Korean-style Chinese restaurants 한국식 중식당
9/10 homey unfussy food! Best bang for your buck when the food is shared family style. Top dishes were def the black bean noodles (nice that they offer veg option) and the seafood noodle soup. The texture/bounce of the noodles is perfect. The omurice and dumplings were just okay. Altho it was very kind of them to give us the dumplings on the house. Service was fast. Very impressed by how one sweet lady can serve the entire place. Atmosphere is hole in the wall but that’s how you know it’s good.
This is the only Korean-Chinese restaurant I go to in this area. The food is, of course, fresh and delicious, and the staff is as friendly as always. The atmosphere feels like a hidden gem outside the city, so much so that it makes me feel like I’m traveling in Korea.
The food sold here is always delicious and fresh. I felt the deep flavor that I eat in Korea. If you are looking for a romantic atmosphere with your partner, don't expect much atmosphere, but if you want a really delicious meal, I recommend this place.
The best korean restaurant in the north shore. Kan poon ki is definitely a family favourite, and I always buy it for family events. Staff is friendly and always welcoming
The food here is so delicious! It’s my favourite place to get jjajangmyeon! All of the servers are so nice and helpful. The L7 lunch special is my favourite! It’s a good deal and the portion is big too! Thank you to everyone at Ga Hyang Ru
Ordered Seafood Fried Rice w/ Jajjang and Kimchi Fried Rice, the large one but in fact its not that large, tastes so so, but service is fast and friendly. Lil bit pricey.
The food tastes healthy and home made. A little bland. Expected fire taste from wok, but not sure if they use a wok here. It's worth a visit if you live around here but definitely was not worth it for us coming from downtown.
It's the best Korean-chinese restaurant in North shore. Their weekday lunch special is so nice. I really like their Stir fried squid rice.
Whenever I think of a Korean-style Chinese restaurant, this is the place I go to experience the taste of Korea. I always eat tangsyuk, jjajang, and jjamppong, but I wanted to try something new, so this time I ordered palbochae and five-spice sauce. The ingredients for Palbochae were very fresh, and I could taste every single taste, so I enjoyed it. The meat of Five-Hyang Jang-Yuk was really light, so it tasted much better than most boiled meat. I think Im really thankful that Nolvan has Gahyangru^^
I decided to try out this place and it did not disappoint. I had the jampong and the broth was so delicious!!! It had prawns, clams and lots of squid and the flavour was spot on. After I entered the restaurant, it got super busy but the waitresses handled the situation really well. I cant wait to go back to try the jajang myun.
Very good
May be one of my favorite places to eat in Vancouver. Great food, great prices and great staff.
This is my second visit and it s delicious~~!
Very busy, and for good reason as its indeed very yummy. Giant plate of Jam Bong
My son loves Gahyangru Samseon fried rice. We order it often. Thank you again today~^^
I stopped by this place because I really wanted to eat Korean Jjambbong during my two-day stopover in Vancouver, and it was really good. I went to this place with no expectations of the taste, but it was so delicious! A taste that completely targets Korean tastes!!! The staff here are very friendly and Korean, so I felt like Korea for the first time in a while. Highly recommended for those who missed Korea during their trip to Vancouver! In the photo, I took a picture with a little less vegetables, but there were a lot of ingredients and the noodles were perfectly cooked! The fried dumplings were just okay. Personally, it tasted much better without adding vinegar to the soy sauce!
I can t speak more highly of this restaurant. It is THE favourite restaurant in lower mainland for our family. We live in Vancouver West and it takes us about an hour one way on the way. And we always go. With two teenagers children it is almost impossible for them to go to any restaurants with us, let alone one that would take at least 3 hours. They always asked to bring them there. That s how good the food is! Spicy chicken and jajangmyun is our favourite dish. Today I had work scheduled in West Van, and my son s first response is: take out spicy chicken! And their portion is HUGE.
The lunch special I had as a friend introduction was the best. I could taste a variety of foods at reasonable prices and sufficient amounts. All of the servers are so nice. Im planning to visit again soon. Thanks Ga hyang ru
I really like Gahyangru food. The Baek Jjamppong here is delicious!!!! Its moderately sharp and clean, which makes it different from regular Jjambbong. Sweet and sour pork is a must..!
Use delivery Ordered Jajangmyeon, Jjambbong, and sweet and sour pork. it is delicious. Scrape the jajangmyeon all the way to the bottom. There was a review that said there was a little less meat inside, but there was a little less meat. Still delicious. Jjamppong is also spicy and delicious. Theres a lot of squid and shrimp. There are also well-cooked clams. (The onion was a little tough and had some burnt parts) However, this was all okay. lol Since the sweet and sour pork is for dipping, I asked for the sauce separately. Its crunchy and delicious. I left this because I was full. ^^ The delivery person was also very friendly. (Using Uber Eats) The ride takes about 40 minutes. (So, the noodles were slightly swollen and stuck to each other) The kids said we should go and eat next time. Good~ I also like courage. The picture isnt uploading. Too bad...
