The food was incredible and the service was amazing! The Spanish toast dessert is officially the new favourite - we will definitely be back!

Visiting family in town and went to Shoebox to enjoy the open mic comedy night after having dinner, server was Don who was lovely! Thanks so much for the laughs, will definitely come back when I m in town! Food

Went for dinner with some friends, had an amazing time. The server was so kind and brought us corn chips with dip! The mushroom flatbeard was amazing. I got the ginger pork which was amazing and a lot of food. Cant wait to go back to try more seasonal food

First time in New Glasgow and we are so glad we stopped in at Shoebox Cantina. We had wonderful service from Don, who was very kind, helpful and made excellent recommendations. Had an unexpected, amazing visit to the Shoebox Cantina. Heading home from the Cape and decided to venture into New Glasgow for a bite instead of the usual fast food stop off the highway. Randomly picked a restaurant based on pics, and we were not disappointed. Don our server was super friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was fresh and delicious (feature salad, vegan power bowl, and crab ragoon). It was open mic, the local talent were just that, super talented. So happy we stopped, definitely will be detour-ing in the future for this gem!!!

Amazing little place. The food is great and so is the venue. If you are a band this place is great to work with, their sound guy is phenomenal.

Great good but the employees use the bar as a private party spot after it closes and cause disruptions to the neighborhood and those that live nearby.

Been here several times and everything is always perfect. The service is phenomenal, the food is delicious, and the drinks are fantastic. The specials are creative and the standard menu has great options for everyone. This is absolutely my favorite place is town and I look forward to going back soon.

I highly recommend Shoebox Cantina. Delicious food, a large selection of salads, bowls and tapas, but also sandwiches, tacos, burgers and wings. The waitress was so nice, she gave us good advice and gave us tips. Really really nice. Oh, there is also live music...

The service was very sweet and the atmosphere is nice, but unfortunately we did not have very good meals. Went there with three other family members. Three of us ordered from the chicken sandwich options (one Italian parm and two original), and all three of us were unable to finish our sandwiches because the batter on the chicken was SO salty. One of us ordered the ginger pork rice bowl and crab rangoon appetizer (I cannot remember the exact names), and both of those were fairly good. It was either an off day in the kitchen, or it s best to try some of their more unique dishes as the chicken sandwiches were not enjoyable.

The Shoebox has decent food, and friendly staff, and a welcoming atmosphere. They support live music in a serious way...worth a visit!

Our dining experience at the restaurant was quite enjoyable with a few minor inconsistencies. My sons cheese quesadilla, unfortunately, arrived overcooked, resulting in a hard texture that detracted from its flavor. I had the steak fajitas, which were really good tender, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My wife s sweet potato tacos were a highlight really tasty with a great balance of flavors. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was delightful. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, creating a cozy and pleasant dining environment. The service was also exceptional; the staff were attentive, friendly, and ensured we felt well taken care of throughout our meal, which significantly enhanced our dining experience. Despite the minor issue with my sons quesadilla, the excellent service, inviting ambiance, and delicious dishes like the steak fajitas and sweet potato tacos made for a very positive dining experience. It s a place we would definitely consider returning to, earning it a solid 4 out of 5 stars.

This place has won my heart.The food the people are amazing. They make the Nachos in house and the fresh vegetables taste like they were just picked from a garden. I had the chicken sandwich and it was the best chicken sandwich Ive ever had.I recommend this to anyone who loves good food.

Waited 40 minutes for a dry chicken burger and tasteless carbonara. Was not impressed when customers that came in after us got served before us.

This place is really good!

Amazing place with an imaginative, upscale menu that is updated regularly and very good prices for what is offered. Laid-back, cool atmosphere featuring high quality musical acts many days of the week. Total gem of a spot!

They recently hosted a writers group I belong to for an Open Mic. The service was brilliant, the wait staff took the surprise in stride, and, the atmosphere was stellar. I keep going back, especially for the Spanish Toast dessert, and very much enjoyed the cooperative nature and speed of service at this event and every time I visit.

