Taverna Greka in New Westminster

My first visit to Taverna Greka was in 1988 as a teen. Every year it has maintained its amazing food. I m impressed. Vegetarian options: Great Spanakopita, Greek salad and hummus

Service and food was divine, the place is beautiful inside and the view out the windows along the wall tops it off special thank you to Koula and her family for the lovely evening

This place is Amazing, from the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed. We had the pleasure to be served by Costas, who made the experience even better. The food was amazing and if I could add a 6th Star, I would. I had the best Lamb Chops of any Greek Restaurant in the lower mainland hands down. The Roast lamb was also top notch. Everything was very flavourfull. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for great Greek food.

Nov1 2024 celebrated a colleague s retirement party at the lovely Taverna Greka in New Westminster. A fabulous evening was had. Outstanding service by Erin . Great food and drinks very reasonable prices such a welcoming cozy room to celebrate our dear friend s retirement and the amazing owners Lena and Kula were so accommodating! What a fabulous restaurant ! From the second we arrived we were welcomed and every need was met - above and beyond. Lena and Kula you run a great restaurant. I can understand why our great server has worked there over 6 years - she commented to us it s a very tough place to leave because the owners are fabulous . Amazing service ! Best lamb souvlaki!

Best Greek food I have ever had and friendly service all the time. They have never let us down. Whether it s take out or dine in this place is amazing! Highly recommend the chicken souvlaki! Owners are always working and the atmosphere is great!

Best Greek food around!!

This is our go to place for authentic Greek Food and great service. Koula and Lena are exceptional hosts and always treat us like family. Their staff is also exceptional and attentive. Best food ever!! Saganaki is the best. Their Ek Mek dessert is the only one I will eat. Have tried several other restaurants, but not one has come even close.

Delicious. The rib entrée was a very large portion. Calamari was perfect.

This restaurant is a New West staple. Love this restaurant for service, food and the view. Unfortunately, their rice is not gluten free which lessens what I can enjoy on the menu. A must try!

My partner and I came to this restaurant 6 years ago on our first ever date, and food was amazing, unfortunately today s visit was not the same. We re not picky eaters but we didn t have a good experience. The rice was way too over cooked and soggy, my roast lamb was so bland , the chicken and the pork ribs were dry but better than the roast lamb, the potato s were also overcooked and mushy. The Greek salad and the bread were good. There was also hair in my food and I mentioned it but not even a sorry or anything.

Went with hesitation as it was a hot evening and no a/c there. The place had hosted a retirement party that was very loud, which was suppose to wrap up by 6-6:30 but hadnt by 700pm. Found it very difficult to have a conversation with dinner date. Ordered the mousaka and Im pretty sure it was vegetarian as I didnt see any meat. The waiter didnt ask if I wanted meat or veg. I wanted meat. I took leftovers home and still think it was vegetarian. It sure didnt have that distinctive taste that mousaka usually has. Had the ekmek and there wasnt enough whip on it, so didnt hit the high mark Ive given before. Price wise they have increased and meal portion size is somewhat smaller. My usual go to is lamb chops but as $36 and change it wasnt happening. My friend has small ceaser salad and dolmades appetizer. She wasnt keen on salad but enjoyed dolmades.

Had a wonderful time at Greka! The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and the staff was very wonderful! Definitely recommend grabbing their calamari or the Tzatziki and Peta bread!! The spicy Marg is a must grab as well, couldn t get enough of it

Great Greek food! We are from Calgary. We were visiting our son in New Westminster and felt like some Greek food. We went to Taverna and had a great experience. Food, staff, and feel of the restaurant were all excellent. Highly recommend.

We shared a family platter and it was delicious! The gentleman taking care of us was one of the owners, he showed us interesting boats and told us about the new bridge. Wonderful experience!

We were driving by Saturday night and went in at 8:59pm and the kitchen was to close at 9pm, and they sat us down and made us dinner! Fantastic service, the food was AMAZING, and will definitely go back next time we are in New Westminster! 10/10 recommend!

Found this place by accident while looking for somewhere to eat in New Westminster. We have been going back every so often for 6 years now. Each time we go, the food is great, the service is friendly and the owner takes pride in giving lots of personal attention to customers. The decor has recently changed, and I must say that I liked the old look better. The prices are very reasonable as well. I love this place!

