From the family that brought you Cafe Norte, Cantina Norte is now open in North Vancouver's Edgemont Village bringing back many of the classic favourites such as Chicken & Mango Chimichanga's and Shrimp and Papaya Quesadilla's.
I had an amazing experience at this Mexican gem! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was so lively and welcoming. Every dish was bursting with authentic flavors that transported me straight to Mexico. Whether you’re craving a casual lunch out or looking to dive into some seriously good Mexican cuisine, this place is a must-visit. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu!
We went to Cantina Norte for lunch around 12, but they only had the brunch menu available. Despite the limited options, the food was really good, and the service was excellent. The staff was attentive and friendly, making the overall experience pleasant. Would have loved to try their lunch menu, but the brunch was still a solid choice.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. First time tonight with my wife and daughter. Everyone was perfect. Margaritas Chips and salsa Taquitos Enchiladas Tacos Churros Banana Cream Pie And our server was so nice - like old school nice and she told us that her parents had the original Cafe Norte years earlier.
Food was fantastic! Atmosphere was enjoyable and patio seatings was excellent! Only down side was we felt so unwelcome by the male host when we first arrived. He seemed like he really didnt want to be here and didnt bother to even smile. He answered passive aggressively when i had asked a question. Thankfully our server made up for it and excelled in taking care of us during the dining experience.
Cantina Norte is one of the best places to enjoy Mexican cuisine in North Vancouver! You absolutely have to try the tortilla soup—it's an unforgettable flavor experience. The friendly service and warm, inviting atmosphere always make us want to come back. Definitely one of the best dining experiences I've had.
The food was delicious, and the vibe was great. Special shoutout to our server, Marcos, who was incredibly friendly, patient, and helpful. He made our visit extra special.
We could not decided where to go and son said try this place! Another friend has referred it too. We came in and the nacho are the best I have ever had! The interior design is fun and we sis not have to wait for a table
They serve some chips & salsa while you wait. Dishes were well prepared and tasted great. Happy hour starts at 2pm, $9 Margheritas sure hit the spot on a nice hot day. There’s also an outdoor patio area and free parking in the area.
Great to have a more upscale Mexican food option in North Vancouver. Really delicious food with reasonable prices and portions. We will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Food
Amazing food!
Brunch with friends at Cantina Norte. The shrimp tacos were delicious and so were the egg Benedict!
Our server was very friendly and attentive, we were a large group we got separate bill and some of us share a few things which make her life complicated, but she was very professional and accommodating. I forgot her name but I loved her since she asked for my ID( Im over 30). The food is good, some Interesting flavors and good portions, nothing really make me fall in love but it was ok. The atmosphere is like any family restaurant. Definitely the best part of the experience is the staff, the will make sure that you have a good time
I have been here several times and i tend to order the same thing ( duck mole) because the first time was incredible. However this time I ordered the duck mole and I knew it was going to be slightly different due to how the cook was checking it several times before sending it out ( you can see into the kitchen through the window from where I was seated and he kept looking at me as it was being brought out and watched my first bite) . It was undercooked. I had my friend try a piece to confirm as I do not like sending things back . I sent it back and the server was a bit condescending when she asked me how I like it cooked and was informed that it was medium rare ( there was significant bleeding on the plate) , so I asked for it to be medium to medium well . The next duck I received was well done , dry and tough to chew. Due to this experience I cannot give them a raving review as I would have from the first several visits.
Amazing food!!! Food, service, decor, and vibe was excellent. We loved the brunch and xant wait to come back and try more options. The French Toast is a must and the Taquitos were the best Ive ever had. Highly recommend this spot
We loved their cocktails and paella was yummy! Lots of options and the kindest servers!
Great food, service was better this time, very loud when busy.
Went here for my birthday dinner. It was fabulous! Food drinks and waiter were all amazing. I used to dine at Cafe Norte over 30 years ago when I lived in NVan. And it was amazing then. I wanted to go back and discovered Cantina Norte. My whole party loved it and we will always go back. Reasonable prices and large portions. Great service and yummy drinks. I cannot wait to go back. Thank you
Friendly helpful staff. Delicious food.
Busy place food was great
The restaurant is pretty well located, food was great and ambiance was fantastic; we really liked the music. We waited for food a bit longer than expected but other than that it was a good experience. Enjoyed the chicken and mango chimichanga!
I had the Ceviche. I expected a light and bright dish. This was oily and dull.
