Upscale West Coast dining at Grouse Mountain, the Peak of Vancouver. TThe Observatory offers a whole new culinary experience high above the city. The restaurant’s breathtaking panoramic view of the city provides an inspiring backdrop to enjoy seasonal West Coast cuisine and an award-winning wine list.

Food was good. Service was just ok, probably cause I was in a bad mood due to the crappy view we got from our table. Manager said he would see about moving us, but then never came by again. My recommendation is to call and see when they're going to be busy, then book a reservation 30min prior. I booked for 6:45pm tonight so my wife and I could watch the sunset and the Vancouver lights come on. When we arrived, all the good tables were full, and we got a view of a ski lift pole. Ugh. Love and learn, I guess. The Vancouver night sky pic was taken from an observation deck beside the restaurant.
We truly enjoyed our meal and time at the Observatory. The staff was amazing, and made sure we were cared for at a high level. They service was impeccable The food was delicious The scenery was incredible We enjoyed arriving early enough to see the lumberjack show ,the raptor show, the ski lift and those two amazing bears! If you have not experienced the Observatory,or Grouse mountain yet,we would encourage you to see for yourself Enjoy!
When you go for a 3 meal course dinner for $100, you expect extraordinary good food and service. Sadly, we had been disappointed. This place is a stunning location above Vancouver with a fantastic view. But the food was not as good. There was a function at the same time, and first, we waited 30 min for the starter and then 45 again for the main. The service at the table was great, but the kitchen seems to be in trouble. While the starter was good, the main left us down. The Gnocchi we starchy, cold and tasteless, the Agnus beef was colder than the warmed plated coming on undercooked and unseasoned lentils. We decided not to take the deserts and leave early. The restaurant offered compensation for the disappointment, which we greatfully accepted. The deserts we got as takeaway, having them later the day another disappointment. Textures and taste were average, and some flavor combinations were too experimental to make an extraordinary dish. Only because of this I rate the service and the place overall 4 stars, not because of the kitchen and food. All in all, the quality of the food did not match the price - taking into account that this location requires a bit more logistics. It was thought to be our highlight di ner on our vacation and anniversary, but we will have to look for another place in town for that.
I went to Grouse Mountain and tried this restaurant for lunch. Good food, staff is friendly. We had salmon and the tomato soup, the vegan chocolate dessert was outstanding 🤩 oh and we started with the calamari
Highly recommended whether you are a local or visiting Vancouver. The view was spectacular, as expected. Service and food was also amazing!! The only thing I’d note is it’s NOT wheelchair accessible, you will have to climb some stairs, so be mindful of that if you are coming with someone with mobility issues.
I had the pleasure of dining at The Observatory today, and I must say, it exceeded all my expectations. The chef crafted truly magical dishes bursting with flavors that left me in awe. Our server, Flora, was an absolute delight. Her warmth and friendliness made the experience even more enjoyable. She effortlessly checked on us, ensuring our comfort without any hint of awkwardness. Flora truly went above and beyond to make our date night a resounding success. If you find yourself in Vancouver, I highly recommend dining at The Observatory. Additionally, our reservation came with the added bonus of a complimentary Gondola ride to the mountain top, adding an extra layer of magic to an already unforgettable evening.
Visiting grouse mountain is almost every summer activity but never dined at this beautiful little restaurant called observatory. The ambiance is not only beautiful but cozy & picturesque too. There are many food and beverage options but we tried the 3 course menu & I must say that it’s worth the price. Every item was delectable and the service added cherry on top. I will be visiting again and especially for a nice date night. Snow activity and good dinner makes it perfect but sit down before 9 pm as that is the last kitchen order.
Restaurant was overall very fine. Three of us went - two enjoyed the view, service and food. One enjoyed the view and service . He is a vegetarian, and the vegetarian option was a joke - a few bits of cauliflower sprinkled round the plate. At those prices this is beyond a joke. The chef must surely be able to do better than this.
This is my favorite restaraunt on the North Shore. Delicious food, and a great atmosphere. I find a lot of restaraunts, even fancier ones, can tend to be a bit loud. This one is often a nice quiet space to enjoy a nice 3 course meal and a few glasses of wine. They also seem to source alot of foods and wines locally which is a nice touch. Also very accessible by bus, reservations come with a free ticket on the gondola too, which is a great way to end the evening, looking over the city during the descent.
Not all tables have views. Not worth it if you are seated elsewhere. Window tables cannot be reserved. Big disappointment .
We went there thinking we had booked at the other restaurant on the other side of the building so we felt very underdressed for that venue. Google maps showed reviews from that other restaurant which is what confused us at the first place. Cant really comment on the food because we ended up going to the other restaurant after a long wait for our table due to a group that was never leaving. Not really their fault, but we were famished and decided to leave. That evening was very busy and the staff looked very overworked which explains why the service at both restaurants was so chaotic. They were all very gracious and helpful despite the situation, though.
Great location, with an incredibly beautiful view of Vancouver. Its best to go up at sunset. It was quite full at the top of the mountain station, but after about 5 minutes of waiting we were greeted warmly and given a seat. Service came quite quickly. After waiting about 10 minutes we had our drinks and after about 30 minutes our food. The staff was very nice and attentive. Food tastes good and there is something for every taste. Price-performance was right. Was a nice experience.
