209 Queen St, Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON L0S 1J0, Canada
Located in the old parlour of a beautifully restored 1832 manor house, the HobNob Restaurant & Wine Bar brims with historical elegance. Adorned by a sparkling crystal chandelier, carved wooden doors, a stately fireplace and original oil paintings, the restaurant promises laid-back yet exquisite indulgence. Whether you’re enjoying a leisurely breakfast after a stay at The Charles Hotel, an afternoon lunch or a multi-course dinner, discover classic dishes prepared using the best ingredients and designed to pair perfectly with Niagara’s finest wines.
Really friendly staff and very nice atmosphere, however the food was significantly overpriced and is not worth it. Our $40 charcuterie board had dollar store crackers on it and was sad. Oysters were not served on ice and were room temp. Shrimp was greasy like the frying oil wasn’t hot enough. Their food offerings have been reduced to some weak menu items. I do not recommend for the price you will pay. I think they need to reconsider the experience they are offering and the price they’re charging their guests. My girlfriend and I paid over $200 to eat here and it just simply wasn’t worth it.
Food was very low quality for fine dining. I had the lamb and it was awful. Not braised and certainly not fall off the bone. Our whole group had similar experiences with low quality. The desert and coffee are also bad. Service was slow, and the hostess was reading a book, and seemed bothered when we arrived. The place is very nice as far as the atmosphere. Spend your money with other restaurants nearby that would be happy to have you.
Went for a simple lunch. The food was good (soup, tacos, mussels). Service was great (Anna was awesome 👍), and the atmosphere was nice. Overall, I highly recommend it.
amazing overall experience. our waitress was so kind and helpful. my elderflower gin and tonic was not too sweet but just right. the starter of oysters were cold and fresh with the perfect pairs to with it. my main of trout was awesome. very interesting with the sides being overly seasoned and the fish being not seasoned but it was still good! the gnocchi was awesome and saucy and the cashews on top worked well. for my birthday we got a free choice of deserts and i got the carrot cheesecake which was absolutely amazing and i would reccomend it to everyone! awesome experience being here, i would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting NOTL
Lamb shank - incredible meat, comes with croutons/bread which wasn’t 10/10. Beef - very good, potatoes were hashed-style, and they were to die for. Lots of veggies provided. Pear and goji salad - very tasty, nutty, and perfectly sweet. Atmosphere - very antiquated. Not the best vibe unless you are going for something historic. Service - terrific. Very handsome and polite waiter.
An amazing fine dining experience! We made reservations but arrived early after seeing a show at the shaw. They sat us early with no hesitation and gave us time to enjoy a cocktail before bringing over menus. Our party of five chose to do their six course tasting menu, which we were delighted to hear could be accommodated for gluten free for our parents. Each course was delicious, highlighting local ingredients (including honey from the pastry chefs own bees!), and was a true leisurely fine dining experience. Service was excellent; Anna, Jack, and Penelope were attentive and gracious. Their patio is a lovely place to dine.
We had a dinner at Hob Nob restaurant to celebrate my birthday. The most delicious dinner we’ve ever had! It wasn’t just food, it was an experience. My husband took 7 course menu and I’ve chose cob and oysters and wine! Highly recommend this place, definitely want to come back. Thank you for the whole team!
We had dinner here to celebrate our anniversary. It was a last minute decision but we were blown away. The ambiance was lovely, we were seated by the fireplace. The service was top notch. The appetizers and mains were delicious. We will definitely recommend this spot!
Beautiful atmosphere, friendly and professional service, afternoon tea was out of this world!
This was singlehandedly the worst fine dining experience I have had in my 43 years on this earth. To say this is even fine dining would be to disgrace all of the other fine establishments along queen street and Niagara on the lake. We were a larger party and were split into two tables with supposedly two waiters who were going to take care of us. We ordered drinks and then mains. It took 55 minutes for the mains to come out and they all came at different points, not at the same time ( first mistake ). Most of us ordered the braised lamb. Note the word braised. It should be tender enough to fall off the bone with a fork. The meat should be juicy and rich, with a thick, flavorful sauce. This lamb , however was tough and gamey. It was accompanied by a panzanella salad which consisted of 85 percent croutons ,a sprinkling of some miserable root vegetables and a few slimy pieces of arugula. A disgraceful showing for a 55$ entree. The server at our table was much more attentive then the guy with the bow tie and glasses ( forget his name but if I remembered he would be outed, because he actually deserves to be outed... Explanation to follow. Anyways, we were committed to this catastrophies so why not get dessert right ??? Right??? The dessert I chose was the fudge sundae. the pathetic way it was presented and the way it tasted could only be described as below the standard of the dessert of what you would receive at Dennys. For 15$ you should be getting presentation and taste quality for the level of restaurant they purport to be. The double espresso was equally inept. It came luke warm and watery. All for 8$. Now on to the second waiter with bow tie. He didnt even bother to show up to our second table, but did manage to give us his full attention only when it came time to pay the bills... 2 and a half hours later. Someone who works in a fine dining establishment should take pride in their job , especially when they are serving other and especially so that they can earn a generous tip ( which we would have given if he had slightly given a damn). If he had put the energy into serving us the way he was trying to figure out whose bill was connected to which family, he would have given us a better experience and gotten a bigger tip. Instead he resorted to mediocrity and did the bare minimum. And thats what youll get at Hob Nob. Pathetic service , disastrous food (presentation , taste and quality) as well as a horrendous dining experience. So the take away is this: there is no reason anyone should ever go to this place for a fine dining experience unless you want to get totally ripped off and go away angered by the fact that somehow you ou spent 250$ for two and received an experience that is well below even that of restaurants of average quality. Places like Epicurian and Bistro 66 along the strip are miles better than this place and they dont purport to be fine dining establishments. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this tourist trap and go to Treadwell across the way.
