Jarocho Mexican Cuisine in Newmarket

I ordered some nachos last night and the beans were automatically tasted like my mom beans back home, it was a great amount of everything on them! I ll definitely order those again, same with chicken flautas yummyyyy pozole I felt it need more flavour but there was not fat at all on it so I loved it! great job jarocho and kitchen team!

I have been there twice, before they started serving alcohol and recently. Loved the esquites, the pozole and the enchiladas, and my friends demolished the Tres Leches postre. Second time I went, I ordered a dirty margarita while waiting, could not have been better with the MX flag on the wall and Mexico Querido playing the background. Going again for sure! Bien provecho!

I had the opportunity to go with my husband, we are Mexican so here you can try the closest thing to authentic Mexican food. Not like other places that claim to be Mexican and are an offense. Everything here was delicious, the spicy sauces, the breakfast, the food, the fresh waters and the dessert, 100% recommended.

I liked it! Food was authentic and as a group of 4 we had different main dishes and a couple shareables and everyone was pleased. Cool wall paintings inside and I liked the background music. The margaritas were tasty too!! Interesting fact is they are open sometimes 24 hours and also serving breakfast which Ill have to try next.

Amazing!!! You want amazing did, this is where you need to be. Sick an intriguing interior, kind staff and if you didn t get it the first time, AMAZING FOOD.

Way too expensive! Not generous with portions. I was excited to try this restaurant despite its distance and higher-than-average prices, expecting generous portions to justify the cost. Unfortunately, the food didn t meet expectations. I ordered quesabirrias $16 for two portions but they were disappointingly small, with very little meat and cheese. While the flavor was decent, the portions and value were far from fair. I ve tried many Mexican restaurants, and this one it is for sure overpriced. I wouldn t recommend it for the price.

Delicious food, excellent service

Really wanted to like this place since it s local, but after giving it multiple chances I had to leave a review. The food is egregiously overpriced for the quality and portion size. The sides are laughably tiny servings. Not sure what the need is to skimp on cheap rice or beans. Chicken enchiladas and Tacos were extremely dry, tasting like they came out of a microwave. Seemingly every item is totally slathered in cheese. Not sure what exactly is authentic about cheap flavourless reheated food. The sauces and salsas were just nasty, and we re not picky at all when it comes to Mexican food.

First time visiting and Absolutely delicious! I wish I d taken a pic of my dish before devouring it. Authentic, Fresh, hot and well executed chicken enchilada with delicious green sauce and cheese. Exceptional! I ll be back for sure! A true hidden gem of Newmarket. Well worth it.

What a discovery! Saw this highly rated Mexican restaurant online in Newmarket and was blown away. The staff are all Mexican from the Veracruz area, including the chef. The food was unbelievable. We had the tacos, like I had never had before. Am thinking of driving up from Markham just to have lunch there. Definitely worth a visit and very reasonably priced.

My mom and I ordered quesadillas for takeout, and dare I say they were the best we ve ever had! Absolutely delicious. Will be coming back to try a dine in experience:)

Randomly came in tonight and was surprised on how good everything was! The Birria was amazing! Guacamole and Pico was fresh! Tortilla chips were hand made. The rice was next level tasty! Oh, and the selection of 3 hot sauces we were given were all amazing (especially the orange sauce). Service was very good, out server was so nice and offered to explain anything on the menu if we werent familiar with Mexican cuisine.

Uber prices should be illegal. Happened recently. Shame on both. Used to be $12 for biria tacos today $15. Since when do tacos cause such inflation. Worse inflation than fuel milk most groceries.

We were pretty disappointed in our take out. We got tacos dorados and the chicken was so dry. The mini side of guac was rather plain tasting too. Too bad we were really looking forward to some decent Mexican food in this town finally.

This place was everything I hoped it would be and more. Tacos were very big and delicious. Server was very nice and food came out quick! I have been visiting the restaurant for a while and I love it, but lately it takes them a long time to bring the food. I have returned some dishes because they dont taste good. I recommended the place to some friends and they also had a bad experience. The price is not cheap. I think they should offer a better price.

