Nothing to write home about. It was good what I expected. The place is missing ambiance in my opinion

Had the large Carne Nachos. Could have counted the nacho chips on the plate. While the cheese and beef was an ok amount, it needed double the chips. Make it look like its worth $24...

Google says theyre open until 10pm on Saturdays, I called at 8:20pm they were open, drive 20 min to walk in and they said yeah, we decided to close early I said okay then can I order some take out... the response? No, they already started cleaning....... no wonder this place has no customers on a Saturday night..... TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT SKILLS. Update**** management contacted me through my review and offered a sincere apology, and offered me a gift card for the miscommunication, so I updated the review from 1 star to 3.

Great place to take the kids, but the food Ive eaten there is bland and salty. Kids eat it and like the kids meal tacos, so we keep coming back. I wish I could find a menu item I could enjoy as much. Vegetarian options: The vegetarian burrito seems to be filled with just the same bland, salty beans and rice that come as a side. Dietary restrictions: A few gluten free options. Kid-friendliness: Great for kids. Kids always like the kids menu that they can colour on.

Yesterday, my family and I went for a lunch at Mexis. We often hesitate trying new places as my daughter has allergies. Our server Kyle made sure everything was ok for her to eat and that we had a great dining experience. Great engaging and energized server, delicious food and overall a very enjoyable experience Dietary restrictions: Child with allergies. Kid-friendliness: Our server Kyle made sure our daughter enjoyed her dining experience by engaging with her directly and reassuring her the food would be prepared according to her dietary needs.

Prices have significantly increased even for their appetizers , it wasn t super fresh food. Bathrooms needed some cleaning .

You could smell the urnals and the pee from the restaurant was sick after I got home from the chicken fajitas

Really poor dining experience. The waitress was great, no complaints there, however the meal was not good. It was clear that it had been sitting in the fridge/freezer until it was heated up. My steak quesadillas were poorly flavoured, and the steak tasted burnt. The queso was flavourless. My friend ordered the chili and it was frozen in the middle. Overpriced for really tasteless/nasty food.

Visited over the Thanksgiving Weekend in 2024 on a Saturday evening. I remember the old Dows location fondly and this was a disappointment. We found a sparsely decorated restaurant, with no music, with a background accompaniment of the sounds of the dishes being washed. It was understaffed for the crowd with no manager in sight. The food was satisfactory for a fast food chain or cafeteria level of quality. The staff were friendly and organized but they were short by two. This has the hallmark of a franchise being being run at the bare minimum. Will avoid in the future.

I ordered the tacos and was expecting an authentic Mexicans flavour, but it fell short. Margaritas where OK and the service fantastic. Price was over the top for the quality of the food.

Mixed review Food and drinks were excellent. Service though.. I don t know her name, didn t tell us when we were being served. We had a young blond server who was obviously busy with a lot of tables however, she didn t write our order down. So I ordered corn queso to start with Texas tacos and upgrade to loaded fries.When I realized she didn t ask which shell I wanted, I flagged her down to let her know what I wanted. She had punched in Texas chili. No harm down since I flagged her down before the food was brought out. Once the food has arrived, I noticed a received a BIG portion of loaded fries. I thought it was abnormally big but everything was bigger here than the dows lake location. It s only when we received our bill that I saw she had punched in a meal size loaded fries which is 10$ more than just an upgrade. I understand that mistake happen but maybe continue to write down the order even when busy .

I came for dinner with a couple of my friends and ordered a mango chilli margarita and a steak fajita. Everything was amazing, our server Elizabeth was very attentive and considerate. Will definitely be back again!

Got Mexis in Moncton on a recent trip and the kids nachos were a big hit. Back home in Ottawa ordered the same kids nachos and they were half the size they were in Moncton. Super super small portion. Big let down.

