Finally found a good biryani (halal) takeout in Ottawa that serves a good quantity with taste, and in a reasonable price. It is just a take away joint inside the grocery store but can bring all other Indian restaurants to shame as they sell tasteless biryani that cost 1.5x and pretend that it is normal as all of them are useless.

Honestly with the price surge recently, i feel like this was one of the better places i ve been in a while. We bought the goat and chicken biryani and the portion were huge! The goat biryani was amazing and so was the chicken one. I prefered the goat one though. One portion would ve been enough for the two of us. The service was quick, i pressed the bell and someone came to serve is immediately. It s also very conveniant that there s naan bread close by that is sold in the grocery market. I would recommend this place.

Betrayed! After believing in all the positive reviews and hypes about Amma s biryani, I ordered 3 boxes of Chicken biryani through Uber eats. Got a burnt biryani that ruined the entire party and mood. Generally, restaurants don t list the items for order if they don t have it or it s not good. More than a biryani experience, it s harmful to eat burnt food! Doesn t this restaurant know this? There is a general perception than Indian food in Ottawa is terrible. Its true!

We as a Church, for any of our fellowship meals order Biriyani (chicken, shrimp, vege) from Ammas. The servic is fantastic, taste is beyond super, quantities are more than expected and the price is very reasonable. Every comment from our congregation members so far has be excellent. If you love biryani as much as I do, you absolutely need to try it from this place! Ive tried almost every biryani shop in Ottawa, and I can confidently say this is the best by far. The flavors are simply incredible each bite is bursting with rich, aromatic spices that make for an unforgettable taste. You can tell they use the highest quality chicken and meat, making every mouthful a delicious experience that keeps you coming back for more. Honestly, it reminds me of the amazing biryani from the Gulf countries if you know what I mean! But what makes this place even more special are the wonderful people behind it, especially Farida, the cook. She always welcomes us with a warm smile and treats us like family. Ive tried a dozen different biryanis from all around Ottawa and Ammas is number 1. I ve been coming here almost weekly for about a year now and it s by far the best biryani for me Always spot on with the cook, the spices are incredible and the portions are phenomenal. The shrimp biryani on Fridays is something else. Not only is the food impeccable, the staff are always super friendly and accommodating. Have yet to have even close to a negative experience.

Very very excellent restaurant Luxurious food beyond amazing

A great take out hidden gem in Nepean . It is in the back of the Silk Road Foods groceries, not far from the Merivale Mall. I usually take the Chicken Biryani with some kachumber. The portion are big enough that I usually have some left over and its so good that I always lick my plate. Just a heads up that if you order large amounts or some of the less popular items you might have to wait a bit longer. Order in advance if you want to avoid that. This is actually a positive in my opinion because their food is always freshly made. The service is usually really fast. They always have chicken biryani ready and if they are out of kachumber it only takes 10-15min. The people working there are really nice and friendly. They always give me a second sauce free of charge and I never saw them pressure people for tips. I was also pleased to see that their non-custom tipping option start at 10% which is unfortunately rare these days. Highly recommended!

Been meaning to try this place inside Silk Road Foods for a while, and finally did. Prices are incredible for the portion size. You could comfortably feed two average people on a single order (I ate mine alone, but with minor regrets!) - but its cheap enough to get one each and have leftovers. Service was friendly and helpful. Limited menu means that your order is ready promptly, which given the take-out only location was a positive. Now, the food. I opted for the goat biryani and the other person in my party had the chicken. Very generous amount of delicious, bone-in meat in both. Enough chilli spice to be spicy, without being overpowering - perfect really. Wakes up the rest of the well-balanced flavours, but some folks who arent used to spicy food may find it a little challenging. BUT, the biryani comes with raita, a spiced yogurt condiment which, in addition to perfectly complimenting the meat and rice, also tempers the heat somewhat. And, if youre not entirely sure about spicy food, you can get a lassi/ayran to drink, which will help. Note that this is a plain yogurt beverage with salt, not the mango lassi you might know. If youre quite knowledgeable of South Asian food, youll be suitably impressed - youre probably the target demographic here. But, if your experience is still limited to butter chicken or tikka masala from western-accessible Indian eateries, this might just be the perfect jumping off point to start exploring the wider world of sub-continental cuisine!

I have ordered food from this place before but just meat dishes. I thought i would try the vegetarian biryani. The vegetarian biryani was the worse Ive had ,it was so bland . It had no veggies and was plain rice. Filled with couple chickpeas and 1 potato for the whole meal. I am so disappointed. I do not recommend getting the vegetarian biryani.

The biriyani here is more north indian style not south indian, so I did not enjoy it much. There was heat but not a lot of flavour. The chicken curry however was tasty

Delicious! Ive had their Biryani three times in the last month since hearing about Ammas on CBC. Goat is my favorite so far. Definitely a take-out setup unless you want to eat in a grocery store though.

