Casual cantina serving a variety of Mexican dishes, from fajitas to pozole, plus fruity cocktails.
Been here many times, first time picking up. Ordered the $13.95 lunch special over the phone and told the lady it was for pick up. Confirmed the price with her over the phone. Upon picking up, the total was $17.95. When I asked her why, she said take out for lunch was an extra $2, which was not disclosed and does not make sense because I confirmed over the phone the price. Even at $15.95, tax is 8.85%, yet the total came out with an additional 13%. Not sure how they do the math, but seems like a cash grab for lunch.
We ordered a few dishes and margaritas. The drinks were full of cheap mixer taste, which didn’t make sense for the price we were paying. We also ordered a lot of takeouts from this place just because it is convenient and close. But there were coupe times when the delivery or orders were messed up, and we called, whoever picked up the phone really love to hang up on the customers!
From Texas so might be a little bias about Mexican food but it was good/okay. Server was nice and attentive. Only first bowl, small, of salsa and chips are free?? Had a couple of burritos which were pretty good, both the veggie and chicken. Guacamole was good. Mole Enchiladas were good, but sauce was more spicy than what is usual for mole. If in area and crave Mexican food, not a bad choice.
I went to this restaurant 3 days in a row, that is how good the food here is. The echiladas are to die for, highly recommend the green sauce if you can take spicy, and for the meats pulled pork or steak. Large portions and the best Mexican food. This will definitely be a regular place of mine!
It’s a great place to enjoy authentic Mexican food~ reminded me of home. Food was so good that I forgot to take more pictures! Must get The Alambre and desert! Buñuelos, Michoacán fried Ice cream or Flan with coffee~ must get! If the food is made with so much love, their service and attention will make you feel at home and relaxed.
Delicious Mexican food, better than anything in Hells Kitchen. Might be my new favorite in the city. Starting off with some free chips and salsa of very high quality, perfect really, like in the south. The shrimp Diablo are amazing and the sauce has a homemade taste, not too spicy. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which were nothing special but on par for top notch, great sauce. Both dishes came with homey rice and beans, very filling. We sat outside and enjoyed the fresh air. We did ask the waitress that brought our mains out (not that took our order) for more free chips and salsa and she said yes, but then the other server gave them to the wrong table, which was unfortunate because we wanted to use them to scoop up the accoutrements. Oh well everyone makes mistakes. It was annoying to see the other table immediately grab and start munching away on our chips though - they didn’t ask for them and knew they weren’t theirs and could’ve said something but didn’t. Our server did bring us three different kinds of hot sauces that you can see in the photos. But when they finally brought our chips and salsa we were finished with our meal. I just overhead a guy who seems like the owner offer free chips to the table next to me. Anyway, overall strong recommend.
The food and service is decent, but you have to watch out when you order your drinks to ask for the price because there is no price on their menu so ask before ordering as the price for the drinks is a bit expensive. The restaurant is nice and cozy.
Good Mexican restaurant. Flavors are very bold and you will enjoy them. Our waitress was very attentive. Prices could be a bit more competitive. Although the food is tasty, I've had tastier. That's why it's only 3 stars. Definitely worth trying though
At first everything was going well with the woman who was working at the bar. then everyone. Oh, everyone from the kitchen went out to the bar to have a drink during work, then one of them stayed at the bar, almost falling asleep, and the woman at the bar was paying more attention to him, oh to him already. I was taken that to the costumer that is Bad service
Awesome lunch special - great enchiladas!
Great staff, amazing food. Wonderful dating spot and or brunch spot.
Really rude tipping policy and charged for things we didn t order
Very bad service, not only were the waiters rude, but they ended up adding extra drinks in our bill and asked us for tip without telling us that gratuity was included. Never coming again. Food
Got an order delivered. Food was not good. Ground beef taco was so dry.
Greatest food I have had in a while loved it. The drinks were on point. I will return again
Okay food, but very loud place and they refused to split the check.
There are not very many good Mexican food spots in New York, but this was solid! The lunch specials are great considering the price, loved my fajitas with a frozen margarita.
Do not go here. This place overcharges is an INSANE way. You d think it was a Michelin star based on their prices. Unbelievable. I got a margarita and it was $19. Automatic 25% tip that was definitely not earned. What a ripoff
the best mexican food I ever eat!