Lovely authentic Mexican dining experience. The food was the highlight. Appetizers were half off when we went in on a Thursday night. Plus, each table got a complimentary bowl of chips with 3 types of housemade sauces to begin the experience. Large serving sizes for the nachos and empanadas (they did not have ham nor fish options that available that day). We also got two types of tacos, chorizo and asada, which were sized well. Very good monetary value. They got their liquor license I keep reading about in prior reviews. The place is styled with wonderful murals on the walls. Bathrooms were very clean. The spanish music was a touch loud but was reduced in volume while another group and ours dined. It appears like they do lots of takeout, but also there are lots of places to sit if you come to dine in. The server was friendly, though they did not remove dishes we had completed nor actively refill our empty water glasses. Overall yummy experience that we would have again!

Food was very disappointing. The birria tasted like beef broth from a can (very awful for 22 dollars) lamb barbacoa was tasteless, serving was tiny.This place is a rip off. Not worth your money at all. One person in the kitchen and didn t hear a single sizzle. I m pretty sure the food was just being microwaved. Go to La Mexicanada instead.

We tried Jarocho for dinner tonight and had a delicious meal experience! The food was so flavourful and the service was amazing! The asada tacos are absolutely delicious and while I assumed 2 wouldn t be enough food, it was just the right amount (you can double or triple your order as you please). We will definitely be back. If you re looking for authentic Mexican food close to home, I d highly recommend supporting this local business!

I am Mexican and from Veracruz and we really liked the food, it is very tasty. It was my first time trying the great memela and I really liked it the Aztec soup not to mention . We ordered two cheese empanadas and one cheese and ham empanadas for my 5 year old son and he liked them too. The desserts and shells are super tasty too. The dishes are super well served, worth what you pay. The service is excellent, the kitchen needs to work a little faster, but there is no problem if the dishes are made on time. Another recommendation is that they need to sell fresh waters such as tamarind, Jamaica and horchata. The only thing I didnt like were the chopped ones, they are too perfect and I thought they were bought and frozen, they dont look chopped or pinched, thats not that much of a problem, but the red sauce didnt taste like the traditional red sauce that is used for enchiladas and/or picaditas. It tasted a little like canned tomato sauce, the sauce of the chopped ones, it should only be with pure tomato and chili, because as a Veracruzana I can perceive the flavor of canned tomato sauce and that is not cool. My husband, who is also from Veracruz, said that if he liked them, they are passable. But to me more or less, they need to improve that, please. I am Mexican and from Veracruz and the truth is that we really liked the food, it is very tasty. QuesaBirria and carnita tacos were our favourite. But the birria is sooo good served with a really delicious consume. Carnitas topped aorh pineapple to cut the pork is a nice balance. Interior is not the best but I honestly don t care the food is so good!

Food is unfavorful, not like other Mexican restaurants Im used to. The wait for the food was far too long. I was given chips but no salsa. Food prices are very high. 2 small tacos for $16, with a bit of meat, onion and cilantro.

True Mexican experience in Newmarket, Ontario! The food is well prepared and presented, and DELICIOUS! The waiter is very gentle, friendly, spending time with us like we are guests at his home. This was the first time we have ordered from Jarocho. Everything was amazing. Susana provided some options to feed 6 people and we chose Parrillada. All I can say is wow ! The chicken, the shrimps, the pastor, asada, chorizo, everything was delicious. I highly recommend it. Please give it a try!

I havent had Al Pastor this good since I used to live in Columbus Ohio at a place called Los Gauchos... Fantastic Al Pastor marinated crispy bits of pork with the sweet contrast of the pineapple and freshness of the onions and cilantro then the beautiful salsas you make to go into is to die for! This is hands down some of the best if not the best Al Pastor in greater Toronto that Ive tried so far! :D This is a Newmarket Hidden Gem. No way around it. People, try the Al Pastor here then tell your friends! I want this place to exist forever

We went here for dinner and surprise to see a live band playing mexican songs. The place is so lively, my kiddoes loves it! We ordered the lamb barbacoa, birria, shrimp with coconut sauce, special ordered fish tacos and flan for dessert. We love everything! Forgot to mention they give you free nacho chips and dips as a starter. Been to Mexico before and i can say this place feels very authentic. One Mexican friend said he comes here every Sunday morning for breakfast and he lives 30 mins far. Hope more people support this restaurant, it s definitely a Newmarket gem!

