I treat myself to this place once a month! Atmosphere is clean, staff are VERY welcoming and friendly, and food is AMAZING! My love for Filipino food has completely grown because of this restaurant. Tip: ask them for the hot dish of the day and they will recommend some dishes.
How I wish Plato Filipino can elevate the presentation. I ordered lomi, paid $10, and it was placed in a plastic take away. They could have used a simple, ceramic bowl for this. Quite sad to see how they serve Filipino food - cheap.
We’re so excited because we aren’t usually buying food from Filipino restaurants. We ordered crispy pata, ginataang kalabasa, monggo, and leche flan. I liked the crispy pata and ginataang kalabasa, the leche flan is so-so ( I can make leche flan so much better than what they’re selling), and unfortunately the servers are not honest about the monggo, me and my husband know they don’t have enough, I even asked if they still have some for us and she said yes, but they just added like sinigang soup on it to fill our order (the monggo is so sour), you can see on the picture that the monggo looks like a soup. We’re never coming back to this restaurant, this is really disappointing.
Good Filipino food with a good variety of options. We came on Sunday at 10am and the viands were freshly cooked and ready. The BBQ in the BBQ silog was lean, the Turon was crispy and not greasy despite being fried, and the lechon kawali was very tender. The place was clean compared to other Filipino restos in the area and theres quite a bit of space. Highly recommended if you are looking for home cooked Filipino food at a decent price.
A very nice spot to get some fantastic food right before watching a movie at Landmark! They've got some great portion sizes, and a very decent variety of Fillipino dishes. I highly recommend all of their sisig dishes, I especially liked their garlic rice :)
The ladies were nice to explain some of the dishes but I wish there were labels on them. Each dish seem to be scooped differently with the pork sisig being the most abundant, to mediocre sized beef caldereta and very stingy on the sinigang. Not sure why. The rice was very generous but it was also overcooked and soggy. The sisig isnt fresh and they have to microwave it for you so the crispy pork rinds are no longer crispy. The beef caldereta was delicious though. In my opinion, sinigang is quite easy and cheap to make and it would be nice to have it as a side soup that comes with every combo. The parking lot nearby is paid so you'll have to park further away.
Cafeteria style ordering wherein you can see all the dishes from you. Very authentic Filipino food with lots of Filipinos customers dropping by and working behind the counter. Price was a bit high for the small portion of food we got. We ordered the adobo, crispy pata, laing and extra rice. The crispy pata came with the lean meat and the fatty part. Total came out to be around $30 but portions were relatively small.
Me and my family went here twice already. My husband loves the food here. He rarely craves for filipino food and this place satisfied his cravings. It’s so nice that you can get dinuguan, bopis, sisig and crispy pata for a smaller amount and can upsize for a bigger one. Place is nice and clean. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
ordered Chicken Tinola for $10.98 and only got 3 small pieces chicken and couple spinach in small container I know everything is expensive but this is expensive for the small serving! too bad I cannot post a photo Food
Big space lots of dine in seats available. I ordered rice combo with kare kare and bicol express. The food tasted good.
I dont have much experience with Filipino food, but the people helped me choose the menu. They are really kind and foods was good!
Great selection of Filipino food, great service, and reasonable prices (especially their combo meals).
The best Pinoy Restaurant in town, special mention to Azel for doing a great/best customer!
Amazing friendly staff who go above and beyond. Amazing food!
Went here once and never again! The food here is so salty, its inedible. Makes me embarrassed to be Filipino. Instead go to the 1st aisle in Walmart and look for powder packets/sachets in the Filipino section. It will tell u the ingredients u need to make and how to cook the dish. I will say part of the reasons portions are small because in the Philippines people are poor so they small amount of meat with a mountain of rice. They also eat 6-8 times a day because the schools there have about 10 - 14 hr days. But for kare kare I make it from scratch. Water, Peanut butter, beef stock cube, cut your meat into cubes (beef), garlic, eggplant (do not make kare kare it without it. Doesnt taste correct without it) ,and any other veg. I put carrots, sometimes green beans or okra. Make sure the peanut is cooked. The taste will change to a nice flavor. FYI pinkabet isnt vegetarian. Shrimp paste is used
Thanks for ruining the mood. If you want to try faux Filipino food without garlic, spices and just plain bland with dry meat. You should visit this establishment and support me .