Service was very attentive but it was also extremely quiet at lunch. The food was disappointing for price vs portion and the Rosas layered dip I had (15.99 starter) had pretty greasy ground beef so wouldnt recommend. Would be nice if there was a veg or chicken option or have beef as an add on for a few dollars. The pico de Gallo and guac was good.

Mexi s at hunt club has been consistently great in their service and quality of food served. The staff are super friendly, warm, generous and considerate with their patrons like me & my family. They have great vegetarian options and the quality is simply outstanding. Keep it up Mexi s that s why we keep returning! Vegetarian options: Great options for those who are vegan or vegetarian.

Last week we had the pleasure of your server Kyle at our table, he met every expectation and more, he continually filled our water, offered us salsa and chips and came back repeatedly to check that all was good with our meals. NOT a family or date night type of place. This is an environment for single men and sports. Basically prost. Disgusting. Delicious food, made me sick. Bathroom not truly handicap friendly. Starting with a water is good service. Wheelchair accessibility: Lady in wheel chair in bathroom was struggling, stalls not truly fitting for all.

First visit here and the cleanliness of the dinning area was appalling the amount of dust on the light fixtures above the tables were disgusting, glass between tables were filthy, walls, blinds had food and drinks splashed everywhere, cobwebs in window ledges by table full of dead bugs not appealing one bit wont return. Manager should hire a cleaner.

Absolutely loved our dining experience here. The lady who served us had exceptional service standards. I almost assumed she was the owner. The menu has quite a bit to choose from and the cocktails are nice. The prices are very reasonable.

Very quiet night but great atmosphere. Clean and well maintained restaurant with good service. Food was huge servings and all fresh, tasted great.

We waited over 20 minutes before any server came over to take our drink order, then about another 15 minutes before the drinks came out. We placed our orders right away and then saw several tables ( that came in after us) get their food and bills and we still were waiting. All told we were about an hour and a half into sitting before any food came out. We were party of 6 and the server came out with the plates 2 at time. Needless to say it was a while before we all had what our food and could finally eat. We spoke to our waitress ( who never introduced herself) about the inordinate amount of time that it took to be served and she said that it was because the kitchen processes smaller parties first even though they came in after us??? We could not tell who the manager was, as nobody seemed to be in a position of authority . No compensation was given and I really got the impression that the servers could not are less! The food was okay but after waiting so long we were kind of over it. I will definitely not be going back and would never recommend this restaurant to anyone

Worst meal out I have ever had. Took one bite of club sandwich was bone dry and no taste. Also got loaded fries which were soggy, cold and tasted like it had been sitting out for awhile. Service was awful, server did not even have a smile on her face and was unapologetic when I said my meal was awful. No comp or replacement was offered. If I could leave a 0 star overall I would. Save yourself the time and money and go to a real Mexican place like Lone Star. Also to add menus were visibly dirty and the lights were covered in dust.

I went there with a group of about 20 people, and wow, the service was literally so smooth and calm. It was my friends birthday and the house invited a cake and sang Happy Birthday along everyone in the restaurant it was an amazing atmosphere. I just have to say that there isnt really anything for picky eaters instead of nachos, but the food was incredible.

The food was cafeteria grade but at real restaurant prices. Served just warm, the rice and beans tasted like leftovers, certainly not made fresh. Nothing on the plate tasted like it had been made to order and served with any attention or care. Nothing was bad, just mediocre and not worth the effort of going.

This restaurant is missing something, the decor is like a cafeteria. Some servers are not dressed like they are going to middle school with houddies, I blame the manager for that issue . I was sitting in the bar area for dinner, we did order some drinks, we ordered the food and it came out 5 minutes after, did not have time to finish my drinks. The food was ok. I do get better burritos from the fast food chain.

First time dining at this establishment. They have a good number of choices. Our food was prepared quickly and seemingly had no impact on quality. It was great tasting with very good portions. Their food is fairly priced as well. The service was great. The interior of the restaurant is nice. However, during our visit, I found it far too quiet despite it being relatively busy. Music was a bit too low. I would have enjoyed a bit more of an authentic Mexican feel with some cultural music loud enough to be enjoyed. We would definitely visit again.

