“Best Anniversary Dinner Ever! We celebrated our special night at Kaiseki, a One Michelin Star restaurant, and it exceeded all expectations! Each dish was a masterclass in balance and flavor. Every bite was a harmonious blend of textures and tastes. The service was impeccable - attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly staff made our evening truly unforgettable.
Kaiseki Yu-Zen Hashimoto offers an exquisite dining experience that blends tradition and artistry. The multi-course meal was beautifully presented, with each dish reflecting a deep respect for seasonal ingredients. The flavors were delicate and well-balanced, showcasing the chef's skill and attention to detail. The intimate setting added to the overall experience, making it feel personal and special. While the meal was exceptional, the service, although attentive, could have been slightly more responsive at times. Nevertheless, it was a memorable experience.
I have nothing but positives about this place. Chief and staffs were very kind. One of the best experience my parents and I had. You can experience Japanese tradition in this place. I strongly suggest for your event.
Deposit using credit card required when making reservation ahead of time. Made request for tea ceremony at the end of the meal. Plenty of free parking outside of the restaurant and it’s located next to the Japanese cultural centre. Enjoyed every single detail of the Kaiseki dinner. Some of the raw materials are from Japan. Perfect pairing of food in every course. Washrooms are located outside of the restaurant and my guest got locked out. You can hear the conversations from the next room through the partitions. I appreciated the chef’s hand written calligraphy card with his stamp. The best part of the evening was the short version of the tea ceremony which I got a glimpse of the authentic culture. At the end of the meal you received a complimentary photo taken by the restaurant. Kaiseki dinner was 4 hours including tea ceremony at $1000+ for two people including drinks, pre fixed gratitude and taxes.
Located at the Canadian Japanese Cultural Centre, Kaiseki Yu-Zen Hashimoto is definitely one of Toronto's greatest hidden gem for authentic Kaiseki, a traditional multi-course Japanese dinner made up of dozens of small dishes with different tastes and textures! I am so blessed to have been to Kaiseki Yu-Zen Hashimoto twice in my lifetime ^^ The first time was about 7-8 years ago, and the most recent visit was the past December 2023 for my company Christimas dinner and birthday celebrations. Both experiences were absolutely memorable, and I highly recommend this for all Japanese cuisine lovers! The presentation for food was amazing; each course was like a piece of artwork ^^ Our servers were friendly, courteous, and very gentle with every course. The differences I noticed back then to now: 7-8 years ago: - Only 3 tables, ~$300+ pp - Sat on the ground, tables are much lower - Traditional way of entering a room with food (lots of bowing and kneeling on the floor) ⁃ Matcha tea ceremony at the very end Dec 2023: - More tables/private rooms, also ~$300+ pp - Sat on chairs, tables are more standard height ⁃ Servers walked in regularly ⁃ No matcha tea ceremony
Not only was the food and atmosphere incredible, but the staff were so friendly and hospitable. I enjoyed this kaiseki better than the one I had in Kyoto! The food was so flavorful and delicious, the presentation looked like art, and the private room felt like we were transported to Japan. Kei (the chefs son) came to talk to us after the meal and it was clear our server remembered everything we told her and relayed the message. A truly memorable experience.
The food was amazing. Majority (I’d say all) ingredients are imported from Japan and very well prepared. What’s I like the most is the overall environment which can really make you feel like you are in Japan and experiencing the traditional kaiseiki dish. At the end the son of the owner explained to us their mission of why they open this place as well as recommended places to visit in the GTA if you like Japanese culture. A very good experience overall!
I had such a unique and creative dining experience here. The presentation of each plate was beautiful and food was phenomenal. We were seated in a very private, quiet and cozy room with a large table, which I enjoyed. The staffs were extremely friendly and knowledgeable with every detail of the meal. Highly recommend for a traditional kaiseki experience in Toronto!
Really have to call out how impeccable and incredible the service and experience was. Very zen and peaceful dining experience with the freshest ingredients!
Absolutely fantastic. My wife and I werent sure what to expect but each dish got progressively more impressive. Subtle flavours that were allowed to shine through and excellent presentation. Highly recommend this restaurant. If the food wasnt good enough the service is impeccable. Well be back!
What an amazing dining experience! Every dish was absolutely mind blowing and had that authentic touch!
This restaurant is truly one of a kind, and deserving of its Michelin star, if not more. The food is very exceptional to say the least, and the sake pairing really complemented the food well! Even more so, the service was very good. Our host, Kei was very knowledgable about Kaiseki, Japanese culture and a hospitable presence throughout the entire meal. This is truly a gem of an experience in Toronto, and I highly recommend it!