A lovely meal with family. Great service and good food. Also, the wine list included options from local producers.
Love the ambiance, the staff and food, thank you for the experience
Stafff are polite, restaurant is clean, and good food experience.
We had a wonderful dinner last night at the Hob Nob restaurant, located in the charming Charles Inn. The food & service was excellent, the restaurant is in an old, beautiful building with high ceilings and detailed mouldings. The main courses were very good, the dessert was a brownie with ice cream that was perfect for sharing,we enjoyed it and will return again..
I recently had my lunch at the Hob Nob and was beyond impressed with my entire experience. There are several unique items on the menu to choose from and they are also creatively arranged. Our meal was delicious and our server attentive and kind . The ole town ambience of this restaurant added to the entire experience. I highly recommend you try the Hob Nob
My favorite restaurant ever. My favorite human introduced me to this place tonight...i was amaze by the beautiful homy place, excellent service, great food.....wow
Very nice atmosphere and good service but the food was very underwhelming and overpriced.
Lovely atmosphere and pleasant service, however, the cocktails were subpar and the dishes were very underwhelming. The dish I had lacked an important flavour ingredient listed on the menu. What I will say that is great, is that the location, though still on the main drag, is a block or two away from the other shops and restaurants, so its not near as busy as the other eateries.
Our experience at this restaurant was awful from start to finish. When we arrived, three couples were already waiting at the front desk with no one in sight to seat us. Once seated, our server, who was working alone, assured us she wouldnt forget us, which should have been the first red flag. We ordered a wedge salad (vegetarian, no prosciutto), bread, mussels, and fish tacos (without kimchi). It took an hour for our server to come and update us on what was happening with our food and reassuring us that it was coming. The server, though sympathetic, kept bringing items like salt and pepper, ketchup, and empty bowls, but still no food. It took a total of an hour and a half for us to receive our meals. It was an utterly bizarre experience and the server said there was a chef changeover, which I can only assume meant our orders were never placed and forgotten, or it was one chef cooking for the entire (not busy) restaurant. When the food finally arrived, everything was wrong. The wedge salad ( a pathetic slice of iceberg lettuce that could be whipped up in 5 minutes) had both prosciutto and chicken, and the fish tacos came with kimchi. The mussels were subpar with far too many empty shells for the price point. The bread that was ordered to accompany the salad never made it to the table. Despite the servers apology and our entire meal being comped, the experience ruined our day, especially since I was showing guests around from out of country. Even with the free meal, the service was non existent, the food was below average, and I simply couldn t recommend this restaurant to anyone expecting timely service or proper dietary accommodations.
Service from the wait staff was very good but unfortunately the kitchen and management are letting them down. First impressions when entering the restaurant was poor. The entrance was filthy and needs a good cleaning. We sat at a window and the exterior of the window also needs cleaning. Food was underwhelming especially at the pricing. Soup was described as a a creamy black cod coconut soup. Not creamy at all no taste of coconut and very little cod and very little flavour. I ordered the sous vide salmon. It was overcooked and had not been seasoned and the skin and dark oily flesh was left on. Fine to leave the skin on if cooked and crisped. The best part of this dish was the rice and the sauce of which there wasnt enough. My partner had the filet and this was very good even though it was an end piece not centre cut which at $60 I would expect. We were disappointed as its a wonderful location in a historic building.
Good experience in Niagra on the lake.
My wife and I went here for our 40th anniversary dinner. The food was prepared. Exactly 2 are liking. My wife had the fillet and I had the cod. James, our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable as well as friendly. They started us out with a nice glass of champagne and made everything extra special for us. We had a nice evening to sit out on the patio and enjoy the views. Only thing I can say on the negative side is the outside patio can use some attention as far as paint and some fixing up of some rotted wood. Overall a wonderful experience. We then went and had a couple drinks in the bar and watch the hockey game.
I went for breakfast on July 11 with 4 other girlfriends to celebrate a friends birthday. I was excited to go because I always want to try this place. I ordered French toast - when it came I asked for butter and the waitresses said what really butter on your French toast? I have never had anyone ask for butter. Well so I may be the first. When I ate into my French toast it tasted like garlic. So they obviously didn t use a separate frying pan as they must have fried onions and garlic for an omelet then put my French toast on top. Due to the butter comment I decided not to say anything. We waited a long long time before coffee was served. Won t go back for breakfast.
Four of us went for lunch on Sunday, July 14. It was too hot to eat outdoors and we were lead to a table in the enclosed porch with a lovely view of the outdoor patio and street. Our server, Anna, was friendly and very efficient and was able to explain any unique items on the menu. The variety of breads with dips was an excellent starter. Our meals were delicious, i.e. burger & fries, wedge salad with chicken, trout and a soup and chicken sandwich and wonderfully presented. We chose homemade ice cream, pistachio honey cheesecake and lemon tart for our desserts. All were amazing and beautifully plated. It was a wonderful experience and we will be back.
Just had breakfast so cannot comment on the main meals. Average but tasty.
Thank you Chef Seth and team for this enjoyable and flavourable journey. We tried the tasting menu and also the rack of lamb with the scallop and pork belly appetizer. Very well executed, one of the best weve ever tasted. Highly recommended.
Wine tour drop off placed in hallway overlooking construction and bush.
