing! So back to the bill, I was given the bill and the had the nerve to still charge me for the noodles. I asked them to remove it and the young guy said I will ask the kitchen, but they will say no, because they made it and will lose money on the dish . Oh boy, that was it, I was about to just walk out, but decided to pay for my meal, minus the noodles! Please, do not waste your time or money at this restaurant, it is trash and they have no clue what flavour is, unless it s Wednesday or Thursday when the lady is cooking. I gave the atmosphere a 1 star because of the overall experience!

Food here was SO good, and so many vegan options! I enjoyed the pad Thai with vegetables, and it was a generous portion that was super tasty. My partner had the yellow curry, vegan, and it was also fantastic. They were a little understaffed for a busy weekend lunch, but the gentlemen there were very helpful and kind when we asked about the vegan menu. We were seated after a ten minute wait or so--not bad for peak tourist season! Prices were reasonable for the portions given. Atmosphere is very nice with open windows to the street and plenty of thai-themed decoration. Would not hesitate to recommend this spot! Vegetarian options: Vegan and gluten free options available! Nice decor, friendly staff but We ordered pad Thai with beef and without eggs and Tom yum soup with shrimps and medium heat and spring rolls. We got two completely wrong dishes that were taken back to the kitchen to be brought back by a different server asking again if this is what we ordered and again, we explained what we ordered, they took it back to the kitchen and finally figured out it s one of the other far tables that ordered them. Later in the evening, we got our order: Pad Thai with tasteless beef and WITH eggs, which isn t what we ordered. Tom yum soup no heat and probably two pieces of shrimps and tasteless. Everything was tasteless. We only ate the spring rolls which were okish. Paid and left. We were offered to take the items off the payment but we paid full with tip because we felt bad for the servers. We know Thai food from Thailand and other countries. This does not represent Thai food at all in our opinion. We really wanted to like the food and come again but unfortunately as other reviewers said, food doesn t taste good and it isn t real Thai.

A late but much-needed one star. If youre going to do an unscheduled closure, you need to inform your customers. A snowy night on Valentines Day, only to find the restaurant closed, is no joke. Wouldnt recommend.

There are plenty of seats so there is almost no need to wait. As for the food, if you order curry, you have to choose the type of meat (chicken, beef) - Green Curry Chicken $16.75: I don t know why it s so green The taste is not bad, it has a strong coconut flavor, and there are bamboo shoots and bell peppers. There isn t much chicken. The spring rolls on the side are delicious! The salad dressing is also coconut-based, which is very special. - Panaeung Curry Cow $16.95: Love it! This peanut flavor is very strong, very similar to sesame paste~ There is also a lot of beef, but it is a bit old, but this sauce is really a rice killer, super delicious Overall, I will visit again ~ delicious food and nice environment

Had the pad Thai with prawns. It was very good. I wish it had more variety ad well as quantity for vegees but it was a filling meal. I would say the quality of service is quite poor, so dont come there expecting attentive servers. Knowing that, I would come here again

Had the Guay Tiew Noodle Soup for a quick lunch before heading back to the mainland and was pleasantly surprised. It was homemade-like and was very comforting for the homesick travelers on the island.

Alright overall, the type of rice noodles are the same youd buy from any store, and the pad kee mao didnt have much oyster flavor (nor home-made noodles), but the soups had a nice base.

My favorite Thai restaurant for pad thai! Great restaurant to dine or order on skip. But if you order on their website you get a free spring roll. During a sunny day the restaurant windows are opened to the street which I love for a lunch special.

Tasty Thai food good size portion soup salad spring roll and stir fry as a lunch combo. The soup was not great but the rest was very good. I will be back also the staff is very friendly.

The staff were lovely and that s the best I can say about it it was cold in there and there was no heat in the bathroom We asked for medium hotness and our food didn t taste like it was spiced at all. The meal reminded us of something out of a package. We won t be returning

One of the best papaya salads in Canada. They always make it for us at lunch time even though it s not on the menu. Beautiful building with sky lights and a view of the main drag. Service is aces. Love this spot. Keep up the great work and see you next time we re on the island!

