Stefanos Restaurant in New Westminster

Shared the saganaki and the scallops & bacon. The saganaki was tasty! I had a delicious steak and one of our party had the combination plate with ribs, lamb chops and pan fried prawns. She said it was all good but she really liked the ribs! Nice atmosphere and clearly good for large parties as a group of 30+ came in and yet it wasnt too noisy.

I ordered a beef souvlaki that tasted like leather, the Greek salad was boring and the dessert so, so. I think fine dining is a stretch. Thankfully the band was good it was a distraction. For the most part, the service was reasonable until the dessert where I waited 20 minutes to get a take away box.

Waited for 3 hours for our food. 3 hours to the minute. Was there for a cousins birthday and had the set menu option. Appetizers came at the hour and a half mark, but nothing afterwards. Nothing to snack on, no explanation, no apologies, nothing. Ive worked in the food industry and while 3 hours is excessive by any standards, I recognize there may be difficulties in staffing or other issues beyond control. What is always in control is the ability to communicate with customers to let them know why they are waiting. Food was okay, but tbh might have been tainted by my own frustrations for waiting so long.

Great food! The Monday Souvlaki special was definitely good bang for buck and extremely delicious. Amazing service and they even brought a small bowl of vanilla ice cream for my friends two year old daughter, she absolutely loved it! Wish I lived closer, but will definitely be back next time Im in the neighbourhood.

I was craving some greek food so I called Stefanos at 9:22 pm on Sat Aug 19 to ask if they were busy. Whoever answered the phone was kind and said no they were not busy and to come on in. We arrive at 10 pm. Upon arrival the waitress looked at us like she did not want to take us. She asked us to wait to see if the kitchen is open. She comes back to inform us they have shut off the fryer which was fine with us. They could only grill food. We ordered an Alfredo pasta with mushrooms. The pasta came so quickly and it had no mushrooms and it was so bland. I informed the waitress that their is no mushrooms and she looked at me like no they are in the sauce.. I was looking at her like are you serious? Theres clearly no mushrooms in the pasta. She brings over the mushrooms after the pasta was cold. She took back the mushrooms and grabbed the pasta plates out of my face as were trying to still eat. She was an absolute disaster of a waitress. We also ordered the veggie platter for two and boy were the portions so small. This platter was literally for ONE not TWO. They could not provide us with the mozzarella sticks or zucchini sticks because their fryer was off. The waitress still had the audacity to charge us an extra $10 for substituting another spanakopita and the lamest potatoes Ive ever eaten. How is it the customers fault the kitchen turned the fryer off before well over closing? You had a full hour to still serve customers. Maybe you should shut your business down since you people lack major customer service skills plus your food sucks. OPA as a fast food chain is 100 times better than Stefanos. The customer service I receive from OPA locations is remarkable. Stefanos needs to new waitresses who are honest and who are happy to serve customers. When we went to pay the bill, my boyfriend let the waitress know we were unhappy with our food and service and in response she was like I told you were closing.. What type of response is that when you have paying customers? I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone or will not be returning. Hands down the worst greek restaurant in the lower mainland. Please do not waste your money here. You will be left hungry and disappointed. I normally read reviews before eating at a restaurant for the first time unfortunately I did not. Stefanos you left me hungry and disappointed I ended up going to Dominion in surrey which was my original choice for dinner. Dominion had superb service! At least they left me happy. You suck Stefanos. Level up or shut your business down!! The waitress was rude to us throughout our whole visit while I noticed her giggling with others. Im sure shes racist. Ive looked over other reviews and people of colour seem to get discriminated here, which is very sad its 2024!

Great vibes at this place. Took my wife for late lunch. We had chicken and beef souvlaki. Food was amazing and service was on point. Parking: Parking is way to expensive out front. Lucky they have parking in rear.

Love the ambience..and the live band!

Ordered Saganki for a starter. It was $17 but no flavour and very small for the cost. Mentioned it to the server who only asked if we wanted to order another one. Received our souvlaki and all was bland. We asked for more dressing for the Greek salad as there was only trace amounts and the server didn t try and get it made right and instead asked if we wanted oil and balsamic to do it ourselves. The meal is expensive, large but flavourless and they didn t seem interested in making it right. Also surprising that they use cheap paper napkins for the price as nothing was cheap. Sad to write this review but it was very disappointing. Nice atmosphere tho

We ve been eating at Stefanos for years and love it! The food is scrumptious and authentic, as it is owned and operated by Greeks. The roasted lamb is my favorite! The weekend band creates such a lively atmosphere, encouraging dancing between courses.