A regular here and this place is my favourite in town due to the standout service and casual food. Open on Mondays which is a huge plus as most everything else in town is closed. Best selection of beer in the county. No competition. Service is always excellent with attentive barkeeps and wait staff. Don is always making sure nights out are as good as possible. The latest menu has some great additions like the Poke bowl. But all time favourites are the saucy nachos and tacos. I wish the ambience was a little cozier feeling when sitting down for supper or an IPA on a weekday but it is a large space and definitely fills up on a live music night.

This was my first time at this restaurant. It was live music, Pat Walsh, he was great. My nachos were delicious. I asked for a White Russian which they didnt have and I was disappointed until I got the Expresso Martini. Im glad they dont serve White Russians

Our favorite place for treat with the kids or a date night! Everything on the menu is amazing and we love the selection of local beers and ciders. A must go spot! Kid-friendliness: Good kids menu and fast service makes for happy kids!

Had the Spanish eggs Benedict and it was delicious

Our server was very attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is enjoyable, a great venue for live music. We were impressed by the house made salsa and tortilla chips. We ordered avocado nachos and the taco platter. We were disappointed in the cheese used on the nachos (possibly Velveeta?) and the tacos were not as flavorful as hoped for. However, the sweet potato taco was very flavorful and unexpectedly delicious.

My absolute favorite place to go when I visit Nova Scotia, service is always incredible they make you feel like family. Food is absolutely to die for, tacos incredible, mac and cheese incredible, tacos mind-blowing, and the best nachos in town. Without a doubt this place is an absolute must try for anyone visiting the area

Went to the Shoebox for the first time to hear Funkosphere Express. The food was fantastic, the drinks delicious, and the service was on point. Really impressed! Great vibe at this venue, and they have an awesome stage for bands. This place was worth the drive from HRM, we will definitely be back!

I dont know much about Nova Scotia, been there only for a fews days, but that joint... just awesome. Don is friendly like that good olbuddy you havent seen in a while, that enormous cheesburger remembered me of long lost childhood memories, the lemon stringed aïoli was to die for. Please live long and prosper, little shoebox cantina, you deserve it!

Food was delicious! Only complaints are that the nacho chips were overcooked and greasy and a the sweet potato tacos were a little burnt. Other than that, the service was great, the flavors were vibrant, and I really appreciate the fresh ingredients! I look forward to eating here again!

People of New Glasgow support this gem! Our server (who I think is also the manager) was so charming and engaging he was delight and made the evening memorable. The food was delicious. I had the beef nachos, I ate every crumb. Also had the ribbon chips, so light and airy, not greasy at all and the lime crema was the perfect accompaniment.

Vegetarian options: There were lots. Kid-friendliness: A mom with a small baby and stroller were accommodated, it was lovely.

While the starter (beef/avocado nachos) was very good, the main courses were not convincing. The tacos themselves were good, and the price was okay, but everything was not very well cooked and not very seasoned. On the other hand, the chicken wings were pretty good, and with lots of sauces to choose from. What you should avoid is the chicken burger; Instead of meat you chew on tendon with breading, the entire chicken was inedible. Parking: Some on the street

It s a cute place with a nice atmosphere! Staff was friendly and helpful. The food was just okay. I got the chicken burger with looked delicious but fell flat unfortunately. Over breaded and over fried. Would give this place another chance though!

We ordered multiple items from the menu and enjoyed everyone of them. The steak in the fajitas was tender and well seasoned, they came with a great selection of toppings. I was really impressed by the Mac&Cheese and how smooth and creamy the sauce was - they have taken Mac&Cheese to a whole new level. The Spanish toast for dessert was a very nice finish and really recommend leaving room for it. They have a vast knowledge of the beer they carry and when I asked for something with a citrus note I was able to try 3 in their beer flight. I will definitely be back to order items on the menu we didnt get to try and see a band or musician play. Loved how comfortable and welcome this place made you feel.

