Homey, family-operated restaurant offering handmade pasta, Italian-style fare & a seasonal garden.
Orto Artisan Pasta: A North Vancouver Culinary Gem 🍝✨ After bookmarking Orto Artisan Pasta for years, I finally indulged in a delightful lunch before exploring North Vancouver. The cozy ambiance and attentive staff made for a welcoming experience. I savored the Pappardelle Bolognese and Squid Ink Spaghetti with scallops, prawns, garlic, and white wine. Both dishes were exquisite, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to authentic Italian flavors. This charming eatery is a must-visit for pasta enthusiasts. I eagerly anticipate my next visit to further explore their menu.
We recently dined here with a larger group and I have to say it was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in the city in a long time. The food was absolutely delicious and the service from Sam was exceptional. He is a true hospitality professional. The whole group kept commenting how perfect everything was all night. We shared a few different appetizers (the Pear and Gorgonzola tart was life changing), pastas and finished with a selection of incredible desserts. The spread they put on for a group was not only delicious but also excellent value.
Orto is a delightful restaurant that truly deserves its five-star reputation. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor is modern yet cozy, making it an ideal spot for both intimate dinners and casual gatherings. We arrived during the opening hours, which allowed us to enjoy the space without the hustle and bustle that often comes later in the evening. The service at Orto was exceptional. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, providing us with insightful recommendations that showcased the restaurant’s commitment to quality. Each dish we ordered was a masterpiece, reflecting the chef's dedication to using fresh, local ingredients. The presentation was stunning, and every bite was a celebration of flavor. One standout dish was the bolognese which was perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of seasoning. The accompanying Ceasar salad was vibrant and added a delightful crunch. Another highlight was the grilled calamari, which was tender and infused with a beautiful flavor that complemented the dish beautifully. Each plate was thoughtfully crafted, demonstrating not only culinary skill but also a passion for the art of cooking. The location of Orto is another significant advantage. Nestled in a charming area, it’s easily accessible yet feels like a hidden gem. While parking can be a bit challenging, it’s worth the effort to experience the culinary delights that await inside. The ambiance is relaxed, making it a great place to unwind and enjoy a meal without feeling rushed. While dining, it was noticeable that the clientele shared a similar background, creating a unique community feel within the restaurant. This added to the overall experience, as it fostered a sense of connection among the guests. However, the atmosphere remained inclusive and welcoming to everyone. Overall, Orto is a restaurant that excels in every aspect. The combination of outstanding dishes, impeccable service, and a pleasant environment makes it a must-visit. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, this restaurant is sure to leave a lasting impression. I highly recommend making a reservation, as it’s bound to become a popular spot once word gets out about its incredible offerings. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a dining experience that combines exquisite food with exceptional service, Orto is the place to be. From the moment you step through the door until the last bite of dessert, you are treated to a culinary journey that is both memorable and satisfying. We left with full bellies and happy hearts, eager to return and explore more of what this fantastic restaurant has to offer.
This was a great experience. Our friends have told us about this place for a couple of months, describing the venue, the quality of the food and the beautiful garden atmosphere. We finally found a time to visit and we were not disappointed. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a nice summer night so we had to sit inside but it was still awesome. Eclectic, fresh, great atmosphere and our server was funny, witty and engaging. I wish I’d asked her name but I will next time I go back, which is a guarantee!! The food was excellent! Rich, fresh….you could tell there was thought put into each dish & the process. I felt like I had stumbled across an incredible little restaurant in a small Italian village. To find a gem like this in North Van is amazing. I’ll be back again and again. Top picks: calamari, Caesar salad, squid ink seafood pasta, gnocchi & tiramisu. Not to mention how reasonable the prices are. Four of us had appetizers, 4 mains and two desserts, including a bottle of wine and our bill was $150 per couple, including tip.
Lovey restaurant, the patio is beautiful, especially in the summertime full of greenery. The appetizers were so good and filling that we barely had room for the mains. The pasta was so fresh that every bite was a power bomb.
What a lovely place. All local ingredients and freshly made food. Service was perfect and quick. Definitely want to make a reservation but absolutely worth it. Went for our anniversary and had a wonderful time.
Very cute place with a great atmosphere. The staff were super friendly and service was quick. Came for dinner and we ordered the duck leg special and the mushroom Alfredo pasta, with a glass of prosecco. Both were delicious and will definitely be back to try other items.
We weren’t aware that pre-booking was required, however, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, Brigitte. Thank you, Brigitte, for your hospitality! The restaurant has a cozy indoor seating and a beautiful garden-style outdoor patio, which is simply amazing. While there was a small hiccup with our order, the overall charm of the place, the delicious food, and the friendliness of the owner and the staff, more than made up for it. A lovely restaurant with fantastic food and great staff. Highly recommended!
Everything was really good, and Waitresses were very friendly.
We had such a lovely time at your restaurant yesterday. The food was the best I have had in a very long time and I am really looking forward to coming again!
