After all the hype and online recommendations, we decided to try The Olde Angel Inn for lunch while visiting Niagara-On-The-Lake. Upon arrival we were pleased with the old style pub atmosphere, at this point things went downhill. We asked to sit at a table by a window at which point menus were thrust into our hands by the bartender. We sat at our table and placed our order the ”famous fish and chips” and two hot teas. When our teas arrived the water was not even lukewarm. I took the teas to the bar and was ignored, the bartender then proceeded to go and clean a table, then take and serve a drinks order to what appeared to be some familiar locals and have a conversation with them. When the bartender finally acknowledged me, I told her what was wrong and she took the teas away to be sorted out (okay, finally getting somewhere). The teas came back to our table along with a myriad of excuses as to kettle issues etc. Now on to the food! The fish and chips were not worthy of the hype. The chips were mediocre at best, the fish was tasteless with the batter being gluey on the inside. $48.00 for two orders of what this establishment is “famous” for, so we will not return.

Came in during lunch rush. We were seated quickly which was nice. Ordered the Buffalo Chicken Wrap w/ fries. Two bites into the wrap and the chicken was gone. You’d think for a $25 wrap, you’d get a little more. The fries were very soggy and oily.

I gave 1 star for rooms, but it's actually for the food. Service was great, decent atmosphere. Fries were good, but the burgers we both had were so dry and overcooked. They need to be cooked less and for the price, the meat should be a bit better quality. Also, why is the menu gigantic? You're a pub. Slim it down to a 1/4 its size and you'd have higher quality dishes with a lot less mediocre ones to worry about cooking. Just my advice from what I've seen of pubs with great food.

The hotel is an historical wonder (even if I didn't see the ghost). It dates back to the war of 1812 when it got burned down and rebuilt in 1815. The staff are very helpful and personable. The room was comfortable, clean and cosy. I especially liked where it is located very close to all the shops and restaurants although they too have an in house pub that is good. It's a safe location and everything of importance such as the theatres are within walking distance. Lastly the price was reasonable and affordable.

A neat pub, with a lot of character. The food was delicious and the staff was friendly and helpful. Not a wheelchair accessible establishment as it is an old building and washrooms are located in the basement. I would definitely like to come back and try other menu items.

I have enjoyed weekend getaways with friends to Niagara-on-the-lake for 10 years and every trip we go to the Inn for dinner and live music. And occasionally we’ve stayed at the inn and loved it. This trip the five of us visited the weekend of Nov 8 and enjoyed dinner on Friday and live music from the band Grand Theft Audio on Saturday night. The service was amazing especially considering how crowded it can get late night. The band was so much fun as was the crowd. For dinner we enjoyed the Greek salad, shepherd’s pie and steak & onion pie. I highly recommend checking out the Inn if you are looking for delicious pub food in a warm and welcoming space with the bonus of live music.

If you’re in Niagara-on-the-Lake and want an unforgettable experience, you have to check out The Olde Angel Inn. It’s the most fun spot in town to grab food, have a drink, and enjoy some live music. The menu is packed with awesome options, and everything we had was delicious. The drink selection? Equally amazing. The staff are incredibly charming—we even had the pleasure of chatting with the lovely woman who owns the bar. We stayed the night, and the room was so charming, with incredible attention to detail that made it feel cozy and special. They went above and beyond, organizing a beautiful carriage ride for us and helping set up a winery tour. Plus, they gave us a ton of great recommendations on places to check out around town. Can’t recommend this place enough—definitely a must-visit when you’re in the area!

Visited town for the Shaw Festival. We almost always eat lunch at the inn. We find the food top notch and a good value. Never had bad service either. All the wait staff we've dealt with have been great. Our first lunch my wife had the feature Ham and Cheese on a bun and I had the Meatloaf sandwich. Both were delicious, huge portions. Next day we returned and since it was hot we split a fish on a bun with a side salad. Probably the best fish sandwich I've ever had. Delicious fish, crisp tasty batter. Good beer and cocktail selection. Good food and a great value in a pub setting also a great patio.

After decades of popping in for drinks and a bit to eat, we stayed overnight. Room was cozy, and very clean and very enjoyable. Walkability: Great location Food and drinks: Pub food is pretty average and on busy nights can be a little inconsitent. But great vibe to enjoy a drink. Noteworthy details: Small, so during busy times at events, other than Shaw Festival, it can be a wait.

Olde Angel Inn !!! This place is great, awesome, fantastic, friendly. Cass is AMAZING!!! What a fun and friendly person with a great smile. Thank you Greg and Cass for making us feel at home. Haunted???

