Compact, woodsy Japanese bar & restaurant offering a long sushi menu & draft beers.
Always a pleasure at Sushi Kumo. Everything always comes fast and super fresh. They have a great menu with some different things on thier appy menu then you generally see at your local sushi spot. Prices are very good for the quality they always deliver.
Good variety. Friendly staff. I recommend the Tuna Carpaccio or Smoked Salmon Tataki. I didn't like the Chicken Karaage, but it was a fair amount (8 boneless pcs) for the price ($10.90).
Absolutely beautiful little restaurant. Very nice service and the Japanese cuisine was amazing. I loved how they offered the Tobiko Nigiri to come with a quails egg on there. I definitely want to visit here again.
Taste is good but they skimp on takeout portions. The takeout portions are significantly smaller than eat in. Service could use some adjustments, I feel bad going in and paying for my order it seems like I’m inconveniencing the staff.
Nestled near Lonsdale, Sushi Kumo promises a haven for sushi enthusiasts, including the adventurous vegetarians among us. As a fellow risk-taker in life's culinary adventures due to seafood allergies, I dared to venture into this quaint establishment, and I'm glad I did. Food Quality (5/5): Each bite of the Avocado roll, Cucumber Roll, and Veggie Roll was a testament to the chef's dedication to perfection. The rice, cooked to just the right consistency, cradled fresh, vibrant vegetables that were a delight to the palate. Not a hint of browning or toughness, a common pitfall in many rushed sushi joints. Price-Value Ratio (4/5): While prices may tilt towards the higher end compared to nearby alternatives, the superior quality justifies every penny spent. When it comes to sushi, I firmly believe that quality should never be compromised for the sake of savings. Ambiance (4/5): Simplicity meets style in Sushi Kumo's ambiance. Though modest, the decor exudes a certain charm that complements the dining experience. Service (3/5): Unfortunately, the otherwise stellar experience was marred by lackluster service. The pace was sluggish, with no check-ins to inquire about our needs. Water and tea remained unrefilled, a disappointing oversight that detracted from the overall enjoyment. It was disheartening to observe preferential treatment towards certain patrons, a stark contrast to the egalitarian spirit of hospitality. Final Verdict: Despite the service hiccup, Sushi Kumo remains a gem worth revisiting. For vegetarian sushi aficionados seeking impeccable quality, this is the place to be. Just be prepared to exercise patience and perhaps a gentle reminder for a refill on your drink.
Pleasant, fast and responsive service here. The food quality was also very high (freshness, seasoning and portion size) and price was also very reasonable.
Definitely not impressed by the sushi here mainly because their quality is way below my expectations. Their soft shell crab had a fishy taste to it, which means that it is not fresh. The sashimi that we ordered was nothing special, I found that the pieces were cut a little larger than I would’ve liked. The rolls that they have are passible, but I would not come here again.
Great place to celebrate an occasion of any kind. Particularly your birthday as we did! Perfect warm sake. Ice-cold beer. Fresh sushi. Fantastic service. Parking is a bit tricky but hey, it's well worth it.
The sushi here is amazing. Always fresh and well prepared. Excellent service and fast. Love it!
Very bad service, mainly because they have published a n the page and at the entrance door a closing time but they close earlier. The person who attends is rude and kicks people out of the restaurant
Most worst of worst.
Good portion size for a lunch box, but the taste is pretty plain
over priced. compared to two years ago and now, amount of food shrinks a half, price went up. every time, rice needs to be cooked more soften, beef need to be tender. feel like chew a rubber piece all the time. Food
Top sushi spot in north van. Coming from a 25 year sushi in Vancouver veteran. The sockeye salmon is delicate, the tuna is melt in your mouth. A lot of care goes into the sushi here.
Ordered chicken teriyaki and a couple of rolls via a delivery app. Without question the worst chicken teriyaki I have ever had. Shockingly bad and totally inedible. A strange, semi processed looking skinless white meat sitting on top of uninspired veg with teriyaki sauce on the side. Insult to injury was the sauce - imagine the worst, store bought, cloyingly sweet misinterpretation of a clasic - it was that bad. My wife commented- did we just get pranked? If not, someone should be embarrassed
Great sushi place. I love their free tea pot which they refill. The service is really good but most importantly the food quality is top notch. Their lunch/dinner box is a great deal with lots of food. I hope they don t drop the quality/quantity.
staff behaved rudely and unfriendly for using their washroom when picking up an uber eats order
Food is amazing and the servers are by far the best..I wish they had kept the Tatami room..