Had been disappointed in a previous lunch elsewhere in NOTL but had a gift card to use so took a chance on Hob Nob. Delighted with the welcoming service and indoor patio for lunch. Such a pretty place (a guest we met there agreed the food was good on all their visits and the accommodations were uniquely wonderful too). Anna gave perfect recommendations. The Brussels sprout starter was scrumptious hope it s on the menu when we return. The honey pistachio cheesecake was as delicious as its delicate floral plating. Attentive to detail, best mocktail we d ever had, too. Generous servings and very reasonable prices. What a happy surprise in such a tourist spot! Parking: Limited guest parking in the rear but ample metered street parking as it is on a very quiet end of the Main Street.
Came with my family to Celebrate My 23rd Anniversary, more than expected Atmosphere, my wife and kids loved it, the Young man serving Us Tanios Harb made the evening more special with his professional and polite attitude. I will visit this place again and will recommend it to my family and friends.
Thank you for making my Mother s Day so special!! We went for Mother s Day lunch and we had my 2.5 year old daughter with us - the restaurant set us up at a big table in a quiet spot and Caitlyn, our server, as well as the chef went above and beyond. They made her a little plate separately (she has a severe milk allergy) and even made her a fancy apple juice just like Mommy s . Not being shoved into a tiny corner made all the difference and we had a wonderful time. Thank you so so much!!
Nice small restaurant with different dining area options. We sat near the windows by the patio and it was a nice spot. The service and food were good.
Second time back Food is very good Once you finally get it Huge disappointment to have Appy cleared then wait 40 minutes for 2 entrees With 10 people in entire restaurant Not returning soon
Its nice
Wonderful breakfast at hobnob. Beautiful atmosphere and great service. The food was fantastic.
Fabulous dinner last night. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the tasting menu. Beautiful presentation, delicious food and lovely atmosphere. Can t ask for anything more!
We did the tasting menu that s served Friday and Saturday. Everything was great and a reasonable price for seven courses. Would definitely recommend.
Great service, excellent food, outstanding wine list. Music? Well, well touch on that. First off, do make a reservation. We lucked into a table, but I definitely wouldnt count on it. Its too good not to be popular. The kitchen isnt fooling around: everything from appetizers to mains was fresh, well prepared, and very nicely presented. Extra points for being flexible with dietary needs (low carb is simple, but chefs willingness to switch out starchy carbs with greens was verrryy much appreciated!). Sommelier made excellent recommendations for wine from an extensive and strong list of high quality local vineyards. Table service was everything you could hope for: knowledgeable, interested, attentive and available but discrete and respectful. This is the Holy Grail of first class service. And Hob Nob delivered. That brings us to the music, which was so out of place: easy-listening (think elevator music) in a first class restaurant like this? A little light jazz maybe. Ambient chill, maybe. But plink-planky piano covers of Nirvana or the Police. Please, no. Anything but that. Aside from that, we thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful setting, the perfectly wonderful food, the excellent service, and the outstanding wines.
Best breakfast and all of Niagara.
Great place to dine. Blueberry tea was lovely. I felt it was overpriced. The baguettes and bread and dips were delicious as well. I thought I would try the gnocchi dish. It was tasty but possibly a tiny bit too overcooked. All in all a great place to dine and I would definitely recommend it. Park wherever you find a spot and walk. It s not handicap accessible but I managed.
Walking into the old world charm of this restaurant is so special. Fresh red roses great you at each table. The food was superlative and the service was excellent. Definitely our favorite dining spot at Niagara-on-the-lake.
We had a wonderful dinner at HobNob tonight. Date night menu (Wednesday nights in March). Absolutely delicious! Duck Confit, Lentil Curry Soup, and a scrumptious Truffle Cake. Cant wait to go again.
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with dinner here and it was amazing. The service, the food, and the vibes were all 5*! Highly recommend the lamb shank!
Service 10 ! Atmosphere 10 Food not so hot Overpriced, bland, the risotto is inedible and should not be called risotto The soup is pizza sauce The scallops are undercooked The staff is wonderful though
Xmas day dinner was amazing, good selection, well prepared and presented. Staff was attentive and helpful, food came hot and delicious. A little pricey but it is NOTL so not surprising.
Have eaten here a few times before and the service and food were very good. This time there were a couple flops with dessert; first the lava cake was not warmed enough so the centre was hard, then they redid it, but burnt it and didnt give me new ice cream (mine had melted while waiting for the second try). In the end I sent the dessert back. Wait staff were apologetic. Otherwise dinner was very nice. The pickerel with squash risotto was delicious, as well as the lamb shank. Charcuterie and oysters were also very good, along with the wine pairings.
We had an amazing New Years Eve enjoying the tasting menu prepared by Chef Seth Labonte. The food and wine pairings were excellent as well as the service. We will definitely be back.
The food was delicious and well presented. Our server was not only attentive but also knowledgeable about the history of the inn. The atmosphere also contributed to an overall wonderful dining experience.
First time to visit this restaurant. Initial impressions were favourable however the experience went downhill quickly. Spilt drink, dropped cutlery, starter covered in pieces of rock salt. The meat course was good but the accompanying vegetables and couscous were overcooked and over salted Then , who serves strawberry ice cream with cheese cake. The only alternative accompaniment being sorbet That mediocre offering cost over $300! We enjoyed the wines Parking: Not applicable
We really enjoyed our dinner at the HOB NOB restaurant! We had a table by the fireplace, which we highly recommend in the winter. We will definitely visit again next time we are in the area! Parking: We appreciated that there was a free EV charger available.
It is getting a lot more overpriced based on the quality of the dishes on the menu. We were expecting a lot more complex dishes packed with more favors.
