141 2nd St E, North Vancouver, BC V7L 1C2, Canada
Pretty good portion. The cold kimchi noodle is super tasty. I also go the rice wine to go. I hope there’s more selection of beef
Definitely one of the best korean food throughout my 8 yrs in north america Sundae guk was amazing. I liked organ but sundae tasted even better. The soup contained very generous amount of sundae and organs, unlike many other restaurants (even in korea!) these days.
Delicious and authentic Tofu Pork Soup and Kimchi Soup, fast and friendly service. Become one of my favourite place for lunch. Expect a line up sometimes at lunch time or weekend, but it wont last long.
I enjoyed the food, but here’s the problem! After finishing my meal, I went to the restroom, and on my way out, I saw a container full of boiled glass noodles sitting right in front of the always-open restroom door, without a lid on it. At first, I thought it was food waste, but it wasn’t. I was so shocked. I wanted to ask the staff right away, but I held back because I was with my kids. Anyway, what is that? Are they seriously putting that in the sausage? On top of that, the container was really dirty too.
We used to be their big fan, always drive 40mins all the way to this restaurant. Today, we ordered to-go. One dish is almost 30dollars and half portions, compared to the last time we ordered. Nice dishes but very disappointed about their overpriced menu and portion:(
Great location on a non descript street. North Shore. Daughter my foodie girl picked it out. Did not want to eat the the quay. Little walk up hill. Had to wait twenty minutes. Anything good is worth waiting . Here for Wrexham thrashing of the white caps. Fly in from Edmonton for the game. Daughter selected two dishes to share and she nailed. Good fast service. Quality flavours . Ordered medium heat. Daughter nailed it. Watching the front door. Customers signed name on waiting list. Neighbourhood eatery. Next time back we will be back. Wrexham schooled the caps with out Mullin. Very good prices.
Very authentic Korean dishes. My wife ordered the sundae plate, the sauce and side dishes were delicious. I had the bulgogi soup. The bowl was boiling hot. The noodle in the soup were cooked just right. We also had the Makgeolli, chilled and in a kettle. Great experience, service was amazing. We'll be yearling here again for sure.
The shop is small but has a great atmosphere. However, the food was a bit different from what I imagined. Was the beef intestines not cleaned properly? It was full of something that looked like feces, which I found a bit disgusting and didn't eat. The rice wine and other dishes were okay.
The sausage soup was fantastic and very good value. I will add it to my favorite restaurants in Vancouver.
If you eat makgeolli with stir-fried pods, you will faint. A taste you cant even get in Korea. Its in Vancouver. The servers are so friendly and the food is delicious, so this is a restaurant I trust!!
There was a lot of stir-fried pods and it was very delicious. The soup was clean and delicious too. The servers are also very friendly.
I went on a weekday, and the female server was so friendly that I had a good time eating. Personally, the stir-fried pods were really delicious, and the sundae was the size of sundae. The portion was so large that the stir-fried pods and sundae was enough for the three of us. Ill come again next time
Honestly, I was a little disappointed. Ive been to the Sundaeguk because its delicious, but it seems like there are 5 to 15 Sundae soups in one special Sundaeguk, and the meat only contains a lot of liver. And the most problematic thing is that Nurinne in sundae is no joke. *I wonder what kind of dog poop you eat* As a Sundae Gukbap enthusiast, I thought that people who like Sundae Gukbap and those who have not tried it should not go here. My mother even vomited in the bathroom while eating sundae because she couldnt stand it. I absolutely do not recommend it. Dietary restrictions: Be careful of sundae in sundae soup
Its delicious overall Sundae is made from tripe skin, so it may not suit your taste. Dietary restrictions: Gopchang Sundae
I had a delicious meal at Namhansanseong Fortress, which I visited after a long time. The sundae soup and rice were delicious, especially the stir-fried pods were the best.
Enjoyed a bowl of cold buckwheat noodles and the most delicious and premium seafood pancake Ive had. The value of the pancake is worth the higher than average cost. The pots of hot corn tea made sitting outside on a chilly evening quite comfortable and a kettle of Makgeolli was the perfect size for a table of 3-4.
Stir-fried pods and sundae soup are delicious.
I have tried about 15-20 Korean restaurants in BC, here it s my favourite place so far. It tastes like Korea. Staff always sweet, and extra, Chestnut makgeolli to enjoy.