This restaurant... First of all, I think the lunch special menu is the best value for money in Vancouver. But when it comes to dinner... um... the cost-effectiveness is shit... Honestly, I think soy sauce and jjamppong are the best in Vancouver. But the dishes... The taste is average or above average, but its really not good value for money. The regular size portion is too small... The large size is the regular size portion at other Chinese restaurants, but I feel like the price is about 30% more expensive.
This is a place I often go to with my child since we visited North Van last year. Of all the Chinese restaurants Ive been to in Vancouver, this is by far the best Jajangmyeon restaurant. In particular, the soybean paste unijjajang and sweet and sour pork are very delicious. Above all, thanks to the friendly owner and the staff who always serve us, we always feel full and warm even when living abroad. Thank you for always delicious food. May you prosper.
This is my favorite home where my child wants to be rewarded when they do something good. It s also a house I miss when I think of Korea. I am satisfied with the food, service, and cleanliness. Be sure to try it..^^
Its so nice to be able to eat plentiful and delicious food like in Korea. The Lunch Special, which can be ordered until 3pm on weekdays, seems to be great value for money. They say its a half-size combination, but it seems like theres a lot more jjajang, jjamppong, and fried rice than the half size. Highly recommended!!! I love it because its hearty and delicious like in Korea. Lunch Special, which can be ordered until 3 p.m. on weekdays, is the best for the price. Its a half-size combination, but jjajang, jjamppong, and fried rice seem to be much larger than half-sized.
As the saying goes, I give it a thumbs up!! Light and crispy sweet and sour pork, black bean paste & jjamppong are also classic~~ Its worth visiting from afar. + I felt better because of the kindness that brightened up the gloomy Raincouver^^
Small mom and pops store. Big portions so good for families. Hands down the best jajangmyeon in the Lower mainland. Their jambong is also really good but be warned it s quite spicy.
The sweet and sour pork here is really delicious and the staff is very friendly.
The meat is juicy and there are a wide variety of side dishes so you wont get bored. The interior is spacious and has a casual atmosphere that can be enjoyed even by groups. Im glad that the staff is friendly and you feel like the service is attentive. The price is reasonable and the cost performance is good, so its perfect for everyday use! If you like Korean food, I think its worth visiting at least once.
I devoured everything I ordered because it was so delicious The person who served me was also very kind. Ill come again!
Amazing food! Super authentic, will definitely be coming back!
In the evening, it was my second birthday, so I had kkanpunggi. I had Jjajangmyeon and Jjamppong, and the Kkanpunggi was used as a sweet sauce. My wife said it wasnt spicy at all, so I thought someone must have compressed it so it wasnt spicy... When I got home and searched for Kkanpunggi sauce, I found out that it is a food that is cooked spicy using red pepper powder and red pepper oil. Hmm... then what did you eat today? Haha..I heard it s just sweet? ...
The Jjajingmyeon smells like pork, probably because it was made from frozen Jjajang sauce that was heated up. The soup at Samseon Jjamppong had a sour taste, but compared to regular Jjamppong, it only had three clams and one shrimp. And the fried dumplings were at a level that made me wonder if they were fried commercially frozen dumplings rather than homemade. Ive been to this place occasionally for over 10 years, but it seems like the owner has changed as it looks a lot different from before.
I recently visited after being recommended by an acquaintance. Ah...I came to Canada and ate the jjamppong of my life... This is not pre-made jjamppong that has died. Jjamppong is made on the spot and has a crunchy texture and a fiery taste... and in Vancouver... I didnt even drink alcohol, but I feel like Im having a hangover. Sweet and sour pork is originally made with a dip, but even if you eat it with a dip, the fries are crispy all the way through and moist on the inside. I highly recommend eating it with rice!! Even though the store was hectic, the staff was very friendly and the food was great. It feels like all the food is made on the spot! It takes a while, but its worth it. I have a long-established sensibility.
Always good food and service. Thank you Food : 5/5
Grabbed takeout. Excellent food, such happy staff. Will go back!
Hands down best Korean Chinese food in greater Vancouver. I dont live in North Van but would come out of my way to come here for their lunch specials and then look for the next opportunity to drop by when in the area for errands. The sweetest service here as well. If only I lived closer!
Great!! This restaurant is one of my best in my life It s really delicious!
The foods are very delicous!
They got me a kitkat black bean noodle very yumyum
If you are looking for Korean comfort food in North Van, this is it! Perfect spot to go after a hike for lunch or dinner! You have to get their original jam bong, one of the best Ive had! Parking: Free parking in the back and side streets.
Gahyangru Chicken (Kkanpunggi, Rajogi) that is always delicious to eat Squid rice bowl that I always remember and cant help but eat again
Recommended dishes
Bit of a wait time but definitely has the best and ! Unfortunately the noodles are bloated more often nowadays and the spiciness of the does seem to have decreased over the years but Id still come here over anywhere else.