Delicious food...super friendly staff and amazing atmosphere...would highly recommend...Andrew
Ankit was WONDERFUL! The food is banging as usual! Especially the Coconut Banana Pie!
Excellent food and great customer service. Highly recommend!
Servers were nice
Great food and service was excellent
Great Margaritas, I had a shrimp papaya, quesadilla, it was a lot more papaya then shrimp, I would try something else s next time
The place is very warming, we really felt back home for a moment. Until food came in, no corn tortillas (which is what really makes Mexican food, Mexican) salsas were awful. And please please please DO NOT order the barbacoa, barbacoa doesn t go with pickled onions and spinach. We were really disappointed with the food :( the beans taste like ketchup, and the prices are too high for the quality offered.
Music was a bit too loud, meaning we had to shoot to each other at our table.
Really nice space, good beer selection and friendly staff. Ill be back.
The covhinita tacos are awesome, I felt I was in Mexico. Is hard to find places who sell these dishes and this place actually made them on point. The only thing would that the prices are a bit to high in my opinion, beside that very good experience.
So so good! Great service too!
Wow! This is the best find for authentic Mexican dishes and atmosphere. Great for a romantic dinner or family gathering. Enjoy all the appies , mains and OMG the Banana Coconut Cream Pie is to die for!!! See you there!!
The only thing better than the food was the service. Dietary restrictions: Great gluten free choices. Lots of veggie options. Food : 5/5 | Service
Tasted duck for the first time it was well cooked and flavorful. We also ordered rice, guac and beans for veg options and the sides were very tasty.
Delicious food and great service
It had a very varied menu, and it was very difficult for me to choose just one item. The soup and salad were very delicious and unique, the passion fruit margarita was excellent, and the servers were also attentive and helpful.I loved the details of the place decorating as well.
Drinks were good. Cauliflower steak and Sopes were meh. Service was on point. Will give it another try as they have vegetarian options.
Very nice Mexican restaurant in the heart of Edgemont village. Food , service and vibes are great. Dietary restrictions: They can accommodate that Parking: It will take time as usual when you park in the village but you will find Kid-friendliness: Sure it s.
Vey tasty
Highly recommend this amazing restaurant. Great food, great service, friendly staff..
Great food and the decor inside is surprisingly upscale. Recommend!
The empanadas dough was recently changed, it was great before I can t understand why. Used to be more like a traditional empanada now it s more like a flaky pie crust. Went from a 5 to a 3
Great staff, decent food. Their chicken is just diced chicken with sauce for flavor, but otherwise everything was tasty. Parking: Free parking underground.
Vegetarian options: Nachos Food
I was hoping this place was going to be much better than it was.... When I got there, I was surprised with how expensive everything was. I ended up getting the chicken enchiladas that had almost no flavour with a small portion. You can get way better Mexican food in Vancouver for less than half the price!!!
Very nice staff, special shout out to the Argentinian bartender. Very good quesadillas. If you re looking for an authentic michelada though, it s probably not your place, but I doubt you ll find something much better in Vancouver.
Food was delicious. We were not drinking but cocktail menu looked fantastic. Big bright venue. Lots of space between tables. Just missing people. Prices are not cheap so perhaps that has something to do with it. Considering theres little else in Edgemont by way of restaurants, this place should be smashing it.
If you are looking for Mexican restaurants in north Vancouver please take a look here. I m sure you will enjoy.
Everything was incredible, but the portion sizes were too small for the price. The drinks were great, though everything was overpriced. I d recommend it, but be prepared for an expensive bill.
Jasons service was great!
I loved my food... but a blond waitress was a bit annoying. All the time putting pressure for us moms to choose the drinks, dinner and desert... and pay. I am a mom, and I never have time to seat and eat calmy! She was so in a rush that I allowed her to take my plate with 1/2 food... I got home hungry. She wanted to grab my drink but I told no... annoying! I gave her 15% but I shouldnt have done that... I should have give her 0%... she wanted to be the center of the attention... such an expensive dish to have left 1/2 because she wanted to rush and take my plate. =( Ps. Time in the restaurant...not busy... less than 2h I will not.go back just because the annoying waitress. Zero stars for her.
This is a really nice place for dinner. I had the chili relleno with shrimp and queso along with their offering of a local pale ale. The food was good enough but authentic Mexican food is much better. I would recommend this as a good night out but dont expect the quality of food you would get in U.S southwest
Worth it with vibe!