Amazing food and amazing service. Lindsey was a fantastic server and made our experience really enjoyable. Will be coming back!! Thank you Orto :)
I had an awful experience at this restaurant. I dined for lunch with my Indian friend, we are both BIPOC. We were addressed quite rudely by the waiter who then proceeded to ignore us and serve several others. His demeanour to the white people he served was completely different to us and we were left sitting for 30 mins with no drink or food order, they were not overly busy. The manager eventually served us but was fairly unfriendly, this was the worst and only racist experience I have ever had in Vancouver and reminded me of the bad old days of the 70s, 80s early 90s in the UK. This happened just over a year ago and I have never returned to this establishment and discouraged friends and family from going there.
Another great meal at Orto. After dining there several times, we tested lunch and were equally happy. The pasta dishes really feel like high quality cuisine and refinement, in a casual setting. And a very friendly and professional service! I am recommend this place to all my friends.
We visited Orto Artisan Pasta last week for the first time. This little place has received rave reviews for its relaxing garden terrace. Yet even on a drizzly October afternoon, the interior space is cozy and welcoming. Orto strikes a nice balance between elegant cuisine and comfy charm. Not many lunch menus offer so many imaginative and carefully prepared dishes. The atmosphere is friendly, the prices reasonable, and the service personal and attentive. Our lunchtime conversation was eclipsed by constant comments on how delicious everything tasted. A satisfying meal, in every way. We ll be back.
Always an amazing place for a fabulous meal!
Awesome
2 years later-post covid--went again--every aspect as great as befoe-- interactions with Madame particulary welcoming! Totally love this place! exquisite food, afternoon or evening -- lovely homey but sophisticated layout/style, even if tucked in just south of Marine Drive near Cap Mall. Rapid, meticulous service-- owner is very much on top of the whole operation, real sense of immediacy and personal attention. cant wait to go back! The tomato tart is to die for!! prices reasonable and great value for money!
A favourite for authentic pasta on the north shore. Pasta is always fresh and small menu means the items have been perfected. Love sitting in their garden during summer months.
Beautiful lunch followed by a delicious takeaway dinner with friends. Truly a jewel in the dining world
So glad we finally went after years of hearing about it. Wonderful service, beautiful food and great value. Best restaurant in North Van!
If youre on the North Shore, be sure to check it out
The restaurants backyard and garden tables are amazing. We enjoyed a great Italian style dinner for 3 couples. Service was excellent and the inhouse crafted pastas were enjoyed by all of us. Good portions and food prices so well return...especially for their once a month French menu which Im told theyre going to feature as the Owner used to operate Regalade French Restaurant in West Vancouver which was my very favorite restaurant in all of Vancouver!
High quality food, would recommend to anyone.
My god, what can I say about this restaurant, its simply delicious, exquisite, the cuisine deserves an Oscar
Truly authentic Italian! LOVVED this restaurant. At first appearance you may wonder, but dont be swayed, the food is FANTASTIC! Highly recommend the beef carpaccio! Parking: Street parking is limited, but theres free underground parking across the street
A very unique restaurant, the food is freshly made, very fresh and delicious . The service is very good and worth recommending
3 seniors were lucky this time to be waited by the witty Madam herself at our table. I told her that all the food was more than impeccable -- Caprese Heirloom tomato salad, Burrata, pesto; Our daily lunch trio; Fusilli with chicken, chorizo, pesto rosso; and Papardelle Bolognese. I tasted all and they were DELICOUS! They get their fresh bread from next door Bad Dog Bakery, and it is soo fresh. I recommended the restaurant to all my foodie friends, and will bring out-of-town visitors here.
Went to this quaint place for lunch. I truly appreciate small business gems and they are harder to find in the time of Instagram. It has a home-nonna feel with their mismatched floral plates and quirky decor. It did feel a bit cluttered, there were a lot of random chairs and various things around that took away from the atmosphere. The patio looks like it is channeling Secret Garden and had it been a nicer day, I would have loved to sit there. I realise the weather has not been ideal this August but we sat inside and it was freezing because the door to the patio was open. Also patrons continued to leave the front door open as well. This wasnt a cold girl thing, my partner was also cold. The Bread, butter and olive spread was good. The carmelised onion butter tasted exactly as it sounds and the Bad Dog bread is heavenly. Thank goodness we ordered that because the portions we received were small, even for my demure appetite. I have had my eye on this place for a year to visit and the photos that are in reviews show noticeable larger portions than we received. For pastas, carbonara and their special spaghetti pomodoro with burrata were ordered. The carbonara flavours were there but the portion was maybe a cup of tagliolini. The spaghetti pomodoro was also good and tasted garden fresh, but more tomatoes could have been used and the burrata on top was about 1/4 cup. The lunch rang up at around 65.00. Im willing to pay for quality and do feel that the ingredients are quality, but the prices are high for what you get. $24.00 for carbonara and $30.00 for the pasta pomodoro is a bit steep, especially for lunch size portions. I would like to try this place again for dinner and give it a holisitic try with drinks, appetizers, entrees and dessert and re-evaluate. As it stands now, there is a lot of potential but I feel like some improvements could be made to compliment the prices. Parking: There is limited on street parking that is free and there are a ton of restrictions to keep an eye out for the signage. The paid parking lot is across the street but it is pricey. Wheelchair accessibility: It is a cramped place, might be the most accomodating
another excellent dinner with my wife. Great to have conversations with the couples on either side of us. Very friendly restaurant with a different take on Italian food.