Tried this place for dinner last night and we were very happy. The food was delicious and great service. Portions are very large. Tasty sauces. They even have a kids menu which is elevated - one of my daughters got grilled cheese and it s not just two Kraft singles between toasted bread like other places it was made with real cheese and large pieces of bread. Options for everyone. The only thing that may be tricky is most of their seating is on barstool height chairs so those with kids or mobility issues may be limited if the regular tables are full. I was initially worried it would be difficult for my kids ( 3 and 6) but they were able to sit just fine. The bathrooms were also very clean which is a plus. Would suggest a step stool in there for little kids to reach. There was ample parking. I don t believe they have their liquor licence yet but that wasn t an issue. I think when it does come in they can maximize on that for certain with frozen margaritas. Atmosphere was calm with nice artwork on the walls. They re open for breakfast lunch and dinner. We will be back for sure!

If youve been craving an escape to Mexico but cant quite justify the plane ticket, I have just the place for you. Jarocho Mexican Cuisine. Stepping into Jarocho was like crossing the border into Veracruz itself. The decor is a dazzling display of hand-painted motifs and colourful walls that scream Viva Mexico! High-seat chairs and traditional Mexican music set the scene for a dining experience thats as warm and inviting as a Mexican abuelas hug. Now, lets taco bout the food! I ordered the Green Sauce (Tomatillo) Enchiladas, which were so damn good, they could make a mariachi band weep. Each bite was a harmonious blend of authentic spices and fresh ingredients, perfectly portioned to leave you satisfied but not stuffed. My daughter, on the other hand, dove into the tacos like a true aficionado. They were, in her words, to die for! But hold your maracas; the real stars of the show were the churros and flan cake. The churros were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and dusted with just the right amount of cinnamon sugar a dessert fit for the gods. The flan cake, made in-house that very day, was a creamy, dreamy delight that left every other flan Ive ever had in the dust. And lets not forget the Beef Birria! Picture this: tender beef lovingly swaddled in a rich consommé broth with chilis and spices, served with warm tortillas, onion, cilantro, and a gentle squeeze of lime. Its like a flavour fiesta in your mouth, and everyone s invited! At Jarocho, you get more than just a meal. You get an authentic Mexican experience thats worth every peso. The food may take a bit longer to arrive, but thats because its prepared from scratch. This is authentic Mexican cuisine, not some fast-food assembly line. Update - went back. Mixed feelings from below remedied. Much better service. Food very good. The Memelas Veracruzanas (A tortilla with black beans, hard boiled eggs, fried sweet plantains, chorizo, steak, avocado, sour cream and cheese) was excellent. With a party of four, one person s food came out first and the other entrees came out over 5 minutes later meaning the first entree was no longer warm. The other entrees came but the tortilla shells were not brought out for at least another 5 minutes and we thought that they were not part of the dish so we had already eaten an amount of two of the entrees. We put the toppings on the meat by itself. Ambiance was friendly. Music at a good volume. Bathroom and premises very clean.

What a grate breakfast! The whole family enjoyed. Definitely will be back.

The ingredients were not very fresh and the dishes were overpriced for the quality and quantity of food. They also were out of all the beef dishes when we were there. Suggestion to owners - reduce the gigantic menu and focus on doing a couple things well?

Great food and service! First time here, doing take out, thought the place was here for years but turns out they have only been open for a few months. While waiting for my takeout and they kindly offered me water and their nachos and dip. They also gave us samples of their three kinds of salsa to try. The food was very good, I really liked the memelas veracruzanas, it looked like a thin crust pizza that was overflowing with toppings.

I like the atmosphere of the place, you can talk comfortably and enjoy the music and decoration at the same time. The food is good portion for a fair price. The waiters are very helpful, overall you really enjoy being there.

Jarocho is an authentic Mexican restaurant with cuisine thats totally different to other Mexican restaurants. The food is very much like what you would get in a family dinner cooked by Mom and Grandma. There is no alcohol, the server said the liquor license was being processed. But I think its okay to not have alcohol actually it was refreshing with just pop or water to choose from. Super friendly nice staff! Kid-friendliness: Its a nice atmosphere for kids and there is a kids menu.

