This longstanding venue offers a fish market & cozy restaurant area serving classic seafood dishes.
With our guests, we had many questions and needed plenty of time to decide between interesting choices. Despite the restaurant filling rapidly, there was no pressure applied on us to get it done. The octopus is excellent as was the tiramisu for dessert. Several in the group very much liked their fish and chips. It is obvious that many of their customers are long-time regulars as it seems like a big family getting together.
Small menu, but it didn't stop us from enjoying the food. Apps were okay. The tacos were bland, but the spring rolls were flavourful, although overly greasy. Service was decent. I think the price of food was way too much for what it was worth. I had the paella, which was good, but the shrimp was overcooked stiff, and curled up. I barely tasted the saffron in the rice. The vegetables in the dish (basic carrot and peas) were frozen, from a bag. I will not be returning.
We love coming here! The food is always super fresh, it is a great spot, servers are nice too. You have to frequently ask to get refills but the food makes up for it. Would recommend the calamari, haddock fish and chips and the panko shrimp!
Really amazing seafood. The oysters are delicious and have good sauce pairings. My favourite dish was the Atlantic salmon with rice but other dishes such as the Tony's Bouillabaisse and fresh cod. The wait time is a little long but the servers are friendly and polite.
My first sushi experience was nothing short of extraordinary🤤😍🤩. The chef's skillful artistry shone through in every bite, the freshness of the fish ,leaving me craving more. Despite being a newcomer to sushi, I enjoyed every bite. For sushi aficionados and newcomers alike, The seafood grill is a must-visit destination that promises an unforgettable dining experience. We got the Platter A sushi so I recommend that since I loved it, you can explore more options 😊.
Some of the best seafood in the city. I've given it a 4 because the regular items are great but execution on the newer items is lacking. Portions are getting smaller while prices are going up. The sushi aspect is just weird and feels like a trendy cash grab. I've had multiple friends say its bad so take that as you will as I've not tried it yet. With the renovations I hope the beer options increase with some local craft options. The specials our group had were... well they were alright but not worth the price as there was nothing special to it. On the upside the fish and chips are the reason you come here as it is delicious. Fries have that fresh cut taste and they do not skimp on the size of the fish. Calamari is a must as an appetizer as they have never gotten the execution off when I've gone. The octopus was also nice and tender, not the chewyness you get elsewhere.
Check out my food blog Instagram for more reviews: @mimi.munches 💖 I find myself in the Nepean area of Ottawa often when searching for value eats, or for the huge variety of bubble tea available in this area, and have always wanted to try Merivale Seafood Grill! I've purchased their fresh seafood products before (sushi-grade salmon/tuna, as well as their oysters), and found them very fresh and fairly priced. So I finally dropped by to dine-in on their outdoor patio on a gorgeous day! . I actually went on two different occasions recently, and will share all the dishes I tried! . Appetizer - Calamari ($17): I kept seeing the calamari in their Google reviews, and had to get it. I was not disappointed - it was a good amount, tender, and the batter was light and not thick. . Soups - Tony's Bouillabaisse ($22): This was so good, I had it TWICE on two separate days. The broth is rich but light and tomato-based, with a generous amount of seafood (fish, mussels, shrimp). The portion was a good size, and was so comforting. . Mains - Pescatore ($35) Linguine, shrimp, scallops, mussels, clams, rosé sauce: This REALLY hit the spot for seafood pasta. The sauce was flavourful, and it had a good amount of seafood. I'd say portions here are good value overall, and the seafood is SUPER fresh. . Mains - Lobster Poutine (~$18?) This was one of the recent Blackboard specials, and if you know me, you know I LOVE poutine, so I HAD to try this, as I love lobster as well. It was a really interesting take on a poutine, with a lighter sauce, well-cooked fries, and chunks of lobster. So good, I finished it all in one go on my own! Pro tip: make sure to check their Blackboard specials on the inside of the restaurant, as they'll often have unique dishes not on their regular menu! The dipping sauce had a nice kick as well. . I recommend dining on their outdoor patio if it's a nice day, as it is covered, and cooler than the interiors. . Next time, I want to try their crab cakes, Paella, and grilled fish!