AMAZING dining experience! Highly recommend visiting Orto! Staff were SUPER efficient and personable. Food : 5/5
This is the secret garden you have been waiting for! Great food, great service and sitting outside in the garden on a beautiful summer evening makes you forget that you are actually sitting in a parking lot. Splendid! Creative! Go check it out!
Dont be in a rush when you come here. Enjoy the lovely garden in all its glory (obviously season dependent!), it feels like a taste of European al fresco dining at its best. Food is delicious and fresh. Local bakery next door makes the best bread in the city, a nice starter if youre really hungry when you first arrive. Otherwise save room for the tomato tart tartin and whatever delicious special pasta they have on for the night! Its always a winner.
The atmosphere and food is so wonderful and relaxing.
We went with friends from OOT. We shared the black dog bread, a bottle of the house chianti. We split to appetizers - the ceviche and the eggplant parmigiana. We each had a main - squid pasta, the house special with lobster and a vegetarian pasta. All the applies and mains were very nice portions, prepared to perfection and delicious. We ended the meal splitting Tiramisu and the lemon tart. Yummy!! Service was great, helpful and attentive. The other joy was eating in the luscious, magnificent outdoor garden with friends.
Everything was excellent!
Gosh, the tomato tatin is SO SUGARY that it taste like a desert and the burrata dish is waaayyyy too salty. What the heck guys!? Add to that they are not flexible with adjustments as they prepare most in advance, doesnt make this a pleasant place i would recommend.
Extraordinary service and food. One of our guests, a retired executive chef, said the gazpatcho was the best he d ever tasted. The garden is a spectacular location on a sunny day.
Our first time at Orto did not disappoint. The portions of every dish were generous and the food was amazing. We ordered 6 dishes and shared them across the middle of the table and all were amazing. The service was beyond excellent. Thank you very much for having us. We will be back with all our friends.
Had an idyllic lunch today, sitting outside surrounded by vines, vegetables, tomato plants all grown with love. One was transported far from North Vancouver. The special today was excellent, followed by the panna cotta. And of course Brigitte was there to welcome everybody by name. I didn t want to leave.
Recommended and not disappointed, now I would highly recommend.
Good pasta variety
The food was super fresh and flavorful and I absolutely loved the caprese salad, the fresh bread with tapenade and caramelized onion butter, and my pasta was creamy cheesy and delicious! Will definitely go back!
As always, an exceptional evening in every way. The food, the service, the atmosphere. Simply the best restaurant on the North Shore! The squid ink spaghetti s was delicious and I cannot recall the last time I had such a fantastic Caesar salad. On a nice day be sure to have a table in the garden!
Must go pasta restaurant! The staff is beyond lovely. The restaurant was full and they found us a place to sit! The food was phenomenal! So unique and delicious. The garden was lovely. They use many ingredients from their garden and local ingredients.
Lovely dining experience. Beautiful garden patio. Excellent service. Beet salad and caprese salad were both excellent. Risotto was fabulous. Gnocchi are different (they are clear they are ricotta not potato based) and were really good if you love ricotta. Highly recommend Orto!
Delicious Squid Ink Pasta with Fresh Seafood! Dishes are offered in beautiful Garden settings! Wonderful Italian Dishes! Food
Dined here often, never a disappointment.
The food is just amazing and the atmosphere is just perfect. Never heard of this place before. We were just around in the neighborhood and decided to step in just because we were hungry and the food was just stunning. Perfect portions and never felt bloated after eating here which I have experienced in a lot of Italian places in Vancouver region. Do not miss their tiramisu.
Excellent food and service located in a small unassuming spot. P
Stellar on every level. Service was perfect, food was delicious, and setting was unique - everything so thoughtful. Can t wait to return!
Lovely little locally owned restaurant with delicious food. I had the goat cheese and spinach omelet, which was topped with fresh herbs and parmesan and came with a lovely salad and locally made bread. My partner had a pasta special with scallops and asparagus and fresh herbs and butter, we both loved our dishes! The people working here were all very friendly and welcoming, highly recommend
One of our faves! The food is absolutely delicious! We love meeting friends at Orto. Can t wait to try the patio when the weather warms up! And always, always order the bread!
We had our wedding day lunch with over 20 family and friends. Brigitte was wonderful to work with and organized a beautiful lunch event for us. The family style menu was abundant and amazing. I would highly recommend anyone to host their events here, if you like delicious food and a warm environment!
After a long day of visiting gorgeous locations in Vancouver, my family and I (who are visiting from abroad) felt like putting a ribbon on our perfect day with top quality Italian cuisine. We came across this business as a top rated placed and we felt like giving it a try by ordering some take out. Unfortunately, the service experience offered by the person who took our order did not meet our expectations, we felt unwelcome from the start, and the value for money was also substandard.
Great meal at a lovely garden table!
A delicious lunch in Ortos garden with great service and attention to detail. The occasional visiting butterfly and hummingbird added to the charm. We enjoy our monthly visits to Orto throughout the entire year - always a pleasurable experience. Patricia, Richard and Marlyse.
We loved our dinner in the beautiful garden. Service was exceptional and the food was so delicious. Definitely coming back!
Favourite restaurant on the north shore.
A good place. I live near by.
