The Gull Bar and Kitchen in North Vancouver

Ill kick this off by saying that I actually really enjoy The Gull and have had nothing but pleasant experiences there until now. I called the restaurant to order a meal for take out. The lady who answered the phone was mildly rude and finally said Okay let me put you on hold, we are really busy right now. So I was put on hold thinking I would wait a couple of minutes. 15 minutes later I decided to hang up. First, it is not my problem if you are busy or not, in fact, good for you - more money in your pocket! If you arent able to take my take out order at the moment because you are busy, say that when you answer the phone instead of making a paying customer wait for 15+ minutes on the phone! That is disrespectful and I will certainly think twice about ordering from The Gull in the future.

Gem of a spot on the North shore. Possibly the best burger in town. Daytime menu was varied, delicious and surprisingly sophisticated for a pub.

Decent cocktail list, but not child friendly.

Food was good but a little pricy (compared to what Im used to).

Food was very good and portions were large. The staff could ve been a bit more accommodating. They stayed at the back of the bar majority of the time talking to each other on their phones.. But other than that, beautiful restaurant and delicious food!

Great Wednesday special - Gull Burger. Very friendly staff and good atmosphere

Where to start. Food was great, and the drinks were cold. Our server Jake was efficient and very welcoming. It made me feel like home. Would recommend to all family and friends!

A classic north shore pub. Although The Gull lost its world-class views before it lost the Rusty in its name the patio is still great. Great burgers, good selection of drinks and cocktails.

I can only speak to the lunchtime experience but the place was bright, clean, had a craveable brie and grilled onion burger, beers were delicious, waitress was excellent. Well be back! Kid-friendliness: We brought our kids and it was no issue. I dont think Id bring them in the evening though.

The Animal burger was pretty good, and the sauce was delicious, but personally, I would have liked it better if I came with some more toppings like mushrooms or bacon I think!

Ventured into The Gull for dinner tonight as a person new to the North Shote this was my first visit. Bestie provided us with exceptional service providing menu suggestions as well as answering my menu inquiries with great detail. The BOMBA shrimp are yo die for. Had I known they were as delicious as they were I might have just ordered two and a salad. However, my main course of Steak and Potatoes was equally delicious. The portions here are HUGE so bring your appetite. You definitely get your monies worth when you eat at The Gull. We ll definitely be back.

Pork belly appetizer was small and not worth the price. Steak was very fatty. Not impressed. Unfortunately we wont be returning.

Fabulous dinner at The Gull the other night! Our server was awesome! Made me a delicious classic espresso martini and our group loved our food! We ordered burgers and fries, steak and a superb burrata and tomato and fruit salad to start! The ambiance was just lovely and we highly recommend this as a must try spot in North Van!

Great little venue to meet up with friends. The front patio is a parklet with a few barstool seats and flower boxes and the back patio is on the second floor almost like a rooftop vibe. Happy hour was -$2 off most things on the menu, a good pick!

Great discovery, we feel cut off from North Vancouver as if we were in the city. Very good food, the atmosphere is cozy, worth trying! I will go back to try the other dishes!!

Staff were attentive and friendly, food was great (we had the Greek rib dinner, pork belly, and prawns, and the birdie bar), and the atmosphere was exceptional. Family friendly entertainment and environment.

Great food and such a kind staff .

The best steak sandwich i have ever had. Very tender, perfectly cooked and the bread is to die for. I had it with fries and they are delicious as well. Service was great, very attentive staff. Nice place to hang out and very clean.

Disappointed! I have been hearing about how good the burgers were there for a while now, so I happen to be in the area and stopped to check them out. They were OK Not much love put into them and small portions usually I can t finish a burger and fries order at a restaurant, but this one left me hungry, especially for the price. One of the burgers was very pink in the middle and all around mushy... they ask you if you re ok with it medium, i assumed that meant that it was cooked to (safe) temperature. Are we even allowed to do that in Canada? Service was good but I have had way better burgers at pubs for less. I miss the Rusty Gull :(

The burger was amazing. Still thinking about the pork belly starter which was the star of the show for us. Highly recommend going here great vibe and service was flawless.

Very highly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, did not meet expectations at all. Positives: The interior is beautiful, and has a great atmosphere. The server we had was quite good and did her best to resolve. The Rusty drink was quite decent. Negatives: The Carpaccio is like having sliced roast beef with a bunch of shaker cheese on it. No one enjoyed this. The Gull Burger came out with the breads burned to a crisp. I would have been able to accept this if it didnt taste like burned food, and my dining partners burger was significantly less burned. Managed to get a new burger , which was not as burned, but was quite lumpy and the taste was just okay. I didnt think Gordon Ramsay burger in coq was that great, but I would much rather have that burger than the one here. Thank you to the server that did her best to make things right, and give us a discount due to the issue. _ My dining partners enjoyed their Gull burger and Animal Style burger, and the spicy fries. Unfortunately, in my personal opinion the dinner was underwhelming and I dont think it warrants a drive out to North Van.

