1440 Lonsdale Ave, North Vancouver, BC V7M 2J1, Canada
Small unassuming eatery in central Lonsdale! Food overall was good and reasonably priced. Liked their satay skewers the most. They were very soft and juicy. Too bad they sold out rendang but sambal veggies were excellent!
The Singapore laksa here is one of my favourite things to eat in all of Vancouver and I make a special trip whenever I’m nearby. Flavour explosion. Super nice guy that runs the place as well.
This place is always excellent. Food is amazing and service is always good. A bit dark inside, and could use a good dusting. Doesn’t stop us from going. In fact, we are headed there today for laksa. Update **** lighting has been updated. No longer dark. Amazing improvement. Whatever else that was changed, it sure got rid of the dust. If you’ve not eaten here, you’ve seriously missed out in life so far.
Came here from google searches and extremely pleasantly surprised with the malaysian curry laksa. Omg i finished the whole thing with the soup, it’s huge. Packed with seafood. Yummm….More reasons to come back to north van… Louis is super cool. Vibe is good. I found a new go-to for lunch when I’m around!
2024/8/17 Frank and I took Sea Bus to Lonsdale Quay and spent the morning there. We decided to have Laksa for lunch, so Tamarind Hill was picked. We offered Laksa & fried rice and they were good. The average cost per person was around CAD25 tax & tip included.
We ordered satay chicken which was okay but the Laska soup was very good and also Mee goreng was amazing. I really loved it. It looks likes a family owned restaurant. Just the service was not the best.
Update Recently revisited Tamarind Hill and found the food to be excellent, the decor getting a little worn and the service perfunctory. I reckon the server really doesn't want to be there, he was so lacking in interest or enthusiasm. The food, however, was better than ever. Two of us shared the green papaya and mango salad to start followed by Hainanese chicken, mee goreng and eggplant in spicy chili garlic. All served piping hot and in generous portions. The food definitely is worth returning for despite the service issue. Been to Tamarind Hill several times but haven't visited in quite awhile so decided to have lunch there the other day. Three of us shared a mango and green papaya salad, calamari, Hainanese chicken and nasi goreng. The salad was very enjoyable - just a little bit spicy in a good way. The calamari was pretty good, though the portion size was on the small side. Hainanese chicken was very moist and tasty, would order again. The nasi goreng was meh, not a lot of flavour. Service was good and despite arriving under an hour before closing, we were not rushed out. The place is very small and even though only a few tables occupied it was very noisy.
We visited Tamarind Hill twice now and enjoyed our meal there both times. The first time we went for dinner and found it to be quite dark and cold inside. The restaurant is small with not too many tables but enough to still get a seat though it's quite close to each other, which we didn't like. The second time we attended a family birthday party dinner and the seating was again, very tight. They pushed the smaller tables together by the bench against the wall and it was hard to get in and out, especially with a baby car seat. The food was delicious with a large variety of Malaysian dishes. We were glad to see that there were spicy and non spicy dishes, some more flavourful than others. We ordered all kinds of meat and veggie dishes like laksa, satay, coconut rice, fish etc etc. The food was fresh and hot and everyone enjoyed eating. The AC was turned off and it became quite hot and stuffy especially after eating spicy dishes. The service was excellent and AC was turned on promptly. Overall we enjoyed our dinner and will return again.
Great local spot for laksa!
Recommend Raksha and Nasi Goreng. The flavor of the Raksha soup is deep, and the beef in the nasi goreng is very tender.
Great food overall with the exception that I ordered Singapore chili prawns for takeout this week and only got 6 pieces of prawns .
HORRIBLE SERVICE! we reached around 8, approximately 30 minutes before closing. The guy (probably owner) kept rushing us a lot. I ordered Malaysian curry and asked if I can have roti as side order. He said yes and I asked for 2 rotis. He continued rushing so I decided to take everything home. He asked to compress and stuff 2 rotis and chicken satay in one small box. I couldn t do that and asked for 1 more box. He reluctantly gave that. When bill arrived I paid and then noticed that he had charged for that small paper container. Also he charged $10 for each roti in spite of saying it s side order. I have never paid $10 for naan or any side order bread. He never said the small to go box will be extra charge. Such a greedy guy!!