Beautiful venue, friendly and fast service, and great food!
My favorite Asian restaurant in North Vancouver! Excellent service, delicious food, very high quality ingredients.
Great food in a beautiful restaurant. Service is first class.
Some of the better Sushi Ive ever had, great prices and nice casual atmosphere.
Music is a touch too loud most of the time, but otherwise, everything is great; the prices are far better than a majority of other Japanese restaurants in North Vancouver, especially when weighed against the quality, which is superb. Portion sizes for certain items are better than others, I recommend selecting from the rice bowls or the noodles if you want the best bang for your buck.
Always great food. Love the staff!
Great service and atmosphere. Very small portions, a 17.00 roll was the same as a regular california roll in most sushi spots. Tasted average but not great.
I fell in love with Kumo after seeing their renovations (previously Sushi Mania), beautifully designed tea cups, and exquisite menu options. I have had nothing short of an amazing experience for both dine in and takeout. Their spicy chopped scallop roll is the BEST in North Van.
We were a group of eight people and before we were seated the waitress told us that they charge 18% tip for groups of eight people and more. We asked them why but they couldn t really answer and just said it s because they can t serve other people. I would have been fine with paying 15-20% tip after I know the quality of the food and service. We accepted paying the 18% so we got seated but then they didn t even hand out the menu one by one. They just put them all on one pile which I thought was a bit rude if you charge 18% and then they did the same with the water so we decided to go to another restaurant.
I bought a party tray and some rolls for takeout for a group of 4. I paid $140 for it. The quality was subpar and the portions were basically THEFT. The house roll for example was $15 with 5 pieces with the size of a california roll. Go somewhere else where its more worth the money.
This is quickly becoming one of our favourite Sushi joints in town. Being able to sit outdoors and watch our kids play on the grassy little hill is a unique pleasure. The service is fast and friendly. The food is well presented, fresh and yummy. Their prices seem slightly cheaper than the usual places on Lonsdale. Try their tuna bite appetizer. It s unique and very yummy. Sauce on the side if you don t like it spicy They have several private parking spots in the lot under the twin towers.
Good quality food! We ordered takeout and enjoyed it. This is the chicken katsu.
Best sushi ever! We always go there for the Volcano Roll and miso soup. The staff is super friendly, welcoming, and the place is always clean. We love it and highly recommend it!
Sushi Kumo is one of our go-to spots for sushi. While it may not be the best sushi in North Van, it s still very good and stands out with its great selection, reasonable prices, and a welcoming atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Whenever we re a big group and craving sushi, this is where we head. We really loved the oshi, the crunch roll, and some classics like edamame. My partner is a fan of the karaage chicken. We recommend this place, and we ll keep coming back!
Very good! Pricey but good.
A bit over priced unfortunately
What a rip off. We paid 70 bucks for chicken teriyaki, a special roll, a house roll and sashimi. The portion was EXTREMELY small. Seared fish over the special roll was overcooked. Chicken teriyaki was basically microwaved chicken breast with sauce. This is not worth it!!!!! We will never go back there!!!!!!!
Very low quality
Nice sushi place in a quiet area in Lonsdale. The staff is attentive and not overbearing which is nice. The food was decent and they have a broad menu with many things. The simple sushi collection we got was good although about the same as a lot of places for the price.
Amazing everything
Everything was average. Nothing specil
Delicious food. I like the aburi one
Love this place, my fav sushi spot in North Van. Great service, really good prices, fresh and yummy food. Crispy dynamite roll
Solid
Spicy salmon sashimi, dynamite combo and mixed tempura. Ordered online and picked up, website is easy and quick to order.**** Food
Tried this place for the first time with takeout, and were somewhat disappointed. The rainbow roll was quite small and somewhat dry. Salmon teriyaki just okay. Plastic packaging was horrid.
The place is quiet, clean, and has a nice ambiance. The servers are friendly and accommodating. Servings are huge. My family always orders katsu for each of us on top of sushi and tempura. You should try all the variety of sushi. Looks like we love most of it. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for some quiet, good food with good company.
