Sunday brunches & familiar Mexican meals are cooked up at this family run neighborhood restaurant.
I was excited to go to this place as I heard so much about it. The Guacamole was not tasty at all. The tacos were over priced and blond not good. Everything was pricey for the kind of place it is. It feels like you are in kindergarten. The drink they call strawberry daiquiri was nothing but a Slurpee. I will not go back to waste my money here.
As soon as you walk in you’re taken in by the atmosphere. I love the look of this place, so fun and yet comforting at the same time. The food is great. We had elote and enchiladas. Really, really good. My only tiny criticism would be that the service was slow. Our food was out very quickly but we probably would have ordered more, especially drinks, if someone would have checked on us but they never did. I will also say that the elote was amazing but I wish the corn cob was cut into two or three pieces. We didn’t realize it was only once cob and my partner and I wanted to share it, also it was 8$ which is a lot for one corn. Other than that though the food was great. The place looks great. Will definitely be back.
This is the best, most authentic Mexican restaurant I've found in Ottawa. The food is amazing, made from scratch goodness. Wonderful mariachi bands on a Friday night, and the location on Marivale was packed. I'm eager to try out the Kanata location next.
Beautiful atmosphere! Food was really nice, the quesabrirria was bit on the soft side but they were very tasty The bean dip was beyond a spice level I have ever had in my life! My mouth was on fire, had to order a side of guacamole to balance the heat. I feel like the server could have maybe mentioned that we were about to order the dip that is hotter than hell. Would've been a bit helpful. had to wave the server down a lot for water and napkins as there wasn't much table attention,
Homely busy spot with quite a few tables. I agree with many reviews that for the price it should be better. Margarita was quite nice tasting but the spicy salted rim was a bit musty, presentation was cute. Kind waitress working all the tables. Churros was good but a little bit of an old oil taste. Would still return with my children to try the dessert.
Super delicious place to get some Mexican food. We came on a Tuesday and while they were busy, they still had space to fit our family of 6. We ordered their chicken enchiladas (with green (Verde) sauce), cheese quesadillas (plain cheese for the kids), 3 assorted tacos, and for dessert churros. Everything was super fresh, simple and delicious and best of all it came so quickly that we were in and out in under an hour (great for our tired kids!). The standout for me was the enchiladas which I ordered without radish and tomatoes.
We really loved the ambiance here. The interior decoration was very eclectic with Spanish music playing. The menu also seemed very authentic in terms of what was available. The taco bowl was massive and very tasty. Tacos de Arrachera was so flavourful. Only let down was the chicken quesadillas which was a bit bland compared to the rest of the food we had. That was probably just a bad choice we made. Definitely recommended! Ps: They even have a Mariachi band playing on Friday nights so if a dinner with entertainment is your thing then book ahead.
I love Mexican food. But based on two dishes from this restaurant, I was not impressed. I ordered the taco bowl. I was thinking it would have a deep fried bowl, but it was actually just a ceramic bowl filled with taco ingredients. Rice at the bottom of the bowl, with raw onion, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, and a few other ingredients...unfortunately, the ingredient of taste was not included. I had to add salt to taste something. I ordered beef, since the initial price was vegetarian. The little dalop of beef was about 1/4 cup. I don't remember it having any taste. Service was great...very attentive. I was there the night a Mariachi band played. They added to the atmosphere.
Great food, and if you come on a Friday you can experience the Mariachi band. Very loud but very fun. If you tell them its your birthday they serenade you :)
Continues to be our favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Cant beat their tacos and quesabirria! Dietary restrictions: Almost the entire menu is GF.
Dont come here. Eat pork, corned beef, mutton and mutton. The restaurants decor brings a lively Mexican vibe with its colorful design, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and eager to make recommendations. Its a perfect place for families, groups of friends, or anyone looking for a fun and relaxed meal. Highly recommended!
Food was horrid, service was next to none and they wouldnt take meals off the bill that we tasted and were disgusted by, rotten corn, unseasoned chicken and the worst restaurant experience Ive ever had.
Very very small portions and cold food. High prices for small portions.
Declined service on the basis that i did not have a reservation. Unbelievable complecency! Laziness and myopic business acumen at is best, specifically, when there are a bunch of empty tables and extra income to be made. Dont bother walking in to be rejected, please go somewhere else instead, this locality is being run as a luxurious miltinational chain.