December 15, 2024

Very disappointed in the Angel Inn. I have been going there since 2018. The prices were good and the food portions were great. I especially liked the meatloaf dinner. I started to notice the portions shrinking and the prices going way up. $9 for onion soup went up to $14. A individual side of gravey is $3 and it tastes watered down!! Thats not inflation thats just greed. I was there 2 weeks ago and ordered the meatloaf sandwich with extra mayo and they ended up charging me $2 for the extra mayo. I didnt take notice till after I already paid so I just let it go. I was there the other day with some friends around 12ish and we wanted to order the meatloaf dinner and was really annoyed when they told us they didnt have any. I ordered the beef dip sandwich instead which I have had before and enjoyed but this time when they brought it out I was not impressed at all. They had cut back 50% of the beef and the cheese on it. Prices are no longer good and they are nickle and diming everything so I no longer will be recomending them.

Everything went well until we noticed other s seated just before us kept getting drinks and food. We got water, coffee and iced tea. We had to leave (45 min ant this point)we talked to the waitress & still had to wait to get our over 100.00 meal in takeout containers. Rushing out we realized they didn t even have the forethought that we hadn t eaten and had to go in to get cutlery. My husband asked the guy at cash for our cutlery and the reaction give me a second instant regret for even paying for the food and tipping the waitress- will never return or recommend

Do not go. Perhaps if you re looking to shelter from the rain .but don t go if you re looking for a good meal. The fries were compressed saw dust, the poutine wasn t even warm enough to melt the cheese. 3 of our 4 meals came quite promptly but the 4th took another 15+minutes to get to the table. It was a Ruben . The pitcher of sangria is not worth the price. It filled 4 small wine glasses and the rest was ice and fruit. So very disappointed and confused why it s so busy

The food was really not very good. The fried fish was like eating a loaf of bread. My wife said the risotto had no parmesen and not enough mushrooms. Not even close to the best pub food in the world! I find it hard to believe the rating of this restaurant.

November 22, 2024

My family, who has visited the Angle Inn pub many times as we live in Niagara on the lake, had a terrible experience today Nov 16 2024. We walked into a busy bar and proceeded to find some bar stools in the corner (as we have done in past). We were then scolded by a bar tender to remove ourselves from the corner and wait to be seated. The manner in which she spoke to us we found rude and abrasive and frankly unprofessional. This was done in a loud voice that drew the attention of many other patrons. We subsequently left the pub feeling embarrassed and upset. After this disappointing experience we no longer want to visit in future, nor recommend our guests to go.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Olde Angel Inn in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and the experience was nothing short of delightful. Walking into the historic establishment felt like stepping back in time, with its cozy ambiance and friendly staff greeting us with warm smiles. After hearing so much about their famous pub fare, my expectations were high, and I m happy to say they didn t disappoint! To start, I ordered their classic French Onion Soup, which arrived bubbling in its signature crock, the cheese perfectly melted over the edges. The rich broth and caramelized onions had such depth, and the toasted bread underneath soaked up the flavors beautifully. It was the ideal comfort food for a cool autumn evening. Next up was the chicken pot pie a dish that immediately caught my eye. The golden, flaky crust was the perfect complement to the creamy filling inside, packed with tender chicken and vegetables. Paired with crispy fries and a side of peas and carrots, it was hearty and delicious. My partner opted for the shepherd s pie, which came with a side of crusty bread and veggies. The mashed potato topping was perfectly golden, and underneath lay a savory mixture of ground meat and vegetables, all swimming in a rich gravy. It tasted homemade, the kind of dish that reminds you of family dinners by the fire. For my final indulgence, I couldn t resist trying the sausages with caramelized onions and gravy. The sausages were juicy and well-seasoned, and the onions added just the right amount of sweetness. It was served with peas, carrots, and a side of rich brown gravy that brought everything together. Overall, the Olde Angel Inn exceeded all my expectations. The food was fantastic, the portions were generous, and the historic setting made for an unforgettable dining experience. I highly recommend visiting if youre ever in Niagara-on-the-Lake just make sure to come hungry! Walkability: This location in NOTL is walkable and scenic.

Had some drinks and appetizers at the Olde Angel Inn. It was a lacklustre experience unfortunately. Both of our ordered drinks were not in stock.. Ordered another beer and also not in stock. Ordered a cosmo only to be told that they were also out of an ingredient.. The drink I received was good but not great. The beer that we finally ordered was very flat. The caesar salad was very basic.. Nothing special, not much dressing, basic store bought tiny tasteless croutons and almost non-existent bacon. The garlic bread looked like the brand furlani from the fresh Co grocery store. Pricey and not worth any hype at all. Came for the experience but it did not meet any of our expectations. Will enjoy the history of the Inn but will skip the dining and bar next time.

