Burgoo Bistro Lonsdale in North Vancouver

I had an amazing experience at Burgoo! Carsen was absolutely the best waiter attentive, kind, and such a pleasure to interact with. The restaurant is lucky to have him on their team. The atmosphere is incredibly cozy, yet it still accommodates a good number of people without feeling cramped. Our group shared the Lobster Mac and Cheese, Kale Caesar Salad, and the Grilled Cheese, and every dish was absolutely delicious. Carsen even introduced us to the restaurants cookbook, which we ended up purchasing! I will absolutely be coming back great food, great service, and a fantastic overall experience! Highly recommend.

Hadnt been back in a while. First time beef bourg was drowning in thyme, all I could taste. A few years later, their mushroom soup again is drowning in thyme, chunks of it in my mouth. Sandwiches are greasy and not that great.

The go to place cor comfort food!!

Poor service, small portion. There s also no fries here! We waited for so long to have the server talk to us for the first time and then waited half an hour for our food, which was just 2 sandwiches. My sandwich was cold when it came out. Had to wait a long time to get our bill after asking for it. I lost so much daylight that I wanted to spend at the Christmas market instead. You re better off eating at the nearby restaurants and spend your money elsewhere.

The After School Special is my favorite especially during a cold winters day!

Always get the same thing. Dos diablos and the crab bisque. This location serves the lobster bisque just as yummy.

The food blew my mind! The different flavors of each dish were phenomenal. The service was friendly and she was very helpful. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The fireplace is a wonderful touch. This place is the perfect place for comfort food and to just relax and have conversations with whomever you go with. Wish I could give this place a higher level of stars!!

I really like this place. Great service. Friendly and helpful employees. I took their recommendation for dinner and it was spot on. Good food. I went around 530 and it wasn t overly busy. Not too loud. Nice and cozy.

We had the best time here a couple of weeks ago! The food was as described by our server. The portions were a good size and it was served promptly. Clean bathrooms which is important!

Came here for lunch with family. The ambience feels like you are in the living room of someone s house. I can just imagine this space during winter with the fire place going would be awesome. The drinks were excellent, service prompt. We tried the fonduemental which was excellent along with , beef bourignion, the veg burgoo and excellent french onion soup. I came here last Friday night for dinner with my boyfriend. We were at the Shipyards night market and wanted to stop and get a quick bite even though we already ate at the food trucks. We shared a sandwich and salad and got two drinks. Our server who I assumed was the manager cause she was bartending and dressed different than the other servers took our order and dropped off our food. After that we NEVER saw her again. She never quality checked us, offered us refills on our drinks. It was not busy. Whatever. We waited OVER half an hour to get the bill. I had my card out on the table and our server kept her head down when passing us and went to attend larger tables . I couldn t help but feel because we shared a meal our table wasn t worth serving. I always tip standard even when the service is bad. This is the first time I tipped 10%. Looking back I shouldn t have left anything at all. I had to get up off my seat and go to the bar and ask another server for my bill. Very disappointed.

Best Mac n Cheese in North Vancouver.

I came in last weekend for a birthday lunch with my Grandma and we really enjoyed our experience! My Grandma is hard of hearing and this means she usually can t enjoy going out to restaurants because it s too loud. We asked to be seated in a quiet area and they sat us away from everyone and even turned the music down. The waitress was amazing as well and spoke very clearly so my Grandma could understand everything she was saying. Overall it was a really lovely experience, me and my Grandma had a blast being able to chat and laugh together, and I wanna say thank you for making it happen!

Been coming here for a long time. Staff have always been great warm and accommodating. Paula the manager works her butt off but always makes time to make me feel like I m important.Gary is one of the best servers I ve ever seen (I have 25 years in the industry) I should have left a review long ago

We live far from this restaurant but it was on my to go places for so long. We loved it here. Great food. The corn ribs were mind-blowing. The blonde waitress was so friendly and professional. Sorry, I didnt catch her name.

