1st time there. Has lunch. My Reuben was just ok. Nothing special wouldnt order it again. My wife had the quesadea and gives it 5 of 5. Onion rings were good. Good service. Lots of TVs so good place to catch a game. Standard beer selection.

Went to see a live show, great band - but the sound was impossible. So damn loud, but could t make out any vocals. It was all drums and noise. Shame. Never saw a server either, ask for a menu - had to get it from the bar myself and still the server never showed. Service

My 3rd time there for lunch and each time I had the Liver, Bacon, & Onions. The mashed potatoes & gravy and the fresh vegetables were as exceptional as the Liver. Even the Bacon was fresh fried. The presentation was mouthwatering . The servers are always pleasant and attentive. I sat in the bar area, since I was by myself, so I could enjoy the big screen TV. I am really going to try to order something different next time and will let you know!

Take out food and wings been declining for several months. I will not return. 2 pounds of Wings were over cooked, dried out, and frankly not worth eating.

Honestly this has gotta be the best place Ive eaten at in ages, good prices and phenomenal food, i was pleasantly surprised.

Good first visit, nachos were pretty good slightly under cooked cheese wasnt fully melted underneath. The Caesar Salad had real dressing and was very surprised. A hint of freshness and slight order of fish though. Overall very enjoyable.

This was one of the most amazing eating experience I have had to date. I was amazed to find some distinctive features in the quality of their food here that are simply lost these days and are hard to find at many places, and trust me when I say this because I have been to MANY places as a a big food aficionado . They have an extensive menu for any pub/ restaurant. Expect to find more than hundred dishes with a lot of variety in each category that you expect to find on the menu of this sort of a place. Then comes the portion sizes which are pretty generous for all the things I had there on two occasions. Prices are pretty affordable too. Many items are priced much more reasonably as compared to similar items you would find in a fancy or another upscale restaurant. Then service is overall good and the staff was friendly. Kudos to the great dinning experience offered!

Food was ok, nothing special but had to wait a long time for service and food. We noticed how dirty the windows were when we came in the front door and thought they mustnt care about their place.

Heard great thing about this place but that wasnt my experience. My date ordered beet salad and i had the Jambalaya. The beet salad lettuce tasted like it wasnt washed and the cheese didnt taste right. The Jambalaya had peppers, onions, celery and rice which was VERY hot and undercooked. Thankfully the chicken was somewhat eatable and the sausages could of been cooked more. The server gave us one napkin between us and then was gone the rest of meal. We could not finish our food, uneatable which was obvious from the full plates. Waitress did not even ask how our meal was and when she offered boxes and we declined, still no concern for our meal. I LOVE pub food but unfortunately because of the food and service i dont think ill be back.

Was an excellent location for an evening meal and a couple of games of darts. Now they are not sure if they want to be a sports bar , dance club, or drag bar

Newmarket location feb 24 2024 6pm. Steak came out cold, asked for no onions on lobster poutine , came with onions short server guy who walks between the aisles swinging his arms, super loud, told the lady who its seemed like he knew, I can hear your loud f n laugh from Across the room. Right in front of my child. I don t care if he knew her I don t allow that vernacular in front of my children . Waited 25 mins for bill. 150$ down the drain. Will never repeat

Sheldon is literally fantastic and a blessing to this location!! Talk about a breath of fresh air. If you get Sheldon as your server - youre a lucky person and youre in good hands!! Cannot rave about the experience more.

Avoid this place. Would give 0 stars if possible. Came out tonight for a birthday dinner with a group of 10. The waitress didn t ring in the last two items of our order to the kitchen because she didn t realize the printer had run out of ink or paper. One person received their meal about 10-15 minutes after the rest. And one other person at our table received their meal after everyone else was finished. This meal was not comped. At the end of the meal the waitress also came and asked if we would like a complimentary Apple blossom for the birthday boy at our table. Which we were extremely disappointed to see on our bill for an $8 charge afterwards. After discussing the disappointment to the acting manager on duty as said himself, he wished we come back to receive the complimentary Apple blossom next time. Poor customer service at this place which is a shame because the food was good. Again, avoid if possible.