I am going to give this restaurant a 0. I am here with my family for my birthday dinner with my family and father in law who is terminally ill for dinner. Service was extremely slow and we were discriminated again. We rarely saw the server. My father in law asked the bus girl for his drinks and was spoken for and cut off from service. It wa also disrespectful. At the end when we asked for the bill and asked to speak to the manager, he was absolutely disrespectful and degradinf with his words and attitude. We didn t have to pay the bill but we did. This restaurant is racist and discriminating against people of colour. I had not been there in 10 years with a similar experience for my girlfriend s 40th birthday, unfortunate my husband surprised me with this restaurant for dinner, never again. It s been no surprise that I ve been to Takis several times for dinner with no issues whatsoever. Brown folks DO NOT GO THERE. THEY ARE RACIST AND DISCRIMINATORY and will argue when truthfully feedback is provided.

We ordered takeout, as it was close to closing! Lamb souvlaki, roast lamb dinner, and prawn dinner. We were greeted by three friendly staff, our order was ready in 15 minutes, and it was all delicious! Lamb was tender, tzadziki was wonderful, rice and potato so good! The interior decor was very fun, and I look forward to dining in, in the future!

Just went here with my mom for a late birthday dinner. Lamb (as always) super tender cooked to perfection (we had the chops) Made us feel like family (as always) from the moment we walked in, to the service, the complimentary (in house made) birthday desert (we had the baklava ice cream) and when we were leaving after payment. Highly recommend. Love love love the way they treat, and cook their lamb See you again soon

Saganaki is a must try

I like the place with live band and people are dancing too. The food was good. Staff are nice.

Friend ordered roast lamb with NO onions or garlic due to severe allergy, but found onion in his food after eating half. Even cross contamination can make him sick for days causing him to miss work. When we talked to the manager about this issue he said You tell me when you re in the hospital then I ll comp your food disgusting. The waitress was amazing clearly made the kitchen aware of the allergy because he didn t receive the tzatziki or roast potato, but the manager s comment caused us to lash out and I apologize to the waitress for anything that she was caught in. In conclusion: terrible management and food, good service

Manager and waitstaff are openly hostile to any complaints. They respond to other reviews and tell people to call them or tell them in person. Would not recommend this approach as they will gaslight you and deny any wrongdoing. On top of this, the food is ridiculously overpriced for the quality and size of the portions.

I d like to preface this by saying I work as a waiter, and I ve dealt with tons of difficult customers. I generally try to give all my waitstaff the benefit of the doubt, but the service here is horrendous. Came here with a party of 8 to celebrate a birthday. My friend is allergic to onions, and he told the waitress when he ordered his food. When he found an onion halfway through his meal, we asked to speak to the manager. When we asked that it be removed from the bill, the manager said, Tell me if you go to the hospital and I ll comp it. As someone who works in service, THIS IS INSANE. Allergen safety is of utmost importance when serving food, and the carelessness of the kitchen and the waitstaff could put a life at risk. Arguing with the customers after serving a meal that will cause days of sickness due to an allergy that was disclosed while ordering is irresponsible and unacceptable behavior from management. For what it s worth our waitress was great. She clearly told the kitchen about the allergy, and they made an effort to avoid contamination; however, the food was still contaminated, and the manager s response was not acceptable. Do not come here. Youd get better service at a Dennys.

I was at the restaurant with a friend overhearing these guys at another table talking to the manager of the establishment. Something on the lines of onions and allergies. Felt bad for the group of guys cause I believe I heard the manager say You tell me when youre in the hospital then Ill comp your food.. Uh, thats messed up.

