Merivale Station Restaurant in Nepean

This establishment was recommended by a friend. Tucked away in a small strip mall this restaurant is no disappointment. Not yet 11:00 in the morning and this place is packed. Mind you there are about 10 tables but by looking around people seem enjoying their meal We seated ourselves as soon as one spot was available. The menu has a good variety of items at very reasonable prices. Oh did I miss saying they serve breakfast all day 7 days a week? I ordered their fish and chips on the owners recommendation. My guest ordered a poutine and bacon sandwich. Didnt mind the 10 minute wait cuz the restaurant is owned and operated by the most friendly wholesome couple Ive ever experienced. Once the food got to our table we could not believe the size of the portions. We looked at each other and asked if wed be able to eat it all....WE DID. The size of the poutine could have easily satisfied the two of us. And the fish and chips? Never have I seen a portion that size for the price. Six huge pieces of the best Ive tasted in so many years. Theyve out beat the so call pubs here in Ottawa that claim they are the best. I suggest they take a trip there and learn what it is to cook real fish and chips. I mean the batter was crunchy the fish was fresh and delectable. No disappointment. So full my guest took his bacon sandwich home. Two days later we had to try their breakfast. Boy they sure didnt skimp on the portion and quality Served as per our order. Great great place. To the owners? Please please dont stop what you are doing. Every eating establishment in Ottawa should follow your example on how to serve quality food and reasonable prices AND satisfy your customers appetite so they will come back. I know the top mark is 5 but I give you a big fat 10. Congratulations.

I am so glad I discovered this place. Amazing portions for the price. Quick diner food with all-day breakfast. The place is always full, and it has an open kitchen. Even though they recently increased their prices I cant complain! Still a bargain in my opinion.

Food is so oily. You don t taste anything but oil. My SO said the meat he had was burnt to a crisp. Server was lovely, wait time ridiculous for the quality of food. Not even pepper could have fixed the flavour

Clean Open Space. Thats all you get. Ive regretted my life choices so you dont have to. Service is slow with a frumpy face. I figured out once the plates got to our table why it took forever. The cook was making sure there is no more sign of anything edible on it. Come on - the bacon doesnt need to be burnt to a crisp. Think of Wilbur. Omelette was somehow even too salty for me to finish, and yeah most of the food remained on the table. NO TIP FOR YOU. If you are a regular, I feel sorry for you. Your childhood must have been awful.

Merivale station is an excellent option for breakfast or lunch at a very reasonable price. The servings are absolutely huge! The interesting little wrinkle is that they offer some expanded Greek options you may not see at most diner-style joints, like the option to add gyro meat to your breakfast platter, or Greek salads. Almost all the offerings are on average $5.00 cheaper than the competition on this side of the city, and the restaurant has strong, slightly bitter coffee for just $1.75. Its not particularly child-friendly, not offering booster seats, but there are tables with a bench on one side of the restaurant that could be okay for smaller kids. The restaurant is small physically and runs on a staff of three, so expect to wait if you go at peak breakfast hours.

Its a small place and 3 people working ,so be patient. We waited a half hour to get a table but it was worth the wait. Got a BLT and club sandwich for less than the cost of two Combos at a fast food place...even with a tip. Food : 3/5

Visited for the first time after passing by and hearing great things about it. But be warned, the wait time were so long! We dropped by Saturday around 1PM and waited over an hour for a table, and around 40 minutes for food. So about 2 hours in total. Prices and portions are fantastic. Not too many spots in the city, or anywhere to be honest where you can get a decent meal for these prices. Breakfast Supreme was a great deal at $14.99, 3 pieces of bacon, sausage and ham, 4 pieces of very nicely buttered up toast, fruits and perfectly cooked eggs as well as home fries. The meats were pretty close to being burnt black with a lot of black burnt bits stuck to it and a bit salty, but the eggs and home fries werent seasoned so it balances each other out. Fish and Chips were a fantastic deal at $10.99 for 6 pieces, the batter was so good, not super oily, very crunchy, juicy. Usually at other fish and chip spots, I get sick of eating it since I dont like the oily texture/how heavy it is, but here, I had no problem downing all 6. Also the Coleslaw from the Fish and chips were some of the best Ive ever had. Not sure if they always make it fresh to order but we saw them grating it up in the back. It was so fresh, creamy and refreshing. Overall, definitely worth visiting, a solid 9/10, just maybe not worth waiting 2 hours like we did. Will have to try dropping by again during non rush hours.

This reminds me of 80-90s dinner Cafe. Everything is home made, and fresh. There is no real decor but friendly enough staff. Tables and floors were clean. Ill be back!

Excellent pricing and big servings. However, after waiting a half hour for the food, it was Meh. I ordered the hot chicken sandwich, the chicken was dry, and nothing seemed fresh. My grandmother ordered the BLT that came with burnt bread. My mother ordered gravy on the side for her fries (cavandish) and never got it. Im not sure if we got charged or not since the server refused to show us the receipt.

