In for a quick trip to Shanghai? You may forget that you are dining in Ottawa when you explore the traditional dishes on our menu.
Had great dinner with good friends to celebrate the holidays. Tried some new authentic Chinese food and they are not only good looking but delicious!!!
Got together with good friends before the holidays, and it was a perfect feast. We booked one of the private rooms, and it was a total of 11 of us, not crowded at all. The warm, inviting atmosphere is a stark contrast to the blistering wind on a winter night. Despite its name containing Shanghai, the "Oriental pearl", the cuisines offered at Shanghai ONE is more refined flavors of traditional Cantonese cuisine. We ordered the lobster, stir fried with green onions and ginger. The highlights of the meals are the Winter melon cup (pre-order required) and the Poon Choi. The Winter Melon cup brought a touch of creativity to the table. The hollowed-out melon was elegantly filled with a light, savory broth brimming with shrimp, abalone, mushrooms, and shredded chicken and cabbage. The poon choi is a traditional festival meal composed of many layers of ingredients, it literally means a "big bowl feast". I look forward to coming back for many fine meals with family and friends.
Reviews are all over the place with this restaurant. My experience was pretty good. Went for dim sum. Their dim sum menu is limited but they had all the usual popular items. Taste-wise, I'd say it's the best I've had in Ottawa. Not as good as in Toronto/GTA though. Service was fine. They were a bit slow, but it wasn't too bad. Shrimp Siu Mai was delicious!
Not sure what the bad reviews are about. We went in for dim dum and everything was delicious and hot. The dim sum menu is basic but they have most of the classics. Their ticketing system is a bit disorganized, make sure to check your bill at the end. We almost got overcharged.
The menu for this Chinese restaurant is varied and I like that there is a vegetarian section in the menu, although it seems limited. The portions are generous and tastes generally okay but lacks a bit of flavour. The interior has two televisions going and just seems overall dated like it hasn't been updated in many years. The service was nice but really, really slow. This is probably a better option for takeaway rather than sit down.
This restaurant borders on fancy, yet you can still have a casual dining experience. The food was very flavourful, and it's one of the few restaurants that actually makes spicy food spicy. Service was amazing, with 2 to 3 servers tending to our every need. Even the tea tasted better than any other restaurant I've been to.
We came for a Chinese New Year party The restaurant is big enough for the event with live music and performances. The decoration is nice . Service is good Food is delicious. I just don’t like when the light was turned down when the fish dish brought out, maybe because of live performance . We had children and elders at the table and I had to try my best to make sure no fish bone in the portions given to the children . After I made comments to the server, she turned the light on, so it was good
Honestly really good for Ottawa. From the moment we had the tea, it already tasted legit. And they have good prices on their combos. We got the dinner for 2, portions were small but it is enough to satisfy 2 people. The seating is pretty comfortable. Will be coming back!
Great lobsters!
Great place for family holidays gathering
Great food...awesome service. Highly recommended...
Dont come here to eat it. Byd The shrimp dumplings were raw. I bit into them and was still wondering why the filling was dark green. The waiter was so quick and immediately removed the evidence of the crime. He said that he would go to the back to steam another plate. In fact, it was just a filling. I ordered one and re-steamed it for a while before serving it. When I was finishing the check, the manager asked me why I didnt give him a tip. Your beef brisket was 60 to 70% pure gluten, dry-fried beef river, and the noodles were all sticky and hadnt been fully fried yet. The color was darker and lighter. nm has run out of soy sauce, right? Do I tip back? There was no apology, the waiter served raw food to the guest, and the waiter didnt even notify the manager? Did you come just by licking your face? It s really uncomfortable to pay 50 or 60 dollars for a meal like this. I don t think it s worth paying 20 dollars for the taste of this table of food. Ill add a follow-up. The merchant replied to me: Study hard and make progress every day? Is it true that merchants are so tough-talking? Will the service industry and catering industry know their mistakes and not correct them? Haha, that s invincible. Do you want it? Do you want me to change another account and add a few more high-scoring comments in Chinese and English and be satisfied? I didn t want to apologize, so I just pretended to be dead and it was so close to my face. I really didn t expect it.