I had a disappointing and upsetting experience at Stefanos Restaurant recently. My friends and I came to Stefanos celebrating the birthdays of two of our friends. One of my friends has a severe allergy to garlic and onion and CLEARLY requested to have his order made without onion and garlic. MULTIPLE TIMES. After getting through halfway of his food, he found an onion in the salad. Yes, he ate half of it and then found the onion, but even the process of cross contamination across the plate of food is just as dangerous, and that is coming from someone that is studying in microbiology and health sciences currently. We brought up the issue to the waitress as soon as we could and she apologized immediately. Then the bill came where he had to pay for the food that would be giving him a severe allergic reaction and the exposure to onion and garlic will prevent him from going into work for the next few days. We brought up this issue to the waitress and she called the manager over to handle the issue. After explaining the situation to the manager, his response was you tell me when youre in the hospital and then we will comp you in an extremely hostile tone. How unbelievably disrespectful. After a few of our other friends pitched in this unfair behaviour especially for a severe allergy, the manager said that he would waive our friends bill and then walked away scoffing and shaking his head. The managers reaction to the situation was extremely hot-headed and disrespectful. Instead of showing concern and empathy, the manager was very hostile to complaints which made me feel very unsafe and frightened to be in the restaurant. Before posting this review , I have read other one star reviews people left on here and the restaurant responded by calling or talking to the waitress about complaints instead of posting anonymously so the restaurant cannot contact them but after my friend s and I s experience trying to approach the staff about our problem, this review was our last resort.

The moussaka is a joke, I didnt order a plate of oil

I loved my chicken fetucini rose pasta specially recommended by the very friendly and awesome waitress. However my girlfriend wasnt impressed by the rice and potatoe to small and not marinated enough compared to other greek souvlaki places. Soup was great and the Ceasars was awesome not overloaded with ice (hate that especially in a Ceasars just ruins it)

We had a wonderful time. The band is awesome! People are nice! Our server is patient and knows what she s doing Rachel high five! Attended a birthday gathering last Saturday night. The service was excellent and the band was very entertaining. But the food .. we were given a set menu with no option to order off the main menu. At $28 you d think the Souvlaki would have 2 chicken skewers but only one. The rice was cold & bland, the potato was tasteless & the greek salad was just ok. The portions were so small you could see the bottom of the plate. My friends Vegetarian Special consisted of one short skewer with minimal vegetables and the same tasteless rice potato & salad. Not even one spanakopita. And the pita bread didn t come till we were all almost finished our meal. Any other greek restaurant I ve been to gives a generous portion enough to take home. As a party of 20 we brought Stephanos alot of business but this forced set menu, which I ve never experienced before for just a gathering, was an obvious reason to hike up the price and then cheaping out on the food really put a damper on our night. This was a big rip off. We were very disappointed and we won t be returning.

Had a Birthday party for a dear friend with a group of 24. Bridget was a great server and was very attentive and friendly. Ordered the Lamb Souvlaki and it was over cooked and didnt have any color. Live band was great, and the floor was never empty with lots of people dancing. Parking: Plenty of Parking is available on Columbia Street until 8 pm I front of the restaurant.

Celebrated my birthday party at Stefanos. What a wonderful evening! We had a big group but the kitchen and the servers managed to provide us with friendly and efficient service. Owners Bill and Rachel were very helpful in the planning and addressed all our concerns. The band was great and we had an amazing dinner and dance evening. So much fun!

Was here for a surprise birthday party with around 70 guests. The service was impeccable and the live band really treated us to good music. Would return for sure

We booked a large private event (about 80 people) at Stefanos last month. The service here is excellent. The owners were very accommodating with our wishes. The staff is friendly and attentive, and goes the extra mile to ensure a memorable dining experience. Food is delicious! I recommend their calamari and roast lamb. The owners also allowed us to bring our own desserts to share with everybody. I want to thank Rachel, Stefan and the rest of the staff for their incredible service. We will visit again soon!

We had our baby daughter s baptism here. Was able to reserve the whole restaurant upstairs. Very nice environment. Food was very good! Rachel and her staff were super friendly and efficient. Everything went the way we wanted. Will probably book another big event here in the future! Highly recommended!

The calamari was fishy, the bread was not home made, the salad tasted like they don t wash the veggies and the dolmades were literally sour. I am sure this place had glorious days in the past but they are now long gone! The only positive was the server. She was attentive and on the ball with a great attitude! DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE

It was New Year s Eve. I expect a premium However, I was charged $89 a plate for the worst meal in my life. A cup of flavourless rice, 2 limp pieces of asparagus and a quarter chicken piece of dry chicken. Complete rip off. Obviously not caring about any values other than getting a buck. Band was great. Only good thing about waging my new years on this rip off , gross food factory!

