First and last time at this establishment. I had went off of their (not updated) photo of the prices and ordered a Dinner for 6 which was around $65.00 and I paid $107.00…Plus on top of that did not get what I had ordered which were the spare ribs. Very upset by my first impression.
Ordered from here by phone after looking at the menu posted online. Dinner for 2 listed at $21.50 on the menu online only to show up and be told it is actually $39.55 plus tax and asked for tip in addition, they never update their online information. Furthermore the food was bland, the chicken was a sandy texture like it was a freezer meal, and the "chicken chow mein" was actually bean sprouts with more peices of the same bland, gritty chicken bathing in broth. Only reason it's not getting 1 star is because it was well packaged and the one who took my order over the phone was polite and kind, a stark difference from who was taking payment once I went inside.
I've been ordering from new York for 20 yrs , my wife for 40 yrs , the amazing egg rolls were the draw , for my birthday we ordered 115$ worth of food from our favorite local restaurant to only be very disappointed by our experience after yrs of loyalty. The egg roles were 100% cabbage filled, we ordered 8 at 3$ each , all were cabbage filled no bean sprouts, we stopped in the next day to address the issue, we talked to a staff member and addressed the issue with her, she was nothing but rude and disrespectful and said , it's the luck of the draw if you get the right ingredients and there was nothing she could do about it , we asked if the owner could call us , she said yes and that he would be in later in the day and will call you later the same day, after taking our information , he never called , avoid this place at all cost, if you want quality and good service go elsewhere.
We just did take out for the first-time there. Very busy place. Wait time was not bad considering how busy they were. Food was pretty good. The beef with vegetables needs work. Beef wasn't great for what there was of it. The rest of the food was very excellent. Staff friendly. Will definitely order again from here. The menu shown on the page was outdated, so I posted a newer updated one. The prices definitely have changed.
I ordered their dinner for 2 set and it includes 2 egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken chow mein and chicken fried rice. Overall the taste was Ok but I am extremely shocked to find my chicken CHOW MEIN to be just stir fry bean sprouts with chicken. I thought it was a mistake and I called to verify. To my surprise they told me chicken chow mein is just bean sprouts with chicken. I said why would they name it chow mein?? Why not just call it bean sprouts and chicken? She then say in Canada, chicken chow mein is just bean sprouts and chicken! No is not! We live in BC and Toronto all our lives and when we order chow mein it is NOODLES!!
The food is good, but prices have gone up 60-70% compared to their menu on Google. Completely outrageous pricing. 3$per egg roll. 15$ per item. $85 for 3.5 people.
Pleasantly surprised! I lived in an Asian part of Toronto for most of my life, so I am used to great Chinese food. Not expecting much as it’s Napanee, and the reviews were a bit mixed, but everything we ordered was as good as we’ve had it. The lemon chicken and chicken balls were soggy, but still tasted great. I would recommend finding a different way of packaging that didn’t steam them afterwards. Quirky place but amazingly good food.
I've been going to this place for 25+ years and it's still the best around. It set my standard for Chinese food. I live in Kingston and this is still my go to place when I'm passing through. It's worth the wait between visits!! Nowhere else locally comes close to being so delicious. Hadn't been there for quite a few years (5+) and after all the years, it didn't disappoint. Dine in was always my preference though the takeout was decent. I like the basics--egg roll, sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken fried rice and chow mein.

Just finished eating our takeout food and all I can say is wow! Everything was delicious and freshly prepared and was ready for pickup at our scheduled time. Highly recommended but unfortunately there is no dine in.

This restaurants food varies greatly depending on when you go visit. Sometimes it is nice and other times it is just plain terrible. I am not sure if they have more than one cook in there or what. It is very frustrating not knowing what you are going to get, so I have chosen to take my business elsewhere. It is such a shame because this place is one of the old-style, classic cantonese restaurants that has such ambiance, such nostalgia and such truly wonderful staff that missing its potential is how so many local restaurants like it kept closing their doors. Please figure out how to be consistently good and I will try again. I am rooting for you and have faith in you that you can do this! One more thing - Google Maps has you listed as serving dim sum. You dont actually have any, so please correct your listing or serve dim sum please.

This is a great little Chinese restaurant in the heart of Napanee. The food is always great. Staff are always really nice. The only issue I have is that it is takeout only.