Great spot for a hockey game

Honestly Liz and Nick saved the experience. My Dad wanted to go here for his birthday on Sunday march 10th. My boyfriend and i had had a long weekend of working and as it was just up the street we thought it was a good idea. Sunday night was horrible! We were told it was a little busy and there was gonna be a 10min wait. Which we said was fine as we were gonna be chitchatting. But chatting was very difficult. We basically had to scream at each other to hear ourselves over the band that was playing. We waited 30min for service from I believe Tasra. I was about to suggest leaving as it was unbearably loud and very cold. Our server finally appeared after liz asked if we d been helped. Tasra had no customer service. There were other tables chasing her down for their change or to get the bill. Liz had to be watching her like a hawk. Nick was serving other tables and was being an all star while our server was playing hide and seek with her tables. She had no sense of priorities. She got my dad his water while another table was telling her they wanted their change and were leaving. I assume they had been waiting for their change for quite some time. My dad had ordered the blackened salmon, i ordered the steak frites and my boyfriend ordered the Guinness poutine. The fish that came wasnt very black so my dad was just asking some questions if he got what he ordered cuz hes had blackened fish before. Liz politely explained why it wasnt very black and offered to take it back and cook it more. My dad turned down her offer saying he was just curious because it wasnt what he was picturing in his head but he felt like fish. Liz offered to comp it if it didnt meet his expectations. Luckily my dad really enjoyed his dinner. My boyfriend and I not so much. My boyfriend felt the gravy was way too salty, which was the same for my peppercorn sauce. There wasnt much flavour to it. And i had ordered a medium rare steak that came out close to well done. My steak was very tough but the fries were great. My dad and I have father daughter dinners on Wednesday nights so we thought we would go back and try again with the 30% off appetizers. We were greeted by Nick. When asked where we wanted to sit we wanted to express anywhere but Tasras section. Nick was kind enough to take care of us and the food was amazing! Nick has amazing customer service and had really lovely conversations with us. My dad got the battered mushrooms and the fish tacos and i had the tater kegs. Everything was absolutely delicious! Liz even came to say hi. I think some of your staff is amazing but the others either need more training or to be replaced. Because if there are other servers like Tasra or worse then they are toxic to the environment and will be deterring future customers from your establishment. If it wasnt for Liz and Nick my dad and I wouldnt be back. So please make the changes and adjustments needed accordingly. This is a cute little pub with good food. Cant wait to try the house made chicken souvlaki Liz was raving about. I was debating on a 3 star review for how bad Tasra was. But Nick and Liz bumped it up. Id honestly only give the place a one star review if it was only Tasra and the quality of the food sunday. For Nick and Liz i would give 5 stars. So the total review looses a star for how awful Sunday night was.

Ordered the bangers and mash. The bangers were freezer burnt, awful.

If you want great food with great and friendly service you have to try Castle John. Went again tonight, my husband had the wings and I had their seafood pasta Their wings are a really good size and we have to say, the best in Newmarket. My pasta was absolutely delicious. Polly our server, was so kind and friendly Thank you so much for such an enjoyable meal. We will definitely be back.

Thursday specials on wings. Excellent food with comfortable booths and large-screen TVs. The best sports bar in Newmarket for quality food, low prices, and enough space for private chats with friends and company. Last night, I enjoyed a feast with my best buddy while Pauline provided excellent service.

We stopped in for lunch over the holidays and Liz, our server was outstanding - friendly and helpful. The food (California Chicken Wrap, Turkey Club, Bruschetta, salad and soup -butternut) were all fresh and delicious. We will definitely be back - you can tell the kitchen cares about what they are serving.

Best service and best seafood pasta I have ever eaten

We ordered through Uber Eats. The food arrived fairly quickly but wasn t great. My partner got fish tacos which he described as meh. I got chicken wings and they were so dry and salty they were almost inedible. We won t be ordering again.

Horrible service. Wife and I ordered apps and mains. Wife got her app and main and finished before I received anything. Apparently the waiter didn t punch mine in. Funny thing is he wrote the order down when he took it. How do you forget to punch it in when you wrote it down! We just ended up leaving. Not even busy. The waiter was too busy socializing i guess!

Watched Happy Pants play here on St Patty s day (night). They were great, as usual but our waiter/server was phenomenal. Sheldon really knows his way around a bar and his experience shows. Great guy; funny, attentive and genuine. Live music, cold beer and Sheldon - a great night indeed. Castle Johns would be wise to keep Sheldon on their team as he sets the bar for other less-experienced personnel to emulate.