Although the best Dim Sum in Ottawa, Ive resorted to comparing it to the best Dim Sum in Toronto and Vancouver. Of the 20 or so items we order, the Tripe was less than stellar (freezer burn?). And the pork steam dumpling tasted like burn smoke (without being burnt). The other 17 items were top rated, and exceptional. Except for the Lap Cheung Pork Rice. But almost nobody makes that right - Im comparing it to the street food of Chinas Clay Pot Lap Cheong and cured pork belly Rice. That fact that I am even reaching-in to compare it to these extra-Ottawa standards is enough to say it worth going to. It exceeds the old Hung Sum standards. If you are into Dim Sum, this is clearly your winner. Its the best Ottawa has to offer, and can hold its own in Montreal / Toronto / and ... Dare I say, even Vancouver. (Minus 1-star for not paying attention to details on those couple of items). Follow Up TIP:. If its kinda busy, just leave for somewhere else. They are not capable of handling any sort of high volume situation. Youve been warned. The ha gao shrimp skin sometimes isnt at its prime. The wok skill varies. But more often than not (especially when they are not swamped) the dim sum is very good. Its like the first few episodes of Hells kitchen where they take 2hrs and still produce nothing. If you ever want to see staff who has no f#ck to give, this place got none to give. Still great food. Update Again: So much potential, but they really need to let go of all the service staff. I mean all of them. Nothing against the sweet old folk, but they deserve to retire and be served instead. Come for the food, not the service.
Don t come
A wonderful feast, great ambience and Chinese delicacies. I really like the restaurants decoration with raised ceiling and modern LED chandeliers. Highly recommend if you want to have a perfect venue with your friends to enjoy Chinese foods
Go to a meeting there, the snack is good. have not tried dinner there. Will dinner there this holiday season.
Always my favourite spot to take my clients for lunch and dinner. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the foods and the atmosphere. Highly recommend
Nice big traditional chinese restaurant. Peking duck is expensive for only 2 courses. Yangtze is much better value. Food was decent but nothing special.
Waited a long time for our dish, service was lousy, taste of food could use a lot of improvement . That why Im not giving them any star
I haven t taste the food yet! But my friend s wedding no sounds, no micro just because the manager hasn t arrived yet! No communication at all!
Five stars for serving lunch for free on Canada day, food was great
Garbage restaurant cancelled my order week after week. If you are busy, plan better with the closing. I bet its more because I didnt order enough as the message said you couldnt fulfill the order, week after week. They thought theres no consequences of randomly cancelling peoples order after an hour in limbo.
Went for lunch today and had a terrible experience. The service was completely non-existent! Saying the same thing many times without getting a response. In the end, one dish was missing! ! But I didn t think about it when I was checking out! I didn t react until I got home. The tax and tip must have added more than twenty dollars. It is mandatory to pay a 15% tip. Wont go there again. There is no way to give a zero here, very angry.
Superb-delicious! I came here with my family mid-June 2024 for lunch. We had many options for seating and requested one of the private rooms (since they werent reserved) without any issue. Even though the diem-sum menu was limited we still enjoyed what we chose (i.e. beef tripes, pork dumplings, etc). I asked for my favourite (beef balls) and they prepared for me even though it wasnt on the menu. Very tasty treat! Overall the atmosphere and décor was very nice. Highly recommended.
Went to this restaurant this evening (Canada Day). The place was quite busy compared to the usual but had alot of Chinese in there. We waited to be received but the manager came to us at the entrance and couldnt even say hello or ask us anything , he was just looking at us and then the silence was awkward and we then told him we wanted a table. We asked for a high chair and he said he wanted to check if they had a high chair. We know they have high chairs because this is not our first time eating there. The manager did not give us feedback but rather went inside and was serving other guests sitting while we were standing at the entrance. Bear in mind we had 2 kids with us , one baby and one toddler . When I saw him serving guests while keeping us waiting, I went to him and expressed my displeasure as to how he kept us waiting while serving guests and gave us no feedback. He kept insisting he told us to wait, I asked him about the high chair he said he wanted to check , he couldnt respond and then I told him I am not even interested in eating there that he was racist and he said no problem we can leave. We knew he was being funny from the start We were a family of 5 with a pregnant lady standing. We were the only black people there for more context. The manager has no customer service skills whatsoever and is very racist .
We had the pleasure of dining at Shanghai One. It has a nice atmosphere, exceptional service and outstanding food quality. We love the perfect and delicious sweet and sour pork. This is the best in town. Our server was incredibly attentive and offered us free beer. Although the beer has 0% alc and is not comparable to real beer, it is free (not sure if the offer is available in Canada day) and refreshing after spending a hot day in downtown. It is win-win for us. We will definitely be returning.
