Cafe 56 in Norfolk

Good coffee. Great Waite staff. Most of the food is enjoyable. The haddock is way overcooked to the point that the batter cut my gums, and the fish was almost dehydrated. I was told it has to be cooked like that, and I totally disagree. I had a restaurant, and the fish was moist, and the batter was crisp without tearing up the inside of my mouth. There will always be something that someone may not like, but overall, everything else is good. Wheelchair accessibility: The place is not bid enough to accommodate a wheelchair.

We had Breakfast today , we both enjoyed what we had gotten , been there a few times food has not disappointed us.

Always a good place to eat

Good breakfast meals. I didnt really care for the lunch they have typical diner cheeseburgers. Dont get me wrong their burgers are good but nothing exceptional. They have excellent breakfast in the morning but the lunch I had wasnt anything exciting. Today there was a long hair on my plate with the main course. The burgers are some mystery meat with filling in it.

The Reuben was delicious and enough for two

The food was for the most part good, a little over cooked. The two waitresss seemed to be fighting and ours was not very intentive and was yelling at another employee about cleaning up the bathrooms. The restaurant was also filthy. Usually this place is fairly good but it was very disappointing this time around.

Tables were clean. The decorations were cute. The waitress was patient with the three children we had with us. Food came out fast, was exactly what we asked for and was good. Cant ask for anything more.

Great food & service! Its no wonder theyre always busy!

The only issue we had was that it was freezing by the wall! You could feel the cold radiating through. Next time we will be sure to sit away from the outside wall, but other than that everything was wonderful!

3rd time I have been at Cafe 56 and never disappointed with the amount, quality and price of the meal.

I got so sick after eating here. It s always been a somewhat pleasant experience food and all in the past. Not sure what happened.

Service horrible waitress was very pushy and once food delivered she never came back to check on us. The food was all over cooked but couldnt bring to her attention as we were avoided like the plague. $100 bill for that not again maybe if your local you get a better experience but I wont be back

Stopped in while we were in town for hockey and had a great meal. Excellent service, excellent food, and made us feel right like home.

The menu, service and staff are good. However I have not ever been in a colder restaurant in St Lawrence County. Many fellow customers expressed the same discomfort yesterday November 5th, 2023. We cant fathom how cold it must be when winter really sets in.....cjd

Never have I picked up an order and it completely all be there.

Epitome of dinership. NOT what youd expect in this present day, but what to us old-timer diner goers have come to expect from a vintage diner. Good, affordable breakfast, with little pretense, lots of chatter going on, friendly waitresses, clean bathroom, and a seat by a window. Will go back.

It was our PLEASURE to finally find a good , family oriented and run diner near home on the weekly way down to Potsdam on the Route 56 that we always travel. The quality of the food , the attentiveness of the server and the menu pricing are all fabulous ! This was an extra GIFT on Sunday , September 4th , my 70th birthday based on a great recommendation of our neighbors on Wilson Hill Island . As I have often made reviews as to the absence of these redeeming qualities in many posts , Cafe 56 is a welcome departure from the many substandard experiences Millie and I have endured in the past 5 years . The only question is why did it take so long for us to give them a try . We will now become some of their loyal regulars and the best to their entire staff and their families , also best of wishes to Ms. Mary Jane on her future new arrival !

This establishment is everything one would want in a small town diner. Our large party was greated with smiles and small talk by multiple employees. My wife and I split a hot Turkey sandwich and Cowboy burger. Neither disappointed us. The turkey tasted as if it was carved from your Thanksgiving Turkey dinner. The burger was cooked to moist perfection with a large crunchy onion ring between the burger and bun. Be sure to leave room for dessert! The Apple Logs were an excellent ending to our great meal. The staff recognized when our table needed service and exceeded our expectations for service. Thank you All!

Decided to go tonight for dinner. There was 6 of us all together. 4 out of 6 orders we messed up with something missing or completely wrong. I didn t get a cup or soup, my father in law lacked a side of gravy and a side salad. My girlfriend ordered a Buffalo chicken sandwich and when it came out the lettuce was black and wilted with no Buffalo sauce what so ever. When asked how everything was I told her, I would have informed her about it before hand but she didn t come back to our table for probably 45 minutes after we got our food. Not a good experience at all. Prices weren t terrible but it kinda relfected how the food was.

Not impressed. The food was just Meh . And it took over an hour to get our food from a waitress that had no idea what she was doing and on top of that most of my fries were freezing cold in the middle with hot gravy on the outside one visit and not going back.

The whole experience was less than idle. Food was terrible, service was terrible, workers were rude. My husband and I walk in and we re immediately seated and place our order after about 5 minutes. We order regular pancakes and a grilled cheese - as simple as simple can be. Then, we watch a table of about 10 people get seated behind us and we listen to them place their order, no big deal. Then we wait. And wait. And wait some more. Now it s an hour later and we still don t have our food. My husband goes up to the counter to ask when we can expect our food since we re still waiting and the woman working, very rudely, tells him that we were seated after that large party and we would get our food after theirs. My husband said we were here before them and the woman snapped at him and said no we weren t, so he just let it go and sat back down. During this time, we watched several other tables get seated AND served while we were still waiting for our pancakes and chilled cheese. It s now almost two hours since we sat down and we finally just got our food. The grilled cheese was average grilled cheese, nothing fancy, just a classic. The pancakes, however, were TERRIBLE. They were so dense, the exact opposite texture you would want in a pancake, and they tasted like straight up flour. I don t think this place even knows what vanilla is. You had to dump so much syrup on the pancakes just to give it some kind of moisture and to cover up the flavorless flour taste. You re better off driving the extra 10 minutes to the Hometown Norwood Cafe that s up the street. The service and food here are not worth it.

Cafe 56 has a wonderful owner! She puts her heart into preparing the daily specials. Only once I had a bad hamburger, told the server and she continued to take orders without consulting the cook to check if there were any more that may be bad. She definitely does not work there any longer. My friend and I went there for Thanksgiving. The food was good and the grave had a great taste without all the salt you may find elsewhere. Unfortunately, holidays dinners should be cooked at home if able-bodied to do so...

Just the normal upper NY place. Slow service and mostly frozen food. Dirty kitchen and dirty people. Sits in the middle of a trailer park which is fitting.

This place is a little bit drive from us..but we will go the extra mile for the omelets, waffles, desserts and dont forget them Friday Fish Fries. You wont be disappointed if you make the trip.

The chips were stale and soaked in pickle juice. Fries were not home cooked as ordered, and had a mix of old recooked fries mixed in with undercooked fries.

One of the waitresses was not wearing gloves wile handling food. They wore masks but didnt cover their noses and mouths. Very slow service.