Sat outside in dingy tent. Made to pay 20% tip for our group of 6, clearly only made to pay this as service wasnt otherwise deserving of 20% tip and clearly the staff know it. When called out the server said places like earls have 20% tip for group if 6, when pretty sure its 8 at those places. Not to mention Ive never seen mandatory tip over 18% in my life. Not to mention, do you really want to be comparing yourselves to Earls? That should tell you all you need to know about where their standards are... In our group only 1 of 6 dishes were acceptable.
We had a great time here. The staff were incredibly friendly and they accommodated us without a reservation even though it was very busy. Watching the kitchen operate was a very memorable experience. Highest recommendations, we will definitely be back!
Excellent food and service like always Brigitte! Thanks for the free desert and drinks. Food : 5/5
Consistently fresh, local food, a cozy, non-obtrusive environment and knowledgeable, friendly service here. No pretense; no nonsense; an innovative menu as well as classic pastas. And wonderful ethics. Just as Orto found a way to both serve their clients and support their suppliers through COVID, offering clients weekly grocery orders from suppliers and strategic take-away dinners for weekend pick ups, they now maintain food quality, portion size and price point for their menu items in this highly competitive and ever-escalating economy. Quite a feat! Brava, Brava Brigitte. Kid-friendliness: Kids are often at Orto for brunch, lunch and dinner with their families. Wheelchair accessibility: Orto restaurant is accessible
Celebrated a 65th birthday lunch with 5 others. Delicious food, great service. You will need a reservation as very popular. Extra charges included a 20% built-in tip and 2.50 per person as we brought our own birthday cake. Parking can be challenging. Watch for tow away signs and 1 hour only signs. Food
A nice little neighborhood French restaurant. Delicious food and excellent service. The mushroom tart is a must-order.
Pizza, pasta and service the best
I love this place! I have been many times, and is always my recommendation when someone asks for a place to go. Food is fantastic, and service is wonderful! The staff is friendly and fun. You should really go. Youll wish you had sooner.
Food was outstanding ! Quaint fresh family cooking! Ricotta gnocchi out of this world. Michael our waiter was great. Rigatoni with sausage and arugula pear salad
Last evening two friends and I dined at Orto. It was our second visit. We do not need a third dining experience to persuade us that we have found our go-to restaurant to celebrate special occasions or just being together. Thank you for our superb meals and for looking after us ! We look forward to our next visit with you!
Authentic French cuisine. This cozy place has the charm of my grandmothers dining table, mismatched collectible tableware, friendly staff, an experience not to be missed English translation is to follow!!! Authentic French food. Cozy place has the charm of my grandma s dinning table, mismatching collectible tableware, friendly staff an experience not to be missed
Foods are delicious
A birthday dinner celebration and the atmosphere service and food all did not disappoint! A good reminder what a local gem it is
We had the carbonara and squid ink pasta, green salad and dog bread to start. A truly incredible meal- made to order dishes you can really tell how fresh everything is. I will definitely be back! Dietary restrictions: Sauce is made to order so you can request small modifications
This is our date night go to. We live about 10 mins away and it s worth it every time. Amazing service, delicious food and presentation and a calm atmosphere the waiters and owner always do an amazing job as well and very welcoming. Thank you.
The impeccable service and amazing food left me thoroughly impressed. The mussels were perfection, and the pasta was an absolute delight! This Italian gem is a must-visit for any pasta enthusiast!
Service was perfectly timed and both the appetizers and main courses were tasty and well proportioned. We will be returning to this cozy, local restaurant for the La Régalade menus!
Came to Orto on an impromptu date night (but a made a reservation). The ricotta gnocchi dish was an instant favourite. Such complexity of flavour and texture. Everything else we ordered was also delicious. We will return!
Our first visit to Ortio Artisan Pasta was truly délicieux! Their pasta dishes feel like culinary masterpieces. The pasta is simply exquisite, with authentic flavors that transport us to Italy with every bite. Every time we indulge in their pasta, its a real treat for our taste buds. The quality and taste are consistently superb, making each dish a delightful experience. In addition to the quality of their pasta, Ortios customer service is impeccable. They always show kindness and attention that make each meal even more special. In summary, Ortio Artisan Pasta deserves five stars without hesitation. If youre looking for an exceptional culinary experience, especially for your first visit, head to Ortio. You wont be disappointed!
Always delicious food at Orto. Enjoy the space and the service. It s hidden gem and some of the best fresh made pasta on the North Shore and the best outdoor eating in the summer in their gardens.
What an amazing valentine s evening! The food and service were exceptional.
Haven t been here just yet - going for my first time tomorrow and really looking forward to it! This 5 star review is simply for the owners amazing responses to the super ridiculous google reviews. Having owned a food truck and having dealt with the insanity that is navigating google reviews and hangry customers, the replies truly bring me joy and inspiration. Please never change and can t wait to come eat tomorrow.