Update November 6th, 2024 Merivale Fish Market is back after a devastating fire and is better than ever! (If that is even possible). Enjoyed a delicious lunch of Tony's Bouillabaise. Try it and see if you notice the new upgrade! Perhaps the new photo will give you a clue. It was always amazing and now it's super amazing! I love this place where you are greeted like family and the food is consistently incredible. Kudos to Joe, Tony and Anthony for this great eatery conveniently located on Merivale road. Never had a disappointing meal here. I wish them many more years of success. Updated review January 2024. This restaurant focuses on seafood and although the menu is somewhat short, I see this as a sign of the attention they pay to detail. Everything I have eaten there from the crab cakes to the spring rolls, Tony's bouillabaise and the fish & chips as well as daily specials is always, without fail, consistently excellent. Today my mother and I enjoyed the bouillabaise for lunch. We'll be back! Thank you so much to the wonderful waiter who took such excellent care of us. And thank you for another great meal. Nice to see some local people working hard and doing well. Previous reviews: Excellent food. Nice restaurant, friendly staff and owners. Definitely going back for the delicious food. Tony's bouillabaise is consistently wonderful. I took food photos but I don't see any place where I can attach them to this review. March 13, 2021 So glad to be able to dine in again and what a perfect start with the best meal I have probably had in the past year. We had excellent calamari, light and crispy and absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were very generous. We shared crab cakes with a mango sauce. The crab cakes were light and flaky and clearly made with excellent crab. They just melted in your mouth. We follow that with some excellent fish-and-chips. The fish was crispy on the outside and light and flaky on the inside. We opted for they half fries half salad option. The fries were perfectly cooked, crispy and golden brown. We opted for Caesar salad which was generously coated with dressing and included excellent croutons. The most perfect meal which we both enjoyed with some glasses of wine and beer. Everything was perfect and I can't wait to go back.
Great place for awesome food
Family run restaurant. Fish is always top quality. Fish and chips are flaky and delicious. Highly recommended
Wonderful salmon, delicious key lime pie. A wonderful way to celebrate my birthday.
Had lunch today on their Grand Reopening. Everything was fabulous. They haven t cut back on portions or quality like some others. Servers most of them from before the fire were excellent. Well worth the drive for us from Luskville Qc. TUVM
Amazing food and amazing staff !
great fish excellent food
Opened again on November the 5th. Prices are very high, food not as good as it used to be-probably changed the chef? The salmon slice at 36$ is thinner , over cooked, add 8$ if you want brocolini on the otherwise empty plate!! Tiramisu - please get the recipe-the two lady fingers on the plate do not make it as tiramisu and thats a shame. Loyal customers may be increasingly disappointed or have dinner at 6 and supper in another place, at 8 pm. Good luck, anyway. Never coming back.
Joe is a very nice man, took time out of his day to show me how to shuck an oyster! 10/10 would recommend this place
Awesome food
The food here is always amazing. I never had a bad meal here. The only issue is its not a big restaurant, and most of the time, you have to wait to be seated because they do not take reservation unless you have a bigger group.
Good fresh fish. Service is excellent. Only negative comment is, if you are going to charge separately for vegetable side dishes for all the fish and seafood, portions should be much bigger than they are. Also, if you want to dine in a room below 25C avoid in summer. There is no A/C in the dining room itself. Closest A/C is in the section where they sell fish/seafood retail. We were sitting in dining room by the window. It was uncomfortably hot. A sweat fest and it wasnt exceptionally hot July day. This time I had the Halibut and chips. Was very good. Though batter was VERY greasy to the point it would drop when squeezed by knife lol. Service still very good even if for 5 mins after we entered not one staff member acknowledged us.
Food is great. Fresh fish that is delicious. My only issue is the service. We waited several minutes before someone acknowledged us. They were not busy and a few servers were standing around doing nothing. The food is great. The service needs some attention.
I absolutely love this place. Tony, Joe and their team of excellent chefs and servers are always a pleasure to visit while eating an excellent meal with family and friends. Happy 2020 !
Went there for the first time with my friend. I will definitely go back the food was excellent and the service was great. I definitely recommend it.
Staff were wonderful. Very helpful, nice and attentive. Sadly the food was not on the same level
I had the octopus and it was tender and delicious. The wife asked to take home her second piece of fish and the waitress forgot and so did we so I had to drive back an hour later. So mixed review. Atmosphere? There is none.
The fish and chips here is really good. Fresh and crispy to the max!