Excellent Korean sundae gukbap place. The gukbap is tasty and rich in flavour. Service was friendly and quick. The restos a bit small so it gets full very quickly. Id suggest going a few minutes before opening (I went on a Thursday 11:25am and there were already 2 parties waiting to be seated). Expect to wait a bit if you come after 11:45am. Starting a bit after 12pm, the parties who came at opening time start to leave so there will start to be turnover. Free street parking is incredibly hard to find but theres plenty of paid parking (Impark) at the back. Really hope this place expands, but also keeps up the good work!
South Castle never disappoint me! I come here at least once a month. Staff is friendly and this is the best korean food in town to meeee
The blood sausage soup, which theyre known for, is to die for. The portion is great, you get plenty of blood sausage, and the soup is hearty and flavourful.
Its a shame I ate it on the last day. Stir-fried pods. Stir-fried beef tripe were delicious. The side dishes were also hehe. The pods were the best. And the owner is so kind and nice.
I had stir-fried makchang, and it tasted like something that had been reheated for a day - it was burnt and hard, and even thinking about it now makes me sick - it smelled - it didnt taste fresh at all... I also doubt that it came out too quickly.
I went to this place because I was craving Korean food and it was delicious. I ordered stir-fried makchang pods in special sundae soup. The store is small. Please be kind, boss. I dont like a lot of offal, but I enjoyed it. I recommend it if you like sundae and makchang :) The side dishes are clean and delicious. The price is a bit high, but the quantity is large. Recommended menu: Sundae soup, stir-fried pods
When I want to eat Korean food, I definitely go to Namhansanseong Opmidang,, Its the best! !
Very good traditional korean cuisine, not a big choice of dishes, but all taste great. My personal favorite is the seafood pancake, that thing slaps
Authentic Korean. Tasty and cheap.
Authentic Korean experiences
I live in Washington so I always stop by whenever I come to Vancouver. The soup and makchang sundae are better than most restaurants in Korea. The prices are really good and the service is always very friendly. When I first went to Makchang Bokkeum about 2 years ago, they didnt have glass noodles, but when I went yesterday, they had glass noodles, and this was also very delicious. May you prosper and continue your business for a long time, sir.
The food is so delicious and the service is so good. The staff must be having a hard time, thank you for your hard work. Thank you and I am eating well. take care.
Buckwheat cold noodles are really tasty, radish and tofu side dishes go well together with their house special soup. Cold rice alcohol drink, whitish in color is quite refreshing. Come early on the weekend if you want to be seated.
I heard that sundae soup is delicious, but I was very satisfied with my first visit! Makchang s sundae is so delicious!!
This is the best place to have the soup of Mak-chang. Tastes better than the one in the motherland Korea, to be honest. The servers are quick and friendly. The food is top quality. I noticed there were a lot of non-Koreans dining here - which I find it very interesting. Anyway, I always want to visit the restaurant whenever I come up to North Vancouver.
I simply dont understand the hype. Maybe my taste is different than other peoples, but this is a ripoff. Foods smell like poop and tastes like poop. It was expensive, but the quantity was... It made me laugh when I got my dish.
The sundae is really soft and delicious! The servers are friendly and the food seems to be really good. I will come again.
I visited around 4:40 on September 14th and ordered stir-fry and soup. The female server with thick lipstick told me not to come out if I didnt want to work. I had to go several times to get tissues and water because my mouth was sticking out. How much space does the store have? Do you need anything? Instead of asking, I went to the counter and asked for a bowl of rice and a take-out container, but he didnt respond and just nodded. I thought he was dumb. The same thing happened to other guests for about 40 minutes. Additionally, isnt it normal for stir-fry to be hot on a grill? I tried to ask because it was cold, but instead of coming to the table, two servers had to wait at the counter to order more, so I just finished eating... The smell is so bad...
Very delicious ! ! The bibimbap is very fragrant and the pig viscera and blood sausage soup is also worth trying, and the price is really affordable! If you go hiking in North Vancouver, you might want to stop by and have a taste. The store is not big, so I don t know if there will be a queue for meals on weekends.
Absolute jam! The staff is very friendly. Food outstanding! Highly recommend!