Three generations of moms in my family celebrated today at the Cantina in Edgemont village North Van. Being a group over 6, gratuities were included whether we had good service or not. We had HORRIBLE service no water refills for us cuz our server was just too busy . The place is a sound nightmare with annoying music in BG and tables shouting over each other cuz the acoustics are abysmal in this horrible sound failure. Do not eat the queso fundido cuz they use CREAM cheese vs any real Mexican resembling queso. I now have food poisoning. Could be from the $6 added shrimp which were difficult to find in the disgusting goop. And all for $25 not including tax or the 18% tip we were FORCED to leave for the snotty waitress who ignored our party of 10 even to deliver the bill. I did not want to give it ANY STARS but this review meant I had to. SCRATCH THE CANTINA off your list and avoid being ripped off for cheesy TERRIBLE INEDIBLE Mexican?? food.
The price is higher 5han qualiry
Delicious Mexican restaurant, but the beer is a bit disappointing
My wife and I just arrived from NC and having been on the go for 12 hours, subsisting on airline snacks all day we were hungry and tired. We always prefer to dine at local restaurants but it seemed we were mostly finding fast food chain joints and sushi restaurants. We re not sushi people. So while driving around what seemed to be a promising area we saw folks dining outside and there was a parking spot right across the street. Our reservations about eating Mexican in Canada were overridden by hunger and the open parking spot nearby so we went on in. Our hopes were buoyed by the sign outside saying the Cantina had several best of awards voted for by locals. Still, good Mexican food in Canada? We live outside Charlotte, NC and Mexican eateries are all around us. Despite living in a tiny town of 800 or so, there s at least a dozen such places within 10 miles. They re mostly staffed by folks who ve migrated to the area from south of the border. So we figured we had a pretty good idea of what to expect. Yeah not so much. The salsa was far better than any we ve had at home. It was thick, not runny, and flavorful-not bland and tasteless or set your mouth on fire hot. Back home, you can get free refills - but you get what you pay for, right? At Cantina, you pay for the second helping but they donate the money to help provide nutritious meals to school children in Central Mexico. So yes, we had seconds! My wife had the tortilla soup which was thick and flavorful, just the right amount of spicy. I had the barbacoa. It was delicious! Is good Mexican food in Canada unexpected? Not anymore! Highly recommend this fine restaurant!
Really enjoyed the food and service here. Well be back.
Good atmosphere and location. Service was okay a bit of a long wait. Food was good but not excellent. May or may not be back
The quality of the food has worsened, they do not seem to care about the food in the way that they used to. Food was overpriced given the quality.
My assessment is this is the same as calling KD Italian food.
Great Mexican restaurant with delicious dishes. I recommend Shrimp and Papaya Quesadillas. Tacos are also so good Food : 5/5 |
Vibe is good. Food unique and interesting. Would recommend just come for drink. Come to drink, not to eat
This place has a beautiful Mexican decoration. But the food it s just okay. My husband had the Cochinita and I got the Tortilla Soup, and both taste exactly the same dish. The staff is very nice and friendly.
Looking for some mexican food after a happy movie! Thats what landed me here. When you enter the restaurant, everything is clean and neat. Very minimal but tidy and definitely has a mexican vibe to it. The menu has many options ranging from some shared plates to mains. I ordered the mango and chicken chimichanga. Which I thought was a very interesting combination. There is the sweetness of the mango with a little hint of some chilli, which combines together to form something sensational. I definitely enjoyed the food. However, the service itself was very disappointing. I tried to order a beer but I wasnt able to, which basically lead me to having a water the whole way. Then when paying the bill, there was some big hiccups, because the bill needed to be split. It took 3 attempts to get it right. I would say I would go again, but only for the food and not so much for the service.
Wonderful food and service
This is a very good westernized Mexican restaurant. Youre greeted with multi colored tortilla chips with a freshly made salsa that has hints of cilantro but isnt spicy. The vegan wild mushroom quesadilla is really great with a side salad. Had the chicken tortilla soup which was a bit spicy and a side salad. Great servers attending to your needs and to details like guiding vegans through the menu.
Server was rude (actually laughed at my partner when she asked a question about the menu) and the food was not good. Shrimp in two of our dishes were well past best before date. Natchos had barely a taste of cheese. Will not be back.