I will be coming here a lot more! I ve wanted to come here for around 5 years now but never got to it. I finally did and I m so sad that I never went sooner. It is the most cozy and at home eating with your grandma kinda environment. The people were so polite and amazing. And very understanding. They did their best the satisfy our needs and they did an amazing job at that. They gave us aprons so we don t get our clothes dirty. Which was very kind of them. And the food is so delicious and cozy. It s amazing to have on a rainy day. Very delicious and homey. I love it very much and I will bring my friends here. Don t even get me started on the prices! They are reasonable especially in Vancouver!!!! When you go out in Vancouver to order food usually it s $25 above. The regular black bean noodles and the 8 fried vegetable dumpling cost $27 all together. It s very fulfilling. I would recommend to go and support them. Best Korean soul food in North van and honestly in Vancouver where the price is reasonable :)) if you are wanting home made food made with love then go here. Parking: There are 90 min parking beside the restaurant and if you go further down even 2hour parking. If you go in any of the lonsdale streets there usually is parking :)
I dont often post food because I prefer to eat it right out of the store, but it was delicious even when I got home. ^^ They served me kindly, so I felt good the whole time I ate it. The food was delicious and the service was good, so I would like to give it more stars! Thank you for listening to my requests when ordering ^^
I stopped by after visiting Grouse Mt after hearing about a delicious Chinese restaurant. The sweet and sour pork was soft and plentiful and had no foul odor, the soybean paste was full of fiery flavor, and the jjamppong was spicy and refreshing. Even though all four of us were not hungry, we finished our meal deliciously. I am completely satisfied with the friendly service that continued even though it was busy. I will definitely visit again on my next trip to Vancouver. Highly recommended!
This is a restaurant that my 8-year-old son has visited three times. My sons favorite restaurant is usually the Michelin Bob Gourmand restaurant in Seoul. (Ha Dong-gwan, Woo Rae-ok, etc.) Sweet and sour pork, Jjajangmyeon, and Jjamppong are not lacking even in Chinese restaurants in Myeong-dong, Seoul. The liver and fries are just right. If you look at black and white chefs, seasoning is everything, and even the side dish radish radish is seasoned just right. Im curious about other dishes, but my son is really into sweet and sour pork, so I havent had a chance yet, but Im looking forward to it.
Love the fried chicken and mapo tofu at this restaurant. Friendly service and efficient
Delicious food and friendly service!
Good to place if you need Korean Chinese cuisine in North shore. They know what they are doing
I think Gahyangru is the best Chinese restaurant in Vancouver. When you want to taste the same taste you had in Korea, I recommend this place
I went to most famous or Chinese restaurants, from Nolvan to Surrey, but there was no real Korean Jjamppong like this one. It tastes bad~~~ And the hall server is really kind! Highly recommended!!!!
Very authentic food Good quality Good value Food : 4/5
One of our favorite restaurants in North Vancouver. Very friendly servers, the foods tastes awesome. Highly recommend!
PERFECT Crispy chicken, PERFECT sauce
The dishes at this Korean restaurant are very generous and cost-effective. The environment is quite satisfactory. If the weather is good, it is recommended to sit outside for a better atmosphere. The portions at this Korean restaurant are generous, offering good value for money. The environment is fairly average, but if the weather is nice, I recommend sitting outside for a better atmosphere.
The sweet and sour pork was delicious and the sauce was thick and delicious. The portions are generous and very satisfying! Jjamppong is full of seafood
Jajangmyeon, sweet and sour pork, kkanpunggi, and jjamppong were all delicious. Especially the kkanpunggi that was made less spicy because children ate it was lighter. I recommend it if you re in the mood for a Korean Chinese restaurant!
Perfect! I love it!
taste of korea
A place where you can taste Korean Chinese food in North Vancouver. Sweet and sour pork, spicy jjamppong, and tray jjajang. Delicious place. The price is a little expensive, but the food and service are above mid-range.
This is the place I go to when I want hearty and delicious Chinese food.
Restaurant
Great Korean spot! Always happy with my order. The staff is very friendly as well. The space is a little small but it s just fine!
I ordered sweet and sour pork with soybean paste and it was delicious~ However, there was too little meat in the soy sauce. It was about $5 more expensive than just Jjajang, but it only contained onions, which was a bit disappointing. I would like to recommend the sweet and sour pork.
Too much sugar, Too sweet. Uni Jja jang myun.
The soybean paste and sweet and sour pork here are really delicious. Best eaten with jjamppong soup!!
Kkanpoongyuk truly tastes like heaven!! That alone makes me want to come back again. And the most perfect server Ive ever seen in my life... If youre the boss of the person who worked at lunch on the 9th, sell a lot, and if youre an employee, get a bonus!! The server was very sensible and not burdensome. Thanks to you, it was my first visit and I enjoyed it
Food portions were great, with reasonable prices.
The food is delicious and they are very friendly ^__^ If you are Korean, definitely go there when you crave Chinese food.
The sweet and sour pork restaurants tray jjajang was just so-so.
