1027 Steeles Ave W, North York, ON M2R 2T1, Canada
Long-time spot with an old-school vibe serving European-style bagels, plus challah & pastries.
I recently went to Kiva’s Bakery on Steeles and the food was delicious! I had the egg, onion and lox and a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. I had no idea what lox was but my friend told me it’s salmon. The dish itself was perfectly blended…the onions and lox added so much flavour. Normally I’m wary of ordering orange juice at a restaurant as I sometimes find the juice goes down scratching my throat (does that make sense?!) but here, it was soooo good! Especially good if you like lots of pulp! It was so good that I bought a bottle for home! I don’t know why I don’t go here more often to eat (after all, it is just across the street from me!) but I will be back.
I bought four bagels yesterday and when I got home I realized they charged us five bagels. I was pretty upset because this is my first time coming here and I can't believe the y were sneaky. I just want to warn other people to be careful with what they charge. So, I was like whatever I don't want to go back to argue about this. I thought the taste of their bagel would at least "saves" what has happened. Unfortunately, the bagel was a let down. The bagel shell was hard to chew on and the texture of the bagel tasted like it was made a week ago. Okay, well then you can have my extra 1.35 and you also lost a customer.
I’m not leaving this post to offend anyone anyone in particular I mean for the most part, what’s not to love about a Jewish deli run by pillipeeno’s lol that being said I used to have good memories of this place took my family here to go and support the business. Haven’t been here in years, we took a few bites and walked right out the door. Terrible service. The waitress said she was gonna make us a fresh pot of coffee. Absolutely did not do that. Brought us burnt stale coffee. That’s been sitting there since the morning I give you my word I’m not picky about coffee. nor is my mom but we Were disgusted asked for well done fries this photo is what I took. They literally gave us the fries, the potatoes I mean that we’re sitting in the bottom of the fryer for the last three months soggy black. disgusting. The soft scrambled eggs I would give a 7 maybe an eight out of 10 that was OK obviously that was made a la minute. And if I can add one more thing, I’m shocked that people would pay almost $10 for a bagel with cream cheese. Insane absolutely insane. The bagels were great though but for a small bagel with a little bit of cream cheese no way that is insane $10 so disappointed not to mention being lied to, to say to lie to my mother to say that she was going to make a fresh pot of coffee and absolutely did not do that. She didn’t make her way to the coffee machine and fill it up and the water running none of that she literally brought 2 cups of coffee 10 seconds later impossible to have made a pot that quickly, and it was disgusting and burnt just like the potatoes. Our food was terrible. We literally took a few bites and walked out the door refused to pay terrible terrible terrible service terrible food.
Went for lunch with my friend on a weekday and wow cant find any young people here😂 we were the only young ones here and felt like we dont belong there lolllll Service is super super fast. Israeli salad was too salty for us but the bagel and cream cheese was excellent. Fresh grapefruit juice was good too🩷
A classic local staple with a great eggs Benny. Kiva’s still holds its traditional atmosphere and welcoming service that they’re known for. No matter what you order, be sure to get one of their famous bagels.
Came here for the all day breakfast meal, left very satisfied with the quality of breakfast served here, along with the cheerful owner and staff that just impacts your day positively. Me and my buddy arrived late at around 3pm when the restaurant section was already closed, yet the team was more than happy to accommodate by serving us food from the restaurant menu while we sat in the bakery section. I got the Eggs Benedict on a sesame bagel with spinach and lox (smoked salmon) on it while my buddy got the California breakfast set that came with a toasted bagel, fresh cream cheese, avocado slices, tomato slices and scrambled eggs. You definitely cannot go wrong with the fresh hand rolled bagels here. Furthermore, the fresh cream cheese was the crowning glory of my buddy’s breakfast set. I loved the Eggs Benedict, although the lox was a bit on the saltier side as opposed to what a plain smoked salmon would be. However, the portions of salmon provided were generous. I also got the Israeli salad with my breakfast set which I was impressed by how well seasoned it was, along with its generous portion size, freshness of the vegetables used, along with the variety that offered not just a soothing crunch but a cooling feel to the summer heat. Their refillable coffee is on the stronger side, something which I appreciate, especially when paired with their toasted bagels. I am looking forward to be a regular patron of Kiva’s bagels for not only their healthy spread of delicious food at market prices but also for their warmth hospitality by the staff and owner here.
One of my favourite cozy brunch places. It’s very local and always busy. The owner, Steve, is such a lovely guy. They also have a bakery, so you can eat and get your bagels to go as well. My favourite food here is omelette 😋 it’s usually very fresh and simple. Highly recommended.