The service I experienced was the worst ever. The waitress was rude, and the management was poor. I had to leave before even starting my meal. Definitely not recommended.
go there once more, you will be surprised.
Awful service, semi warm food 1st time and last time.
I ve dined here several times and found the food to be delicious. Our favourites are the fried seafood items like fried squid or fried fish. Service was extremely quick and attentive and the seating spacious and comfortable.
Very authentic Chinese food! Delicious, unique in Ottawa.
The high ceilings and ample space are the main reasons why I have always liked One on the Bund. When I dine here again this time, I feel that the food quality has been greatly improved compared to before, which gives me another important reason to help. We ordered seafood fried noodles for this lunch. The seafood was abundant, the noodles were hot and crispy, and the taste was moderate. It was a quality that is rare to eat in Ottawa. In addition, for dim sum, our family chose taro tarts, fried shrimp balls, spareribs, quicksand buns, salt water corner and siomai (there were five siomai! I was really surprised!). If you are not afraid of the heat, taro tarts and fried shrimp balls are definitely the best. Their proud work! Kid-friendliness: My teenage kids loved it and the waiter had some interaction with the kids.
Excellent food and service. We enjoy dim sum and set lunch very much
Vegetarian options: Lots of good choices! Food
Red bean dessert is included. Service is fast and food is good. Restaurant is very spacious and lots of space between tables.
HORRIBLE service waited 40+ minutes for three dimsum dishes. Left after an hour without being served, thoroughly disappointed.
We liked our experience until we got our Shanghai Beef... then we loved it!!
Heard that they have changed ownership. The food were very delicious, especially the shrimp balls and deep fried pork chops. Staff were very attentive. Great experience.
We went here to have dinner for lunar new year. Food was not bad, but the food took a bit long to come out. All the serving staff were very nice and attentive though.
Decent Dim Sum
They try to ripping off us 15% plus for private room. Food is not good, bellow average in Ottawa area, but the prices are a bit above average. I think it s my first and last time come to this restaurant. Not happy at all.
We did a big order for 15 people and most of the dishes were disappointing. Best were the moo shu pork and mapo tofu and salt and pepper shrimp. Most disappointing were the vegetables and the Peking duck (which was especially poor quality).
Food quality is not good, some dishes are not available. Pretty disppointed.
I cant speak on the quality of food as we didnt get any. We came and were seated relatively quickly. 2 dim sum carts passed us and ignored our table. We didnt speak Chinese and that was clearly the problem. 20 minutes with absolutely no service. When we mentioned this to the front cash/server, she responded okay, you can go. It left a bitter taste when someone says something like that.
The food is served too slowly and tastes bad
This place serves the worst dim sum I have ever had. The food was bland and dry. The pork spare ribs had the taste and texture of cardboard. Everything we ordered was mediocre at best. Save yourself money and choose another restaurant for your dim sum cravings.
The food was served very slowly. It took 2 and a half hours to serve 4 dishes, and 1 and a half hours for the first two dishes. And the food is extremely unauthentic. It was said that the chef of the five-star hotel recommended Sichuan food, so he ordered three of the most popular Sichuan dishes. From the color, smell, smell to the ingredients, it was really useless. One cant help but suspect that this chef has only heard of Sichuan food. Not only does he not know how to cook Sichuan food, but he has never known it all his life. I ve never seen Sichuan food. Reply to the merchants question: I have never expressed any opinions on the food or service of any restaurant before, even if the service is poor or the taste of the food is poor, it doesnt matter. I personally felt that I couldnt stand this restaurant so I posted a review, so this is the only review. I go to the restaurant at least once a week and never have the time to comment. This is a weird restaurant, so I took the time to say it. Merchant, dont be arrogant. I originally wanted to give it 0 stars, but you took advantage of the lowest star in the system and why dont you find a place where no one is around to have some fun and spread your virtue here.
we havent tried this place for years. Now they must change the owner or chef. everything is better now. The atmosphere is good. Sitting is comfortable compares to other Chinses restaurants on Merivale Rd. The food quality is good and fresh, price is okay. I would come again.
First time back in three years, still GOTO place for authentic Chinese food. Highly recommended Beef Ho Fan, Salty Fish & Diced Chicken Fried Rice, Range Free Chicken is one of the best in Ottawa. Spacious, clean environment and friendly service is a plus. Highly recommended.
Loved it. Will definitely be going again.