Food was ok, not alot of flavour in our 4 dishes we all had. The worse thing, was its extremely noisey. Overall it was ok.
Best Mexican in Vancouver
The Mexican paella full of flavours they we very generous with the seafood in it . when Im back in north van I will be going back there. Food : 5/5
I was there on a Friday around 6:30 pm...It was a super loud place and I cannot even hear my friends sitting next to me. We had to keep shouting for an hour before getting the food and get the hell out. Ill try another day or time when its less busy to really enjoy the food and atmosphere.
Love their chicken taquitos & empanadas!
Please hire a Mexican Chef that cooks with excellence. Your restaurant is so beautiful and new that needs Justice. Customer Service was excellent. Thank you .
Really enjoyed the food. It s quite noisy when busy, heads up. I had tortilla soup and my fellow diners found vegan and vegetarian options
Amazing staff very friendly perfect atmosphere really nice and cozy. Gotta give up try for dining or takeout. They do DoorDash Uber eats and skip the dishes.
Ordering cocktails and drinks is a waste, bad taste. Food is good though.
Family lunch. Service was quick and the food decent.
I have been here twice now, and both times were disappointing. The first time I tried the duck, it was not good (both flavour and texture). Second time, I had the chicken and mushroom quesadilla. The chicken was not seasoned at all, it was so plain! My friend who had the chicken enchilada said the same. The rice on the side was room temp and didnt taste fresh. I told the waiter and they brought hotter rice to the table for everyone in the group who had the cold rice as their side. One of my friends commented that it tasted like Mr Bens rice... Not yummy. To end the experience I noticed they charge a liquor tax on non alcoholic beverages??? I will definitely not be coming back here.
Stopped on our way to Whistler. The food was fantastic and the service was warm and professional. We loved the margaritas! Food
The service was great, friendly and attentive. Nice interior, modern and spacious though it can get a little loud. As for the food, it was great, nothing mind blowing, just solid good good. Will certainly come back. The warm chips and salsa at the start are a great way to start a dinner! Vegetarian options: Lots of options on the menu Parking: Parking can be tough to find on the street as anything close is limited to 15mins or 1hr Kid-friendliness: Kid menu and colouring pages with crayons Wheelchair accessibility: Street level access to the restaurant and patio
Their chicken wings and fries noodle were extremely delicious however the Tom Yum Kum soup a bit lousy.
Great service & delicious food. Barbacoa was very flavorful, tender & spicy.
Really nice place with good decor and music, nice ambiance. Food is amazing and so are the drinks. Pretty cheap price for all you get.
If you havent discovered this little gem, then you are missing out. The food is great & very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly & attentive & the overall atmosphere is very nice. We were there for lunch & will be definitely checking out dinner & brunch.
Delicious food, spacious atmosphere with fresh air. The waitresses are very friendly! I would love to come back and try the other dishes.
The food was good but it was as hot as I would have like it; it was luke warm. the atmosphere was noisy. The service was good.
Had brunch great place Dietary restrictions: They had tons of gluten free option Food : 5/5 |
Definitely the best, most authentic Mexican food Service was excellent thank Heather and Heather
A bustling modern Mexican restaurant - an Edgemont Village locale. Great for casual family, friends and kids. Reasonably priced. Complimentary tortillas and salsa.
Visited here a few weeks ago and was blown away by the food. The muscles were outstanding and the taquitos came with a delicious pineapple salsa. The service was also great and the atmosphere is beautiful.
$25 for a salad thats just a boat load of beans some kale and a few scrawny Prawns. Nice decor but way too loud with restraunt chatter. No music. good service but I cannot recommend this restraunt. Very disappointing.
Love it!!! Great food, amazing service
Delicious Mexican food! Great atmosphere and margaritas!
Great food and atmosphere. Limited parking. Best to have reservations Thurs to Sunday evenings.
Great drinks, fantastic food, excellent service! Well done. Will definitely return again. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available. Parking: Lots of street parking and underground parking too.
Great authentic Mexican food here! Awesome options from different types of quesadilla and seafood. Would have given 5 star but our server was a bit slow at times and we had to wait a while for things. It was busy but at times servers were chatting and laughing amongst themselves instead of attending to our table. But overall food was good and made up for the service.