The menu was so thought out and reminds me alot of japan!
When my wife and I left this restaurant, we have never felt so satisfied about a meal. Truly the food is excellent. However, the food alone is not what makes this place the best. It was the personal touch of Kei Hashimoto. He was our waiter, but by the end of the night our friend. He guided us through the experience bite by bite telling us the history of each course. He also gave insight to the culture and traditions of Japan. We felt like we had entered a portal to the streets of Kyoto. Today I found myself closing my eyes taking a moment to relive the experience again. It is an expensive restaurant, however it is worth every penny we spent.
More than just food but art work.
Very cute little place, which made we feel like I was back in Kyoto Japan. The food was meticulously prepared and it is evident that the chef put in a lot of effort while making the food. I always believe that we eat with our eyes first, and the way the chef plated the food and the dinnerware that the courses were presented on were all very pleasing and appetizing to the eyes. The food also tasted great with some unique dishes (which I will not spoil in the review). The servers were all very polite and attentive, which made the entire dinner feel very cozy and welcoming. However, this place is not cheap, and personally I feel like it is overpriced. If you have a big appetite, you might leave the restaurant hungry, despite paying a few hundred dollars. On top of this, they have a mandatory gratuity of 23%, which is hefty for what its worth. With that said, I do think that if you want to experience a little taste of Japanese fine dining here in Toronto and you are dining out for a special occasion (plus have the budget to do so), then this place is a great experience!
Outstanding food and service!
Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto is always a wonderful experience. The team is warm and welcoming, the ambiance is great, and the food is unparalleled.
What an experience!!! From the moment you are greeted at the entrance to sitting in one of the three private rooms and getting to enjoy the 8 courses of Kaiseki dishes, it s truly a phenomenal experience. Our host Kei, the son of the chef Hashimoto, was so informative and took his time to give us an extensive education about Kaiseki. We ended up staying for nearly 4 hours! My husband and I as newlyweds were gifted this dinner from my mom and dad. We feel so honored to have been able to enjoy this experience - not just for the delicious food, but for the insight into Japanese culture and traditions and how much Kei and his father respect Kaiseki. All in all a wonderful place to dine - go if you want something very unique that will give you a new perspective on the Japanese culture!
The environment and service are really great. Its my first time trying kaiseki cuisine, and its a very nice experience. Its worth trying.
Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto delivers an unparalleled dining experience. Chef Hashimotos masterful creations, coupled with impeccable service and serene ambiance, elevate every visit to an unforgettable culinary journey. Highly recommended for those seeking perfection in Japanese cuisine.
Had a delightful birthday dinner here last weekend. We were sat in a private room with a table for two, and the entire experience was impeccable. The Kaiseki experience from start to finish was extremely wonderful. The host was very welcoming and friendly and everything else - from the decor, the pacing of the meal, to the food itself - absolutely incredible. The dishes were all quite unique and beautifully presented, and were very delicious. More than anything, it was almost like being involved in a show, with the medium being the food. Kei-san came to speak with us after the meal and spent a good amount of time explaining things and answering questions. It made the experience even more memorable. He asked us to reach out if we find ourselves headed to Japan, so that he can connect us with Kaiseki establishments as well as lodging (will definitely take him up on it!). Overall, it was such a wonderful experience and I am very happy to have had the luxury of having partaken in it.
One of the most unique experiences I ve had in Toronto! The hospitality, food, and education of Kaiseki tells a story of passion and dedication to honour traditions. My favourite meal was the fish two ways (picture below). This dish is simple but full of flavour. Looking forward to come back!
Perfection, art and best experience!
Have been to the restaurant 3 times and will be coming again and again! An absolutely outstanding experience, amazing stuff, amazing history, food and atmosphere! Our most cordial THANK YOU!