Started off with the Platanos Fritos (fried plantain with sour cream and shredded queso fresco. We had the Tampiquena Beef Steak and the Manilla (shredded fish served with refried beans and tortillas). Unfortunately, they didn t bring the dish with the refried beans but honestly it was tasty it didn t need the beans. The appetizer snd main dinner courses were all so flavourful and tasted amazing. This is our new go-to hidden gem. I finally found authentic Mexican food. And to add to our experience, our server was also very pleasant.

Authentic Mexican food! Delicious. I asked the server for suggestions and she was spot on. We all enjoyed dinner and I got a few Mexican pastries to go yummm. So happy to have a place like this in Newmarket.

Superb authentic Mexican food. I helped my brother build a Mexican restaurant in Halifax when I was 20. I know good authentic Mexican food. This is far above anything I have had in Ontario so far.

It s cute, service was great. We were helped with figuring out some unfamiliar menu items. We all got different tacos and they all ruled. I tried the lengua (beef tongue) and that was gooooood! 10/10 gonna go next time I m in the area. I love the vibe in there, can t wait to go back!

Amazing flavours! The complementary chips and dips were soooo good. The eggs were perfectly looked. The beans were perfectly seasoned. We also got a concha, tres leches cake, and chorizo pastry to go. Would 100% come back to try other menu items. One thing that I wouldnt get again would be the fried pork - it was kind of bland on its own and the texture swinged from very dry or very oily. However I havent had such a dish before so maybe its just how its supposed to be like.

The pastry was delicious on the Empanadas takeout. The different salsa choices were so tasty. I had the breakfast...scrambled eggs and lots of bacon with mini tortilla shells. Yum! Also enjoyed a ginger and lime tea. Did not feel rushed! Will be back!

Nice authentic Mexican restaurant! We went for dinner and got the beef birria and the fish (Veracruz style). Both dishes were delicious, although the portion sizes were a bit small for what we were paying for. The consommé for the beef birria was rich, and the fish was light and flaky. They had a Mariachi band playing while we were there which added to the overall ambience.

What a lovely place. This used to be a Thai restaurant that had seen better days. Well... The new Mexican owners had transformed it into a piece of Mexico! I came here for lunch with my husband and its was a great experience. Being Mexican myself, I must say that the food is authentic and delicious! I am so proud to see fellow Mexicans succeed as I know it is not easy to immigrate and start a business. The food is delicious, I had a sopa Azteca (tortilla soup), a memela (huge corn tortilla layered with beef, cheese, lettuce, plantain and a bit of heaven!) The beef was a bit overcooked and dry but it was good, the tacos de lengua (tongue tacos) were really good (a bit pricey for only two) but there were quite tasty. They have changed there place and the atmosphere is quite nice, loved the mural! The washrooms are clean and the restaurant itself is nice. One of the jewels of this place is the bread. They do have their own baker and he bakes authentic sweet and savory breads daily! I would recommend some Mexican music in the background to make it nicer. The price was quite reasonable. The owners were there checking in and quite friendly with the customers. Come to get a piece of the traditional coastal flavours of Veracruz and the amazing Mexican food. Felicidades paisanos! Had cravings for Mexican food - decided to try this spot, somewhat new, located inside an industrial area so it s not very visible if you pass by, but the gamble paid off! Food was AMAZING, their chips are fresh and hot sauces are addictive. Had their Veracruz style pizza like, and their beef dish. Too big to finish to be quite honest - real good value and amazing cilantro/salsa flavours. Their service is EXCELLENTE! Their staff gave us two of their baked goods for free (a HUGE Donut and some sort of sweet bread). What a great gesture! I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner by chance - just by what he did I can tell you he is a very humble person. He ate at the restaurant but he also proceeded to pay for his meal just like any other patron. What a great gesture - a reminder to never take anything for granted in life. They also have a live music band every Friday 7-9 (violin, harp and a singer) they also gave me a keychain literally for no reason!!! What a way to end the work week. Glad to have found this spot and can t wait to return.