A delicious and delightful throwback to the old Mexicala Rosas/Annie & Clydes on Elgin st in ottawa. Clean, friendly and with prompt service. The Clyde burrito is a very generous platter and a must try. Also has complimentary chips and salsa while you wait! Hope this review was helpful!

The food and the service was great! The only thing that was a put off, was the place smelled like a dirty bar rag.

So I ordered a hamburger and it was not a hamburger it was basically Hamburg with a taste of fish in it I could not take it and it was not good at all it spoiled my whole appetite The service was not great I dont know if the kitchen is slow I dont blame the servers I blame the chefs or the cooks in the back but it was a long time

Pleasantly surprised. Fajitas were delicious and reasonably priced. Excellent tequila choices and margaritas. Chips and salsa fresh and delicious. Clean and bright atmosphere.

We were a large group. Maybe that affected the food and service. The waitresses were very nice but kind of confused with the orders. Everything kind of came out at disjointed times. The kids nacho meal was 5 chips and a handful of fries. They were nice enough to give us another plate at no charge. I would avoid the nachos completely, honestly. Most of those plates didn t look great. My fish tacos were good and supreme fries were nice. Margaritas were great though :)

I wanted to enjoy this experience since I havent been to Mexicali Rosas in a long time but the experience fell flat. We sat in the bar area. Two tables were occupied, and all others were dirty except for one. We sat there. The table wobbled quite a lot. I fixed it with some coasters found at the bar. It took quite some time for our initial greeting but when our server arrived, they were friendly and seemed knowledgeable. The lighting inside the restaurant was incredibly bright. Im not sure if it is normally like that or this was a one off. In my opinion, considering it was the evening, dimming the lights would have been a welcome addition to the atmosphere. Drink and food service was quick but I found the food either over spiced or under spiced. Nothing I ate or tried off my partners plate stood out to me but I will say that the value for what you pay and receive is good. Likely not to return in the future. For Mexican food in Ottawa, Casa Mexico does it best. For tex mex and family, stick to Lone Star.

Returning again today after a great meal and superb service by Kyle 10 days ago. Kyle is the reason my friends and I chose Mexis for this weeks get together.

Wow. I have never been to Mexi s before and I absolutely loved it- so much better than Lonestar even. The service was 10/10. Our server was a man named Kyle , and he was constantly attending to us, bringing us chips and salsa (which is on the house), and always made sure we were happy during our visit. He explained the menu to us, and took his time , although he was busy! While most servers don t actually care about their job, KYLE DID!!! Very happy and caring. Thank you Mexi s for the great time shared with my family, we will definitely be back! We loved our experience and highly recommend it to others. Vegetarian options: Great menu!!! I cant remember going there before, I had the nachos, they were amazing! Later I ordered the wings, the server told me the wings were large and true enough large and yummy, I ordered medium, they turned out awesome!

Service is decent. Food is way below expectation. Too much cheap ingredients(rice, smashed bean) were put in tacos or wraps to make them looks packed. Chicken is overcooked. I don t think it is worth to go again. If anyone just want a try, go for it.

Delish ! Thank god Peter recommended the single fajitas instead of the doubles to me and my petite girlfriend. We d still be there trying to finish (I would never leave a meal unfinished). We will definitely be fasting for the next 48hrs. But then will be back because I am on holidays and those original Margs were to die for !

Made reservations ahead of time but was told they were full when we arrived and that we had to sit outside or wait. Took 30 mins to get our beers and the plate of nachos took even longer. It was difficult to get the attention of any server as we couldnt get another round of drinks. The nachos were decent, just the service was very lacking.

Food tasted very good, but the portion sizing for the price just does not rank above 3 stars,unfortunately. I have stellar memories of the Mexicali Rosas at Dows Lake, and admittedly, it has been a few years since I went there, yet it was not a memorable meal. That said, the waitresses were happy, cheerful and very attentive,so their service fets top marks. Only that gives me reason to go back, the incredible service.