Figured if Im going to drive all the way to North Vancouver and engage in Mad Max battles over free parking may as well stuff myself with good food. And did. Service was friendly, attentive and quick. I enjoyed the soup and bread, a dark and stormy, and the fondue. Seriously, cannot go wrong with the fondue...just so good. Bread, grapes, tomato, apple so delicious. Lactose intolerant? Take an enzyme pill; just cant resist a good cheese fondue. Drink was spicy and delicious and satisfied with the whole meal. Lots of great options here.

We ordered Herb biscuits (5/5), Gooey Cheese Grillers (4.5/5), French Onion Soup (5/5) and Apple Crumble dessert (3.5/5) and they were mostly good. What stood out more than the food was honestly the service. The tall gentleman with specs greeted us with a beautiful smile and was lovely to talk to. He was just a natural with his conversation and his job! They made our first experience at this location beautiful. We would love to come back. Ambience is a 5/5 too!

Updated for 2023 Still one of the best restaurants in the world. Some minor changes to the menu have streamlined the food offerings but it is still a place where you can get a reasonably priced dose of comfort food that will leave you smiling and satisfied. Staff are friendly and remember you and your preferences, a rare trait these days. Put this on your list of places to visit. Possibly one of my favourite restaurants in the world. Such comforting food and always a friendly welcome. The sandwiches and soups cant be beaten.

French onion soup and cheese grillers are my go-to if I want soul food. The Beef Bourguignon is good, too. Ive tried a few of their options and have enjoyed all of it. They do comfort foods really well. They used to offer mead, and I wish they would bring it back.

This place is so good. Came in because I was craving soup and I was blown away. Best soup ever. I can t wait to come back and try every flavour of soup. Also ended up having the chocolate mousse for dessert and it was delicious. Highly recommend!

I came here a few weeks ago with a friend as I was told the food was really good. We ordered the chicken wings which seemed pretty pricey (16.50) but sounded delicious. When it arrived, we only got 6 wings to split between 2 of us Luckily our server recommended us to upgrade our sandwich with the soup otherwise we would have left still hungry. The service was great, but our bill seemed quite high considering we weren t drinking. Not sure if I ll be back.

Nice location, cosy interior, good soups and deserts. Main course tasteless, simple, small sizes, cheap (not worthy the price). In general there was a disgusting smell in the bistro (sewage).

Fantastic first meal experience in Vancouver. Gary was extremely welcoming and gave brilliant drink recommendations. The food was deliciously wholesome, well timed and much needed after the commute from Rosebud, Victoria, Australia.

It s never fun leaving a low review for a local restaurant, but i felt this one was necessary especially after reading all the amazing, yet misleading reviews. We arrived at the restaurant, without reservations so expecting to wait. We had an approx 20 minute wait, while noticing one table open; figured it was for a reservation. The host finally noticed it was open and sat us after around 20 minutes. The server came over and it felt like it was her first day serving She walked past our empty water jug 3 times before we had to ask for a refill. We asked about an item on the menu is the chicken on this grilled or breaded? her response was uhh its not grilled, but idk what it is we were confused but figured ok, well it must be breaded/fried or something? she didn t find out. We then got the item and it was in fact sliced grilled chicken. We were confused, but left it alone. We asked for 2 items to come as appies and 1 of 2 came and the other came at time of main course. The 1 appy that did arrive was nearly frozen it was so cold. The server avoided our table, did not ask how everything was throughout the entire visit, even when we paid. Our main courses were all below average, tasted like pre-made sandwiches lacking flavour and quality. Although these items took a long time to come out, they weren t as expected. The chips were also stale. We also ordered a non alcoholic cocktail and was told that one was unavailable tonight, but just before we left we saw one leaving the bar and heading to another table. The whole experience was confusing and disappointing, especially since we had a good experience before in the summer, but seems those items/quality are no longer there. This whole experience will unfortunately be our last time at Burgoo: I highly recommend reading the bad reviews over the good reviews before dining here.

It was a pleasant meal. I was satisfied with the very friendly staff and delicious food.

