Chinese Restaurant
Great foods and service. Be sure to order their specialty dish - duck with taro, super yummy 😋 (need to order this dish one day in advance)
It's been a long time since I have had a peking duck. It is hard to measure, but this spot gives you great value for an excellent and tasty duck. Service is quite excellent for a more upscale Chinese dining experience. The duck was not dry, moist, skin very crispy and seasoning on point. The innards with lettuce cups were so nostalgic. I really enjoyed eating duck here, I would certainly like to try other items in the future.
Ordered lunch special, which consisted of 2 lobsters with noodles, lobster duo, and Peking duck. Lobster was fresh and cooked to perfection. Combined with the noodles made, it tasted delicious. The Peking duck was a bit too oily for me, but it came with a flour paste, sauce, cucumber, and sprouts drowning the oil. I was very happy with the food and will try it again on my next visit to Canada 🇨🇦.
Came for lunch, found this restaurant pretty average in the inside, beside a medical building and life labs. The food is authentic and delicious, but quite oily and fill of MSG. The fried rice was a bit hard. We liked the general tao chicken which was lightly crispy. The beef with mushroom had lots of flavour too. Dim sum was a bit subpar and seemed microwaved. The restaurant also had a few dirty dishes but service was great. Prices were a bit higher too. Also found out the Jason Momoa was there before!?!
One of the best Chinese food I’ve had. Inside restaurant is really beautiful and spacious. Food was really good. The best one was spicy squid that I’ve never had such a good and tasty squid. I highly recommend it.
The Peking duck with lettuce wrap as they are know for it, highly recommend it. The garlic snow pea leaves were flavorful, and the stir-fried beef tenderloin with cashew and honey pepper sauce was delightful. The deep-fried crispy chicken was perfectly cooked, and the steamed sea bass was incredibly fresh. The jumbo scallops with mushroom and lotus root is good with jumbo scallops as advertised, and the oysters with green onion and ginger were also good. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the variety and flavors of the dishes. Overall Food 9/10 Service 8/10
The pekking duck was tasty - I loved the thin wrapper and the fatty duck slices. Just as other reviewers mentioned, it is quite pricey for what you get imo. We also got duck fried rice, chicken and black bean sauce, and snow pea leaves, all of which were good but nothing super crazy. Overall, I think this is a solid Chinese place 🙌🏼
Peking duck was exceptional. It was well seasoned, had minimal fat and perfect crispy skin, giving it a delectable texture. Definitely come for the Peking duck as that's what they are best known for. Beef Tender Caton Style ($22.80) was surprisingly delicious. I wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. It was undeniably succulent, tender and soft. Price varies for the Green Bass fish, depending on season. I wouldn't recommend it as it cost $56 for a fish. Overall, great experience and fantastic food for a high price.
The food is pretty good, Cantonese food. Is it because there are so few Chinese restaurants around? The price is on the high side.
Highly recommend the roast duck, the skin is thin and crispy, the duck meat is tender and juicy, and it tastes very authentic when paired with the sauce and scallion pancake crust. I will try it again.
Fast and pretty
Good Chinese food. The roasted duck is nice.
The taste is ok, but the duck is expensive and not worth it.
The pecking duck is very good! and the wrap is thin soft and warm also! Service is very welcoming ! Highly recommend!
Peking duck very good as were side dishes. Will return again to try other dishes. White tablecloths were a nice touch. Service excellent
A great hidden gem! Delicious food and good service. Lots of space for larger gatherings. Parking: Depending on the time of day, it could get busy and you have to park around the building. Kid-friendliness: High chairs are available; however, please note that there are no juice options for kids. Only pop, water or tea options.
Nice Peking Duck. The staff was friendly and interior was nice.Parking lot was not enough.
The food is amazing. More delicate vs standard Chinese restaurants, yet still flavourful and just wow. I can t stop thinking about it.
According to the good review towards this restaurant we went for dining this Monday with friends visiting us from Hong Kong. We ordered stir-fired pea shoots with garlic, 5 lbs ginger green onion lobster, one order second course of peaking duck, fried EFu noodle with mushroom and fish jelly. The pea shoots were old and tasteless, lobster didn t fry with enough heat and over cooked, peaking duck served in low warm, EFunoodle is terribly cooked! not enough seasoning, noodles were over softened. Lastly, they served free desert. Named green beans desert, but they all watery, none of us dare to try it! It s one of the terrible dining experience we ever had. It s the worst restaurant and the worst chef we ever tried. With the over priced menu and the quality of the food, it s unacceptable and we feel very sorry for them!
Amazing food! The Peking duck was unbelievable. So glad my friend suggested this place.
