I LOVE this place. I cant even express how delicious their galbi meal is. I live an hour away from them but everytime Im in the area I make sure to get some food. Top notch !

The food is amazing, fresh and flavourful. The portion sizes are very generous for the price and the staff is very friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

Drove down from Bradford and got stuck in traffic. Live in Barrie and when I come through on Sundays they are closed. So came on a Friday after work got here a few mins before 3 when they close for break and got turned away. I wont even attempt to return to this place which is to bad because the food was good when I visited last time

We had not try this restaurant but was pleasantly surprised. The flavour is very nice and the vegetables were perfect. We enjoyed the meal tremendously.

Always get the Beef Bulgogi on rice and its great and very consistent.

I ordered the glass noodles and a few appetizers. I had the runs the next day. Not sure what happened there, but certainly has to do with what I ate.

Super yummy Korean fusion street food style. Try the lunch specials, decent deal given inflation. Mostly take out but small dine in. Very consistent and friendly. My favorite is the bulgogi beef on rice or spicy chicken udon; both perfect comfort food and reasonably healthy.

Took so long (even when ordering on the phone, they will still ask more 10mins that are actually 20mins). And at the end was extremely expensive (almost 40) for just one plate. Service is dull/bad. I wont go back.

Great lunch specials hot and fresh

I recently went to this restaurant, and it was delicious. Just keep in mind that you have to walk to the counter to place an order; dont wait for it to be taken. Theres also a 5% discount if you pay cash. Additionally, the staff is really friendly, and Im not sure why customers within the restaurant need a key to access the restroom.

Read great reviews so thought it worth trying but got disappointed. Looked over the menu and ordered spicy udon with cicken. First of all the price doesnt match whats in google. Paid 20 dollars while it says 16 and 13! Noodle had very very (yeah thats not typo, i said very two times) few chicken pieces, mainly veggies despite asking for chicken one! Maybe 2 small size pieces and few tiny ones. Worse than that it was burnt! Could smell the burning and see burnt pieces! And the test wasnt that great! Nice people tho! Feel bad for putting negative review but i am honest on all my google reviews. I will give it another try some other time and if see better results i will edit my review!

Good food

I m a very picky eater and try new food cautiously. I found this place on Google and as I wanted to try traditional Korean food, I gave it a shot. The lady at the reception was super friendly, respectful, and kindly answered all my questions about the foods on the menu. I ordered Bulgogi on the rice and was not disappointed at all! To be honest, that was, by far, the best Asian food I ve ever tried! Savoury, flavourful and generous portion. Highly recommended. will definitely visit again to try the other items on their menu.

10/10. I had the beef bulgogi bowl and it was phenomenal. Will definitely be back here.

I went there today and ordered a Smoked Salmon roll. However, the rolls were too big and filled with sauce, so I couldnt finish it there and I had to stop eating. I also ordered Edamame beans for takeout and found them a bit expensive at $9. The staff were nice and service was good.

We get the bento bulgogi and spicy bbq chicken both taste good , sushi and Salad as well . Tho the grilled mix veggies were too salty . Very nice filipina lady who took our order and serve the meal .

The spicy chicken udon noodle lunch special was some of the best noodles I ve ever had- and as a noodle enthusiast that is saying something! Could not recommend this place more :) if you re debating it, go!

Tried the hot yam sushi. As an avid sushi fan whos tried sushi from Toronto to L.A when I tell you this is the BEST SUSHI IVE TRIED IN MY LIFE- Im not kidding. Phenomenal. If youre ever in the area and you choose to try something else youre making a mistake.

Please do not eat here.. I found hair mixed in with the chicken and in the salad. I want a refund. Im absolutely disgusted. Please go elsewhere.

Good for what it is, a fusion of two cultured foods and they do it they dont boot you off WiFi ever either its a Hotspot. Bless

Tried the Smoked salmon roll and the Bulgogi roll and they tasted great! Would have preferred a little less of the sauce on top as it can sometimes overpower the taste of the roll. The place only does takeout. Would recommend ordering on the phone prior to getting there otherwise you might have to wait for about 20-30 mins while they prepare your order. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

BEST Korean and Japanese food i had in awhile i can literally eat here all the time--usually order from skipthedishes but it was even better dining in--never disappointed!!!!

My family has been eating at On the Rice for months now and we absolutely love it. Everything we have ordered is amazingly good and fresh. Spicy but not too hot and so tasty. They always set the expectation on how long the food will take and are usually right on time. Thank you for never disappointing!

We really enjoyed all of our dishes from Bento box to Ramen noodles. A little pricey and a little slow. We had to wait 20 mins extra for food we preordered. Loved the food and will do it again when were not in a hurry.