-Hostess We have booking at 6:30pm.we came at 6 and the hostess told us that our table.is not yet ready but she keeps on accepting walk in.when we are inside there is 3 tables of 2s that is available. They dont even offer us a seat while we wait. -Service 20 mins passed when we sat down and nobody come to our table to ask if need water or if we are ready to order so i just raised my hand just to let them know that we are ready. -Special Request on Email Reservation I put a note in my reservation that we are celebrating our 6 years Anniversary but nothing special i thought they are going to write something on the dessert that we ordered. -Overall Experience Not Satisfied and Nothing Special Food is just okay nothing special the lentils amd corn on the beef is not fresh taste bad.the beef is a bit tough.
Wow such a great ending to an awesome day! Book restaurant reservations and ride the gondola for free! Food is French style very good and the view can t be beat! Highly recommended Vancouver tourist experience. It was actually AI recommended and it was right on the point!
The most beautiful view of Vamcouver with first-class food and perfect service. Anyone who affords The Observatory has done everything right. The food is beautifully presented and very tasty and our service Lindsay was first class. Always there when you needed them and always super friendly, just like the majority of Canadians are. A great experience and highly recommended. Vegetarian options: There is a good selection of vegetarian dishes on the menu Dietary restrictions: Are requested when booking and on site and are taken into account in a first-class manner Wheelchair accessibility: There are elevators
Amazing experience and awesome service. The food was really great and even though we were late for our reservation the staff waited for us to be done and waited with the last gandola to go back down. Thank you so much for an amazing experience
I went to there on 05/20/24 at around 6:30 pm and we ordered quesadilla but guess what we got an extra ingredient that was HAIR just not one but a bunch of HAIR. The manager said that they will take care of the bill, but everything was coming from the same kitchen and possibly the same chef. It is just so disgusting; WE were starving when we went there, we didnt even feel like eating after everything. We gave it a second go, but Naah we were unable to eat anything from thereafter and there was no option available there for food at that time coz we had to sit there for 2 hours. Horrible first experience. Am working in hospitality & Tourism industry and never gonna refer someone to go there
Truly one of the most horrible dinner I ve ever paid for and huge $$$$ for. Any previous good review for the Observatory could only have been due to a different menu or perhaps lots of wine. 5 people at our table and not one felt ANY part of the meal was even worth a good rating. Prawns overcooked with a nasty marinate. Duck? Was it? Beets that looked good but weren t. Halibut the size of a dice. The Angus steak with mushy lentils supposedly prepared for days and some odd taste with every bite. The kid s burger at the next table looked so much better. How hard is it to have good desserts? Apparently quite hard. The manager should spend more time on planning quality meals than coming around the table to talk about the food. Rambling on doesn t make the food any better. Horrible. The view was stunning but an unfortunate place to pick to celebrate my husband s 60th birthday. Can t get that day back! Our server was quite nice but I could not rate him alone as I had to take into account the hostess that mocked my husband for whispering by actually whispering back. If only he could have taken a picture of her face when he told her he has throat cancer; hence him struggling to speak. Horrible experience. Rinse do not repeat!
Being a popular place, the waiting is worthwhile. The food is good and the service is outstanding!!! ... and then is the view If youre visiting Vancouver this place is worth the trip. Food
Great food and incredible views! Lindsey was a wonderful server, really genuine - the best I ve had in Vancouver so far!
The view is worth coming for alone and the service from Lynsey was second to none. We ve been In Vancouver for three months and this is the best service we ve had so far. Most places it feels fake and forced but the way Lynsey spoke to us felt really genuine like she wanted to help us she made the experience what it was!
Beautiful surroundings
The most incredible place Ive ever been!!!
Such a great experience. Our server, Lindsay, was wonderful and the food was even better than expected
Tried Vegan Tasting Menu curated by Executive Chief Ron Stratton. That was the most delicious vegan meal I have ever tried in my life. I regret being vegan already because it could be the best possible way for omnivores to be seduced by vegan cuisine.
I would not recommend this place. It was 28th of Jan and no apology the blonde hostess messed up our free ride ticket and she has a huge chip on her shoulder. And for whatever reason, she was helping our server to bring out the food - she tossed food across the table with the very bad attitude. $643 dinner with the rather racist, non-trained, entitled person is completely way to ruin the dinner experience.
We had a wonderful dinner at the Observatory. The food and service were great. We appreciated the west coast esthetic of the dining room as well. Well be back!
I ve been to Canada quite often by now and there are only a few places I consider a must go to and even a better even a second time . And the Observatory is one of these places. The food, the service, the view. No way to exaggerate. Hugo and his team went the extra mile to promote a great evening to a wonderful one. If you are in BC, you should come here. And Hugo, as I told you: 5 out of 5 :)
The food, view, and service was amazing! Our server Flora made it an even better Valentine s Day experience! The experience was wonderful and definitely a must for a special occasion!
In order to come here for dinner during the holidays and weekends, you need to make a reservation early. I called in October for a Saturday in December. It was well worth it. The prix fixe menu includes the price of the tickets. The Santa Village is up during the holidays. The food is good. We had a large party and we ordered quite a few different things from the menu. I heard compliments on every dish. The weather was good today. The night view of Vancouver was wonderful. Wheelchair accessibility: The Observatory is wheelchair accessible. The building it is in has no elevator. So to access the lower part of the building where the gift shop is, you will have to use the ramp outside. The Santa Village and lights walk is gravely with patches of ice and snow. Not recommended for persons with walking aid or wheelchair.