First time my gf and I went there the service and food was on point about a month ago so we decided to try it again today and the service was terrible we got seated and no one came to take a drink order or anything for a good 20 mins, and then after waiting we ordered and our food took awhile to come out and they weren t busy at all. Definitely won t be going back

Decided to drop by here for a quick snack and a drink and it was great. As we walked in, it didn t take long before we were seated. They have a large menu and we tried the different style of dishes they had and they were all good. Our server was very friendly and accommodating.

Tonight, my husband and I received exceptional service from our server, Viki. She provided prompt, friendly service and you could tell that she cared about our experience. We are regular customers who enjoy the quality of food and the atmosphere. The staff are all outgoing and welcoming every time. The menu has a lot to offer; delicious food and great value. We would highly recommend this restaurant.

Had only 1 waitress serving the whole place, she was doing her best but long wait, stuff missed etc. Was on Sunday afternoon so maybe just a bad time to go. Food was ok.

This is our second time here and once again we were amazed ! We were too early for the wing and rib combo special but the food we ordered was fantastic ! The ribs are sooooo good ! I love going to Rib fests and Castle Johns are way better !!!

It s never as good as I think it ll be. Had the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner. The rice was what I can only say was horrid. Wet, funny mess & just peas & carrots in it. Yuck! Chicken Souvlaki was so-so., not particularly tasty. At least the Greek salad was fabulous. I could of just had that & left happy. Probably should of! Our server seemed a bit off & kept making mistakes, maybe his 1st night? 1 person ordered ribs, they came with chicken wings he didn t order. 1 ordered chicken Parmesan, I ve never seen it layered with cheddar cheese before, not a great idea & very over cooked. Waiter brought 4 small plates with 3 forks, 2 knives & 2 serviettes. There were 3 of us & all needed knives & serviettes, & for ribs seriously you need at least 2. Been twice, not really impressed. Would be a good sports bar to be at for game night, but it was a surprise to us when they pushed the volume way up half way through our dinner. If we go back it ll probably be at lunch time & see if that works out better.

The food price was reasonable. I ordered Sheppards pie. My friend ordered Rainbow Trout. Both were cooked well and delicious. Not bad at all. Service was ok. All the waitresses frequently huddled near the bar area. They should be walking around the dining area to see if we need anything. We were there to watch Happy Pants play live music. They were awesome. Will go again.

Dont go when its a holiday. The server will pass you over for a larger table. Taking half finished drinks when you werent ready. Messing up your order and when you say something about it they tell you just deal with it the kitchen is busy. Pretty sure they gave me fries instead of sweet potato fries and still charged the extra for the sweet potato fries... We went during St Patricks Day. It wasnt a good time... I didnt want to tip but my company felt like we should just do the bare minimum due to society respect. Honestly I dont want to return.

Our server, was T, and she was amazing. We had a very large group, including 2 young and rambunctious children. She was incredibly patient, and wonder. The food was pretty damn good, and the price was reasonable. Would definitely be going back!

Usually order from Uber eats and the food is pretty good. Decided to go into the restaurant and it was 10pm, online says they are open until 11pm. Honestly wouldn t be as upset if the server Liz was nicer, we walk in and she gives lots of attitude saying we re closed and we asked I thought you close at 11pm since that s what it s say on google and she keeps repeating we re closed, rather then apologizing and saying sorry for the misunderstanding. I get it s late at night but if you work in the customer service industry you should be nice to people coming in asking a simple question. Definitely won t every try coming into this restaurant again especially not with Liz, she needs to get some manners!

Came here for the first time and was absolutely amazed! Ordered the fettuccine chicken Alfredo. It was amazing. The staff were really nice and friendly. They also had a great live band.

He was so friendly and funny, I would go back just to see him again! Drinks were great, strongly suggest the mudslide! Never have I seen it a bar continuously run out of draft beer so often. If it wasnt the popular brands I would understand. They do have 12 jugs of hot sauce though. Wrong priorities.

If you love a good sandwich, this spot has an unbelievable beef dip sandwich. Kind of other worldly. Cant recommend hard enough.