Lovely restaurant! Went for Christmas Eve dinner. Booked ahead of time and asked for a nice spot. Received a cozy table right by the fireplace. Had the four course meal. Nice variety of food. The squash soup was top notch. The foie gras was amazing. The main course with the turkey wasnt bad. The turkey was mostly dark meat and a different style then white meat turkey portions. The vegetables were yummy. The blueberry dessert was fantastic. Had a traditional martini with the meal and a green tea later on. All in all a lovely experience! Super cute and unique hotel too! Very pretty and the decorations were exquisite. Received a nice red rose upon leaving from a friendly hostess at the front.
One of the best meals we ve had in some time. We ve been here before and we re happy to see it s still great - maybe even better - post-pandemic. Our entrées were black cod and rack of lamb. Both were cooked perfectly, and most impressive everything else accompanying the proteins was delicious and also perfectly cooked. Very attentive and informative service, although there were some long-ish waits between courses, likely still struggling to be fully staffed after the pandemic. We still consider Hobnob the best fine dining restaurant in NOTL (and we ve been to a few )
Excellent food and service. I had the rack of lamb and the wife had fois gras and duck breast. Both are delicious.
I guess youre paying for the ambiance, the food is honestly pretty basic. In short its a classic / old school / outdated menu and for over $200 after tip for just two courses for two people a plate of relatively unseasoned and fairly bland food is disappointing. And they overcooked the prawns to rubber. My favourite part of what I ordered was the cylinder of scalloped potatoes because cheese is at least a flavour. The photos that people have uploaded with the restaurant being completely empty is exactly what we experienced. Its a gorgeous location and one that you can experience in unexpected privacy!
Beautiful space and classic food.
One of our absolute favourites when we are in NOTL. The food, the ambiance... the service... everything is always top notch. Until next time Hob Nob xo
Our waitress was EXCELLENT! The food choices were terriffic as there was an Easter fixed prix menu available as well as the regular lunch menu. Food was plentiful, delicious and well presented. The dining room was welcoming and formal, being in a heritage home-turned-inn on the main street.
Tried to have breakfast here yesterday. Sign on the window said open , menu out front listed the hours, no sign of anything amiss. Except the front door was just locked! Even tried calling, no answer. At least say if you re going to be closed unexpectedly.
Poor taste, limited menue, outdated restroom, average service, flies inthe dining room! Good Dessert but will I go back? No... Vegetarian options: Only one2
Really nice setting and friendly staff. Food wasn t great though. A little bland and very ordinary food
In all honesty the chef and bartender need updated training. The menu is stuck in the 90 s, flavourless, bland, and no creativity. The chicken supreme, and pork chop were under-seasoned, with the same flavourless clumpy sauce, and mashed potatoes were dry with little butter. The setting is beautiful, dining area and service were both nice as well, but that didn t make up for the lack of taste, and cocktails were not properly executed. We expected so much more.
Lovely atmosphere, great service and delicious, perfectly prepared food. We loved it.
Went on Sunday at 11:30am and hostess was very rude while talking to us and then went around the corner and we heard how she talked about us to the staff. They only had two other tables seated and treated us like we were an inconvenience. We decided to leave and give our money to a friendlier restaurant.
$120 for eggs benny side sausage fruit 3 mimosas service was great food was gross it s niagara on the lake you think that you would get a high end meal and not powdered hollandaise, soggy bread, raw bacon, dirty diner, potatoes I don t mind spending the money if the food is good
Everything was excellent and I look forward to going back.
Good food Vegetarian options: Good food Food : 5/5 |
I really wanted to love this place. I d seen it in previous trips. The food was very bland. I never salt my food but I did these lamb chops. Veggies and scallops the same. Lacked flavor. My girlfriend salted her food too. This is not a cheap restaurant $220 for 2. The food can t be bland. Service was very good and friendly. The patio is very nice.
Service unkind.
Located at Niagara on the Lakes and at the end of the main street near the golf course, it has a nice outdoor setting. Inside was quaint and cozy. Food was good and staff was friendly.
Setting is lovely. Service was excellent. But the food was mediocre at best
Breakfast was okay, service was absolutely amazing! Fair prices.
Food was delicious and the space is very peaceful and elegant. Only downside was the time it took for our food to come out (45 minutes). The staff were friendly but some friendly gesture (like a complementary side while we waited for our food) would have been a welcome gesture.
Excellent lamb!
Have been here for brunch and dinner. Average food at best, took wrong order for breakfast ... both times it took long for us to be attended and food to arrive... I mean we r from Toronto.. if ur charging pretty much fine dining prices ..atleast serve good coffee, above dinner grade food and get the order right. It an issue with this this whole region. Parking: There is parking at the back but its limited.
The service was excellent and friendly. Professional and knowledgeable staff. The flood was absolutely fantastic! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Tender fair portions. Incredible in every sense. The food and plating were very modern which was a pleasant surprise. When you walk in it looks like the house was original with 100 layers of sloppy paint. So it was a very pleasant surprise to find the food was actually up-to-date and the plating was modern and not something you would have seen back in the day with a puree rimmed around the plate. This brings me to my next point which is unfortunately where it lost a few marks for me personally. This place is very grungy looking by that I mean it is old worldly charming by it being very historical looking but being in there was somewhat depressing as the renovation upkeep was sloppy. Paints that was so thick it looks like they poured it out of the can, indescribably worn and dirty floors. One of the bathrooms was incredibly tight and dirty, the other bathroom was actually more spacious and clean. Other than me and my wife I think the average age of the rest of the diners were 70 plus which is not a bad thing but it is something to mention this is not a place for young couples. In terms of pricing as you might imagine from my praise on the food this is a more pricey place to eat but absolutely worth it and at the end of the day the main reason you go to a restaurant is for the food. Overall I can absolutely get by the old world semi dilapidated look of this place because the food is outstanding and I recommend it to anybody that has not tried it. Parking: Like all places on the main strip, parking sucks but there is lots of it.