The best in that little neighborhood
Extremely fast, super reasonably priced, and most importantly; very very yummy!!
Yummy!
Ordered tray of sushi. Excellent quick service and food was excellent also. Highly recommend.
I tried gyozo and Katsu don. Both were delicious with a great friendly service
What a great dinner with my girl. Was a grand meal thanks so yummy
Excellent Japanese food and lovely interior with big booths
Rice was little bit dry...
I saw the reviews and paid a visit for dinner. Everything was awful. The restaurant is overloaded with Uber orders and the entrance is clogged with drivers. The staff is overwhelmed with orders and so service is atrocious. Hurried orders, rushed service, no attention or water or anything. Clientele are mostly families with small kids. The food was bad. Old gross raw fish. Soggy veg. Sad presentation with high sugar, store-bought sauces. Their real crab comes from a real can. There is nothing at all enjoyable about this lame sushi factory and so sushi lovers should be cautious
Have eaten several times here - picking up, eating in, and via delivery - since moving to N. Van nearly a year ago but I think its already going downhill! On January 1 wanted to order from them via Uber at 5:20pm. They werent accepting current orders, but they were accepting scheduled, so we placed an order for delivery between 6:45-7:15, thinking okay, its New Years Day, theyre busy, thats fine. It immediately said order received by restaurant. At 6:25 this hadnt changed to order being prepared so getting a bad feeling I called Sushi Kumo directly. Someone very politely answered and after I gave them my wifes name, they said, unprompted, Yes, we have your order, itll be ready for 6:45pm and hung up. At 6:35 we get a message on Uber saying the restaurant cancelled your order. I immediately call them and reached a totally different person who was incredibly rude. I asked Hey, whats the deal with our order being cancelled? Youll have to talk to Uber. But it says that you cancelled it and I just spoke to someone that confirmed-- Youll have to talk to Uber Okay, Id like to just order from you directly and Ill come pick it up Sure but Itll be an hour before its ready. Yikes. Yeah, not interested. You guys lost customers who were eating your sushi monthly. Lose the disrespectful woman on the phone and figure out your order logistics and maybe well be back.
Great place Reasonable price Been there a few times Always the same good service and food Food : 5/5 |
Awesome sushi. Best on the north shore!
Came here on a Friday for a quick snack. Service was friendly from the moment we walked in. Food arrive relatively quickly, was delicious and fresh. Decor is cute & so are the tea cups. Food is priced reasonably and they have a lot of good lunch options and combinations at a reduced price. Will come back when in North Van. Update. Went back today (with our kids) and can confirm that this wasnt a one off. We had good service, food came fast for my hangry kids & everything was fresh. Kid-friendliness: Big booths that allows for space for all your kid stuff
Delicious sushi (we had a few classic maki rolls plus two special rolls). Both were excellent quality, fresh, well-prepared and presented. Service was fast, attentive and friendly. Price-point is great for value. Would visit again!
Honestly the food is a mixed bag but it gets 5 stars because I could ACTUALLY eat. Took me 1.5 hours to stumble upon this restaurant with no line up lol. Anyway I really enjoyed that the spicy tuna is actually spicy for someone who can take heat, the creative rolls are quite tasty but the wasabi for the sashimi is gross-looking. Food
Absolutely delicious and amazing quality!
Some of the best sushi Ive had on the North Shore. We ordered from Doordash and were relieved with the high quality and presentation of the food. Will order again. This will be our go to place for sushi on the shore.
Fresh, delicious sushi. Lots of options in the menu. Clean and cosy space.
Best spicy agedashi ever!
Honestly disappointing. Great atmosphere, great service. Beef Donburi bowl, spring rolls and rainbow roll were all average at best. We were hoping for much more based on the reviews.
Delicious and fresh! Also very professional service who let you enjoy your meal and family time. Definitely a new local for us
Really good
Sushi Kumo is a great casual sushi spot in the North Shore. Great service, friendly and efficient staff. We have been here many times, and will continue to come back. However, today there was an odd fishy smell, half way through our seating that lingered.
We went with friends. The restautant was ready for us 18 people. Party trays have good portion. We order the love boat. We are satisfied. The service was understandable.
Lovely atmosphere inside and out; fast attentive service; fresh delicious food. I keep coming back!