Prices have gone UP A LOT.... Will not lickley return.... Food
The server we had was very good and entertaining We had fun! The food was good! Food : 5/5
HANDS DOWNS BESSTTTT SUSHI IN OTTAWA !!!!! JUST AMAZING !!!!! The food & service are .
Had issue with younger inexperienced staffer. So the owner or supervisor gave me a deal for my birthday. I really appreciate his kindness. Ill be back when I can. Thanks again.Rob :-))
Food A1 Service A1 Food
Had fish and chips. The fish was undercooked, the fries were overcooked and the cole slaw was without any dressing. I was very disappointed.
Picked up some fish from the market for dinner tonight. Great quality fish and amazing service!
Fish and chips. Simple. You dont need to be a seafood connoisseur to appreciate it. And straightforward. So why does it need to cost $28 for a takeout box? It better be pretty good, right? Recently (yes, it was a Friday, March 2024) I took home the halibut fish and chips. It was ok. But not $28 ok. The fish was underwhelming, not as light / creamy and certainly not as tasty as I would expect. If I didnt know better, I would suspect we got haddock instead of halibut. Anyway. The fries were also average. I think weve gotten used to fries being average, but a week ago at a food truck in Little Italy I got fries that were far better, which was a good reminder about just how good fries can be. Overall the food was a bit tired. Far from a devastating comment. But Ive definitely had better from here since I first came here around a dozen years ago. And it wasnt just this occasion. I had a similar experience a couple of months earlier. So I called back a day later and asked to speak with the manager. It was clear she didnt care about my feedback. I was polite and objective with my comments. After I gave my feedback on the fish and then the fries, I started to tell her that the tartar sauce lacked flavour, the texture was thin and the sauce had no tang. She actually cut me off, saying she wasnt interested in hearing more from me. Its not surprising that a restaurant that apparently has stopped caring about the food, doesnt care about the customer experience. But it is disappointing. Conclusion: Id try the fish and chips again at $18. But $28 / $63 with tax for dinner for two in front of the TV? No way.
They have the best fish and chips in town. They use real fish (Haddock fillets) for this dish. Amazing! The server was so helpful and so nice to me. She noticed I accidentally dropped my fork onto the floor and immediately handed me another one, before I even asked. Thanks a lot.
Just discovered this place a couple of years ago. Amazing place for fish and chips and other seafood. We have been with friends many times and the food is always great. The service is friendly and fast. It is a little cramped but very enjoyable for lunch or dinner. Highly recommended.
Very poor customer service, we waited for them to get our order. Sadly, no body came. We went to the counter for us to give our order. It is not even a busy hour, only 2 customers inside and one outside. When other customers came, they were served right away, while we waited for more than 10 minutes, then we decided to come to the counter. Was here May 17, 2024 at pass 3pm.
We were 6 people dining in, and had a delicious dinner. We had the calamari to start, it was amazing, how fried calamari should be! The haddock and chips were so fresh and tasty, the batter crisp, and the coleslaw was good too. They have a nice drink selection, and we tried the fruit flan for dessert, it was light and tasted great. The place was busy and the servers were hopping. Can t wait to go back to this gem of a restaurant!
Avis : This past December 2023, like every year for Christmas, my husband prepared his signature shrimp ceviche. However, our usual fish market had closed its doors. So, we conducted some research and decided to try Merivale Fish and Seafood Grill for fresh shrimp. Unfortunately, they were out of fresh shrimp when we arrived, and the person in charge, presumably the owner or manager, went to the back and returned with a box of frozen shrimp, insisting they were the best. Despite our reservations, we trusted their recommendation and proceeded with the purchase. However, upon arriving home and beginning the cooking process, we noticed that the shrimp had a faded color and a spongy texture. Given that we have made ceviche many times before, we concluded that the shrimp were not fresh and had to discard the entire batch. It seemed as though we were given leftovers from their freezer. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed by this experience with Merivale Fish and Seafood Grill. I strongly advise against trusting them for fresh seafood purchases.
Have been disappointed with menu for a while.Menu has been more limited. No longer provide choice of grilled calamari, vs. fried.Big disappointment!!! Had fish and chips recently .Great disappointment!!!!! More batter than fish!! Unfortunately will probably not return after being a long time customer. Food : 2/5 |
Our favourite restaurant, bar none. Fish and every other dish (tiramisu, yam fries) great. Every seafood dish is cooked to perfection. Service is always great, no pretension. For what you get, prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended Food
In terms of food, they know what theyre doing.