Food it s pretty good and drinks are good and strong friendly staff I being there for a few times already recommend for good food and drinks and to have a good time with friends or family
I would live here if they would let me. THE. BEST!
Moved out of the delivery zone for this place and it was like losing a limb. Glad to be back. The best Mexican delivery in upper Manhattan and trust me I have tried them all. My love of their enchiladas and tacos and salsas cannot be overstated. 100 percent worth visiting in person too theyre fun and nice. Would pay good money to watch their cooks for an hour.
Good marg, but no happy hour on Fri... :/
Small restaurant, fast service, hard to find parking, overall ok location.
Love it
The food was great, great taste!, the service attention could be better, the service size could be better, but the ambience is gorgeous! The Frida Kahlo paintings are great!!!!
Wonderfully authentic Mexican food.
The food is great and the margaritas are strong! Definitely recommend the mole sauce Parking: Parking is tough
Charged $4 for a tiny scoop of sour cream to go with my super spicy burrito
One of the best restaurants in the neighborhood. They serve complimentary chips and salsa, and my go to is the cheese quesadilla -- very tasty and affordable price. With the lunch menu, it even comes with a free drink.
total disgust ! I ordered, among other things, a cake and repeatedly told the person that I wanted the meat well cooked. They sent me a cake with the meat still red and not even cooked. Be careful, check your food carefully, that is a sure stomach infection. I will never buy again
Terrible service, delivery takes forever
Lack some flavor but the quality was there.
Their Giant burrito is so good. Their margaritas are good. Service is good too. Kid friendly. Some what small in the inside. Not ideal for large gatherings but overall their food is decent.
Really great food. The Horchata is amazing as well. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Awesome late night spot.
Well it was fun
the guacamole is excellent!
Weve done dine-in and take-out from this location. The tortilla chips are fresh and the salsa flavors are on point. The staff is friendly and the service is attentive. Unlike many other businesses that play loud music and disturb their community, this restaurant is a huge benefit to the entire neighborhood. Good, authentic food that makes the residents happy, cant ask for more. Dietary restrictions: Nachos are gluten free
Decent little joint
They change their prices all the time apparently. Do not get scammed. Added a picture here for reference:) Automatic 25% tip.
I eat the veggie quesadilla, and it always hits the spot. I love the huge smiles on the waitresses. They definitely know how to serve with a smile, and that makes me happy. I have had the steak fajitas, and they are so slammin. I work with an amazing crew, and they also love this spot. We have yet to eat at the restaurant. We order for pick up. I highly recommend this spot if you want authentic Mexican food.
Yea its Mexican food. How can you go wrong?
Our food was delicious, well precooked and the service is professional yet very family like. We had a wonderful experience overall Dietary restrictions: My daugter had vegetarian and GF dish. I m not quite sure it s a GF safe place for those who have severe dietary restrictions but for us it was perfect
Great food, great frozen drinks, great staff, area usually has some odd characters and ghetto people
We enjoyed a tasty burrito!
Margaritas good people outdoor seating. Vibesz
The lunch special was good and has a lot of drink options that are included in the price. The restaurant is well air conditioned and has a really nice ambience. My waitress was great too! I ll definitely come back.
I use to think this was a cool place to sit outside and enjoy your drinks. I havent been there in a while. I recently went back to get the same drink I always get only to pay $19.50 and I paid with my card so it was $21.20 UNBELIEVABLE ...$19.50 for 1 drink..u guys should be ashamed of yourselves. Surely but slowly ppl will stop going there. Theres othere restaurants around that has drinks cheaper than this.
I ve been to El Porton so many times previously and was a huge fan. That s why it s so sad to leave this review. My colleagues and I placed a to-go order last month. There were numerous things wrong with the order, unfortunately. One of which was that one colleague received the wrong item completely (received tacos instead of a taco salad). The other one was a piece of green thread inside the food of my other colleague. Truly disgusting. See attached photo. I went back to the restaurant that same day and showed them the photo and also explained all of the various other items that were wrong with the order. They acknowledged the thread was the exact type used to tie their tortilla bags. I explained that I understand things happen, but we just needed to let someone know and make things right with us. I was advised to leave my phone number and someone would call me back. I never heard back, so I went there once more a few weeks later (actually placed another pickup order) and let them know that no one had gotten back to me. Once again, they apologized and asked me to again leave my phone number so someone could call me back. I never heard back this time around either and unfortunately have to leave this review. Truly disappointing. Due to them ignoring us, it will prevent my colleagues and I from ever stopping by again, which makes me sad as it was the opposite of my intention. I just wanted them to make their mistakes right.