Good ambient, best burgers!

We live close by and visit the Gull often. The staff are all friendly and attentive. The burger is awesome, but dont let that distract you from the rest of the menu, which is excellent!

I moved to Vancouver 30 years ago. I finally found the flavor of the Hamburger and Fries that I have been searching for. The American hamburger was exactly the flavor that I had going up in Quebec. The fries were exactly the flavor and texture that I wanted. Soft and not like the modern stiff fries. I will be going back again very soon Parking: Found street parking on St. Georges Ave, 1/2 block from restaurant.

The Gull burger is really yummy. Fries portion is huge but I found it very salty, so I would ask for no salt next time but overall its a really good place to try.

I went today based on reviews and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious, loved the atmosphere and the staff was so nice, friendly and on top of everything. It s going to be my new favorite place!

Great burgers!!

We went here on Tuesday night and it was Trivia night. That was something different and fun to do in a group. The staff was attentive and friendly. Food was not great but not bad either however the portion sizes were small. We ended up ordering more appetizers/snacks after dinner!! Vegetarian options: Not many vegetarian options, just two, Grain and thangs and potato gnocchi.

The Animal Burger is really good. Definitely one of the better burgers around and worth trying if in the area. All the food we had was yummy and the server was great, she was very attentive and friendly.

The atmosphere, the service, and the food are all incredible. The gull burger is one of (if not the best?) burger Ive had in my life, and the bomba prawns are perfection that I dream about. The cocktails are also carefully crafted, every ingredient in the bar and in the kitchen is fresh and exciting. Cannot recommend enough! They are great for accommodating reservations, but also walk-ins. It can get super busy on the weekend so put your name down early and you wont regret the wait. Vegetarian options: They offer so many vegetarian and vegan options -mains annd starters. Even as a non vegetarian they are interesting and flavourful and worth ordering

Wasn t impressed. I called to book a table but was told they couldn t reserve a table but we could walk-in. And when we did, we were told it was a 15 minute wait for a table or choose to sit at the bar, even though there were multiple empty tables in the entire hour we were there. Strange. Food was average. The only vegan dish was grains and thangs and was average.( I believe it is also gluten-free) . Fries were not spicy, and they re underwhelming as fries go but is a sizable quantity. Herb aioli is not vegan. Street parking is difficult to find but there is a public pay parking nearby.

Im going to say it. I hate that I like the new Gull. I miss the smoke wafting in, the dirty old men, the junkies carpet. I miss the music. But I did, I liked it there. Fantastic service. The Animal burger came highly recommended and it didnt disappoint. Thank you for not cooking the patty into a hockey puck. Nice and pink in the middle. The bloody way burgers are to be! Nice to see different beers on tap that changed from the last time I was there. Bravo. You guys did it!

Got the Gull burger and kale salad. The Gull burger was really good and definitely lives up to the hype. The side fries and kale salad were just OK which is why I took off one star.

Dont usually write a review but after finding this non descript place wanted to share. Great vibe and decor inside. Service was excellent and food spot on and tasty. Will definitely be back on their deck in the summer!

Cozy place for date night

One of my favourite restaurants on the north shore. Staff are great and everything ive had to eat has been fantastic, especially the burgers which are divineeee! Also have visited for Trivia a few times recently and have had a blast!

Excellent burger from in house ground beef!!

Not the cheapest but rare to find a restaurant that does a very good salad with a pretty decent burger, if not one of the best Ive tried in Vancouver. Service was spot on.

My husband enjoyed his burger and my Greens dish tasted nice but it was so small and so expensive. I would appreciate knowing how a cup of lentils and a few small bites of each veggie is worth $26? I see from other reviews it used to be $22 and people thought it wasnt worth it then either. A burger with brie and a plate overflowing with fries shouldnt be less than lentils. Lentils. For $26 the portion should be double. Im getting really tired of paying a premium for the one vegan dish on a menu when I cook at home and can guarantee that meal cost about $1.50 max to produce. My husband loved the burger but hell be back without me because theres no point I eat here.

FINALLY 20 Ounce pints at a fair price. $2 less during happy hours 3-5. All the drinks, good selection of wines and spirits. Attentive staff and great food portions. It would be nice to see a few more vegan options.