It s easy to tell why it s called the observatory since the view from it must be epic when it s not cloudy. That didn t hinder our experience, however, since most of the experience was great. The three course meal was well worth the steep price because everything tasted incredible and the presentation was photo worthy. The drinks were fine, but the old fashioned I ordered was made using crushed ice I d expect this from a random bar on the side of the road, but not a fancy venue like this. Since they didn t use one large cube or spherical ice, the drink was very watered down and was one of the most diluted old fashioneds I ve ever had. Didn t hinder the experience too much, but this is a good note to management. Also a good note to you maybe don t order the old fashioned if you like them strong. The service was great aside from the poorly-made cocktail, with the staff checking in on us frequently and being really polite. I d definitely eat here again for a special occasion.
A wonderful dining experience with an excellent view of Vancouver, BC. The staff were extremely friendly, their knowledge of the menu, impressive. Paired a local shiraz with the meal of HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS, CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF STRIPLOIN, and DARK CHOCOLATE GANACHE. A gastronomic delight for us all.
Did a winter sunset dinner there tonight and it was fantastic. Our server Fiona was warm and attentive and had us laughing through our mains. The scallops were a standout. Highly recommend the whole experience with the gondola and being able to explore the mountain prior.
I ve been to The Observatory many times in the past and always loved the menu and everything they made. I came back after they were closed for the pandemic and re opened as a foundue only menu. The first course was nice, cheese foundue was great quality. The meat one was def not worth as well as the chocolate one. The meat foundue had meat and seafood and bbq + teria my sauces - really nothing special. The chocolate foundue had one fruit only (pineapple), marshmallows and store bought waffles. For $75 dollars per person, the portions were not as big and the meat and chocolate foundue were very cheap quality. I hope the quality improves, this used to be an amazing place.
My experience in this restaurant was like a horror movie. I was expecting a nice dinner with a friend, but the food was disappointing. We were expecting a fantastic experience, with many vegetarian choices, since my friend is vegetarian. However, there were limited choices, including cold chopped waffles with chocolate (probably 15 years old, since they were off), cold potatoes with melted cheese, and limited fruit variety (only Pineapple). Additionally, do not expect a luxury experience service since we were served by a server who probably did not receive her payment last month since she was angry with us. I still dont know for what reason, despite spending almost 100$ for food I wouldnt give to my dog. In conclusion, if you want to spend your monthly salary on overpriced food, horrible service, and awful attention, then this is the place for you. The only nice thing about the restaurant is the place; other than that, unfortunately, the food is not up to regular standards. I can cook better than that... Vegetarian options: Limited options.
Terrible experience with the quality and the quantity of the food. Avoid this place. used to be a great place to dine but now, it has gone downhill very badly. The worst dining experience of my life.
Absolutely beautiful venue with the best views in the city. Really an embarrassingly stingy fondue. On a $60/person meal, Id be surprised if the food cost was $6. Please just use the Altitudes Bistro menu and dont embarrass us who bring family and friends up the mountain to share in the beauty.
The service and view is great but not the food unfortunately! :( We ordered a beef burger, which was totally burnt. So asked our server if we could get another one. The second one was burnt too!! So anyway we ended up ordering pasta, but that was also 4-5/10!! The manager offered us some discount on the pasta, which is nice of them :) but I dont think we would go back again.
This is sadly a review Id prefer not make BUT for the sake of either having the Observatory improve upon or warn off potential guests. We decided to not only celebrate New Year, BUT an 80th Birthday. Without a doubt the view is amazing and we got lucky with a clear night. However, $75 per person X 8 people plus wine etc. Portions for 2 people (at other tables) were the same they provided to 4 people in our group. Crouton sized bread and mini potatoes were first course, tasteless broth for protein, 1 shrimp per person, along with bay scallops (small) along with a low end cut of beef. A slice of Birthday Cake wasnt even attainable for an 80 Birthday. Pineapple chunks, 1 marshmallow per person. Was disappointing on all levels. $600 plus tax, tip, and alcohol on top. Per person shouldve been a $20 max.. No joke.
We did the snow shoe / fondue evening with our work group. It s great that they have a private group area as we tromped in with our wet gear etc . The cheese fondue was absolutely to die for .the best thing we ate all night . The second course ( the proteins cooked in broth fondue) wasn t great . The broth had no flavour ( add some salt and garlic and ginger and chilies !) so the salmon , beef, scallops, prawns and veggies came out having no flavour and the accompanying sauces were pretty lame . We ended up asking for soya sauce and hot sauce and mixed our own sauce . The final course ( the chocolate fondue ) was delicious but it would have been nice to have more than one fruit ( which was pineapple ) and maybe a luscious pound cake instead of waffles. It would take very little to put this fondue thing they do over the top ( flavourful broth , more fruit , and a delicious cake ) . Having said all that , we had a lovely evening .