I like Philaphina food, but you absolutely crashed my fillings about it! Never ever again in your restoration;!!
Their papaitan is good!
Very decent place for a quick bite.
Tried this place last week. Nice to see more vegetarian dishes for example the jackfruit stew (can t remember the Filipino name). The halo halo was different but good. The mongo was a tad salty but once mixed with rice it was fine. Needed more staff as the tables were not cleaned fast enough. The staff were very friendly. I stole some sinigang from my brother, and the sourness was on point. We will be back
Food was decent. as others have said maybe a tad bit salty. And its a bit expensive for the small portion..like a small cup. (Like those Safeway soup cup size ) very nice service and friendly staff. Good table seating
Nostalgic. The service was really nice and the food was good! The portion was just right, I just eat a lot of rice lol We got Kaldareta, Sisig, Kare Kare, Dinuguan. Dinuguan was our favourite!
Cancelling order at the last minute without informing a customer. I do not recommend this resto for delivery or take out.
Good variety of food but the price are too Hight when compare with the size of container.
Such a cute little place with variety of options, my downfalls were: 1. Most of the ulam I tried were all super salty, my suggestion would be to season/msg lightly and just add salt and pepper on each tables so people can adjust to their liking. 2. My friends ulam along with one of mine was not heated and so we ate it on the colder side. Otherwise, I m glad to see more Filipino restaurants around!
Delicious and authentic Pilipino cuisine away from home. Worth your visit when you re around New Westminster.
Mehh it was ok. Pancit was so dry because was sitting there for so long we barely even finished the small plate and rice was too wet and soggy. Not sure if filipino like soggy rice but it wasnt for me. Sinigang soup the meat was tough hard to chew it. Its a hit or miss this place.
Really enjoyed this place, very tasty and authentic. Very good portions and a great variety. Will be back to try some more items for sure cheers!@
Let me get straight to the point. We placed an order from DoorDash and got a call back from a lady saying that they d run out of Pancit (which was quite delicious, tbh) and she d give something else instead of that, which turned out to be the Lomi (I think)! But she had the audacity to charge us an extra $4 for changing the order which she didn t inform on the phone conversation. We happened to see it in the revised receipt. The height of being SNEAKY! And, let me tell you the Lomi s flavourful broth, wasn t. The adobo was satisfactory, I didn t eat much because of the amount of oil in it. Finally the Leche Flan could have been more creamy, probably got steamed a little more but I think people on Facebook Marketplace sell better Flan! Greatly disappointed, never ordering from here again.
the portions of the food is child size if the child was on a diet.
I went to Plato Filipino New West several times. The people there are very friendly and food is ready to serve so its convenient. The food was good when they first opened but afterwards, most of the time they dont taste fresh and I always get a bad after taste. Hopefully they can improve their food quality.
Staff were very friendly and food was tasty. Downside is, food was salty and the portions were small. I got 3 small pieces of chicken for the Tinola and a very small bowl of Papaitan with little amount of soup. Papaitan was supposed to be a dish with lots of soup in it. I also got a small size fried scad for $3. Check the pictures for detail. Still not giving up though, I believe theres room for improvements. I would like to go back and check them after a month to see if they will improve this small issue....after a month I went back to try again, unfortunately no improvement.
Great taste - but would love to see labels on whats what. There are so many dishes but I didnt know what anything was as a first timer. I know I can ask what something is, but I dont want to ask about 30 different dishes as a newbie. I will return once there is some labelling.. Its takes too much time and too stressful to ask so many questions for a quick meal.
Delicious food, just wish they would have little labels on each item so I dont have to ask what everything is
We ordered tortang talong, beefsteak Tagalog, menudo, jackfruit vegetable with shrimp, turon and igado. They were all delish. They re not too salty just the right amount of seasonings.