Went there for brunch, arrived just after noon on a Sunday. There were 3 or 4 other tables that were seated and the place was not busy imo. There was a table of 5 of us and the food we ordered was great, 2 of my friends ordered vegan dishes and they were ok. However, its a Mexican restaurant so I can appreciate that its not their thing. My issue with the restaurant was the slow service, it was slow. Overall a solid food experience and I think if they can dial in the service to be a bit faster it would be rated higher.
What I know of Mexican food is dangerous, so I chose my food based on the ingredients... and the result was delicious! I dont remember what it was called but it had duck and eggs... I loved it, the service was great, water was replenished frequently, and the atmosphere is very enjoyable in the restaurant.
The taste is good and the atmosphere is good. I want to go again
Perfect atmosphere . friendly staff. delicious foods. Food : 5/5
Cantina Norte is a small restaurant that deserves to be known. The food was very good, and it was an excellent value for the price. The menu had a nice selection of dishes that were well-prepared and flavorful. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I was impressed with the quality of the ingredients used in the dishes, and the attention to detail in the presentation of each dish was noticeable. The portions were also generous, making it a satisfying meal. Overall, I would definitely recommend Cantina Norte to anyone looking for delicious food at a great price. Its a hidden gem that deserves to be discovered!
I went with a group of friends, and had a really nice evening. I would like to give this place four stars, but Im giving it only three because of the meal I had. One friend and myself had the duck Verde. I cant remember the actual name of the meal, but youll find it on the menu pretty easily. I wouldnt recommend it. To be fair, the duck was very tender. We both agreed that the meal itself was very Bland with little flavor. I did ask for some hot sauce. And they gave me this fantastic green hot sauce which had wonderful flavor to it. I basically covered my meal with it and it was the prominent flavor to the dish at that point, it was actually the only flavor to the dish. My wife had a chicken and mushroom quesadilla and thought it was fantastic. And one of our friends had the tortilla soup which she really enjoyed and our other friend had something else and I cant remember what it was but he seemed to enjoy his meal too I think it was a seafood rice dish of a sort. So that being said I would definitely go back and try again and pick something else. We had desserts as well, and they were all very tasty. I had the flan, which was good, but an honesty I have had far superior flan. I think it might be a challenging dessert to make. The passion fruit sorbet was delightful! The churros good. And a couple people had the banana cream pie I think it was. They seem to enjoy that. Atmosphere-wise, it was nice, spacious, the only negative that I have to say, which I find in a lot of places these days; there is no cushioning in the restaurant, and the noise just bounces off the walls. It is very difficult to have a conversation unless youre sitting directly next to someone. There were six of us, so three people at one end could talk with each other and three people at the other end could talk with each other but there was no conversation really possible for the whole table to join in. As for the service, the service was just fine. Not overly attentive, but definitely checked in on us. Only one criticism, one of the servers came to offer refills of water, she filled my glass, and then walked away with water in her jug. The rest of the table looked at me, and then we all laughed. Water refiller could be a little more attentive. Yes, I will go back again and give it another shot. I think it has potential. As for it being Mexican food, I think possibly it would be a better description if it was called Mexican Fusion cuisine. Kid-friendliness: I noticed kids in the restaurant, they were given some crayons and some paper to color. Also kid-friendly options by the looks of it.
I was terribly disappointed with the food and customer service at Cartina Norte in Edgemont Village. Food was insipid and not at all authentic Mexican cuisine! Customer service was simply awful. And wait for this - we saw mice flailing about near where we were sitting!! When we pointed this out to the waiter, he simply laughed at us saying, its being looked at! Rest assured, I will NOT be recommending Cartina Norte to anyone.
This place has some pretty good Mexican! It is a little bit expensive but definitely good quality and good portion sizes.
Great atmosphere, food and service. Came here for brunch (11AM - 2PM) and it was amazing! It would be great if they had horchata but hopefully on the future they can add it to their menu! I would highly recommend this place!
Once a favourite, last 2 visits have been disappointing. On the most recent visit tonight, discovered they seem to have downsized the Papas Brava, and the Chile Relleno was tough and fibrous. The server noticed and took the plate back (though we kept the rice). Later a manager came over and first asked have you ever had Chile Relleno before? like somehow we didnt know what the dish was supposed to be. She then went on to say the chef has always cooked them this way...etc etc . Weve had them many times there - in fact the first time was probably 30 years ago when the owners parent had the Cafe Norte in the Village. It was just a tough old chile pepper I guess, but found the intimation that somehow it was our problem off-putting. In any event, they decided to graciously take $6.50 off a $26.00 entree that was inedible. It was our anniversary so we didnt make a fuss, just paid the bill and left. Sadly, cant recommend what used to be a pretty good place for both food and service.