Found this gem on google when I passed by Newmarket and looking for lunch. It s a fusion between Korean and Japanese foods. Glad that I stopped here and tried their lunch. Ordered spicy bbq pork and teriyaki chicken bento, both served with miso soup. The interior was not too spacious but enough to accommodate for 4-5 tables of dine in. I was very surprised with the taste of my spicy bbq pork, I believe they must have marinated with Korean sauce and added sweet mayo to make it so flavourful. The portion was generous, they do have lunch special (slightly better deal) and I definitely will come back again to try different menu! Really enjoyed my order!

Small place but great food! Their service is pretty good as well. Bulgogi was delicious as well as the korean meatloaf bowls. Would come again, the portions are filling which is what I want in a place!

Got both the Kalbi & Bulgogi beef bowls which were so so good. The food was super fresh and the portions are huge. Our favourite was the Kalbi bowl. I dont think there was an area to dine in and not sure if its normal but we had to wait 20 minutes for our order.

Had the Bulgogi On The Rice and Takoyaki. Everything was delicious and totally satisfied my cravings for good Korean food. The Owner/Employees were very friendly and had my order ready quickly. If I had any complaints (and I don t), I would say the Takoyaki were a bit small and they were gone in a blink of an eye. But that might be my fault.

Food is great but wish they offered the bulgogi and the ribs on their own as appetizers. I sometimes just want those and not the rice and soup. I bet they would make a lot more money if tried this but the bulgogi, ribs are amazing especially with the garlic sauce.

This place really lives up to the reviews!! The bulgogi was really yummy and the quality of the meat shined through. The kimchi has a great zing to it. Definitely one of the better korean fusion places Ive been to! The spicy bbq chicken wasnt very spicy but not bad.

Honestly I did not know what to expect from the lack luster sign but omg that is some of the best food I have ever eaten in my life.

This place is overrated, The food was trash. I ordered spicy BBQ chicken, it was too greasy, all I can taste was oil. They also add sprouts which made the taste awful. I expected fried rice which most places do with this price tag but it was just plain boiled rice. They will also give one kind of watery soup with the dish, I took one sip and had to throw it away.

This food was far better than we expected when we arrived. Packed with flavour, generous portions, absolutely delightful. I never leave reviews but I felt I had to because this place deserves it.

Poor customer service. When i went to eat there we clearly ordered and said no lettuce as in no lettuce cabbage broccoli or any other vegetables under lettuce category but the food had cabbage at the end and when i said the food had lettuce the waitress mocks me and says lettuce and cabbages are two different things and didnt give any refund or redo the dish. My family and I love On The Rice. We drive from Scarborough to Newmarket just for On The Rice. The quality of their food is top-notch, the flavours are delicious, and their service is excellent. It is such a pleasure to have an honourable and attentive place such as On The Rice. They put love and care into every plate and it shows!

Undoubtedly one of THE BEST restaurants in Ontario...not just Newmarket! Not even kidding. My family and I drive all the way from Scarborough just to eat at On The Rice. Their food is AMAZING. The beef bulgogi and the spicy pork is our favourite. The meat is tender and delicious, their vegetables have that yummy grill flavour and are super crunchy, their portions are very generous, and their prices are reasonable. We ordered 16 beef bulgogi for our sales team and everyone thought it was delicious. Its not often we get 100% of our staff that says they Loved it! Highly recommend!

Okay it might sound like I m bashing the place, but quite the opposite. Wanted to try something different around the area. Just another lazy day that I don t want to cook at home. The name sounded catchy, so I thought I visit. First impression from the outside I thought it was some old beat down place that might not be very sanitary. I was wrong, you can see into their kitchen, though it wasnt very bright, it didn t look dirty. No idea what I was gonna get, so I asked for recommendation. They didn t give me one, they just said oh the rice is a popular choice and whatever meat you want. Boy, that lead me to 2 things, either they are very confident that everything is good or everything is meh and they don t care. Okay I ordered, got home, so I asked for no onions and they screwed that up. However when I actually ate it, yum taste like home cooked mom s food. Yeah, that s right, a little taste of home. Half way through my meal, yeah, I was definitely getting full. They didn t cheap out in the meat, you actually get a fair portion of meat versus rice. So conclusion? A very typical mom and pop shop feeling, a place I am very comfortable to go to often to support over corporate giants dominating the everyday people. Food taste? It s not a world class, but I like it, enough to see myself go back commonly. I would say 8/10 Price? Yeah it s not expensive, it s about the price of a McDonald s meal, but you get soup. Healthier and imo, you actually get more. YES, I do recommend you try it out, then judge.