The eight-course meal ($350 per person) began with an onjyaku-zen (amuse bouche) consisting of three hearty soups designed to warm-up the stomach. Hashimoto s saikyo miso soup wasn t overly salty but rather rich in umami made with white miso, topped with a braised carrot, and a pea-sized amount of mustard to add an expected spice against the broth. Meanwhile, the nutty flavour that burst through the cube of goma (sesame) tofu was incredible, almost bordering bitter if it weren t balanced out by the thick savoury soup. If anything, I could have done without wasabi on the tofu as the sesame taste was already so pungent. Of all three bowls, my favourite was also the simplest and what Hashimoto calls seasoned rice . It s like a thick congee studded with cubes of sweet soft squash and topped with slivers of salty dried kelp (?). The bowl was lovely and comforting and had us wanting another taste of it to end the meal. Paper thin slices of tennen madai (line caught sea bream) was featured in the sashimi course, so delicate that it s like eating flower petals made of fish. Around the plate were three agar jellies flavoured with ginger, carrot, and seaweed, as well as a washer-sized daikon filled with thinly julienned pickled vegetables. It s a much lighter dish following the onjyaku-zen and really showcases the knife skills of Chef Masaki Hashimoto. Diners are asked to refrain from wearing strong scents to ensure they re able to enjoy the sensory experience of the food. The yuzu aroma that escapes from the owan-mono was so refreshing, although at first whiff, it leaves me wondering if a citrusy soup is something I d enjoy. Hashimoto didn t disappoint, balancing the yuzu in a savoury consommé and pairing it with a host of rich flavours: a silky chawanmushi (egg custard), a thick chewy rice cake, and a soft braised daikon. The slice of amadai (tile fish) was cooked perfectly and I loved that the fish s scales were deep fried to form a crunchy garnish on top. The yaki-mono (grilled course) featured a host of ingredients that were in-season during the autumn in Japan. Generally, I only have persimmons raw, yet somehow the fruit tastes so good baked, releasing more of its sweet flavours with chewy pieces of mochi included to soak up some of its juices. The fruit was so inventive that the grilled shima-aji (stripe jack) almost seemed secondary; I found the fish a tad overcooked and in need of a stronger glaze to make it stand out. This is a long review, find the rest on Gastroworld.
Lovely private setting with amazing dishes. The service is perfect and the hostess tended to our requests. I wouldn t recommend bringing young children as it might ruin the atmosphere of other guests there.
Very elegant and gracious service ( although a waitress with a mask describing each item as it is served, is unfortunately barely audible) , but for almost the price as a plane ticket to Japan, the food was a little disappointing. The fish ( I think it was sea bass) used in the sashimi cut razor thin , also showed up in one of the later dishes. Nice that they can use up all of the fish, but not at that price. I know that this is supposed to be delicate and exquisitely presented , and it certainly succeeds on that, a feast for the eyes, and very ingenious ( daikon can be used in many ways) but at the end of the evening there was no memorable dish to savou, and think I would love to have that again that s why it was disappointing
Very unique experience!
Great service. Food is boring taste though
The attention to detail and personal touches were worth the price
Pizza was great
One of the best in the city. Perfect atmosphere to enjoy Chefs masterpieces.
What a delightful experience! My wife and I went, and every dish served was phenomenal from start to finish. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and courteous, explaining the complexities of every course. We felt right at home in a beautiful Japanese setting. Hats off to the front and back of house.
Great experience, family owned. Perfect portions! You get a little bit of everything which leaves you super full.
Truly an experience where you re transported outside of Toronto and into a traditional Kaiseki in Japan. From the moment you walk to the front of the restaurant the cherry blossoms outside the building bloom (as i went in late April. Just as they were blooming). There s a magnificent entrance and walk to your dining room. As for the meal. The flavors slowly build up as the night goes on, each dish adding a bit more complexity than the last. From the food to the impeccable service, it s an experience you will never forget. Amazing memories.
My wife took me here for my 70th birthday, and it was without a doubt, the best birthday and the best meal Ive ever had. Fabulous service, food flavours beyond belief. Expensive, yes...but its not fast food, its Michelin dining. We had our own beautiful room, and felt like we were in Japan. The sake was incredible, the gorgeous food was off the scale. My wife actually teared-up when they served the course with the Japanese crane, carved from a single daikon radish. Incredibly serene and beautiful. After the meal the manager came out and spent time with us, answering our questions, and ensuring everything was perfect, which it was! This was not the kind of meal you have every week. It was a once in a lifetime experience; or perhaps once every ten years. The eight course meal lasted nearly four hours, and was absolutely perfect. Our server treated us so well, I felt like the Emperor of Japan. Perfect food, environment and service!
Most authentic Japanese kaiseki restaurant in Toronto with both food and service at 5 star level.
Went for my boyfriends 20th and it was phenomenal. The service and pace of the meal couldnt have been better and you leave feeling full but not uncomfortable. Food was delicious and a completely new sensory experience, each one was plated exquisitely. Truly a feast for all your senses! Its hard to pick a highlight out of all the course as each and every one had its unique quirks. I look forward to experiencing this in Japan when I get the chance. Thank you to our gracious host, Haruna. She was kind, patient, and extremely informative. And of course thank you to Chef K who went out of his way to greet us at the end of the meal and talk us through the Kaiseki experience. I look forward to coming back and trying their ever changing menu again. Gochisousama deshita!