We went in spontaneously because the place we intended to go to had no seating. Absolutely a great stroke of luck. The vibe was very casual, but the staff felt like the knew their stuff. We were recommended the quesabarillas and they may now be my favorite mexican food. Had one of the margaritas, the one with grand marnier in it. Smooth and delicious. Ill be bringing my family and friends here 100%.
Had a reservation for a Thursday evening. Waited 40 mins past our reservation time, never was even offered to order drinks. Half the restaurant was empty, customers could not even get a server to cash them out. They had non stop Uber eats drivers picking up orders though.... at least have the decency to tell us that you are only catering to outside customers? 10 / 10, would love to almost eat here again <3
Chose 4 tacos (pastor, gringa, camaron, tinga) and they were all excellent. The mariachi band was fun. Absolutely worth a visit. And it s gluten free approved!
Great, authentic food and I love the inside atmosphere. It s a nice hole in the wall kind of place. The service was slow and inconsistent, but I d return. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetation options. Dietary restrictions: Lots of GF options.
We ordered 2 tacos and a taco bowl, which added up to $41. Taco has only one small taco per plate. Taco bowls portion was smaller than a kids meal. After spending $41, we left the restaurant hungry. The vegetarian option is a joke.... potato filling is the only option to replace meat.... protein is replaced by carbs.... never again. We were waiting for a long time to be seated, after much delay one waitress took our order and few minutes later another one arrived asking what we would like to order.... horrible experience.... never again
We saw the good reviews and went. Unfortunately our experience was not good. Firstly the service was quite slow despite there not being many people. We figured atleast the food will be good since they are taking so much time to make it. But the food was not too good either. It was cold and dry and lacked flavour. For the price, it was not worth it. We probably won t be going back.
The very best. Loved the crew and the food and the drinks. Awesome
Always enjoy dining here and the margarita is amazing
The lucha libre masks on the wall may fool you into thinking youre in a real Mexican restaurant, dont fall for it. We dropped in for mid Sunday afternoon lunch. There were 6 occupied tables when we showed up, so neither empty nor packed. The waitress was slow to visit our table, took quite a while to take our drink orders (1 Corona, 1 ginger ale) and longer to serve them. It was a sign of things to come. The were several tables not cleared, and the waitress seemed overwhelmed even though it wasnt a big crowd in there. The Guacamole and chips were okay but small serving considering it was $14. When the food finally arrived it was lukewarm. The rice was lumpy, the beans had cooled enough that they had that patina of once hot, but not. Final tally, one shared appetizer, two dinners, 1 beer, and a soft drink was $94. excluding tip. We wont be back.
The food is tasty! I usually go to the one on Preston. There was a party at the same time as my visit and they were screaming so loud I could not hear my guest and we left instead of ordering more food. We felt very frustrated and had wished the servers could ve spoken to the party about the noise. Instead they looked uncomfortable and we did not enjoy our evening.
Just had lunch here and were delighted by their delicious fresh food. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Cant wait to go back for dinner. Service was excellent the the server was so pleasant.
We bought takeout for 50 people tacos with 3 different meats! The entire process was pleasant from the organization, the quote, the hygiene, the punctuality and the food itself! very happy With the service of Casa Mexico! Everything excellent
The best food!
VERY Overpriced!! Rude hostess right off the bat. Decent food but service needs work. Make a reservation if it is Friday or put up with rude hostess telling you to be gone in 1.5 hours because the table she put you at is reserved. Dirty table. Zero check-in.
Great, every time.
Just left there 5 minutes ago. Meat was flavourful, tacos were very lacking, I like more options, sauces and cheese on mine! I have had these tacos elsewhere and they were much larger and included cheese, guac, pico etc on the side. These were just tiny tacos. We ordered chips and pico - extremely stale chips. 6 pf us left hungry paying $203!
Lovely place with authentic dishes.
1st time here and I will NEVER go back!! My so called taco was a tiny pies of tortilla bread with a tiny roll of beef crap inside. Never seen a taco like that before, not even in Mexico!! It cost $6.50 for two small bites and I had to spit it out. The soup was not soup, it was some nasty thing that looked like salsa. Gross!! The only normal thing was the small amount of guacamole and chips which cost $15!!! I just paid $50 w/tip and I m starving!! Never again!!!
Great tacos! Had fish tacos! Fantastic!
