Okay, I have gone here for YEARS and the quality and service have dropped significantly. You ALWAYS always forget to include the hot sauce when I have ordered it (and paid for it lately). Further to that, the price has multiplied ever since I started going years ago. Irrationally so I might add. Shaan himself use to be at the front, but now it seems others attend. The flavour of the curry has been diluted since I first started going and further to that, whenever they do actually remember to add hot sauce, Ive noticed its liquidy now, so they are clearly diluting it. For the unbelievably high price (and this is not just the result of covid, when I visit Toronto, for the same price I get 4 times more food easily). I am COMPLETELY disappointed in this indian restaurant. Shaan, you use to be better. Drop the price, and start remembering my hot sauce, seriously. Actually....Im never going here again, there are better places out there in Ottawa. It is also impossible to park here easily, you have to jump the curb. Further to that, their hours are strange. Its just the worst indian food place in Ottawa Ive been to, and it used to be the BEST.

Shaans is genuinely the best Indian curry in the city!! Every single time I eat there, I m blown away. Mango lassis is super flavourful without being too sweet and the veggie samosas are SO yummy. We moved away from Ottawa and when we moved back Shaans was our first meal back in the city!

This entire meal tastes and looks like it was reheated from the frozen section. Portions are also way smaller than the photos advertised

The food isn t so fresh, I stopped in for lunch and had butter chicken with naan. The curry was a tiny portion, lots of rice, and the naan was not fresh. I don t know why the rating is so high, they must have fake reviews. I don t recommend it.

I had a great time and found the service excellent! The food was delicious and the owner was so polite and considerate the whole time. The owner gave great recommendations and after I settled for the butter chicken she was very accommodating and made sure I was happy with it. She even brought me this special hot sauce when I let her know I loved spicy food!

This is a hard review to write as we have ordered takeout from Shaans for years and were big fans of the food there. Over the past couple of years though, we havent ordered as frequently because we had noticed that one of our favourites - the beef curry - wasnt as good as it was (the delicious chunks of beef got much smaller and less tasty so we stopped ordering it). Our other favourites - the chickpea and the lentil curries were still delicious. However, our latest takeout order will be our last. We know that food costs have risen dramatically so seeing the prices on the menu posted on the website for the large size - which is listed as being 24 oz - was not a surprise. That being said, when I picked up our bag of food, I was surprised at how light it was and when I got home and took the containers out, I was shocked at how small they were. So shocked that I took out our kitchen scale to weigh them. One weighed 9 7/8 oz and the other one tipped the scale at 11 7/8 - not 24 oz! The curries were tasty as always but we definitely felt ripped off. Good bye Shaans - it was great while it lasted.

Restaurant does not care about food safety or allergies. Avoid at all costs if you have a serious nut allergy.

This is NOT an allergy friendly restaurant!!! My partner has a severe all-nuts allergy. He ordered the butter chicken and noted the allergy in the order notes. The restaurant did not call nor cancel the order nor advise that there were CASHEWS in the butter chicken. All other restaurants usually call us to let us know if the item contains nuts and ask to change the order. Shaan Curry House DID NOT. Allergies are to be taken seriously, especially when severe. This was our first and last time ordering from this restaurant, as we cannot trust that they respect allergies, food safety guidelines, read the notes on UberEats orders, or even take a minute to advise their clients when it comes to food safety. Not recommended.

My good friend ordered from here who has a severe nut allergy. He noted it in his order and was told that the place was allergy friendly. They did not inform him that his butter chicken contained cashews and as a result he ended up in the hospital. Do not recommend as they have no concern for allergies.

This restaurant claims to be allergy friendly, but nothing could be further from the truth. After making them aware of his life-threatening allergy to nuts, my son was served a dish containing cashews resulting in an anaphylactic reaction requiring a trip to the ER. Stay far away!

I ordered at the front counter, sat down, and received my food in about five minutes. It was piping hot and really tasty. You get a good amount of food for the price point. Its not the best Indian food in all of Ottawa, but its definitely enjoyable and wont break the bank! As a side-note, I loved the green sauce they served on the side. A little spicy, but not too much. Really good. Thanks for the friendly service, and I will definitely be back!

Grabbed two curries to go from their lunch specials. Pretty underwhelming portions, and the curries were some of the most watery curries I have had, considering I had the butter chicken. Was far from a creamy dish. The menu also has errors in it, which I pointed out well over two months ago, and still not fixed. They have their Tandoori Chicken (dry dish) listed under Curries, when it is clearly, and factually not a curry. Staff was nice, food was prompt, may give them another try in the future if Im in the area but not a great first experience for a takeout place thats rated over 4.5.

Excellent customer service and food. So far I already tried their Aloo Tikki, Samosa, and Momos. The food was very tasty and came in generous portions.