EDIT 03.05.23 to reply to owner response: While I understand the additional cost due to Uber fees regardless you guys put regular size on your description and the size given was definitely not regular size. Perhaps think about updating the size on your description to clearly indicate it is a small size because even at 6.99$ for that size is not acceptable. It is not a good impression on first time customers. Had the size been clearly indicated I would not have ordered. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Got an ordered delivered but please do not waste your money here. Regular size items are $9 each you expect a regular sized portion instead they send you kids sized items. Its unacceptable and frankly a scam. See pictures for size reference. I paid $40 in total for kids sized food. Absolutely ridiculous.
Excellent filipino cuisine, I ordered the lunch combo to go for less than $15, super rich and delicious calderata, very convenient spot, back side of New Westminster skytrain station.
Luv the pops of orange decor, food was varied and tasty, great staff, parking on street or under cover.
I was very disappointed. We paid for several large orders ($17.40 each), and they werent even a large enough size to share for two persons. I already bought from them twice. The first time I ordered from them, it was the same problem but thought maybe it was a mistake on their part on picking the right size of takeout dish. I decided to give them another chance and was, for the 2nd time, extremely disappointed. Their large dish should actually be a small. You would think that paying that much for a large dish would be good for sharing, but we literally counted 3 pieces of meat in our sinigang dish. I understand that theres an extra cost when ordering through Uber Eats, but I think its the responsibility of the restaurant to see what cost to size ratio is fair to the customer to give them a good experience.
Pancit Palanggana In the Philippines, we call that title an inferior type of noodles sold along street areas for struggling jeepney drivers or tricycle boys. Thats not a status of disrespect but a real description of where you can find the type of noodles. I went to this fast food ( this is not a restaurant) and ordered pancit (aka noodles); there were embellishments on top but the pinay server dug in deep into the shallow tray and took out only the noodles, less the decorated pork on top; when asked why, she said its only for decoration... I ordered but I left and didnt pay. Also Fraser Health turns a deaf ear on the complaints of rancid coconut gabi leaves. The food is generally salty and expensive. Unfortunately, we Filipinos tend to pay an expensive or massive amount of money for the term Filipino dish. In the Phil., we cannot compare the Canadian dollars we spend on simple mung beans stew with the Philippine pesos we pay. But a big difference in NOT in the amount but in the quality and quantity of food served. The food here is very expensive with very little portions. Caucasians receive more food in their plates because Plato Filipino already knew that the whites will complain but we Filipinos will swallow our pride, pay the price, swallow the food and go back another time. As well, the food in this particular location is NOT Prepared inside. They already come prepared from somewhere ( Surrey or Vancouver, perhaps) ;the place does not have a cook; the place only has workers who will heat up the food. Of course, we Filipinos dont want honest reviews because were in denial as always in most of our life situations. In this Plato Filipino location, it is unreasonably expensive, unreasonably salty; unreasonably quantified by race ( Filipino) and unreasonably served... Dont patronize. Fraser Health should inspect.
Kid-friendliness: The best ang food . Service is excelent.
As much as I want to give them 5 stars, the food here is not consistent. Either Hit or Miss! Makes me sad coz I always look forward grabbing foods here but some days their food seems wash rushed and no taste at all. But consistently friendly staff and owner.
The food was pretty good overall and not expensive. I used to work in the area, but always overlooked the restaurant because I wasnt familiar with Filipino food, but I decided to give them a go after seeing they had Filipino spaghetti and I was quite impressed with the taste. Its definitely a lot more distinct than Jollibee, which just felt like western spaghetti. Ill likely come back for more.