My husband and I came to the Inn for a drink to check out the vibe of this place sonce its literally one of the only bars open. The bar tender female was super unfriendly and when we wanted to pay she just kind of tossed the debit machin in our direction, we were paying cash which took about 7 min to get someones attention to pay. Then when she took the cash she asked if we wanted chamge Like hell yes we do, we tip those worthy of tipping, which she was not. Drinks are 15 each which i guess isnt bad for rish town but the vibe was crap, some possessed woman was cussing her man the whole time and zero music to block out peoples conversations. So yea i hated the vibe. You may like if youre nosey and dont care if your server is standoffish and if you dont like music because there was none i will never go back.

Ate lunch in the back garden. Lovely location. Unfortunately the temperature that day was a bit chilly. For a very large section they only had two wait staff and they were struggling to keep up. Food was traditional pub fare, I had the Angus burger which was fantastic and the other person I was with had the fish and chips. The fish and chips were a bit bland and came with way too many chips. Pricing was in line with other restaurants in the area, overall it was a nice place, just not a great place.

The pub boasts having award winning fish and chips, and though I ate them all, the thought of the chips makes me want to throw up - they were short pieces of stale, soggy fries that were barely warm, and looked as though theyd been sitting around for a while. The fish was a large piece, but flavorless and the tartar sauce was more like a pasty mayonnaise, and the coleslaw was wet and soggy. VERY unimpressive - would rather go to a fish & chips shop. The back garden patio is spacious and pleasant, but the servers ignore the clients and can be curt, and are generally inattentive. Of the six in our party, each having ordered a different dish, only one had a plate that looked inviting. Would MAYBE go for a drink... probably not - rather explore some other restaurants/ pubs instead!

The service was extremely slow, and the staff seemed inattentive to both our time and food. Despite requesting a specific table, we were informed by the server that they needed to fill certain tables first. We waited nearly 40 minutes just for our drinks, and it was a different server who eventually took our food order. After a long wait, the food arrived, but it was disappointing, and no staff member checked on us afterward. We finished our meal, paid the bill, and left as quickly as possible. This establishment clearly needs to hire more staff, especially on weekends, and provide better customer service training.

Very busy Irish pub, large staff on hand. Food will take a minimum of 30 minutes to arrive but thats to be expected given the bars popularity. The fish and chips were very good but the cole slaw had no flavor. Good drinks at a reasonable price. The live music is fun and rowdy, might be too loud for some (not us!). Great outdoor patio area. So why the two stars? Weve been coming to NOTL and the Olde Angel Inn almost every year for 30 years. Last year, as we were walking out the door, someone made a disparaging remark about this aint no gay bar. At first we thought it was a drunk customer. But when we heard it again this year, it was without doubt the doorman. We wont be back.

What a shame this beautiful historic location is owned by individuals who do not train staff to treat people in a decent manner. We walked past the patio and saw half of the tables vacant. We proceeded to the front door entrance and asked the gentlemen behind the bar to be seated on the patio. He replied that there were no tables available in the patio. My friend then advised there were quite a few. Thinking perhaps the employee wasn t made aware as you cannot see the patio from the front. The employee proceeded to repeat the exact same words, but this time in a very condescending aggressive tone, and firm stare. By the look of his physique, seems he may have taken too much testosterone that day. As clearly his inappropriate tone and character was of an angry individual. As locals, we support small businesses during your off season as well. Keep that in mind as you have now turned away 2 separate households from ever supporting this local establishment.

First time visiting this location and unfortunately won t ever go back or recommend this place to anyone I know. Staff weren t overly friendly. Bare minimum to be honest. The service was awfully slow, which I understand on a busy weekend so I won t fault them for that. However, I specifically asked for my 19 month old son s food to come out first. Simple mac and cheese. The food took well over 1.5 hours to arrive, at the halfway mark I searched for a server and asked them to please bring my sons food asap, the rest of us could wait since he was hungry and we all know what a hungry toddler behaviour is like. I was told it s busy, that s it. The food finally begins to come out and still nothing for my son. I ask the server and he says oh we don t have any pasta right now, not even an apology until I visibly became upset and asked why I wasn t notified immediately. Why I had to wait almost 2 hours to find out that they didn t have his meal is beyond me. Other than the one simple sorry, there was no offer to comp the replacement- probably microwavable pizza that was then ordered. I wasn t going to fight for $12 to be removed but the simple gesture would ve been kind. I hate complaining and writing poor reviews but some customer service training is really needed for the staff.