Orto Artisan Pasta: A Five-Year Culinary Love Story Over the past five years, my friends Maryiam, Debbie, Amir, and I have become devoted patrons of Orto Artisan Pasta, a jewel in the heart of North Vancouver. Brigitte, the passionate owner, has created not just a restaurant, but a sanctuary for those who cherish authentic pasta dishes. The ambiance at Orto is instantly welcoming, with its rustic charm and a warm, familial atmosphere. Each visit, greeted by Brigitte and her teams friendly faces, feels like a reunion with good friends. The standout star for me has always been the Squid Ink Spaghetti. This dish, with its sumptuous scallops, tender prawns, fragrant garlic, and a sublime white wine sauce, encapsulates the excellence of Orto. Like all their other dishes, its a harmonious blend of flavors, meticulously prepared and presented. Each time we dine, whether its savoring my favorite Squid Ink Spaghetti or exploring other tantalizing options, Maryiam, Debbie, Amir, and I are reminded of why Orto holds a special place in our hearts. Brigittes commitment to quality and her knack for creating memorable dining experiences shine through in every aspect of Orto. For anyone seeking an exceptional pasta experience in North Vancouver, Orto Artisan Pasta is an absolute must-visit. Its not just a meal; its a culinary adventure that keeps us coming back for more.
Really enjoyed everything about Orto. Great food and service in a warm rustic atmosphere. Looking forward to our next visit.
Absolutely horrible. The food was below average, just plain bad.. inedible. And the waiter was rude and disrespectful. I have not had a worst meal than this. It was so bad we returned two dishes. And to make matters worse, the waiter accuse me of being aggressive. When he was the one who was unprofessional and a savage liar
This restaurant legit sucks so bad
Ordered carbonara to go but wish I had time to dine in and taste the fresh dish
Delicious and unique food. Perfect in every way. Service was also excellent - always available but not intrusive. Highly recommend
Tucked away behind some stores, you will find a bright yellow little wooden cottage. Orto Pasta is a delightful restaurant that serves up great pasta with local ingredients. This place is quickly becoming one of my favourite Italian restaurants in the Lower Mainland. A real gem!
Enjoyed a terrific dinner with friends at Orto this week -- its still our #1 fave for fine food on the North Shore. Always super fresh, tasty, paired with good wine, served with love ... and reasonably priced!
A hidden gem on the North Shore. Lovely food and attentive service. I hear the garden patio is amazing in the summer. Looking forward to going back!
Wow. Outstanding food and service. Wonderful fresh pasta. Thank you!
Reading the reviews and seeing how RUDE aggressive and insecure the business owner (savage woman) who sometimes serves tabled too, is replying back.. no respectul customer should even risk stepin in this place.. Your impolite aggressive attitude even towards reviews that simply are giving feedback about the foods quality...is even more disgusting than knowing mean creatures like you still exist..
I noticed that my previous review was deleted, so Im reposting it. Had a reservation for 6 people, for my wifes birthday. They called us 10 mins before our reservation, telling us our only option was to pay $50 per person for family style dining (not optional, we were told we couldnt order ala carte) due to our group size. Really, for pasta, are you kidding me?! We ended up going to Mythos instead for Greek food and had a great time, a wonderful meal and spent less than $50 a person... That was 3 years ago, owner may respond with a BS response. But it happened, still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Asked my wife to bring home the lasagna for me and what I got was not lasagna. Im pretty sure the layers were just baby food in-between pasta. Even if that is their way of making lasagna, the flavor was horribly bland and the texture was not pleasing at all.
My wife and I visited Orto for the first time on her birthday last week. it was so good! Its a very nice intimate space with a homey feel to it. The food was incredible. past made in house, cooked right in front of you. A great experience and great meal, we will be back !!
Main courses are animals I m unable or choose not to eat. I was advised these were the only ingredients the kitchen had? After finding out if anything else can be done, they came back with a vegetarian plate that was slapped together using whatever they already had for the main courses. It ended up tasting like a big plate of salt I couldn t finish. This place is not accommodating to people s dietary requirements. UPDATE: I cant have mushrooms. I cant have brussel sprouts. Im lactose intollerant and have a nut allergy. theres your answer...
Excellant!!!! Great meal, great location, great staff, first class experience!!
We were served by who I assume was the owner. He was a little stressed and impatient, understandably as they seem understaffed that night so service was really slow. No complaints otherwise, food was great.
Do yourself a favor and get the squid ink spaghetti. It was delicious! Definitely coming back to try the other menu items.
Love their patio seating surrounded with herbs and flowers! Great pasta, too!
Had a wonderful dinner with my wife last night. The setting is warm and cozy with a home feel. The owner, Bridget, greeted us with a smile and welcomed us to dine. The food was full of delicious flavors from the starters thru the main course and topped off with desert. The portion sizes were really good, and unlike many other restaurants these days, who serve up reduced amounts. Service was exceptional, with everyone making sure you had everything you needed. We are looking forward to our next visit to try out several other items on the menu. Highly recommend if you are looking for a lovely night out eating homemade style Italian food.
A petite, cozy little nook with 100% fresh & homemade pasta. We tried the pate other than the pasta, and we were equally impressed
Really delicious dishes! Amazing service! We will back again! It was a really great experience like always!!
Food was exceptional, service was friendly and accommodating, loved the vibe at Orto. We will be back!! Kid-friendliness: They offered us a bigger table with paper and pencil crayons to keep kids happy.
I haven t been to Cafe Orto in a couple of years as I moved out of the area but WOW they have not lost their touch. What a gem! The food, ambience and service is amazing and I can t wait to come back!!
