La gabbia Grill&Bar in Newmarket

I had an absolutely horrendous experience at La Gabbia the other night. I was simply asking a clarifying question about the bill, and who I believe was the bar manager, accosted me. She accused me of having a problem and of yelling at the server when all I had done is ask a question. The entire table was shocked by her behaviour. When I explained that we had a question about the bill and were only looking for clarification, she admitted that her behaviour was inappropriate. I left feeling distraught and appalled. This is no way to treat customers. Id never go back. Spend your hard earned money at any of the other Newmarket pubs where you will at least be treated with minimum human decency. *Note: I called La Gabbia several times and left messages with a manager asking for the owner to call me about this incident. I didnt receive a call back.

This wasn t my first visit to La Gabbia but it will be my last. Made a reservation to ensure we could have a nice family meal. All members of our party (7 persons) were seated within 5 minutes of the reservation time and the server took our order in a prompt manner and we were served our drinks. Unfortunately that s where the good experience ended. The restaurant seemed busy, but not overly busy. Over 30 minutes since our order was taken we didn t have our food. The server came around to ask if we wanted drink refills - some of us obliged. More time went by and several tables that had arrived after us, had started getting their food and some even finishing their meals and still we were without our food. An hour since we sat down and still no food. The server commented that our food would be out shortly . Another 30 mins later, a full 90 minutes since we sat down, still no food. We asked again and were initially told that our food should be out soon. We questioned this and a manager or more senior staff member (not sure which) explained that it was the servers first day and that the order never made it to the kitchen and they would only now be starting on our order. This was over 90 minutes since we sat down at 19:30. A reservation made for 19:30 and the kitchen would only be starting our food at 21:15. That excuse was unacceptable and frankly I don t even think it was honest. The server did not behave like someone s first day in a job and no restaurant puts a new employee to work unsupervised on a busy Friday night. It s incredulous that at no point did the server actually check the status of our order and instead just said it would be out soon or shortly . We were discounted a measly 25% for the few drinks we did consume while waiting over 90 minutes. We did not stay and wait longer and left without eating. Overall the entire situation was handled terribly from the staff at La Gabbia and there seemed to be very little accountability or apologising from the staff. It s not the first time I ve experienced poor service but I gave the first experience a pass. My mistake. Won t be happening again because I won t be visiting La Gabbia again. Plenty more great restaurants on and around Main Street Newmarket.

My family and I had a wonderful experience at La Gabbia last night. The food and appetizers were delicious, and the live music was fantastic; we enjoyed it very much. Our server, Morvarid, was amazing kind and friendly, ensuring we received excellent service. I highly recommend this place

Ive been here twice and found the food very average, like frozen food that was thawed in the microwave. Was there last year, but I will try it one more time this weekend.

Overall atmosphere was good - wait staff was nice. However, we got garlic bread as our app for $14 it was 1 small piece of burnt baguette cut in 4 with cracker barrel cheese softened on top. Incredibly disappointing

Lagabbia never disappoints. I have been here several times. Food is always delicious. Generous portion, reasonable price and very tasty. The Salmon is the best in town. Service is fast, polite, and very friendly. The vibe is so vibrant with a great band.

We made a reservation for lunch, it was a wonderful experience. Everything was excellent there. Main st has a lot of great restaurant and pub, but Lagabbia is the best on Main st. Went there tonight for the first time. Sat at the bar and waited as the server was busy on her phone. Had to ask her for a beer. They had just changed the tap and the beer was running down the glass. Has to ask her to wipe it. Sat at our table was there i er one hour before the server even asked us if we wanted food. Food took forever! Ordered my second beer. Waited over 20 min The only reason i got my beer one of my friends new the waitress who just started and she got the drink. The food was good. Fries were cold. Not impressed at all

I visit with clients from time to time. But this past weekend, i was there with my wife and 3 other couples for her birthday. we all ordered different meals and not one person at my table had a negative review. from our apps to mains, drinks and staff and service this place is amazing. the chef did an amazing job on our steaks and lamb. also everything was served quick and hot. It was my first time taking my wife there but now she wants to go there more often and i dont live that close keep u the great work

I liked the burger and Nacho. The option of adding cessear salad beside the burger is perfect and I recommend it. but I couldnt find the beer that I liked. They didnt have any sour beer. I prefer the music to start sooner than 9 PM. I liked the music too. Staffs were lovely.