A family of 4 visited for lunch and ordered Jjamppong Jajangmyeon Sweet and Sour Pork. I ate it, but the sweet and sour pork smelled too much like pork, so I couldnt eat it... Its not just me, my whole family is like pork instead of meat. It smells bad, but we keep silent for fear of ruining the meal, but when I say it stinks, everyone starts talking about it. I ruined a long-awaited family meal.
Three peices of seafood in large sized jjambbong soup dish. Not a good service, had to wait and wave to get waitresses attention many times. Not going back.
The jjamppong was spicy and spicy, and the noodles were chewy and delicious. Sweet and sour pork was crispy and the meat was soft and good. Unfortunately, the Jjajangmyeon was a bit disappointing, but no one ordered Jjajangmyeon other than our table. I think the main menu items are sweet and sour pork and jjambbong. it is delicious!!
One of my favourite Korean-Chinese fusion cuisine located in North Van. The portion is generous, great customer service and excellent taste. You must try the Tangsuyuk! (Sweet and sour pork)
We are regular customer of this place because this place is the best place in Vancouver
Food is way too sweet..
Might be the best jjangmyeon in town, except some times they put too much onion, and not a lot of jjang, but when this doesn t happen, then it is easily among the top 3 restaurants to eat jjangmyeon Jjampong is top notch, you will find a good number of squid pieces in the soup, the soup itself is spicy and great flavour The deep fried pork with the sweet and sour sauce is quite nice, you actually taste the pork not the oil of the bread, add the chili sprinkle to add more flavour
I give Ganjajang five stars. I recommend Gahyangru Ganjajang if you want to try Jjajangmyeon and Iwaingmyeon, which are really spicy and delicious. Its definitely stir-fried and has a lot of meat and onions, and its a taste that keeps me thinking. The Kkanpunggi is average, but it s a shame there are no vegetables at all. For your information, Vancouver Kkanpunggi seems to have delicious mulberries in Rohheed.
Jjajangmyeon, it doesn t taste like regular jjajangmyeon. Its a Jajangmyeon that tastes like Jjawang, made at home with Chunjang (chunjang). Jjambbong is delicious and the servers are friendly.
Not too bad of a place, good actually good staff were polite.
Portions are very generous and the people there are very nice. Taste good and very close to what you ll get in Korea for Chinese Korean food. I love the tangsuyuk because its so crispy, they separated the sauce also and as usual you can debate your friends whether you want to pour or dip it lol.
We accidentally found this restaurant after a study session at a friends home near by. It was the first time two of my Japanese friends had Chinese-Korean style cuisine and it was the perfect place to introduce them. Ive been to many Chinese-Korean style restaurants, but this location (from what I know) is the ONLY place that allows you to order Tangsuyuk/Kanpoongi/Lajoki in REGULAR or LARGE size. Really appreciate the size, portion difference, and prices. We ordered the Kanpoongi, Jijangpong, Samsung Jianpong (extra spicy), and lastly the Uni Jiajangmyun. The kanpoongi was one of the best dishes I have ate. Living in Edmonton, this dish was one of my go tos and the last restaurant (Korean BBQ House) that had it closed. Living in Vancouver Ive tried to find this dish again and I think I found it. This restaurants kanpoongi is literally the best thats comparable to the one I have in memory of my favorite restaurant back in Edmonton. Even for a regular portion, the amount we got was plenty, sauce was quite different from what I had, but it was a unique and stood out to me. I absolutely loved this. The Jijangpongs were 5 stars all around. The soup was spicy, and had a rich seafood flavor that stood out more than other places. Noodles seemed to be freshly made? The amount of seafood was quite generous, was very surprised by this. Portion size? Seafood? Spiciness? Taste? Total wins across the board. I would come here nearly every day if I could, but unfortunately I live in a different part of Vancouver. The Jiajangmyun was also a banger. The sauce was super thick, and rich with meat and veggies. Portion size was again, generous and delicious. What a gem weve stumbled on, my friends had Jijangpong and Jijajangmyun in Japan many times, but what they had here completely changed their experience. We left stuffed, and made plans to visit again - or perhaps even try delivery.
It is very delicious!!!
If you re looking for really good Korean style food stop by really stop by!!!! but if you looking for fancy place look elsewhere where! Good good service. Chill place
I really really really wanted to love this place. Even after they accidentally gave me meat or seafood in my vegetarian black bean noodles multiple times, I kept going back to try to satisfy my craving and I kept being disappointed. Weve ordered from here three times on doordash and there has always been a mistake and weve had to come back to get it changed. We lose so much of our time trying to get what we ordered that its not worth it anymore. Especially, when we call and ask them if we could have it remade, which they did for us, but they suggest that we didnt order vegetarian when we did. I dont know if its a language barrier thing but I would say be open-minded to it if you dont have any modifications to your order. They do have generous portions! The black bean noodles are very heavy on the onion if you were interested in ordering it. They could also use some more sauce to properly coat the noodles. The restaurant itself is very cozy and homey.