An absolutely perfect kaiseki experience, I m confident to say this was the best I ve had outside of Japan. From the very beginning, the attention to detail is present. The staff immediately greet you and walk you to your seating area. As you make your way into the restaurant, the decor and ambiance of really pops out. Each decorative piece works as a whole to make you feel like you ve been transported to Kyoto and prepares you for the work of art that is their kaiseki tasting menu. Even the movement of the servers showcased careful poise with no wasted movement, as each dish was placed with such care and love and a respectful bow as they enter and leave the room. They really have mastered the art quite well, as each dish stimulates all five of your senses individually. Each course itself is a work of art in its own right, the textures of each dish work well individually and together, feel like a harmonious symphony that doesn t overpower you. I must give kudos to their house made sesame tofu, the texture of that dish was a personal favourite of mine. Their steamed dish also whetted your appetite as when you uncover it, the balance of the vegetables and red snapper emit a delicate scent that is is a stark contrast with the umami of the mingled broth formed at the bottom. Needless to say, each dish was absolutely delicious and inventive. The chef has not only mastered his art but showcases how well thought out his combinations of seasonal ingredients are. The pairings of each dish and how they prepare them prove it s Michelin status. The only possible way they could have made the experience even more perfect would be to offer a seiza-style seating room with traditional tatami mats. I truly feel like that would make diners feel like they really have been transported to Japan. This has been my absolute favourite Michelin experience in Canada thus far. Kudos to all the staff!
presentation was nice, and it looked like real Japanese Kaiseki, but thats all. The taste is just ordinary, nothing wow. I dont mind to pay for good food, but not just for the presentation. Under expectation and over priced for this quality.
The best kaiseki restaurant in Toronto. The food served is very traditional. My favorite is the whole grilled ayu. If you cant stand the bitter taste, you can ask the chef to cut it into pieces (picture 4), which is very considerate!
What do you get a guy who has everything? An elite birthday dinner at Kaiseki Yu-zen! The experience was exquisite from start to finish. The entire restaurant holds just three tables. Each table is set in a separate and cozy room emulating the traditional tatami feel with western seating. Our server was impeccably professional, friendly, thorough and knowledgeable with every detail of our meal. Each dish was immaculately plated. Id tell you to avoid a spoiler alert by skipping the photos, but your visual and taste experience will change with the meat, seafood and vegetables in season at the time. If you want a fine dining experience like no other, this is the place.
This is a cultural and gastronomic experience. This isn t just about the food well not to me anyways the engagement with staff learning about the kaiseki experience , centuries old , as well as the art work on the plates was phenomenal. I have no idea where 2.5 hrs went. Thank you to you all
Let me preface this by saying that Ive dined at many restaurants across Japan and Canada, including Michelin starred ones and those considered the best by locals. Hashimoto is far and away one of the best dining experiences Ive had - easily among my top 3. The food served throughout the 8 courses transcended what I consider good into out of this world. Everything from details in the presentation to the arrangement of the ingredients on a dish conveys the thoughtfulness of Chef Hashimoto. The flavours come together so beautifully and everything is so well-balanced, which is the hallmark of the best kaiseki experience. Every dish was memorable and distinctive, but my personal favourite was the chef signature, the crane. The use of A5 Miyazaki wagyu and matcha salt was just *chefs kiss*. I was also not expecting to try Ayu sweetfish outside Japan (a summer local delicacy) and the freshness as well as crispiness sent me to another dimension of bliss. The final course with musk melon was out of this world - the sweetness and juiciness of the flesh was incredible! Honestly all the dishes were hits and the only almost-miss on the menu was the fish dish with bones in it. While the flavours were impeccable and the soft bones were edible, the texture was weird and I wish they substituted it for a fish that was easier to eat. It would also be remiss not to mention the service. Haruna was our server and huge compliments to her for making our night very enjoyable with her explanation and hospitality. She went above and beyond in making sure we were well-attended to. We came here to celebrate my birthday and it is the birthday meal I will remember for life. I truly felt I was transported to Japan with the authenticity of the atmosphere, rarity of ingredients used, mastery of cooking techniques and just overall good food. Its pricey but well worth the money for a good occasion.