We waited 45min for the most overcooked food I have ever had. My family felt sick afterwards and this ruined our trip out to Niagara-on-the-lake. Truly disappointed.
Loved our lunch ...beautiful & cozy feeling of Christmas already! Elizabeth was of great service! Will be back!
Absolutely incredible. I had the Rainbow Trout and my Wife had the Beef Tenderloin for dinner. Done to perfection. For breakfast we each had the Crab Eggs Benedict. Spot on!
Delicious crab eggs benedict. Such a lovely setting and friendly staff. Great hidden gem.
My wife and I enjoyed a terrific breakfast. Anna provided exceptional service.
Really great meal...table by gorgeous fireplace, service impeccable and we were not jammed into the seating like sardines as we found at another restaurant this weekend. I will return with excitement and cant wait for all of their outdoor seating to open up again too!!
We went to Hob Nob for our anniversary, the bread they gave us was very stale. There was 1 vegetarian option listed as chefs daily creation it was so salty it was completely inedible. Will not go back.
I love this ambience of this place, situated on the main floor of an old mansion, complete with the original hard wood floors/ high ceilings/fireplace and a romantic vibe. Has a beautiful wrap around patio facing the golf course (although they really should find a way to deaden the sound of the air conditioning unit which constantly turns on and off). The food is very good, service is excellent. Nice hotel too!
The best restaurant in down NOTL.
My husband and I celebrated our 43rd anniversary at the Hob Nob restaurant. Our dinner was delicious! Anna was our server and she made our experience so special Such a magical moment in time. Thank you! R and D
We had a wonderful 40th anniversary dinner at the Hob Nob! Our meals were absolutely delicious and our servers, James and Penelope were so attentive ... thank you! We will be back!
My girlfriend and I went to hobnob for my birthday and it was absolutely amazing. Our server Alexis was phenomenal, she was so friendly so caring and just made amazing conversation with us. We will definitely be returning on another weekend here in Niagara on the Lake.
The patio is gorgeous and its attached to the hotel and thats why its a rip off. They didnt have our reservation which is a shame because we specified it was our first wedding anniversary. The service was bare minimum; our water wasnt refilled even once and while everything on the $35 charcuterie board was apparently local, none of the meats or cheeses were described to us. We had to ask for mustard. Our server clearly wasnt happy to be there even though we tried to engage them in pleasant conversation. We heard the table next to us didnt get the salad they ordered. My Old Fashioned was watery and after the charcuterie that could have been local or could have been Loblaws we decided to pass on mains and head downtown instead (after waiting around for our bill). We noticed a table of ten inside get up and leave without ordering. Later we saw them downtown heading into a different restaurant. Definitely not worth the prices! But we made the best of it and our hotel stay was beautiful nonetheless.
Dinner was fantastic, beautiful veranda view towards the golf course. Great waiters and service. Highly recommend.
Amazing food and wonderful service!! The scallops are melt in your mouth perfection!
Beautiful spot. Fine finding at its best. Staff is friendly knowledgeable. Ambience was gorgeous. Food was delicious.
One of the worst dining experiences in terms of food we ve ever had, which is even more ridiculous given the price. I don t usually write negative reviews unless it is truly deserved, but this is. All the food was awful, and expensive. We ordered the seafood pasta (canned pesto, frozen seafood, not homemade pasta) and it was flavourless. We sent it back and they brought it back, hotter and saltier. Everything was under seasoned and sort of designed for people who struggle to eat hard food, which may be of design, but it is worth knowing. And when you re paying $50 an entree, you would expect very high quality, and this is similar to any bad chain restaurant. The service during the ordeal was shambolic (we had to ask for cutlery and salt) but when we complained, the server was fantastic and as accommodating as possible. This place is a candidate for Ramsay s Kitchen Nightmares. avoid if you care at all about food.
Excellent food, Alan and Penelope were great. A little pricey for the amount of food you get.
I ve eaten here and at their sister restaurant, Zees, many times and the food and service has always been excellent. However, my lunch at Hob Nov last week was a completely different story. I ordered the Reuben sandwich and my friend ordered a steak medium rare. Her steak arrived medium well to well done, although she said it was nicely seasoned, and her side salad was drowning in dressing. I was served a grilled cheese sandwich on focaccia instead of a Reuben on rye. By the time they replaced it, my friend was done with her meal and my fries were cold. The sandwich was also very dry and skimpy, just one or two slices of pastrami and about a teaspoon of sauerkraut, and it had cheddar cheese instead of Swiss! For $20 I expected a bit more.
Charming place and very good food. Excellent service.
Our waitress was lovely and the breakfast was as nice a one you would have at home
The evening we joined our Friends...for a Birthday Celebration...was wonderful... We enjoyed a leisure drink in the Cozy Bar...then went out to the fully enclosed Patio for a lovely dinner...taking in the last rays of daylight. My Duck was superb...the others enjoyed their dinners too. The Chocolate Fudge cake !!! Too die for !