Where do I begin? This place has been a round for a while! I remember when I was a kid and I used to come here with my mother. This place was fantastic then and it still fantastic today! Great atmosphere and attention even when they’re packed. The food is great! The matzah ball soup it just like mom used to make and the different fish spreads with bagel are an amazing combination of flavours
This is a go to delicatessen at Bathurt and Steels. I have been there many times.
Saw employee not wash hands after going to the washroom.
Very good Danish
Met an old friend for breakfast who introduced us to Kivas. It was excellent as usual. Would highly recommend this gem of a place to everyone.
Kiva s catered a baby naming ceremony for us recently. Every aspect of the process from initial contact to fulfilment was way beyond expectations. Steve and his very competent staff contributed to and was a major factor in making our simcha of 100+ guests wildly successful!
An oldie but a goodie...
Didnt eat in for a meal. Bought bagels and rugula to take home. Finally found the best bagels in the city. Plump, dense, a little chewy. Just the way I like a bagel. The rugula was yummy too.
Was treated like pure garbage with the waitresses. Wouldn t get me more coffee. Ask the other waitress to get me a coffee and she said I ve got my own Food
Tasty bagels, good service, fantastic cream cheese. I love the pickup window.
Bagels are so much more dry than they used to be. They used to be soft, chewy and delicious but they re just not the same quality
I love this place and I always have! It gets better every year! Good food, good service, good atmosphere! I come in with my service dog and theyre always good to me and polite. The owner walked around to make sure everything is always perfect!
Delicious food.
Would return just for the hospitality alone. It was our first time at Kiva s. It was quite busy but our amazing server Linda was patient, friendly and attentive. She took time to explain all the options and gave us good recommendations! Seems like a spot with a lot of regulars. We will be coming back!
Always awesome at Kivas. Great Jewish food!
Amazing place for Brunch. Excellent service.and quality.
Best bagels in Toronto
I meet my family here for lunch about once a week. The service is always friendly, fast and excellent as is the food.
There is no meat in this Jewish restaurant, so be aware of that.
My home away from home. Love the food, the staff and good ol Steve and his brother. Miss their mom. Our family has been going there for 30+ years and love it.
Food is fresh Service is great Food
We found it super crowded so dont go hungry :) there can be quite a wait. Staff was amazing so I can see why ppl keep coming back. Food was average but i loved that nothing had really been updated. decor is old which kept it authentic to me. Favourite part was the staff. Noticed they were friendly to all the tables. Always a little something to say. The later you come, the more items are gone. Would come again
Every day in the morning visit the place for to drink a coffe, I love the Regular coffe here.
so good you have to try it and thats a fact!
I feel the staff treat you as a family. Very friendly and always smiling. Steven is an amazing owner. Always friendly and welcoming. At times it gets very busy but they always try to please you and make you feel nice.
Solid selection of breakfast and lunch items. Very fast service with friendly staff. Very good drip coffee
This place is a local gem. Authenticity in food and hospitality. Absolutely loved the fresh food, coffee and the bakery items. Do visit for an uplifting dining experience. Food : 5/5
It used to be a much better place to eat, but the waitress s behavior was extremely rude and inappropriate.
Haven t tried the other foods here but the bagels we bought over the weekend were sooo bad. You re better off getting from supermarket. We love going to happy bakery instead.
The atmosphere of limegreen paint and dirty surfaces leaves much to be desired. The food is severely overpriced for quality and portion. Some menu items were unavailable, including a daily special which was still written on the sign board. Most offensively was the gentleman who guilt tripped me for not enjoying my meal. The bagel was good.
Best Matza ball soup in town -always fresh ! Vegetarian options: Kosher :) Parking: Lots ! Kid-friendliness: What kid doesn t love a bagel ! Wheelchair accessibility: Easy access to being my mother in law
Been coming here for almost 25 years, which that alone should tell you something. Amazing family run business. Owners are present all day every day. Food is always on point with quick service as one would expect. Well done Kivas! Here s to the next 25!
Bagels etc, my familys favorite bakery. Eggs cooked perfectly. Try the bubka !
Homestyle bakery and restaurant with a long history. My family has been going here for years and the service is amazing. They go above and beyond for all their regulars.
Good and Plentiful portions.. Steps and Bathroom have been under renovation for a very very long time!
Outstanding!! Just picked up a dairy platter for ten I think it could have fed 15 the added sweet platter was a great bonus and the bagels were all cut ! Well done Kivas!!