Tableware (spoon, rice bowl...) is not hygienic. I tried it because it was an unusual menu item. In general, the portion size was small, but it wasnt bad since it was cheap. There are only 3 side dishes, but they taste good. The store is small, but the servers are very busy. The servers have loud voices and are refreshing. They do a good job
.. jhonna delicious
Very nice place. On a weekend it was very busy, so you might have to wait in line a little bit. The soups have different level of spiciness so it s good for someone who can t handle spices very well. The sweet and spicy beef soup was fire soooo good. The service is very fast as well.
Today we visited at 2pm with our family of four. Obviously, we came first and were put on the list first, and we arrived 15 minutes earlier than the second group of 7 people and waited. About 10 minutes later. The male staff member told us that a lady customer in the second group (group of 7 customers) was complaining and told us to wait. He then explained the situation to that group and asked them to decide that there were two seats for two and one seat for three people. They didnt even ask us or ask for our understanding, they just told us to wait and were passed over. It was very unpleasant. Why did you create a waiting list? Im wondering if its okay to pass if there are no complaints.
I havent been to other Korean restaurants in Vancouver, so I cant compare them... Compared to LA or Seattle, its definitely below expectations. As for service, both servers were really friendly... Its just an average Korean restaurant. Nothing more, nothing less.
We werent given a menu after seated, and the restaurant was filled with smoke from the kitchen. The food was not good either (might because Im not Korean). I ordered seafood noodle, the soup tasted flavourless and the seafood inside wasnt fresh.
So authentic and so good! A must for Korean food in Vancouver.
5/5 foods, but has long wait time. I would not recommend here for groups more than 4 people. It has a size that cannot accommodate many people
I just had it today. The seafood tofu soup is the best I have ever eaten in Vancouver! ! The ingredients used are very particular, including octopus legs, dried mussels, fresh clams, and shrimps! The blood sausage is also very delicious! The same goes for the beef intestines. I forgot to take pictures later. It tastes authentic and the waiters are enthusiastic and cheerful! Because I was driving, I bought some rice wine to drink at home, hehe.
Has it changed owners? It tasted the same for 20 years, but the taste suddenly changed.
If you like soondaekook, this is the must go place.
Favourite place to go. Great food and service. Unique Gochang
tasted great. yummy side dishes
This would be one of the best Korean restaurants we ve been to in North America. Very authentic Korean home-style meals. We had seafood & tofu hot soup and bibimbap. All freshly made and well-seasoned. They even served traditional Korean barley tea - very nice especially for wet and cold days. The staff was friendly and attentive. The price was reasonable for the quality and portions of dishes.
Closed at 3pm but didn t show on website. Can only know when you arrive.
They re famous for the blood sausage soup which is what my husband ordered, and he loved it. He paired it with some chestnut makgoli which was bomb. We went right when they opened for lunch on a Saturday which was great as there was a line up soon after. I don t eat blood sausage so I went for the veggie bibimbap. The rice was over cooked and mushy, and flavour was lacking. Would only recommend this place if you can tolerate spicy food.
a tiny korean restaurant had everything i could ask for. Stir-fried pods, sundae soup, makguksu, sundae everything was top notch as well as makgeolli can t complain anything.
I bought a bottle of rice wine from them, but there was only half a bottle left at home; their bottle was either leaking or not sealed, probably. I am so angry, and I will not go again.
Has the owner changed? The quantity has decreased and the radish radish has become less tasty... Its not the same as before. Im disappointed.
This is a place I definitely go to when I crave Sundae Gukbap. This is a restaurant that my whole family loves.
Wish you open later .
Very good Korean cuisine. Very delicious and great service. Highly reccomend in North Van
I ate makchang sundae packaged. It was really delicious, but it smelled a lot like sundae, so people with sensitive skin should be aware of this. All I can say is that it stays open for a long time It was delicious.
Great
So yummy
Before visiting Seattle and Vancouver, I visited this place after reading reviews from many Koreans, but I was very disappointed.... Among the hundreds of Korean restaurants near Washington DC, where I live, this is a decent restaurant.
Soup is so delicious!!!
Cold noodles were good
We often visit this restaurant on our visit. Its one of the few that still stands after all these years. Our way to or back from the Lynn Lake Canyon is this restaurant. It feels good to fill our hungry tummy with a boiling hot soup! Korean blood sausage is always a must for me. Soup and sausage are the must try here! (Interestingly, google is not allowing to upload the photos of the soup and sausage.)
The blood sausage soup is so delicious that my mouth will keep crying.