Came to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia to meet up with friends and grab a bite. This place was a great find! A lively atmospheric spot with great music. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu offering great recommendations. We ordered the steak fajitas & wings (with their house buffalo sauce) and washed it all down with some tasty selections of beers suggested by our wonderful server. You can tell customer satisfaction is their main priority. So if you find yourself in New Glasgow looking for delicious food, attentive staff and a super cool vibe, the Shoebox Cantina is the place for you.

Only flavor to the Caesar salad was the parmesan cheese and the bacon. The dressing was flavorless. For me I also found there was too much rosemary (or whatever spice)on their grilled chicken which overpowered the taste Food

Stopped in for take out during a road trip and thought the place looked great! We got 2 taco platters (4kinds) and the ribbon chips. Chips were delicious! Sadly all the tacos were mostly terrible. The carnitas were unrecognizable as such - they tasted like boiled meat and I have no idea what that sauce was. The sweet potato taco would have been ok maybe if there had been seasoning - but there wasnt even salt and pepper on it. Just dry, unseasoned veg. The fish tacos were also completely unseasoned. The chicken was the best, but so goopy it seeped through the tortilla and had to be eaten with a fork. Really disappointed.

Charming place.

The eggs benny was the best Ive ever tasted - hollandaise was unique and all the ingredients were super fresh. Family members all enjoyed their dishes as well. There was live music as well.

The service was excellent. The waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable. The menu itself was varied enough for our vegan friend to have choices. The food itself was delicious. Went for lunch. Found by accident as everything else seemed to be closed Monday. Food was great. Had the taco sampler. Very tasty. Very messy. Service was ok. Probably better at night when they have music.

We enjoyed the ribbon potatoes, nachos and beer selection. We also really appreciated our server who gave us excellent recommendations and was very personal.

Excellent quick service, we had the grilled chicken Mushroom Swiss with a garden salad it was truly the most delicious amazing chicken that we all have ever eaten and we have eaten out a lot. Honestly I would highly recommend you having a meal here you will not be disappointed, the garden salad was also awesome. Next time we are in New Glasgow we will certainly be stopping in again, we are also spreading the word to family and friends in NS.

Little annoying when an overpowering artist takes the stage at like 11am on a Sunday. But to each their own. Eggs Benny are to die for

First time there over the weekend it was a fun place to go! Staff were friendly and quick to bring your drink, the atmosphere is is great, a nice pub feel, right in the heart of town, I will definitely be back to try again.

Great spot on Provost Street, friendly service, great food (portions are generous) and live entertainment, which is badly needed downtown. Go check them out.

The lunch was outstanding, it was the first time in New Glasgow and I was really impressed by the place, the food and the people , if you are in the area you have to go! It s the cutest little spot with amazing food , try the tapas and the fish tacos, the service we received was so amazing and we will definitely be back again. We had the most delicious lunch at the Shoebox Cantina. I was pleasantly surprised how they could serve us with authentic tapas & tacos in the middle of New Glasgow, NS. Their seafood was fantastic, and so was their dessert. Also, service was super fast and friendly. It was the perfect place to visit after going to the beach.

A truly unforgettable culinary experience. My friends and I shared the Seared Tuna, Wings, Pork Carnita Tacos, Chicken Chilmole Tacos, Fresh Avocado Tlayuda, Tuna Tostada and Sizzling Steak Fajita. Im from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and Ive been lucky to experience a variety of delicious cuisines. This was some of the best food Ive ever had in my entire life. I am still dreaming of the Tuna Tostadas and Avocado Tlayuda. All of the food had complex, well-balanced flavours and high quality ingredients. Sharing many dishes among us allowed for an exciting combination of textures and different types of complementary flavours. The establishment itself was also a delight. It was very clean and had really cool decor. Service was responsive and respectful. I cant recommend Shoebox Cantina enough.

Incredible food and lots of local NS brews. I was very impressed by the servers that we had who were professional, kind and helpful. We had beautifully served appetizers. Great for gluten free, vegetarian, meat eaters- something for everyone. It impressed me that they had dairy-free ice cream too. This place has a very nice atmosphere- great place for a date! Sooo happy there is a nice taco place in this part of Nova Scotia! Very fast service. Definitely recommend the Spanish Toast for dessert. Vegetarian tacos and tlayudas were pleasant, but could use a bit more flavour. They do have plenty of hot sauce options to spice things up!