I would vote 0 stars if it was possible. WASTE OF MONEY! If it is a fine dining, then you better serve fine food. If you only have a fondue in your menu, then you better be good at it! Food was the worst thing that I have ever had. First course: Melted cheese with stale bread and couple of small potatoes. Bread was not fresh at all. I wouldn t have that bread even in my breakfast. Melted cheese taste no better than any store-bought cheese. Second course: Vegetable broth fondue(?) with meat of your choice (we selected beef, scallops and salmon). This is not a fondue, it is the worst hot pot you can ever had. Broth is tasteless. Beef was stew beef chunks, not even the high quality one. This course is a huge disappointment even it is the main dish (!) Third course: chocolate fondue with fruit and marshmallows. Even the chocolate was terrible. If you buy an average quality chocolate from a store, it would have been more delicious than the served one. Ughh This place is like a joke. They serve you the worst meal with nice service and scenery. Then they expect you to believe that this is a fine dining. We paid $400+tax+tip for 4 people. Not worth a penny, big mistake!
I had the most wonderful experience! Fondue was great! Super good wine and cocktails! The weather cooperated and we had amazing views such a nice experience I will keep it in my heart forever
A very enjoyable experience in a beautiful setting. The food was quite good. Next time we will skip the broth course and just do the cheese and chocolate fondue. Service was shockingly slow - we were there for 3 hours for the 3 course fondue. Not terrible if you have the time but definitely could have delivered things to the table faster and cut that down by an hour.
It was a great night for Valentines Day and I had such terrible food, I came home with diarrhea the whole time! Im Chinese and totally hate this hot pot, no taste, use barbecue sauce as hot pot dipping sauce? I suspect there is no chef in the back kitchen! The per capita consumption is 100! I comfort myself that the scenery is worth it!
Came for the three course fondue menu. What an awesome night. Our waitress was friendly and played well with us while we were kidding around with her. Food was excellent and the view, oh that view.
You are paying for an experience here, however would have expected the food to match the experience, which it definitely did not. The food was below par for the price point. The ambiance, service and wine was excellent.
Honest food, unmissable view, easy access including ski lift. Crystal the manager is very friendly
Went there for a birthday dinner last night and everything was amazing. Not only was the food phenomenal, our server Odessa went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect and even brought over candles with the chocolate fondue! Give that girl a raise she was amazing.
OMG !! This restaurant is amazing. The food is delicious. The views are absolutely gorgeous. The servers are excellent. We were served by Odessa, who is one of the best hospitality professionals Ive met. 10/10. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!
Of course the views are spectacular but I was very impressed by the food and the service. Staff are professional but friendly and the food was delicious - honestly so much better than we had anticipated (and we didnt go thinking it would be bad!). The burrata and lemon tarte were highlights.
The view is stunning, & the service was friendly enough. They had run out of one of the dishes on their fixed prix menu, (during peak dinner time on a Friday) & given there were only 3 options to choose from, that was pretty disappointing. We asked if there was an alternative option, & the server said yes, but i really wouldn t recommend it & discouraged us from ordering it. This place has a prime location & SO much potential, but feels lacking in the finer details & quality that would make both the food & experience truly memorable.
Best view in Vancouver! A lovely set menu (mains were tenderloin and sablefish), excellent cocktails, and friendly, down to earth service. What more can you ask for?
Parking: Pay parking is out of order, had to go to the customer service and paid for the ticket. Food
good
Amazing value and scenery. Excellent service with refined food and wine pairings. Would return in the future!
Had a great family dinner here. Very nice staff. Would recommend!
Great
60min wait for fries and a sub sandwich. Not a great experience Dietary restrictions: N/a Food : 4/5 |
Super slow service, we waited more than 45mins to an hour for a burger. Servers are not personable and unprofessional. I dont recommend this restaurant at all cost.
When we planned our summer vacation to Vancouver, we literally stumbled across The Observatory and made our reservation right away. The views speak for themselves, and our server was very friendly and talkative with a great sense of humor. Overall, it was a great experience. Im not one for social commentary, but I feel I need to explain the 4 star ranking for Atmosphere. It was no fault of the employees or the restaurant....its because of two specific tables and the customers seated there. I am by no means a perfect person and have my faults, but when dining in a location such as The Observatory, please exercise some form of etiquette. Im not sure if its post COVID, certain members of todays generation, or something else, but when youre sitting at a table in close quarters with other customers, keep your volume down. No one is interested in your life that much, and using the word Like nine times in a sentence makes you sound uneducated. And one other thing.....dont ask to sample the wines to see which one you like. If you dont know what you like when its comes to wine... Dont drink it!! Get a cola......
The food was good, but the speed of the service was seriously lacking. It took 10 minutes before a server even greeted us at the table, then took another 5 minutes before the drinks arrived. Same for the food service...slow. Dont get me wrong, the staff was friendly and kind, just a lot of waiting.
Lovely Reasturant overlooking the bay and city we went up in the evening with a couple we meet on our tour John&Janet it was Johns birthday and we had a lovely meal the views were unreal you need to go there to see just how real they are the gondola was great too it was only the 4 of us on the way up but was full coming back down lovely
What an incredible and memorable experience for my sisters bachelorette dinner. The view is absolutely stunning and the food is very very good. What made the evening next level was the service from Lindsay. She truly went above and beyond to make the evening special. One of the best dining experiences in a long time. Thank you, Lindsay. You re a gem.
A special occasion with the family that was made even better from the service we received from Courtney, she was amazing! On top of that the food was exceptional and the view was obviously spectacular. Highly recommended. Thanks Courtney.