Came here with my family on Sunday for lunch. We got seated at our table, got our menu, we were all ready to order within 5 minutes. The server didnt come back to our table until 15 minutes later. When she finally took our order and our food was dropped off at our table, she didnt come check on us until another 20 minutes later, and she only did it once. I wouldnt complain if this were the case with all the other tables, but she generally chatted up every table but ours. Which again, doesnt matter, maybe its because we are Asian and the other tables were not. What did matter was when it came down to us finishing our food, I kept trying to wave down our server, but she refused to look over at our table once (while happily catering to all the other customers multiple times). The lady bartending/ other server eventually asked if she can start cleaning our table up, in which I said yes please, and I asked if we can have some takeout boxes for our leftovers. She said for sure and never came back with the takeout boxes. Later on, Im sure she did remember because we made eye contact, but she refused to come back to our table. It was not until our server walked by the 7th time without acknowledging our table that I said out loud as she walked by can we get some service?! that she finally acknowledged me. She eventually came back with our boxes and bill, but not before she has a conversation with the bartender while looking over at our table. I love Burgoo, and frankly, the food was great. I made the trip all the way to Lonsdale from New Westminster to eat at the location. But after that service (which extended our stay more than necessary by more than 25 minutes) I will not be returning.

The food is great if you are luckily enough to receive the correct order. Consistently receiving the wrong items or missing items through delivery. Was looking forward to eating the FAB salad tonight for $20. Only to receive two cups of lettuce, one cherry tomato and a few slices of cucumber and pickled onions. Very disappointed again

It has a cozy, quaint ambience. We loved the beef bourguignon and tasty chicken sandwich. The drinks were faultless.The staff was a tad stretched on a sunny Saturday afternoon but did not fall short on service.

Stopped in uncertain of everything- Id never heard of it or been to one before. It was pretty cozy and the staff were really friendly- immediately. The food Id ordered was pretty simple fare but I have to say it was really good. I basically got the mac and cheese, their version of a grilled cheese (best Ive ever had- with the chorizo option) and a dessert. Pro tip: If you get their peach dessert ask for a second scoop of ice cream on the side. Just trust me on that one. Youre welcome :D

Lower Lonsdale of Vancouver city,if you want to go you should take a ferry from Vancouver Harbor. This is a very cute bistro, the food is delicious, the atmosphere is nice, and its a nice place to spend a leisurely afternoon on your day off. I have visited several times and have always been welcomed by the hospitable staff, and I think it is the perfect place to spend your holidays in Vancouver. Japanese people who stay in overseas are concerned that the cost of food may be high because the exchange rate is currently depreciating, but this shop is not.

Update your menus. No surprise they re out of date, but several menu favourites are now gone. Had a lackadaisical beer there there the other day (Stolen Bike is inexplicably gone, replaced by some forgettable weak light beer) and all my personal favourites are gone from the menu. Honestly, at one point in the restaurant s history they had a sandwich called the Tastiest Chicken Sandwich . Then they lost their best consistent chef (Teresa) and replaced it with the Tasty Chicken Sandwich , which was a HUH? moment for me. Eventually they improved it to the Tastier Chicken Sandwich , which was almost the same as the original, and now they ve replaced it with the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich, which I wouldn t even CONSIDER ordering! The pot pie is gone, everything I like is gone, and for me personally, I have no reason to go in anymore. Too bad, I know everything ends, but I was hoping this one would last forever. Burgoo has lost its comfort feel. It s just another place that I feel will be another statistic in North Van in two years.

These stars are generous. We were undecided on food yet as we had just sat down. Our server came near right away so said she would be back in 2 minutes, which then turned into 18 minutes (yes, I understand servers get busy as I work in the industry). We had to go find her. But, couldn t so another server came to take our order for her. We got our drinks. $5 gin and tonic (sweet deal) but it was missing the lime wedge. I ordered the chicken Parmesan burger. My partner the barbecue pork burger. And we shared the ribs. If I have one good thing to say about the food, the ribs were flavourful and tender. The burgers however were not. The chicken Parmesan consisted of a soggy breaded (cold) chicken breast nestled in a dry brioche bun. My partners was average at best, also with a dry bun . Our server continued to disappear and didn t check on how we were doing or how the food was and now I see why. I would not recommend this place unless you like to throw money away on dry, flavourless burgers and terrible service.