Prices are a little bit higher than average but I wouldn t say crazy expensive. Beautiful location and easy access through transit or driving. Unfortunately the servers didn t provide an outstanding experience but it was ok.

Amazing Greek food all around!

We recently visited Taverna Greka, and what a disaster. This restaurant used to be good, but I dont know what has gone wrong there. The first impression when you enter the restaurant is that they dont want you there, as if they are hesitant to say hello and to look at you when they see you. NO 2 is the place itself: we spent the entire time fighting off a few large house flies. NO. 3 is the cutlery they use; it is really time to change those fork and knives. It feels so gross to use their fork; they are old, scratched, and look like food residue all over them; with knives having their plastic handles shredded and gone through a blender and worn out really bad. NO. 4 the food. looks stale, cold, and the meat looks like as if it has come out of a can; shredded and bundled up. Salad has no taste, even the fetta cheese doesnt taste like feta. NO 5. The service: the servers approach you table and they seem to be lost for words, as if they are waiting for you to start the conversation. I think the place is probably planning on shutting down and barely keeping it running for now. They open at 4:30pm !! Food is expensive too. Just not worth it. We will stay away and would not recommend this place to anyone. I dont understand the other positive reviews. Fake Reviews?

My favourite Greek restaurant. The food is delicious, I especially love the roast lamb and the rotating specials are always a treat. They have good selection of wines, beers, and cocktails, including Greek beers and wines that go wonderfully with the food. Locally owned and operated, the family who runs the restaurant are great people and care for their food and customers.

I found the prices way too high and the portion sizes too small. It was average food and waited to get requested sides when server got too busy. Ordered a virgin drink and was hoping for something special but just got an overpriced soda in a tiny glass. It was what I was expecting but for what I paid I would have like to have leftovers. Just not what is used to be and I cant understand how it got to be this expensive.

Once again, prices have skyrocketed here, like almost everywhere else it seems. Just not affordable to go out anymore. Starting to really pick and choose where to eat. Sysco places are definitely not a good option, for example Browns Social Houses. This place has really good food and views but the prices are concerning. Platters used to be reasonably priced now way up there. Like I said, good food, but you will pay.

Love this spot. Prolly went atleast four times month of March 2024. Very accommodating for my suprise birthday. I love the chicken souvali here rice potatoes just everything on point. My girlfriend has ranked it her new fav greek joint. She loves all the lamb dishes. And everyone on my birthday was very happy plus has a great view for romantic dinner ect. Wheelchair accessibility: Its all ground level lol.

Amazing service and atmosphere and of course amazing food as well. Got the calamari and the butter shrimp and that was fantastic with the pita bread that came with it. Taziki so delicious I had to get 2 extra Taziki s. Got the lamb souvlaki for my main and that was cooked to perfection. Rice and salad was absolutely fresh and delicious and the timing of the food and appetizer was perfect. The servers are super nice and considerate, and very friendly. Highly recommend checking them out !!

Overall the atmosphere and service was exceptional! Im giving the food 4 stars - roast lamb was shaved meat. Im used to the bone in for roast lamb so that was a big surprise having my meat pre-cut. Their rice is not gluten free, they add orzo to it . They were able to accommodate with extra potatoes.

Taverna Greka is a charming restaurant in New Westminster. The view overlooking the river was stunning. It was a huge plus to the overall experience. The interiors are warm and cozy with fresco-looking Greek paintings on the wall. Food was really good and prices are reasonable. The beef souvlaki and lamb roast were cooked perfectly. The chicken breasts were a little overcooked. All plates came with Greek salad and rice which is standard for most Greek restaurants. I highly recommend the Tamara dip and Saganaki. It is a nice spot to visit!

I have always loved this restaurant, the moussaka is amazing. We got the platter last night and between 2 people, it was way too much food when its not foggy, there is such an amazing view too.

I didnt dine in but I did order 4 dishes TO GO for my buddy Vinny and I. Vinny had dental work that day so I got him a chicken, lemon & rice soup which he could happily eat with no teeth! I pigged out and had Saganaki, OMG I THAT $#1@!!! Followed by the Chicken Breast Dinner, which is souvlaki left unchopped, without a skewer. Dessert was an AWESOME dessert called Ekmek its traditional, creamy, amazing. Mmmm I want more now! It was a Friday night they were busy but all staff were super friendly, not at all stressed or rushed. I highly recommend it to anyone.