Food was not bad, not spicey but also not great. For chicken quesadillas, no sides, three shrimp tacos, a regular coke, a mexican coke and HST plus Tip it was $73. That is way too much for what we got.
I really enjoyed my experience here! I actually accidentally ordered the wrong thing, to no fault of the menu, but it was still very good. Im excited to come back and try what I initially went for! Also, the Mojito was awesome, they did not hold back on the lime or mint which is always my issue when ordering a mojito, and the size was good too! For sure recommend!
Every other Friday is a Mariachi playing from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Make sure you have an appointment.
The food is an offense to Mexican cuisine. The rice is a dyed white sticky rice with no flavor, far from the great Mexican rice that I have enjoyed in many places. Tortilla soup has no tortillas, and it is just chicken broth. Tacos without sauce. You can get better food for your money in many other places. Everything is highly overpriced! Review in Spanish: The food at Casa Mexico is a grocery to Mexican gastronomy. The rice is an oriental style rice without flavor or spices, without any seasoning. It is rice painted orange. We didnt even eat it (straight into the trash). Tortilla soup does not have a tortilla. The tacos are mediocre. The soul of Mexican food is the sauces, they give you Herdez sauce from a can. I recommend that you do not spend your money at Casa Mexico. There are better places where you get better food for your money.
We went for my moms birthday ovet all small place. But luckily we were the only ones there throughout the visit. Service took a bit longwr to ask or bring the food. We all got a share of guac n chips( unfortunately they do not have salsa) their pico De gallo really wS tomato n onions so boop to that. We all did grab the birria tacos ammmazing
Offensively flavourless, just plain bad food. The most regrettable Mexican meal I have had, and the sad bit is I am not exaggerating one bit, it was a long wait for the most soulless plate of Mexican food, its a shame really, since I usually love Mexican food.
I never knew of this place until my date suggested this place. Good food choices and enough vegan options. Food came fast but not hot enough. Small and cozy place. Will come again.
The food is good and the mariachi music is beautiful
Delicious food, great service, enjoying your favorite food while the mariachi bands playing live...never been sad at a Mexican restaurant for sure!!
Excellent authentic tacos! I tried 5 flavors and they were all very good. The strawberry daiquiri was delicious. I will return without hesitation. Parking: Hes in the back
Nice food but cloud be little less cost each one $6.50 or taco box 20 for $60 Expensive I felt Parking no issue lots free on back of restaurant Food : 4/5
Read a lot of about this place via google reviews and reddit so we wanted to try it out. Unfortunately, it was dissapointing... Ordered a Tacos Dorados De Barbacoa and Enchiladas. The rice and the beans were stone cold; the rice was in lumps! The Barbacoa wasnt served with a consommé as mentioned on the menu so we asked the server if we had everything we ordered and if we could read the menu again. Also, Im not sure if the photos uploaded by others here are tagged incorrectly but I was served deep fried rolled tacos but thats not what I thought I was ordering. Took them a while to figure it out with the kitchen and serve the consommé (which is totally fine but the server said the kitchen was busy..sure.. we were the only 2 in the entire dining room). They didnt offer to change our plates or reheat the food either. Not worth the $$$ :(
My favorite Mexican restaurant in all of Ottawa. Excellent food, great atmosphere, great service. Waitresses did bring the wrong tacos to us, they brought the right ones to us, but charged us for the wrong order, as well. My guest did eat the tacos, so we paid with no complaints but I think we should have been offered them for free. Dietary restrictions: Much of the menu is Gluten free.
This place used to be really good. After my last visit, it seems to have slowly declined in quality. What used to be flavorful is now fairly bland or very salty. We waited around 35-40 minutes for our food to come out during the evening with a handful of tables but they came out pretty lukewarm. A variety of tacos were ordered (shrimp, asada, pastor, pescado) and the quesabirria. Tacos were flat flavor wise while the quesabirria broth was very very salty. Sadly, I personally will not be returning as the price, quality and portions no longer seem to match up.
Loved everything about this wonderful restaurant. I loved the Mexican coffee what a treat! I have already recommended this place to everyone I know. Next time I want to try the Mariachi night.
Great authentic Mexican place with lots of taco options and other dishes. The carnitas and birria seem to be the best/most legit. The al pastor has been good in the past but was disappointing last time. Hopefully it was just an off day. They have a little patio as well. It is on a loud busy street but is worth it if you have a dog. Tuesdays have a great taco deal. Parking: There is an awkwardly angled lot in front of the plaza, but also more free parking behind the building.