Kaiseki Yu-Zen Hashimoto was a restaurant I had high expectations for, given its reputation and hefty price tag (around $500 per person after tax and tip). However, my dining experience left me somewhat underwhelmed. I expected much more from this Michelin-starred establishment. On the positive side, the service was impeccable. The staffs attention to detail and hospitality were truly commendable. But when it came to the food, nothing really stood out. I expected to be blown away, and unfortunately, that didnt quite happen. While the presentation of each dish was beautifully executed, I felt like not enough premium ingredients were used to match the high price tag being charged. The flavors, while decent, didnt reach the extraordinary level I anticipated. I was also somewhat disappointed by the overuse of jellied ingredients in some dishes, which seemed to detract from the overall experience. While I dont mind splurging on exceptional dining, Kaiseki Yu-Zen Hashimoto fell short of my expectations. There was way too much emphasis on presentation, which I felt was what you re mainly paying for. Maybe my expectations were too high, but for a restaurant at this price point, I had hoped for a more memorable and exceptional culinary experience .
Absolutely incredible dining experience. Everyone needs to try this restaurant to see what great care they take in everything that goes out of the kitchen. Unforgettable.
The service and experience is 100/10. Thank you for this lovely evening! Food
Japanese cuisine at its finest, very relaxing evening and thought provoking dining experience
Great experience. All the details in each plate are fantastic, and a perfect balance of flavors. Definitely the best japanese experience. And the sake suggested by Kei was amazon!
Fanstastic cozy place with very good food. Just 3 tables there each in a private room. Service was amazing, the japanese artwork made us feel like were in Japan. Much recommended!
This is the best experience and closest to Japan Kaiseki Cuisine in Toronto. Great atmosphere. Close to perfect food. Very friendly staffs. Chef is amazing. Thank you for giving the great memories.
All details perfection great experience with my family.
Amazing experience! When you walk in, youre instantly transported into Japan. The photos dont do it justice at all, Its not very large, however when we were seated we were giving a tour around the restaurant, giving us the illusion that we were deep into the restaurant. Food was delicious and beautiful. Each item is seasoned and marinated perfectly and the service we received from Kei and the rest of the staff was exceptional. The price tag is quite high, but worth every penny. If you are celebrating an event you are gifted with a personalized card in Japanese calligraphy. Thank you again for such an amazing experience.
There were only three sets of guests? Which was nice. Group of three, had good service/food, very accommodating.
Love the New Year Care Box! Truly considerate staff and the restaurant wrote me a Japanese Calligraphy Birthday Card which is so beautiful. Nice takeout experience.
Wow! What an amazing restaurant. I took my girlfriend here for her 30th birthday and it was an incredible experience. Our server Kay (I think) was friendly, warm, and an overall great teacher about Japanese culture. It really felt like we were transported to Japan. I would highly recommend this authentic experience for those interested in Japanese culture. Thank you!
The best Kaiseki restaurant to experience a little cultural escape to Japan during the pandemic. Thanks to the chef and Kei for the delicious food and hospitality. Thank you for the meal
This is perhaps the only place in GTA to experience authentic kaiseki courses. With traditional techniques, the chef is able to elevate dishes by ingenious combinations with fresh and unique ingredients. It is also unprententious and really focused on delivering a hearty dining experience.
I was doubtful when they said it s the best Kaiseki in North America, I m so convinced when I went there for lunch! Everything is so elegantly presented and tasteful, a perfect combination of fine ingredients and umami flavors. The Wagyu rice with yam is so tasty! Def will visit again I m in Toronto area!
Transport yourself to Japan! We had an excellent experience having the most fresh, and authentic Japanese experience right here in Toronto. One of the tastiest things were the eggplants that were literally grown along the Kamo River in Kyoto tasting like pure heaven! Kei and his family were warm and lovely to speak with. They are also super accommodating and made me a meal without any dairy or land animals! Can t wait to go again :)
My daughter took me here for my birthday. We had an amazing evening. Everything was just perfect, the food, the service, the environment, the conversation... We will definitely come back again.
Great dinner with amazing service, details and techniques. Just wish the ingredients could be a bit better for the price point.
Phenomenal is all regards. Almost as if you have traveled to Kyoto but need to remind yourself that youre still in Toronto. Hopefully prices dont go up too much now that it earned a well-deserved michelin star.
My wife and I had a wonderfully endearing experience today. We plan to come again as the menu changes with the seasons.