So good! We ordered a couple rolls for take-out to sample. And ordered more after our first bite! Highly recommend
This is my favourite & go-to sushi place out of the many, many options in Lower Lonsdale. Not on the main strip but worth the minor detour. Must try: the salmon oshi and spicy tuna oshi.
Amazing sushi and a really nice restaurant with great staff!
Very clean food is high quality priced a little higher then some other places I would come back good location
I have had sushi from all over Canada and I can honestly say that this was the best vegetarian maki Ive ever had. The selection and flavours were incredible 10/10 would definitely recommend!!!
Fav sushi on the north shore
My husband and I love Sushi Kumo! The staff and owner are amazing. They truly care about their customers. The establishment is very clean and the decor is awesome! The food is incredible!!!!
Great place. Foods are really good and the staffs are very friendly. I highly recommend this place. Plus, there are enough designated parking spots near the restaurant.
Fresh food. Tasty dishes. Nice cozy atmosphere. A hidden gem in the area.
I m VERY picky with my sashimi but this place is bomb. I love the crispy tuna sashimi. Defs coming back for more. The food is super fresh, service is nice too!!
Awesome sushi in North Van, good prices with an excellent fish quality. A must go! Parking: Parking 10 meters West of the sushi at the north side of the road, easy to find hard to see.
Great value for great quality sushi in North Van!
Entire meal was delicious! Staff were lovely and friendly!
Service was great and food was delicious. We ordered the gomae, veggie roll combo, salmon sashimi and beef yakisoba and would order it again for sure.
This is a really great restaurant! Delicious food, excellent selection and the service is friendly and prompt. The inside is really nicely setup, good size tables. The outside patio is going to be great in the warmer months.
Clean and modern decor. Excellent sushi and attentive servers. Will be back for more.
Favorite place in Lonsdale area! Very quality and great special roll options
Beautiful restaurant but does not have parking
Unfortunately, the hygiene of this restaurant must be questioned. I found hair on my plate and a couple of minutes later another hair appeared on the ginger I asked for. It was not my hair nor my friends because it was short, black and the second one was a bit wavy. Sorry to say, but am really disappointed and there is no complimentary the server give me. That is just kinda gross and needs to improve for a better service next time. Will I come back? May be
Prawn tempura, spider roll and sushi are good, especially the prawn tempura. However, their udon and don are really salty, especially the beef udon. The port don are also too over cook with too much sauces. I recommend the prawn tempura and sushi only.
Excellent sushi, well priced and family friendly. Enjoyed all our meals - the lobster roll was excellent, spicy salmon roll was amazing Will definitely be coming back P.S. love the tables
This is probably the best sushi on the north shore!!!
My first time ordering from this place today. Ordered the salmon avocado roll and spicy tuna cone. Both extremely fresh and delicious. The size of the rolls were very generous and I am impressed. I will definitely return.
Great venue with a patio outside. Fresh ingredients and their passion for food is easily displayed in the beautiful dishes served. Lunch for 3 people with a tip was under $60
Its our Sushi go to place.
The boat is so big! Lots of high chairs in case you have toddler. Kid-friendliness: Spacious and offers high chairs Food : 5/5 |
Great food, fast service
I drove by many times and didn t expect such a nice place with cool atmosphere from outside. Food was good Portion was relatively small Price was okay Service could have been better. I believe they had less employees than what they needed. Service was slow and no-one checked on us if we needed anything. Water/tea didn t get refilled. We had to wave several times to grab some one s attention to get the bill.
We had a hard time finding a quality spot that was reliable and consistent. So far we have done take out 6 times and dined in twice. Each time the quality and and taste has been the same. Without a doubt the #1 spot for sushi in the entire Vancouver area.
Super cute sushi place. They have lots of vegan/vegetarian options including a large veggie dinner combo. Perfect for me!
This is a hidden gem in North Vancouver awesome sushi and lots of selection great presentation and great customer service! They are licensed to serve beer and wine and they have an outdoor patio and inside dining. You must go and check out this restaurant!
Great sushi,great place,great service
So fresh! Loved the veggie gyoza and avocado roll. The ambiance is lovely and they have a great patio.
Wow, first time back after the re-brand & what a difference! Everything was delicious, the restaurant has been modernized & much more welcoming. Portion sizes were great, will def be back!