Good food, good drinks it s just good all around
The food and service was good. Excellent quality and presentation but for the price the portions were very small . I could literally count the black beans in my dish. Also the basement where the bathrooms were smelt terrible. Vegetarian options: Not so many vegetarian options.
As a Mexican I have always been a fan of birria but here they disappointed me with the flavor, it was super salty, they ruined the traditional flavor, I finished eating it more than I had strength.
Good food, but dishes are expensive for what one gets. Id estimate about 30% overpriced. A $27 dish should be $18.
I went recently and was very dissatisfied with the food. The rice was very bland and didn t look like proper Mexican rice, the enchiladas had no flavour and the taco al pastor had no seasonings, I m not sure if the owners are trying to please the clientele in Canada but not good food, it used to be much better but the service was great and restaurant has a nice look to it but if you re expecting good authentic Mexican food this isn t the place
Went July 5th @ noon. My goodness! The food was so good! Service was decent all things considered (faurly busy with only 1 server). I ordered quesabirria and guac & chips. Best birria Ive had in the city. I didnt get any alcohol as I was on my lunch break, but next time Ill try a marg. Salsa Verde was delightful, salsa roja was a bit too spicy for me, but thats to be expected. I assure you, I will be returning. Keep up the great work!
Pile of fun on the nachos. Nice mole.
I tried to make a reservation but she hung up on me because the band was too loud on their end and she couldn t hear me.. poor customer service.
Great food .portions will leave you feeling satisfied
Tacos could use some more spices. All pastor was bland and dry
This restaurant has good options for gluten free people. Good service as well. I come here every time I am in Ottawa. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options.
Excellent food and service. Simple and clean atmosphere
Great little restaurant
Chorizo tacos are my favourite
Went on taco Tue for very reasonably priced tacos. Super tasty. Want to go back on a Friday night when mariachi band plays(need reservations)
They have a huge selection of gluten free (GF) options in their menu which was a huge bonus. Service is great and atmosphere is nice as well. I tried the beef, tongue, lamb, and chicken tacos in soft shells. They add a lot of meat to each taco (they pack it literally) which is great and they were all tender and flavorful. But two main downsides: 1 - chicken, beef, and lamb were extremely salty. we had to add their lime/cilantro homemade suace to cut it a bit. Tongue was not that salty so I d probably get that one again next time. 2 - they served the white corn tortias bud mine got a bit soft in the middle and it fell apart when I picked the shells - they might be adding too much suace that soaks in the taco shells. Menu is a bit pricy too for what they offer. for two of us, we had 8 tacos (and just water) in total and total after tax was around $80 + tip. overall, good experience and would only get the tongue tacos if I go back. thank you. Dietary restrictions: gluten free
Awesome! Exactly what we hoped for! Great tasting food, kind, friendly service! And fun atmosphere. Food was bright, flavorful and not too spicy. Sauces smoky and hot, if you want them. Will come back again! Food
Tacos
amazing service and hands down best birria ive ever tried
It was just meat plopped in a stale tortilla. It was so disappointing. Open your food before getting home to make sure it is actually edible. Had to throw ours away.
Tried chili tamale with cheese, mole and tongue tacos, and carnitas gordita all exquisitely delicious. My favorite: gordita de carnitas!!
Great food, great ambience and the mariachis are fantastic. I love this place.
The food is very good but what they serve is very little, it is a little expensive for what they give
Came in at 6:10 left at 6:37. They served other tables that came in after us. No cutlery, no drink order, no water. I like to support local. They don t deserve our business. Good riddance
Great authentic food.
Very bad experience the food too expensive And the food tastes is very bad please guys don t spend your money her .
Went with a friend to see the mariachi band. I loved their performance! Regarding the food, the portions are terribly small, and the price high. The drinks are tasty. The service is excellent.
Good good and good atmosphere
Food alright, service was really bad , wont be returning
Great food and atmosphere. Amazing food and margaritas. Service was good. Thanks. 10/10. Will be back again. Food : 5/5 |
Small portions, very low alcohol margarita, not very impressed by the food. However the service was good.
Amazing food and great friendly service. Highly recommend!!
Been here twice and the food is fresh and delicious!
I was there with a group of 12. The food took very long to arrive, like 45 min. The quality was great but it was a bit pricy with respect to portion sizes.