Absolute perfection from start to finish. The Chef s attention to every detail, the pride in his craft and the flawless execution is something to be admired in every dish. Highly recommend to anyone that has an appreciation of Japanese cuisine and culture.
Such an incredible experience all around. Food was delicious, the presentation was outstanding, beautiful decor, and excellent customer service. Give this restaurant a visit - you will not regret it!
Amazing food, presentation and hospitality. No wonder they got a michelin star. We literally felt like we were in Japan !
I was browsing for a unique dining experiences to take my wife for her birthday. A friend of mine suggest me to check out Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto Restaurant. This is one of the five Japanese restaurant in Toronto that received a Michelin Star. The reviews was very positive, five stars. The entrance is reminiscent of a Japanese garden, with red torii gates and a beautiful water feature. The room feels like you are sitting in a old Japanese house, complete with tatami mats. All the food was beautifully presented, with a focus on autumn flavours, such as persimmon and gingko nuts. The service was similar to a Japanese tea ceremony, with every moment slow and precise. It was very Zen! It was a wonderful experience. We feel like we were transported to Japan. The service was excellent and the dish presentation is unique and amazing! If you enjoy my foodie review add me on instagram @eatsomethingnewwithvictor If you interested in this experience, I would recommand googling what Kaiseki is because this is more about the experience and it not like any omakase.
Definitely well worth the experience. The service was amazing and my server Hana was very friendly. The food is what you expect from a Michelin star restaurant. There were things that I wanted to try out and I got to experience. I highly recommend for all special occasion. For a moment I felt like I was back in Osaka Japan.
We got two take-away bentos and it was excellent.
Exquisite cuisine
Great experience! Great food and service. definitely recommend
Wonderful experience and great food. Highly recommend to people who wants to try Kaiseki without flying to Japan!
Canadas first kaiseki restaurant
Wonderful place. Great food, beautiful presentation, and excellent service. Highly recommended!
Authentic and exquisite Japanese cuisine, each of the course tastes very delicious. Service was extremely excellent. It was an unforgettable and great experience for us. Wish to visit again soon! Highly recommended!
Ive been here twice and the food is always spectacular. Every dish is so well constructed and tastes amazing. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about every dish and answered many questions we had as well. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, I would definitely go back again.
Authentic, delicious and unique experience for all the senses. Kei was a wonderful and knowledgeable host and took the time to present beautifully thought out dishes. Family owned, hidden gem. Experience Japan away from Japan.
A spectacular dining experience I d give 10 stars if I can. The food, drink, and restaurant atmosphere were just perfect in every aspect. My wife and I had the most fulfilling dining experience ever. As soon as we walked into the entrance and down the hall, it s as if we were transported to Japan. We were taken into a gorgeous private room for just the two of us. Every dish was served in perfect timing and order, beautifully presented. All very tasteful and unique. Kei, the assistant manager and the son of the chef, who greeted us from the entrance, was extremely friendly, polite, professional and knowledgeable from the start to finish. Kei makes this restaurant even more special. Every dollar spent was worth it. I can t wait to go back there next time.
We had a truly phenomenal experience at Kaiseki Yu-Zen Hashimoto to celebrate a special occasion with several guests and was blown away on every expectation. The quality of food, mature simplicity - yet wonderful complexity, presentation, attention to detail, private room setting, cleanliness, serene music, and overall experience was second to none. Would come back here in a heartbeat and absolutely recommend this restaurant to all serious diners for an incredible experience. Thank you, Kei & Masaki Hashimoto and the Hashimoto Team for a Beautiful Time. Bravo.
An old Kaiseki store in Toronto, quality control has always been stable
Exceptional savory experience that reminded me of the wonderful tastebud treatment in Japan. Undoubtedly the best we can get when cant travel to Japan anytime soon.
Quite possibly the best Japanese restaurant in Toronto.
Would give it 6 stars if I could. Its more than a restaurant - its an EXPERIENCE. The food is excellent, but its more than food. The ambiance, the attention to details are amazing. Every dish is lovingly chosen and meticulously arranged. One dish had lacy leaf decorations around the plate, and a caped gooseberry on the plate. When you eat the gooseberry, you can see that the outer leaves have a lacey pattern similar to the leaves around the plate. Thats how much thought goes into every detail! We also noticed a small joke: in a lot of dishes there would be a blue detail on my husbands serving, and a matching red one on mine: a napkin, a small plate, a soy sauce dish, border on a tea cup... There was a flow and continuity to the meal, and the conversation with our host was a real pleasure.