Decided to go out for Thanksgiving dinner with my daughter. This evening we saw their Thanksgiving menu on their social page. We were there at 5 PM we ordered butternut squash soup to start , which was served not even warm and one other appetizer. When we were about ready to order our Thanksgiving dinner, the server informed us that they were all out of Turkey, all we got was a sorry. Thank you, castle johns for making this thanksgiving dinner a memorable one .... we wont be back

My boyfriend and I love coming here, it s super close to us with great service, so it s perfect! Food is great and the staff is even better! Liz and Danielle are seriously amazing!! Lovee love love them. The ONLY thing I can complain about is the TV situation the large bar TV has been broken since before football season started we love coming in for the football games but if we can t watch properly we have to go somewhere else, which we d rather come here!!!

One of the best an absolutely delicious hamburgers. I have eaten in my entire life delicious flavorful, well seasons I forget the name of the hamburger that I got, but it was bacon with jalapeño fries were crispy. Service was good. The gentleman was attentive. The only complaint I have were the seats sitting in the booth I felt I was always sitting at a 90° angle and not a lot of room. Other than that atmosphere was a good and the bar look like a good place to watch a game

The food is good with a lot of variety. It is not a high-class restaurant, but it is good if you like watching sports while eating, or playing darts or pool.

I ve eaten here many times and the food and service are always outstanding. Last night we had almost 60 women for a Holiday dinner and the wait staff (Shenna and Dax) outdid themselves! They were friendly and fast getting all the meals out. The meals were hot and delicious - so kudos to the kitchen staff as well for handling that many appetizers and mains in such an efficient manner and still maintaining great quality! Even every steak was cooked to perfection the way each person wanted! Definitely recommend

Last night I held our annual Holiday Dinner & Newmarket Food Pantry Non-Perishable & Money Drive for the Ladies Supper Club (group on Facebook) where 60 ladies attended. Love the food! The Place holds a large gathering that does not interfere with the sports bar crowd. Shenna Reefer-english, and Dax were our servers for a crowd of 60 women. They were friendly and attentive and fast. (Bathroom need attention) yuk Food

We went with a group of 12 women. Many of us ordered 2 starters (30% off on Wednesday) and Autumn and kitchen staff did an excellent job bringing all our food at the same time. And dont forget to order their house made carrot cheesecake! Delicious.

Cajun Steak Pasta is dee-lish!

Last night was our 2nd time getting food from Castle Johns and once again it was excellent. From the timing when I picked it up to how good the food was even with sitting on the drive home using takeout. Possibly the best part was our server Kamisha. She was absolutely amazing and would be a big reason we will return again.

omg they have very yummy ribs and wings!!!!! and the beer on tap is crisp. amazing flavours for the ribs/wings!!!! i would highly recommend this pub to many locals of newmarket if they dont know. and one last thing, they have a very patio setting in the front. 10 stars for castle johns

Excellent food, good size portions. Friendly service, a bit understaffed but forgiveable as Covid restrictions just lifted.

We have been loyal customers since they opened but just ordered our usual 3 stir frys and they were terrible so I called the restaurant and spoke to a server and explained that the rice was wet the veggies were not cook. The server said there is nothing she could do and I should contact door dash. I said door dash didnt make the food and again said there was nothing the store will do. I asked for replacement food and she declined. Castle Johns has just lost a loyal regular customer. Not impressed on Rourke Place, Newmarket

I just wanna say thumbs up to Misha i ur her up for a challenge tonight with some new drinks and she did it with no questions she is super friendly super efficient and was very tentative to my needs for both my allergy to parsley and the yummy beet and goat cheese salad that I also ordered I will definitely be back! Thursday Wing and chip special is amazing. Large portions. Delicious wings. Fresh fries. The other plate is lobster pasta. To die for. Beers on tap are great/fresh/large glasses. Great service. Nice decor, TV screens look amazing and the pool tables are fun. Cant wait to return and try more food.

Used Skip the dishes for the first time with a pub for the first time. Should have known better. The driver-Amanda- dropped off wrong order-6 Cajun wings. I ordered the Chicken Parm Dinner. Driver said not her issue-so I gave her the wings saying I didnt pay $27 for 6 wings. I then called the Restaurant-they refused to re-make my order so I could go and pick it up even though I already paid for delivery. The girl who answered the phone checked with the manager and they said the issue is with Skip the dishes and I need to request a refund. And it took Skip the Dishes exactly 5 seconds to send me an email to say-no refund-too bad. So much for a dinner tonight!!!! To say I am utterly disappointed would be an understatement. But I have learned my lesson. Ended up ordering from Jack Astors as they have proved themselves worthy of my patronage-and their food is excellent.