Their thai coconut chicken soup was tasty, but I cannot say the same thing about their spring rolls. If you are spring rolls lover, better do not try them here. Their prices are ok, but on the steep side. Their staff is friendly.

Ok so, first off we placed order through skip. The pineapple comes with tofu so we bought the prawns and asked for the tofu on the side, they held our order for an hour and a half before we called and asked what was happening and they said there would be a $4 up charge for the tofu !?? Wow ! Then asked for noodles instead of rice for the red Thai curry and they said another you charge of $2.50 !! We finally get our order after 2 hours and I see why, the rice was a cold dry clump ( who screws up rice ? ), and barely ANY red curry sauce. Last time ordering from here, cash grab

Honestly, huge let down. The service was not good and I got food poisoning so I won t be back. We went for dinner, we were the only one there s. We were told to sit wherever we like (super, thank you) but then the young guy never came to give us menus after waiting for awhile so I went to get them for us. I read a discrepancy on the menu was really craving Tom Yum Soup with rice. Menu says WITH chicken or prawns, I don t eat chicken so I would have selected prawns except it says with prawns $3.75 ! This combo would have cost me well over $20. I explained how it says WITH chicken or prawns so I should be able to pick one of those options for no additional cost. The fellow was flustered with my query and finally suggested vegetables, to which thank you yes that is helpful but definitely could have been shared previous to the attitude. The rice was good, the soup was a disappointment. And I got food poisoning from the soup somehow! My stomach has been off since eating there last night so I m not sure what was in the soup but it did smell fishy and taste a little off. The server didn t offer us dessert, only just gave us the bill which had a get the eff out vibe to it. He felt young and inexperienced I get that serving can be challenging with peoples dietary restrictions and such but it s important to be able to offer substitutes and to be kind about it. There are plenty of great spots to eat, I just wouldn t recommend dining in here or getting the rip off Tom yum soup! It is not an expensive dish to make and was very over priced for what it is shame.

First time trying, highly rated so expected authentic Thai deliciousness ~ Lovely decor & service, was busy at lunch time. Ordered from lunchtime menu as required & found both our dishes (including spring rolls & sauce) mediocre. Adding their hot sauce helped. Soup that came with lunch was unique & excellent, salad was simple & tasty dressing.

Most of what we ordered was inedible. I love Thai food and this is NOT Thai food. I ordered a dish that is supposed to be a spicy, flavourful and saucy noodle dish full of basil. What I got was a pile of overcooked white noodles, no sauce, no flavour covered in wads of wilted basil. I dont know how they get the beef to be that texture but they should really knock it off.

Best Thai Ive ever hae, spice was actually satisfyingly hot and service was excellent!

We started our feast with the Tom Ka soup and honestly thats the best soup I ever had! It was a rich creamy Thai soup. The Tom Yum soup has good as well. The prawn wontons were good. However the chicken satay over here was really dissapointing. It felt like the I was having boiled chicken with some yellow color sprinkled on it. It didnt have any glazed sauce over it as well. The peanut dipping sauce for the satay was pretty good though. We had a red prawn curry, that was really good! Lastly we had the beef Sukkho noodles which was not that good. All in all I had mixed experience. This is definitely a great place for Thai style soups!

Told the server I was gluten free. Server says no problem. Bring bowls of clear soup for the whole table. Later the hostess spots the empty bowl of soup in front of me and says that if Im gluten free, I shouldnt have had the soup. Great. These next five days of diarrhea brought to you by Sukkho Thai. The Red Curry was good anyway.

This place is very nice. We sat near the outside, definitely good ventilation. Very good Thai food. We had the Tom Yum soup, it was delicious. The appy sampler has a good variety. The coconut rice was my favourite! My daughter loved the pad Thai. Not spicy, good choice for children. Definitely will visit again when we go to the island next time.

My dad and I were passing through Nanaimo as we were touring the island. We decided to walk around downtown and stumbled upon Sukkhothai. Immediately upon entering we were pleasantly surprised by the decor. We were delighted to be served by Taya, who we got to know quite well. She was a blast to dine with, engaging us with her sharp sense of humour and ensuring we were fully satisfied. I asked her to select a vegan dish for me, which did not disappoint. When she brought it out, she had told me that not many people order it but it is one of her favorites. I could not have been more pleased. The dish could only be described as sapid. One of the best Thai meals I had the entire time I was on the island. Taya was an excellent server and we even learned that she is an aspiring writer. If her works are half as good as the food was, she will certainly be a best selling author.