It is the second time I go to Stefanos for dinner and it has been a feast both times. So far I have tried the roast lamb and the chicken breast.. the portions are more than generous and all the food is housemade. Katie, my server is just SO lovely and Rachel, the manager, is so welcoming. She came over say hi and make sure everything was great. I am definitly coming back regularly!

Amazing Greek food, amazing service, and the venue is like nothing around in New West. During Christmas, its a must to enjoy the ambiance they create with the decorations. Be mindful of booking ahead. It gets pretty busy.

Parking: VERY VERY DIFFICULT to park. EDIT: In response to the owners, I am well aware ther is paid parking - its just next to impossible to get a spot. I lived in NW for nearly 2 decades and have a lot of experience trying to park downtown, but during the evening, its absolutely horrible - especially near your location. Its not your fault - but dont mislead people into thinking that I am exaggerating - I am not. I agree that transit is a great option, but not for me, coming from suburban Coquitlam. Wheelchair accessibility: I believe they have an elevator but they are also on both 1st and 2nd floors.

Quite unimpressed with the management. Went for the first time on Valentines. Only to find out upon review that they marked up the menu 30%, gave the worlds smallest appetizer and Caesar salad and small portions on the actual dish (The lamb was DELICIOUS however and would have been perfect at the normal menu price). We did however have to wait an HOUR after ordering to get our main course (rice, shredded lamb, and half a potato). Due to, from my understanding, the Management understaffing their poor wait and kitchen staff. While the service was not speedy, they were trying very hard with what they were given. We have spent less on three courses and drinks at the Revolving Restaurant downtown than what we spent. We were forced by the machine to give an 18% tip, which was not deserved. I have no plans on returning, however I am sure during normal business and non marked up pricing it is a fine restaurant.

Had a very nice Valentines dinner date

The server was absolutely slammed with a party that was large and an error with our party of 4 got dropped. But the server was very apologetic and brought 2 of their finest desserts to make up for it. The service was terrific which only added to the great taste of the food. We would all go back in a minute. Thank you for all that you did.

Lovely large dining room with lots of options for seating including large group dining. We ordered appetizers and dinner at the same time and the appetizers never arrived though they did give us some complimentary desserts. Food was very tasty and the portions are a good size.

I really like the atmosphere the restaurant. It was quite nice. I ordered the misaka and was expecting so much more. My wife had the salmon and it was very good. The service was good however my wife had an issue with something and when she called up the owner to talk to him he was quite rude on the phone to her.

Food, entertainment, and pricing were very good. The roasted lamb was phenomenal and very well priced, along with the fettuccini. Service was very kind and the atmosphere was great. The vegetable side was the only thing that was very expensive; $7 for a tiny side bowl of vegetables.

My halibut dinner was over done and so bland including the rice and Greek salad. Usually Greek restaurants are full of wonderful flavours. I was very disappointed. The potato, feta dip appetizer, martini and service were good. Needless to say I did not eat my dinner and was charged for a Greek salad to compensate. I was hoping it was like Stefanos on Davies in Vancouver but not. Who knows maybe just an off night won t be going back though.

The restaurant was packed, it seemed like everyone was having a blast. I was with a table of 15 altogether, the food arrived 20 minutes or so after we all ordered. My chicken souvlaki was just barely warm, my greek rice was nearly cold, another one at our table was dissatisfied with her prawn dinner...once again her prawns were in her words ice cold . Thank goodness my sangria was nummy & saved the night. I would not go out of my way to go here but if my friend had her birthday party at the same location next year maybe I would stick to the sangrias and their delicious greek salad & piping hot pita bread (the only thing that came out of the kitchen hot that night) To end on a positive our server was delightful & prompt with our requests. Kid-friendliness: There were a lot of kids young & older in the restaurant appearing to have fun.