Outside looked odd but inside, its really nice and the food was great too :) Good quality coffee and tasty seafood :P
Great place. Excellent food and service. Food
Had a great meal at The Seafood Grill! Got Tonys Bouillabaisse and it had a nice portion of fresh fish chunks (salmon and cod?), mussels, and shrimp. The soup was very flavourful and warm. Sides - I got vegetables (which were carrots and broccoli?) and garlic potatoes. They were pretty decent, but the stand out was the seafood. Service was great too, the food came pretty fast and the servers were nice. She offered me bread and explained the dish I was unfamiliar with to make sure I knew what I was ordering.
Mikey was our server and he was amazing! We tried a few items off the menu and they were all fantastic!
The take out fish and chips are sub-standard. Soggy french fries, fish is heavily battered. and greasy Texture and taste of fish overwhelmed by batter. I would expect some crispness and freshness. Quite disappointed, especially at that price point.
Thank you for service.
When a five years old finishes her entire crispy chicken sandwich (regular size) , you know this place is for win! Thank you for making wonderful food and helping us creating fun memories!
Our service was very efficient and friendly. We had fish and chips. My partner thought it was okay. I found that the breading on my fish was under cooked and mushy on the inside.
It was good, but not great. We weren t offered a seat at the bar, so stood in line and waited on a Friday night. They don t take reservations on Friday nights. We were not offered refills on our drinks. We had fish and chips, calamari, and Ceaser salads. The chips were great. The rest was good, but not great. There are better options for fish in the city.
Completely renovated inside from a shack to a boutique like interior. Overall great experience... We will be back... Parking: Parking was ok but limited. Wheelchair accessibility: One mobility parking spot.
Very very good place and staff are all welcoming
Had the fish and chips. The 2 pieces of haddock were tasty. Crispy and had the right batter to fish ratio. The chips were average. Slaw was ok.
Stop By for a quick lunch. Great service, fresh food. Good work Food : 5/5
Had an amazing time here and had the best server Benji. She was great! Brought our food out quickly and was so fun to talk to. Will definitely be going back next
Cod fish and chips and calimari. Yum
Love the Halibut and Chips and Calamari Salmon Cakes And Spring Rolls. All specials are mouth watering. You cant go wrong. A beautiful family atmosphere being run by a great family. Dietary restrictions: Gluten and Lactose kill me.
Delicious as always. Very attentive server.
Great food. Above all expectations.
Absolutely delicious, fast & fresh. Service is impeccable, super friendly staff.
Great service. Fresh product.
The best fish and chips in ottawa and its not even close. Fish is fresh like they just fished it outta the water, fries are 9.5/10 texture (just gotta add salt or whatever you like) The service and speed is amazing and consistent. Ive been 3 times, and every time they brought my food after 5-10mins of ordering. The first time I asked the waiter how long the food would take because I was in a rush, and she said it should take about 5 mins after taking our menus, but it wasnt. She lied. It took 4 mins. Will never get fish and chips anywhere else in Ottawa. Highly 10/10 recommend.
Its not cheap but are you? Great food. Arguably a hidden gem. An absolute beacon of hope for an otherwise ugly part of town. Take-out is great, quick, hot. Sitting down at a table, cozy. A must visit place if you like sea food.
Poor management, arrogant and pretentious. Never been disrespected like that in any decent place.
Delicious food and friendly service!
I truly did love this place from the fresh seafood to the food I found really good. Everything tasted really good. First time I tried The Seafood Grill from Ottawa. They also just told us the Sushi is only prepared on Fridays to Sunday and is a new addition.
Great food
I only come for fish and chips so Im not a great resource to trust on my thoughts so Ive likely under rated the place.
Delighted to find halibut fish and chips. And they did not disappoint; batter was just right, cooked perfectly and the chips are fantastic. They had no problem providing the additional lemon I requested for my fish. Friendly place, my only regret is that I went take out - next time I will dine in. Very deserved five stars!
Its a bit under construction when we went. But the food was great and it was a busy spot. There is a $5 fee for sharing a main dish with someone, which I found odd. Parking: Its challenging to find parking in that spot. Its free but not too many spots.
Variety of options. The fish is fresh and it is absolutely delicious.
