Davis diner in Newmarket

Recently went on a weekend and found rather unsanitary conditions. Server was cleaning washroom taking out garbage and serving food. I believe the server should only be serving food. Not the cleaning bathrooms or taking out garbage. That should be for someone else to do. Owner takes money from the servers tips. He should not be getting any of the tips. He isn t serving the food. I will never go back. Will go to the new Wimpus diner where the food is way better

I WAS THERE ONE WEEKEND WITH MY GIRLFRIEND AND THE WAITRESS THAT SERVED ME THROUGH THE MENUS AT US AND WE WERE IN SHOCK SHE DIDNT SMILE OR EVEN TALK. WE DO NOT NEED TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT . My friend introduced me to this place about 6 months ago and it has been a regular stop for us. It used to be a Wimpys and became a casualty of the covid-19 pandemic. It was purchased by a new Canadian family a year or two ago and they have delivered continuous excellent food and service since then. Today we had a an interesting situation happen where Michelle a new server on the floor took care of us over lunch. When it came time to process our bill there was a small glitch and we paid him bill that was $4.50 less than our bill. Michelle was nervous and the owner came to say she would cover it instead of charging us the extra 4.50. I know it sounds crazy over less than $5 but we argued with her to allow us to pay the extra. My argument was this. We all have a responsibility when there is a good place in our neighborhood that we like to keep it going. We need to make sure that if we want these places here, we need to patronize them and become regulars. And most of all we need to make sure that we support the people who take on the risk to place these restaurants near our homes. So many times Ive heard people regret the closing of a place that they said they loved and then when you asked them how often they ate there it was only once or twice. If you value things, treat them as things of value.. Oh, by the way again, food was awesome service was awesome

I came in with my service dog today and I felt horrible because Aiko had shook right at the front door when I walked in and I didnt want the establishment to feel imposed upon with health regulations. I was really appreciative because everyone was really nice to me. I of course had her documentation that explains why shes with me in the restaurant (dont worry I didnt just walk in with my animal expecting to have dog fur etc around food I understand normal dogs arent allowed in the restaurant.) They handled me with such welcoming service and the food was absolutely delicious. As someone who has to have her animal with her because of her circumstances; It really made me feel comfortable, respected and understood. I would definitely go back anytime to this restaurant because everyone was lovely and the food (I even devoured) how amazing it was. I wanted to apologize for having to bring Aiko in with me. ut I will definitely spread the word about how amazing your establishment was for myself, my grandmother and husband <3 Thank you <3 Serenity

This place is always neat and clean. Staff are extremely friendly and use extreme caution with food intolerances. Meal portions are fine and delicious.

Only good thing was they kept the wimpys diner rock and roll theme. Wated 25 min to be served. And 40 min to get my wings I chose hot.. tasted pretty mild. At least they cooked it right where they where crispy. The fries could of been hotter and more fluffy in the middle.

Very traditional diner from the 50s and 60s. Monte Cristo was pretty good but could have used some strawberry jam to sweeten it up. Fries were excellent! C got the Burger Melt and was not fond of the garlic (powder?) in the burger. Prices and portions were also very good.

Great service but not a very good experience with breakfast today. I ordered the breakfast special without eggs and a tea which was included in the price. Tea and toast were perfect ,the sausages were burnt and the home fries lukewarm. Not impressed.

The Experience at Davis Diner is 1 I wish on no one. Only 8 people in restaurant appeared to be more staff than Patrons. Waitress asked if I wanted coffee to start, said No. She set down menu down and started to walk away as i was telling her my order a small cheeseburger. She just walked away. now only 4 patrons in restaurant when she returns a 1/2 Hour later . looks and smiles and says forgot about you were so busy. Placed order Wrong order comes to my table return to kitchen for proper order finally arrives 50 minutes after I did. Burger tasted like something I would not feed a dog currently have 2nd thoughts about what I ate. Did not finish all of burger. Restaurant charged me for full meal and wondered why there was not a tip Man in Black

The diner is pretty good Ive havent tried their foods but overall the diner is pretty solid and this is my first time in this diner.

The old Wimpys hasnt changed much. The food was perfect, I had bacon and eggs Over easy with rye. The service was the best Ive had by an older lady with tattoos. She is honestly inspiring. The vibe still maintains that old time diner feel as well. I dont live in Newmarket anymore but I visit often. Ill definitely be back many more times.

Excellent food and friendly service despite being super busy. I love the Southwest Benedict - huge serving and delicious. Hubby had the clubhouse and fries and loved it. Fries are fresh - not frozen and clubhouse had big chunks of real roasted meat. He ate too fast for me to get a good photo!