We boys had a little dinner at the restaurant this evening. The place is lovely. The food is tasty. The people are friendly.
The food was very delicious. We had Brussel sprouts for an appetizer. Service was efficient and friendly. The location is tiny. If you have anymore than 4 people you may want to make a reservation.
Since we first discovered this gem of a restaurant a year ago it has become our local go-to for dinner. Consistently delicious food and wonderful staff. Brigitte and her team are welcoming and entertaining! The pastas are amazing and the Brussels sprouts appie is our favourite. We ll be back soon.
Grabbed lunch here the other day! Excellent pasta and Tiramisu!
Good taste and reasonable price. Most customers seem to just live in the neighborhood.
Too bad we couldnt leave 10 stars! As my husband said, this was one of the top 5 meals in our lifetime! 100%! Outstanding, superb, a taste sensation! Orto is a hidden gem that never disappoints. Wonderful service, great atmosphere, and a lovely proprietor who graciously greets you. Nothing quite like this in all of Vancouver. In Europe, yes, but thats too far to go. Vegetarian options: The vegitarian gnocchi is my go to and is simply the BEST gnocci Ive ever had and is soooo original. Parking: LOTS of free street parking in area.
Had a wonderful dinner at Orto last week with family from out of town. The pasta with the lobster base was amazing. I look for great food, service and atmosphere when dining out and Orto excels in all 3 dimensions! Great job!!
We loved Ortos fresh pea and lovage soup. Bridgette (owner) was naturally friendly and even gave us some fresh lovage to bring home. It was the first time we were introduced to this European herb from Bridgettes garden. A 3-course meal for $40 .. generous portions too. A 5-star dining experience, for sure. Food : 5/5
Italian cuisine with a French twist. Last night decided to eat out solo and had a yen for pasta so arrived at Orto Artisan Pasta. The service was wonderful, respectful and friendly and the atmosphere very relaxing with 3 options of dining experience - outside, inside or under-cover. The food was delicious and well-portioned - nice to see a moderately priced set menu instead of being forced to order a la carte. Definitely going back.
The best seafood in BC , highly recommended, please try it and you will be very happy with there food, excellent service
The pasta bolognese was absolutely fantastic! I enjoyed it with their bread and followed by tiramisu. All of it was delicious!
Great service
Great pasta with very good staff. Very nice patio. They allow dogs on their patio too. Recommended dishes
Really good! Beautiful patio! A lot of greenery. Ill will be returning for sure.
Saturday evening was just the best way to celebrate my husband s birthday by dining in an old fashioned garden on a lovely warm evening. Wonderful food ..the garden salad was made from items grown in the garden we were sitting in and they serve a perfect Caesar salad! And the pasta served in a lobster bisque was delicious! Exquisite pastry with fresh rhubarb and strawberries for dessert finished our happy evening. Truly an experience.
I find it funny that I went to another restaurant in the same week that was michelin star and then I went to this one and by FAR Orto was the better restaurant. How incredible to sit in the breath taking garden where aspects of your dish are pulled from. I had the gniochi and my husband had the squid ink pasta dish, both were incredibly fresh and full of beautiful blends of flavor and ingredients. I honestly think this may be my favorite restaurant in the world? There I said it. I cannot think of another time that I was that blown away from my dish combined with the atmosphere combined with the lovely and friendly staff.
We were greeted by the owner. She offered us to sit on the patio which by the way was a great idea. We had white wine with our meal. The customer service was great as well as the the food quality.
Absolutely lovely garden patio setting with vegetables, herbs, grapes growing all around. Felt like we were dining in the hills of Italy, and not just off Marine Drive. Wonderful experience. Weve been in the winter and enjoyed delicious food, but this spring/summer experience on the patio took it to the next level!
My favourite restaurant - the perfect garden to dine al fresco, and the food is always seasonal, creative and delicious.
We love this North Shore gem of a restaurant. You cant go wrong with anything on the menu! Always delicious and the staff are the best
Lovely place I m having a beautiful moment! More than delicious It was an Art Food : 5/5 |
Very nice atmosphere, especially outside. Good food, and very accommodating staff.
This is absolutely amazing pasta quality! Al dente! Best texture i had within the Noth! I ordered the squid ink spaghetti with seafood. I thought i needed to pack it back as the portion was huge, but i ended up finishing it all, as i couldnt resist eating it! So tasty! This left me with no space for their desserts which looked eqaully stunning from the next table! I finished off with a cappuccino which is also of great taste and quality! Would come back!!!
We come to Orto for lunch and dinner often. We have never been disappointed. It is by far our favorite restaurant. When our 5 year old grandson asks to go to Orto, you know it has to be good for all ages. The portions are large, so bring your container for left overs. The staff is wonderful and refreshing.
Amazing food. Simple, fresh ingredients, no drama. The decor is also very simple and brings calm to the soul.
One of the best pasta I ever had! They grow their own veggies which makes the food really fresh and unique. I will definitely come back
Attentive staff, good service and well prepared, fresh food. Most enjoyable experience. Delightful garden setting for outdoor dining.
The more delicious, great prices and atmosphere. It couldn t be better sitting in a garden . Parking: Walked in and were given a table immediately.