Edited on 07/10/2023 Reply to owners response: Im naming the food based on what your staff informed me. So I take it as you have difficulty identifying your own dishes from a picture? What a joke. Visited on 07/09/2023 AKD next door was closed so I decided to give this place a shot. Boy, did I regret it. Ordered 2 combos that came with 4 dishes and rice. The only thing that tasted good was braised beef. Peanut chicken was blend and overcooked. BBQ chicken skewer tasted alright but was served to me cold. Pork flavor was nasty and half the pieces are all fat. Perhaps Filipino food is just not my cup of tea. For the same price I would rather get bourbon in a food court. Still chewing on this piece of super overcooked tasteless peanut chicken (the dish with greens garnish) as I type this review. Pain.
We are visiting from Toronto. Food are great, staff are wonderful. We are lucky our airbnb is two stops from New Westminster Station, this will be our go to place while in New Westminster. It feels like home.
Not your ordinary palabok, because it doesnt have the usual toppings, not even a slice egg... halohalo has sour saba and leche flan is just about less than an inch, not really recommended. Server looks like she doesnt want to serve people. Laing, bitter.
Great food and nice indoor seating
I just love their pancit
We dropped in one day after walking from sapperton to new west station and it was a great experience. Its all very casual with a cafeteria/food court style dining setup. Its great, the food is very humble and feels like im eating stew at my moms house (even though my family isnt filipino) , its comfort food first and foremost. Price was good too for how much food we got.
Good food, great service.
One of the best tasting and most reasonably priced Filipino restos in Metro Vancouver. And the owners and staff are very welcoming and friendly.
I highly recommend everyone to try this place. Filipino food is wonderful and the people on site are the nicest. I am so happy I can get my Filipino food craving close by to home!
Convenient location by transit. I walked in and immediately see a display of 20 something dishes that all looked authentic and mouth watering, ranging from curry, lecheon, cartilage soup, and lots of meat dishes. I had a hard time deciding what to pick. I had the pork adobo with quail eggs and taro leaves in coconut milk as a combo and MAN they were delicious. I wish they have displays though to help you decide bc Idk any Filipino dishes. Price point- $12 for rice and 2 dishes might be up there for one serving. I eat on a smaller side and finished almost all of it. Overall I would recommend to any Asian food lovers! I want to come back and try different dishes.
Delicious selection of food. I did take out, but the restaurant has good ambiance and decor.
Food is pretty typical for a Turo-Turo style food. The person behind the counter was very friendly. I just have to say that I think additional staff is needed during peak hours. It was around noon time, and it was getting busy. There was a small rush of people trying to get food. At the same time, a bunch of the tables still needs to be cleared from previous patrons. As the people ordered, they would scan for a clean table but half of the tables needs clearing. I can t really blame the only person there, this was more towards getting additional help staff.
I m a fan the food is reasonably priced, the staff is super nice, and the location is convenient. Great for when I have a craving for tapsilog.
nice place to relax
Kid-friendliness: Convenient, taste is awesome, friendly staff and the price is unbeatable!
Delicious traditional Filipino food and amazing customer service We got great suggestions
Get the sizzling sisig and kaldereta! Good food for the soul that makes anyone feel like theyre home.
Great variety of tasty authentic dishes. Friendly service . Cant wait to go back
Food is average. Would have been better if cooked food i.e. chicken bbq and pork dishes served hot or warm. Parking: Its beside New West Station, so theres parking.
What a nice Filipino restaurant in New West. The lady who worked there was very sweet and friendly. I had fried milkfish and jackfruit and green bean stew with rice. Also picked up a cassava cake with flan to-go (the bottom part was slightly overcooked, which made it slightly dry but it was fine). The jackfruit & green bean dish however, is to die for, so good! Definitely will come back for more, yummy.
I don t know why I continue to buy at this place, perhaps not enough competition. It s always a lack luster experience. Portions are extremely small, a baby size. NOTHING LIKE THEIR WEBSITE PHOTOS! Food not tasty and subfar. Menudo and Afritada same taste. Nilaga and Sinigang almost the same taste. Too bland. This last time I ordered, I bought a combo with beef tendon & ribs nilaga. I m speechless. What in the world was that?! No words can convey my disappointment . Never again.