A few things that were meh about the stay (3 nights). The Generals Quarters suite - the beds are pushed up against a wall such that 2 of the 4 sides are blocked. This makes for an uncomfortable experience when sharing a bed. On the plus side there is a separate seating area that allows you to have a drink in your room comfortably. We did two nights in this room. The third night we moved over to The Governors Room. This room has two large beds (I believe one king and one queen (or two kings)) and this is much more commensurate to a hotel room suite. There is a pseudo sitting area in one of the bedrooms. Hind Sight 20/20 - this room is the way to go if you have 3 to 4 people in your party. Of note - the electrics are a bit shoddy. If you plug something in at the side of the bed (ie. phone charger) it will cut out the fan and the lights in the bathroom intermittently. Must be a loose connection that requires some attention. No fridges in each of the rooms - this should be a given for this type of room/expense. We had a meal on our first night - the food was mediocre and the service we had from one young blonde woman was pitiful. We were left feeling uncared for and that we were a chore for being there. No eye contact - all matter of fact and no feeling of care for us as customers. At some point I had to leave my table and address this with another server/manager in the restaurant. We were given 20% off which was a nice gesture. Back to the food - nothing we ordered was great. Id suggest eating elsewhere unless you really have no expectations or dont really care. The last thing that irks me is the 3% MAT tax. What the hell is this? As far as I can tell (https://niagarafalls.ca/city-hall/finance/municipal-accommodation-tax.aspx) this tax is to be 2$ per room, per night. We should have paid $6 and not $44. Buyer beware. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth. To the good stuff - Leah is whom I dealt with at the reservation desk. Lovely person. Kind, sense of humor, patient and very helpful. At check in there was also a lovely bloke who helped us check in as we got there after Leah had left. Also kind and helpful. The rooms are amazing (keep in mind the age of the building), they have lots of character. The town is gorgeous - it doesnt really matter where you lay your head as long as it is clean. Enjoy your stay in the area - lots of nice things to do and see within 1km square of the hotel. I wish I could give 4 stars but the encounter in the restaurant really did spoil our first night in Niagara. I also think the MAT is a scam. I am pretty sure CBC Marketplace did an expose on this..... Nearby activities: Lots to do in Niagara on the Lake - the town, the wineries, the parks, the beach, the restaurants. Walkability: Lots of the nearby activities are within walking distance of the hotel.

We stopped in one day while visiting the town. Its a quaint tavern built in the late 1700s. The food and service were great. The ambiance of the old in were amazing. Definitely worth a visit to be in a place built so long ago. We had the crab cake sandwich. It was delicious. My favorite part was touching a beam that was installed in the late 1700s

An old pub conserving the British culture in the heart of Niagara on the Lake. This is a good casual spot if you are spending some time in this town. They have outdoor seating in their patio during summer. Their famous plates are fish and chips and burgers. Both of them tasted very good, in addition to the large sizes, which is always something good to consider for those great eaters. This town gets very busy during summer, and the pub is prepared with as many servers as needed to attend big numbers of guests.

Update August 2024 : Came back for 2 nights and had an Amazing time yet again. Leah checked us in and OMG she is literally the best ( #1 ). Our waitress was fantastic and the service was fast and friendly. I love coming here and cant wait to book again. Weve now stayed in a few of the rooms upstairs, and if you want a new experience, I highly recommend the cottage, old timey charm, and cozy. Stayed for two nights, it was such a great experience and the staff were absolutely fantastic. Our second night we had something creepy happen. We left a small lamp on and when we came back to the room one of the doors was open in the room and the lamp was unplugged 10/10 would highly recommend staying here especially if you like ghosts. Also the food is 10/10 highly recommend trying the fish and chips.

Very cool place to visit! The night before we ate here, we heard some of the history and stories from a guided ghost walk- which made us excited to check it out! We ate on a Friday evening around 6:30, and there were plenty of open tables. The atmosphere was great! The inside was a little loud, so we sat in the garden out back- which was really comfortable, shaded, and relaxing. Food was delicious, yet heavy. We ordered the fishermans pie, bangers and mash, and meatloaf dinners. Service was very laid back and friendly- they gave good recommendations, but were quite slow to fulfill our refill requests and prepare the check. The bathrooms are downstairs just around the corner from Captain Swayzes Cellar. We did not experience any haunting behavior during our visit, but enjoyed ourselves, nonetheless.