Food
When in North Van, South Castle is my favourite place to visit. I particularly enjoy their pork tofu soup. They can get busy at times and take out is an option. However soups are probably best for dine in.
We ordered the blood sausage soup and the kimchi cold noodles were both delicious!
Its better than Korea. The sundae was really delicious. Sundae of life~~ Kimchi rolls and noodles... All other food seems delicious too
The spicy soup tastes good. Its not that spicy and good combination with white rice. Also, for the soondae, I think its the best in Vancouver. It was a bit oily but still tastes good. Side dishes were also oily, but it was okay overall.
I am very picky about Korean foods as I was born, raised and lived in South Korea for over 30 years. My mom made everything from scratch including soy sauce, bean paste and red pepper pastes. I m not a fan of Korean food scene in the city of Vancouver. However, in North Vancouver, South Castle is the place I go after a hike or climbing. I highly recommend their blood sausage soup and spicy fried intestines. Quite delicious!! Staff are in general very friendly and genuinely kind. You will feel well taken care of.
One of the best and authentic Korean restaurants in Vancouver.
The sundae and beef tripe were very delicious. The owner has a very good service mind. moved!!!!
2024: Still just as good as back 7 years ago with my review. Great food with the original menus, with a few more added dish over the years. With the amount we are getting, the price is still quite reasonable considering its a post-covid inflation era. We went on Sunday afternoon, and had to wait for 45 minutes! Friendly staff as usual. 2017: The specialty of this place is the Blood Sausage Soup and the Grilled Intestine, and these two dishes is the reason why this place exists. It tastes amazing, and it seems to bring out the memories of home country. A lot of Koreans come here to eat, from students to the elders. On weekends, there could be line ups because the place is really small and they dont take reservations. It can be a hassle. You can see number of Koreans coming all the way from Coquitlam or by Seabus, just to eat this! Luckily I live around the neighbourhood so dont have to take as much effort to come here. I think I go here often only because my friends from other neighbourhoods always beg me to go there. They also do take-outs. Quite an authentic Korean dish you can try as a foreigner! I recommend! p.s. theres another one in Coquitlam but some say its not as good as the N Van location.
We were told we only had 30 mins to eat which is fine, they told us to wait outside and will get back to us. After 20 mins they came out to the front door, stick a note saying break time until 40 mins later and rushed in without saying anything to all the group of people that are waiting (two groups of people left right away being pissed). Google did not mention anything with opening hours (which is completely fine), but at least just be honest and tell us they are not taking any customers at all. Instead of letting us wait cluelessly for 20 mins and said nothing. Was looking forward to try the food here, because my friends said its really good, but man this first time experience will make me never come back. Better off getting something similar in Coquitlam
I waited about 40 minutes to eat it during the day on a Sunday, and it was fresh as it was my first time eating Makchang Sundaeguk. The sundae was soft and delicious. If you eat sundae soup in Korea, you leave out the sundae, but here, the sundae is the best. Its delicious. I also loved that you can adjust the spiciness!
I went hiking on the weekend and visited Namhansanseong Fortress to have lunch on the way down! Perhaps because it was the weekend, there was a bit of a wait, but after waiting for about 20 minutes, I was able to get in quickly after being guided by a friendly server. The special sundae soup and stir-fried pods that I always ordered... were delicious any time I ate them!! I thought there was a new menu item, so I ordered seafood pancake and it was crispy and delicious^^ When I stop by Namhansanseong Fortress, I always feel happy because I feel like Im in Korea and a meal welcomes me :) This is a restaurant you won t regret coming to every day!!! Thank you to the staff who responded so kindly!!^^
I ordered sundae soup and kimchi soft tofu stew and both were delicious. The kimchi soft tofu stew has bean sprouts, and it was refreshing and spicy, so I was able to get my mind off it hahaha. It was one of the restaurants I really wanted to stop by during my trip, so it was a good thing I stopped by. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon and found free parking on the street. There is a break time, so make sure you arrive at the right time.
Best Korean gukbap in metro Vancouver! You need to check this place out if youre around.
Great place to visit if you like Korean soup, I love the family shop vibe here . Will visit often!
2024.01 The food is spicier than I thought. Decrease the spiciness one level at a time. The soft tofu is delicious, but I dont think the pork meat is that good. Bam Makgeolli is sweet.
The employees are rude. They dont come until I order. They dont even come to ask if Im out of side dishes or if I need more water. They dont even tell you where to sit. The robot is more friendly. And then ask for a tip.