Everything is 5!! Kind server nice atmosphere and FANTASTIC food! The flavors are perfect!! Will come back again.
Great food, especially the nasi goreng
Murtabak with gado gado, and Malaysian laksa
Ordered Malaysian Curry Laksa and the Char Kuey. Completely devoid of of chicken, save for 4 of the smallest supermarket sized shrimps. Such lacklustre effort from a restaurant just doesnt invite you to order a second time. 100% overpriced bowl of spiced soup and not recommended.
Feels close to home. The host felt like someone from home. Food was good but could be a bigger portion for the price. Overall 7/10
Food was great across the board. Prices higher than average. Could find similar dishes for cheaper nearby. Thing that really bugs me was that rice is an upcharge for most dishes. Which is bizarre and uncommon at most malaysian restraunts. Its hand written all over the menu that dishes dont come with rice so im guessing that folks have complained. Seems like a cheap exploitive thing to do. Its a shame because id definitely go back for the food quality but paying $70 for soft shell crab, satay and a drink is a bit absurd. When i could get the same nearby for $50 or less nearby. Good luck! Love your cooking.
It was our first time trying Tamarind Hill tonight. Super food and super service. Will definitely be going back.
My mum is a picky eater, is from Malaysia and loves the laksa, the mi goreng, and the Hainanese chicken. I get that for her at least once a week and its a highlight. Thanks to Tamarind Hill for making her so very happy
Ordered the singapore laksa and it only had 2 fish cakes in it. No shrimp, no shredded chicken, no tofu.
This is one of the best restaurants in the neighbourhood. The food is consistently excellent and the portions are generous. Really nice friendly staff as well. Love the roti canai in particular!
We have been to this location a few times but have ordered to our place many more. The food is always amazing, hot and fresh! As chefs, my partner and I highly recommend this spot! We will be ordered again soon. Thanks for the amazing food, well done to the team!
Delicious food and generous portions too. The Singapore Laska is amazing and I always have some leftover to bring home. Definitely recommend. The waiter was so nice too!
Excellent food. Lovely owner.
How to make a customer feel unwelcome - no joy here. What happened to this place, given some of the better reviews? How to make a customer feel completely undervalued has been perfected here. Having had a restaurant, I understand how complex the business can be, but this was sad. I read the poor reviews and should not have bothered going here, but we had walked too far. They have lost the idea of customer service. This was a very small, poorly lit place, and although the decor wouldnt by itself assist in this place qualifying for decent ambiance, the front man providing service, the dishware, the meal presentation, the lack of attention or care from the server, the lack of attention to the quantity and dishes ordered, created an environment of wanting to get up and leave. He certainly was not friendly but did oblige us with a table for four as it was empty when we arrived. The food was ordered and delivered quickly but without a smile or eye contact. The papaya salad was tasty but placed on the table with two small plates that hardly held half of the salad. He never came back until the beef came. We ordered a beef stew dish (not two cups) for $22.00, NO RICE included. We did not get a proper new plate...ever. We were to continue eating off of dirty side plates. Although tasty enough, it had maybe ten pieces of half-fatty beef and ok pieces intermingled with a few potatoes. That, too, was dropped on our table in passing to another table - not a glance in our direction and not a question of how it was. We ordered one rice but had to pay for two. The total experience was so poor that I would not recommend the place I recommend against bothering--$ 42.00 NO TIP, was poorly spent. It was an overpriced pit stop. There is no joy here. We wont go back to that place. It completely lacks hospitality.
The best Singapore laksa ! I get rid of fish puff, add extra chicken an egg, also the eggplant dish they have it s so amazing with a side of rice
Fried rice and beef rendang are very yummy
Saw a mouse run through the restaurant while dining in. When mentioned to my server they were extremely rude about it. I understand the lower mainland has a bad mouse problem but it s extremely gross to see mice running around while you re trying to eat in a restaurant. I don t believe the kitchen is very sanitary here because the last time I ate in I found hair in my food. With that being said I will never come here again
This was such a yummy dinner! Roti Canai, Mee Goreng, and Malay Laksa were all so good. We walked in at closing (though Google says closes at 9:30, it s really 8:30). But they still gave us fast fresh take out.