This place is a must visit if you are local to Ottawa, go there for prices and the food quality, you cannot find this anywhere else.

The food was ok but the service was very very slow. The restaurant is small, very basic. We were in on a Saturday around lunch. 1 waitress, 2 cooks, thats it. It took about 5 mins for coffee and juice, 45 mins for eggs (breakfast meal), 1 hour for fish and chips and over an hour for a burger. The fish and chips were decent, HUGE portion. The burger was bland, waaaay bigger than the bun which made it very difficult to eat. I get this is a simple diner but I expected faster service. Otherwise, the prices and food are ok. Just ok.

I was really looking forward to this place after reading through reviews. I dont get it at all. The food was meh at best. We stood and waited for close to 30 min for a table, which was our decision and not at all a problem. Once we were in, the 2 tables that sat pretty much the same time as us had eaten and in the process of paying, and we hadnt even received our food yet. The food itself lacked flavor and seasoning.

Heard great things, stopped by on Sunday morning for breakfast and I was totally sold. Home cooked home fries, great portions and ridiculously inexpensive. Can t wait to try lunch.

Meh. Only one waitress and she was very busy. Waited too long for service, and to get a coffee. Ordered the supreme breakfast, price was reasonable and it was a good amount of food. Too bad it was all cremated. Couldnt get the bacon on my fork because it just shattered into smaller pieces. Eggs were over done. Only thing that wasnt burnt was the toast, which was just warm bread. Even the coffee tasted burnt. Wont bother with this place again.

The food was amazing as were the prices! I am still in awe of how great the prices are. There is usually a wait but once seated I didn t feel rushed. Am retired and on tight budget but this was affordable and food was very good. I use a walker and was still able to get around in this small but cozy place.

Walked in, all of their tables were full but not in an overwhelming way, since there were about 10 total tables. Waited 10 minutes for someone to greet us. Finally the waitress comes up and tells us it ll be 45 minutes, directly after we saw a table ask for the bill We heard good things about this place but the attitude and blatant ignoring we received was ridiculous.

Dedicated Albanian couple serving delicious food in their clean restaurant with generous portions at prices from years ago. Plenty of parking. Pickerel dinner took 15 minutes for huge tasty salad with cheesy garlic bread and 10 minutes later the best pickrel and chips I had in 30 years. Unlimited coffee. Client service oriented owners. Quiet place, people too busy eating their food. Washroom is clean, but small.

I sat down at 950 for a 2 eggs ham breakfast with coffee and water. I drank my water and coffee over the next 40 minutes. Never once checked on for a refill or top up. Never had anything said to me at all by the server. By 1040 I tossed a toonie on the table and left. Terrible service. Unfortunately.

I discovered this place because Pi Squared moved to this mall. I went for breakfast and it was amazing. Good thick bacon (not the thin see-thru bacon so many places now serve) I was pleased with the prices and free refills on coffee! What more could you want? Thanks

Oh what a gem of a place, a new regular!! So glad to have found it and tried it. Very clean, affordable and large portions!! We had the supreme breakfast and three egg omelette, it was very filling. Very homely feeling. You have to go early else there is a waiting for about 10-15mins but its worth it. No big hype, no big reservations. Simple menu but five start quality and service.

Called the restaurant on the evening before to confirm if I needed a reservation for breakfast. None was required so we showed up in the morning at 8am as thats when they are open and the place was closed, no sign of anyone inside. Waited 20 mins and left. Was not impressed as I had out of town guests to entertain. Will not be returning to this place. If you advertise your doors are open at 8, then be open.

My wife, two children and I just had the pleasure of eating here. The establishment is very nice, and food is amazing in comparison to anything Ive tried in the longest time. As we were finishing our meal, the nice lady that works there informed me a gentleman had paid for our meal. I have no way to ever thank this man, so if youre reading this Thank you very much from my wife and I, our luck has not been very good lately. Honestly we saw how good the reviews and we decided to give it a try. And omg we waited ten min to get coffee and then waited over an hour for food. I asked the server/ owner and it wasn t even started yet. Insane for two breakfasts. And we just left without our meals. Don t go here unless you have time to waste. Oh and just to add it wasn t even busy lol

What a great diner. Clean and friendly. They got jammed with people so I took my order to go. Could possibly use one more staff to run and clean. They do everything right, and they do it at their own pace. There are only two of them, and its slow, around an hour from arrival to getting food if you wait for a table for a bit then for the food to come. Its worth it! Always perfect, great quality, big portions, great prices and nice service!

Service was extremely slow. Food is mediocre at best. While portions are generous, the food is not high quality. Cheap, salty bacon, and the French toast wasnt good. It tasted like it was made with beaten egg and bread, without milk added to the egg. Definitely wont return.