Fantastic food with great service. Absolutely check this place out. Vegetarian options: Didnt appear to have any protein substitutes on the menu, but did have a few vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten-free options.
Not economical as before $10 for one taco . roast beef is a little bitter as well
We went there for taco Tuesday and had the vegetarian taco (delicious!!) and the beef taco. We also shared the churros. Everything was very good. Vegetarian options: The cauliflower taco was delicious.
To expensive
Great tacos and apps! Food is really tasty, lots of variety of tacos. Be prepared to wait for it to come though as its all being made fresh.
Delicious food. Fun atmosphere.
Been looking for an authentic Mexican place for the longest time. I have found it, the food is amazing, staff is so pleasant, new favourite restaurant.
Good experience at this restaurant. Great selection of authentic Mexican food. Servers were fantastic. Went for taco Tuesday and tried 5 different tacos with churrios for dessert. Would return for another visit.
I wish I had the option to give this place zero stars. My bf and I had dinner here over 10 days ago and I just can t forget about what a horrible experience it was. I ordered what they said was the most popular item. There was a broth that was SO excessively salty I couldn t tell you what flavour it was. I only had 2 mouthfuls. The little taco was also excessively salty. It was full of a piping hot liquid that dripped everywhere. I ate one of the 3 and only because I was starving. The portions were tiny. More like a snack or appetizer than a dinner. My boyfriend had a taco with lamb. Salty and zero flavour or spice. Incredibly bland and he couldn t eat his broth either. It was a tiny portion and was something like $26! It was such a bad meal that I m still mad about it. I even told the waitress that I couldn t eat it and she just smirked, said sorry and walked away.
The flavors of the tacos were very good. Unfortunately the meat was really tough. The service is slow and the staff are kinda cold. It was also cold in the restaurant and kept our coats on. The prices are on the high side for what you get.
Really great restaurant. Food was great and the service was fantastic too. I highly recommend this place. Vegetarian options: It was vegetarian and vegan options.
Way to expensive for what it is
Yummy. Very authentic. Great margaritas and mojitos Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Recommended dishes Carnitas Taco
I make reservations here for my birthday 7 oclock on a Saturday night. Their last call is 830 kitchen closes at 9. When we were finally sat down, we werent greeted for 45 minutes and when she finally acknowledged us almost an hour later we still didnt get any water. By the time we ordered our food and drknks it was already 8 oclock and we were so hungry and thirsty ( still without water ) we waited about 20 minutes for our food and then walked out and went to lonestar lol worst experience ever which really sucks cause I heard the food is authentic and good.
Delicious food. Tamales were fantastic.
The food was good and the staff was friendly. The basement washroom area has a smell like a sewer problem, but otherwise things were good. Parking: Lots of free parking around back.
The service and atmosphere was wonderful. The staff were very polite and helpful. The food is good. Overall, a great place to chill and vibe peacefully.
Best Mexican cuisine I ve had in Ottawa. The tamales are huge and very good. The tacos are also a good size and pretty cheap on Tuesday. I also had the orchata and it was great. Great service too.
Waited for about 25 mins, guests who got after us were attended first and no one bothered to even look at us. My name was not even on their list even after booking the table in advance. Unprofessional and short staffed.
Had a paint night there, which separately was a meh experience, but Casa Mexico really dropped the ball. They barely got drinks to us in the hour and half we were there, so we ordered take out when the paint night was over. Casa Mexico missed food in the order, the orders not made right, and the food we did get was underwhelming for the 100 bucks we spent. Mexican food in Canada / Ottawa needs to do better. Atmosphere was great.
A delicious adventure that is a trip to Mexico in the heart of Ottawa. Take the adventure to enjoy an incredible experience. The restaurant has a wide selection of meal options along with an extensive menu of cocktails and beverages. Service was speedy and attentive . Certainly worth a visit!
Good service and excellent food, mariachi night makes it feel all the more special of a meal.
I did not have a pleasant experience, the meat tasted a little stale and the cost of the quesabirrias seems very expensive to me, I consider the cost of the beef. Also I think they are not made by Mexicans
The mariachi band was amazing
The food is delicious!! If you re craving a spicy, fresh and creamy meal you should have the chilaquiles. The sauce was the right level of spicy but if you don t have a high spice tolerance make sure to mention it to the waiters. The mix of the cottage cheese, raw onions with sauce and tacos was just to die for! My favorite part of the entire meal was the drink - horchata. It was creamy and had so many spices. The ambience was cool, low lit and everyone looked like they were having a good time :) Vegetarian options: Vegetarian friendly:) would recommend!!