Waitress gave this arrogant attitude. Lol I don t pay you $$$ to be treated horribly. Quit your job if you really hate it and your customers omg.
I wasn t so much disappointed about the food but the service. We went in for Dim Sum and they didn t have enough carts or staff. We could have eaten quite a few more dishes but gave up getting service or food.
Perhaps it was the chef working that day, but the food was bland and some ingredients were low quality. Service was great though and decor (which many Chinese restaurants dont do very well in) was nice. Fried fish in black bean sauce - the sauce was bland, and the fish meat was also bland. Not sure why that would be, maybe not very fresh or low quality fish? Salt and pepper pork chops - not enough salt, not enough pepper Snow pea leaves and garlic - a lot of older stems, which makes the dish tough to chew. Stir fried shrimp with cashews and veggies - this dish was fine.
The food is mid with a good amount to fill you up. However, when i pay the bill, the waiter assuming i tip 10% and was insisted in forcing me to pay for that
I can never get through the phone
Extremely disappointed with the food at Shanghai One. Not one person in our large group could find a dish we like from today s dinner. We order 10 mains and only the bowl of rice was decent. The fried fish and fried shrimp dishes tasted like pork fat. The beef stew tasted like chewy dried soaked like salty soy salt. The $35 fish fillet in greens were not edible, dried fish bone with a few snow peas. The seafood soup tastes like left over vinegar. Paid almost $300, skipped the dessert as we felt sick. We went for burgers after. Will never come back here to eat.
I paid in advance online on Tuesday, and when I went to dinner on Wednesday the male server told me that he didnt have my payment information, even though I had explained to him that I paid online, he insisted that he didnt have my payment information and just ignored me, and then another server came over to me and apologized and explained that the system wasnt up to date because the restaurant was closed the day before. I noticed that his perspective is still not wide enough. Very spoiled dining experience. Also, the taste of the food was terrible.
The first time we came, the fried dough sticks were dry and hard. We love fried dough sticks, so we ordered two portions, but it was a failure. The carrot cake was like tofu dregs. It fell apart as soon as I pinched it and couldnt pick it up at all. It smelled bad. The shrimp rice roll was served cold. Braised vegetable gallbladder with shiitake mushrooms, the shiitake mushrooms have a sour taste. After tasting several dishes, I asked the waiter to remove them if I couldnt eat them. There was red sauce on the side of the teapot. The ordering was very slow and the food was served very slowly. I was looking forward to having morning tea, but the experience was terrible. Wont come again
Great spot! Not busy at all super fast service and delicious food . Also got some good recommendations by the staff almost as good as Kensington market ...
Servers are rude and incompetent
delicious dim sum! Great service by the cart workers!
The service attitude is too bad, I hope the restaurant owner will change and reform the service attitude of the staff. I will come here again, if the service attitude is still the same....
A restaurant that sells morning tea opens at four in the afternoon? Morning tea at four in the afternoon? I dont quite understand. Can the menu be changed?
Shanghai ONE deserves 5 stars. We ordered takeout: beef in black pepper sauce, bokchoy with mushrooms and shrimp and eggplant. We were also given complimentary fried rice. All of the dishes were very fresh and delicious. The food was on time and the service was lovely. Well definitely go back!
Just left about 30 minutes ago (its currently 6:10pm) - on Chinese New Year - there were 2 people dining in and another table of 4 was just arriving - well under the restricted capacity of 100 people Placed an order online at 3:19pm for a 4:45pm pick up time - nearly 90 minutes notice - I arrived at 4:55pm and the order was still not ready (5 dishes and an appetizer) - the maximum time ahead you can schedule a pickup is 90 minutes At approximately 5:15pm my order arrives - I check it and its missing a dish - it takes another 20 minutes to prepare the missing dish - as a peace offering, they give my 2 year-old son 10 fortune cookies Slow clap. At least the food is good quality - thats the only reason these guys get 3 stars
Amazing food. Actually listened to my special request. Everything always tastes great and comes quickly and hot. Cant ask for more! A++. An incredible restaurant to grab on Skip The Dishes!
A cute catbot works here
They are open now for sit in eating,
Went for dim sum. Service was slow with only one cart going around. Often times cart would arrive at our table with not much on it. Very little selection also. A shame because the staff were friendly.
Good prices and the food is good, the only down side is you might have to wait awhile for the food to come.
Pretty good dim sum spot for Ottawa. Would recommend checking out.