Food is great but the last few times weve been in we ordered fish and chips and people who came in after us who ordered the same got served first. I will not be going back. Update it s been over 8 yrs and I have yet to go back. Food is great but service sucks
Love the crab cakes
Best halibut & fries in the city!!!
One of Ottawas hidden gems !
New favorite seafood spot!! Amazing service, great quality food at a good price. Vibes are also great everytime I come in Wheelchair accessibility: Very accessible, all on 1 floor
Great food and service!!!!
Incredible food service is excellent it s family owned and operated. I ordered trout by mistake but it was amazing. We had a party of 10 and we re accommodated easily.
Met a friend here for lunch. The fish & chips were good, salad was tasty. The cole slaw wasnt very good. We wanted dessert, and ordered cheesecake, thinking it would be typical cheesecake, and typically priced around $6 per slice. Wrong! The first clue should have been no price for desserts on the board. It was a checkerboard pattern, with a spice cake/carrot cake, and cheesecake, which was unexpected and not that great. When the bills arrived, we were shocked at the $11 price for dessert! While we may return for lunch, we definitely will NOT order dessert! That was a rip-off and not worth it. Those prices are expected at a high-end steak house, which this was not. While the rest of the meal deserved 4 stars, its only a one star rating because of the dessert being both atypical and over-priced. Had we known, we would have shared a slice. If you dont see a price on the board, ask! It will be a long time before we return.
Smells like fish food tasted great but took An hour to prepare
Everything was great. Staffs, environment ,and salad. I wish fries and fish were less oily.
I have been going to the fish market for years. Always had terrific service. They renovated the restaurant which looks beautiful. Today I went and was left standing for 20 minutes and told to wait to be seated. There were many empty tables, however the waitress elected to completely ignore us. We left very disappointed. You may want to ask in advance how long you will have to wait and be served before being seated.
Great fresh seafood. Friendly staff. Good idea to book ahead on week nights esp on a friday.
Super filling and great atmosphere. The seafood was very fresh and super flavourful. Staff was super friendly
I do like this restaurant - they have fresh food items including the sushi, paella and tacos. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience in the parking lot - the parking lot is very small and tight and often there is no parking. There is an area that does not look like part of the parking lot - it looks like the next doors property. I parked there because I was getting takeout and didnt know where else to go. A senior couple driving a black Dodge carvan started yelling and berating me telling me I took up a huge part of that spot and saying that it could fit 3 cars even though it coudlnt. Im not sure why some of the customers here and so rude and crazy. There is a nice way to speak to ppl and this is not it. Also, during peak hours there is often a wait or a line. My partner went to pick up takeout once and everyone was staring at him in a really awkward mean way, he ended up telling them he was getting takeout and everyone calmed down. Its not a nice environment at times.
This has been one of our favourite restaurants for many years. Undoubtedly the best sea food around. I very much regret that after this past Friday, they will never see us again. We arrived at 7.20. It was busy but we were told it would be about a ten minute wait. We we re finally seated at 8.00. Our order was taken immediately but by 8.30 there was still no sign of our food. When we suggested to the management that they might have offered to send something to our table while we were waiting, he rudely replied that how could he send anything - he didn t know what we were allergic to!! He then came back and reported that our order had been lost but was now being prepared. He sent two stale rolls. The meals came shortly before 9.00. Mine was wrong and my friend had a bit of limp onion for a vegetable and the waitress said they were warming up some more for her in the kitchen. We did what we should have done at 8.30 - we left! We will miss you, Merivale Fish Market but you really aren t the only fish in the sea!! Doreen Arnoni
The food is amazing fresh seafood inside the restaurant pick and choose, staff very friendly.
Food was delicious and the staff was very friendly !
we went here for my birthday lunch & all i can say is Amazing food !! + super chill atmosphere the staff is all SUPER friendly and so kind. their homemade tartar sauce is sooo good ! highly recommend the fish tacos must try. our food came out in a timely matter also! we had Anthony as our waitor and I wish he was my Waitor for every restaurant i go to he was wonderful! give this guy the biggest raise !!
Cant go wrong here. Try the calamari!
Got fresh halibut from the fish market and ran home to make ceviche with it. The fish complemented the ceviche very well. Very friendly owner as well; I was originally going to buy cod until Joe saved me and pulled out the fresh halibut once I told him I d make ceviche with it. Will definitely come back for more fish in the future. Cheers, Joe.