Hands down best sushi in North Van. Everything is so fresh and delicious. The seating is also great, they have large cozy booths. Best oyster motoyaki I ve ever had 10/10
Perfect sushi!
Not on honest establishment. Ordered a sashimi dish and it was indicated that there were 20 pieces for $65. The dish arrived and all the slices were cut SUPER thin just to make the count of 20. The service was also horrible and slow. And when inquired about the slices being cunningly thin, they didnt even acknowledge or want to assist. There are way better sushi restaurants that would not do this to customers!
Great atmosphere and service. The food however was disappointing. Something about how they do the rice here makes it taste/feel like grocery store sushi. I think its because the rice is a little overcooked and then its quite compacted. I wonder if I just got them on a bad day but Im really surprised at the rating they have compared to what I had.
Everything was delicious!
Excellent!
Good quality food! I love that they have a patio! Reasonably priced for the quality. Slightly smaller portion size, but reasonable for the quality and price.
best sushi on the shore.
My second well deserved 5 start! This place is F@$&ing brilliant!
A lovely spot off the main drag off lower Lonsdale. Good for a tasty lunch. The veggie bento had lightly crispy tempura, teriyaki tofu, veg sunomono, avocado roll, a side of rice, and miso soup for $14. The oyster motoyaki was a creamy delicious add-on. Also tried the tamago nigiri (beautiful) and the bento C with Cali roll and similar sides as the veggie bento, but chicken teriyaki and prawn tempura included. The outer patio was blissful on a hot Friday afternoon. Vegetarian options: Lots! Kid-friendliness: No problem with kids.
Was pleasantly surprised by this place! Impeccable service and the food was so good. They have quite the assortment of Japanese food, not just sushi. I opted for a ramen dish and a Maki roll and have no regrets. Will go back next time Im in North Van. Vegetarian options: Lots of options. Kid-friendliness: They were really nice to my kids and didnt mind the spill! Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access.
Always great food and service.
Friendly service, serene atmosphere, and phenomenal sushi.
Super pet friendly patio. They offered water for my dog in hot weather. Patio area was super clean and well maintained picnic table style. We ordered deluxe nigiri and party set for two. We were hungry and the portion was just right for us. This place is recommended for the people who wanna dine in with their dogs.
Finally! A great sushi place in NV! Sushi is so fresh, innovative/classics done well & delicious. Loved the oshi, all the nigri weve tried, rolls.. yum. Service was excellent both times we went right after puppy class to sit on the patio
Really good quality sushi and super clean place! Highly recommend
Best service, best staff, best food
Great quality an service!
I waited long time for pick up, waste time
Sushi Kumo has incredible food and service! Their rolls have a great selecton and come with 6 rolls per plate. The Teriyaki Don is also excellent. But I have something to say about the desserts. They have two dessert options: a frozen mango dessert and a chocolate hedgehog filled with hazenut icecream. The photos on the table stand make it seem like the hedgehog is one of those small Purdys chocolate hedgehogs and the waitress might try to convince you that its small. But dont be fooled. The chocolate hedgehog is the size of a iphone 13 and as tall as an actual hedgehog. Its easily the better option! Delicious chocolate and icecream flavour! Order the chocolate hedgehog when you come!
Really great food!! Believe me you wont regret it!! Try the fried tofu and wakame salad However, service wasnt great, the server with the blond hair was rude. My only suggestion is to try to hire friendlier servers
Our go-to Japanese restaurant in North Vancouver
Nice atmosphere, good sushi
The food is good but wow the service is bad. No waters, waited forever to get our order in, did not take away our dirty plates away, and we felt rushed because they gave us the bill without even asking us if we wanted it. I would just get takeout from here instead
I always go to sushi kumo for the good quality of the sushi. But today I left rather offended. When we went there, it took a long time for the server to check on us each time we wanted to order something. No waters were given to us until we had to ask, dirty plates were still on our table. On top of that, the server kept asking if we wanted to go bags everytime she would pass by our table, making us feel rushed to pack up and go. In the end, she gave us our bill without us even asking or wanting it yet. Overall, the experience was a disaster. I do not like to leave negative reviews but this experience was very disappointing.
Best sushi Ive ever had. Wonderful service. Definitely going back.