I placed party tray orders for lumpiang shanghai and pancit. They made the experience so pleasant. The food were great too, the lumpia were nice and fresh. The pancit were freshly cooked because after 30 mins of pick up, the noodles were still hot when we served them. I will definitely come back here for my Filipino party trays
Authentic place for Filipino food. Reasonable prices
I was craving halo-halo and so I decided to grab one from this place since I ve tried it before. If you re filipino, you know what comes in a cup of halo-halo, to make it short.. only few of them made it to ours. Ice, milk, gulaman and red beans. Plus the vanilla ice cream. In my surprise, I asked the lady that was working there if they really don t include ube to their recipe (It was a rhetorical question obviously the picture they advertise look so different), the lady then said that if it is eat-in then no ube (so ube is just for take-out?? Doesn t make sense!) and then I repeated what she said and she realize she sounded stupid and said oh sorry we ran out of ube (changed her reason right away) and then I pointed out the customer next to us who was just handed out a halo-halo with 2 layers of ube. In the end, I was very disappointed on how they handled the situation. She obviously doesn t care at all. She should have just apologized for the mistake and gave as a replacement. But instead she just made us pay full price for the displeasing halo-halo without apologizing. Plus, we wanted the Chicken Inasal but she refused to sell us as there s no one to cook it, then I guess put it on the sign that says it s only until a certain time. I know it sounds petty but say that to someone craving and expecting a good dessert.
What i received was good. I had no support nor suggestions on what goes with what. I was clueless and the staff were of no help. No menu, no suggestions, nada. A bowl of plain rice...give me an idea what would go with my meal.
Everything tasted like they really put in an effort and care about the recipes they sell. The staff who helped me were pleasant and polite with the general restaurant looking very clean! Will be back for another order definitely!
Great to see a Filipino restaurant in the area. Highly recommended!
Ordered 2 pancit. 1 Eggroll. 3 chicken bbq & smallest lugaw. Came to over $65 with only a mediocre taste. Nvm it didn t even make the standard of great flip dish! So disappointing this resto and these pricing! Avoid @ all cost.
I was debating if I will write this review because Im not here to put down small businesses but I guess this is the only way that I will get their attention. I have been a regular customer, ordering through their Ubereats delivery every lunch. This is the 4th time that I got disappointed so I have to say something at least. The 1st occurrence that theyre missing something form my order I didnt complain or call. The 2nd time I called because I gave specific instruction on the Note section that I want soy sauce and vinegar on the side. when I got my order theres none so I ate the fish bland as it is. I called them and let the server know and she just apologize. Then 3rd time, their Ubereats app is not working for a long time and they said its only Doordash. So, I downloaded the Doordash app and ordered from there. I made specific instructions utensils, soy sauce & vinegar on the side guess what? All of that is not in the bag. I called and the server who answered said she needs to double check on her app. I said check it, cause I can see clearly in my phone app that I typed in those instructions. Then she confirmed that it was in the instructions and apologize. Today, Oct. 27th the 4th time, I ordered form Ubereats, I said vingar and soy sauce. Guess whats missing this time? Soy sauce. Youll probably wondering why I keep ordering from them if this mistakes happen, first I love Filipino food especially galunggong, 2nd thers no other Filipino resto close by that can deliver this food when Im in the office (my other go to is 604tapsihan because I like their bangsilog but I was searching uber /doordash theyre gone!) I like the taste of Platos food but for my past few orders either the fish was too small or the noodle pansit was cold (I know that the portion was given to me was cold (not placed on a food warmer) because the other dish I ordered was still hot. I know its just small things, but I hope that when a customer paid for delivery, please make the order right and double check the order before you give it to the driver.
Delicious Filipino foods.
Person behind the counter very unhelpful and rude. They spooned out my spaghetti with a bare hand and somehow managed to spill the spaghetti across their hand into the container. Completely opposite service from what I received during the first month after opening. One of the few bad experiences Ive had in the past year of dining in and out of New West restaurants.