The birria tacos are the best Mexican food I have come across in Ottawa. Very good, I will be back for sure. Yeah, a tad on the pricey side, but you can t really compare the meal I had here to that of the Mucho, Gringo East Indian run Mexican places in Ottawa. This was top notch.
The best Mexican food restaurant. I hope everyone tries it
Great atmosphere, feels like you re in a cute eatery in Cabo and not a strip mall in Ottawa. Cool vibe. Tasty sangria. Taco options were plentiful try the avocado taco for something different! Paint night should be offered in a different room, we were there as a group of 5 and there were probably 18 people jammed in together to do paint night in the restaurant, no space to even put the paint down, couldn t even order a drink! Our group would ve continued to order drinks for 3 more hours beyond our meal if we had even a small space to put a glass down on the paint table. Couldn t hear the paint instructor as the restaurant was full of patrons. Vegetarian options: Avocado tacos were great!
Poor food. Small portion. Not worth it.
It is not like the authentic food I ate in Mexico..
Firstly: Food is authentic and excellent. Service and prices, however, are outrageous. $37 for nachos. Bill incorrectly brought with a six-or-more surcharge for a group that was less. Have had better Mexican food for half the price elsewhere in the city. Very disappointing given reviews of others. Honestamente nos sentimos robado.
Mediocre. Taco were super plain. The meat filling is tasty but without cilantro and toppings it was lacking. The taco bread is legit tho.
Very very good food and super nice atmosphere with lots of fun decor throughout the restaurant. Some items can be a little bit pricey but worth it imo!
Mariachi fun... ..What an excellent little spot on Merrivale rd. My wife and I went on our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised by the warm and exciting atmosphere. The food was very authentic and the servers were most gracious, but the atmosphere was just an out of the park home run. We happened to be there on a Friday when the Mariachi band was playing, talk about setting the mood. They played a song for my wife and I and she got teary eyes when they sang. Great Mojitos and great fun. Highly recommended.
Great atmosphere and delicious food!
The margaritas were excellent, the food was very good. Service was amazing. Corn tortillas only. Allergy friendly which was much appreciated! The steak tacos were the best things we had and the desserts were very good. It was close to five stars, but the tightly packed plastic tables were a downer and all the food was very good but not necessarily amazing, although our preference flour tortillas may skew our viewpoint a bit. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free and allergy notes were great
Awesome food and service
Love taco Tuesdays here.... drinks are great too.
The first time I went the food was delicious, especially the nachos. Came back two more times with my family and received rude service from the waitress. The last time I went and will ever go we ordered nachos for the table. Nachos with chicken was not cooked. The cheese was not melted and the chicken was cold! Then our tinga tacos came out and it smelled like the chicken had gone bad! I was disgusted. Never coming back here again.
SO MANY gluten free options, it was paradise for someone like me, with celiac and looking for that little GF on the menu... There were a LOT of gluten-free options marked! Definitely going back.
We were served in 30 minutes with a full house and mariachi. Quesabiria is home made full of flavor.
My fave Mexican food in Ottawa
First time visit. Was super excited, ended up super disappointed. After reading the reviews, I was expecting FRESH authentic Mexican food. Sadly it was closer to your standard Mexican chain food(bar burrito, etc.) served out of trays. The tortillas were not made fresh, clearly store bought. Food was all luke-warm and flavorless. We mentioned it to our server and instead of making it right, we were offered a 15% discount on our next visit. We wont be back. The mariachi band wad cool, but the food is what matters.
Not worth it.
Small comfortable little authentic Mexican restaurant. Food was good and service fast.
Visited twice now, and this has rapidly become my favourite place for Mexican in the city.
I cant justify the price for what you get. Im usually one who doesnt mind spending on good food, but not at these portions. Staff was courteous. 2 tacos and a tamale, no drinks, $30. $30 bucks? If you have enough cash, and small appetite this could your place.
Food was amazing and so was the service. If you want Mexican food this where you need to go.
Best Mexican food in Ottawa by far.
Easily one of my favorite places in Nepean, and one of the few that restored my faith in local establishments of the area. Excellent (and authentic) Mexican cuisine, served by people who know what theyre doing. And the Friday night mariachi bands are so much fun!