One of the best places for seafood in Ottawa.
Being a born and raised maritimer from NS, I can say without any reservations the Seafood grill is the best ever place for seafood and smiles. Absolutely love this place!!!! Really satisfies my down home seafood appetite not to mention the lovely servers and owners who are always there to make you happy!!!!
Tonys bouillabaisse is the best. I tried the Poke Bowl today. Food : 5/5
Very good Fish & Chips!! Good job on the renovations!
Last week I was at the Seafood Grill for the first time since their renovation started. The new-look at The Seafood Grill restaurant and Merivale Fish Market are very nice. I liked the new bar seating and how open and fresh the whole area feels. The Sushi, fish and beverages were as amazing as ever! I love the house Off The Hook on Tap! If you like fish, I recommend you go here, you cant beat the menu and some of the best grilled fish and fish and chips I have ever had (and I am a Maritimer!). I have had Lunch, Dinner and Takeout there for years, and all are delicious!
Good food, but having a large party delayed the meal for longer than expected AND attracted an automatic 20% gratuity. My advice; travel light and enjoy the offerings. Great sweet potato fries!
Their Bouillabaisse and Halibut and chips were some of the best seafood dishes I have had in recent times. Their Linguine Vongole however lacked the clammy flavor we were expecting and overall tasted very plain. Went back another day to try their grilled cod (catch of the day) and I was quite disappointed as it was cooked quite salty and lacked the grilled flavor. Also, the portion was very small for the price. I will come back to try other items on the menu as they are definitely capable of making superb seafood dish. Just a bit worried that certain items on the menu may not meet my expectations, but definitely deserves another visit!
One of our favorite fish spots. The fish and seafood are beautifully prepared. Weve had grilled pickerel, fish and chips, and drinks and it was very reasonable. Charming small little spot. They sell their own fresh. fish and seafood and the restaurant is connected to it.
Our favourite neighborhood place. Family run and we have been going for almost 20 years.
Amazing service. Very friendly and almost like a family at home experience. The food is 5 star wow. Parking: Easy access and free.
Love this place! Scrumptious food. Atmosphere is the best. The service is top notch. I highly recommend it.
Food was delicious, service was good. Dessert was great
Such a great time, friendly service, very accommodating even though our guests were very loud . The food was incredible as well!
Food is always delicious and fresh. Been a loyal customer for years.
That was delicious !!! Halibut ) fish and ships) outstanding
Service was slow. Food was great
Excellent food and atmosphere, but what really brought it over the top was the service! Our servers recommendations, playful jokes and promptness definately made an otherwise stressful workday pleasant.
Out of the 4 dishes I tried, the taste was not bad but I have had better. The rating might change in future as I try more options. Food : 4/5
After serving rotten mussels I was told its because its their spawning season so they can taste funny I been eating mussels for longer than this guy has been alive and never was served rotten breeding mussels before... And the grand gesture after eating 1 of these disgusting things? We have removed it from your bill Not, the drink is on the house or please let us pay for another appetizer the way properly run restaurants do to make up for a terrible mistake. This place is clearly not managed or run by professionals anymore its a shame.
Good seafood in Ottawa. The spicy shrimp roll sushi and the salmon cakes were delicious. The boullabaise was good also. Their fish and chips were fine, but I dont think fried foods are their strength. I recommend the fresh or grilled seafood here. Weve had the lobster here before and its been the best one weve had in Ottawa.
I love this place! The food it is always super fresh and very tasty.
The food tastes good enough but the. Value for money is terrible. Here you have 12 oysters for $39 + tax + tip. The issue: at this price, each oyster should be properly placed in the shell. The person who prepared the oyster sliced several of the oysters several times. Edit: I added two stars. 1 because the waitress passed my comment to the person doing the shucking. And another star for the main course.
Not the same as it was. What a let down.
I purchased a Cesar salad $18.00 with tip $20.78. I got home open up my salad. The lettuce was old, little bacon, lots of cheese. Very disappointed. Im glad I went next door and got a steak sub. Excellent Parking: Limited parking
Awesome
Roadside location with car noise belies the skilled chef and solid, if brief, menu. Some appetizers are a bit small and the price tag is as high as one might expect for seafood this far inland.
Excellent salmon. Friendly staff and reasonable prices!!!