Overall a positive experience but the food (for the price) left something to be desired. Set in a restored Victorian house, the restaurant provides a wonderful setting for what could be a good experience. On the night we were there, the service was top notch with attentive waitstaff. We had noted a special occasion on our reservation and were treated with a glass of champagne for our anniversary. The food was a bit of a letdown, especially given the price. My partner had the Lobster special and I treated myself to with Waigu ribeye. My steak was underwhelming, undersalted and served with a sauce that probably overwhelmed what should have been the taste of such an expensive cut. I did get a bit of my partners meal (who doesnt finish their lobster?) and it was nice. Properly cooked and seasoned. Overall its a decent place in Niagara to go to be treated well in nice surroundings.
We have stayed at the Charles Inn annually many times [2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019] and have eaten dinner at the Hob Nob restaurant numerous times. So, in August 2022, we made a reservation for dinner for October 8th. We dutifully acknowledged that we would be there when Open Table texted and emailed us to confirm. All was going well. We showed up on time, were seated and that was it. 20 minutes later, we realized that ours was the only table that was not being served. We asked about a server and, finally, one showed up to inform us that someone had called in sick so our table did not have an assigned server. We decided to leave. When dinner costs north of $300, no one wants to be sitting around waiting for orders to be taken, food to arrive, bills to show up etc. We went down the street and had a really nice dinner elsewhere. That said, it was nice of the Hob Nob to email a cancellation to us after we left. I guess they thought they cancelled us when we in fact cancelled them. The situation reminds me of that old Seinfeld episode about a lost reservation. As Jerry noted, you know how to *take* the reservation, you just dont know how to *hold* the reservation. And thats really the most important part of the reservation: the holding. Anybody can just take them
The menu was very limited. The food was good but not outstanding for the price. The service was excellent however and saved the experience.
Had the pleasure of going here for a date night and our waiter Alan was amazing. The food was great as well! I will definitely be back when in Niagara on the lake.
Really cozy. Great for date night. Old world charm. Fireplaces. Food was excellent . And service is also excellent. RSVP highly recommended.
This charming restaurant is in the Charles Hotel, and both the service and the food were exceptional. Highly recommended!
Not sure if this restaurant has an accessible entrance. I needed assistance carrying a walker up stairs while I had a tight grip on the entry stairs railing. Quite elegant and tastefully decorated exterior and interior. Given staff shortages all over, our server was very good. Excellent well prepared and presented menu selections within a reasonable time. My partner and I were quite happy at the Hob Nob.
Excellent service. Good food, with a simple wine list. Very nice ambiance created by a combination of formal home dining room decor and some group of seven inspired art work on the walls.
My meal was just okay. Ordered the duck special, absolutely no flavour, somewhat disappointing really. Staff was very nice Food
I dined here with my family a few nights ago and to say the experience was bad would be an understatement. Truly this was the worst experience weve had at any restaurant in the Niagara region and we come for three days/nights every Christmas season. Our waiter was barely interested in serving us, to the point where we had to ask what the specials were when he asked us what we d like to order. The most shocking was when he told us the soup was potato and carrot and he followed it up with but don t have it, it s disgusting. I m obligated to tell you what it is but as a human being Im going to be honest! There are many ways to suggest guests go for something else without making such a remark! Overall, when we got our appetizers and mains, they were tasteless and many of the items clearly days old. The seafood pasta, which two of us had, was worse than something I could make at home for half the price. Clearly dried store bought pasta, frozen seafood and canned pesto sauce. For a fine dining restaurant where dishes are $30-$50 a pop, you expect much MUCH more. Our waiter did not quality check our main and generally left us alone for the entire experience. We paid over $500 for a meal that truly wasn t worth half of that. I would steer clear of this place, I know we will!
1 Star only because we were never given an opportunity to even eat there. We were turned away because they were too busy. There was only a few people in the place and tons of empty seats. It was 9:00am. We were not offered an apology which was very rude. Such a weird deal. We drove all the way from the falls to eat there based on the reviews. Highly recommend calling ahead!
The food was absolutely incredible, the wait staff was very attentive and tried their best to make events special. Overall, the atmosphere was lovely. Due to Covid restrictions during our visit, sanitizer bottles were on every table and the veranda kept us safe under some intermittent rain. Very charming and quaint atmosphere. The price tag is quite high for what you are getting but the portions were large and very high quality!
Great food. Tried the crab benedict for breakfast, which was amazing.
Super expensive with just 4 main dishes (just standard beef, chicken, fish, and pasta). Portions are pretty small with loads of fries. Its tasty, but I would expect some kind of foie gras with exquisite decoration on the menu for that price. Nice staff and garden though.
The outdoor eating areas are overlooking a beautiful garden. Overall our experience was okay. Some of the appetizers are over priced like the $12.00 Parm fries for a tea cup size portion or the $14.00 soup. We do visit a fair amount of fine dining and stay away from chain restaurants whenever possible. So we do understand the amounts arent always on the large size. I ordered the 6oz beef tenderloin and it was delicious however, it came out as just a piece of meat on the plate since they brought my side out earlier with our friends appetizer. For the price they really should add some seasonal vegetables or spring greens to the plate. We skipped dessert and got some amazing Italian Gelato just a few minutes down the road. We had high hopes for this restraunt delivering a great dining experience since its in NOTL, but overall a modest dinner.
Very good food and service 4 of us enjoyed. great ambiance its worth a trip
Meh overpriced and overhyped. The food was so so. The entire restaurant smelled of fish (there must be something wrong with their ventilation system). Just little weird things kept happening: they brought us bread with a butter knife, but no butter. The glassware was mismatched. There was a door that kept loudly banging. Overall, a so so experience.
Great food and friendly service!