The was the best Mexican food place ever! The staff were so friendly and the food got to the table very quickly, the food was good quality and tasted so good. I recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant!
Awesome authentic food!
The beef quesabirria truly the most delicious, juicy and flavorful thing ever. I was told it was halal so that was awesome. Tacos are also great. Love this place, the food is always so good and satisfies that craving.
Good food, excellent service and a nice atmosphere, especially on Fridays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Got nachos with no meat. Guacamole was delicious. Nachos were covered with clumps of FETA cheese, yes FETA not listed on the menu. Horrible. I asked the hostess why Greek cheese on Mexican nachos. She had to ask the chef and came back with Feta cheese is close to Mexican cheese . What the heck! Give me Canadian cheddar. The shrimp tacos were drowned in pickled condiments and the the beef tacos were so dry they were barely edible. I wouldn t go back or recommend this eatery. ONE star is generous.
Had a great time here for my birthday on a Friday with Mariachi! Food was great, the staff were very hospitable. I highly recommend the enchiladas and the Elote! Its definitely a quality restaurant that I would return to! If you want to see Mariachi then I would suggest you make a reservation because it gets busy. We did read other reviews and I have some comments for my Canadian brethern. Firstly, the crumbled white cheese is Cotija cheese which is very tasty and a little salty. It looks like Feta but its not... Secondly, Canadian Nachos would use cheddar but this is not a Tex-Mex place like Lone Star (want cheddar? Go there!), They are an authentic Mexican restaurant. The staff are very polite and hospitable, like in Mexico or South America... They will not harass you or push something (their culture considers that rude), they like to give you your space. Vegetarian options: Many of the entrees and appetizers have Vegetarian options. Kid-friendliness: Definitely a fun and kid friendly place!
my friend and i had lunch and it was absolutely amazing. we both got the Quesabirrias and Chocolate Churros. the food was so fresh, service was great, the decoration and atmosphere was beautiful. we will for sure visit again, can t wait to try everything else on the menu.
Good authentic cuisine
Food portion is so SMALL, it is small then kid s menu items, And the funny part is, I asked, waitresses (how is your food portion size) my answer was-oh it s very big portions and they forgot part of my food Food
Amazing spot! Truly traditional Mexican cuisine! The atmosphere, cuisine, service, chefs, drinks (especially the margaritas) are amazing. And the portion of the nachos Not to mention on Friday theres mariachi bands that play. Overall fav dine in Mexican cuisine. Parking: Google maps tells you just how to get there, it was packed and plenty of parking. Kid-friendliness: There were kids there and it felt like a family environment! Very friendly
Nice restaurant, really welcoming. Attentive staff and delicious food. It felt fresh, just juicy enough, and there s a great variety. We shared a pitcher of horchata between 2, 2 tacos each, and chips with guac. I wish I would ve gotten tres leches for dessert, next time! I loooove the horchata. Please do yourself a favour by getting at least a glass. We sat at the patio, it s obviously right on Merivale so it can get loud, but my friend and I still have good hearing and we re still able to chat comfortably. And it was gorgeous out! Muchas gracias :)
I LOVED my food, but the two other people with me felt their dishes lacked flavour. Love the location, easy to park, staff was friendly and the place was clean. Vegetarian options: There are definitely vegetarian options. I ordered vegetarian and it was de Dietary restrictions: There were gluten free options. Parking: Easy to park, front strip or behind the building.
Excellent place to go with friends or family. All their food was delicious, I loved it, especially their quesabirrias and their desserts, delicious. Recommended.
I wish I could give 0 stars. Awful experience. We waited for 20 minutes and waitress never came to take my family s order.. other 2 tables were seated after us and she took the order ahead of ours. We will never come back again and I will share this experience with friends. Casa Mexico - Merivale - Sep 10 - around 5pm
Very nice restaurant, went on Taco Tuesday and got 8 tacos between my wife and I. One of the better tacos Ive had in Ottawa. Margarita and cocktails were delicious!
Came on a taco tuesday. Quesabirria was pretty good but relied too much on the broth. The meat was a bit dry on the regular tacos. Great atmosphere and service. Might be worth checking out their Friday night Mariachi band. Parking: Parking is limited and not well marked. Kid-friendliness: Family friendly.