This was a lovely experience. We arrived from Toronto via Halifax and we met the staff who were gracious and professional. They care about the quality of the food and it was the best we had tasted in the area. Would give the venue a 5 star rating. Top was tops. Service outstanding Glad we dropped in for lunch on our way to The Cabot Trail.

Google, can I give more than 5 stars? By far the best place to eat, drink and listen to great music in Pictou County. The food is simply amazing with a wide variety of vegetarian options. The unique combinations of delicious fresh ingredients was awe-inspiring. A great place for brunch, lunch, dinner or just drinks (the on tap menu is impressive even including kobucha). I will definitely be frequenting this amazing gem in the heart of downtown New Glasgow. Vegetarian options: I had the portobello mushroom burger which was to die for. I substituted the fries with truffles fries which were simple amazing. My taste buds were delighted with the flavors in the sweet potato taco salad. WOW!!!!! Dietary restrictions: Vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free options are hard to find in Pictou County but this place delivers with a wide variety of options. Kid-friendliness: Simple kids menu with coloring options on the back. My 9 year old daughter loves the food here.

Myself and my husband (Jeremy) have been coming here for a while now and we really dont go anywhere else. The food, service and atmosphere (live music nights especialy) is amazing. I cant rave enough about it to people! My children are obsessed with the chicken wings and ribbon chips! I Love the tacos and my husband likes ot all !! They make a killer drink Thanks so much for everything you guys do !!!!

Came in with a group of 10 people. Didnt quite know what to expect. Server was moving fast to meet our needs. Making drinks and taking orders. Was nervous food would be forever but came relatively quickly. Every dish was good to great. Had a minor hick up with a dropped plate but so apologetic and went the extra mile to compensate. Mistakes happen in service and the reaction is how I measure a place. The staff reaction demonstrated that they truly cared to make our experience great. I will definitely return and recommend to others. Again, food disappeared before I could take pictures. Highly recommend!

This is definitely the restaurant you need to visit if youre in passing by or staying in New Glasgow! The vibe was relaxing, calm and modern. The food was delicious (recommend the chorizo tacos) and the staff were friendly and service was very quick. I would definitely go again and recommend to anyone looking for a new experience on the East Coast.

Went in on a quiet Sunday with friends. Really yummy tacos especially because they have a soft corn shell. The servings are small so I would make sure to get fries or a filling side but really nice for a bite or if you want to try a couple different things. I think the prices reflect the sizes so you can get more then one thing.

Me and my family went there and it was great. It wasnt very busy that day so they also gave us a free dessert. It was amazing 5 stars.

Yummy food, good prices and top-notch service! A new restaurant with stylish seats and a fun mix of art, including some Pictou County paraphernalia. The menu includes a number of Mexican items, and we were excited to try out a new flavour profile while we were in town. The steak tacos came out sizzling and tender, with spicy salsa verde. The fried Brussel sprouts were crispy and served with an addictive sauce and crisped rice on top for innovative extra crunch. The avocado tlayuda were crunchy and topped with refried beans, fresh avocado and other veggies (not a spicy offering but hot sauce available). And the affogato was super yummy cherry ice cream with espresso poured on top table-side. A new gem for New Glasgow that also has lots of vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options too. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegetarian options! Dietary restrictions: Lots of gluten-free and dairy-free options on the menu (or items that can be made GF and DF on request).

I arrived in new Glasgow for a business owners party not expecting to have high quality food after 9 PM, but my expectations were blown out of the water after my experience at the shoebox. More impressive than the elevated menu is the quality of service you rarely see anymore. I was served by Don who was behind the bar and created an INSANE version of an amaretto sour (with egg whites!!!). He read the room brilliantly and communicated my many needs to the kitchen effectively. The space is such you would expect has been running for years in a busy city and one I am sad is so far away from where I live. I look forward to travelling back down soon to explore the full menu.