Laksa good. Roti good. Skewers good. Sauces good. Going back asap once hungry again. Fast service. Super clean. Kid-friendliness: Kid enjoyed the laksa. Hadnt had laksa before
Unfortunately disappointed Poor quality ingredients- smelly chicken, old bean sprouts, the worst stainless piece in the soup
Delicious Assam Seafood Laksa and Malaysian Curry Laksa tonight. So good on a cold and rainy day. Actually, so good on any day. We are very fortunate to have this restaurant in North Vancouver.
Charged 18% gratuity with no notice. Was not on menu and was not told when seated. Was simply added at time to pay and was told no need to add tip. No plans to return. Portions too small for price.
First time tonight and what a great experience. We were looking for something that was a little different and we found it! I love finding places that are in North Vancouver that I have overlooked. Yeah, I have lived here most of my life We had the Chicken Satay, Kuey Teow and Okra Combo. Great Flavours and fantastic service.
Love the food here. Been going weekly for about 2 months.
Very authentic Malaysian hawker food. The roti Canai is yummy and char kuey teow noodles may be the best in the city. The restaurant itself could use a good cleaning.
Its for the first time I tried their food. I ordered Cha Kwee Tiao and it turned out pretty good. I love the taste, almost similar as Indonesian Cha kwee Tiao. The portion was generous.
We ordered the Malaysian Laksa, and it was the best! The noodles were perfect, the broth was amazing. Service was fast and nice. The Laksa could use a little more meat and eggs, but it was enough to make me come back for more.
Our overall experience at this restaurant was average. Here is a brief summary: The Food: - Beef Randang: well portioned, and tasty, with robust authentic flavour. - Roti Canai: A bit on the sweet side, average. - Hokkkien Mee: Colourless, with not much egg noodles. Chicken and squid boiled. - Hainanese Chicken: Boiled and flavourless - Steamed Rice: Small portion and clumpy. - Hot Sauce: Not the best, costs $1 extra. The Ambience: Dark with Moroccan decor, may not be the place during dark rainy days. The Service: To the point, but rushed. Feels unwelcoming. The Price: ~ $115 for the listed dishes plus tip. The Conclusion: So so, but not a place I ll go on a regular basis. -
I was stoked that there was the SG Hokkien mee here and despite it looking alittle different, it still tasted like home! - with a touch of sambal :) We ordered so many dishes to share but the ones I highly recommend for SG versions are: Hokkien mee, laksa, beef rendang, string beans w/ eggplant & okrah with sambal, satay & one prawn dish were all good!! I would definitely come back again and try the rest like roti canai, chicken rice & char kway teow !
So good. Amazing fresh flavors. We ve been twice and all the dishes have been excellent. I see why everyone recommends the laksa but the papaya salad was tangy and tasty, the Nasi gorang brought back great travel memories, and the chili shrimp was a personal favorite.
Gado Gado and Malaysian Laksa were so perfect! Large satisfying portions and delicious flavours
Finally was able to try Tamarind Hill Malaysian Cuisine. Tried two previous times but they were randomly closed. Already were out of several staples (roti canai, hainanese chicken and beef rendang). - Sambal beef with asparagus ($22.00) - beef was salty. Small, unsatisfying dish that wasn t worth the price point. - Nasi goreng ($16.75) - standard fried rice. Lacked wok hei. - Malaysian laksa curry ($16.00) - good heat to the laksa. Decent amount of vermicelli. Broth was well rounded. Would only return to TH to try their other laksa options.
We had laksa & nasi goreng: both were delicious!!
Great food, do try the noodles with gravy, they are heavenly!
Recommended by a friend. We tried for first time. Really enjoyed everything! Great food and service. For the first time there we chose so of the items based on other reviews. Roti, Nasi, Satay, Malaysian Laksa. We enjoyed all of it.
Best Hokien Mee!
Excellent! We ordered via Uber Eats and it came fast and hot. Lovely flavours.