Its been years since we were last there, and were pleasantly surprised to find that the food was just as delicious as we remembered it to be.

I tried to make a reservation for an important family event. I explained that my partner s mom has mobility issues and can t stand and wait. I was told they messed up and accidentally booked a table of seven. I asked to speak to the manager (who was right by the phone) to explain the situation but she refused to speak with me. Horrible service. Very disappointed.

Everything we had here was amazing. The table agreed the guacamole was the best we ever had. Bacon marmalade with buisuits were delicious and all our main entrees were great. We really enjoyed our supper here with a couple people from our table expressing this is their new favorite restaurant. Thanks for the wonderful evening!

We came in at 6pm on a weekday with no wait. Excellent service. I had the after school special which was AMAZING. perfect bite to the grilled cheese and the tomato soup had a nice sour bite- just the way I love it. My partner loved the pulled pork sandwich as well. The pickle was a treat. I had the happy house white wine . I think next time I will go with their menu drinks or non alcoholic drinks. Not bad at all! Ordered off Uber eats and got the mac and cheese, ratatouille and olives. The mac was honestly kind of bland and mushy. The ratatouille was pretty good very flavourful and the olives were lovely. Overall a good place would probably order again! Would love to come dine in sometime.

Very nice experience we managed to get a table for two on a Saturday night comfort food at its best.. Beef bourguignon and a turkey dinner only reason for the four stars is staff taking away a plate whilst the other is still eating this has happened a couple of times in Canada and does show efficient staff, but I prefer waiting until everyone on the table has finished before dishes are cleared .did not ruin though a good evening, and the bistro is recommended

Disgusting!!! That is the word I would use to summarize my experience of this restaurant. From the food to the customer service, this restaurant was a major let down in every possible way. I recently visited the Burgoo Bistro restaurant at Lonsdale with my family. Prior to eating at the restaurant my family had looked at the menus of many restaurants in the area. The waitress who talked to us at the time explained that they were having a thanksgiving special that she said was absolutely delicious!!! After deliberating about where to eat we decided on the Burgoo restaurant, and returned later in the evening. We were seated inside the restaurant (instead of on the patio), and only a few minutes later we were approached by the waiter (different than the one we had spoken to earlier in the day), who asked abruptly what we would like to order. We asked for a few extra minutes to look over the menu, but before leaving the waiter told us about the thanksgiving special. Out of the 4 people at our table, 3 ended up ordering the special. 5 minutes after we had ordered our food it was delivered to the table. Everything listed above in the special was thrown into a bowl all together. Not long after we started trying the food we were approached by the waitress we had seen earlier in the day, who informed us that because of the lack of customers our waiter from that evening had been sent home. Not once were we asked how the food was. Once we had finally had a chance to taste all of the food on our plates we all realized the turkey was tasteless, tough, and honestly appeared to be questionable as to if it really was turkey at all. Not only was the turkey disappointing but the stuffing was cold as if it had been sat in the fridge. Not once over the next 15 minutes were we approached by any staff, including the waitress that had now been assigned to our table, to see if we were satisfied with the food. By this time we had eaten only the few vegetables and mash potatoes, leaving the turkey and stuffing which was about half of our plates. The waitress finally returned to the table and we expressed our concerns about the food. We were then rudely questioned as to why we hadn t told her this prior to now which created a very awkward and negative atmosphere. After she had cleared all the plates off of our table she came back and said she could offer a free dessert as compensation for us not enjoying the turkey. Everyone at the table reluctantly ordered a dessert and she made a point to loudly announce that only the people who had ordered the turkey could get a free dessert, almost implying that the 4th member of our group was trying to get something for free. Once the desserts arrived, all of which were in a jar, both people who had ordered the peach Brown Betty said it tasted like warmed up canned peaches with cut up bread on top of it. The other too desserts were extremely cold as if they had been sat in a fridge or maybe even a freezer. The cheesecake tasted mostly of cream, and the chocolate mousse was bland. None of us finished our desserts and when the waitresses returned to clear away the remainder we didn t bring up anything about the desserts as we were fearful of how she would respond. By this point we just wanted to pay and get out of the restaurant. We were charged full price for all mains and the one dessert. After around 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant we had to rush back to our accommodation as we were feeling physically sick to our stomachs. I am no doctor; however, I believe all members of my family experience food poisoning from eating at Burgoo that evening. To conclude this was a massive waste of money and time as we had to spend the rest of our nights in the bathroom. Do not go here unless you want to risk feel physically sick! I can confidently say that this food was not something we were at all thankful for, and if I am being very honest I wouldn t even give it to my dog as I fear it would make him sick also. Do not waste your money on this food and terrible customer service!