I was at Castle John s yesterday for lunch with my family. I asked for the beer battered fish and chips. When it arrived I found that the batter on the fish was so hard I could have driven a 6 inch spike into a 6 X 6 inch of piece of hardwood with it. NOT a good place to eat.

What a great place, my wife and I went to Castle John s July 17th. We tried it because of the reviews on Google and every review was replied to. What a great upgrade from the last place that was there, clean, bright with lots of TV s. A full menu with lots of variety, I had a stir fry with chicken at $16, it was not disappointing, great meal and it came very hot. I would recommend if your looking for a sports bar restaurant. The only item I would recommend from another review is upgrade your beer selection, other than that definitely a place to come.

I ordered the beef dip sandwhich and BFF had the Reuben. Both were amazingly delicious. Portions are great too.

No one came to seat me. Had to leave without being fed. I was waiting for 15 minutes at 12:00. I ended up leaving, I wasn t the only one who left either.

I got the full rack of ribs and fish taco for take out and the ribs were the best I ve ever had! The bones fell right off the bone, and the fish tacos were super fresh and crispy!!!! I recommend castle John to anyone looking for high quality meal for a good price!

I was afraid to order beef dip again after ordering it on Uber eats at another restaurant in the same area but I craved it again and tried it at castle johns this time through uber again and had to say I enjoyed it a lot better then the last one. Near closing time the food was still fresh,crisp and tasty! Highly recommend this location! Sept 1st

Nice restaurant with open concept seating. Food was good. Despite our terrible service from the waitress, we will try this place again. Kid-friendliness: My daughter tried the mac and cheese and didnt like it so we ordered something else for her and they didnt charge us.

Came here for the first time with my boyfriend and overall it was a good experience and I would definitely come back. The only 2 suggestions that I have is to ensure that the appetizers are served before the main is served. My chicken wings were nice and saucy when they arrived to me, but unfortunately by the time I started eating them, they were as dry and hard as a rock, because I was eating the appetizer first. Additionally, it would be nice to have the option to turn off the TV at your table because its quite a distraction when youre trying to have a conversation with the people youre with. Otherwise, the poutine and perogies tastes really good.

I want to thank everyone at Castle Johns for making my 40th birthday a night to remember.. I want to thank Megan and Jessie especially for an OUTSTANDING job, they were on top of everything they didnt miss a beat.. They were so accommodating and made sure everything was perfect.. The owner was top notch and he made sure everything was perfect and on time when our guest arrived.. They were so quick in taking away empty plates and keeping tables of clutter.. The menu is huge. It s hard to choose something to eat. I had their French onion soup and fries. Both are great here. The best fries ever! Their like Costco fries. Unbeatable. Great servers and atmosphere for a date or with a group of friends.

Ordered from Skip the dishes. I ordered wings unbreaded, no sauce and no rub. Came with sauce on and were stone cold. I had to throw onion soup out it was so salty. I will never order from there again.

The fist time we ordered out from skip the Dishes from Castle Johns it was a good portion meals and they where very good . But the second time we ordered from there it was not a very big portion at all we where not impressed at all

Food felt like it was made an hour in advance, everything we ordered was soggy and wet. (Bruschetta, poutine, fish tacos, spinach dip) we order from Uber eats at least once a week and this was the worst experience I ve had ever. We literally threw out $60 worth of food. Portions were massive but it didn t matter since none of the food was edible. I have never left a bad review, but I felt like this time it was necessary because we need to make another dinner. All things considered, this was my experience with Uber eats, and dining in may be different.

This is a favourite place for us and the take out is great too. Food is fresh and presentation is great. My husband loves the chicken wings, I have always enjoyed the salads and stirfrys. Tastes just like homemade.

The food was good, but i was served main dish first, and salad and the soup after the main dish. Dont order apple blossom, it tasted stale and old.

This place is excellent for wings! I was thoroughly surprised by the size of them when served. You can get a minimum of 6 and a max of 15. Basically without drinks it s 12 bucks for 15 wings. Don t worry about the max limit, they are definitely enough. Lots of flavour choices too. Will be coming back on another wing night!