Excellent location and awesome food and service
Went last month on my Birthday. Nice service. Menu needs some creativity. I dont mind paying the higher prices but the flavour and plating needs some work. I think I upped my expectations when I saw a Chef de Cuisine was running the show. I got the pasta dish as I was excited to see a GF main pasta option. Couldnt eat it. Tasted bland and dry. Waiter insisted on fixing the issue but it came back worse tasting like white wine with no other flavour. Mushrooms were overcooked and dry.(for a pasta dish over $30+ you guys need to do better) Otherwise my significant other enjoyed his meal and his steak was cooked perfectly. I tried a couple of his fries and they were delicious. Unfortunately, I left the restaurant hungry on my birthday.
Great food. Service was okay. Sat outdoors, lovely ambience but beware of mosquitos!
We ate outside on the lovely porch Very good food service. All dishes had excellent taste. Highly recommended for a splurge or romantic evening.
I recommend it we had excellent service and ate very well the quality was there
Fresh food, friendly staff and located in a very nice area, condominiums, future hotel, by the water. A bit pricey, but good food!
The lack of proper AC really makes for a horrible dine in experience. Atleast a fan in the room would have made it more pleasant. The food is very average.
Great lunch experience during bike trip at @charleshobnobjobs . Eat, Drink. Repeat
great food, great service
Nice place, good service, but the food wasnt up to par. The portions are HUGE and the food is greasy and salty. In addition, we have the impression that the food is not fresh. In short, a very high bill for something that you can do (better!) at home. Damage ...
Very good, good service, very welcoming.
Very warm and welcoming we had an amazing dinner, food was delicious. Staff are extremely courteous, attentive and accommodating to your dietary restrictions.
We were seated on the upstairs terrace that had a view of the garden. The staff were very friendly and polite. Our food came out promptly but my beef tenderloin was overdone. I asked for it rare and it came medium and the edges were dry. The waiter was fantastic and got it replaced quickly and even offered us cheesecake on the house. This is also the first place weve gone in NOTL with actual charcuterie! Everywhere else weve ordered it from you only get a tiny serving you cant share. Here it was far more substantial and they give you a lot of meat. It was $32 so it was expensive but its a comparable price to other places weve gone in the area where they give you much less for the same price. Overall a good experience.
We had a great meal. The service was great. Overall a very enjoyable time.
What can I say except fantastic. I will come back to this place.
Excellent restaurant. Wonderful friendly service. Has the ambiance of an antebellum plantation. This is the second time weve been to Hob Nob and weve loved the food both times. This time we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and our server James greeted us with some bubbly. It was very thoughtful and much appreciated
Wonderful dinner at Hob Nob. The 24hr brine turkey breast was special and the wine was exquisite! Very nice experience. Thank you!
Literally best place in town for dinner service. Our server Al was amazing, the food was great and the atmosphere is very on point. We were celebrating our anniversary and they gave us 2 glasses of champagne as a gratitude. Thank you for making us happy.
Great breakfast and service was second to none.
Overall a nice experience. Service and food made the price work.
Food is excellent. Service very good
Superb food and service. A quaint restaurant that punches far above its weight.
Loved the pork belly and seared scallops dish. Perfect combination of flavours with the apple and tempura mushrooms. My only complaint would be that I found the scallops to be a little salty for my taste
Great breakfast
Food was okay. Seated us in a freezing veranda in the middle of the winter. Poor excuse to make them looking busy that night.
Fantastic and loved the atmosphere. This is what appears to be a refreshed Victorian house that one you walk inside says great ambience and food,. located a few steps away from the downtown bustle. The staff, from hostess, serving and bus person were attentive and friendly - a top notch team here. Food wont disappoint. Notably the Mac and cheese was about perfect, and that bacon flavour in the sauce was a tasty gem. Sauce would have benefitted from a few more mins cooking, so more if it would cling to the pasta. This is a definite place to come and avoid the tourist traps just 5mins away. (Free parking in the back).
Great food, great service. Great people. Who could ask for more.
Food is great, service could be better, but definitely worth it!
We had a wonderful dinner last night with a group of friends. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. I started with the beet salad with smoked salmon, the duck confit for my main course and finished with the panna cotta. Every dish was beautifully constructed, full of flavour with the perfect balance of textures. We received top notch service from Alan and Darren, their attention to detail was impeccable. We will definitely return!
My wife and I recently ate at Hob Nob and it was one of the best dinners we have had in a long time. Amazing menu choices along with a great wine/ cocktail section. The duck and rainbow trout mains were cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned and paired with delicious sides. Our server Alan, topped off our experience with his professional and knowledgeable service along with his welcoming and friendly demeanour. We will be back again for sure! Fine dining at its best in Niagara on the Lake!
It was great. . And some chef named Sandra was the best. Anything we wanted ,we got. Great place.
Lovely and romantic experience for our anniversary. A delicious meal, in an elegant setting for a special occasion. High on the list of favourite local restaurants. I love to come for lunch as well, as a more affordable treat. The menus do offer change and variety depending on the season. Of course the wine cellar is well stocked, expect no less in Niagara On The Lake. They do offer a date night dinner for couples on Sunday nights, $50 total, which I love! And one day, I will have to try the tasting menu, Im sure it will be worth it...
Expensive, very high class setting I feel it attracts the snobby class of people but a good place to experience none the less.
Excelent
Came here as part of a wine tour and the menu was somewhat fixed......3 appetizer choices (soup, 2 salads) I chose the salad and it came out and it was very basic. Meal was an over priced mac and cheese. The dessert was a blob of coconut cream and 3 blueberries with a little bit if sauce........not worth the money at all. The Keg would have been better. Mcdonalds would have been better. The service was very monotone and very little interaction.