WARNING!! Do not eat here. The food is disgusting and left several of our party with severe stomach pains, sickness and diahhrea. We believe this was the result of eating the turkey stew, which was tasteless and contained meat that tasted nothing like turkey. When we spoke with the server about our concerns they were quite dismissive and said they could only offer free dessert to compensate for this.

Went to burgoo recently for lunch and was really disappointed, it has changed a lot since my last visit. I really enjoyed the food but something was lacking with the atmosphere and service. The server for our table was lovely but I did not like the way the manager was speaking to the severs and I noticed a lot of the staff were on edge and it effected our experience overall.

Fabulous food

The chef really knows how to make a good french onion soup, the beef broth and the melted cheese tasted amazing together. Not to mention the great salads, the bistro salad is so good, even though there is a-lot of quinoa the salad still tasted amazing.

3 times a week since I arrived in Vancouver,, this is the closest thing to a true pub. Great menu, outstanding service, Gary the barman( even if he is an Oilers fan) and Paula the manager make you feel truly welcome. Like a Halifax kitchen party , but on the other coast.

For my elderly mother, a bit too loud and cold, but she put on her coat and was very happy with the food. Everything was freshly made, including the puff pastry and buns. I had the pork sandwich and mushroom soup, the soup was delicious and homemade. My mother had a deconstructed chicken pot pie, the chicken was was well prepared and not dry. She liked the turnip, and has a reputation for not liking turnip from having to eat it during World War II. Would definitely come again! Dietary restrictions: Can ask for minimal salt

the beef bourginon was disgusting. the chef thinks its proper to dump a handful of crispy bacon on top of the dish. i think every dead french person is rolling in their graves. for shame!!!

I think we should call the dish Beef Bourguignon some thing like mushroom and carrots Bourguignon .

Food was great. Drinks were watered down. Ice tea tasted like flavoured water. The strong strawberry was so sour to the point is was undrinkable but since the drinks are watered down after a couple mins it was drinkable but not drinkable enough to order it again. Would recommend going for the food not a place to drink at.

First time visiting this burgoo and fell in Love their chicken pot pie. Their ambiance, customer service, and everything in between!!!

Feature soup and a Cubano sandwich

It s easy to see why Burgoo is such a Vancouver staple. Their food is always unreal. Most recently I got the Mushroom Medley soup with the Bistro salad and it was the perfect Sunday lunch. In the past I ve also had the Chicken Pot Pie and Beef Bourguignon and they are both incredible. Highly recommend both. This Burgoo establishment also had really friendly staff.

Fantastic meal. Service was awesome. Would highly recommend this to anyone who would like to go.

Surprisingly yummy Unique menu with detailed food

This is by far my favorite place to go for a soup and sandwhich. The location is also perfect for an after lunch walk ! I have always had a lovely meal here, and the service is always on point.

This restaurant was an excellent find; the food and the service were outstanding.

Definition of comfort food and definitely will hit the spot! Had wings for appy which were eaten too quickly! We also had the El Camino - a pulled pork sandwich served with potato chips on the side; as well as the infamous Mac n Cheese - get it with carnitas for an extra $3 but totally worth it! 100% would recommend!

A very enjoyable dining experience. We sat inside and I enjoyed a very delicious pot pie.