What a fabulous food here!! Friendly servers, tasty orders, a clean table... thats why Eating lunch here is my old routine whenever I came to Vancouver. I love this vistro so much. Deepfried chicken and Rice& Squid, those are my favorite. Can not pick one, tho Kid-friendliness: They have high chair for baby
Jjambbong and sweet and sour pork are so delicious that you don t even think of Korea. Highly recommended! **The chef may have changed around the summer of 2023, but the sweet and sour pork is not as good as before. I wont go there again after that.
Gahyangru s Ganjjajang was excellent. Of course, the fried sweet and sour pork was also really good. It was a good food that suited my taste, with both crunchy and chewy texture, something I couldnt find anywhere near Vancouver. However, I have not yet been able to verify whether this quality will always be maintained, so I will leave a comment later. However, what I think is disappointing about this store is After washing the dishes, food comes out on dishes that havent been dried yet, Even with the dishes I bought at IKEA, many of them have teeth. Its something like food being served to the state. The mistake many restaurant owners make is that I think the places where it is okay to use dishes are Vancouver or North America. With the comment, Well, even if you go to another Canadian restaurant, Inaga bowls are served the same way. What~~~!... Shall we tell Gordon Ramsay what happened when he handed out the empty plate to the customer? Theres an uproar. The words I tried to express my hope for Vancouver to become a place where people can learn only good things and eat only good things were too long. Anyway, I hope you will think that I wrote this with more love because it is a rare restaurant that has a food philosophy and even runs Nanjawans, which others dont bother to do. If there is any good development next time, I will leave a review again.
Its the best. Its hard to find a Korean-style Chinese restaurant like this in Canada, but its really delicious, especially the shaved radish that comes as a side dish... Its better than in Korea... The staff is so friendly and the prices are affordable, so I really like it!!!
Delightful, delicious lunch. I had Jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup). A refreshing, fiery daikon radish appetizer was included. The Jjampong portion was generous, full of seafood. The noodles in the savory chicken broth were perfectly el dente. The lovely staff is kind, efficient, and friendly. Just a small restaurant, easy to pass by, but what culinary wonders can be found here.
I went back after a long time and it was still so delicious.. I ordered black bean noodles, vegetable jjamppong, and sweet and sour pork, and they were all good. In the past, Jjajangmyeon didnt seem to have potatoes in it, but it did contain potatoes and it felt like there was a lot more meat Jjajang with potatoes It was really good, it was like old-fashioned Jjajang. Sweet and sour pork is a taste that I fall in love with every time I come to eat it.. Vegetable Jjambbong is clean, spicy and awesome Please continue the business for a long time..
2024.02 Jjambbong and sweet and sour pork set are delicious. Of course, the amount of sweet and sour pork in the set menu is small. Jjajangmyeon tastes like home-made jjajangmyeon, so it feels a little different from what you get at a restaurant.
Oh, this place is so delicious. Its so delicious that people come from quite a distance. I had a really delicious meal today too... The meat in Jjajangmyeon is a bit serious. It was really, really hard. It was so hard and chewy that I thought it was made from dried beef jerky. It wasnt like this originally... I hope it returns to its original taste... Ill come again
A real Korean-style Chinese restaurant I found in North Vancouver. The crispy sweet and sour pork and spicy jjamppong are the best. Taste it once.
Service is bad, cant even order
This is our familys all-time favourite Korean restaurant!
Oh, its really so delicious. There is a lot of quantity Baek Jjamppong is the best
Is it because it is the only Chinese restaurant near Nolben? Or maybe it was busy the day I went? It was a bit messy, but the price was a bit high compared to the food.
Jjamppong is delicious. Jjajang seems to be average. However, the taste of sweet and sour pork and kkanpunggi is similar to that of other Chinese restaurants... but the quantity and price are great haha. Its not that the taste isnt bad overall... but its definitely a bit more expensive than other Chinese restaurants, and the quantity is a bit... Even taking into account the rise in prices, the price has risen too much. If the price is raised, I think the food quality, interior atmosphere, and service should also rise to match the price... Umm...
The taste was not bad, and it was good to have an outdoor terrace in summer.
Great food ! Great service!
Iy used to be better noodles. Black noodle was too dry and champong was not tasty like before.
Came to this hidden gem a few times and the food and staff is consistently amazing. Probably the best tangsuyuk and jjabbong around.
good korean food
To be honest, the taste was average, but the young male server was so friendly and I would like to visit again because of the friendly service. I had a pleasant meal thanks to the male server. thank you
Good service and tasty foods
Tastes good. Recommend it. Many Korean people eat here. Have 5 parking places behind the restaurant.
Jjambbong
I recommend eating at the restaurant, especially Tang su yuk! (It gets soggy and the taste changes) My kids complained that there were too many onions in the Jambong. Still a good place to eat.