Terrible services, we waited more than an hour and a half and the food never arrived at all...... I obviously had to cancel the account, already starving,,,,, I would never return
Excellent views & a really kind group of staff but the kitchen seems to be a little overwhelmed right now as everyone was waiting for quite some time before receiving food.
The food are hit and miss. Dont forget they give you free rides to the mountain. It is worthy more than the half of the price. I value this place with free ride only. Well, foods. I tried here for 2 times in 4 weeks. Tenderloin was okay. The sauce was good. Dont stick with Medium rare they recommended. It was too raw and chewy- if you see what Chewy means for steak. I tried both Medium rare and Well done which was for my 10 years old daughter- and well done was better. Scallops were fine each time. A little bit too salty. Salmon app- was not too bad. I mean not too bad. Well, Sable fish main was horrible. I didnt see anything attractive about this dish, It smelled fishy and tasted fishy, a spoon was provided for the broth and the broth tasted water with fishy smell. It was a horrible dish. ----Lemon tart dessert looked fine and tasted okay. With $10 extra, this one was more than worthy. There was no table bread provided to the table. I asked one during the first visit and our kind server asked and brought us focaccia breads for free after he told us there was no table bread anymore. The bread was not good and hard, but I thanks to him. I would like to expect fine dishes from this fine restaurant. You already have good people working there, why couldnt you serve better foods? The Altitude which is next to you have better,....just better foods, sadly.
The place to show Vancouver at its best. We very much enjoyed scallops, sable & beef all presented by a gentleman of a server. A little secret is to gondola early and catch one of the free shows, we highly recommend the lumberjack.
On our recent visit to Vancouver we sort of stumbled on this Restaurant at the top of Grouse Mountain. Thanks to a Google review, we found out that the gondola ride was free with a restaurant booking, so took the plunge. Ride tickets were valid from 4pm for our 6pm reservation, giving us enough time to see the bears (sad they are in an enclosure but better than the alternative) and part of the flying bird display. Menu a little limited, but was delicious (made even more so by exceeding our expectations!) and the view over Vancouver was spectacular. Special mention for the beef tenderloin, and the puddings but everything was a delight.
It was a really nice evening the food was amazing It s the perfect place for special occasions Food
great food great staff. food was amazing and the views were spectacular! make sure to have reservation when dining here. ordered Beef Tartare Beef Tenderloin Lemon Tarte good thing we were in groups so thats why we able to try out everything on their menu! you can so 2 or 3 course meal and they have a nice selection of drink menu too.
Excellent, I recommend it.
Great views. Tasty food. Professional staff. What more can you ask for? This is a restaurant that looks down upon the city of Vancouver and its watery passageways. The view is different in the sun, under the stars, with a full moon, or with the city shrouded in fog. You get a complimentary gondola ride up to the restaurant which makes an epic commute! Currently there is a two/three course option which Im sure changes with the season. Dont forget to pay for parking before you head to the gondola ride Vegetarian options: Each course has at least one vegetarian option. Wheelchair accessibility: Fully accessible from parking lot through gondola and then across to the restaurant.
I went to The Observatory to celebrate being cancer-free after completing 10 months of chemotherapy. The staff were lovely and warm, and even brought out a congratulations flight of rosé bubbly for everyone at the table. The food was extremely well prepared, plated and tasted amazing. I recommend the burrata to start and the wild foraged mushroom pappardelle as a main. A big thank you for making the night so special for me; I missed being able to really enjoy food and it was the perfect reintroduction to the joy of a beautiful meal with loved ones. Vegetarian options: No vegan option, but there are delicious vegetarian options for their 2 and 3 course meals. Highly recommend.
I visited The Observatory yesterday and while the location and food were good as always, the service was not up to par. This was not my first time at the restaurant, and I can say that there was enough staff even with one bigger table in such a small restaurant. We received a free appetizer but did not have water yet. Then we got our appetizer but waited 15 minutes for the bottle of wine that I had ordered for my appetizer. We had to ask to get a refill of water twice ( not even from our server as I had to wave someone down ) and the overall service was not great at all. For the amount of money I pay when going to such a restaurant, I do want an experience that I could not create at home, which we not get.
Theyre the only option to eat up there and they defiantly know that.
Small portions $100 per head but they comp the sky ride up. Put notes on the reservation when they prompted but no arrangement was made for the one little one at the table, they brought her boiled pasta and a side of salmon, charged the full price per head plus extra for the side of salmon, made us wait 40 min even with a reservation, table view was not great .. would not repeat or recommend. They missed the note that it was our anniversary.. sorry state of management
Views are great and it feels fantastic after a hike. Music is a bit loud in the restaurant. Otherwise, service is normal and ok. The girls are friendly and typically superficial like waitresses. Food is too expensive (30 bucks) and not good enough for the quality and quantity you ll get. Burger (dry bun), meat: normal, fries: small. We go for it occasionally because we enjoy the view.
Restaurant is on top of Grouse mountain with beautiful view of the City of V. C. The Brunch buffet had good selection of food. It is pricey with an 18% service charge. Service was friendly. The lift ticket was included.
We had the fondue there but it was ok. There wasn t enough broth to last the entire meal we so ended up dumping it all in the pot. The skewer was small so it was hard to cook the tiny scallops. The view was fantastic tho. Will have to try the other menu items
Great view with stunning scenery
Excellent service from Joliane in French!! We ordered different dishes to share. Very good restaurant and good view. Thanks Sean for helping us with the table reservation.