Classic diner. If you want eggs, breakfast starch and a breakfast meat in various configurations this would be the place to get it. Waffles are average, pancakes are good, cant comment on the French toast or regular toast. We ate here for breakfast both days we were staying in the area. Waitress had a good sense of humor, and there seem to be a bunch of iconic regulars who hang out here. Exactly what I want in a breakfast diner Parking: There is a parking lot, but it is not huge. We did find a spot both days. But it was not crowded. It could be more difficult earlier or busier

They had a western special, food was good but nothing included, and sandwich was small due to them using the smallest end pieces from the rye bread...disappointing amount for the price!! Atmosphere was good and service good otherwise. Just not sure if I would return.

Service was exceptional. Its such a treat to be served by a mature person who makes their service job a career. No whining, just hard work and attentiveness. Wheelchair accessibility: Its surprising that Davis Diner has not been made accessible for those with mobility challenges, given that it is required by law. People using walkers or wheelchairs would find it difficult to access the diner.

I ve been on the hunt for the best Cubano m for a while now and let me tell youuuu when I found out they have a Cuban sandwich on their menu I had to check it out and god damnnnn was it bombbbb, they do they our own take on a cubano with peameal bacon and ham on this super buttery bun which was amazing!!! It s like a Canadian Cubano and it s to die for!! I can t wait to go back n have another one!!!!

Parking: Only 5-10 parking spots as its a small area on the corner of two busy streets.

Great place for a quick bite. Atmosphere is old school with pictures plastered on every inch of wall space and there is a jute box at every table, definately something you dont see at many places these days!

Beware of scamming! I order from wimpys all the time take out. I get combo all the time tonight when I ordered combo I was told sorry you can t get that drink with combo I have to charge you more. I ordered 2 days ago and got the combo how is it different 3 days later. Who drinks pop with eggs??! Seriously So manager after arguing with server gave me one drink on combo. I should have gotten 2. They lost a customer today and by the looks of an empty restaurant at diner three need the business. My wife runs a restaurant in Newmarket a very large restaurant and told me how unprofessional and this is server trying to make a buck bigger bill bigger tip. Or their servers are misinformed and uneducated on there menu. So manager was good but server put up the fight. Really who was pop with eggs Update your menu wimpys Very unprofessional. We ordered once a week and won t be ordering again.

This is no longer a Wimpys but rather an independent diner. The service and my breakfast deserve full marks, but it was a bit pricey, which will impact how often I return to treat myself. Other, less expensive, alternatives are available nearby.

It is now Davis Dinner and it was very good the servers are wonderful and the food is good.

No longer called Wimpys. Same staff but service today (Sunday, just before noon) was very slow and inconsistent. Guests who arrived after us were served before us. When they brought our food, they said my daughters pasta would be right up. It took more than 10 minutes and a reminder from us to get her kids meal. Food quality is the same as Wimpys with the menu generally unchanged. Ill come back but it might be a while before I give them another chance. Kid-friendliness: There is a kids menu.

Used to go when it was wimpys. I went yesterday and besides being expensive for what you get, one dish of chicken fingers looked refried over and over. The chicken fingers were all fat veiny pieces that could not be eaten. I won t go again. I asked for a Coke Zero expecting a fountain drink, then they showed up with a small bottle for 3 dollars.

Service was friendly but SO SLOW! Food was just average..I personally will NOT be back...I just didnt enjoy the whole experience.

Called Davis Diner now. Gave us dirty cups and cutlery, service incredibly slow and the place itself was dirty. My brand new spoon was all sticky and my cup had lipstick on it. Disgusting. Quality fell horribly since changing name and owner.

Although the name has changed (left the franchise), the food, staff, and decor are still the same. The decor is a bit dated, though the look is supposed to be 50`s diner, its just a bit tired somehow. The food is solid, with reasonable portions, though nothing super inspiring. What they do have is very warm and friendly staff and, if for that reason alone, I would recommend it as a pleasant spot for breakfast or lunch.

Ate here every day whilst on my vacation from the UK. Lovely waitress, food and ambiance; clean, light and airy. Defo recommend. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free bread was available and knowledge of food preparation is evident.

I gave local a try. It really frustrates me to leave a low review, I think largely due to the businesses lack of authenticity and service. I showed up as a breakfast for one, and I could tell immediately that this location would have preferred that I was not there. I ordered and was not checked on for how my food was, and if I needed any condiments, the usual. I watched as my server, potentially the owner was selectively overly kind to particular, full tables. I also witnessed that the older bus boy was being scolded in a harsh manner for cleaning too much silverware. Watching this quick dichotomy from fake pleasant to downright mean spoiled my meal. When I asked for the bill, paid and left the staff neither looked at or said anything to me. In terms of my overall assessment this is an unsettling atmosphere. It feels more like an assembly line for profit then a loving breakfast place. The former retro decor cannot rescue this place from its cold management and staff members. The price is high for what you get. I was not impressed with the eggs benedict being cooked in egg moulders. It just lends to this review. There s no small sides like fruit. It just feels like a gouge and a place that leaves you feeling sad and depressed. I m extremely local and, I would have been a potential big profit to this business. Now due to this experience I would rather drive to my main local breakfast place. And I will.