Nice location, nice looking inside. And pretty good service but food couldnt have been more bland ... I orderd the halibut, prawns and scallops and my scallops/prawns came un seasoned ( meaning none at all) .the greek salad was verry plain almost exclusively tasted olive oil. the generous portion of fetta cheese helped the Greek salad (alot) But come on lemon juice, black pepper and salt for starters its not that hard ? My dads roast lam was good tho ! definitely the only thing to hit the table that wasnt super bland. rice potato ect needed way more seasoning. All 5 of my family thought bland was the word that best suited the food. Probably wont be back

Went for an early dinner on Canada day. Restaurant wasnt too busy and I was hoping for decent Greek food. Unfortunately this was not to be. The food was bland, topped with bland with a side of bland. Calamari - tiny and bland no seasoning no flavour at all and way over priced for what we had. Beef slouvaki-looked ok but no flavour. Greek potatoes-had zero lemon flavour, rice- simply tasteless and even the Greek salad wasnt very tasty, nothing on it but very mild feta and the pita bread, while piping hot, had a slightly fridgy taste and the tzaziki was just odd with a gelatinous texture. The server was on the ball and could not be faulted and the room is quirky but ok and they had a live band which was interesting but a bit loud. Best part of the meal was the Sapporo draft and the little licorice candies at the end

Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. The best Roast Lamb I have had in a long time. Everything we ate was well prepared and seasoned. Service was excellent and our server was very friendly. Beautiful view from the upstairs restaurant dining room and a wonderful atmosphere. They have live music on Friday and Saturday nights. They are very close to a large parking garage so no need to worry about on street parking if you are willing to walk a few blocks. The prices are very fair for the amount of food and the quality of ingredients is high. There is a decent selection of beer and wine.

I read all the reviews before I ate here and was expecting to be amazed with the service but not the food. Yes, the service was great as expected but the roast lamb, my God it was good. It was seasoned to perfection and did not over power the taste of the lamb. pleasantly surprised! good job Chef !

The band was incredible. Our waitress was super friendly, however, the food was probably the most bland, unseasoned, lacking garlic Greek food Ive ever had. My 2 skewers of prawns looked raw. After sending them back for more grilling they didnt look or taste much better. The rice had no flavor. The roast potato was delicious as well as the Greek salad and pita bread.

I have been going to this restaurant since it opened in the mid 1990s when the Father ran the restaurant and the young son ran around the place, it was good then. Probably over 50 times during that time, live in New Westminster. The previous experience a year earlier was bad ; however, thought I would try one more time. I finally learned this last time on Friday August 25, 2023. NO MORE. Maybe ownership changed or they just do not care, I believe the later. The food was marginal at best, service was awful, just awful, a grade nine (9) student could have done better. Not sure if this was the server first night. We were party of 9 people and they overcharged and the final bill was padded; the tip was overcharged because we were a party over 6 people at the table. I can honestly suggest I felt we were ripped off, I know we were. I have never confronted the manager on the final bid as my words will speak volumes more. I will NEVER RETURN and or RECOMMEND this restaurant to anyone. So sad the state this restaurant ended up, poor management, the kids control the so called dance floor, even through they have signage NOT allowing children on the dance floor, poor service, poor waiters-servers, poor lousy food.... fast food would have been better!

Friday 15th of September I invited my friend for lunch, popped into this establishment and was extremely disappointed with the service and the meal was not up to par. The waitress took our order returned a few minutes later due to the fact she couldnt recalled what we ordered. It was a colossal waste of $70.00 the rice wasnt fresh and the souvakli was tasteless. Personally it would have been better to wait until 4:30pm and visit the establishment across the street.

Went there for the first time for a big family dinner celebrating my wifes birthday. Everything was very well done with good service and food.

This is a tough economic time. The house only had 8 customers for lunch, and I understand how complex it is to provide a full menu, but I must say. I enjoy the company of my best friend. but the foid should have been better. The chicken was pound too thin, fried too long, and the gravery was gelatinous, and there were no mushrooms that I could see or feel. On the whole, the plate tasted good and flavorful, but it could have been better.

Great service, food and atmosphere. Will definitely visit again on my next trip to Vancouver!

Absolutely love this place always a hit. My go to is the chicken schnitzel along with the feta dip, service is always amazing and the workers are always so welcoming, would recommend to anyone who wants to try Greek food!