Last night around two in the morning, I ordered T-bone steak and my wife ordered shrimp chimichangas. I mentioned three times that I wanted medium rare for my steak. When the food arrived, I immediately thought it was not what I asked for. As an individual that understands some of the individuals in my culture I let go of it and continue to eat it anyways. While eating, it was clear that it was medium well and my wife could not stand and watch me eat it knowing it was the wrong order, so she called the waiter. The waiter understood that I was unhappy and we asked him to check if it was actually medium rare with the chef. After the waiter brought back my T-bone steak he told me verbatim that it didn t look medium rare because of the lighting. This really upset me, but I was not going to make a scene this late anyways. I would have accepted being told, oh yes sir you ate too much of your steak so we cannot change it and get your correct order. I was very excited about my experience but it turned out it was not well for me.
The best food & happy hour ever! The manager that thereon Sundays is the best Food
Excellent food...delicious Margaritas...excellent service
Vegetarian options: Several vegetarian options (quesadillas, veggie fajitas, etc), we tried the Chile Relleno and it was delicious! Food
Great local spot. Good portions, authentic flavor. Small spot but in warm weather outdoor option. Definitely worth the try if youre in the area .
I visited this establishment on a Thursday afternoon, so there was only myself and two other customers there at the time. I ordered the Chicken, Shrimp, and Steak Fajitas. It was delicious and well seasoned! The waitress was well attentive and very kind, often refilling my water and regularly checking if I needed anything. The meal came with complementary chips and salsa, but I ordered a serving of guacamole. The guacamole lacked flavor (in my opinion) [I d give it a 3 out of 5 stars] and the salsa was underwhelming with too much cilantro [I d give it a 3.7 out of 5 stars]. Overall, my experience was incredible, the food was mostly delicious and I would definitely visit again.
A nice local spot. Nice cocktails. Very down-home Mexican and the food was delicious. My daughter lives nearby, so Ill definitely go back.
The best mexican restaurant in NYC hands down, me and my partner lived in the city for a few years and nowhere else compared to this place! Also the price is really really good for NYC so 100% worth it, you can get a banging huge burrito for like 13 bucks with free chips and hot sauces 100% one of the best restaurants Ive ever been too! Also the staff are friendly and its a cute little place DEFINITELY COME HERE YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!
Wonderful
The food is alright. It wasn t bad but wasn t amazing. Price was reasonable. Got their lunch special for pick up.
Trash
Good service and food...
Small place but the food is onpoint and the frozen drinks are actually frozen and strong. Will be back...good for a date night or out with some peeps.
There seemed to be a strong oder from a dirty mop. It filled the air near the kitchen and bathroom with a very bad smell of dirty wet fur. Although the giant burritos were tasty the oder made it hard to eat.
The best T-bone in town.
The food was good service was as well. We had someone with us who had a food intolerance and they assured that the tortillas were not flour but corn in the tortilla salad. They are flour.. they would not make that person anything to accommodate their intolerance and they got sick. At first the servers all denied what they said until our whole group of 9 people reminded them of what they assured.
In the past me and my wife enjoyed their food, however this time I made the mistake of ordering delivery, bad career move the food was cold , the steak tacos had a weird taste to them, the green enchiladas had a nasty smell to them, and the taste was even worst , I ate some of it thinking it was just me ,and I was wrong, I got acute food poisoning and ended up in the emergency room , I was hospitalized for almost a week before I was discharged, and I am still feeling the symptoms of the illness. EAT AT YOUR OWN RISK !! For me and my wife, we will never return
Chipotle chicken quesadillas were great!
A bit overpriced
Everything and the sink nyc coming back in a big way and they are part of it .lets go nyc.
Be careful here! They make up drink prices since there are no prices on the menus. Staff and manager are inconsistent with drink pricing and stories about when pricing changes. Check your receipt before paying. Food was excellent, though.