Hands down the best Niagara-on-the-Lake got! We were on the patio and Dan was our server, killer menu and the food is to die for, we split a bunch of stuff and it was perfect!
Fantastic Hamburger made with fresh ground beef. A real delicacy.
I think this was our 6th year in a row and we do the same thing each time. We arrive at 6pm for an 8pm show and we are not rushed. Dinner is wonderful and there are always great things to choose. One of the best in Niagara on the Lake.
Good meal
Subpar... Disappointed in our experience as we were expecting the evening to align with the reputation and the pricing on the menu. Service was dodgy from the start... typo on the menu... felt like we were at a pub rather than a fine dining restaurant and the situation degraded quickly. Pros: Mains were well-executed and the seating was very comfortable. Cons: lack of consistency with the food (apps were hit and miss, desserts were disappointing) and service was not sophisticated, which lead to friction in my party and palpable, mounting frustration from wait staff. At $100/head we expected a more refined experience.
Absolutely amazing!! Flavours were delicious, very talented chef. The serve was great and it is located in a unique historical home. Would highly recommend checking it out!
Came for lunch with a group wine tour. Menu selection was good but service was excruciatingly slow. It took nearly 2 hours from entry to exit.
Top kitchen
Very nice.
Fantastic Truffle Mac & Cheese with pancetta and delicious large serving of Butter Chicken poutine!!
Amazing mussels and fries !! The best Iv had in a long time. The sauce was creamy and just the right amount of garlic ( some places put to much garlic ) really wonderfully seasoned and a hit of jalapeno totally rounded out the flavor . Highly recommend for a great lunch. The ambiance is lovely as was our waitress.
This was a very beautiful restaurant in NOTL that we went to after 9 winery tours. I would give it 3.5 stars because of the food. The food was good but very ordinary, nothing that I was awed or amazed by, considering the rating of the restaurant. I have tried many fine dining restaurants and the food usually has a wow factor, even chains like Ruth s Chris Steakhouse. We got the venison entree and the duck breast entree along with potato leek soup and the clafoutis for dessert and a cappuccino. While they were good, none of the items were exceptional to make it a very memorable experience. The service, however, was good.
Excellent food!
No one I have ever taken here has ever said a bad thing about the place or the food.
The service wss fantastic. The sirloin was small but tasted delicious. The room was gorgeous.
Fantastic meals at Hob Nob while I stayed at the Charles Hotel. The Tasting Menu was amazing (with matching wines from the Niagara area). Also, breakfasts every morning we re fantastic. (Attached is a picture of the Crab Benedict.)
Secluded, quiet, relaxing, perfect for a romantic date! The food was delicious! I would have appreciated if our waiter would have been able to describe the dishes a little better.
Overall nice. The attempt on the quality and variety of ingredients and methods were good. The results were not as good, considering the price. Either need to be cheaper or higher results for food.
The fish chowder is amazing. The gnocchi was Ill advised - hard potato pasta and the sauce was super spicy and acidic. Likely rushed and had cauliflower in it, not as advertised. Salmon was overcooked and salty, but better than the gnocchi. Dessert was whip cream with jam, less than impressed. Small portions, but maybe because it was part of a Wine Tour? Not sure, but wouldnt come back.
Expensive but the quality is unbelievable. You are in a top notch professional place. Top chefs top wait staff and amazing atmosphere. This place is worth checking out. From the the bathroom being spotless to the full experience of the meal, it was just wonderful to be able to be in this restaurant. Definitely high end.
Expensive but top notch. We stayed for 2 and a half hours eating the best meal we ever had in our lives. The beef tartare was absolutely incredible and the presentation was phenomenal. The chef here is incredible.
Went on a Thursday evening in early winter and we were essentially the only ones there in the dining room (there were others in the lounge). We had the Travelzoo Harbour House package, which gave us a $40 off coupon. We were seated beside the fireplace, which was great! The food was amazing! Everything was flavourful, and just perfect. Service was also very good. Overall, it was a great night out and we would come back again!
We came here for my friends bachelorette weekend-the potato and leek soup and chicken parm was mouth watering! Chef Thoshan was absolutely amazing!!
Good food great atmosphere
Overall the service was bad and the staff clearly lacked training. One of the guests at our table has a dairy allergy, which we informed our waiter of but was clearly lost at some point. The first dish was a gift from the kitchen , when we asked if there was dairy in the soup the waiter had to go check. Long story short, there was. The waiter would then stop by with other guests food for us to view so we could get a better understanding of what to expect. I appreciate the thought, but it s hardly a sanitary practice. As we were eating the bus boys were busy setting the tables for tomorrow s breakfast. Finally, when the waiter poured our water his finger would rest around the lip of the glass as he placed the carafe on the side of the glass as he poured the water. All this to say it made us question the sanitary practices of this establishment. I expect this at Danny s, not at this level of restaurant. As for the food, the chicken liver mouse was interesting, the crostini was incredible stale, imagine toasting a piece of baguette, refrigerating it, and then popping it in the microwave before serving. It was chewy and very... flexible. The rest of the food was mediocre at best. The duck was cooked well. The total bill was $172, an absolutely astonishing high bill considering the quality of service and food we received. I will never be returning to this restaurant again.
We had a great late lunch here. The food and service was amazing. Executive Chef T. Alweera did a great job with the dishes, and his kind and courteous service really made our experience that much better. Will definitely be back for more of the great food and for the salted caramel icecream and sticky toffee pudding!
Service and food was excellent. Very quiet and romantic atmosphere. Go for the Wagyu beef vs the regular steak. Well worth the extra $10.
The food was great (service was slow and not always as attentive as we would have liked, but we were there during the off season, which may explain it)