I usually would not review a restaurant without eating there first, but this has to be the worst service I have had in a long time. Trying to book a larger party for family coming into town. No response from 2 messages and after calling and speaking to someone who said they would confirm and call me back right away, and then never heard back. This is not fine dining service. They should not advertise as such if they cannot treat guests appropriately. Too bad too, we love Grouse and have been loyal customers for years, skiing passes every season, bringing guests up, dining, etc . not after this.
Went to The Observatory with friends for dinner. The ride up in the gondola got better and better as we went up, it offers an amazing view of the city below. We took a walk around prior to going in we saw the bears and more amazing views. Dinner was amazing everything from the wine to the dessert were delicious and beautifully presented. The view from the restaurant itself is breathtaking, especially as the lights come on in the city below. Worth the time and effort to dine here.
Was disappointed in the Service. We re told we would get a window table and another group was moved to a window table before us even though they were seated at another table after us. Plus we ordered our entries and then told the wait staff we were going out to see the view. My glass of alcohol half full was taken away along with my utensils. Very disappointed. All this after spending $500.
Really great food, service and staff. They are undergoing some changes, bit dont let this stop you from going. Great view of course. Looking forward to when they open another bar for the restaurant.
Amazing experience. Great service. Went to dine here while visiting BC.
I cant believe this joke of a restaurant I made a reservation for my vacation and they decided to cancel my reservation on the last day. I was travelling yesterday and didnt have access to my email or phone and they canceled. Unbelievable. The worst part is that they dont answer the phone or anything. Avoid them they will ruin your day
Visited twice, disappointed twice. We always come and are told there will be a 30-minute wait despite the empty restaurant. They say they will put you on the waitlist, and you can sit at the bar and have a drink. Tactic to get more money out of you; otherwise, I dont understand the issue.
My husband and I had a lovely dinner here; everything was excellent and memorable. If you are lucky will get a spot next to a window, It is impressive to see the sunset through the mountains and on the ocean; it couldn t be better. Such a beautiful scenery with breathtaking views.
Didnt eat anything from here but the views and seating were great.
Our group reserved a view table , over looking the downtown towers and West Vancouver village. I ordered Grilled Sockeye Salmon , with a side of 6 inch anchovies pizza and Calamari . This restaurant is unique and has breath taking views of the forest below and the Stanley park. Make sure you visit it soon. We are spending the day up here pitching our tents in a hidden corner of the Beaver Trail.
Delicious and fast service.
The view is obviously incredible, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. Wild mushroom tart was great, the duck poutine was amazing, as was the burger!
Fabulous restaurant, the foods , drinks were amazing! Highly recommended
We have been to this restaurant twice during the holidays. Both times we had great food... but horrible service. The view is stunning and the restaurant is quaint but they really need to do a restaffing. We came with some friends and the waiter brought out bread that was frozen in the middle and a lady came over to us and told us it was the new hostesses fault and ridiculed her infront of us (so unprofessional). She then brought us back bread without butter while we were eating our mains, which was useless. Salad was amazing but the steak was under cooked. The second time we came with a group of 15 people for a Christmas dinner. They completely messed up, when we asked the host at the front to hang our jackets he refused to do it until 5 mins before our reservation and proceeded to make us to it ourselves. We then got to the table and ordered wine which we had to pour ourselves into water glasses since nobody came to help us. The waitress was absent most of the times and when she did come and we asked for things she would roll her eyes at us and storm away. Eventually we just had to help ourselves. It seemed like they ran out of a lot of things on the menu including wines which was frustrating. It is a good space and has huge potential, but it needs a lot of work to make it worth it.
Amazing views. Excellent service!
Booked for Christmas lunch. Every mouthful was incredible. Plus gives you a free ride up the Gondola.
Absolutely amazing spot ! We chose to ring in 2020 on top of grouse grind ... The food was very good , with great service. Check the weather in advance as on cloudy or foggy days you might not have any view ... We got lucky and after midnight the clouds went away and we got to start the new decade with the amazing view of Vancouver from the top of grind ... Thank you for making last night so memorable:) This is definitely one of the top restaurants with view in Vancouver:)
Food was super great! And service was wonderful.
This was a strange visit.. they used to be more strict about their dress code. Most diners were in jeans and T-shirts, or athletic wear from being outside in the snow. There was someone at another table that was watching videos (with sounds) on their phone for about the first 20 minutes of our seating, which was very distracting and irritating not just to ourselves, but we could see other diners also irritated. None of the servers did anything until a diner asked them about it. And then there s the food... in the past we have thoroughly enjoyed the food here, and I don t know if quality was down because this time around we visited during the dine out Vancouver menu or if there have been some chef/personnel changes, but other than a nicely cooked steak my partner had, the food was all one note: overly rich and unbalanced. First of all, bread was served with butter topped with olive oil!? Why butter AND oil? The celeriac soup was nice, but was garnished with apple slices and hazelnuts, all very sweet; it would have been nice to have something fresh or peppery to contrast and compliment the sweetness of the soup. The vegetarian entree was pasta with mushrooms, absolutely drowning in a creamy fontina sauce, which did not need the addition of a barely poached egg (which I found very unappetizing), I found one or two pieces of cooked greens, which were a nice reprieve from the salty, rich sauce. The chocolate ganache dessert was about 4 times larger than necessary, and the plate was decorated with little drops of some unappetizing, gritty, sugary substance. The best part was the fresh fruit sorbet, of which there was just a tiny amount. I m quite disappointed, this was definitely not the quality and experience we were looking forward to, and not worth the nearly $200 for 2 people.