A bonfire breakfast institution. Your parents ate there and so did you. So do I. The bagels are bomb and that coffee is rocket fuel. Literally. If only they d cool my eggs well done like I ve asked. I do ask. I ve had breakfast here dozens of times and my return is guaranteed, too. One day .one day those eggs that I ve requested to be well done will be well done and then instead of 4 stars this rating will be shifted to 5. Meanwhile, eat here. Love life. This is the way.
Fantastic baked sweets and breads. Authentic taste and quality. Best Hand made Bagel in town!
Great food, amazing service
Great food and service, cozy deli atmosphere. If youre looking for a great bagel, this is the place.
Not as good as it used to be. Bagels are underbaked to my taste. Portions are very large. Had blintzes and latkes. Both were okay but neither was better than homemade. Lots on new items on the menu.
Great coffee and service
Good is always delicious. Prices are a bit higher than others but the atmosphere and quality justifies the difference. An Icon in the community
I have been eating the same thing for breakfast for the last few years a tuna scoop with a bagel and tomato slices. I usually go to bagel world becuse its closer. The other day I went back to kivas and the first thing I noticed was the bagel was amazing a huge difference in the quality of taste in the bagel. Its hard to explain but it was crispy the outer part had a flavor and crunch that was instantly noticeable.
Fresh, it s not heavy . Delicious !
Always friendly and great food. You never know who youll see there
Was unaware that there was no meat served with breakfast, but since I was already seated I was a big girl and ate a vegetarian meal
Very good food
Always great food and service
Great food and desserts
Great food. Excellent service.
$15 for cream cheese inflation on inflation Used to be my go-to place now its my stay away from place
Always a favourite stop for fresh twister bagels!
The food is average. The ambiance is mediocre. Serves a very specific demographic made up of almost entirely old Jews.
Firendly staff, delicious food. Thank you.
Very friendly and helpful staff and the food is fresh and delicious, reasonable price for breakfast and my bagel was fresh and tasty. I have my new spot for breakfast on the way home from work.
Fantastic
My go to bagel place when I am in town
Love their bagel & bread
Always helpful. Also have great cream cheese and tuna
Eggs Benny and lox is a must-have anytime I come to town. Always take home a chocolate babka, so good.
Service was great and bagel and coffee too.
Always enjoyable
I went here for Saturday breakfast. Since it s near to senior living, the place was mostly full of senior folks and it instantly made me happy with lots of hustle bustle. The place has a takeout bakery with bagels, cream cheese and other spreads, cakes, cookies, juice and what not. Along with that, it also has a restaurant where you can sit down to enjoy your meal. The unique thing here is it has breakfast options come with bagel as a carb instead of a toast. I absolutely loved the bagels here and the cream cheese was too light. Took the one with chives in it for a kick. We ordered Shakshouka along with juice and coffee. While Shakshouka wasn t great, everything else was top notch. Maybe it was just a wrong choice among the other options. I am still marking this place as a favourite and would love to come back to explore other options. The service was great, owner was attentive and helping his folks out. Very happy and well-lit place.
Amazing food & customer service
I ve been coming here for years. It s my favourite Bagel restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly and pleasant.
Very noisy, but good food!
Always amazing food and a friendly atmosphere. Try to go early on Sundays as it gets busy by arounsbl 10am.
A bit on the expensive side. But the staff are nice.
Good dairy food great service great place 2 meet friends and have lunch good breakfast great service staff and owners vary good to deal with
The place was quite busy on a Sunday morning brunch time. I had high expections when I saw the crowd. We got bagels, shaksuka, grilled cheese fries, granola and yogurt. Their name suggested like bagel would be great but unfortunately it was dry ,hard and below average. Shaksuka was ok but it didnt go well with bagel at all. Fries was disaster. Lowest quality fries. I love fries but I couldnt eat them at all. We had fresh orange juice and that was amazing.. fresh indeed. Anything else I wouldnt come back for it
Good place to get some sugar free cookies.
We had take-out breakfast there and the sandwishes were delicious! The service was great - very sweet and thoughtful. I will definitely come back here. :)
Huge kudos to the Linda and Andrea team for their exceptional service. Would give them 10 stars if I could
Traditional deli with a neighborhood charm. It was a little pricey but definitely worth it for the atmosphere
Gary, I could not have said it better myself!! Todd S.
First time trying it and it was good. I had the salmon and lox and it was pretty good. I bought six bagels and found them to be very dense but perhaps people like that. I had an onion bun and that was pretty good. I ordered a salmon cake and it was a big portion which lasted me two days and three sandwiches worth. I d say it needed more seasoning though but I made sure to add more to it.