If I could give zero stars I would the owner has been terrible food wasnt good at all drinks was over priced before the pandemic use to be a ok place
Service was quite bad, and they sneak a 25% tip into the bill and still ask for gratuity. Very sneaky. Food is pricey and overall not inspiring.
They snuck a 25% tip and asked for a tip on top of that. Ended up tipping them 37%, which is ridiculous. Please be more transparent!
We were there for lunch, the portions were good with free mimosas or sangria. The place was really small, the problem was my Chicken Chimichanga was Luke warm, dry and burnt inside. I think it was reheated.....Drinks and atmosphere was good.
Waiter service bad
So good and drinks are amazing and pretty cheap!! Prices aren t on the menu so you have to ask. Some of the staff are really rude but benefit of the doubt it was very busy.
Vegetarian options: They offer great non meat options for anyone looking for vegetarian food. It is high quality food as well they dont cheap out on ingredients.
This place is great, the food is good and inexpensive, especially for the location its at.
Food is absolutely tasteless and too pricey!
I have come to this restaurant 1-2 times per month over the past year and thought it has the best Al Pastor tacos around this area. The service was so-so but the food is good. However, after today its safe to say it d be our last visit due to this horrible experience. First, the waitress rolled her eyes from the beginning (because we changed our minds from dining indoors to outdoor, but that was when we were still at the doorstep, not even being seated yet). I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt because maybe she had a bad day. We tried to remain polite, even when she brought us napkins that are visibly dirty (she saw the spot, wanted to take it away, paused for 1 second, and then left the dirty napkin on our table). I kept telling myself maybe she was just having a bad day. But in the end, its just a bottom-line issue. This is racism because she treats the white lady next to our table with her best self - smiling, great attitude, etc. And when she turned to our table? Immediately the face and the attitude changed completely, faster than flipping a book page. I lost count on how many times she rolled her eyes at us with a straight face and a temper like we owe her a million. No one deserves this. So I wont be coming back. The service was so-so already, let alone this racist incident that totally stinks.
$29 margaritas!! This place has super overpriced drinks. I was asked if I wanted the happy hour margaritas which was really small. The man next to me had what looked like a regular size margaritas so I said I ll have that cuz I assumed that was the regular size. I get the bill and it s $29. Hell naw. There next size down which is a regular sized margaritas is $19. This place isn t nice enough to be charging $30 for a single drink. They can go to hell. Sad thing is the food is pretty good. But I won t be going back cuz the drinks Are WAY overpriced.
I enjoyed the lamb shanks
Worst food ever wasn t even Mexican food the rice doesn t taste like rice the chicken was burnt
Very good neighborhood Mexican. Reliable, and a great gallery of Frieda Khalo, as an extra!
Excellent experience. Wonderful chimichangas
Food was really good and so were the drinks!!!
They are very rudeWith no servers at all waited forA long timeFor them toGet our orders and then when They did very Unprofessional I truly dont recommend this restaurant at allDoesnt matter the view doesnt matterAnything else its all about service and customer service Polite At all timesRegardless of whatever u are going throu But yetThey dont understand the Mexicans
Birria tacos were perfect. Chicken quesadilla comes with sour cream over them, ask for it on the side if not a fan of a mess.
Mexican restaurant at a great price and quality. Very good service from both waitresses, attentive, constantly refilling the water, and attentive. They bring you a red sauce with tortilla chips as soon as you sit down, which is very appreciated. I ordered a chorizo chimichanga and it was delicious, not oily at all, and with a lot of flavor. Highly recommended in general.
Good place good food just a little slow
Can never go wrong! So tasty! My go to s are the taco salad and the chicken enchiladas. The customer service is also top notch
I left with a full belly and a silly grin on my face, loved it
It was an amazing small place I loved the 3 hot sauces and the food was so full of flavor
Fish tacos and spicy Marg
didn t have have time to take a pic of the food was so delicious and drinks on point
The staff and bartenders are amazing very kind and efficient.
This place has the best Margaritas uptown! Every single friends or family member I ve brought here to try it out has loved their Margaritas and food! It s a small and cozy place. The owner is usually at this location and always happy to help. Their chips and salsa are everyone s faves too! The chips are always warm never salty and the salsa dip just makes them so tasty!