On Jan 29, 2022 I ordered the first time take out from this restaurant. I can say that the food is great, staff a bit confused about the menu and prices and also the prices posted outside the restaurant are different than the prices inside the restaurant. Outside the price was around $13 and inside around $18, the same dish. I ordered lunch, which usually is cheaper than dinner, also smaller size. Unfortunately, you get smaller sizes for higher price. Was the first time and last ordering from this place.
Nice option for Singaporean food. Hokkien mee is good.
Really good and authentic style Laksa. My girlfriend got the Singapore style Laksa and it was fantastic. Definitely looks like a local favorite judging by the amount of people and wait time; not to mention the writeups about them in the local papers. Doesnt surprise me at all since the food was excellent. The staff was really friendly too.
Delicious food! I had the indian mee goreng and malaysian chicken curry - takeout. Honestly I had no complaints at all! Definetly recommend this place. However they did give an extremely small portion of rice! I paid for rice separately and they gave 1/2 a cup! A bit of a rip off so Id make my own rice if I did take out again
The food was delicious, the prices are very reasonable, and the service is friendly. What more can you ask for? I personally recommend the Satays
The Malaysian laksa is sooooooooo good
Great food
A real gem Very understated Our food was very delicious
Went there today with party of 6. The foods were too expensive with small portion, and the service was really bad. When we process the payment, the service wasn t there to process, we ended up dealt with the machine ourselves to make the payment (one of our friends work at the restaurant, so she knows how to use it). Will never come back for sure very disappointed experience today
I absolutely love this restaurant and food, but very disappointing to see I paid $22 for this small portion of beef rendang!!?? I was appalled when I got home. The Okra dish I ordered had 3 small pieces of okra and the rest was all green beans and 5 eggplants pieces and 2-3 shrimp. I paid for a dinner portion and received what I believe is a lunch portion and I am just not pleased for lack of value. I was asked to come pick up what they told me, the additional portion that was supposed to be given in the first place, but it is so inconvenient and far. They should have sent me a delivery. I simply will not order from here anymore. I get way more value from other restaurants.
I LOVE YOUR CHAR KUE TIAW!!!!!!!
Very good service and ambience. Very good food and customization as well. Must try place.
Excellent Malay food - local snapper in banana leaf was a 10 - Papaya salad light and interesting
Unlikely to return. Food so-so. Suspect had some sort of additive, as we both reaction to have this sedated feeling after foods with mystery ingredients. Very dark interiors even during a bright sunny day. This visit, the middle age Asian server was a bit abrupt in service.
I ordered take out from here a couple weeks ago. The portions were ridiculously small for a high price. I called to check that our order was filled correctly. Instead of acknowledging my complaint, the manager made excuse after excuse. I would not recommend this place. The food taste and value is not worth how much they charge you.
Great Laksa - the chef is Malaysian too!
Wow. Amazing service, lovely aesthetic, and seriously INCREDIBLE food. Super fast as well. I literally could not have been more impressed.
Favorites are Mee Goreng, Hokkien Mee, Singapore Laksa and Roti Canai. So delicious
Best laksa! Lots of vegan options if you ask. Always friendly, excellent service. Im worried about them during these restrictions because theyre so small to begin with and no patio, so please order takeout. We cant lose them!
All the staff here are amazing, with great food to match! I lived on Lonsdale for 5 years and went to this place many times. The laksa is absolutely amazing, one of my favourites in Metro Vancouver. I m sad I don t live nearby anymore.
Amazing food and amazing people!
The food was good but at the end of the meal when it was time to pay, the added a 25% tip to our total and walked away without saying anything. It was only the three of us so not even a large party and we ordered more than enough food as well. The service was not worth 25% either. As a server myself I always tip minimum 20% but this is super unprofessional as auto grat is not posted anywhere in their restaurant or online- it really feels like they successfully took advantage of my family. A very shady way to do business in my opinion.
$19.5 for half hainanese chicken without rice, and the chicken was pretty bad, even the hainanese chicken from any food court are way better than it. And its not half of the chicken :( It wasnt fresh. Have to order the hainanese rice separately ($3), and the rice is not good as well. Laksa was way too salty, only 2 thin slides of egg. And only gave one pair of chopsticks for 3 of us.