What an EXCELLENT place to have Greek food. The service was impeccable, friendly and personable. Nice view from a window table, even on a rainy day. Great food, and as you can see from my photo, good drinks too! Sorry but I couldnt help myself; I was thirsty at the time of taking the photo. Parking was a bit annoying but you may luck out and get a free parking out front. If youre coming in from Skytrain, its literally across the street from Columbia Stn.

Havent been in years, but always enjoyed it. The grilled kalamari was the bees the knees. It is disappointing to see so many items marked as unavailable on the menu. Hopefully that changes, I would love to return.

I received top notch service from my phone reservation to the time I left the restaurant with everyone smiling and saying goodbye and thanking me for coming in, which was so nice! My server was Kostas. He was friendly, quick and efficient, and helpful. My host was the same, although I didnt catch her name. My meal was served hot and was very enjoyable, especially the tzatziki! The potatoes are prepared with mustard, I believe, which I dont love, but they were still ok. I was in a bit of a rush to get back to my hotel before the strong winds and extreme cold came, and they had me in and out, well fed, and happy with my experience in an hour. Best Greek Ive ever had! Our most favorite Greek restaurant. My family has been coming to Taverna Greka since the 80s and it has consistently been amazing. From the food, (not greasy, good portions etc), to the service and the views. Ive tried many other Greek places and nothing comes close. Highly, highly recommend. You wont be disappointed!

I have been here many times over the last 16 years, and I have never been disappointed. The ambiance is great, the food is delicious, and the attentiveness of the servers is second to none. The food (we love the roast lamb, saganaki, spanakopita, and souvlaki) is delicious and we have a great time every time. We even came here with our witnesses after we had our elopement in 2016. We love this place! We couldn t recommend it more highly!

Went here for dinner and was really impressed. It had a great atmosphere and the food was quality. Their pita bread is freshly made as well. Make sure to book a table with the view as it made our experience extra nice.

Incredible service, great atmosphere, phenomenal food. We keep coming back for birthday celebrations, friends get together or simply to enjoy a delicious meal overlooking the Fraser River. We enjoyed everything we tried here but the saganaki and roasted lamb are our family favorite. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend.

Great Greek restaurant! We went to celebrate Mother s Day for an early dinner and were very impressed with the excellent service and delicious Greek food. Kostas, our server advised us to order the Greka Platter (we are a family of 4), plus we ordered kalamari and spanakopita. Food selection was on spot and we even had some leftovers for home. I will highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to enjoy authentic Greek food for a decent price and great atmosphere in New Westminster. Thank You Kostas for an enjoyable dinner. First time at Taverna Greka and it was good. We got a table with a view of the Fraser River and it was pleasant to sit and enjoy the view. The service was great and attentive. I had the Roast Lamb. The meat was tender and tasty, wish it came with a bit more. The rice and potatoes were cooked well and great flavour. The Greek salad was a little on the bland side. Perhaps a bit more seasoning on it. The calamari was good, could also use a bit more seasoning as it was also on the bland side. Overall, a good Greek Restaurant and would go back.

This was a delicious first time trying this place upon the recommendation of a Greek friend. The view of the Fraser River was beautiful and the food (chicken souvlaki, beef souvlaki and vegetarian moussaka) was all very tasty. We will definitely be back when we crave Greek food!

Unfortunately I didn t like the chicken Slovakia plate I had my aunt wasn t a big fan either. The chicken was very dry the Cesar salad and the potato are delicious.

We waited forever for someone to bring water to the table. Ordered dinner and my wife asked for a ceased salad instead of a Greek salad and go a Greek salad. Had to ask for our drinks that we ordered that was suppose to come with dinner. The calamari didn t have any flavor. Wont be going back

The staff are very friendly and courteous. However we were there around 630pm and they had ran out of Moussaka and Lamb souvlaki already. The salad was small and was missing the onions. I was disappointed in my experience there to be honest aside from the staff that are trying very hard.

They dont know how to run a business. Which restaurant in the world would be only open for 4 hours a day and only 5 days a week. I guess thats normal considering how messed up this city is.

This restaurant is so incredible. The food went crazy. It was so delicious I couldn t help but exclaim in glee with every bite. Would HIGHLY recommend the lamb chops, as well as the spanakopita and the tzatziki. For dessert, my friend and I shared the Ekmek, which was heavenly! Next time you find yourself in downtown New Westminster, give this place a try for the most wonderful dinner experience you will ever have. P.S the view is magnificent.