As with some Filipino restaurants that want to make quick bucks, this place is the same. There is no cooking happening in this restaurant. The food is manufactured somewhere in Vancouver or Surrey and brought in New West branch. Its mostly salty and greasy; and portions are small ( quick bucks); the noodles ( pancit) have trimmings on top of the tray but typical of our Filipino culture, we dont get the trimmings. The woman dug and dug out the pancit from under the tray and not providing whatever are on top of the pancit. The sweet desserts are made of condensed milk ( diabetic prone); then theres the ube flavored dessert but those are just food colourings; Not many construction workers around go to the place because of saltiness, oily and expensiveness of the food with small portions. If youre Caucasian, the staff will impress you and give you more. If youre Filipino, youre given a portion the Filipino way. Also, the place is NOT really a restaurant. You basically point at the food you want, theyll put it in a plate and off you go, take a table. The place is dark. The tables are dark so you cant see the oil smudges left on the surfaces; then there are chairs that dont get wiped or cleaned. What discouraged me was the cook... who only heat up the food in the kitchen. Theres no real cooking happening. So its not so safe to eat. The turn over of food unlike in malls fast food that are fast, is slow in this place. At the end near closing time, they still have lots of left over and who knows if they serve the same the next day. The leftovers were lots because the portions they sell are small. There are many good Filipino restaurants ( real restaurants in the Lower Mainland) not this ... Would I recommend it? Yes and No.. If you are a Filipino and will eat the same food, youre likely better off cooking on your own. But if you have foreign friends, then maybe take them in but watch your credit card bill. Worth it? No
Visited the new branch of Plato Filipino today located at New Westminster. I was mesmerized by the ambiance, the excellence of service and the mouthwatering dishes that they served. Kare kare, beef stew and pansit palabok are one of my favorites. One shouldnt also missed their shanghai rolls and turon. Loved the feeling of home away from home. Cant wait to be back again. Proud to be pinoy.
This! Our favorite Pinoy restaurant and food on the go. From its texture to flavour and even its delectable aroma, Plato dishes, esp our favorite Kare-kare and bopis, immediately transport you straight to the Philippines. Its New Westminster resto vibes make you feel closer to home.
Nice place and the food was great......you will definitely come back often......
Food was fantastic. As someone new to Filipino cuisine, some kind of label on each of the dishes would make it a much easier/quicker ordering process but that was our only gripe. Will definitely be back!
Service was great. Food not so. Too oily and salty. Binagoongan does not taste of even a tiny bit of bagoong. Seems like it has flour.
Do yourself a favor and visit this Filipino restaurant in New Westminster. Hospitable servers, delicious dishes, beautiful presentation, and wonderful dessert. The food is absolutely amazing! everything we tasted melted in our mouths. Personally, I highly recommend the beef Caldereta, spaghetti, and leche flan for dessert.
Really friendly and hospitable servers. They also serve authentic Filipino dishes
Great food - we no longer have to go all the way to Joyce to get our fill of Filipino food.
Delicious food, good servings and friendly staff
Tasty Filipino food. Glad to have found this hidden gem.
A great discovery! Delicious dishes and a sympathic team! I recommend
Tasty
Foods are excellent. Customer service, they deserve to have the highest level, 5 STAR. Will definitely be back here in the next few days.
Taste okay... But too small portions for a combo menu.. Good try but I don t think I will visit again tbh..
A place of authentic Filipino cuisine.
Good food and ambiance! Staff are so friendly. Glad theres one in New Westminster, closer to Us than in Joyce.
Great place for something different for breakfast. Super tasty.
PLATO FILIPINO (Filipino Plate) Really excellent Filipino dishes, the pork lechon kawali were fantastic, no oil dripping and really crispy, they offered so much food variety and the serving was just right, almost all the filipino signature known dishes are available including the deserts. The restaurant is very clean. Parking is a bit challenging and expensive. Location is accessible by bus and sky train. Fantastic customer service! Prons: Great filipino food restaurant Servings and Price Excellent customer service Cons: Parking We will be returning soon!
FOOD IS SO SALTY
Service is outstanding even though I ordered online before I got there and it was ready by the time I got there I was really impressed for the first time I came and greeted my daughter