Everything was excellent. We truly enjoyed margaritas and nachos
Came in for some chicken nachos and beer. Very good nachos. Very authentic and tasty.
All time favourite Mexican restaurant! Food is amazing and margaritas are next level.
It was awesome, our server knew her stuff, explained in detail our food, very guick with bringing food It was our granddaughters 1st birthday they had little chair for her & coloring to do, every one loved the authenticity of mexican food, pricing on par, overall 5 plus & will be going here again when in North Vancouver
Food was fine but my salsa had a twig in it that I choked on, no fun
Not as cozy as the original. The food was extremely salty , the free chips and salsa was the best part of our meal. Our waitress took out orders and wasnt seen again until it was time for the bill and we were all out of water because of the salt content. It was not busy but the staff we encountered were not well trained servers, just winging it - a bit too amature for $30/entries imho. I found the space very noisy, too many hard surfaces like glass and concrete make poor acoustics. Dont plan on returning.
Really solidly good food. Excellent flavours
Great Meal with good sized portions . Great atmosphere from our server . Will definitely be back
Editing my past review because we came back tonight and it was amazing. The last time must have been an off night. Food was delicious and service was fantastic! Thanks for the great night out, wish I had room for the dessert again! Unfortunately, not a good experience. They spent an enormous amount of time filling delivery orders, ignoring the people actually sitting in their restaurant. The food was mediocre, not great (dessert was good). Service was bad.
Surprisingly terrible. Worst margarita I ve had in the city, bland food that looked great, and the service was just okay. The people were friendly, but at this price I can t imagine coming back here again. :(
We sat at the bar and were provided with great service! Food came quickly, the atmosphere was great, and the staff were polite and chatty when they saw the opportunity. They really want to make your experience great and definitely delivered. Will definitely go back there again!
Great food (starter and main)at a good price. Tasty margaritas and very good service. To sum up, we had a wonderful dinner experience and I would highly recommend it. The only negative was that the music was quite loud, so it made conversation tough.
Awesome service Thank you @ sky
Very busy. Sat at the bar. Good service. Tasty food.
Excellent, I recommend it.
Crispy fried chicken and pork chops were flavorful and moist. Waitress was friendly and bought us lots of tea.
Best Mexican food in north van. Great staff, service and the price is right.
Had the taco salad it was soooo good and our waitress was super friendly. Nice environment.
In 5 years in Vancouver I had never tasted the real Mexican flavor until now ! . This place is amazing , starting by the decoration with a big Calendario Azteca , following by the food with real Mexican dishes and the best : the warm welcoming of the owners ( Britney) combined with the original Mexican flavor of the food prepared by chef Juan . The bar is also amazing and the drinks just like in a real Cantina . By the way . Ask for the surprising desert made of Banana !
We had the best server (on the patio for lunch). The hostess was wonderful, and our server was amazing. Not too pushy, very kind, very knowledgeable of the menu, and extremely nice to our dog on the patio. We will be back.
The owner is so Nice. She always remembers me when I come Parking: In the garage below thrifty free for 2 hours Food : 5/5 |
The vibrant ambiance and expertly curated menu are delightful, though service can be leisurely, so plan for a relaxed, unhurried meal. While it may test your patience, the end result - a flavourful culinary fiesta - is undeniably worth the wait.
Service was quick even though they were busy. Food and drinks were fantastic.
Just absolutely incredible.
Went to Cantina Norte for Valentines dinner. Started with ceviche, which was an ample and tasty portion and a very good sharing option. For mains we had chicken and mango chimichanga and Mexican paella. The paella was filled with small pieces of chorizo along with shrimps and mussels. The small seafood empanada was an added bonus. My wife said she enjoyed her chimichanga. For dessert we split a coconut banana cream pie, which was very good but left us totally stuffed. Vibrant ambience, pleasant service. Edit. Had to add to this review after a recent visit. The tortilla soup was stellar, almost a stew with just the right amount of spiciness. The three mains - shrimp & papaya quesadilla, Huachinango Veracruzana (rockfish with salsa Veracruzana, and Cochinita Pibil basically build your own tacos) were all very tasty and filling. Finished off with the coconut banana cream pie. Parking: Free underground parking Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair accessible.