Got L5 for take out, the spicy noodle soup tastes so good with a strong smoky flavor and just the right amount of pungency. The batter on the sweet and sour pork is light and remains crunchy even after 30 min. The pork bits were marinated very well as I can taste the spice without dipping them with the sweet sauce. Adding sauce on top creates a even better balance between salty and sweet. Everything was so well packaged, with sauce/ soup being separated from pork/ noodles, which helped preserve the flavor and texture of food. Got all these for $24 which can easily feed me for 2 meals. All of the customers in the restaurant were Koreans when I went there. A proof for u to go check it out if u haven t
Jjamppong and Jjamppong are both delicious. Especially the Jjamppong soup is quite delicious. However, the noodles were very disappointing. They had no strength and broke easily. Very good to eat with rice
I waited and ate, but the hygiene was really poor and they were very unfriendly.
This is a truely mixed review. The food was great, but the dining experience needs some improvements. There s a reason this is a long review, stick with me The Menu is intimidating for anyone not VERY familiar with Korean food. It looks very expensive, but the portions are very large. Honestly too large. Every single table left with takeaway containers when we dined there. Usually this isn t an issue but with most menu items starting at $30+ for regular size (big enough for 2 to share) and large size for $40+, the menu would benefit from smaller, less expensive portions. This would also make it a bit easier for folks to try some of the more traditional dishes without committing $40 or more for a single dish (without rice). They also have an atrocious alcoholic drinks selection with just Kokanee, Budweiser or Soju. They would really benefit from some craft beers not hard to find with a craft brewery 2 doors down! The combination of some cheaper menu items (fried chicken or any appetisers for less than $30 please!) and some craft beers would be absolutely spectacular. They have a great patio for a summer evening, and there s so much potential if they made some tweaks to their menu. I had a lot of time to think about this review as we waited over 45 minutes for our only dish (Pork Tang Su Yuk), they forgot our dumpling order, and when I asked for a second serving of rice it took another 5 minutes to come out even though there were no other diners at that point. They must have been busier than usual (although there were a few tables free) and all the other tables were also waiting a really long time for service. But after all that, the pork was very fresh, hot and crispy, the sweet and sour style sauce on the side was good, and there were some tasty side pickles. The regular size was enough for 2 hungry people. TL/DR: It took me a long time to finally dine at this longstanding local restaurant, and I hope to go back again if there are some tweaks to the menu sizing and pricing, better drinks on offer, and speedier service.
I like their seafood Jjamppong.
We ordered sweet and sour pork (L) and jjambbong (R), which we ate together with two adults and a 6-year-old child. It was just filling and good. The sweet and sour pork was crispy and really delicious, and the jjamppong was not spicy, so I enjoyed it. (But it seemed like the sweet and sour pork came out in size M. There was a huge difference in the amount compared to the table next to me. I guess there was sweet and sour pork in a size larger than L or it came out in size M by mistake.) The sweet and sour pork batter was thin and the meat was thick, so it tasted like fried meat, making it even more delicious. thank you
In overal not bad. The tastes and prices are reasonable.
I ordered red pepper japchae... but it was full of green peppers. A little frozen shrimp and 12 pieces of pork... just . I think it would be more correct to call it stir-fried green pepper and oyster sauce.. I went there because it was a good restaurant, but I was very disappointed... They say they make it this way at their store... Only those who have never had red pepper japchae should try it....
Its a very ordinary small Chinese restaurant, but the food and taste are very serious. Im confident that the taste is at least so good that you wont want to go to Korea and eat Jajangmyeon! I still remember the restaurant I happened to visit while traveling. Especially the kkanpunggi is really delicious! It was very similar to the kkanpunggi from the Gochusarang restaurant I used to eat on Robson Street when I was a college student.
Worst Chinese restaurant in my life. Worst Jjamppong of my life. The soup of the jjamppong is bland and the noodles are not very tasty. Compared to the price of the stir-fried jjamppong, I wonder if they are playing with food, but I end up eating only a few strands of noodles. The cost-effectiveness is incredible. I asked for a napkin 4 times, but they didnt listen and gave me only a small amount. The customers are sweating so hard, but they use up the air conditioner so they dont turn it on when they leave. Have people who say this place is delicious have their tongues cut out? Haha, everyone, eat Korean food in Korea. Instead, spend that money and go to one of the many Japanese restaurants in Vancouver! Well then, bye bye ^^7
The must-visit Korean-Chinese fusion restaurant in North Van! This place serves the best Jajangmyun (black bean sauce noodle) in town, covering Downtown Vancouver, the Vancouver area, and the North Shore. Their Gan Jajangmyun (stir-fried black bean sauce noodle) is a standout, with wok-seared onions and other ingredients, adding an extra seared flavor that awakens your tastebuds with every bite. The result is a rich and savory experience that will leave you craving more. Equally enticing is their Jjampong (spicy seafood noodle soup), where the wok-seared seafood and vegetables infuse the broth with a unique smokiness and depth of taste. The fiery spiciness is beautifully balanced with the umami goodness from the wok-fried ingredients, creating a tantalizing symphony of flavors that you wont soon forget. And dont forget to try the Tangsooyook (deep-fried pork tenderloin with sweet and sour sauce) - its crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and astonishingly, theres absolutely no undesirable pork smell! Achieving this level of perfection in a pork deep-fry dish is a testament to their culinary prowess. Served with a delightful sweet and sour dipping sauce, its a true culinary delight, worth crossing the Lions Gate bridge and braving the traffic jam for!