To my pleasant surprise, I had a very good time here. The food was delicious, the portions generous, the service excellent, and the prices very reasonable. Would absolutely come back. Great food, great service! Staff are friendly and polite and are on top of whatever you need! Bathroom is clean (ladies is anyway) Mexicalis is my parents go to restaurant especially for Mothers Day! My personal favorite is the Number 8 KM

Stopped in at Mexi s for a quick bite and a margarita after flying and dealing with long layovers in the airport and the whole dinning experience was just ok. The food was good but came out a little slow and the margarita s were weak and very tart. The staff was very friendly though but I doubt I would come back.

Good spread of Menu Items to choose from. Liked the ambience to spend with a group of friends. Not to expect too much of attention for yourself, with limited staff during weekdays. I would go there again given quality time I get for the oneself.

If you wanna pay 18$ (including GST + Mandatory tip) for a 9oz glass of wine and get yourself an overpriced tiny plate of nachos (which they re not anything special) then I recommend coming here. If you rather enjoy yourself and eat the same or better quality nachos and the same wine for 1/3 of the price then go anywhere else. The atmosphere was good but the same as every other restaurant of this kind

I took my daughter out for her June Birthday (16!) and for finishing her exams. She ate one of the nachos (with bacon!) and loved it. My wife and I split the Fajitas for Two (Shrimp) and that was a really good dish (they shrimp were cooked just perfectly, not overcooked and they were plentiful). We also split Churros with a Carmel or Dolce De Leche based sauce and a deep fried ice cream - those were also excellent. We had leftovers! The staff were good but they could have noted we were done eating the main course - it was notably longer given a nearly empty mid-afternoon on a wet Monday. Otherwise, the staff were also fine. Id give this a 4.5 stars if I could. I couldnt quite give it a 5 (in my head) with the notable gap of the waitstaff checking when wed ended eating. The best wait staff, on a good day, are folks that always know what you need (or at least are there before you realize you want something) so that you never feel like you should call for attention. But thats not a big complaint enough to drop a full star so I went for 5 instead of 4 because they were better than a 4. OVERALL, with the fall of Lone Star (whose prices went way up before the pandemic and their quality and options went down), Mexicali Rosas is where we go to for good Mexican food in this section of town and want a sit in experience. (Burritos take-outs are all over, but we can make great ones at home...) I would recommend this restaurant to others without reservation. Parking: I imagine it would be more busy at times, but theres a fair bit of parking at the strip mall it is next to and Ive never been unable to find a parking spot (once I did have to park 4 rows of cars away from the door but that was once). Kid-friendliness: My daughter (a teen) was treated kindly and age-appropriately.

Went Canada Day with family. One and only try at this establishment. The fajitas were not good. The vegetable and onion were not cooked. The meat was not well seasoned and was dry. We has fajitas for 2 people. There was plenty of food on the plate.... just inedible. For a bill that came to just over $102 for 3 people... this was for meal and soft drink each .... it was a shame. We had to take my senior parent out to dairy queen afterwards.

Visited this place on Canada Day with friends. The ambience and service was top notch. Loved nachos and fajitas. Portions are decent and price was fair. Crispy fried avocado wedges were okay. Fried ice cream was good.

This is a decent place to have a burrito for sure. The classic margaritas were great as well. We received chips and salsa before our meal which is always a good sign for any Mexican restaurant. The fried ice cream was okay as well. Well be back for sure. Vegetarian options: There were several vegetarian options for each category of food, i.e. Tacos, Burittos, quesadillas, salads, etc. We had the veggie Buritto and it was good. We will visit this location again for sure.

My guest and i left before ordering anything because the staff was uninterested rude & condescending.

Food was straight up bad. The portions were extremely small and the nachos looked like something a teenager would make when raiding their parents fridge for leftovers. Only redeeming feature was the wait staff which were working extremely hard.