What a horrible visit! The food and the owner were terrible. He completely disregarded concerns of the mozzarella cheese that tasted like chemicals and soap and grey colour on chicken and my friend got the wrong order. For context she ordered spicy garparm wings and I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich. When he asked us the issue we explained everything and this man proceeded to argue with me asking if I ve ever had fresh mozzarella and what brands have I tried. Assuring me that Canadian fresh mozzarella is supposed to taste like soapy chemicals. (It is not mozzarella has little to no flavour.) He couldn t look me in the eyes while speaking. I brought up how my chicken was grey (which is a sign that it has begun to spoil) and how the breading was especially grey on one side. He rolled his eyes at me. Then he argued with my friend about her chicken telling her it is supposed to be dry and spicy garparm is supposed to taste like mayo and nothing else. He condescendingly asked us if we ve ever seen chicken before and walked away without any resolution. He did not even once apologize or offer to remake the dishes. I m very disappointed, disgusted and appalled. As someone who works in the service industry I ve never seen this kind of disrespect and behaviour, especially from an owner. I cannot believe this is how he conducts his business. I will say that all the servers are great and I ve come here often and spent a lot of money here so I m very saddened by the way the owner behaved.

fettuccine alfredo was absolutely disgusting. parm was straight out of the pre grated processed kraft plastic can that you buy off the shelf at a grocery store. not worth 22.

This was our second time eating at La gabbia; the food was delicious and the service was excellent! The only complaint was that I suppose Friday nights it converts to a bar format. As we were sat at our table eating, crowds of people standing and drinking were pressed up against us. Prior to that the atmosphere was really nice and the live band were very good

The place has that quaint, intimate feeling of an old downtown restaurant bar. The food is great, drinks are well-prepared and served. And the service staff is professional and welcoming. One of my favourite places around.

Great location. Very welcoming servers. Cute pub. The food was really tasty. We had the jalapeño burger with poutine and the Buffalo chicken burger. The bacon was a bit dry but no big deal because both buns were awesome! Also, the poutine was the star with its incredible cheese pull. Very satisfied. A little pricey! Happy we stopped in!

This was the worst experience I have ever had in my 65 years. Wait staff was great, food was mediocre But we we were hastily removed because they didn t have space for us after spending thousands of dollars there. Not because of bad behaviour but simply to replace seats. First and last time there for 25 potential customers. Really stupid business decision. Will return to the George or the Old Village Free house. Thanks for exposing the true lack of customer experience. We will wait for new owners. Too bad for the hard working staff.

It is a small bar on Main Street Newmarket, but the food is amazing. Its not your typical bar food. Its my new go-to place. The service was first class. Please go try it out. You wont regret it.

Vegetarian options: Some good vegetarian options are available, Parking: There is plenty of parking available down the hill by Riverwalk Commons, a minute walk away from the restaurant.

This was our visit. The service was great. No complaints. The appetizer we chose was not great. The mains were ok. The mixed drinks were absolutely dreadful. Live band was good.

Would not recommend to come for the food. Its a nice place with a great atmosphere and lovely servers. But the food took 1hr to come and it was meh. We made reservations for 7pm, ordered food around 7:20 and got everyones dishes by 8:30 (dishes were not served at the same time). We ordered a pizza (cardboard), burger (overcooked and charred), and a chicken sandwich (chicken was good actually). I found the drinks were really watered down. We got two sangrias and a whiskey sour (way too much sour - no one likes that much sour). Those were the drinks we nurse for an hour while waiting for our food.