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary dinner here during Dine Out Vancouver. It was a fantastic experience! Our server Michaela was nothing short of amazing and the host was really helpful as well. The kitchen was able to accommodate some dietary restrictions I have despite the set menu being served that night, our meals were delicious! The inclusion of the gondola ticket with the dinner reservation is great too, as the evening costs no more than any other fine dining experience. It was our first time at the Observatory, but certainly wont be our last!
Nice atmosphere and great view. Food is good but pricy for the quality. I guess you pay for the location. Overall good experience.
Incredible food and great service! We had a great time, thanks!
The scenery is great, but it is no longer a dine out menu, because most restaurants dine out menus are cutting corners. Imagine that a main course usually costs 40+, a starter is 12+, and a dessert is 10+. If you are given $45 for 3 courses from starter to dessert , isn t he going to lose money? The regula menu should be the right choice, but unfortunately the Regula is not very good, so the main course is: the scenery.
Experience was alright, my first reservation was cancelled because of high winds so I rebooked. This year, found that the service was decent but they were so busy with only two servers, ruined the experience a little.
Technically they ruined everyone s Valentines day dinner. Sitting here for 3 hours and still not getting our main course! People are complaining, and the manager is just saying sorry! Too bad, this place was one of my favorites. Update: At the end we got %50 discount. Thought to mention it here just to be fair.
Had a stellar experience at this restaurant. Started with some baked oysters which were slightly overpriced, but otherwise the Ling Cod and Pork main dishes were absolutely delicious, both carrying balanced flavor profiles. These mains really stole the show that evening. The ambiance of the restaurant is well maintained, not too noisy, and is situated in a cozy little room with a spectacular view over the city at night. Be sure to go during clear weather!
I hardly rant or review restaurants, but I felt like I really had to about this experience. We were there for Valentines Day dinner. First time experience at the restaurant as well. Service was extremely slow for us, but it seemed to go pretty quick for some tables. It was a 5 course set menu for everyone. Our protein dishes were given to a vegetarian table not once but twice. 1 table that came in when we were having our 3rd dish, caught up to us. We were both having our 5th dish at the same time, while they came in 1.5 hrs after us? Not sure what happened there... Mandatory 18% gratuity. I m ok giving 18% if the service was actually worth it. In my opinion, it was not.
Its a fine dining restaurant with a serene setting. I went for dinner so there wasnt too much to see since it was dark and foggy, but Im sure on a clear day the view is magnificent. The food fell short of expectation. I got the chicken for 2 to share with my friend. The sides were way better than the chicken. Usually I dont mind the rougher texture of chicken breast but this whole chicken was so dry, we didnt finish it. At some point we even noticed some pink near the thigh piece. They told me it was cooked using the sous vide method but the execution was definately a fail. Our server was really understanding after we let her know and she removed the chicken off our bill.
Have a table book in advanced to get the free Skyride - The Gondola. Also, please have a weather forecast ready and choose a day with least cloudy day. For the food, the portions are pretty good so ask the server if you are in doubt what can be and what cannot be shared. And it tastes good.
Excellent food. The new ownership definitely shows!
great views
the food was so expensive for the quality and taste also design was ordinary . I ordered five courses menu . Service was so slow and they charged me 18% for that. I even emailed them to the email they provided but the address is not correct! So baaad!
Food used to be very good but not anymore....
The ultimate romantic experience. Excellent place to dine with your loved one!! The view is extremely beautiful. The restaurant is located all the way on the top of the mountain 1,200 m at its peak. Must see restaurant the best !!! There so much to seee up there
The ultimate romantic experience. Excellent place to dine with your loved one. Highly recommended!
Nice place to watch plants and friendly birds
This place is just awesome! Wonderful view, great atmosphere and delicious food. We had a wonderful evening last night. One point less, because the waiter throwed the check after we paid. Obviously she was not satisfied with 13% tip. We had our reasons which I won t discuss here at this plattform we gave 13% and not 20... we were so shocked she flinged the invoice in that rude way and just left without saying goodbye that it unfortunately left such a bad feeling, and kind of damaged the whole experience. While having dinner we said, wow, we will definitely visit the place for a second time the whole week we are spending now in Vancouver. But after that experience we are afraid to come back. Nevertheless absolutely recommendable place and 5 Star worth. Thank you very much again.
Fabulous view, fresh food, good service.
I like this place for coffee.
The food and the view is amazing. This is by far my favorite high end restaurant in the lower mainland.
You get great view of Vancouver. The food here is a little bit pricey, but at least it tastes better than the food in the Chalet.
Make sure you dont want to come up grouse early if you are dining here. We had a 6pm reservation and at 3:30 were told it will be $200 for us to get to top as tickets are only complimentary within 1 Hour of our reservation. Absolute cheapskates very disappointing.
good food, nice location, however service and interior far from state of the art, you have to know that not even half of the tables have a view/ window... seating is a little tricky
The summer menu is amazing. The lime cheesecake came with this caramelized apricot sage stuff on the side, and the combo literally made me cry. I had to wipe my nose with a napkin. Service was amazing and the view was incredible - but dont count on a windowside seat, its luck of the draw. Spinach strangalopreti was also to die for... so good!