Kids loved the quick meals with samosa and we had chicken biryani. Biryani gets 5 star because it was authentic, unlike the regular rice mixed with curry sort of biryani. We ordered for 3 , but 4 of us were full. 1 less star for the palak paneer kabab which needed little more frying.

We ordered food for pick up but when I got home I wasn t sure if I had the sizes I ordered or if it was enough for my group. I called and they assured me it was enough and I was satisfied but they sent over a full order of butter chicken for no charge anyway. Very unexpected and actually there was enough! Pretty amazing service though. I hope they still made money on this order. Great food too.

We made a dinner reservation for 3 people and ordered a bunch of dishes to share. We got butter chicken, lamb curry, beef curry, mixed veg curry, chickpea curry, various samosas, rice, naan, salad, gulab jamun. To drink we had a mango lassi and chai. Our favourite was the lamb curry and butter chicken as well as the gulab jamun. Pros: comforting Indian spices and flavours in the curries, good customer service, decent meat chunks in curry.

I ordered the food off Skip the Dishes. Everything was very delicious, I ordered bhaji and the butter chicken curry meal. The onion bhaji was amazing, I really like the salad dressing, and the butter chicken was yummy. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars is because the amount of chicken for the price is not fair. I like to order Indian myself because I cannot replicate the naan and sauces for the meat. If I am paying for mostly rice and salad, why pay so much when I can make it myself?

We routinely order takeout there. The Aloo Tikki is likely the best in town. We also tried rice biryani and samosa chaat, which are good but not exceptional.

I came here every week for 5 years when I worked in the area in the early 2000s. It was excellent service and good comfort food at a good price. For the past 10 years I still come here once a year. Yes prices are now much more from 2005, like a lot of food joints but triple? The quality and portion size has gone downhill. My Big Meal last week had 3 small pieces of chicken. The sauce was also very watered down. The rice was good, but hard to screw that up. Samosa was dry yet very greasy. Was still hungry afterwards. Its getting to the point that its not worth the detour to come get takeout.

I visited this restaurant after looking out at the review but it was far below our expectation. Ordered samosa and it was ok ok . I can find better samosa around in same or lesser price. I ordered chicken tandoori with veg curry . Food do not look tempting and taste is below average . The portion size is small considering the amount paid. In summary food not worth of money paid for.

Even though most restaurants are adjusting their prices due to the ongoing inflation, the value provided here was more than worth it for me. The butter chicken and garlic naan were particularly delicious with just enough quantity to fill me up. Additionally, I was warmly greeted by the lady at the counter whose hospitality added to the overall experience. Despite the price adjustments, the quality of the food and service remains top notch and a must visit.

We just went there for a soccer match from toronto. My kids loved their Briyani.. and wanted to have it again on the same day. Their curries were good and the big meal was a good option.The naan was soft. Definitely a go to place for Indian food.

We went the other day to this excellent little gem of an eatery and wow did we have a feast. We are amateurs of indian food having been to many in Montreal and this one is just sooo good. We took the vegetarian menu and the butter chicken menu with naan and mango lassi and it was absolutely delicious. The service was super polite and fast. The prices are really good too! We are returning the next time we are in Ottawa :) And yes you can sit down, there is even a big table for a group of 10ish people Vegetarian options: vegetarian menu was super good

It s a hidden gem right on merivale road that looks difficult to pull into but once you do you won t be sorry you did. The food here is delicious. I remember trying the chicken Bombay and I fell in love with it that I went back again after work for seconds. It s been like 5 years since and I m still in love.

As an Indian I was expecting an Authentic Chai experience from an Indian run restaurant, clearly they used Loblaws branded Chai steeped in water. All to say it wasn t good, but I do hear they make authentic Indian food, I may try it sometime but less likely now that I ve been put off by their tea.

I personally liked the chicken and chickpea the best but my friends all had differing views; try ordering the multi-dinner set with companions and try them all! The naan was warm and toasty. The service was also very friendly, the man in the front was helpful in deciding what to order.

Ordered a family meal for 6 and was underwhelmed with the amount of food we got for the price. That being said, the food was delicious. In speaking with the owner he mentioned is it more expensive if you order from skip the dishes and that they take 30% of the bill. A thought - why not offer 10% off for pick up? Owner would still make more that way!

Moved to Canada from the UK in 2006 and been looking for a good curry house for ages. My search is over. They do not have much selection in terms of variety of dishes but dont let that fool you. I had the best lamb curry I have had in a LONG time on Friday night and my partner had the chicken curry which was also really tasty. The lamb was so tender and the spices tasted fresh, I was thrilled. Heat level is provided by an addition of green sauce, none for mild, a small amount for medium, with larger helpings for hot, extra hot and dragons breath. Samosas are large and looked good but we did not order any, we will try some on our next visit. Naan bread is OK, nothing special. Restaurant is small and cozy looking but was take out only due to Covid-19 restrictions. Service was quick, friendly and staff were wearing masks. Shaan Curry House is definitely going to be on regular rotation for take outs.