Compared with Asian kaiseki cuisine, I feel that the taste and style have improved. It is not the best kaiseki cuisine I have ever eaten. This score will be given to the service. The Japanese service is always very considerate.
Incredible restaurant with remarkable food, definitely the most authentic Japanese establishment in Toronto if not across Canada. The traditional culinary art of Kaiseki is extremely well presented and curated. Highly recommended!
Overly priced. You dont get what you pay for.
Excellent
Hands down the most delightful Japanese dining experience in Toronto. If you re looking for an extra-special takeaway experience while we re all housebound, their care boxes see exquisite.
Absolutely spectacular. Its more than just great food its an experience.
A three-hour trip to Japan. It s really delicious!
I had the best kaiseki meal in Japan, and it was more in line with my taste.
Incredible food experience. Unique, flavourful. Presentation of course, was top notch.
Best service and overall amazing experience
Nice ambience and perfect foods! The staff was very gentle and polite, explained each course in detail, and the overall service was perfection. We were lucky to experience the Japanese traditional tea ceremony after our meal, worth every penny:)
Fresh sushi from Japan daily.
Lovely ... Very slow paced
Great service.
Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto is our best authentic Japanese kaiseki experience ever. Again, simply the best. As with anything best, all the components and parts of our experience were top notch, from the cordial welcome, to the traditional Japanese unique architectural and interior features (such as Shoji, the sliding panel that is made of translucent paper in a wooden frame), to the private dining rooms, to the beautiful, elaborate, extremely light, delicate and highly delectable food featuring the best ingredients, rare and imported from Japan, everything merited highest praise. Even though Hashimoto is quite distant from the central Toronto (it is located in the Flemingdon Park, in the citys North York district), especially for tourists and visitors, the 20-plus minutes drive from the Old Toronto (Uber is about 20 USD one-way) was more than worth it. No words can describe the pure deliciousness of the food. Some of the items, such as Tachiuo (silver belt sh) or Shizuoka musk melon are not widely served even in the best Japanese restaurants outside the country of the origin. Hashimoto has been promulgating the traditional Japanese cuisine (and not its all-you-can-eat-sushi American/international transformation of the former) for about 20 years now, long before kaiseki and omakase became next trend in the big cities all over the world. To be honest, the prices are kind of steep. Kaiseki lunch is priced at $200 per person (drinks, tax and gratuity not included), whereas kaiseki dinner sells for $300 per person (drinks, tax and gratuity not included). This is almost 40% more expensive than a high-class Michelin star Hirohisa in NYC, but on par with many other expensive Japanese restaurants. But, again, our 436 USD check for a party of 2, including tips but excluding alcohol was a right price tag for the unique experience, totally one of a kind. Reservations required, as well as a credit card for a deposit. Please allow 2 hours for your lunch experience. The restaurants cancellation policy could be viewed on Hashimotos website. 6 stars out of 5.
A unique cultural and culinary experience
My husband and I dined at Kaiseki Yu-zen Hashimoto in December, 2018, and thoroughly enjoyed the unique experience of dining on exquisitely prepared, authentic Japanese dishes outside Japan. The private dining room and the attentive service further enhanced our enjoyment. We opted for the five-course dinner menu at lunch time in order not to miss out on anything. In hindsight, the three-course lunch menu may have sufficed as the five-course dinner menu consisted of three fish dishes, which, though all equally tasty, seemed a bit redundant.
Whole place to ourselves!! 5/5
If you want the best version of Japanese food in Toronto (and culture, because the food and culture are closely related), this is the place for you! Every dish served has its own stories that comes from the chefs detail oriented and skillfull ingredient selection and cooking skills. In addition, Keis explanation adds an invaluable experience that is unique to this place.
An incredible culinary journey. The flavours, textures and presentation are outstanding. Our experience at Yu-zen Hashimoto was reminiscent of Japan.
The most authentic Japanese restaurant in town. And the service is not only great but the most graceful. Japanese hospitality is an art itself.
Unbelievable experience! Very unique. Amazing customer service. We felt like royalty. Very elegant. Beautiful atmosphere . The food was extraordinary. The highest quality. Everything just melted in your mouth, unbelievable flavour. Everything was extremely fresh. The presentation and the attention to details was amazing. The tea ceremony was very informative. Highly recommended.
What an experience! Amazing food, amazing presentation and amazing service.Thank you for a great evening. Absolutely worth the price.
Amazing traditional janpanese food. I love it so much. Highly recommend
Food are so good! It was my birthday and the chief even wrote a birthday card for me! It is really good for couples and people like to experience real Japanese cuisine.