In these pictures you see 95 dollars in food , yes 95 dollars , I also ordered 3 cans of soda with my order and they couldnt bother to add those . The whole family loves this restaurant. I am a huge fan of their chimichangas, and my husband loves their enchiladas. Their fajitas are great too and very popular with the rest of the family. The food is always consistent, and the service is always amazing. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

My husband and I stopped here for dinner and were very disappointed. Despite not being too busy (possibly due to long weekend) we only saw our server when she took our order and brought the bill. The food was really not good. I ordered the steak quesadilla and the steak was so chewy and none of the veggies inside (green peppers, mushrooms, and onion) were raw. My husbands enchiladas weren t much better. He said they tasted like canned tomato sauce. We are pretty easy going eaters and generally enjoy chain restaurants so I don t say this lightly: we won t be going back here ever.

If you want to go do not go in the late evening the staff ignored our table all night and didn t come to check on us for refills once. Couldn t even call someone over because they all hid in the back loudly talking and giggling. Worst service I have ever gotten

Not a very welcoming spot. We weren t allowed to sit in the bar area because it would be easier for us if you didn t . Several menu items weren t available. Nachos were awesome, taquitos and avacado wedges were terrible. Service was brutal, we clearly weren t welcome. Chairs up around us, music turned off, billed while still eating and forced to pay before done. In fairness was late, arrived around 8 and left about 9:45 but for a Saturday, really surprising we were forced out. Not the Mexis we remember and definitely won t come back.

I recently dined at Mexicali Rosas, and I must say, their chicken fingers were fantastic! They were perfectly crispy and flavorful. However, I was a bit disappointed with the presentation of the veggie nachos. Overall, Id recommend the restaurant.

Its very similar to Lone Star in terms of food menu with fajitas, tacos, quesadillas, etc. Service was excellent with friendly waiters/waitresses and food came out fast. I got the fish tacos and they were good. I definitely recommend this place.

It was a good night out with good food. Had their steak fajitas, and it was nicely seasoned.

Nice staff but the food aint the best. if yall want Caucasian mexican food then hit up this spot itll be your fav and just know your taste buds are not elite and should be ashamed.

Our waiter was very nice and let us in very close to closing time so we can have a quick desert. Very kind man, and great service. It was our second time there (were from europe) and he even remembered us from our first time there. We had deep fried ice cream and churros, which were very tasty. Cant wait to visit Ottawa again to come back to Mexis as well! Thank you :)

Good food and terrific service

Went here this weekend. Food was meh, not bad,not great atmospher is meh, service was good. Highly doubtful we will return.

Waitor was very nice, food was overcooked by a lot, was nice enough to give us a discount

where do i begin . 1. we waited 10 mins to be seated & we had a reservation too. the hostess clearly saw me , we locked eyes yet she pretended not to see me. 2.we sat down in our booth, i ask for water for all THREE of us, my husband, myself and my toddler, she brings just two adult waters. as if my child doesnt need water or gets thirsty. i had to ask again for a water for my child. 3. every table had the chips and salsa, except ours. we waited and waited and she never brought it. until i asked a different server if they stopped giving them out and she said no? did u not get some? , 4. as i am still eating and packing my leftovers, my plate is taken away from infront of me when she very clearly saw that i was NOT finished. this was barely 25 mins after receiving our food. 5. took another 30 mins for her to come back for the bill. 6. the layer dip was not layered properly and was in a tiny tiny bowl that made it impossible to properly scoop it. the rice was clumped up hard and clearly reheated and old. we will not be returning whatsoever. the east side marios across from them is much better service & food quality wise. what a shame. if you are reading this and you are a waitress/waitor, never rush your customers. DO BETTER. this is why some of you do not get good tips!!! this review is coming from someone that is very easily pleased and does not often complain when going out to eat.