I felt a little sick after a long flight, but it was a good restaurant, so I left from Richmond and went there. I arrived early, around 11 oclock, but the warm consideration of asking me to come in and wait and the warm barley tea helped relieve my fatigue. Soon after, sundae soup...omg...Vancouver. Sundae soup... I was thankful to the heavens and enjoyed it so much that my body aches were completely cured^^ I will definitely go next time as I am healing during my one-day stay^^ Highly recommended.
Even better than the food I have within Korea!
The food is good, but parking is so difficult that I dont know if Ill go often in the future. If you are going, please check your parking carefully.
This is one of my favourite restaurant for 15years. There foods are making me happy all the time.
Kimchi sundubu is amazing!! The rice is very good too. Highly recommend this place! Price is also ok.
Pork intestines korean sausage soup is amazing!!!! Taste is good quality of food!! Food
Love their banchan and of course the hot soup!
Stir-fried chewy makchang ends. There are a lot of vegetables, so I can go all the way through without getting tired of it. And I also enjoyed the sundae soup very deliciously. Please open a branch in Seattle.
Dietary restrictions: pork Food
I went there yesterday. The other food was delicious... but it felt like they had given me the same old rice they had given me a few days ago. Does the rice feel dry because it is old? The rice is also hard. I only ate about 1/5 of the food. I thought I was the only one who felt this, but when I got home and talked to everyone, they all felt the same way. It was my first time eating out in the new year, and I was in a bad mood.
The servers are friendly and the food is always delicious!!
Man, I landed on Lougheed in 2016 and tried all the Korean soup around that town. No thing compares to this, especially after Covid. just order number 2 which is their signature soup. This might be the best one in all Vancouver around the price range.
Too rough
I used to come here many years ago and was pleasantly surprised they are still as busy as ever. Made a stop two days ago when I was in the area. They are known for their blood sausage soup. This time it was super hot out and I decided to try something new. Got the kimchi cold noodle and it was worth the wait. Highly recommend coming early before the lunch rush as there are only about 6-7 small tables. Plenty of free street parking.
Sojugak! I cant stand it!
amazing spot for korean food
I just visited after checking all good reviews at google. Wasnt lie ,,,, it is the best gukbab !!!!! Wow..... I want to bring this restaurant to Toronto.. Food : 5/5
When I eat something spicy, my throat hurts like its going to tear, so I asked for the water and makguksu without the spicy seasoning, but they said they wouldnt do that unless I was a foreigner.. Its not like I cant do it at all, so I dont understand why they dont do it... In the end, I ate as little of the seasoning as possible, but there wasnt much difference in taste...
Excellent food and authentic taste. But when placing order for a to-go soup, I wish the owner please ask if the soup needs to be ready to eat or to be boiled at home? She will just say quickly as the soup will be served to be boiled at home before eating every time. Come on, it is a to-go menu at a lunch hour. Who would not want the soup to be ready to eat at a busy lunch time?
The best korean sausage and its variations. Their buckwheat cold noodles are also a must have!! 5 thumbs up
I am not sure if she is the owner. She was super welcoming, and the food was amazing as usual!
Tasty food, and good service. 20$ per person. One of the best Korean food I have had in Vancouver. Difficult parking. Limited dining space, may need to wait a while before being seated as there is a huge lineup. Parking: Very difficult Kid-friendliness: Have child seat
The hall staff were so unfriendly that I moved to another restaurant without even taking a seat. I dont know how it tastes, but I dont want to come back.
Amazing Korean blood sausage and stir-fried spicy pork belly! Portions are huge and they taste amazing! The waitress is very nice but the place is a little greasy.
You enjoyed your meal!
Mul-maguksu was amazing on a warmer day. Side dishes were also great to pair with the main dish. My favourite Korean restaurant for spicy stir-fried intestines for years now
Good.
Love the cold kimchi ramen in here. The sundae was a little bit spicy for me, but generally everything is good.
My friends are die-hard fans of Korean Cuisine and they found that this restaurant specializes in soup served with rice. As I am not a big fan of soup, I ordered a Cold Spicy Noodle. I like the sauce, which was so spicy, so much. The restaurant was a bit small and we had to wait for around 30 minutes to have a seat. We loved the fish cake so much but such a pity that they would refill it once only.