Delicate and tremendous flavours, from the fluffy coconut rice and chili prawns to the deep fried plantain with ice cream! Will definitely need to return soon.
Killer Malaysian in town. I loved their Laksa. And their satays. Also if you like flavor, go for the Sambal sauce on the side.
I went here with my parents and ordered the spring rolls, chicken satay, roti canai, nasi goreng and the mi goreng. The food was absolutely amazing and very authentic. The restaurant had a very cozy atmosphere and our server was very nice. Would definitely recommend!
Food was excellent. Very unique flavours. Staff was very friendly a well. Looking forward to coming again.
Hidden gem. Great price, good food, wonderful service...but the atmosphere is a little dark. Will return
I was craving for authentic Malaysian food and found this place through Yelp. I ordered the classic Nee goreng which were tasty and reminded on street noodles in India so unexpectedly served a different nostalgic purpose. My husband opted for Char kway Teow and Singaporean shrimp wasnt too excited about the flavour profiles and taste. All in all, an average experience. My rating: Flavour: 3 Ambience: 3 Service: 3 Uniqueness: 2 Cost: 3 Vibe: 3
It s the only Malaysian restaurant on North Shore. We usu go there when we crave for Laksa. Food & service are not bad. If you order take out, it s better to go early & wait, cause we saw they just left the take-out near the entrance.
A great spot for Malaysian food in North Vancouver. My go to is the Malaysian Laksa, a curry-based soup with lots of good stuff in it. Awesome on a cold winter s day. Other great dishes on the menu include the Nasi Goreng and Hainanese Chicken. Enjoy!
Not sure how this place got so many good reviews. The food I had was not fresh and very salty! Also service is pretty bad too. Do not recommend.
Small cosy good food
Had takeout from here April 2nd and it was a very tasty.
Love, love this place. So delicious. Dont know what our family would do without them both before and during the time of Covid.
The food at Tamarind Hill is great. We have ordered from them 3 times during the Covid crisis and their service has been exceptional and the food amazing. We will absolutely be ordering from them again and look forward to being able to go dine in at the restaurant.
My love for this place continues as it continues to be my favourite Malaysian place to go. Tried four new dishes and all of them but one was a hit and that one miss was just a personal preference. Plus the staff are always wonderful
Murtabak no longer serves with gado gado but got charged the same price. The laksa soup is way too salty and they only give you 1/4 of a boiled egg and some tiny little pieces of fish cake.
Very nice food. Love the satay chicken. They have the perfect arrangements to meet the physical distancing requirements.
The food is always excellent here! Very friendly service and very accommodating for vegan options. I recommend the Malaysian laksa, pineapple fried rice and eggplant/okra dishes :)
Love their nasi goring and roti cani
This is a gem! Super good food, and even for non-spicy eaters like me, its easy to let the restaurant know you dont like spicy food. Everything weve had is amazing! And the owner is great too! Dont miss this place!
Had a fabulous meal of beef rendang, chicken kari, sambal prawns and laksa. Outstanding food and the service was great. Rebecca was wonderful. Will definitely be going back!!
Absolute Disaster
First visit, but so far some of the best Malaysian food this side of Singapore/ Malaysia.
Food is delicious. Make sure when you order, dont order from lunch menu as they currently do NOT serve lunch menu during lunch time, so there would be NO rice included in your meal. Wish they can inform customer when ordering though!
Went with the family to celebrate a birthday. Singapore laksa was as delicious as always and service was great.
So delicious and great selection
We order Asam laksa, but they give us curry laksa. So we ask the staff (look like boss), he insisted that s asam laksa.. sorry man, the curry laksa taste okay but it definitely not asam laksa (we re Malaysian). The hainanese chicken is okay (really expensive), but the sauces is bad cause it taste like plain soy sauces. And the hainanese rice is worse, the chili and ginger sauces is the worst.
Laksa laksa yummy good food best service
Consistent yummy flavors
Went there for lunch because of the good reviews on Google map. Had to really pay close attention to find the place. Walked right pass it the first time. Below average service: waited a while for the server to come despite that the restaurant only got four customers. Price is too high for the quality of the food served.
Their food is amazing and I loved it. Would recommend. The end.