Ordered Schezwan fish (H10), it was a nice dish, authentic flavor. However everything else that we ordered came back in slimy tasteless sauce. We ordered shrimp rice noodles in black bean sauce which was completely bland to taste. The chicken dumplings in peanut sauce was a let down as well. Again, slimy sticky peanut sauce that was too sweet. It was a birthday dinner and I went home practically hungry
Great decor and service. Food is excellent. A great restaurant to host a banquet because of the rooms.
Very good food. Service was quick and servers were very nice. They also have a serving robot that looks like a cat and it sings happy birthday which was pretty unique and the kids loved it!
My Go to spot for Chinese cuisine and dimsum as the food is always delicious however they are SEVERELY understaffed. We waited for our food for over 40 minutes and just left half way, due to the poor service provided. No acknowledgment or check up was made during the visit.
Cantonese Fried Noodle and egg-shape deep fried dim sum are irresistible.
It took more time to serve our dinner for two set menu. We were warned before hand when we reserved our table for two at 6 p.m.
The quality of food, service was amazing. I have had great experience from Ying. Thank you for your great service . J.A
Good food.
Thanks for the Good service, clean restaurant , Delicious meal, thanks to the chef too
One of the best places to eat in ottawa. The prices are fair and the food tastes really good. The servers are super nice and quick. People even dance in groups, which was super nice to watch. Definitely good vibes here. Would really recommend this place.
If I were being executed tomorrow and could eat anywhere for my last meal, I would pick Shanghai One because my execution date would be pushed back forever due to my food never arriving.
I just recently had my wedding here the food was amazing, the venue was breathtaking. It was 10/10. I ve visited this restaurant in the past and was extremely happy with the service and quality of the food. After reading the bad reviews on here people need to understand that it takes time to bring out good food and that it s not a fast food joint, if your complaining about how long the food comes out and that your in a rush just expect McDonald s service when you are dining in. I just hope new customers disregard the bad comments and give this restaurant a try. You won t regret it
Dim sum & dinner are pretty tasty. Consistently slow service, though.
Good evening with authentic Chinese dishes . Love it. My Chinese cantine in Ottawa
Waited 40 mins for the first dim sum cart to pass by. By the time the food came around, the food was cold. Would not recommend
Probably the best dimsum in the Ottawa region. I had dimsum in Toronto and this place is pretty on par to GTA quality. Prices are standard for dimsum in the area if not a bit cheaper went here with a group of friends. It does help to speak mandarin as I had a friend order for us but they have carts for you to pick and choose. The ladies there are so nice!
Har Gow s shrimp was raw, hopefully I don t get any stomachache from this place. First and last time visiting..
Dim sum is so blend and tasteless. Not worth to try. But the service is the worst I was there today for the first time when I paid for the meal I was using cash, the lady purposely trying not to give me my change back when I asked to have my change back. I am sorry you are not that great that I should give you 30% tip. This is the worst place I have even been in ottawa. I really hope the owner can see the problem and fix it.
Shanghai ONE was a treat; delicious food, quick and friendly service, and reasonable rates. Even though the servers were super busy they took our questions with a smile and made great suggestions. We started with the crab&seafood soup and chinese broccoli and enjoyed them thoroughly. But the highlight of the meal was the delectable steamed fish which literally fell off the bone (with just a spoon). Looking forward to our next visit!
My go-to place for Chinese food takeout (I call ahead and pick up) and dine in. They are on food delivery apps like Uber. Servers are friendly. I ve come here for a couple years now and gotten quite a few orders and dine in meals. Note: This is not westernized Chinese food. Favourite dishes: - deep fried tofu - beef and daikon radish under the hot pot section of the menu -salted Chicken - Szechuan fish pot - spicy! -stir fried sole and veg - jelly fish and assorted meat platter - Fookien fried rice I ve also tried their crispy shrimp ball and it came out hot and delicious.
Food is very good. Service are very friendly. Don t understand why the rate is below 4.
Ordered here with family and family friends and it s very good and authentic !
I tried to pay the bill at the cashier, however the lady told that she is too busy for taking my payment... I told her I am rush, she ignored me... Food is very bad...
Ordered online and went to pick up. They say they couldnt make one of the dishes and asked us to choose another. We didnt want another dish and they say they cant refund us. They told us to contact their online service, but the online service tells us they are only support for the restaurant and doesnt do refund. Were out $50 from this place. Dont go.