The grilled tripe was so bitter that I couldn t eat it, so I spit it out. They said they would make a new one, but they canceled it, saying that it might be because of the size, so it might be the same even if they do a new one. After singing for a week about eating grilled tripe, I went and ate it, but I was so disappointed. I dont think Ill ever be able to order tripe at this place again. It was the first bitter taste Ive ever felt in my life. Thats on the level of spoiled food. The food I ordered instead of tripe didnt come out after waiting so long that I asked if it would come out and it came out only then. It used to be a place I had only good memories of, but today I was so disappointed that I dont think Ill ever go there again.
Its been a while since I went to Vancouver, so I went there because it reminded me of it, and it tasted even better, the portions were plentiful, and of course it was Namhansanseong No-Van !!! Stir-fried pods are the best!!
Its delicious. The little waiter always rolls his eyes with that damn look in his eyes.
Overall great experience. I got the pork tofu stew and really enjoyed. You also get appetizers - some fish cakes, spicy turnip(?), and pickled soy-marinated onions
Legit Korean small restaurant where the menu is a bit limited. But they have naengmyeon which is so good. They have a bit of icy broth too, which is good!
Authentic Korean restaurant. I d highly recommend !
A gem in North Van showcasing more obscure Korean dishes with their specialty spicy intestine stir fry. Service was excellent as well. Must try.
Not the bbm i like and i try the signature soup i dont really like maybe just not my dish .
So wonderful, so perfect diet. I dont think anyone can appreciate this delicacy except someone with a Korean stomach or a Chinese stomach. The dishes are too authentic to be appreciated by other cultures. The casing of the blood sausage in dish No. 3 is made of pig large intestine. The soup is too hot, it hurts the stomach and is unhealthy. However, if you cool the intestines, it will affect the taste, and it will be too hard to chew. You can dip it in the soup after it cools down and before eating, so that the taste of the intestine will be soft and elastic. The key is temperature.
Their spice rating is accurate: Slightly spicy really is only slightly spicy (basically just seasoned), medium really is medium.
Becarefu it is hot dish! But it is so good so you can put your spoon down until you finish. However, if you dont have any experience about Korean food, it might difficult to try.
My family and I were visiting Vancouver for the first time staying at the seaside hotel in the shipyard. We were craving for some Korean food and found this hole in the wall place. Growing up in Korea during the 70 s, I cannot forget what a good soondae soup taste like from my childhood. I found it again here after 40 years. Nostalgic velvety texture of the soup is lick smacking thick. Pure pork bone along with other parts of porky goodness infused into long hours of boiling turning a simple soup into velvety creamy savory mousse elixir. Couple spoonful of the red pepper dadaeggi pairs perfect with lots of chopped scallion. This soup boiling hot plug heated in an earthen pot. Soup is so outstanding I still cannot forget that first spoonful of goodness in my mouth. I will fly from Philadelphia to Vancouver just to have that bowl of soup. It is that good!! Best part about my trip to Vancouver was this bowl of soondaegguk soup. I felt like Anton Ego from the movie Ratatouille.
I feel this every time I go, its so delicious! The rich flavor of the broth is the best!!
It s not necessarily the best South Korean restaurant in Lonsdale - it just happens to be the only one after Maru shut down and the bbq place also got displaced. They are missing a lot of dishes you d normally find in other Korean restaurants. Like japchae and they don t have beef bulgogi ( only pork). I really like their cold noodles. It s so good in the summer. The servers are really pleasant and there is minimum fuss in service. Looks like a small family run operation and it s good to have them in the neighborhood.
One of the regular go to place for authentic Korean foods
I submitted it because I was going to eat it at the hotel. The person taking phone orders is really friendly. The food is well packaged. delicious and The price is good too - great for people living in Vancouver.
Decent food at decent prices. I wouldn t go as far as to say the food was exceptional but it was still good. Seating capacity is severely limited. I would avoid going during peak hours as you will certainly be on the waitlist.
This is a really delicious Makchang Sundae soup restaurant. The portions are great and the staff provide good service. The only downside is that its so delicious that I always end up overeating it. I have a food coma now and cant drive. Im happy. Have a delicious meal everyone
Love their seafood tofu soup
HK tea needs improvement. Food overall is good.