Mmmmm. The meat was melted in my mouth. With a cold beer, it was a celebration of the test. The disg size (ribs) was enough for two. Just added two beer.

A surprisingly terrible experience. We came in just after 2 o clock on Sunday and were seated right away. We ordered two mains and an app, asking to bring the app first. After waiting for at least 40 minutes, I told the waitress that we couldn t wait any longer and are leaving. The waitress was clearly uncomfortable and tried to assure us that the food was almost ready. (Maybe that was true.) But our experience was already ruined. The chef came out and tried to explain to us that the reason why it s taking so long is because the food is made from scratch. In her mind, it was reasonable for us to wait this long. We were the only table. So a far more likely explanation to me is that our order was simply not started on time. Nevertheless, the chef insisted that we pay the full price! I never had to wait for a burger for 40+ minutes! Whether that burger was worth the wait, I guess I ll never know. I never had to wait for an app for 40+ minutes. The fact that the chef thought it appropriate to insist on full payment is appalling! Very disrespectful. I can honestly say: I ve never had such a terrible experience.

I brought my son to this establishment after he spent weeks in the hospital. This was the worse experience I have ever had at a restaurant. The owner is rude, disrespectful and certainly has no customer experience skills. The food took over 1.5 hours to get to our table. There was no apology. The portions are very small for the price. JOIA is my my preferred choice. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT.

My wife said it would embarrass her if I asked for more food on my plate so I didn t. I finished my 26$ seafood linguini in probably five or six bites and walked my empty plate to the bar within 2 minutes of receiving it. Never in my life have I ever went somewhere for dinner, finish my dinner, and then go somewhere else and order dinner again. On a more positive note it s a great location, the service was great. It s very nice on the patio by Main Street. My two cents is that if you plan on serving a kids portion to a grown man at least present it with a piece of bread or something. I don t review places but my wife didn t let me say something while I was there so I had to write it down here.

I was very excited to go for my birthday, but the food took forever! The waitress was quite rude and didn t seem to pay attention to the needs of customers to any extent, quite disappointing.

We went here after our wedding to continue the party. The food was great. The staff was very friendly and nice. The only reason I have given atmosphere 2 stars is because the women in our group were creeped out by a man who was constantly staring and made them uncomfortable. We left and he even followed us outside.

Went last night to celebrate a birthday. Live music was fantastic! Vibe was more of a pub than a restaurant vibe. Food was mediocre at best, with small portions,fairly pricey for what you got and passable flavour. I would definitely come back for a drink and live music but will skip on the food based on what I sampled last night

La gabbia provides a safe enjoyable environment, bringing back a slight sense of normality during uncertain circumstances. In doesnt hurt that the food is amazing and the staff are very friendly and always full of energy. Definitely 5 stars!

I don t even know where to start from. We ordered 3 Sangria and 1 Beer. Not only took them 30 min to bring but also no water or anything. Sangria tasted anything but sangria and not sure if there was any alcohol in it. For food, we ordered burger, wings and steak. steak was burned from both sides, the burger was the worst burger ever with no taste to it and wings we asked tossed, instead it came on side and very dried. The grand finally was the bill that took them another 20 min to bring, not to mention that we were the only table. Definitely worst experience ever and no need to say never again.

Third time trying this place and had a great experience. Staff were wonderful, food was off the charts, place is very clean. My friend was quite surprised and complimented the food. Bring a friends and try this place.

Maybe we came on a bad day, but the service was really slow, and the food was sub-par. I m pretty sure their garlic bread is the same as the pre-packaged ones from Costco. The penne Alfredo was kind of oily, the greek salad tasted like a ready made salad from a grocery store, and there weren t that many fries alongside the burger. The food wasn t necessarily bad, just not really worth the price point. For the money spent, I would rather go someplace else.