The Fish n Chips are super tasty and you get a very generous portion of both fish n fries and a whopping plate of coleslaw. The service is pleasant and efficient. Fairly small spot and nothing special in terms of atmosphere and decor but well worth the food.

Great hidden gem with classic diner fare. They get busy on the weekends so expect a wait at peak lunch hours. The menu is short and sweet and the prices are super affordable. Flavours are pretty good, nothing spectacular but the portions are also huge. Service is quite slow since theres only one server, but even then, the prioritization of certain tasks could improve (ie. take orders before doing a round of coffee refills).

Its been a long time since I finished off a plate of food and felt it was an accomplishment. Forget the big chain restaurants, this place does exactly what its supposed to. My only piece of advice, tip them well, we need to keep places like this alive.

Food was plentiful and tasted great. Prices were outstanding. Service was a little slow but you can forgive that for the price youre getting. Easily half the price of other places around. $24 for two meals. Thats an inflation buster right there.

Husband and I ate here for the first time today. Went for a walk while waiting on our car at the shop, and stumbled upon this little place. All day breakfast, lunch & dinner. Great prices, and HUGE portions for the price. The waitress was great, very friendly. And the food was yummy. Would definitely go back. Nice quiet little spot :) Dietary restrictions: The substituted tomatoes and cucumber for me, as I couldnt have the home fries.

My first time here. The mushroom and cheese omelette was very good and great value. Table was clean, service was great and friendly. Check them out!

Great little mom and pop type food. Be prepared to wait, as there are less than a dozen tables and about 2 or 3 staff. It is first come first serve and they are all working hard. Their portions are big and their pricing is small. Great bacon!!! You can have breakfast, lunch or dinner all day. Their menu is simple but their food is good. We would come back anytime. 2 of us ate well for less than $25.

This has become my favourite regular breakfast place in Ottawa as you get a lot of food for your money and they have the best (for me anyways) breakfast potatoes. Note that they dont offer decaf coffee and when it is busy it can take a long time for your food to arrive as there is only one cook.

Good food at affordable price

Its perfect if you are looking for a classic diner. Simple but new decor, standard menu items, cheap prices and huge portions. I shared an omelette. It was served on two separate plates, and both were huge. When i told our waitress that we has ordered only one, not two meals she just smiled. Service is slow, but great if you aren t in a hurray.

If its busy the wait for food and coffee is long. I have been here a few times the food is okay. Last time I brought friends and it was the worst, asked for crispy bacon and all 3 off us couldnt eat it as it was so burnt. I sent mine back and the replacement was almost as burnt. Wont go back.

A small community style where loyal customers chat, recognize each other and say Hi as they come in. Be prepared for large portions and affordable prices! Our favourite Restaurant!

Wow, wow, wow. The value, to quantity to taste is a-maz-ing! Our party of 8 had everything from a HUGE fish and chips plate, to burgers, to chicken club and even poutine. Everything was served fresh (can see the chef hard at work), and by a sweet waitress who was working the resturant to keep all the customers happy. Went in on a whim, and was really happy we did. Cant wait till my next trip to Ottawa to give their breakfast menu a whirl. Only suggestion; arrive early as the resto fills up quick!

Has immediately become my favourite restaurant, and not just because my workplace shares a parking lot with it! Great prices, great food, large portions. I even brought my family in for lunch on the weekend and I live 45 minutes away. Give this little place a chance, youll love it

New plaza and restaurant, very homey and a very personal experience run by two people. I normally frequent breakfast diners all over Ottawa with my friends and this diner swept me off my feet, the prices were GREAT, portions were HUGE, many options to change your meat and the gyro is AMAZING, my friends and I could barely finish our meals and we had a lot of fun and this is my new favorite place to go to whenever I want to start my morning or afternoon! Vegetarian options: Many choices to eat and you can substitute, no need to have a meal with only meat. Dietary restrictions: I dont eat pork so I was happy to know I had a lot of variety to substitute my meats, lots of variety to change up the meal as well in the menu. Parking: Lots of parking space, huge new plaza complex! Kid-friendliness: Family style diner, all kinds of people are here and the staff are kind and heartwarming. Wheelchair accessibility: Its in a new plaza with fresh pavement, you can get onto the sidewalk and be able to go in at ease.

Opened in August/September, I finally got a chance to have breakfast here. Finally, a place that offers a non-pork meat option on the menu. And, as you can see, very generous portions for a very fair price. I plan to return often!

This place is phenomenal. The service is exceptional, the food is cooked to perfection, the portions ensure you never go home hungry! The price of this homestyle cooked food is more than reasonable. I bring my family and friends anytime we want to go out to eat a good old fashioned hearty meal. The owners, a husband and wife duo are amazingly kind people and know how to make a meal unforgettable!

Very good place!

Fantastic food. Friendly staff. Crispy and tasty home fries, perfect bacon. Not that cheap ribbon stuff, but thick meaty, to die for, bacon goodness. MMM, did I mention they had bacon? Will definitely be back.