I visited from afar and it was a very satisfying meal. The male server was friendly and left an impression on me. No matter how good a restaurant is, if I feel it is unfriendly, I wont go back, but this is a place I want to visit again. Needless to say, the taste was delicious. I enjoyed the makchang sundae soup, pods, and grilled beef tripe. Thank you for the delicious food~
Parking is difficult on the street. There is public parking available in walking distance.
I visited on the full moon day of my month-long stay. To me, it was not a restaurant but a healing place for the soul. I think the sundae gukbap and kimchi rolled noodles are better than most places in Korea. The owner is also friendly. (Its difficult to park right in front, but there is a public parking lot nearby.)
There is no table service at all. I want to call if I need it, but they dont even look at me and they even turn on a channel with ghosts on the TV. The screaming on TV and the gloomy atmosphere made me lose my appetite for food. (Is there a store like this?) I miss the taste and service of the old Namhansanseong Nolsban branch. I used to go all the way to Nolvan to eat proper soup, but I dont want to go anymore.
Compared to Coqui Namhansanseong, the sundae soup has a deeper flavor. The taste and service are impeccable, but parking is difficult. If youre lucky, you can park for free on the street right in front for 2 hours, but usually you have to circle the restaurant building twice or, if thats not possible, have to pay for parking. In my personal opinion, if I were planning to visit and eat, I would probably eat sundae soup even if I had to pay for parking.
I went to this restaurant because it was rumored to be a good restaurant, and it was delicious! It was a bit salty for my mouth, but the kids really enjoyed it. I went a little after 1pm on Sunday, and the wait was very long... I waited 30 to 40 minutes, but if the group waiting in front of me hadnt canceled, I would have waited for over an hour.
Hidden gem for Korean hot soup. Soup is packed full of Korean sausage, liver, and others meats, and comes with rice and sides. You get more sides if you eat at the restaurant vs take out. Its delicious and filling. Service is always great.
Small restaurant, fits only about 25 people at a time max, so theres always a line. No online booking, just gotta show up early and write your name. I feel bad for the servers, long waits make people impatient and so they rush to sit people and rush to serve. Only 1 server so it was hard to get a hold of her for just ordering. Food is worth the wait though, had the kimchi cold noodle, perfect for a hot summer day, nice and chewy. Also ordered the blood sausage (will take a bit longer), and my god, that was so unbelievably tender and seasoned, I inhaled that dish. The line deters me a bit, but food makes up for it. Make sure you do have time before lining up.
This is a restaurant where you can always eat delicious food.
First of all, I was so happy to hear a Korean employee answer the phone. I felt like this place was run by a strong Korean. I came here with my friends, and they all said it was one of the top 3 restaurants for sundae soup. The side dishes were delicious and the sundae soup was delicious too. A friend told me about it, so I came here and am satisfied! I recommend it to those who want to eat Korean steamed sundae soup~ > About 2 weeks later, I came back again and ordered sundae (sundae soup) and it felt a bit greasy;; There was a lot of oil floating around so I kept skimming it off. FYI, side dishes can only be refilled once! I dont think its a place I come to often, but I think Ill come here sometimes when I feel like sundae soup~
The staff lady was really friendly and the food is always good!
This place has been on my list for months... And it did not disappoint. The blood sausage & organ soup (w/ rice) was the perfect comfort food. We also ordered the stir fried small Intestine (was translated to tripe in the menu) and it was really good - not overly fatty/greasy. The cold noodles was also very refreshing and flavourful - slightly thicker noodles than other places and still on the chewy side. I highly recommend the cold noodles and blood sausage & organ soup. Will 100% come again and bring friends. Staff was super friendly and kind. They served our food super fast (we were the first ones in when opened). It gets busy during the rush, so expect a bit of waiting - small shop with only a few seats. Price is not bad with the amount and quality you get - worth it! Cant complain.
Korean pork and blood sausage soup with rice and bibimbap are super good.
Hidden gem, if you are looking for authentic Korean cuisine. The line is quite long but it is worth the wait.
It is a very traditional Korean restaurant. The menu has photos for easy ordering. We tried several kinds of offal, including sizzling large intestine, sizzling vermicelli sausage, and blood sausage platter. There seems to be beef tongue, pork tripe, beef or pig lungs in it? We also ordered three kinds of soups. The beef tofu soup is my favorite, as well as the seafood tofu soup and blood sausage soup. Like other Korean restaurants, they all come with side dishes, fish plates, pickled onions and kimchi radish. It is very authentic Korean. Restaurant, will come again next time. Parking: There are a few free parking spaces in front, and there is also an indoor free parking lot in the back. It is on the first floor of the building, but due to the terrain, it feels like a basement.