I was really excited reading the reviews for this place, and eager to try. IMHO it did not live up to the hype. It was okay. Id give it 3.5 stars if that was an option. First, the staff are very nice and friendly. Big plus there. I had the spicy pork which seemed to be the most popular choice. It was okay. Far too much sauce IMHO, I scraped a lot of it off before eating. If I ordered again, Id get it on the side, or not at all. The pork was okay. Not as spicy or flavourful as I had hoped. The grilled vegetables were a nice touch, I appreciated the grilled flavour, but I had two huge pieces of almost raw cabbage that detracted a little bit. The beef dumplings were okay. First one I bit into had a bone fragment....not a big deal. Taste was okay. I might try a couple more dishes to be fair, as it wasnt bad....just didnt match my expectations. Japchae and Bibimbap would be on my list next.

I have frequented On the Rice many times and without a doubt, their food is nothing short of amazing. The burning yam is my favourite - but all their meals are high quality food that leaves you most satisfied. No matter who serves you, there is always a smile and great service!

This place is such a great find. A gem. Great food, lots of selection and an incredibly friendly staff. My kid is hooked on their bulgogi so I grab takeout on my way back from work regularly. Their garlic sauce is the best around!

i ordered some food for me and my mom on a whim and it was soooo good! you can tell they really care about the food they re making, it was fresh and delicious. they had very nice and fast service even though they were swamped with delivery orders. i m definitely making this a weekly dinner :)

Delicious vegetarian options! The tofu teriyaki is so good and a huge portion. The lunch special is a great value. The Burning Yam roll is also vegetarian (it s really not that spicy) and one of the best vegetarian sushi rolls I ve ever had! And the staff/owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. Perfectly cooked meat and flavourful veggies every time! We drive more than an hour back and forth just for the amazing food. I ve tried a variety of dishes from the menu and they re all so tasty. My favourite is the spicy pork on rice , and my picky child loves the Korean meatloaf. Highly recommend!!

Got an Uber eats delivery from here. The food tasted really good and fresh! Portion size was good for the price as well. I got a Bulgogi Bento and everything was very good. The miso soup was delicious and I enjoyed the sushi rolls as well and the bulgogi. The beef was cooked perfectly and the garlic sauce is a nice flavour addition. I will definitely be trying more items from this restaurant. Thanks for staying in business and serving us!

My new favorite lunch spot. Absolutely love the Spicy Chicken Katsu Ramen.

I was traveling due to essential business, and wanted to do a good dinner. While looking into rice option, I found this place with 5 star rating. So I tried dynamite roll and chicken katsu curry bento box. I must say the portion was generous and vegetables were fresh. The rice was perfectly cooked and really enjoyed the entire dish. I have not seen many place do a good job of Japanese curry, but this place did an amazing job. It was a perfect combo with chicken katsu. Mind you, the place does not have many dish selections but it makes a mouth-watering homemade but professional dish to come back again and again.

Hidden gem! I was in the area with my husband for work, I saw this place had such great reviews and now I know why. The service was friendly and fast. But the FOOD!!!! Incredible, so delicious, fresh tasting, and the portion for the price you cannot beat! Will absolutely be coming here again!

Just tried this place today, Im always wary of trying new places in Newmarket due to poor experience but wow this place surprised me! They cook fresh to order so it is best to order ahead of time so you dont have to wait that long. We tried the lunch special spicy BBQ chicken and asked for less spice, it was divine. There is rice, veggies, chicken and miso soup with generous amount for sauce. We will be back to try more of their dishes

Oh, where to get started: This place is amazing. The customer service is extremely warm and friendly!!! The prices are extremely fair and the portions are large! We ordered Shrimp Wonton Soup, Beef Dumplings, Spring Rolls, Japche, Fried Udon w Chicken and Chicken Teriyaki. Every dish was phenomenal! Go try this place today! We will be back. Love this place and cant say enough about how great the food is. This is my go to place when picking up something quick to eat.

My son and I, picked up dinner there tonight. The menu inside is very visible and attractive. The food packaging and presentation of dishes are impeccable. I appreciate the attention to each vegetable to release their own flavor, maintain texture and the consciousness of the amount of sodium. I had the Tofu Teriyaki OTR and my son had the Spicy BBQ Chicken OTR, which comes with Miso soup.

Grate place, the lunch special with three items is an amazing deal, It s two dollars more than the meal with only one man can you get three times as much food, I really like the chicken curry but it s hit or miss sometimes you get it and whoever is making it makes it very watery, Other times you get it and it s got a nice thick curry sauce on it,

Great Korean dishes, their Bibimbap is delicious.