So good! The roti was so friggin good I m dying to have it again. We also had soup that was so dam creamy aahhhhhhh so good
Ive been getting takeout from here for several years now. The food itself isnt bad, but in the past year their prices have gone up and the quantities have been significantly cut. By a third at a minimum. For 20 dollars yesterday, I got 6 shrimp and 4 small squares of bell pepper. Wow. The rice? Ive tested that over the past several visits. Ive ordered rice for two people and up to 6 people. Each time I get the same serving container which is enough for 2. This place used to be run by two really nice ladies. The place was packed every time I walked in. Since the owner took over management last year, things have gone downhill. Its evident when I walk in these days and its often empty at dinner time. No surprise why.
Lovely little busy place. The food is excellent with a variety of lovely spices that makes sharing plates a lot of fun.
Roti is sublime...fresh young coconut water, in the coconut...curried chicken is wonderful...2 curries, one for chicken, one for veggies.
Expected good quality Malaysian food. Having lived in Malaysia I was expecting something good. But it wasnt close to authentic Malaysian
Have been to many Malaysian restaurants and this is the worst! Ordered the beef rendang and there was a layer of floating oil, the meat had so much fat I felt sick just looking at it and it tasted nothing like rendang. The rest of the food was very average. Never going there again. Avoid this restaurant. I called the restaurant to let them know and was told the beef rendang is not cooked at the North Van location and comes from their New West location, go figure; so definitely not fresh !!!
Awesome place we had the mussels and Malaysia Laska seafood soup so good and I have tried the same in Kuching Malaysia and as good. Also good service.
If this was a movie I d give em two thumbs up. Excellent Malaysian food here. We had pepper soft shell crab. Was sooooo tasty. Right on! Also had Hokien Mee noodle dish with shrimp, chicken and octopus. Quite good but it was good but slightly sweet. Would definitely come back and try again.
Great food and vegetarian options. Would go again.
I love this place!!!
Found it to be a little on the pricey side but maybe its because of the area? I also found some of the dishes to be a little salty for my liking however, the food was still enjoyable.
It is good Malaysian restaurant. Good quality food and service.
Authentic Malaysian Cuisine. Everything tastes exactly the same as the food I had in Malaysia. We brought our own crab and lobster and they can cook it for 25$/lb. there are 4 flavors available. I highly recommend the Singapore chili.
Better food than the New West location. Charging an extra $1.50 for green chillies when ordering the hor fun is highway robbery.
Wonderful food and great service!
Came highly recommended. Maybe they were having an off day but food didnt feel fresh. Wouldnt go back
Love the sambal beef and asparagus! All the dishes here are amazing! Along with the service. Keep it up guys!
A little salty but delicious. A place where money is not enough.
Love their Singapore Laka and Rotti! Highly recommend these menu if you are looking for something milky coconut taste with a bit of spice and seafood.
The food is ok, been here like 4 times, the fried rice or noodle dishes are not bad, having lived in SE Asia the laksa soup noodles are not good.
Great Malaysian food. Rolled bread!
I come here all the time for lunch takeouts and their service used to be so so much better. The new waitress is not as friendly. I find their laksa a bit too salty. They made the mee goreng sweeter than before but I request them to make it less sweet and it was perfect for me. I love the Hokien Mee but the chicken taste a bit bland. I like to request them to spice it up for me and give it a kick. The new waitress always got confused when I requested for mild spicy. Murtabak is good especially the lamb but they cheap out on the meat now (only two pieces of lamb). Sambal green beans is pretty consistent. Theyve increased their price quite a bit over these years and its becoming less affordable. I go there less now (I used to go there almost every week!) because of the price increase and I still love to get lunches from there sometimes when I want to treat myself.
It was very nice. Delicious food and a great place to have dinner. The service was very good. My water glass was never empty. The huge bowl of Malaysian curry laksa was wonderful. Just the right amount of spice to make me sweat but not choke me. The calamari was excellent. I ate without the dipping sauce. It was that good. The portions were big. You should have seen the deep fried bananas and ice cream. It was definitely big enough for two to share. So sad that is located in North Vancouver. I wish it wasnt.