Not recommended. I waited for 1 hour for my food. When I ordered an extra dish took another 30 minutes. Got fed up I paid and left. Will never returned.
I asked the waitress how long I still need to wait for the dishes after half an hour waiting. The waitress with a ponytail didnt answer but showed her ugly rolling eyes to me. Worst service!!! Never come back again.
(4 Adult and 5 kids) We had a good experience dinning in a private room. Only available when spending 150$ or more. Menu is vast, from chicken, beef, lambs, vegetables seafood etc... Flavour were different all across, some were better then others, wasnt to thrilled with the eggplants dish. The portions are good and excellent for sharing and all around delicious. Parking: stripped mall type of parking, lots of parking. Kid-friendliness: staff were friendly with our kids and even had a cat robot (4 feet) roll into our private room and sing a Happy Birthday. even though it wasnt no one Bday, kids were curious after seeing the robot wish Happy Bday to a table.
We really enjoyed the food. It was a bit quiet due to COVID. There were about five tables. Venue was clean. Food arrived quickly. We ordered 5 dishes. Squid was tender. Really enjoyed the fried taro with pork. Crispy and the ingredients were yummy. Chicken feet were marinated well. Beef balls were tender and juicy too.
Ordered szechuan chicken and salt and pepper chicken , I dont think I have ever had anything so spicy in my entire life , I couldnt even eat the szechuan as I was afraid I would need medical attention, it was insane.
Good service
Great food.. friendly staff...
It was good, all the flavours were authentic. One thing tho is that all the dishes were not hot enough, always felt like it was sitting for 5 minutes on the counter before coming out from the kitchen, slightly above lukewarm. Ill come back but if its the same next time Im gonna keep looking for something else.
Great dim sum and great service
It is among the best Chinese restaurants in Ottawa in my opinion. The taste of many dishes are relatively more fine tuned than most, and the portion of food is also pretty good.
Arrived at 6pm and despite ordering food before hand the first dish came an hour later. Way too long considering there were only like 6 tables around us. Also as we ate there were flies constantly flying around us. This happened two years ago when we hosted a family dinner as well. Why does food take so long here? They seem to prioritize takeout and delivery more than the dining room.
Excellent food and service. The shredded duck and ginger soup was so good that I may make it my go to soup in the future. We had enough left over for at least one more meal tomorrow. We will definitely be back.
The place is really nice, one of the biggest Chinese restaurant in Ottawa for sure. Service was good. Most of all the food was delicious! Way beyond my expectations. I would love to go back again, and I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a decent Chinese restaurant.
Bad service, bad food, bad waitress. Trust me, don t come, don t waste your time and patience.
I never thought that a Hong Kong-style breakfast could be so unpalatable. The steamed pork ribs were old and tasteless, the fried squid tentacles were wrapped in ridiculously thick batter and absorbed oil badly, and the fish roe on the siomai was already dry, and it looked like it was It has been frozen for a long time. The preserved egg and lean meat porridge has no salty taste. The attitude at the front desk is very bad and indifferent. There is only one short-haired waitress who is polite and has a good service attitude. I am very disappointed. The reason why I gave two stars is entirely because of this. A polite waitress.
My first dinner out since COVID-19 pandemic started in March 2020. I feel bad for all the restaurant owners. Every staff in the restaurant wore masks. The restroom was super clean. The floor was not sticky, very clean. The air was also clean. With food cost increase and inflation, I understand that it is not easy to run a restaurant nowadays, especially during the pandemic time. So, I wont complain about the food portion any more. Each dish we ordered tasted very good. We felt comfortable sitting in the dining room. We ordered: B03 - Crab meat and sea foam soup C01 - Seafood with seasonal vegetables C05 - Shrimps with pepper salt C14 - Braised sweet sour fish (portion is smaller than the one we tried before) D06 - Deep fried crispy chicken D23 - Salt and pepper pork chops G01 - Tofu with mixed seafood hot pot J07 - Braised mushroom & green vegetables We were happy with the dishes we ordered although the dish portion has been significantly reduced. I wouldnt complain at all. We are happy that this restaurant survives the pandemic and we still have a good Chinese restaurant in Ottawa. Keep up the good work! Another update (from another dinner on Oct. 14, 2021): We found the dishes we ordered were quite salty this time. Dont know if the food we got were cooked by a different chef since the taste were not the same as the previous visit. The soup (crab meat and sea foam soup) we ordered was good. But the other 4 dishes (C15 - Stir fried jumbo shrimps with salted egg yolk, G01 Tofu with mixed seafood hot pot, D06 Deep fried crispy chicken, and E07 Stir fried beef with green vegetable) were very salty! We told our server and hope that our message got delivered to the kitchen. Otherwise, it would be hard to get me back to this restaurant since I cant eat food with too much salt at my age now.