The food was delicious but a little salty. It was nice eating on the patio.
Fresh, simple ingredients turned into the most delicious dishes.
This place is rustic and authentic. It really feels like Im dining in a European village. The tomato tartin is so good!
This was our second visit in a week. Orto is that good. Our first visit was for brunch and it was divine. I had a frittata which was light as air with tasty ratatouille. My partner had the brunch special. He loved it, especially the bacon. We returned for dinner. Black squid pasta for me...lovely tomatoey flavours with just the right amount of garlic and tender seafood. My partner had risotto which he loved. Cant wait to visit again. PS Make sure to sit in the gorgeous garden if there is room.
I must say I am quite impressed with everything - the hospitality, the service and the food. The server was quite attentive and willing to answer any questions that our table had. Once ordering the food, the food came out within minutes - hot and delicious. Got a small glimpse of heaven within the first few bites. My two friends were happy with the overall experience. (It is very hard to please them) Y all keep doing the hard work that y all do. God bless.
Amazing food. Wasn t so sure shots the garden setting but will be back
Delightful, delicious, and not to be missed! Venture to Orto for a summer evening, surrounded by the lush, and well-tended garden, with vines draped over the most beautiful patio. Add top notch service, (thank you Julie), and the MOST scrumptious meal: Zucchini frittela, with a zesty lemon mayonnaise, Ricotta Gnocchi in a delicate tarragon cream, and Risotto with baby squid, chorizo, sundried tomatoes, and youve just experienced a masterpiece in dining. Bring your partner, your friends, and family. This is too great not to share with your favourite people. Look around while youre there. Everyone is smiling. Why wouldnt they? Many thanks to Orto chefs, servers and owner, for an unforgettable first visit.
I have been a major fan of Orto for years. I love introducing friends and family to the Orto cuisine and garden experience. Today I had lunch in the garden with my niece and her fiancé who had not yet been to Orto. Everything that we ordered was outstanding, as always. My niece followed up with a text thanking me for introducing them to Orto and may well return soon on their own. It s a lovely touch that I m greeted by name when I m dining at Orto. Sue Vegetarian options: An appreciation of vegetarian and plant based dishes is simply built into Orto s seasonal changing menu. There isn t a separate list. Of the 6 dishes that we ordered/shared, only 2 included meat: One with chicken and one pâté. The other 4 included on vegan and the rest with egg or cheese.
Beautiful patio Fantastic menu. I highly recommend the zucchini frites with the lemon mayo. Food : 4/5
Best Gazpacho I have ever had xx
Its been far too long since weve eaten here! The garden patio has grown even more lush, creating private rooms for diners - such an amazing summer dining experience. The food was excellent, and the squid ink pasta with seafood was perfection. Well be back soon!
This little gem is absolutely delightful. We have been a few times now and everything we ve ordered has been exceptional. We particularly love the beautiful garden setting which makes it a wonderful dining experience.
Nice place, relaxing to sit and enjoy. Food was ok not wow. Our food took long to come(very long). We had a little dog that they allow us to bring but then we found them not being pet friendly because every now and then they would come and question something like, no dog on chair, no dog on your lap, no bark. It would have been better to not let us come inside because we had dog because we didn t find them dog friendly. Also the drink had white egg and they never mentioned and when I drank it I realized it had white egg! Please let people know when they order! Chairs were too hard and we didn t have cushions. We started to have lower back pain after sitting there for an hour
Orto offers such a unique dining experience as you sit among the beautiful gardens. It is my go to place to take visitors to North Van. The food is always consistent and delicious. The chef always creates wonderful specials to be enjoyed. It feels like coming home when I dine there, everyone is so welcoming and accommodating.
As always, the service, food and ambience, impeccable. Our friends, had never been at Orto Artisan Pasta before. The garden setting is perfect for an evening out. 2 of us had the pasta special, 1 the bolognese and 1 the eggplant pasta dish. My pasta special was fresh, very tasty, perfectly portioned. Hats off to Brigitte Raye and the everyone there for making us look brilliant for suggesting it!
I went here for my anniversary and it was so nice!! The atmosphere is really beautiful and fairy like. I also really loved how welcoming and nice the staff was, it was very warm and cozy. The food was really good :)
Food was amazing.
Orto is so good I came back two nights in a row. The squid ink spaghetti and the Malfade melanzane were fantastic. The service was amazing too. Would come a third night without question!
I would highly recommend Orto . Amazing food and fabulous service. Brigitte your awesome.thank you
The patio was wonderful, with all the planters full of herbs and vegetables that I imagine they cook with. Even though the restaurant is in a busy parking lot off of marine drive, you d have no idea while on the patio. The pastas were fantastic as well.
Thank you so much to all the staff in Orto that helped make my parents 60th wedding anniversary party so special. The food was fantastic, loved the family style service, and the set up on the deck was perfect. Special thank you for accommodating food sensitivities. Brigitte runs a hidden gem on the North Shore - this restaurant is wonderful! Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free options
First time here despite living in West Van for over 6 yrs....what a wonderful evening. Brigette ( the owner ) was our server - she is warm and welcoming and well humoured! The quality of our food was outstanding - we split a caesar salad which was one of the best Ive enjoyed and our pasta dishes were fabulous. My squid ink spaghetti with seafood was Michelin star worthy. Best meal weve had on the North Shore bar none. Well be back in a few weeks!
