Excellent as always and the new owners are keeping up the standards that the original owners established. Update: My wife and I just had dinner tonight and it was the worst experience we have had at this place. Our food was cold and I witnessed it sitting on the counter for over 5mins before the server finally brought it to our table. There was a large group of at least 12 people being served prior to us so I understand the longer wait times but there was no excuse for the cold plates of Halibut and fries as they could have been brought to our table faster. In all fairness, the food was cooked well, just cold and they did bring in another server as we were leaving.

Just moved into the area and finally a good fish and chip shop in the neighborhood.

Decent fish & chips

Fish and Onion Rings are so good.

We were with friends and it was suggested to us to go to this place. One thing to say, dont be fooled by the exterior of the building as it does not reflect the food offered! The interior might need a refresh because it looks like an old restaurant from the 80s and 90s. However, in terms of food, I opted for fish n chips. A very good portion was offered to me with homemade felts and a little cabbage room. The fish is excellent and the fries cooked to perfection. All for a very reasonable price. I dont regret going there!

This is not right, this restaurant does advertise home made French fries its not right that they dont even have it ,I rather go to A&W across the street to get some food they are lucky my husband likes there food this time, its mostly greasy and not right , just saying and pissed off , and not even talking about phone service they cant speak English! I have been here too many times, and I hope next time its A&W

Walked in 42 degree weather from the truck stop only to get there and find out they are closed on Mondays. You need to update your hours on google. Disappointed.

**REVISED February 2024 - An ownership change has brought this place way down. Corners have been cut everywhere until it its just another mediocre eatery. A crying shame This one of very few restaurants I was concerned about making it through the lockdowns, and boy am I happy to see the cars in the parking lot again when I drive by. We have eaten here probably 10 times a year for the last 15-16 years, and it is everything you expect from a local family-owned community restaurant - great fish & chips, immaculately clean interior and mature career servers. There is an extensive menu but I can only speak to the Fish & Chips - theres no reason to even consider anywhere else. Lets put it this way - One is widely considered an expert at a task after completing 10,000 repetitions. It wouldnt surprise me to learn these folks have put out hundreds of thousands of orders in the years they have been here. Certain local establishments become institutions for a reason.

Drive a little bit past all the big burger chains to a quality, family run fish and chips place. Big servings of fish, excellent chops

Everyone has been raving about how good their fish snd chips are so we tried the Haddock, chips and coleslaw which was delicious!!! Nice white tasty fish, lots of chips and coleslaw was the best we have ever had. We will definitely be eating there again.

Pretty good fish and chips. Had the Halibut with Fries. Fish cooked perfectly, crispy, not oily. Fries weren t bad though needed a bit of work. Bit on the pricey side at $22 but what s cheap these days. Have eaten there several times and have not been disappointed.

My dad is a Fish N Chip junkie so we treated him for an early fathers day dinner. They make a mean fish n chips healthy portions and both the fish and the fries were nice and crispy. I do wish the cost to add a second piece of fish wasn t so high ($12-16) or I would have tried both the haddock and halibut. The Gravy is outstanding, it has a nice roast beef flavour to it and would make for a mean hot roast beef or hot hamburger sandwich. Maybe next time. I m not much of a tartar sauce fan but my wife said it tasted home made and heavy on the pickle side. She also really liked the slaw. (Vinegar base not mayo) The waitress was extremely friendly and her vibe matched the old school mom and pop atmosphere. Fish and chips cooked at a lower temp that allowed the batter to absorb the oil and leave the fries limp. The service was great but I found the food quite greasy.

Its an awesome place to stop by if youre looking for some fish and chips. We ordered two halibut dinners, and the portions were very generous. The price was reasonable for the amount of food received. We would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner as a solid place for fish dinners or various kinds.

Live in Kingston but any time we are near Napanee always stop off for fish and chips. Good sized portions and fair price. Coulslaw is very good nice cabbage carrots etc without all the goupy mayo that many places have Food

My husband and I usually go to Napanee Fish and chips but it was full so we thought why not. We hadn t been to Mr Chips in years. Well we won t be going back. The fish was greasy and tough. Very dense fish for haddock. Fries were greasy. Gravy was old. Coleslaw was so vinegary we couldn t eat it. We left most of our dinner on the plate The waitress couldn t get our bill to us quick enough. Needless to say we will never ever go back there.

We were there tonight and our meals were fabulous, the halibut was cooked perfect, not greasy, and the fries were excellent, the gravy could ve been a little warmer and the coleslaw was to die for. We will be back.

New owners are not keeping up the quality that the old owners made a good name for.

Stopped off at this point looking little Mom and Pop Shop on the way from Ottawa to Toronto. Food was absolutely wonderful service with some of the friendliest Ive ever experienced, and the prices or also great. Will definitely be on the itinerary every time we drive to Toronto. My only complaint is it is too far to bus to more regularly Parking: Parking is ample and free

Heard so much about this place so went Friday night. Service was great (only 2 servers and they were both friendly and really hopping!). Unfortunately the food was NOT good. Fish was average at best and my fries were horrible. Obviously reheated, dried out little terrible fries. Best part was my starter salad. But at a place called fish and chips the salad shouldnt be the best part.