BEST GREEK RESTAURANT! The owners of this restaurant clearly take great pride in their business. The service was warm and personal. Our server, Costa, clearly cares about giving his guests an excellent experience. The atmosphere was bright, clean, and inviting, and the food was absolutely delicious. The ingredients were fresh and high quality, and the dishes were prepared perfectly. This restaurant offers excellent value. Our family has enjoyed many Greek meals over the years, and Taverna Greka will be our go-to restaurant for all occasions from now on.

Outstanding service! It was our first time in and they went above and beyond to make it a memorable meal for all of us. One of our party is a wheelchair user and the bonus was finding that the entire restaurant was very accessible. Will definitely be coming back regularly. Wheelchair accessibility: Pretty great! Washrooms could be larger, but they have done the best they can for a place thats been around for 40 years!

Great service with Gluten Free options, the calamari is delicious

The roasted lamb was perfectly cooked, but the low portion for those avoiding carbs left me wanting. Unfortunately, the hummus fell short its runny texture and lack of minced ingredients made it seem like canned chickpeas with skins on. No cumin, lime juice, or olive oil was detectable; it felt almost like a frozen hummus experience.

We used to come to this restaurant for years but unfortunately moved 14hrs away so havent been in many years. Im happy to say we were able to visit in November and the food is still just as wonderful. The service is top notch and the view over the river cant be beat in the evening. We usually get the chicken souvlaki but this time my husband had a half chicken half beef and will be having that every time going forward, he still talks about the beef. We highly recommend this restaurant and always will.

Recently had our Christmas Staff dinner and once again everything was exceptional. The service was on point and all of our dinners were cooked to perfectection. Will be back very soon!

I have visited Taverna Greka several times since I moved to the neighbourhood. It s a great location in New Westminster, but more importantly, the food is delicious and reasonably priced, and the service is excellent. It s my go-to place!

From sitting down at our table and taking in beautiful view of the Fraser River to the staff that were very inviting, we had a great experience. Have always ordered chicken souvlaki and it has always been excellent. Today I was feeling like something lighter and had the souvlaki wrap. Did not disappoint. So tasty! So filling! Had to leave room for dessert. Their ekmek is legendary and perfect for a hot summer day

Portion size is small

First time here. The restaurant is deceivingly large with a nice water view. The staff are friendly, tentative and knowledgeable. The food was absolutely delicious and there was plenty of it. I would recommend the Saganaki appetizer. Its a delicious pan fried cheese, kefalotyri, drizzled with fresh lemon. The moussaka was melt in the mouth, the béchamel sauce was decadent. Great value for money.

If youre looking for a unique dining experience this is the place to go, the view of the Frasier river is spectacular, but were not talking about the view were talking about the food. Oh boy was I treated to exceptional meal, the hummus and pita appetizer was delightful you could taste how fresh the chickpeas and garlic was, it was complimented with a hot pita And for the main course I had the lamb skewers which was amazing seasoned nicely, very tender, and flavorful the Greek salad was a nice contrast. I enjoyed the rice but the texture was more soft than I prefer. Otherwise I had great experience if youre in New Westminster area hit them up. Thank you.

The food and the service is good.

When i called to see if i should make a reservation, the lady on the phone was very friendly and funny. The server was great. She was very friendly and knew when to come over etc, some people have the instinct and she did. She wasnt in a rush or rush us at all. The food was good. Had the chicken souvlaki and was good. Pita bread was great. The only complaint but not really complaint was the music was loud, maybe it was where we were sitting but other than that, it was great.

I can write a full essay about the service, the food, and the ambiance. However, I will keep it simple. Great food, great people, amazing ambience, and with good company you cannot go wrong! FYI there are some options for my vegetarian friends as well. The owners are from Greece and they know how to make great Greek food. I was surprised by the way they treated us, it really made me miss home! If you drink I highly suggest you to get OUZO!! Can t wait to visit again!

Great place with a nice view of the Fraser River. Friendly staff. A must-go-to spot if you are visiting the area. 10 minutes short walk from the New Westminster River Market.

Best Greek in New West! Everything is so good. The staff are always friendly. Service is impeccable and always fast!

I really have to start taking pictures. Love this place. Mother had the special Spinach and Cheese stuffed sole, wife had the lamb, and I had the Lasagna. Everything was excellent including the service. Had the Baklava for for dessert to share. Would definitely order again.