Delicious (if a bit pricey). Quality Mexican food.
This might be one of my favorite Mexican places ever. The staff is so friendly and I ve never been disappointed with a single entree I ve ever gotten. The drinks are strong and fabulous and everything is so flavorful. Theres outdoor seating during Covid that s heated and very warm too! This is my one of my go-to spots around me for a good meal, definitely definitely check it out!
Not mexican food...
There good
Food was great and the service was excellent also. Love the vibe and ambiance of the place. The Patron bottles on the lights really did it for me.
Great good food and drinks !!! best mexican restaurant in Harlem by far. If you are around the area you have to try it and reasonable prices !!!!
We loved our evening here... The food was nice... We were kinda loud and mightve been kicked out but they were cool and let us stay...the picture has three chimichangas but I only got one big one. The drinks were big and delicious
Pollo asado Is delicious, and the waitresses friendly, professional and beautiful, prices are not very expensive
I love it, its super delicious and at a good price. The attention is excellent. 5/5
It was our first meeting from the opening of the indoor eating. Sisthas On The Go!!!. The food and drinks were good and we had a good time!!!!! Thanks
Good drinks
The margaritas are AMAZING!
service was disappointing, order was not what we asked for, no one checked in on my waiting friend who was hungry for an appetizer, friend allergic to cheese and food came with cheese after asking for no cheese, my quesadilla came with meat when none was requested more but you get it.... I bragged about this place and probably will not return.
I ordered a mole poblano and the sauce had no flavor and the chicken came in small pieces as if it were a stew and only with three tortillas
Friendly wait staff and great food.
The food is deliciousssss ... I would recommend the skirt steak anyday ... the nachos with chicken are amazing!!!
The seafood soup is very good
The waiter got my order wrong twice. Didnt even try to clarify. Was too rude.
By far the best wings Ive ever had.... They have a great steak as well.
Drink & food was excellent even the service get 5 stars thank you I will go back. Please go see it for yourself
I liked the place, to share with your partner or take a loved one to eat. The food is delicious.
WARNING: This is going to be as long as I waited to be serviced here. I ve been coming here for about 7 years and bragged about this place to my cousins as a place to go to as our first outing since COVID. I ve always loved their margaritas and fajitas. It seems there s been a change in management for the worst. I will never come here again nor will I recommend it to others. After 2 out of our party of 4 were seated and given menus, 10 minutes goes by, our waitress doesn t even introduce herself or simply give us water. A mix raced couple is seated next to us, the waitress emerges from the back of the restaurant and immediately gives them water. At first we simply assumed it was because I had a near empty bottle of water on the table so I tapped the waitress and asked her to bring us some as well, which she did and finally introduced herself after. I tell her that the rest will be here shortly, which they did arrive less than 5 mins after. She takes our drink orders. At the same time we notice another black woman who was seated outside walk in and ask for her drink from the bartender as service was slow. We laugh and say we hope that isn t us. Our drinks arrived and the frozen margaritas are so thick that you can t even drink it through the straw, a spoon would have been nice to have instead of a straw. We noticed they were making a new batch with the machine so we simply ask to return that batch and wait for the new. The waitress plays dumb and says it s from the machine (no duh) and only tells the bartender with no intention of changing our drinks. We ask for the manager because all we want is a new damn drink, no big deal right?! Wrong. We don t know what the waitress told the manager, but as soon as the manager walks over, she has an attitude! She asks what s the problem in a passive aggressive manner and tried talking to us as we were dumb and don t know frozen margaritas come from machines. I explain to her that I always come here and never had one so thick that I can t even drink properly. After going back and forth she finally agreed to let us change it for the fresh batch. She walked away to go talk to the waitress looks at us and rolls her eyes lmao. If it wasn t for the fajitas I was dying for, I would have left right away but noooooo, I thought things would get better. The fresh batch comes out a little less thicker, but we re able to drink it. 15 mins goes by, no one takes our order and the rest of the party didn t have water either until we said something about the lack of service. At this point the couple next to us were already enjoying their meal and we were there first. 40 mins at this point. The waitress comes back and she s friendlier for the moment, but then disappears again. We had to wave down another waiter who was way friendlier for help. The fajitas came out dry and bland. We also noticed when the next YT couple were seated next to us, they were given menus and glasses of water immediately, refilled water, all within ten minutes. Moral of the story here, don t go here if you re black. You won t get serviced. I wish the old, authentic staff were still there! Never had this issue until yesterday.