Had such a great first time experience with kaiseki and enjoyed all the food. Kei gave an in-depth explanation of the complimentary tea ceremony and I learned so much about matcha that I didnt know before. A really unique and special place to dine in Toronto.
Amazing food, amazing service, amazing atmosphere.
Very different from the numerous Kaiseki that I had experienced in Japan.
Expensive yet worth it. A must try for Japanese food fans.
I should start by mentioning that I go to fine dining establishments on a weekly basis and have been to most of the best restaurants not only in toronto but many other parts of the world. I do not leave reviews for restaurants as I m a very busy person but not reviewing this unreal restaurant would be an injustice to the people that work there. Last night my wife and I had the most amazing dining experience. From the atmosphere, to the depths of each course, the perfect service and the final Japanese tea ceremony. I truly felt like a guest on the ever popular netflix series @chefstablenetflix. thank you to the super welcoming, uber talented father & son team @kaiseki_hashimoto
Excellent service and atmosphere food is great well explained.
This kaiseki restaurant is not inferior to any kaiseki restaurant I have tried in Shanghai and Osaka before. The Hashimoto family thoughtfully wrote a birthday card in hand. I was flattered. Highly recommended! I pick this restaurant as my birthday dinning, it s a really impressive experience for this night. Compare the other Kasike I ve been tried in Shanghai and Osaka , Hashimoto restaurant is even one-up! Strong recommend the sake by Okunomatsu, It s one of the best sake I have been tried before.
A marvelous and illuminating experience. Truly something for all the senses.
Best Restaurant Everrrrr Had the best lunch Ive ever had in my life.

Absolutely amazing food and service and experience. At hashimotos i felt i was transported back to my time in japan. Very reminiscent food and service and experience of many of the michelin 3 stars in tokyo.
Great authentic kaiseki dishes! But the portion was very very small... i wasnt really full.great quality dishes from Japan but not sure its really worth for $300 meal /person.
Wonderful experience! The food is a delight for the senses. For tasting menus, I often run into one or two dishes that dont quite work for me, but I was enthralled by every single dish here tonight. The tea ceremony was quite educational. Very memorable!
A hidden gem, this place was as Japanese as you can find here.
Great cultural and educational experience
Absolutely incredible dining experience. The food was wonderful. Exquisitely prepared. The service was second to none - explaining what each dish was and pleasantly answering any of our questions.
Amazing authentic Japanese Kaiseki dining experience. If youre not able to visit Japan but want the culinary delights, ingredients and textures of traditional Japanese cooking then youve got to try chef Hashimotos restaurant. During our visit we had the opportunity to try the summer season dishes over eight courses. The atmosphere is intimate, warm and cozy, with the decor resembling a traditional Japanese Inn. The restaurant is family run and everyone is very hospitable and polite. Expect a minimum of 2 hours of dining and lots of conversation with the hosts and with anyone you bring. Highly recommended for special events and entertaining small group.
Beautiful place, great good, friendly host.
You cant ask for anything better in town. Excellent service with excellent food and atmosphere.
Unique Japanese cultural food experience. Be prepared to spend a lot of time. Our lunch took 2.5 hours. But it was time well spent. Need to make reservations well ahead of time. Very nice service. Food prepared exceptionally well and detailed. Its not just a food experience. Its about the senses and the culture. Pricey, yes. But worth it.
Memorable experience
Awesome culture and food
Booked a week in advance. We got shown to our table in a private room, spacious and well decorated. The presentation of the food was very artistically done, from the dish to the decorations to the food itself. High quality ingredients, many of them shipped fresh from Japan. A good variety of cooking styles from steaming to frying to sashimi. Subtle flavouring brings out the taste of the food itself. We also saw a tea ceremony, and the chef came out to take pictures for us. Awesome experience.
High end restaurant. Very expensive but unforgettable experience. It is something unusual.
Prepare your wallet before you come, Food is excellent, tea is great and dessert is awesome
A family-run restaurant providing the most exquisite dining experience youll find, possibly in Canada. They serve 6-8 people at most (typically 3 tables) for meal time. The food is fresh and unique, beautifully presented, and with terrific service. The ambiance is a wonderful zen-like Japanese experience with nice music in the background. For special occasions (we went for Valentines), this is more than a meal, rather a true dining experience that you wont soon forget.
Excellent service
Best meal of my life. Everything is extremely delicate and pretty. Requires reservation 1 week in advance. No photos with camera, phone photos only.