Take-out order 3pc F&C Halibut Juicy and moist. Perfect to the taste.
Parking: Did NOT appreciate automatic 20% tipping. I decide what % tip is to be made NOT the dinner establishment. We may not be back if this is a fixed protocol. Food
First time there and I had a fish Taco with my man for take-out and I wanted to go back to get another one!!!! Sooo good!!!! Really recommend this place
The Seafood Grill in Nepean is truly a hidden Gem! The food is 10 star; they have creative and delicious recipes (try the fish tacos and the sweet potato fries). The oysters on the half shell are fresh and tasty as well. A relaxed and charming Maritime ambiance. Our server Lana was an absolute delight! She was cheerful and welcoming, funny and very knowledgeable. She along with the other staff were lovely. If youre looking for a place to have a great lunch, or just to unwind after a long day and enjoy an amazing seafood dinner, you cant go wrong at the Seafood Grill. M&D
Tried their hot calamari and haddock fish and chips they were both fantastic Loved the batter in the calamri and the fish was nice and thick, fries were too oily for my liking Kim our server was fabulous Food : 5/5
I like seafood chowder, fish taco and the spring roll
Fully renovated now with a bigger focus on the restaurant. Still the best fish and chip in the area.
Omg, this was our first time, and it wont be the last. Everything was delicious! Calamari, clam chowder, Caesar salad, fish, and chips....drool.
Super good halibut and chips. I will be back
Friday, no reservation was required to get seats for two. The food was great, although they served it a little late. Food
Love the changes to the restaurant, but the staff not very attentive or appreciative. I have been there several times, but doubt I will go back to be honest. A big deal to get more bread, and was asked several times if I was finished my meal with 1/2 left, and a glass of wine still to drink. Disappointing.2 glasses of wine, and a meal was $80 plus $16 tip, which was generous considering.
Parking: Side of bldg sloped little handicaped. Areas great. Staff Gret food Food : 4/5
Food
Food was piping hot and fresh. Absolutely delicious! Cant wait to go back!
Ive been going to this place for years and I cant believe Ive never left them a review before. The Bouillabaisse is proper comfort food. It tastes like your at your grandmothers house. Perfection. The sushi is the best in the city. Hidden gem of a sushi spot. The seafood spring rolls are indescribable - you just have to try them. The rest of the menu is amazing too
went with a friend for the firsts time to the restaurant, the food was awesome. but the most pleasant thing was the cleanliness and charming staff. They were very polite and classy and at the same time very friendly. they paid attention to the little things in there. I defiantly recommend to everyone .
It was a pleasant surprise to rediscover this place. Renovated and refreshed look, it is very inviting, comfortable sitting and extremely friendly staff. The food was fantastic.Generous portions and tasty. Do not Miss the spring rolls! Food
I ordered grilled cod with a vegetable side, both dishes were well done but the fish was moist and just right. The only negative is that I found the food was expensive and did not enjoy paying separately for the fish and the side. Delicious food, friendly service, nice atmosphere
Last saturday my wife called me and suggested that we have fish dinner . i went to Merivale fish market . ordered 3 pounds of some kind of fish and some shrimps The fish had no taste what so ever i may as well eat rubber . no sauce was provided and i was pretty much rushed into ordering @ $235 Rubber meal i say this was a very expensive one Again 3 pounds of fish and 8 pieces of shrimp . i could have taken my family to Red lobster eat and enjoy ourselves for almost half the price It was a very disappointing experience for sure . i would never go back
The food and service are always amazing, a family favourite!
A mixed bag over 3 visits: 2 lunches and 1 dinner and we got awesome fish & chips (halibut) twice, terrific chowder twice and one very poor version at dinner, perfect maple glazed salmon and rice one time and a grossly undercooked version another, excellent spring rolls every time, and a surprisingly poor version of linguine vongole (minimal garlic, misplaced anchovy butter, no parsley, no pepperoncino, no wine that I could taste and way too few clams). Very stiff at $26 considering .... We were also charged twice for one side of caesar - $10 added with the salmon itself and a separate $10 for the caesar itself. (This, we realized once we got home but no big deal .... errors happen). Anyway, none of this will stop us from going there, of course, so we will be back for the items we really like. Later EDIT: Well. Several weeks after the above review, my wife and I just came back from lunch at the Seafood Grill. Cup of clam chowder for both of us, cod f&c for me, and halibut f&c for my wife. The chowder was way, way too salty. My wifes halibut was barely ok and my cod fish & chips was just gross. Oily, thin fish, lousy batter with mediocre fries. Not even close to the many good meals weve had there before. Very disappointing!