Not your typical Tex-Mex joint. Kinda fancy, Meal starts off with comp chips and salsa , which are excellent by the way. Tortilla soup is top shelf. If you sit at the bar its happy hour hour all day for Margs. Get the drift here?
Great birria!
Had the shrimp taquitos and they left me wanting to come back the following day to try everything else. Good vibe
SO happy we stumbled upon this place. We came during brunch and were seated immediately. Ordered the huevos divorcados which came with a side of salad and potatoes. I was so impressed by the attention to detail in the flavours of the food. There were 2 different sauces on the eggs (both delicious), the potatoes came with a garlicky mayo type sauce, the beans were perfectly seasoned, the salad was a fresh and tangy accompaniment to the savoury dish, the sunny side up eggs were perfectly cooked, I could go on. My friend got the sweet potato hash with barbacoa and was equally happy with her food. It took some time to come out, but hey you can t rush perfection. The decor and ambiance were lovely- high ceilings, Mexican art pieces, a sleek and modern bar, and flowers/greenery on the patio. Service was friendly. I wish I could give them more than five stars, this is one of the more enjoyable meals I ve had in a long time.
Great place and atmosphere
Great service from friendly staff. Food is usually good but not the reason I go there. Shrimp taquitos are pretty awesome though. Food
The seafood Taquitos were amazing!! Kid-friendliness: Accommodated my 11 month old and were very kind. Food : 4/5 |
Found out they havent had working hot water since the beginning of the year So the dishes arent getting sanitized properly and staff cant properly wash their hands. Enjoy your food poisoning.
The General Manager and Floor Manager? went above and beyond to correct a mistake they made, which I was very grateful for. But more than anything the food is always amazing.
What a gem! Do yourself a favour and try the chicken and mango chimichangas. The homemade tortilla chips and salsa were a great starter.
Thought Id never taste that wonderful Mexican cuisine again. Yum! Better than ever. Welcome back!
Good Potential, but Needs improvement I recently dined at the Cantina Norte in North Vancouver and have mixed feelings about my experience. While there were some positive aspects, a few issues left me with a 3.5 out of 5 rating. The ambiance of the restaurant was vibrant and inviting, but unfortunately, the noise level was quite overwhelming. Conversations were a struggle as the loud environment made it difficult to hear the person seated next to me. This aspect of the dining experience definitely impacted my overall enjoyment. However, the biggest letdown was the ceviche. As a fan of this dish, I was disappointed to find that the quality didnt meet my expectations. The ceviche lacked the freshness that is integral to this classic dish. The inclusion of tiny frozen shrimp was a misstep, as ceviche is traditionally crafted using only the freshest ingredients. Additionally, the minimal presence of octopus didnt add to the dishs appeal; it was chewy and detracted from the overall texture. On a more positive note, I believe that theres great potential for improvement in the ceviche department. I would like to offer a suggestion to the chef: I would be more than happy to show them how to create a truly outstanding ceviche that would undoubtedly bring customers back. Using fresh, high-quality ingredients and employing traditional preparation methods can make all the difference in delivering a memorable and authentic dish. In conclusion, while the Mexican restaurant has some appealing aspects, such as its inviting atmosphere, the noise level and the disappointing ceviche held back my overall dining experience. With some adjustments and a focus on quality, theres a real opportunity for this restaurant to shine. I hope my feedback can contribute to the restaurants success and future improvements.
Very good margaritas and the ceviche was delicious. Servers are so nice and dogs are welcome on the patio too!
Nice atmosphere. The service was good and the staff friendly. The dishes were delicious, well presented and cooked perfectly. Portions were good.
Such a beautiful restaurant with a large selection of breakfast dishes. The service was very friendly and fairly quick. I would recommend as a brunch place and will definitely be returning sometime.
Love the food & service
Great Sangria
Great atmosphere. Horrible, horrible service (weve gone 3 times, and every time the service has been really bad). Decent food. Good drinks.
Did an impromptu lunch. the food was very fantastic. Ill definitely go back for date night or the such.
Best happy hour and Mexican food on the north shore. Loved the passionfruit margaritas and authentic Guacamole. Dont miss the mango chimichanga and banana coconut cream pie
so we got delivery. taco salad shows on door dash as taco bowl..it was just chips and chimichanga was not fried..had to put in Air fryer. very disappointing. Also no heat and really should mention kale in the taco salad
Nice place, good food, I liked it.....