An interesting restaurant that serves dishes that seem to be familiar but different. The on the rice dishes come with cooked vegetables and garlic sauce which makes the dish taste almost like Lazeez in its sauce. The yam fries is tempura yam sticks which go well with the sauce they provide. All in all the meal was tasty and leaves you satisfied.

Wow! Really nice take out spot in the corner of a dead plaza. Definitely worth the visit. I came on 9/16/21 around an hour before closing. Ordered the A7 Takoyaki, 01 Bulgogi, and the 09 Chicken Katsu curry. All three items were made in 15 min and made on the spot, nothing prepped except for the side dishes. When I first opened the takoyaki I stared at it with disbelief because of how small it was but I have to say that after eating it. I was astonished at how great it was. Markham has amazing varieties of takoyakis but this place definitely is in my top 5 for quality and taste!

Smells awesome when open the lid! Meatloaf is a little bit dry but the texture is firm. I like it. more garlic is preferred. My friend s order Spicy BBQ chicken is also very good. Very generous sauce go well with rice.if u like curry don t forget to try the chicken katsu

Ive been wanting to try this place based on the reviews for a little while and now that I have Im definitely coming back! Lovely owners and delicious Korean food. I got three lunch special items: bulgogi (really good), spicy pork (even better), and the burning yam roll (also very very good) which is basically like a torched salmon roll but subbed with yam, so its vegetarian but tastes just as good!! The garlic mayo on the meat dishes is such a nice touch. Almost reminds me of shawarma but with Korean food!! Best of both worlds.

It was very good. A tad pricey though. However I would go back.

This is a great place! The owners are really nice, and the food is cheap! I really recommend coming here.

My partner and I heard some good things about this place and figured we give it a try. We ordered spring rolls, spicy bbq chichen and bugolgi. This was one of the best meals Ive had in a very long time. Very nice ratios of meat, rice and veg. It tasted like real food! Not fast food. (We find that doo many restaurants feel like fast food, even expensive places) Every thing was very fresh and you got sooo much food for the price. All 3 items cost us $29 and gave us 2 meals!! We cant wait to come back!!

Ordered dinner here as per recommended by a friend. Delicious food, large portions, and very friendly service. The salmon and tofu bento boxes were both very fresh, and the ramen portion was huge. We will definitely be back!

Ordered the bulgogi for my fiance and I and, it was absolutely delicious! My fiance isnt too keen on beef but he inhaled this dish. The lady working the front was also very kind. I cannot wait to try more dishes! Highly recommend.

A great little spot in Newmarket. The food tasted amazing and the portions were large and reasonably priced. The lady who took my order graciously gave recommendations since it was my first time there. I tried the Spicy Chicken Udon and the Short Ribs (Galbi). I went back twice in the same week. Next up..trying the Bulgogi! If you find yourself in the area, definitely check them out!

Simply delicious and the best tasting food I ve had lately!

The food is fantastic. We had a little miscommunication in regards to the Uber but Min took the time to call and text me to make sure I will come back. The food was absolutely astounding and will defiantly be returning. Thanks again Min for the amazing food and service.

Went there again for take out. Kids loved it. Even though we had to reheat our food cause we live far from the place, still delicious!!! It was so much and we finished all in 2 days. Cant wait to go back again. My favorite dish is BULGOGI!!!

The food is consistently great. I love their Bibimbap, order with stir fry vegetables and extra sauce, so good. Spring rolls are excellent.The staff is super friendly and very professional. I always feel welcomed and my business appreciated! Highly recommended

Amazing service. Ordered through uber eats and they had forgotten the curry on my order. One of the people at the restaurant noticed this and drove the sauce over to me! They also gave me a couple extra canned pops for the inconvenience. I really appreciate it :) thanks On the Rice!!!

Very tasty food, the owner is very friendly and you can tell she prides herself in her food. Always fresh ingredients and cooked fresh, very good value especially their lunch menu. Check em out!

Gave OTR a try based on high reviews. I dont think the bulgogi roll was as great as others rave about, but still a surprisingly great meal. Really enjoyed Japchae, Spicy Chicken OTR, Galbi OTR, and Curry chicken Katsu OTR. Yam fries were amazing too. Nice people, fair pricing and great portions.

This is a nice hideaway take out place. The shrimp wonton soup is pretty good. The staff is very friendly. I go out of my way to get their soup - simple and good.

We casually dropped by for food as we dropped off equipment to a coworker.... And my god, this is basically a hidden gem. Amazing food! Well drive up to Newmarket just to hit up this gem. We got spicy bbq pork lunch special. Well worth it! Soooo good!

Best Bulgogi in Newmarket! The chef here is a master at mixing flavours, the beef had an amazing grilled flavour that I just havent experienced anywhere else. A great shop with great food and friendly staff, be sure to try them out!