Chow mein is described online as fried egg noodles. The dish consisted of mainly bean sprouts. It was ok, but wasnt what we ordered. Others of our family got lemon chicken and they said they liked it. Very old (non digital) credit card machine. Really weird, total antique, but kinda cool? I like their wallpaper. Little weird they had DVDs for sale XD Does not specify it is chinese food on the sign or door - kinda funny. Overall not the best or worst but allright.

We have lived in Bath for 15 years, tonight was our first night ordering from New York Cafe a short distance away in Napanee. It was fantastic!!!!! Loads of mixed veggies, dishes had great taste and chicken balls were tender and REAL chicken. Nice to support local and want to order again. Great job!

I am new to Napanee and I ordered food from the New York cafe here on New Year s day cause they were fully booked for the Eve before which I think is a promise for good food to come. I wasn t disappointed either. Our food was hot, plentiful and tasty! What more could I want want?
Excellent food and service
It was fantastic chinese food and prices. The best guy ding with veggies Ive ever had!!! Egg rols had a delicious light raste to them, fried rice and meatballs were great. only downside (which is oretty standard for tale out) is the plum sauce is prepackaged (so rather than deljcious like the red sauce, it was just okay).

My go to Chinese restaurant! Great food, good prices and friendly staff. I live the beef and broc.. even though Im really picky about sauces uses. Its a very light soya sauce taste broccoli is always cooked to protection. Been going here for 15 years

First time take out at this restaurant. S&S shrimp, plump and big, mmmmm Garlic spareribs were good. Moo Goo Guy Pan Beef fried rice tasty but next time chicken. Egg Rolls tasty. Well be back! Forgot to mention we had to travel a distance so had to reheat in the microwave. It was delicious 2 hours after pickup....

Absolutely the best possible Authentic Chinese Food on this planet. Its a piece of Heaven right in downtown Napanee, Ontario. The Staff are all family & very friendly...They never forget anyone...The schezwan chicken, egg rolls, almond chicken, chicken balls, real fried rice, the best bbq pork lo mein...every possible item on the menu is out of this world delicious...I have been eating at New York Cafe 55 years...I will never eat Chinese Anywhere else
WOW!! I went there because of the reviews but I couldnt believe the garbage that was served!! My sister spent $140 for about 7 dishes. The rice was burnt, the breaded pork was chicken, the breading on all dishes was horrible tasting, the chow mein was just bean sprouts, mostly dry and without taste, the spare ribs were ordered without sauce but they said no which leads me to think it was pre-made, and the Shanghai noodles had sliced lunch meat ham. If I had bought this, I would have taken it all back and asked for my money back!! I dont understand the difference between the reviews and what was served. Horrible horrible food!! Leá Love

Honestly, I have only had the chinese food there. Flavour wise it was really good. Price to portion wise, not so much. The staff are nice and the place is clean. Dated, but clean. I give it 3 1/2 stars because portions are an issue.

Mixed review. Ive had much better chinese for the same price. Most was palatable but just okay. The service was a bit slow but quite pleasant. I will highlight that the chicken balls taste and texture were the best I have ever had and I liked the fried rice. I would go again and just order a big batch of those two next time.

I havent eaten Canadian Chinese in a long time. Ordered for pick up this past weekend with my family. This hit the spot, I had been craving it all week. Ive eaten most of the menu from when I was a kid to now. Everything is exceptional, I know its not fancy or traditional Chinese. But its good.

Take out is super popular, so phone ahead if you can to avoid a long wait. But its worth the wait: we had pork chops mein, Singapore noodles, Szechuan chicken and chicken balls: all of it was great. Nice flavours and no greasy after taste. Really nice Chinese dinner.

Pretty tasty Chinese food for a small town. Good for when you are feeling lazy on a Friday and dont feel like anything fussy. Takeout is the way to go, as the atmosphere of the place is a little dated. Staff are super friendly and accommodating however, and the food is always hot. They do not take debit.

Disgusting food. It would be insulting to call it Chinese and i did not see any Chinese people there only a rude white woman who had no clue what she was serving. Beef brocoli was a joke; a full serving of brocoli stems and no meat. Atrocious.

We ordered one of the Dinner for 3 combos, and I dont remember the name of the chicken dish, but it turned out to be battered chicken in a brown gravy that quickly congealed into jelly. Everything else was OK. The service was good, and the decor was vintage. Check out the lunch counter!