Very nice view on vancouver, when the weather is fine
Goooooood
Wonderful place. Recommend
Double charged us on multiple things. Very disorganized service. Food was good though.
A must see when visiting Vancouver
menu was fantastic
The whole experience is amazing. The fact you don t need to pay for using the gondola when going to the restaurant is a win-win. The taste of the food is good as the presentation. So, you will pay to eat a bit + enjoy the bears + enjoy the view of Vancouver. It is worthy. If you like eating big portions it might be a bit price.
excellent place to see the City of Vancouver
Great place to visit
Too cold, but cool
Central place to relax and enjoy some simple meal
Salmon was very delicious
Fine restaurant on the top of the mountain. Few, but good dishes. Insider tip: reserve a table online and the Golden Olen ride (otherwise C$59 per person) is free. A main course costs around C$38, a beer costs C$9, a glass of red wine costs C$15. The view is priceless.
Climbed the grouse grind and felt accomplished. The attractions are pretty cool. The lumberjack show was my favourite. Although the climb up was free make sure you bring money for the way down which was $15.
Such an amazing spot! We had the 5 course meal and it was delicious! The staff were lovely and that view is incredible!
I came here for my birthday dinner with both family visiting from out of town and here. The food was excellent, on par with some Michelin-starred establishments Ive been to. The service was unfortunately hit and miss, and I wanted to give this place at least 4 stars but because of that its going to be a 3. When we arrived there was no one at front desk and we had to go inside to find someone. It turned out to be the manager who was very welcoming and accomodating in taking pictures for us. Our server was nice and attentive, and gave a couple of souvenirs to the younger children, which was greatly appreciated, but the two other waiters were lacking in any smiles or enthusiasm. In fact, when the mains came one of them said to my daughter Arent you going to move that plate for me? which somewhat startled her as she didnt realize he had her main ready for her- he had made no previous verbal announcement of the dish as is usually customary in other restaurants. Then when we had finished our mains we went outside to look at the gorgeous sunset and take a few pictures, as most other diners tend to do when they come here. We were all out for about 10 minutes, but when I came back I found that our desserts, along with my slice of birthday cake were just left on the table with the candle already lit. As the rest of the party came back in no one came to follow up with us, i.e. to wish me a happy birthday, or ask if we wanted any coffee etc. to go with the desserts. The room was not particularly busy at that time to warrant such neglect. Honestly that was the first time I have seen waitstaff leave food on the table with no guests present, and further left the impression that they didnt really care about providing an exceptional experience to match the quality of the food. Perhaps its because they automatically add an 18% gratuity on the bill that may disincentivize staff. I would have gladly tipped more if not for the aforementioned issues. Shame really, as this place has potential to be better.
Very delicious food at mountain.
Couldnt have picked a more delightful place for our first date.
The Observatory has some great sights through the indoor seating area, but there are a limited amount of seats with windows indoors. Be sure to get here early, lock in a spot for a gorgeous site. The food itself is okay, as one may expect. Just enjoy the scenery, and go see the remaining exhibits on the mountain.
Ok
Just want to express that the feel of the restaurant and the service of the restaurant is really good. My biggest issue is that we got raw chicken for my in-laws meals which they ordered chicken for 2. The server took away the chicken promptly and told us that itd be 10 minutes for the chicken. 20 minutes later the chicken still isnt ready, and by the time the chicken has came back were already ready to go, cant really eat by then. The server was great he packed up the chicken for us and we took it home. The issue here is that when we took it home the NEW chicken was still raw. Very disappointed, not sure if well be back nor if well be able to recommend our friends to go.
Had a lovely dinner, with a lovely view. Would recommend.
Our table (Four of us) had the tasting menu with wine pairing. The waiter was unfriendly, un-attentive, and forgot to ask about our meat doneness preference - we had to try five times to get his attention. The kitchen burnt the desert earlier that day, so they substituted the desert, but were too lazy to substitute the desert wine pairing. All wine pairings were excellent, but the desert pairing was atrocious and spoiled what could have been a great dinner (ignoring the service issues). We were forced to pay 18% tip, even though one waiter seemed to want to be anywhere except where he was, and the desert literally left a bad taste in our mouths (really awful pairing). For $600+, I expected much better. On the upside, the food - although somewhat uninspired - was excellent, and another of the wait staff was very pleasant and attentive. There are several, much better, high-end restaurant experiences available in Vancouver, like Bauhaus, Le Crocodile, and Botanist, just to name a few of the better ones off the top of my head.
A coffee with that View is the best gift I could have.
I think that this place is well worth it if you already going to take the gondola up since they give you a free lift with a reservation ($55 value/person), but if not then I don t think I d go out of my way to come eat here. We tried the five course tasting menu and by far the best item was the steak. I wish that was 3 of the courses. I m assuming the views were good but you couldn t really see anything since it was dark and foggy for the night we were up there. Really good experience, don t think I d do it again though.
Your typical big plate, small serving restaurant. BUT, food is delicious and the view is spectacular.
Amazing restaurant located on Grouse Mountain!
It is a very beautiful place without a doubt and very pleasant. I thought it was strange that they only made a reservation for us at a time when everything had to be very busy as the cable car closed.
Its such a wonderful place