Waited for a long time, and the dishes are too salty!!!!!!!!(Only fried rice is around normal level). If you can handle this salty attack, its taste is barely acceptable. Again, it s tooooooo SALTY!
Delicious food, love there are different styles of chinese authentic food like Sichuan, cantonese and shanghainese. Spacious open restaurant thats able to accommodate both large group and smaller intimate dining experience.
This is one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Ottawa. The menu is extensive, covering many styles of Chinese food from various regions (it helps if you go with someone who is familiar with the different styles), and I am consistently impressed with everything I try each visit. It is hard to find food as authentic. The steamed tilapia melts in your mouth and the crispy duck is to die for! I also enjoy the atmosphere and modern decor.
This is the best authentic Chinese food in town. Food are delicious decoration is very elegant and the service was very fast and good. Dishes have big amounts food. Braised sweet-sour fish, steamed fish, fried tofu and salted roasted chicken were really good. We loved all the dishes we ordered. We will go there more often definitely.
I have wanted to come to this store for a long time. Some time ago I passed with high hopes. The store decoration is relatively prosperous in Ottawa. But the food here is really terrible. After buying more than a dozen dishes, I could only make do with two noodles. Some of the dishes tasted so weird that they even made you want to vomit. The store manager really needs to replace the chef in the back. Otherwise, I really don t recommend this hotel.
Service good, food average, not out of the ordinary
Came here on a Saturday for lunch, we didn t do the dim sum, we ordered from their regular menu instead. Waited 50 minutes for a plate of cabbage and another 20 minutes for the rest of our food. The place is serverely understaffed, and because of this we received very very poor service. Disappointing.
Good food. Large open and airy dining area. Service however was incredibly slow during our visit.
Great food, great price
Combo has smaller dish than regular. Taste not bad. Waitresses need more training. We always make room for them to hand dishes to our table but they still come from any side even beside of young kids. And I get spilled of sauce several times when they are collecting dishes. Too bad. If they get improvement, I will recommend this restaurant to my friends.
Understaffed - very poor service and tasteless dishes: Our cocktails were ordered before the meal but got served almost when we were done eating. Waitress was constantly interrupted by phone, clients and other tasks while trying to do our cocktails. Dishes for sharing were served, but didnt get our individual plates to eat (not smart enough to notice), I had to run after an employee to get them. Had to walk over kitchen (twice) to get our missing rice. Rice was finally served 20 minutes after the main dishes, once everything was cold. Finally, dishes were tasteless - the beef sautés sauce tasted only beef broth thickened with corn starch. Same thing with shrimps and other dishes. This area has very fine exotic restaurants - having this one amongst finest restaurants in Ottawa is a shame. I will never go back there again.
Very Very good
Delicious foods, good services, very good price.
very delicoius food
Delicious dishes and good environment. Just had a great time tonight.
The restaurant is nice. Lovely ambience. Quality food. Prices match the quantities and the quality. 2 private rooms for private family gatherings/occasions. Parking slots are available and close to the restaurant. I recommend the place and definitely will go again to Shanghai ONE :)
Very good, fast, good price
Improved with great dim sum now
We had a group of 11 in a private room. Excellent service and food
Really surprised! We landed on Shanghai One restaurant quite by accident on Hunt Club at Merivale. On a Tuesday for lunch. Warm welcome. Smiles. We were the only Caucasians in the restaurant (usually a good sign). We had felt like dim sum for a while but didnt feel like searching for parking in Chinatown. There is a huge parking lot there. Perfect. Reviews speak of greasy food and lousy service. This could not be farther from our experience yesterday. We needed help ordering and before we asked, we were offered help with smiles. The ladies doing the service gave us pictures, and explained the most popular dimsum. Tea was brought to us. We asked about some previous favourites, which were pointed to us and alternatives were also suggested. Prices are by item which are brought to us, nice and hot. 30$ for 2 was excellent and we were full. And happy we found a dimsum place not too far with parking. One of the ladies explained and showed us (because we asked) dinner menues, party private rooms, hot pots, and lunch specials for 9.95$. Some people had that for lunch and the plates looked delicious and quite generous. I never post reviews. Seeing how low the reviews were and how unjust they were compared to our experience, I just had to comment. We are going back. Often! A truly enjoyable dim sum experience by accident!