Over the years this restaurant had proven to be excellent!. Regrettably the service has declined, the restaurants portions have been reduced in size, tasted very similar from one the next. Prices went up by 20% and service now is horrible.
Found my rice dish extremely tasty. The service could have been quicker but maybe it was a result of the lunch rush.
Very flavorful, especially the Malaysian specialties. Along with beautiful decor and friendly service.
Good value
I love the Singapore Laksa
good service from the young man, laksa can be improve ) little too much msg..
Does not answer , wont let me in cos no room for one person
Great food, the sauce here is impeccable. Its a great place to come with 2-4 friends and enjoy really good food. Will come back again.
Small cozy place with great food.
Sometimes they seem understaffed. Food is delicious though, dinner is a bit pricey but they have good reasonable options.
Good food. Pretty authentic Malaysian food. Love the assam laksa.
Lovely experience! Great service, amazing flavours in the food and very reasonable prices.
Great food at reasonable prices. Nice staff, too.
Be aware when doing take out based on their online menu. Prices there are completely different from what you would pay when you pick up. Owner/manager started making up excuses when asked about the discrepancy. Food tastes good, but be prepared to find more potatoes than chicken in your chicken curry.
Insanely delicious
Food quality was good and service was friendly and attentive. Roti canai and satays were excellent. My dining companion, who ordered other dishes, was less satisfied. This restaurant closes early, so arrive early.
Small yet fantastic place to eat. Not much vegetarian variety, but the food is great. Highly recommended to visit st least once. Not suited for taking smaller children. Always crowded and has limited space. Hence going with a car seat or stroller is highly uncomfortable. Plan accordingly. Parking free around the Lonsdale Avenue.
Love this place.
People who run the place are really the sweetest and the food is good too, but is quite expensive for the portions
Eating here reminds me of my many trips to Malaysia and all the great styles of cuisine available there. Its not quite Penang but its pretty good for Lonsdale!
Reasonably priced food but place is not that very clean.
One of my favorite restaurants on the North Shore. Amazing food. Poor drink menu. Good service for eat in or take out.
My Laksa noodle bowel was excellent but the service was very slow and almost nonexistent.
I liked the Tamarind Hill at the New West branch so decided to try this branch. We ordered the roti, skewers, and Assam laksa. While eating the chicken skewer, one of the chicken pieces had a shard of wood inside and got stuck in my throat. Eating and drinking did not flush it down. Luckily I was able to get it out when I got home otherwise this couldve lead to throat infection (see picture). If I had choked on the food, this shard of wood couldve gotten in my airways. I told the server and nothing was done except I will notify the kitchen. Otherwise the food was okay. The Assam laksa had too much spice, not sour enough, and was a tad salty. Overall, did not enjoy my experience.
Did not have the first two dishes available I tried ordering and the food that did come was bland and disappointing. Couldnt really recommend for their prices.
Best Malaysian food in lower mainland.
Tamarind Hill is one of the better restaurants on the North Shore. The effort they put into their decor and food is both excellent. Their laksas are decent but their curried lamb Murtabak and Hainanese Chicken rice are their standouts. Their lunch special is great value but their dinner menu is also good. They get slammed at night so go early on a weekend.
The food was good had in house fresh baked Bread good sauce and condiment a drinking water was filtered but not cold enough my laksa was bit salty the waiting services was good
KL Hokkien Noodles!!!! Love it! All the food here is usually prepared very well. One of the to go places for Malaysian food!
Must try their Malaysian Laksa!
Incorrect pricing. Ordered food based on the menu posted on website only to realize on pick up that they had raised their prices - but had not revised them on the website. To me thats unethical. They did not even offer to adjust it even though the difference would have been nominal. Dint have a choice and so had to take the food or else would have just left it with them. I will take my business elsewhere.
Not that great of a dining experience. Ordered the chicken curry but didnt come with eggplant and described on the menu. They explained that the dinner menu didnt include eggplant, which didnt make sense - preferred more veggies. Found the flavour of all the dishes (except the satay lamb) too salty. Wouldnt go back.
Delicious flavors that are full of tantalizing smells and textures. Ive been here 3 times and ordered something different every time and always been impressed. Small but comfy and smiling helpful service!