If your looking for a greek restaurant with the best menu and a great atmosphere, this is the place for you!! it s always bumping with a great band every weekend and I absolutely love the chicken and prawn fettuccine. If you want recommendations for dessert i would recommend the tiramisu as well! The servers are all so welcoming and are always willing to help with any accommodation possible to make sure you have the best service. I hope everyone gets a chance to try this place because once you have you can never go anywhere else and I know that for a fact

This is my favourite restaurant ever. always good service: excellent food; good size portions and a very nice atmosphere. I live further away but forgot how great this restaurant is. Will be going again soon.

Live music great shared meal. It was the night my girlfriend decided to really share personal parts of her life to me. We grew immensely as a couple this evening.

Recently had a large group of women (~30) for a reunion at this restaurant. The service provided by Tammy was excellent! We had a preset menu with some different options, and separate bills as well. Tammy was on top of everything. The food was excellent and provided in a timely manner. Everyone enjoyed the appies...and when I asked if anything was gluten free, she immediately brought me some fresh veggies/humus. Kudos to Stefanos. Highly recommend this restaurant (Only gave 4 stars on atmosphere because it was quite loud...but that was partially that many women meeting up, and partially the music in background. I am sure they would have turned it down had we asked.

Great atmosphere, live band for dancing. Relatively quiet friday night, was great fun!

My husband and I both sent our meals back seafood was RAW the owners sent us a message asking if second round of food was better SADLY IT WAS NOT !!!!

We were part of a 65 person group and the staff, front and back of house, were excellent. That size group on a Saturday night plus other guests is a tall order but Stefanos delivered. Our food was delicious, salmon for me and chicken souvlaki for my wife. Timely and professional attention by the serving staff for the 4 hours we were there. We kept the bar hopping but they were more than up to the task.

Went for a birthday party with a set menu. The food was cold, and kids were charged as adults for k8ds meals that never came! Thats right, my k8ds food never came! Way over priced and cold food.

Talked for hours and wasnt pressed to leave. Waitress came around every now and then to see how we were doing. Loved it there and would go back again...Thank you

Our server Tammy is wonderful! My in-laws enjoyed their dinner and our out-of-town guest thats visiting from. new Zealand really enjoyed the food and wine and the vibe of the restaurant. Will definitely come back again!

My third time here, tonight, at a whole-restaurant Christmas party realtor s event and the place keeps on impressing me, this time the stellar service with one of the staff - her name was Nicole. One of the guests in front of me said he was sure his virgin Caesar had alcohol in it, which he did not want but seemed to shrug off and not bother with causing a problem. I went and tapped the shoulder of Nicole, who immediately - I mean I think she was half way on the way to somewhere else but turned on a dime - and said I will take care of it with a sense of urgency. She went straight to the guy and said please, let me replace your drink! with genuine concern. That was very impressive. She did not hesitate and just took care of the issue. If the boss is reading this, she is a keeper! Oh, by the way, roasted lamb shoulder was awesome too!

I had the roast lamb and I dont like it, really. Some portions were too salty and it was like someone just cooked it, add some salt and pepper. Just too boring. My friends didnt like it too, they said they will never come back again. There was something floating to my wine, but i dont mind. I was so hungry that day.

I have been frequenting this restaurant for 17 years, weekly/monthly and have never had a bad thing to say about the food or the staff (the servers are amazing!), tonight I went in for a table of one and was turned away. There was maybe 15 people in the restaurant! I was told I could sit but only for 1/2 hr. I was absurdly surprised and unimpressed. With reduced hours and days you would think they would want their local support, unfortunately I will not support this practice .

I attended the Vancouver magic circle annual Christmas dinner and the venue is perfect for celebrations - great ambiance with great service, gorgeous Christmas decorations and a rustic building. The food is delicious - a must visit if you like fresh and authentic Greek food.

I was there for a companys Christmas party. The restaurant is decorated with Christmas theme but hardly hear any Christmas songs. The service was marvelous. Overall, the food was so bland. The chefs could had used more seasonings and herbs to enhance the flavors in salad, meat and rice. It was my first time here and I hope it will not be my last visit.

I had the best service with Martina, best Christmas decorations in the lower mainland. Loved the band they were awesome, danced all night the food was amazing!! Will be coming back!

I have been going to stefanos for years. They have yhe best food and atmosphere in New westminster. The ownership is excellent and highly recommended this restaurant for casual or party events.

Always look forward every year for the festive xmas decor. The roast lamb is amazing! The Happy hour menu is great!