Love their salads!!!
Highly recommend for a great breakfast spot; Greek salade, 3 scoop platter and bagels
Missed this place. Yummy! Ty Bruno
Awesome first experience! Thanks to Steve and Ill be coming back definitely!
The babka French toast is absolutely out of this world
Great food and a bit pricey but overall good stuff
Always consistently good
Great bagels and cream cheese! Sufganiyots were great as well!
Ive been going to Kivas, for many, many years now. It is always, super fresh and super delish! My favourite, is their poppy seed bagel, with lox, cream cheese and chives! Always with a , of course! I always get a family feel, everytime that I walk in! I always feel, very comfortable and at home, when Im there! Steve, you have such wonderful staff! Whenever Im in the area, this is always my go to bagel place! Great job, everyone! Ill see you all soon, when Im in the area again!
They have mini challah!!! Everything tasted wonderful and the staff was super friendly. It was my first time visiting but definitely won t be my last. I live downtown but would definitely make the long trip up there for the food.
One of the best breakfast places in Toronto. Good food with excellent service
Tasty fresh food. Friendly owners.
I like the old-fashioned atmosphere.
Great food and excellent service
Yummy
Best bagels in town!
We were served the freshest bagels and the crispest veggies faster than we could blink. Service was very friendly and the egg salad was perfect. I ll be back!
Let me start a one is generous I will say their bagels are amazing and would rate a 4 but their desserts are dreck butter tarts dreck, cookies blah, brownie tasteless and whatever else we had was soon to be raccoon food even they likely turned up their nose at it
Loved Kias. A group of friends went for lunch and had a great time. Clearly a local hang out. Waitress was incredibly patient with us and we all enjoyed our various lunch salads. Im definitely go again.
I visited Kiva s for the first time yesterday. I can t even believe how fresh the bagels and cream cheese were! I can t see myself buying from the grocery anymore. So much healthier here. The customer service was so friendly and they even gave me a free.... (I can t remember the name) because it was my first visit. How kind. Thank you Kiva s!! I ll definitely be returning.
Love it
Good food and very friendly and great hangout
Best bagels in GTA. Great staff. If anywhere near the area we pickup a dozen and freeze them.
Just finished a fantastic brunch with my family. It was super busy but service was warm, familiar, & caring. Son enjoyed a nice grilled cheese, husband had lox & cream cheese, and I had super delicious shakshuka!!! So good. Here s a picture of my empty bowl. Sweet, spicy, perfect.
went for breakfast. really good food
Excellent bakery products. Authentic Challah, Old Fashion Rye Bread, Bubka. Sugar free products are excellent. Great customer service
Staff was super friendly, store had a great atmosphere. If youre looking for a cheap but delicious breakfast, I cant think of a better place in a 10 mile radius
Cute cafe. For breakfast. Excellent service
Popular. Great service. Reasonable price
We got the lox on bagel Fresh smoked salmon, cream cheese and vegetables Good value for money
Perfect bakery everything is fantastic
When we first walked, we were greeted by the sweet and savoury aromas that permeated the establishment. Then we were greeted by Steve, the owner. He was awesome. Treated us exceptionally well and gave us a succinct kiva s history lesson. Staff was lovely, complimented us, and had a pleasant conversation with us. Go here for all of your bakery and pastry needs. Bon appétit!
The VERY BEST raspberry rugelach anywhere!!!!
Best bagels in town, great customers, customer service and quality products and catering and free home delivery
Always passed by here but it was closed everytime, today i had to pick up some stuff in the plaza and saw that it was open. Went in and was a little lost...one of the guy at the cashier was super nice (i think he was the owner), I told him it was my first time; i ended up geting the smoked Salmon & Avocado club with fries to go and he threw in a free Danish!!!. Food was great, i didnt expect much from the fries but it suprisingly good; will come back here for sure!
Lots of variety!
I happen to find this place today and was impressed with the service and the quality of food. The coffee I found a bit too strong for my liking but my bagel and cream cheese came with a hefty portion of it and lots of veggies to go on top. I had something simple but looking around they seemed to have a variety of options. Ill definitely be back here and plan to bring my family!
Breakfast was just okay, home fries are dry and tasteless. Was turn between 2 stars and 3... Trying to be generous.
Stoped by and was delighted to find this duet....seems its every Thursday morning. Great food, great music and a load of fun.