Sushi Komo is my go to Sushi Restaurant some finding it several months ago. Its definitely the sushi place in North Vancouver! Sushi is fresh, they have all the classic rolls and lots of innovative rolls of their own creation. Everything is done well & is delicious. The restaurant is bright and spotlessly clean with nice open space to eat with family and friends. The service is always excellent, prompt and accurate. Thoroughly recommend giving them a go if you value good sushi and great service in a good location.
All the dishes are very tasty, the atmosphere is beautiful and the staff is polite
Took my good review off. Hadn t eaten here in a while and went in tonight, the sushi was off and when we mentioned it to the lady she looked so angry and was so attitudey and rude to us. Won t be going here again. Very disappointed she acted that way . And very disappointed in the quality of smoked salmon that was served. Although she said it s high quality in a mumbled voice.. I know what high quality in sushi is and that was not it.
You can tell immediately this place is staffed by people who care. Everything is great
Incredible place, amazing staff, perfect sushi, I cannot recommend enough!
Awesome food, reasonable price, very clean, and good service.
great food, good range of options and lovely staff.
Tried the couple combo twice, enough portion for 2people and reasonable price! Yum fresh food/ professional staff/ nice service/ good atmosphere, I can t wait for next visit! Definitely/strongly recommend to try this resaturant
Great service, the food was excellent, and the prices were reasonable!
One of the best Japanese meals I have had. Amazing sushi, reasonably priced with great service
I came from Edmonton to eat here because I wanted to try high quality, fresh sushi and I wasnt disappointed! Every nigiri I had was delicious. The tempura yam roll is the best Ive ever had. The service was amazing because the waitresses were so attentive. Ill be coming back for sure!
Ordered chicken yakisoba with veggies. And it was not good at all. Expensive and bad quality
Amazing new sushi place opening on second street in North vancouver. Visited this place with family out of town and they all loved the food. Atmosphere is great really unique design. The service was fantastic. There are some interesting roles on there that i hadnt seen anywhere else. Highly recommend this place
I ordered take out - pork ramen and seafood udon noodles. The broth for the noodles was very salty and the ramen had literally half the serving of meat from other places. Do yourself a favor and walk an extra block. The options on lonsdale avenue are much better. No wonder this place is empty during peak hours. I went here due to a high rating but don t be fooled. Most of the reviews are sus. Like someone flew down from Edmonton to try out sushi in north Vancouver. Lmao.
Small portions, not so tasty for the price. I would say overpriced.
Fantastic food, very reasonably priced, great presentation, great service, good location.
My friends and I lunched at Sushi Kumo yesterday. It was a delicious meal had by all. We will all be back. Parking: Right next door and underground
We had take out from Sushi Kumo and man... it was delicious!! The salmon and everything was so fresh and beautifully prepared. Great vibe and such friendly staff. Would definitely recommend!! :)
The ingredients are very fresh, recommended
Visited this New Restaurant this past week with some Friends. The atmosphere was great ..Servers lovely .. and the Food was so tasty!! Fresh ..well made and plenty. We all ordered different Meals. Mine was Gyoza to start ( oh my ...were they delish !!) ..and a Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box > such variety and so tasty!! We all agreed ..we will be revisiting for sure !! Thank you.
The renovation is beautiful, bright and clean. Love this modern look. Lots of big tables for parties Food was excellent fish was fresh I love sauces and they definitely outdid themselves we enjoyed every bit and will definitely be going back
I ordered take out and received average tasting Japanese food. The person flying in from Edmonton should try Tojos in Vancouver.
Fantastic food, great service, and wonderful décor. Definitely worth a meal here!
Food was great but some servers were quite rude and unprofessional.
Great little sushi spot, delicious food and some creative rolls on the menu! Sashimi was great quality as well
Great food and atmosphere, friendly and fast service
It was our first time and I am quite impressed!Very good food, service and ambiance!Very bright and clean! Will definitely go back!Prices are also reasonable!
Lovely team, delicious sushi. Simply wonderful
Having visited or ordered take out a few times, the quality has been excellent. Great tasting sushi starts with great rice, which Sushi Kumo gets right. Will keep on going, best place so far in the North Shore! May I suggest more creative veggie options would be nice to have. Vegetarian options: May be worth to have some more.