Im going to Nolben from Richmond to go here haha. Its always delicious
If you like spicy Jam Bong - spicy seafood in soup - you should really try this place. Extremely tasty soup with not a single drop of oil in it, and the texture of the noodles is amazing. You can order the lunch special with spicy fried chicken as well. Not the cheapest at about $24 but then money well spent as the portion is generous. Service is always with a smile. Parking: Some spots reserved for restaurant parking at the back
Cute little hole in the wall, favourite black bean noodles in North van, staff are polite and accommodating. Lunch special is on point, so yummy for good price
Came based on the stellar reviews for there Chinese Korean dishes. We ordered the Ja Jang Myun and Jam Bong for dinner. Our noodles were over cooked and a tad too soft. The Jam Bong broth was too sweet for my taste and surprisingly lacked wok aroma. The Ja Jang Myun was average at best. Maybe they had an off day but food was just average.
Its a local Chinese restaurant, so whenever I want Chinese food, I used to stop by, but Im disappointed every time I go. The noodles were so dry that I had to separate the noodles from the sauce . The sweet and sour pork is hard, no matter how many times it was fried. I went for 3 servings of soy sauce and pickled radish. Only 6pcs were packaged.
eh... not what it used to be tbh
Average
Jajangmyeon, sweet and sour pork, and kkanpunggi were all okay, and the jjamppong was fiery and delicious. I also enjoyed the black bean paste rice. I think its good to have a lunch menu. However, the soybean noodle soup was really bad. I like soybean noodle soup, so I often make it simple at home, but the taste I got here was really just like tofu mixed with water. The soybean soup is not as creamy as it is in Korea, but the water and ingredients are separated... I was disappointed because there was no savory taste.
I keep thinking about the best restaurant in Bencuber, so I go there three times a week!!!
I am writing a review because I remembered it on my second visit! Jjamppong and sweet and sour pork are better than jjajang! However, it was disappointing that there was a slight difference in taste every time I went.
This has always been what I thought was the best Chinese restaurant in all of Vancouver. Ive been going here for a long time and the food tastes pretty good. I went twice recently and the food tasted completely different. When I used to go here, I couldnt taste the seasoning even after eating, so it made me feel less nauseous and it was a place that really had the taste of Korea, but now its just like other Chinese restaurants in Canada, with a lot of seasoning and the worst taste. Jjajangmyeon, omelet rice, and jjamppong all tasted different from before. Foods that only taste full of seasoning. The most expensive price in Vancouver. The worst thing was the sweet and sour pork sauce. This was the strangest tasting sauce I had ever tasted for the first time in my life, as it came out in clumps and didnt mix well. I carefully asked the clerk and he said that there are several chefs and that they change each day of the week. I think the previous chef no longer works here. I was such a fan that I had to travel far to find it because I missed the old taste, but its really disappointing. A return visit will likely be difficult in the future.
The smell of sweet and sour pork is strong. I saw other customers at the restaurant complaining about the smell. I think the smell may be a matter of personal preference, but even my family, who usually just eat it, couldnt eat it, so I left it behind. The sweet and sour pork was so cold that it couldnt even be dipped in sauce and it came out like rice cake.
Its so delicious I dont want to go there again
I am thankful that I can eat this level of food in Canada.
The owner is so nice~~ I enjoyed my meal!!!
Best Korean Soul Food Best Service Food
Lovely little place with friendly people
Ive been a regular at Ga Hyang Ru, our familys favorite Korean-Chinese restaurant. Its a popular spot among Koreans for authentic tangsuyuk, jjajangmyun, and jjampong. Personally, I find their tangsuyuk and jjampong to be the best in town - truly unmatched in flavor and quality. Additionally, the spacious parking is a big plus, making each visit hassle-free. Highly recommend for anyone craving delicious Korean-Chinese cuisine!
Perfect
Good korean chiness food.
Amazing food amazing Cook, amazing people.
A small hidden gem in North Van! Choices of delectable Korean-Chinese dishes! Jajangmyun( ) is a must try - noodles go down like silk (not sure anyone else feels the same way? )
I really enjoyed the sweet and sour pork. Overall, the food was good in terms of quantity and seasoning. However, considering the size of the small restaurant, the servers seemed really busy because they were not properly trained. When I ordered it, I wanted to order soy sauce, but they kept talking about it being a long fast, so I had a strong feeling that I shouldnt order it. They don t even bring me water. It seems that the request to make the jjamppong spicy that my group ordered was not properly conveyed to the kitchen.