We recently had a family celebration for 15 people. Feeling overwhelmed to create a memorable meal we decided to go to Orto Artisan Pasta What an amazing experience Brigitte and her crew welcomed us like family to her beautiful restaurant. Service was low key yet attentive. A multi course lunch was served family style. Each dish was beautifully prepared using fresh ingredients. The seafood pasta made with squid ink was simple yet stunning & do not miss the Tomatoe Tart Tartin. Seated outside in the garden we felt we were transported to Europe! Don t miss this hidden gem in North Vancouver Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free & dairy free options were given and just as good as the set menu the rest of the party was served
Sensational experience.
Hidden gem. Will definitely revisit when convenient. I don t live on the north shore. But on those occasions where it is opportune to dine there this will be a contender.
We cannot say enough positive things about Orto. We always know were getting fresh ingredients, with the flair that we associate with Orto. Service is always great, very attentive and made us feel special.
We had a lunch that was absolutely wonderful. The food was as good as you could expect. The place is cosy. And the staff were excellent. It is all well worth the price.
Tasty food and great service. The risotto was huge.
I have found this place to be hit and miss. Sometimes the food and service is amazing, and other times not so much. Bad Dog bread is delicious (made at the bakery attached to Orto), and I think it should be served fresh -- but I found that when the bakery is closed, they serve it toasted to try to cover up the fact that is not freshly baked --- poor for a place that prides itself on its bread and sandwiches -- and charges $9 for a serving of bread.
I m not sure how I ve lived on the north shore for 3+ years and haven t been here yet. Food, service, everything 10/10. Will be back and can t recommend enough!!!!! What a special spot in the community.
Wow! How did we just discover this gem. What a lovey restaurant, amazing staff, INCREDIBLE food and cozy ambiance. The North Shore is truly fortunate to have Orto in our back yard. Will be back soon.
Pasta was delicious! I loved the cozy atmosphere
Cosy, inviting, delicious and personal words to describe an evening to remember! The mushroom and chicken risotto was divine and hearty, the mussels so plump and savoury, the brussel sprouts and the beet salad were on point and the lemon tarte a perfect end to our anniversary dinner. Thank you to the owner and our Parisian waiter for their personal attention and making the evening an event! Milles mercis.
Super amazing service by Thomas and Brigette the owner madam Pasta is all so fresh and yummy, appetizers are French forwarded and all amazing!! Food
This little restaurant is such a gem that I sort of want to keep it all to myself! From the moment you step inside it gets better and better. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, the service is impeccable and the food is to die for!!!!
Great spot. Top notch food and unpretentious atmosphere.
A little piece of Europe tucked inside of North Van. What a gem. Lovely fusion dishes. Fresh and creative meets cosy and familiar. Warm staff and environment. In one word, NOMMM.
Great Italian restaurant with delicious food! They also speak French! Our experience was delightful
Nice ambiance, but they charge $15 for this...
My friend has been saying this place is his favorite brunch place in town and after trying it out, I 100% agree! The food is out of this world, and the service is perfect! Old school hospitality. Location is gorgeous too, amazing patio. Youve got to check this place out!!
The real deal. Excellent pastas. Some of the best we ve had in a long time.
I love tomato tart !
Food is out of this world but ambience is a bit lacking. We were at a table by the kitchen but when in Rome....The food and service more than made up for it as did the 2 bottles of wine.
Amazing food and impeccable service
A great night out with absolutely delicious pasta. Warm atmosphere.
Excellent place!!
Prefect spot for authentic experience and delicious food
We lucked into having dinner at Orto s after spending the day in North Vancouver. A small, intimate, homey feel from the moment you walk in. And then there s the food - you can tell it s all homemade, and prepped in house. So happy we discovered it! Make sure you stop in if you re looking for a place to eat in North Van!
This was just a fantastic experience on the heated patio. The service was very good and the authentic Italian food was outstanding. We especially enjoyed the carbonara, the spaghetti bolognese, the butternut squash gnocchi, the Brussels sprouts and the melon tart. Highly recommended, but reserve ahead.
Another fabulous lunch at Orto. Brigitte and the crew never disappoint.
One of our most favorite places to go and celebrate really any big or small day. People, food and TIRAMISU, everything is just exceptionally good. Highly recommended!
A warm, friendly, and vibrant atmosphere, very attentive service, our pasta dishes were rich and delicious, and reasonably priced. Such a satisfying experience!
Beautiful cozy place with great food and friendly service!
Orto is a family affair & We are so fortunate to have this gem just minutes away from home. Food is stunning, and no matter what we order we re always delighted with our meal! love the service at Orto with Brigitte and the whole crew who are so friendly with the guests and always take care to offer the best quality!
OMG, the best pasta so far in the whole BC. Served within minutes, yet not pre-cooked. Excellent sauce, just exactly what matches the dish. Tiramisu and coffee were also on the top level.
We had a wonderful experience last night for dinner. The atmosphere was cozy, the service impeccable and the food was beyond words delicious. All and all a perfect evening out for dinner. Will definitely visit again!