Red Curry: lacked thai flavours, overly sweet, thin like coconut curry soup. House Fried Rice: overcooked rice that someone mixed crushed tomatoes in for the purest slop-like effect. Pineapple Fried Rice: overcooked rice with curry powder. The only vegetables you will find here are bell peppers, bamboo shoots, and carrots. Inedible. Management could also be refined as 2/3 dishes came out incorrect and staff seem as though theyve never dealt with blips.

I worked in Thailand for 25 years so have all kinds of Thai food. This restaurant is the closest to real Thai food that I have found in Nanaimo. Staff were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Was just delivered Pad Thai, it tasted and had the consistency of being a 4 day old re-heat. The noodles were complete much and just fell apart. 1st time ordering, and the last time. Disgusting.

Best take out Ive had in Nanaimo. Just ordered the pad prik king which I thought was the standout dish from everything I have tried absolutely delicious! My only criticism is that the Penang and Green Curry could be a little thicker and a little more aromatic but both were still more than acceptable! I will continue returning here and would recommend to others

We had a GREAT experience here, service was outstanding and great value for some BIG plates of amazing food! Definitely recommend a visit, but double check the hours that youre planning on going as they are only open for a small lunch window and then again for a dinner window.

it was ok... my order was Yum Wun Sen 13.75 Glass noodles with prawns, green onion, carrot, cilantro and peanuts in a spicy citrus dressing There were no peanuts and at least half of a RAW white onion coarsely chopped and thrown in with it..as well as the green onion. half the dish was raw white onion. Which wasnt even in the item description . On the plus side the was 5 big prawns in it and the flavor was good once all the massive chunks of oniom were picked out.

I was hesitant to order pad Thai due to its dull looks, I gave it a try and it was good. Turns out all the sauce drains to the bottom, give it a good mix and youre good! Good service. This was during covid so the restaurant was empty but in inside looks like a nice place to dine in.

Pad thai was excellent

I missed my Ferry and I ended up going to Thai dinner it was delicious the green curry is what I had with prawns. I havent had a nice green curry since I was in Thailand. I would recommend highly.

Sorry but this doesn t qualify as good Thai food. The thick peanut sauce looked like it was ladled on from a jar. Under the bland vegetables was a runny sauce. Very disappointed.

One of the best Thai restaurants I have every been too (although there aremany good ones). The best Pad Thai I have ever had. I, and my guests, have not been disappointed by any dishes thus far.

This small restaurant deserves 5 stars, I think. But the server was sadly inattentive. A rich and varied menu impressed my party of 5. The cashew chicken was excellent and was as hot as I had ordered. Prices are reasonable and the food arrived promptly too. If you like Thai food, or just want to give it a try, then this place is for you. Apparently phoning ahead for takeout is fast too.

We were visiting for a few days and decided to meet up with my friend who lives in Nanaimo. She suggested Sukkhothai. We shared the chicken satay, egg rolls, pad thai, pineapple curry and a side of coconut rice. It was extremely delicious and we left very satisfied. The service was just okay; there was a bit of a language barrier, but our food came quickly

My friend and I are traveling through the West of Canada. On the way to Tofino we stayed in Nanaimo for one night and searched for a good Dinner place. We found the Sukkho Thai. I ordered a Soup (I got a huuuuuge bowl) and chicken with peanuts. My friend ordered Siamese Spring Rolls (she got 4 pieces) and spicy beef. Everything was nicely decorated, well cooked and very, very tasty. This was so far the best food we had in West Canada on our trip. Dont forget the service which was fast and friendly. Well done

Im looking forward to trying this place again. My fiancé and I came during restaurant week and were limited to vegetarian choices because of it being a Friday in Lent. The best parts of our meals were the fresh and fried spring rolls and mango-inspired desserts. The vegetables in our stir fry were cooked to just the right amount.