Chic neighborhood pub. high quality food with obviously farm-to-table taste. Their special was hickory chicken wings - these were the highlight of our meal! We enjoyed the Gull burger and Grains and Thangs. I d highly recommend adding chicken to the latter dish! Fun atmosphere. Kind staff. Food

The best restaurant in Vancouver

If I could give a 4.5 I would. We used to live a couple blocks up the hill. When this was The Rusty Gull. My husband and I had so many fun nights there! It was shut for renovations when we moved to Seattle but we are in the area for vacation and had to stop by to see whats changed. EVERYTHING. Wow. Gone are the days of people smoking on the back deck haha. (That was one part I didnt like about the old place) The new place is super nice. The staff were great. I jad the Grains and Thangs and was amazed by how good it was. My husbands burger was also delicious. Great cocktails, atmosphere was nice. I Would just let others know its not really a take youre kid(s) kind of place. We have an 11 month old and we wish we woulda went somewhere with highchairs. I would go back for a cocktails with my friends or a date night. But family dinners id do somewhere else.

The best low-key spot on the north shore. If you havent been, its literally taking years off your life. Go now. As an unbiased, unpaid review, stop thinking about it, youll be happier that you did Update: no changes, still a damn good spot to eat, bring a date, or go for drinks and food before going out.

Always amazing service here, whether at the bar or at a table. The food is awesome and we both always order a burger with fries. Keep in mind their burgers come a little pink (which my server told me) so I ordered mine well done. Overall the food and drink is great and I m always sad when I m craving it on a Sunday or Monday when they re closed

Best burger in town

This was my first time at this Bar in Vancouver and I loved it. My waiter was so kind to fix me mocktail that wasn t on there menu. Dietary restrictions: I m on a diet and I was able to eat there.

The food at the Gull is excellent. Weve been there many times and have never had a bad meal. I just wished they had a better beer selection. Not everyone enjoys hipster beers. At least they have Guinness.

You must try the burgers. They are to die for - the meat patties are ground in-house. Exquisite!!! The service is top notch! Our server knows what she is talking about and provided us with awesome recommendations. We had a wonderful time!

Good food and I really enjoyed the wine. Has a small cocktail list but a well-stocked bar. Limited off-sales available. Decor is a bit austere and it can be rather loud for conversation.

Friendly helpful staff that you can tell liked each other liked serving and cooking and bartending. The food was inventive and delicious . You could tell there were repeat customers that were used to going there often.did I mention the food was delicious?

Happy Hour and we were up for some fish n chips. The fish was real good. Not too busy and each time weve had a nice table to sit at. Table service was prompt. Not overly friendly, but good. Drinks tasty. Nice little local pub. Plenty of street parking. Previous visits the food was ok. This round the fish was good so weve upgraded from 3½ to 4 stars

Great little bar and restaurant! Food was absolutely top notch from their reasonably small menu, staff were lovely and friendly and the desserts were to die for! We went there as a couple of families totalling 8 with a minor too and would deffinitely reccomend! Vegetarian options: Some good options! But no veggie burger! Kid-friendliness: Happy to accept minors in before 10pm

Pub crawl

A nice and friendly place, only a short walk away from Lonsdale Quay. I stopped by here because it was busy elsewhere, and Im very glad that I did! The drinks selection was great, and the chicken burger was perfect; done exactly the way I like it. Also, the service was friendly and felt personalized. Ill come back here!

Great Bar about a 5 min walk from Burrard Dry dock. Cocktails were excellent. Pork belly nugz were incredible, highly recommend. The animal style and gull burger were both so good my gf and i had half of each! Loved the Bortier bros Rose, fantastic choice. Good vibe, great service, outdoor patio on the sidewalk as well as a second patio on the alleyside. Highly recommend for a more relaxed occasion. Great date night location.

The Gull is a fantastic place to be with friend and family, the decorations and comfort level is good, however, the reason to be there is the delicious food and the mesmerizing service.. the staff is unbelievably friendly.

Have been at this place every Tuesday for trivia night for the past few weeks as I am only visiting friends in the area. I have only had the Animal burger each time. I had tried their ginger beer which is ok, but not my favorite. Not much of a drinker so I cannot comment on the brewskies being served. Service seemed to be good for the amount of people in the pub at the time frame that we were there. A long walk to the washroom but it was somewhat clean.

The Gull is hands down the best restaurant on the North Shore. The staff are knowledgeable, funny, friendly, and welcoming. The food is always A+ and the drinks are spectacular. Its always a treat to be at the Gull.

We had our wedding reception here, and I would absolutely recommend it for anyone that is looking for a great low-key spot! Phil and the rest of the staff are super friendly and really take care of you, the chef put on an incredible family-style meal (the guests didnt stop coming up to us talking about how good the food was), and it is a great space for dinner and for dancing!

Best burger I have had for some time. Very pleasant waitress and the barman was kind enough to give us some empty boxes for moving.

Earlier this year we started going to the Gull for Trivia night on Tuesdays and it has become one of the highlights of our week! The food is great (order the burgers!!) and the staff is always very attentive and friendly! They have a great selection of local beers and always have something new on special! Shout out to Betsie for being the best Trivia host in the neighborhood!

I went there at the recommendation of a friend who said it was the best burger in the Vancouver area, and the Gull Burger I tried this time was definitely a very delicious burger. Next time I would like to try Animal style.