The food was great! The chicken pie was delicious but has a rosemary that I dont like. If you are sensitive about taste and spices, ask them for ingredients. Amazing staff with happy faces, respectful and organized! Lisa, if I heard her name correctly,was an amazing host with a great smile! Try it and enjoy

!!!Not worth the price you pay!!! I went with my family. We each had a soup to start. Some chips and dip as well as a couple of beers. The main courses were overpriced and not the best quality. Our bill ended up being over $150 for mediocre food. The tomato soup was pretty good. It was served with a very small piece of bread and I mean TINY. When I asked for a couple more pieces they charged us $1.50 for each LOL. We also had chips and dip. They charged us extra to bring more pieces of chips. $1 for 5 extra pieces!! I think thats a cheap move for any restraunt. Especially one thats such a casual dining space. The service was slow as well. They were nice but very forgetful. They do not offer draught beer only cans. So if youre really a beer fan I would not recommend. Overall I did not have an enjoyable experience. I give one star because food and service were both below-standard. The location is convenient and the space is cute but If youre a foodie avoid this place.

The food was delicious, best mini Mac and cheese and mini mashed potatoes ever! Plus the view is wonderful too!

Went here with friends for supper. Good food, terrible portions, long wait time, poor service. I ordered a tasty chicken sandwich, which was fine. The portion was okay though I cant help but wonder why they cant serve it with more than 12 kettle chips as a side. Some of my friends wanted chicken wings, after ordering discovered they paid $16 for 6 wings which was ridiculous. Waitress didnt see us other than taking our initial order and bringing the food 45+mins later. The kicker was they werent even busy, I cant imagine what it would be like on a busy night.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a stranger. The food was amazing we ordered Mac & Cheese and a Grilled Sandwich, and both were amazing. You should try this place out (near the sea bus) and also, ask random people about their favorite restaurants!

OMG my FIRST visit to Burgoo and I enjoyed the FRENCH ONION soup without a doubt. The Server, Paris, was most Friendly and with a Personality Plus. Thanks Burgoo for making my Day!

It was a good restaurant, great location and good service. The menu has very limited vegetarian options and overall it wasn t an exciting menu. Other than that everything was good.

Cozy place best place for a sandwich and soup type of meal

What a great concept: amazing comfort food, great service and chill environment! First time visiting Burgoo and will make a regular occurrence to try more of the great menu offerings!

A place that you may need help from the server to understand items on the menu, because it includes food s from different parts of the world. Foods are good, prices are reasonable and service is nice.

We got a Cubano and grilled cheese with tomato soup, all of it was fantastic. Genuinely the best Cubano Ive ever had.

Great rotating menu with solid staple items. Desserts are always amazing.

Food is pretty good but I am giving 5 stars because of the service. The girl at the front was friendly, but our server was extraordinary. Gary was an amazing waiter and I have not had such an awesome server in a long time. In todays day and age, it is expected for people to tip their waiters no matter what, so 90% of waiters do the bare minimum or treat you like garbage and expect things in return. Nevertheless, Gary was extremely personable, friendly, and funny from the moment we sat down until we left. Environment is also very comforting.

The staff are very welcoming, ordering and serving food quickly. The food is appetizing just by looking at it, and of course it s very delicious ! Will come often!

Lunch was absolutely delicious. Staff was very attentive. Parking: Unfortunately, street parking is very scarce and the parking garage isnt very convenient for disabled patrons. Especially for those that use mobility devices that arent electrical. If you dont have assistance, the entire lower Lonsdale area is difficult to navigate. Wheelchair accessibility: Without the use of motorized equipment or someone to help, trying to park and get anywhere can be an excruciating experience. This has naught to do with the establishments in the area.

Had a good time sitting at the bar and having a fee different smaller dishes. Quiet night and the bartender was great. Enjoyed our time and the overall price was very reasonable. Good place for comfort food on a cold Dec night.

The food is kinda like fast food disguised as restaurant food, only decent due to the amount of butter and salt they add to it. Sad how far burgoo has fallen :( the fondue was pretty funny, a bunch of cold plain bread cubes and a couple grapes and tomatoes and apple chunks on a plate - do not recommend.

the meal was nice,but the crab soup is too smell I think,maybe its not my style. but beef Bourguignon tasted really good. Food