This place is overpriced, the price for one taco is too high and some tacos are small and dry. I will not return for this reason. On the positive, the food has lots of flavour and the atmosphere is great. Service is very slow and could also be improved. Can you believe pictures below is over 50 dollars that s crazy to me
Tortilla soup, nachos, taco bowl, churro. Soup lacked flavour and was quite watery. Nachos were delicious and would be enough for a main course. Taco bowl was quite dry, even after adding salsa. Flavours were good, though. Churros were delicious. Overall a bit expensive in my opinion.
Came by the restaurant unplanned as I was walking by, the place looks cool and the tables and the interior gives out a really nice vibe which for sure elevated the whole experience we (3 people) ordered the Taco platter which has 10 tacos and 3 drinks Out of the tacos my favourites were the Birria (Beef), Tonga (Chicken), and the Vegetable option which had really yummy eggplant mix. The little spicy salsa and lime really compliments the tacos. I didnt like the Res tacos though. Loved the chicken Quesadillas The staff here are really nice and explained everything to us and helped us order and had a full smile on always. Definitely going again
Food was amazing, and atmosphere was beautiful! Will definitely be back.
Really cute and homey place. I had two vegetarian tacos (veggies and deep fried avocado) and soup. It was really good! I never saw avocado pieces in soup before and it was great :) the staff were friendly as well. If you dont eat spicy food, make sure to tell them in advance! I made that mistake when I thought not spicy sauce meant not spicy to Mexicans, but overall great experience, would go back when I visit Ottawa again :)
Delicious! Busy night, but service was still very friendly and the food a amazing.
This place is amazing! Food is top notch! Vegetarian options: They have vegetarian options. Dietary restrictions: They are very accommodating.
Tried 4 tacos for dinner, left to right: 1 - Birria: I guess I was expecting like, the full Birria as Ive seen elsewhere, where the tortilla is dipped in the consomme and then cooked. The beef was delicious, very juicy and flavorful. 2 - Al Pastor: Other places Ive had Al Pastor, the pork has had some char on it and had a lot more flavour. It was well spiced, but lacking that char I was hoping for, and I found the pork fairly dry. Somewhat disappointing. 3 - Chorizo: These were pretty good, my second favorite after the Birria. The chorizo was well crisped, there was the right amount of cheese on it, and the flavor was good. 4 - Beef Tongue: Ive had beef tongue before and this one had a different flavor I couldnt put my finger on, but it wasnt something I expected or particularly could appreciate, and it didnt taste like the seasoning used. A few pieces were also quite overcooked and tough, which isnt what Im used to with beef tongue either. The salsa verde was also very watery and made the chorizo next to it somewhat soggy. Overall, my least favorite. So overall, the tacos were largely fine, nothing special, the price was about average. The atmosphere was nice, the service was fairly good though they never refilled the water. All around, based on the high reviews for this place Im somewhat disappointed. It wasnt bad, it just wasnt as good as I was expecting. Dietary restrictions: They labeled NUTS very clearly on the menu, and also were sure to label all the dishes that were gluten free. Parking: Plenty of parking behind the restaurant.
Service was friendly and efficient, food was really good. I recommend the birria tacos . Food
More authentic than the chains and delicious. Their mole is amazing, the shrimp tacos are outstanding and dont miss the churros.
We came here for Taco Tuesday to try this place out. The whole atmosphere makes you feel like you re in the movie Coco, it s so colorful and vibrant. The tacos were delicious, and the tacos were only 5.50 each! Our favorite would be the Gringa, the melted cheese crust really adds to the texture. The fish taco was rated the highest amongst the group. Shrimp taco was good as well. We also tried the beef tongue taco which had too strong of the meaty flavor and nothing else which is not my cup of tea. I would highly recommend trying out this place on a Tuesday!
This is not the review I thought Id be posting today but having just looked at the website I feel really cheated and disgusted that I eat halal meat! This really should be front and center on the menu! If you dont have a problem with that knock yourself out but for me thats unacceptable.
The Food here was just terrible. Only people in the restaurant and the food came out so fast. It was Fast as they microwaved something pre-made days or weeks before. Dry, mush, inedible.
Good authentic Mexican foods. Lots of GF options Dietary restrictions: Lots of GF ( gluten free ) options
The food, overall, has 0 flavour. It lacked basic seasoning in every dish (guac, tacos). The tequila margarita tasted like a watery lemonade. Despite this, the service was good and the mariachi band on the Friday was so much fun to watch!
Decent
The food is always so good consistently! Very friendly staff - always enjoying the meals there!