Was very yummy
Consistently great food since 1993.
The food is always good. Our dining partners were impressed. The prices are not for everyone but we were treating ourselves to an evening out with friends. We were just down the street last night and we commented that we must eat here again soon (later this week or next week.)
Quality and very healthy portions.. Presentation and flavour also well above average! Incredibly friendly staff!
Always good although the menu is now much smaller.
Wonderful place and very tasty food
Amazing food, great service. Highly recommended to visit. Kids loved the food, my family loved it too
Two lunches here so far and two thumbs up. Terrific fish and chips first time, then awesome salmon cake special, nice chowder, perfectly cooked salmon with maple and sesame with rice and veg and an equally perfectly fresh and cooked grilled halibut. Very tasty, all of it and as fresh as can be. We will be back for more.
The fish here is always great, and service is friendly and observant. Its a bit of a hole in the wall so dont expect high class dining. My only complaint is that the breading can be a bit heavy on fried items, but the fish is always very good since its attached to a fish market. Parking: There isnt much parking here, mostly a few spots in front and some unpaved parking in back.
Terrific food, everything we ate was absolutely delicious!! Looking forward to our next visit.
Some of the best fish and chips in Ottawa, you won t be disappointed.
Food was nice and beer cold. Service a tad slow but we were not in a hurry.
Enjoyed this place, food was ok. Calamari was a tad chewy for us and noticed imitation crab in their rolls. The chowder was great. Other than that no complaints.
One of the best seafood place in Ottawa. Amazing service, great food, a pleasant experience Vegetarian options: Broccoli Garden Salads Soups Sweet potatoes Parking: Over 15 spots front and side
Enjoyed our meal
We looked forward to taking out of town family here for what had been one of our favorites - fish & chips, as well as a few orders of fish & 1/2 chips / 1/2 salad. We were greeted by our waiter on the patio, with our drink order taken, followed by our menu selections. Drinks arrived, food arrived & then all downhill from there. The meals were warm not hot & unfortunately, the fish was quite greasy on this occasion. To add insult to injury, our waiter never returned & no one bothered to check on the food or drinks, offer coffee or dessert. A waitress going by cleared some of the table & we had to go inside the restaurant to find the waiter, retrieve the bill & go elsewhere for coffee & dessert. Not the same quality as we had enjoyed previously or just a really bad night!
Halibut and Chips with coleslaw tonight. Fresh and crispy fish and fries. Light dressing on crisp slaw. Great dinner, good service attention. Will return for sure.
This place never disappoints. Although it is pricey, its 100% worth the money. All of their fish and seafood products are incredible.
Best restaurant I ever went for seafood. They have the best tiramisu. Service is great. Very busy on Friday evening...wow.
We have been going to this gem once a month for the best fish and chips in the west end for at least twelve years. We switched from inside dining to take out after the start of the pandemic and have stayed with take out since. Quality and portion size have remained as good as ever - until our most recent order. Nothing wrong with quality, but my wife wanted to know why I had bought kids meals! I paid the same as a month ago but the portions were noticeably smaller than last time. Not as many chips and the pieces of fish were about two-thirds or less of those in the previous order. I understand that restaurants were hit hard by lock-downs and now by inflation, and I appreciate - and accept - the need for them, especially family-owned ones, to be able to cover their costs and earn a living. But I want them to do by raising prices openly and transparently, not by stealth, by reducing portion size - by shrinkflation. Perhaps this was a one-off aberration. Well see next time.
Friendly team, even too spicy paella was yummy
Had the standard fish & chips. Food was good.
A bit pricey but food is excellent!
Great
Was with a group of ladies (about 11 of us) at lunch November 29, 2022 -- all were very pleased with their respective orders. My only complaint is the outside looks like a dump and there is NO SIGN. I drove past it several times looking for The Seafood Grill. Very frustrating. PS. $20-$30/ person for a total of over $250.00.
Nice place, just really hard to notice a great restaurant there. Love the sweet potato fries.
Had a delicious fish taco!
Super good food.... tons of choice... cal wise choices ...fantastic staff
Great food, paella and tiramasu were phenomenal