I bragged about how good a restaurant this was and took friends from the US there, I had not been since pre-Covid. What a major disappointment! New owners ..fish was not fresh. I have never had a piece of halibut that was rectangular, my guests had the same shaped fish. Obviously it was not fresh and just taken out of the freezer and thrown into the deep fryer, chips were obviously something you buy frozen from a grocery store and cook at home. Will definitely not go back or recommend. Will the real Mr. Chips please come back

Dont know whats going on its usually really good. But last couple of times halibut is half the size and now they changed the gravy and not for the better

There are only two fish & chips restaurants in Napanee. Mr. Chips is the better of the two. But, Spuds f & chips are excellent during their once a week f & chips day.

Excellent fish combo platter! I had the Captains Platter with large piece if haddock, scallops, shrimp, and clam strips. Ordered a Cesar salad instead of the fries and it was half the plate and delicious. Definitely a place to visit if in areas.

Was in on Mothers day and was not pleased with the haddock. The batter was hard and the fish was very dry. Chips and coleslaw were good. When I was paying the bill I noticed the cook taking a piece of cooked haddock out of a warming oven rather than fresh from the fryers to make up a plate. That is probably why my fish was hard and dry.

Get there early enough to avoid it being very busy. We were leaving around 5 when it started to get busy. Plenty of food on the plates. Fish and home made chips dinner was superb! First time going and wont be our last.

Heard so many great things about this place, I finally checked it out....how disappointing I must say!!! I just ordered halibut dinner for two with one side of gravy for takeout. The size of the side gravy was in the same size container of the tarter sauce! Paid $47.....just ridiculous and maddening as the price on the menu differs from what I got ripped off!!!! Will definitely never be back

Dont be fooled by the exterior of the restaurant. What a great discovery! I ordered a beer and the glass was kept in the fridge (nice touch!!). I then had a bacon cheeseburger with fries. Excellent burger, generous portion of fries and very good. If I come back to Napanee I will return to this restaurant.

We arrived on Aug 19 for the 2022 Geocaching Mega Event and stayed at the Mastersons Motel. We had dinner at Mr. Chips on Friday Night and Sunday Night. We had a fantastic Fish and Chips dinner on Friday, and a Very Fabulous steak dinner on Sunday. The steak dinner came with a large salad, roll, fries/potatoes, and vegetables at a low price we have not seen in a long time. We had a very fabulous waitress for both nights, super friendly and fun. We also got 10% off for staying at the motel. Highly recommend, and when we are back next year, we will eat there again. Great Job at a great price. Best prices we have seen. The place always seems to be very busy but fast turnaround.

The quality and portion size of the admiral platter was exceptional. The staff are very welcoming and they provided the highest level of customer service. The butter tarts are unlike anything Ive ever had before. If youre ever going through Napanee, I would highly recommend you check out this place.

Outstanding quality fish and chips! More importantly, youre getting an experience. Friendly and down to earth staff. Vinegar packets at front counter so no shortage of that. Halibut was fried crispy while being juicy and flaky. We got the Admiral Platter which was quite alot for two of us - could comfortably be for 3 people. Came with shrimp, clams and scallops in addition to a large piece of fish. Fries, coleslaw, tartar sauce, lemon wedges, spicy marinara sauce and bread roll with whipped butter. They also gave us butter tarts I can only describe as divine. Very charming place, thanks for the memory and the flavours!

We drive over 60km at least once a month to eat here. They are, hands down, the best fish and chips between Toronto and Ottawa, maybe even further. No over-battered, miniscule pieces of fish here. No frozen french fries either. If you like fresh cut french fries and perfectly cooked, thinly battered fish (come on, your mouth is watering right now, isnt it?), then this is the place for you. I cannot eat fish and chips anywhere else, because Mr. Chips has spoiled every other place for me. Dont forget, either, that this place is a local gem, not some tired franchise. You get great service from friendly people, in a comfortable atmosphere. Now its true that we go quite a bit, but the staff remember us and our orders, and make us feel welcome every time.

Wow. Ok, so I ve been craving fish and chips for a while - so much so that I bought it two days in a row. I haven t tried any fish and chips in Napanee, so I looked up what the best place was, and Mr. Chips caught my eye, but DARN, they re closed Mondays. No matter, i still wanted fish and chips so I bought from the other big fish place in town. Now, I m a Newfoundlander, so i know my fish, and I was quite impressed with them! They were pretty good. Then I tried MR. CHIPS! Even though I had just bought a feed of fish and chips yesterday , I thought I d try the competition. All I can say is WOW! I don t know what their secret is, but their fish is the best I ve had in ages. Perfect batter (crispy, but not too thick), fish cooked to perfection , and the price was unbeatable. Best in the area, including Kingston. I will be coming back. Excellent work, Mr Chips , excellent work.

Disappointing take out. This has always been our go-to fish and chips place when travelling back and forth to Kingston. Portions of halibut and chips always had been exceptional. Recent visit was for take out and was a huge let down. Halibut pieces were very thin and looked much larger due to them being hidden in an over abundance of batter. Some of the staff looked new, menu prices seemed to have gone up since our previous visit a few months before. Maybe they no longer take any pride in their take out meals because they know folks will be eating away from the restaurant and unable to complain. Anyway, it will have to be dine-in, full service, before we are willing to give them another chance to earn our business back.

Great french fries and crispy onion rings and good portions. If you are craving chip truck fries then this is the place to be. Restaurant was busy with local folks ordering fish and chips can t wait to try out on my next visit! (Flying J nearby for gas and clean restrooms!).

You cant go wrong when you eat here. The portions are huge and food was delicious. I had the hot turkey and my only complaint is that it was entirely dark meat when the menu said white meat only. Lucky for me, I prefer dark lol. Will definitely be back next time Im passing through town. Its also not far from the highway and easily accessible.