Good food
Place with excellent fresh food with varieties of seafood and meat. Excellent chefs with experience and good margaritas and pina coladas all year round, handmade or flour tortillas, above all, the attention of the owners and waiters with respect and kindness... I highly recommend them if you can, take some time and visit them... best Mexican food in Manhattan
I got the chimichanga and it was very good, and I got a classic margarita and it was very strong I loved it!
The food is wonderful and the drinks are STRONG AND DELICIOUS!
This is the worst experience ever. We waited 30 minutes for our drinks with no service. When we asked our server what was going on, she explained that the bartender was drunk. We approached the manager, Susana, about refunding us our money (which we paid in cash and she had it on hand). she walked away and ignored us. I ve never been somewhere so unprofessional and with such bad customer service. I will never advise coming here.
Good vibes, the attention Valentín, the waiter is friendly and very attentive, the drinks are good in terms of food, the shrimp ala diabla are good for those who eat spicy and more for those who eat raw or with a hangover, it is the same recommended
Real Mexican food, made with love. Popular with the locals. Lowered my rating from 5 to 2 stars because the service at night is *HORRIBLE*! If you like good food and being ignored by wait staff, this is the place for you.
Huge portions, good prices, and great staff. What more could you want in a restaurant? They also have great chimichangas.
El Porton pandemic adorned views Delicious meals to be had in their outdoor Casita. Satisfied and cozy in Harlem.
I got enchiladas de pipian to go today... When I got home and started eating them I saw that it was all PORK FAT NOT one little piece of pork meat... it was all PORK FAT! It was so gross. I usually like the taste of the food in there but I can definitely see the quality of the meat has gotten from ok to gross over the past few months. I will never get stuff from them again.
Food was good, server forgot to bring silverware after reminding a couple times, but they were pretty busy when I visited and due to the server shortage I know everyone s slammed. Margarita was refreshing.
Excellent
Underwhelmed, to say the least. Seems to me they survive on a captive audience. Drinks prices arent posted and we were charged $15/each for a basic house margarita. When we asked, the waiter said the house pour was Patron. Nice business model you have there! I wont be coming back, and had been hoping this would be a go-to spot in my new neighborhood.
Delicious! Very authentic and good portion size
Slow service and the enchiladas gave me a stomach ache
I doordashed their chilaquiles and they were fantastic!!! Not a fan of their horchata but the food was so good I didn t even care :)
Amazing food amazing service amazing prices 10/10
Food was decent, the steak tacos and chicken quesadilla were really good, the chicken taco was nothing fancy. Service was mediocre and the lemonade was very sweet and you could see the sugar at the bottom of the glass, not dissolved. Not my favorite place.
Drinks and food pure Mexican
Very nice. Good price.
It is a small but cozy place, the attention of the girls is very friendly, the food is good and the drinks are equally good. Recommended at 100.
I had the beef nachos, delish. The drinks are good too.
I was around 125th and googled horchata near me and this place popped up. So being pregnant I had to have it. Also I saw a review saying it was good. So I walked from 8th Avenue to broadway and order a horchata a large one. The girl comes out with a 8oz drink at most and charges me 4.50. Super disappointed then she asks me if I want my change which for a small drink of course I do. I walk out and taste my drink and it s very bland you can barely taste the seeds. So sad. They need to fix the prices of the over charged drink.
Great Mexican restaurant!
I hadnt been in many years but this time was super special. While visiting from Ohio, I requested that we visit my favorite Mexican Restaurant for some shots Soooo My best friend took me to have some flaming Cucarachas! (Kailua, Tequila and 151) ... Marisol the bartender had no idea how to make them and resisted at first. After a quick pep talk she attempted them, but without 151, using Barcardi Gold instead. They were decent, but then, she found the 151 ... 5 rounds later we had started a trend . Great time and I will not wait so long to come back!!
Place was great. Food tasted fresh and the margaritas were awesome. Recommend completely