Food is good, though a little salty. Thats about all thats good though. Food arrives very slowly. Consistently wait 45 minutes for the soup, and an extra 10 minutes to be served a single dish. Im been here 5 or 6 times now, and each time is the same story. Be ready for a wait, but at least it tastes decent after.
The food was too salty for my taste.
Good Chinese food
Excellent dim sum and friendly service. We came late so they didn t have the full menu available but what we had was amazing so we ll be back
We had both dim sum and dinner here. Authentic Chinese food, good service
Should put less MSG to the food. The portion of my orders were also small compared to other restaurants of the same kind.
Quick great service. My families favourite spot for Dim Sum. The dinners are amazing too! Very authentic Chinese.
The portions were large But a lot of MSG, as in most Chinese restaurants in North America.
accessible wheelchair
Great place and service.
Food quality could improve. Service is good.
Food was good, but service very slow.
This restaurant gets the one star for the space & decor. Do not let that fool you though. Service was horrible as other reviews mentioned. We went there for lunch and the place was half empty so we thought the wait wouldn`t be too bad. Well... finally got seated 15 minutes later. Placing an order was a struggle as well, getting the food was a whole other ordeal. It took forever for the food to arrive, and items were missing. A lot of others left due to missing items, and argument about the service was heard from other tables. Lots of unhappy customer this day and they left before they finished eating. When we did get the food, minus some missing items. They weren`t that great and I have had better in Ottawa(which is sad). For this restaurant sake, I hope they were just having a bad day dealing with short staffing issues. Numerous tables were not cleared when we got there, and they were still like that when we left.
Understaffed, slow service and dishes had too much grease. Had high expectations as their is new management however was disappointed.
Very good tonight
Servers are pretty rude, prices are expensive, the menu is only in Chinese, they messed up our reservation, they don t understand when we ask for utensils and the food is always so cold
Definitely one of the better restaurants for Chinese cuisine in the area. Great decor, very clean, and the food is authentic and appeals to many different tastes. It is a pretty long sit down place, expect up to 2 hours or more - which was perfect for us because we were celebrating with old friends.
Good so so
Excellent food, very good and pleasant service. Great for our large family gathering.
One of the best Chinese food in Ottawa. Lobster here is highly recommended.
We came today and waited for a table we waited quiet long while the tables were empty. Take a long time to fill the pot of tea and water. Needs to improve and alert when guests ordering foods. No one there was care to pay attention to the customer. Foods was cold, yang chow fried rice was wet and the portion was getting small and smaller.
My goto place for dinner!
Do dim sum but never ever do dinner with kids there. 45 min for 1/2 food to show up with hungry kids! When we decided to leave taking out the chunks of order that were ready, no one offered a discount or even an apology! Only reasons for 2 stars is the dim sum was ok but probably after this wont be back.
o.o
Their food overall is good but those 3 dishes from the Peking duck were not as good as the other dishes. However, the food came super slow, it took us 2 hours for the dinner.
Great authentic Chinese food, great service! A must try!!
Food & services are good. Our group had a great supper meeting in one of the guest room.
Had a nice lunch dim sum here, very good
Poor service, mediocre food; Of the 12 dishes served, only 2 came out that we liked. Our table was rarely cleared, dishes were forgotten and they didnt have glasses for water. Rice was provided at the end of the meal. Staff didnt not consider any simple allergies (green onion) that we mentioned. I was embarrassed to bring my guests here. Plenty of room for improvement. A place that defines itself to have fine dining, services nor the food meets that expectations. To end on a good note, the hot sake wasnt that bad.
I dont write reviews, but I had to leave one today. I was looking for new restaurants to try out on google map and checked the star rating on this place for fun b/c Ive been here few times. I cant trust google map restaurant reviews, cause I know this place is way better in price, taste, quantity n quality compared to other chinese restaurants with 4+stars. If you disagree, than name a better chinese restaurant n I will try it. The star rating on this place is b.s
My preferred place for the tall ceiling and spacious dining hall.
Ok food, very bad service.
Shanghai one
There aren t many great tasting Chinese food for a Chinese person here in Ottawa. This place is the closest you ll get. The service ladies there are super friendly.