I ve passed by this place for decades and not stopped in. Today I decided to pop in. You walk in through a deli and then restaurant. I sat at the coffee bar and had the Shakshouka with a bagel. It was very good however definetly had some spice mostly garlic onion and I think bay leaf. I enjoyed it. Had every last drop. For $15 with with the bagel I thought it was good value. I was sort of worried about wandering into a retirement home diner but there are all slices of life here. A lot of regulars, which I think proves this establishment
Thank you Kivas café and all staff! for tasty food, warm welcoming and hospitality!!! For sure I would recommend this place to celebrate small family or business occasions!!!
We were seated promptly. Great food. Excellent service. Sweet potato fries were too well done. They were quickly replaced with a fresh order along with a free cheese bun for dessert!
The best Twister in the city!
My favourite breakfast /lunch spot! Great staff, great Greek salad wonderful bagels/twisters. Come hungry leave full with a smile on your face. A special shout out to Steve who runs the place and the bussing team who keep the place ready for the next customer.
Got a bagel, cream cheese, and lox. The bagel lacks a sweetness that I prefer from places like Gryfes. It was decent though and the cream cheese and lox is delicious. The garlic part of this everything bagel could be more pronounced. Their eggplant parmesan is a fantastic value. Very dense, chock full of eggplant, but I found the cheese to have a weird taste. Tasted very processed. Still a good deal though given the amount and overall good taste. The service is excellent.
For my birthday I had breakfast with friends in Kiva. Good start for a birthday! We enjoyed it
Yesterdays bagels at regular price and diluted coffee. Never again.
Bagel the good you pay for what you get
The young lady who took my order for my toasted veggie poppy seed bagel pleasantly smiled, which showed through her mask. They didnt skimp on anything- thick cream cheese, thick slices of cucumber and tomato. Simple but great. I was eyeing the housemade packaged mac n cheese, babkas, guava jam and Toblerone cookies...for next time!
Friendly staff, great bagels!
Best bagels& fresh cream cheese in all of Toronto
Good food pleasant staff
Great bagels, cream cheeae and good food - when open.
Pricier than the competition.
Best bagels
Bagels,cream cheese,blintzes all yummy.
Fresh bagels baked daily. Menu is full and has great selection. A lot of different baked goods too. Price might be a little higher, but the quality is worth the charge.
Good food.
Nice folks. Very helpful. Will plan to visit more once the dining area opens up again.
Danishes are amazing. Bagels delish. Great bakery!
Delicious food, fabulous customer service, best price and best freshly baked bagels in town. I highly recommend a visit.
Tried there fresh juice, Strawberry Apple...
A staple in the city. Great bagels and catering. And love the regulars that come very morning. But the coffee could use some work. ;)
Yummy bagels.
Great prices and service. Fresh and social distancing rules.
My last visit, prior to today, was January 17, 2000. 20+ years ago. Why did I wait so long to come back? The food is as good today as it was back then. Had the one scoop cream cheese on a side plate with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, white onion and a toasted bagel. $6.
Classic Jewish style restaurant. Bagels and baked goods a particular strength.
Awesome eggs Benny on latkes!
Best bagels in Toronto...best customer service..super friendly staff
Bagels are delicious! But come early because it gets busy very quick!
Thanks to Covid its a pale version of itself. Hope they can come back to their former glory. Used to be the best twisters.
While they do carry gluten free bagels, What A Bagel has tastier ones, or I prefer ODoughs. Service was not the best at the take out counter, and Im shocked that two bagels with cream cheese cost $20! I dont mind paying an upcharge for gluten free, but one was regular pumpernickel. I feel like for $10 you should get at least a piece of lox, not just cream cheese for a to go toasted bagel. Better to just buy a dozen and toast them at home.
Great spot for breakfast or lunch. Tons of options, decent prices, fast service and good portions. Would definitely recommend.
Great breakfast place I usually go for the eggs onions and lox scrambled egg with a Flat sesame bagel which is always great. This time had an everything bagel with lox and cream cheese and their bottomless coffee. Unfortunately the waiter poured us one cup of coffee served us our meal and 2 minutes later presented the bill before we could bite into our bagel. She then disappeared. The owner came around to refill our coffee which was appreciated. Food was still good and will be back
This place is awesome!!! Great customer service and delicious food!!!!!!!!! They also serve decaf coffee Thanks a lot, Karen! We will be back for sure! Chen and HJ
Great bagels and service. Delicous
Always fresh, always busy always worth it!
Amazing food, service and commitment to freshness. I would highly recommend Kivas Bagel
Great service Great bagels
Family owned restaurant since 1979. Bagels are handrolled and everything is baked on site.