They ve redone their menu and removed the best dishes. I was frankly really disappointed. The dishes we had were okay but that s it. The service was fantastic though. Vegetarian options: They had several vegetarian options which didn t feel like an after thought which is great to see. Parking: There is parking but the parking out is porky laid out for a restaurant and people do not pay attention to the stop signs. Kid-friendliness: Super kid friendly. They had great kid option s and the mask to colour kept my kid entertained

We had my spouses 65th birthday celebration. The food was good, but the service was lacking. We were in a quiet area, so we didnt see much atmosphere. Everyone had a great evening!

The churros tasted freezer burnt and were very very chewy. The rest of the food good. They only took 20% off the price of churros even though I only ate one.

Food was excellent with great presentation. The lunch prices were very reasonable, and the chips that came as a starter were very nice. Staff was extremely attentive.

Great food overall, friendly staff. However, the prices are a bit high, and the refried beans and mexican rice sides they serve with everything tastes awful, almost like it was scooped out of an old can, or like stale cafeteria food.. I strongly suggest upping the mexican rice and refried beans quality and freshness or replacing them entirely with another side.

Fantastic location, so much better than the dows lake location. Tons of parking, lots of seating. I had the nachos and they were fantastic. I just got the individual one which turns out to be quite small, but the flavour was great. No soggy chips either. Food

Food was quite boring just like the space 1and not very good. Beef in tacos was so hard my daughter couldn t chew it. The burger was a frozen patty. Chimichanga was kind of gross. Not what I remember from years ago. Sad.

Had dinner with a large group of 40 including 18 children. Excellent service and quality of food and drinks. Highly recommended for a group, family or couples. Recommended dishes Salsa and Chips, Steak

Ok, spot for Mexican. The food was ok. Taste was a little lacking, missing that wow factor. Found servers a little inexperienced but steady. Margaritas were watered-down some. Location is good. Love Mexican so will try them again.

I went with my friend. We had a couple of drinks and checked out the menu. Lots of choice on there for Mexican cuisine. Burrito, taco, enchiladas, chimichangas and more. I had the enchiladas. It comes with beans and rice. I forgot to take a picture until after I had started eating. It was really tasty. My friend had the chili and it was also tasty. (I had a bite ) I think Ill be back. Really nice experience.

Very good food at a good price

I went for lunch today as a group. The restaurant was understaffed and the server couldn t keep up with all the tables. It didn t start great - one server spilled beer on my friend s jacket. He compensated her meal. Another friend didn t get the right side to his meal, but the second server who took over and seemed to be running the whole front house herself, brought out the right side. We had to ask for refills on water. The server was crazy busy doing everything herself. The food was mediocre. I got beef tacos and there was barely any beef in the taco - not worth the money. I wouldn t go back. It took like 20 minutes for each person to oh because the server was attending to other tables between each person paying. I feel really bad for the server who had to work that shift. It was clear that she was doing her best.

At an afterhours party without food, the staff were friendly and flexible. The location is great and can accommodate a large group. DJ service was fun.

Update: owner called me back and ensured safety protocols are followed and staff were re-trained. Will update upon return. I has the worst experience at this location, the food is usually good at dows lake. I had a hair in my food at the Merivale location , the waitress asked me if I wanted something extra like a desert etc to apologize and I said I think about it. She didn t come back until it was time for the bill, I never had my food remade!!! I m so shocked. I left STARVING, I m currently writing this review in a Wendy s parking lot. My kids have school tomorrow and they must sleep, so I don t have another choice. It s crazy we paid 126$ plus 18 percent tip to leave hungry! That s absolutely unacceptable. I m still in shock.

The quality of the food has started to go downhill. Their deep fried ice cream has definitely become smaller.

The presentation was lovely and colourful The challenge we both had was we found our dishes lacking in flavour. My friend had quesidillas(sp?) and I, the vegetarian burrito. We both expected hearty, flavourful meals but they werent. Dont misunderstand, there was absolutely nothing wrong with our meals except they were bland