I cant say enough about the exceptional service we received at this restaurant. My girlfriend and I had been on the road when we suddenly got lost, with both our phones dead and no idea how to get back home. To make matters more challenging, I had a cast on my leg, and my girlfriend needed to use the restroom urgently. The staff at this restaurant went above and beyond to help us out. Not only did they graciously allow my girlfriend to use their restroom, but they also took the time to write out detailed directions to help us find our way back home. Also I deem it necessary to add that this will be the 420th review!
We went for dinner on Thursday night and found this Mexican restaurant. Found out this was the 2nd generation of famed Cafe Norte, reborn & renamed by the son & daughter. Having a sommelier on staff helped us pick a nice Pinot and they provided free homemade nacho chips and salsa to start. Ordered a couple of appetizers; the Shrimp and Chicken Taquitos, and my main course, the Barcacoa, which was delicious. My wife ordered the Taco Salad. Service was spot on, the food was delicious, and great to see many of the original recipes/entrée items brought back from the former Cafe Norte. On the way home, we both agreed this has to be one of the best Mexican restaurants in Metro Vancouver. Tough to live up to reputation, however this restaurant sure did! We will be back..... Parking: Park underneath the restaurant, plenty of covered parking. Garage entrance just to the back of the restaurant. Come up stairs, exit through Thrifty Foods.
Lovely place, delicious food, excellent service! Vegetarian options: There are vegetarian options available Parking: There is parking in the area
This was our first time dining here, and the service was superb! We were attended to right away. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. Will definitely be back.
Great happy hour, starts at 2p or at the bar all the time
A beautifully decorated restaurant with a casual setting. I ordered the Mexican paella and will be tempted to order again - it had a good balance of chorizo, shrimp and mussels, with a nice tough of spice without it being overwhelming. I also sampled my groups orders of ceviche and coconut banana cream pie... will be ordering my own share next time! Both are top choices for an appetizer and dessert respectively.
Really delicious foods!
I loved, really a good place and food!!
beautiful place
Happy hour Margaritas and food! Spectacular visual presentation, excellent quality and flavours galore. Service was also excellent. I wish I had taken more photos.
Great little restaurant. Warm staff. Great service. Delicious food.
Food was generally good. Service was excellent, and I loved the atmosphere. Worth a visit if you re in the area.
Had the queso fondido and the mushroom empanadas. Both were fantastic!
Great place, the original restaurant we were going to was closed We were hungry after the Capilano Christmas lights. We were so fortunate to have stumbled upon this amazing spot. The service was amazing a 10/10, prompt, bringing refills before you ask. Chips brought to the table right away, when you sat down. Food nice size portions and tasty.
Tortilla soup-excellent. Chips and salsa when you sit down and service was great. Nice ambiance. A bit out of the way in Edgemont but if in the neighbourhood will definitely be back!
The space needs more acoustic treatment, otherwise lovely
Why one star when the food and wait staff were good? We were told by the manager while in the middle of enjoying drinks and food after 5 us spent an average of 60CAD each, that they forgot to tell us there s a 2 hour limit and we have to leave now. We WERE regulars - never heard of a 2 hour limit before. Won t see us again.
Our party of five was asked to leave while we were still clearly having our drinks and eating. We were told it s because we were already there for 2 hours and they had guests waiting. We were never informed of a 2 hour limit until our table was approached by the hostess. There was no notice anywhere, not even on their website of any such policy. .Our waitress who was actively still serving us had apparently forgot to let us know of this rule. We were also the only group with people of colour in the entire restaurant. Wait what? Never ever going back!
Loved it
This is the first time I ve enjoyed Mexican food so much. Loved it.
My friend and I dined here today and overall it was a good experience Our server was attentive, and food was served quickly. The restaurant is spacious, and the volume level is perfect so you can have a conversation. My friend enjoyed her mushroom quesadilla and would definitely order it again. It wasn t spicy and had a mild kick to it. The ensalada taco was good, and tasted better with the habanero dip. The Papas bravas tasted like basic hashbrowns, so I would not order them again. The chips and salsa were a nice bonus. We would dine here again. Vegetarian options: This place is somewhat vegetarian friendly, but it s not my go to place for a vegetarian meal Dietary restrictions: Vegan, gluten-free and vegetarian options available Parking: Underground parking is free for the first 2 hours