Warning Highly Addictive Korean Restaurant This is a diamond in the rough, at least in my many years of dining experience. I never imagined that this Korean rice sausage, or sundae you called (whether grilled or in soup) could be so delicious. Nestled in an inconspicuous location with an unattractive storefront, it offers top-tier dishes that keep you coming back for more. This place is worth making a special trip for. The soup version and the grilled rice sausage offer two completely different flavors. What s worth mentioning the most is that there s absolutely no gamey taste! Of course, if you re really not into offal, don t force yourself.
This is the second time! Every time I come, if the three of us go together I eat sundae soup and stir-fried pods. It s so delicious.. You must try the stir-fried pods
Four of us came in while they were busy and the staff quickly put together a table to accommodate us. The service was really excellent. We didnt stay because we realized we were at the wrong restaurant so we left. But the 5 minutes we spent at South Castle Korean restaurant was the best 5 minutes!
You need to eat stir-fried pods regularly.
If you want to eat Korean food, visit! There is a part-time worker who is very kind. The side dishes provided for free were really delicious. Famous Sundae Gukbap (only Sundae): It smells a little, but its delicious. Recommended for Koreans, not recommended for foreigners. Stir-fried pods (spicy): I wanted something spicy rather than mild, so I asked for the regular flavor and it was deliciously spicy! If you eat stir-fried rice later, it tastes faint. Beef tripe: Beef tripe without a lot of oil, and it was really delicious when eaten with the onions, potatoes, and mushrooms that came with it. Kalguksu: It was kalguksu with perilla seeds and I really enjoyed it. It did not taste like cool and clean kalguksu, but rather a kalguksu with the taste of deep soup. Bam Makgeolli: It was sweet and delicious.
Its so delicious
I ordered intestine soup. Im not going to lie, it was reduced to less than half the amount. Bean sprout soup came out. Of course I understand that the price has gone up... but the quantity has been reduced... I think Ill go there again to see if it was just today. If this happens again. I dont think Ill ever go again. Its a place I used to go often, but unfortunately... its heading toward poor value for money. ___________________________________ A year and a half? I left a review before and didnt go for a while, but I remembered it after a long time and looked at the Google review again and saw that the owner had posted a reply. Im sorry I saw it so late. There was a special reason just for that day. Thanks for explaining. I will visit often in the future :) I have been a regular for 13 years. Review has been edited.
best food with good price, rice wine is a must have
This place has some of the best Korean food on the North Shore!
It was a good place for Korean food, unfortunately we got really bad service couple of the times, layout if very inconvenient. Food is good but if you have no place to sit its hard to have a pleasure
The food is really delicious My favorite pick is stir-fried pods. The contents of the special soup are substantial and the banquet noodles are also delicious. But have the employees ever eaten inside the store? Ive been here 3 times since the summer, and all 3 times the food kept attracting flies. I threw it away and ate it. I am leaving a review because I think it would be good to improve this by providing a sticky strap.
Food is delicious to us. Waitresses are accommodating, kind, welcoming, hard working. Place is clean, safe. Theres always a lineup so expect delays to come in. It is wheelchair accessible. Bus nearby, seabus close to the restaurant. $$$ expensive. We go once a year and never regret it.
Amazing Korean food. I approve. I m not usually a fan of , but theirs didn t have any gaminess. Great texture and flavour. was also great. Lots of but no gaminess again. Amazing korean food. We waited for 30mins on Monday during lunch hours but it was so worth it.
This restaurant is very popular, and for good reason! This is one of our favourite places for Korean comfort food. The wait to be seated is sometimes long, but the food comes out very fast after you ve ordered. The staff are always kind and engaged, and the food is reasonably priced with large portion sizes. A hidden gem in North Van!
The atmosphere is not
Theres a lot of odor coming from the sundae. In the end, I couldnt eat it all because of the smell. Since it is an organ sundae, it seems like you need to clean the intestines and use sake or mirin, but I dont think the process is like that. And it is not a blood sundae style, but rather a intestine sundae with a lot of glass noodles. I guess I had too high expectations because YouTubers were raving about it. I dont think Ill visit again because the smell is so bad, but seeing the comments saying the smell has reduced, I might think about visiting again. Other side dishes and service were great.