This place is definately a hole in the wall, its tiny but the food is sooooo good. So authentic. Everyone was Korean and I mean even all the tables were full of Korean customers. Its such a hidden gem. I wish they had a bigger restaurant their food is amazing. I got the vegetarian jajangmyeon and my husband got the mapotofu which he said he loveddd as well. DEFINATELY coming back.
This is a nice spot to go for lunch! The waiter was nice and the food came quick. I ordered the jajangmyun it s definitely not the best I ve tried, but it was still quite tasty! The noodles are chewy, long, soft, and of medium width. The sauce is sweeter than Chinese jajiangmian and has lots of onions(which are the only vegetable in the dish). The only critique I have is that maybe there could ve been more pork because there were only very little bits of them.Other than that, the noddles were absolutely delicious! The size is fairly big though, I ordered regular size and was enough for two meals good deal!!! I will for sure be going back soon
Took out 3 dishes totalling close to $100 Worst tasting
Sooooo delish I love Korea
the best.
So tasty!!
The jjambbong was flavorful and full of seafood. The meat of the sweet and sour pork was soft and the sauce was just like what you get in Korea. However, two small shrimp were damaged in the jjamppong. The sweet and sour pork had a bit of an unpleasant smell, which was disappointing. There was a bit of an unpleasant smell that got stuck in my throat at some point. It was a bit disappointing!
The sweet and sour pork, Baek Jjamppong, and just Jjamppong were all delicious, and the staff were friendly and nice. Why the rating 4.3?
Its been a while since I came here with my family and ate kkanpunggi, black bean paste, and jjamppong. I was satisfied.
Goog price & great korean chinise food.....! ^&*
Called 8:30 pm to order for pickup. Lady picked up the phone and right after (sounds friendly) Korean speech, she realized I didnt understand, she refused to accept my order and said that they are closed, at 30 mins prior the slosure. However, the food are great but prety expensive.
Came for famous Jajangmyun, it was so tasty People were so kind, will definitely come again
The harmony of stir-fried jjamppong and sweet and sour pork... I cant express it in words, try it ^^
1205 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver, BC V7M 2H5, Canada Taste good!very busy in rush time
A few days ago, I received some Kkanpunggi and ate it. Really... .I wanted to go back and get a refund. The soft and moist batter that used to be gone is gone, and there is black, dry meat that looks like its been fried for a few days, and batter thats so hard that you cant even chew it... I was so hungry that I barely ate half and threw it all away... ...Im really disappointed. Not recommended. This is the only Korean-style Chinese restaurant in Nolvan, and I have been using it for a long time, but I dont want to go there again.
Korean style Chinese cousins Very delicious food and kind staffs
Its delicious, but please wash the cushion. I hated sitting down.
I enjoyed Jjijang Jjamppong and Tangshyuk. The server was friendly.
Authentic Korean-chinese food. Friendly staff
Samseon has too much frozen seafood, and even if you use frozen seafood, you should at least give notice; Kkanpunggi is just seasoned chicken. Lastly, the seasoning was too strong.
I stopped by on my way home from Whistler. My parents who ate jjambbong said it was more refreshing than in Korea.
My favourite place to get Korean food!
was excellent it was what I was expected. So crunchy so delicious.. and were so so~good..
Meh
Best jjajangmyeon I have had so far in Vancouver
Huge portions
Awesome
The food smelled nice, we came in at 3 pm Sunday and the servers didnt welcome us and said its their break time. We went to the restaurant besides it. Bottom line, dont come here at 3 its their break time, they will not welcome you
The Jajangmyeon was a bit disappointing, but the Jjamppong soup was spicy and very good. I was also satisfied with the sweet and sour pork. It was nice to be able to eat noodles + fried food as a set menu at lunchtime. The servers were also friendly~
Wow .Totally different wow I have had tangsoyuk from different restaurants in the area and this was by far the best. It was very crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The jampong and jajang rice were very tasty too. The servers were very nice and I had a really goodtime with my 5 star bf
Can t believe we didn t try this place sooner as it s so close to us. Finally ordered takeout tonight and it was soo delicious. We had the jajangmyun, vegetable jam bong and the kimchi fried rice with egg. It was all so flavourful. The jam bong is very spicy, just what I wanted, and packed with a mix of mushrooms and all sorts of veg. The noodles are so nice and chewy. Highly recommend giving it a try! Vegetarian options: Veggie jam bong and kimchi fried rice were amazing
Its delicious, but a bit sweet for my taste. Every time I go, it feels like the servers come by once a minute and ask if Im okay. When I ask him to eat something, he keeps coming back and asking. Even if I make a mistake, I dont say Im sorry or show any signs of regret and Im confident.
Thank you for the friendly service
Best food.
The food is delicious.
The store is small, but it is truly a delicious restaurant. It tastes much better here than most Chinese restaurants in Korea. Tangshuung was the best for me. But if you say its delicious and gulp it down, Im scared to ask for it... But its really delicious.
A lot of Vegetarian selections