Having tried all sorts biryanis from all over the world, I think considering how different Pakistani biryanis are. I would rate it as 4.4/5. Probably the best Pakistani chicken biryani out there in Ottawa. It was bit on the dryer side than I like, but overall the best one I tried in Ottawa.

Ordered chicken and vegetarian biryani s yesterday for Eid. The chicken biryani had a distinct burnt taste/flavour to it. It was so prominent that it was all you could taste. It was very disappointing to serve this to our guests. The vegetarian biryani was just okay. Overall a really poor experience. Would not recommend.

Came here for lunch, service was very friendly and pretty quick. Ordered the chicken biryani because it smelled so good in the store. The portion was good for the price, the package was quite hefty. As someone else also said, they did use food coloring in the rice which feels unnecessary to me. I also found 2 hard fruit pits in the rice. Im not sure exactly what kind, maybe an apricot or something, but at first I thought it was a piece of chicken bone I accidentally bit into, but it was a hard pit of some kind of stone fruit I think, and then there was a second one as well. Certainly not expected. Vegetarian options: They have a vegetarian biryani Dietary restrictions: They are largely nut free, and have dairy free options.

Its so far the best take away biryani place I tried in Ottawa. Youll can smell the happiness as soon as you walk towards the store. It also comes in Veg. option. Dont forget to order Salad and Lassi as drink. People who are running this place are also very kind.

Ammas Biryani is the best Biryani in town for the price, with out compromising on the flavour & spices. I ordered several times. Awesome biriyani and it is one of the best I have tried in Ottawa so far. The rice pudding is also one of the rarest of delicacies (called daan -e-malai) which has a taste that forever lingers in ones mouth. I was very disappointed. I ordered for 2 chicken biryani and 1 fish biryani. There was no fish at all in biryani. I am a regular customer and my family loves biryani from here. I travelled 15km today especially to get fish biryani for my child. My child was disappointed seeing no fish. I was told there would be 3 small fish pieces come with biryani. I got only one fish last time and this time none. Not sure if it was forgotten or packed up with intent. It is better to tell the client if you dont have fish to add. I will never order for fish biryani in future.

They cook three batches each day to serve the freshest..this will be our only destination for chicken and goat biriyani in ottawa... An update: I have tried your goat biriyani many times. This time I got a big boneless piece that was very hard and chewy. I am adding the picture and this one does not look or taste like goat. Restaurant is located at the back of the supermarket. Very good value for Biryani with different options and very good portions. Just make sure to come maybe 1 hour before they close because they can run out of food near closing time.

I saw great google reviews of Ammas Biryani and thought I would try it. I was a little unsure where the restaurant was exactly, but I did figure it out. It is tucked away in the back of the Silk Roads Foods Grocer store. I have to say this little adventure was worth it. To me, Ammas biryani makes the best tasting Binyani rice in Ottawa. The food is fresh, with lots of spices that make for a great meal. The raita with mint added great flavor too. They also sell non biryani food like chicken curry, which was good. The food prices are reasonable and they sell festive family platters, even though it is not posted on the wall menu. Ammas offers online food delivery services, which can be a great option. The Silk Roads Foods Grocer store that hosts Ammas Biryani restaurant is an interesting store that deserves to be a place to shop at as well. It carries lots of hard to find middle eastern food and fresh spices. Maybe you would like it too. If you like my reviews, videos, or photos just hit the like button while you are on the silk road.

Tried the biryani for the first time.. They got most of it correct although authentic biryani is def A lil bit more spicy and extra masala. I wish I had the option to choose the spice and masala levels cause personally for me it was a lil bland Meat was fresh though and well cooked.

This is a take out only place where they serve already prepared Biryani. Lots of people have rated it highly but my personal experience was not good. I tried their Veg Biryani and it was very average, would not go there again.

Found the biryani stale and the rice was actually dry and crunchy in almost every bite. And it looks like the rice is mixed with a gravy and not authentically made. And I waited for a pretty long time for my takeout order. Disappointed with the food!

Tried the biryani for the first time ... Taste is good. People is nice. But way too little meat+sauce, and way too much rice. Suggest to reduce the rice, increase the meat and sauce. Dont mind paying more if that is what is needed...

Excellent biryani and chicken curry, usually I am not a big fan of getting biryani at restaurants, as I feel home made biryani is generally better, but this comes very close to the home taste. Those who know Karachi biryani know there are different variations of biryani and this variety is a distinct one that you usually cannot find in North America, at least I have not been able to, so this is was a pleasant surprise. Similarly the chicken curry is also a different fare, not the usual stuff.

I loved amma biryani for its biryani and loved it more for their wings karahi. However, Nowadays whenever I try to place an order for wings karahi I m told they don t have it, Are you serious? If you never make it why do you have it on your menu. There s a young girl at the counter, probably owner s daughter, who always tell no to me when I try to place an order. I think she just doesn t want to work, just being lazy I can see it. Amma biryani should take this complaint seriously or their buisiness will continue to suffer because they keep disappointing their customers.