Let me start by saying that every time we are visiting Niagara on the Lake we are dining at this pub and we never had any issues until our last visit. The food and drinks were great and the entertainment amazing but the overall experience left me with a bad feeling because of one incident that happened when we were sat at the table. Long story short, a server (not our server) came and got us up saying that he was holding that table for another group. He was extremely rude and did not even offer another table. This person should be sent for a training to refresh his customer service skills and until he passes a test should not be allowed to serve. Another server came to help us and offered us a table. The music also helped to bring the good spirits back. But are we going back? Not sure

The Olde Angel Inn was a favorite of my wifes for lunch when we visited Niagara-on-the-Lake from Rochester, NY every year. She passed away a couple years ago, and I stopped by for lunch while in NOTL after a round of golf at NOTL Golf Club. She always enjoyed the Shepards Pie and I always ordered the fish and chips, which I did on this day. Not impressed! Knowing the inn is small and over 200 yrs old it s not sound proof. Stylized interior, a fireplace with a burning fire, rough furniture, simple food and all this almost on the shore of Lake Ontario, where an American fort can be seen in the distance... create the feeling that you are in a tavern of the late 18th - early 19th century. Ask staff about the ghost. The best bar I know but some of that is nostalgia because its the only bar I can remember going to as a teenager that still exists. There is another but I dont remember drinking there, only working there, as a teenager. Most beers are 20 oz which is great Some are an American 16 oz and much more expensive, watch out Dont buy them, teach them that a pint in Canada is 20 oz by definition (Note, this wasnt a problem not that long ago. Definitely not in 2019 or before.) A pint is 20 oz according to our government folks. A British bar that survived the War of 1812 shouldnt serve American 16 oz pints ever Food and drinks: I believe Ive had more beers at this specific bar than any other bar or other room in existence. Ive been drinking there all my life though I live out of town now.

March 22, 2024

Our experience in the olde angel pub was very sub par. The Bad- food and service The good- drinks and atmosphere We had awful service. We had to flag down our server to take our food order and we had to flag him down every time someone in our party wanted another drink. He never removed the dinner menus from our table (which crowded our table) and he NEVER came to the table to ask how our food was (which if I had of he would have heard that the food was awful). We were also celebrating a birthday and we asked if he would bring a slice of cheesecake to the birthday girl. We were worried that the server may bring out the cake too early since he had been so incompetent thus far. Sure enough he brought out the cake BEFORE we were done eating and BEFORE he had removed a single dirty dinner plate. I was shocked by this as this is like server 101 and basic common sense that seemed lost on our server. He also didn t bring a utensils for the cake to the eaten with. He then wrapped up our dinner experience by informing us he wanted cash tips which was jarring. We were a table of 6 so not a super large group but it seemed like the server did not want to acknowledge us as we watched him give what appeared to be much better service to a group of 2 who came in just after us. The food came out to us cold and the chicken in the Caesar wrap and the curry was obviously frozen pre cooked chicken strips (think the chicken breast strips from the deli of a grocery store) as the chicken was served cold and flavourless. The best part of the meal was the fries and the cheesecake! The drinks were great and well priced. The pub atmosphere is charming and the live music was nice. That being said I will never be back given how terrible the service was and the food was so expensive and bad.

The bread pudding for dessert was also good. We werent aware that the roast beef was going to be thinly sliced, well done, and smothered in gravy but I guess, for the price, you get what you pay for. I cant comment on the rooms because we only attended the pub. The vibe was great with lively chatter and, later, a pretty awesome band. On the other hand, the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered the escargot, stuffed mushrooms, and crab cakes. None of the appetizers were particularly bad or particularly good. Both the mushrooms and escargot were caked in cheese though. For mains our table had the fish n chips, steak Guinness onion pie, a wrap, lamb shank, and meatloaf. None of it was exceptional or resonated as comfort food. To paint a clear picture, the meatloaf was reheated leftovers with previously frozen carrots/peas and a side of canned beans all smothered in a think brown gravy that congealed on arrival. Food aside, the pub has a vibrant atmosphere. Id recommend the location for music/drinks.

Servers were polite, that is the positive of this review. Two adults, two starters, two mains, two cokes $120 plus tip. Starters - French onion soup- chunky cheese, insipid broth & soggy bread Mains Fish & chips - whoever gave the fish & chips an award needs to take it back. The fries were very obviously reheated to the point they were deep brown & dry. The fish was flavourless, the batter was undercooked & stodgy. Bangers & Mash - overly cooked sausages are unseasoned mashed potato No English pub would ever serve this poor excuse for food, this is a completely money grab banking on tourists looking for a cliche English pub meal.