This place is no longer worth it. The food quality keeps going down while prices go up, there are much better options out there. The service here is very unfriendly especially if you re not Chinese. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.
there are better Chinese food places around. I ordered the Peking duck and this is the first time I ve ever been to a place that I asked for more sauce for the Peking duck and the server said it s an extra $2. more cucumbers it s another $2. afterwards I was on my phone still eating and the waitress comes up to me and goes are you done? I was taken a back as this has never happened to me anywhere but I didn t even wanna stay in the restaurant anymore. I said sure, give me a box so I can pack my food server goes ok I ll bring you dessert. 2 minutes later another server comes and says oh, no dessert today and just gave me 2 fortune cookies and my bill. Mind you this is at 9:30pm the restaurant was not busy and had empty tables around. needless to say this will be my first and last time here.
Went to have roast duck here and got asked by the male server why I wasn t leaving a tip. The portion was so small, it looked more like half a duck even though I ordered a whole one. When I tried to ask if it was really a full duck, no one could be found. The whole time they only brought the food out and never even refilled my water. Then he had the nerve to tell me that in Toronto, you re expected to leave at least a 15% tip! This is the reply for the comment Oh, right, you came a total of four times once to take my order, once to bring the food, once to clear the plates, and finally to take my payment because I only ordered two dishes. Silly me for trying to get service during the meal. I should ve just handed over all my money and bowed down to you three times. My bad, I ll never bother you by coming here again.
Portions are small, food isnt fresh, flavour is inconsistent. Servers arent very responsive.
Excellent chef! Taro duck, giant shrimps, winter mellon soup, bass tail, crispy chicken and tofu; are out of this world.
The service is terrible! The waiters attitude was rude and the food was served slowly! Dont dare to come again
Service is slow and lousy. Food was good but pricey. Staff not attentive to you at all. Waited more than 20 minutes to get a glass of water. Overall the experience was not pleasant at all. Would not recommend it.
Havent dined in at this restaurant in a while. Dropped by today. Food is still quite good. However, the restaurant was quite busy, and they only had two waitresses working. Service took a long time. It was not their fault, but still disappointing.
Ordered takeout and dined in several times. Food was always prepared with care, amazing quality. Definitely recommend.
Awesome tasting thin pancake Peking Duck! Also their fresh fish was amazing
Awesome foods
The food is super tasty, we ordered the taro duck, which was cooked really well. Its like a classic good Canto Chinese restaurant in vibe and food.
The food at the restaurant was excellent. I ordered the Pekin duck and it was delicious! The service is also very good, the waiter and waitress were very attentive to my needs the whole time. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is craving Chinese food.
Good food
I absolutely loved the food at this restaurant, especially the Peking Duck and Sticky Rice Chicken. Every dish was amazing and full of flavor. This place never disappoints. Highly recommended!
We love this place for their Peking duck. Great authentic taste and good dishes overall. Would come back again.
Waited 45 minutes before any dish showed up. It was busy but not impossibly busy. And honestly no excuse for not a single dish to show up after that long time. Ive had a lot of chinese food in Toronto and the quality was on par with expected but nothing world beating.
Just had dinner at this restaurant with the recommendation of a friend for their Peking duck. This is my first time at this restaurant although was here at this location many times in the past when the previous restaurant was operating. Their Peking duck is really one of the best among all Chinese restaurants, with very tasty and crispy skin of the duck. We ordered three other dishes and two out of these three dishes are very good too, better than many competitors. The only thing that has to be mentioned is the price, higher than most of the competition and the dishes have smaller portion than the competition too.
Not bad but not exceptional! Parking is good! Steam fish not treated welll still left with lots of fish scales! Can try
this place sucks. They play tricks with customers. When I paid the bill, I was told to pay $60 more than the printed price. I asked why. They said the package price was for cash only. I asked why didn t you tell me upfront? The cashier said it is printed but the characters are so small. And the meal is mediocre. Will not come ever ever to this place again
Pretty good Chinese food. As most people recommended, I like their Peking duck plus lettuce wrap, sweet and sour pork, sticky rice Chicken and snow pea leaves. Majority of their dishes have good quality.
Amazing food and very reasonable
Good food overall. Love their steamed fish and Peking duck. Their portion isn t large but tasted good. They are shorted staffed as only 3-4 staff served the whole restaurant which was full when we visited.
I went with a small group of friends on a Friday night, and the server was so kind and on it for our orders. The portions are great for sharing and the jasmine tea smells and taste great.
Went here in a group of 5. We ordered a set dinner, which was meant to feed a group of 4 but, it fed more than that. The dishes were great but, it was loud inside due to the very open layout and other costumers talking to each other. Theres nothing inside to dampen the noise.
This place is recommended to me by a fellow foodie as one of the best places in Toronto to get Peking duck. And so far, I have not been disapppointed - with quality that is on par with other more expensive brands. Their other dishes are also of high quality - but be aware that none of the offerings here are cheap. The good thing is you do get your moneys worth. Parking is free and relatively plentiful IF you go off-hours. Weekend nights will be more challenging, for obvious reasons. Parking: Fills up very quickly during weekend mealtimes
Roasted duck is a must! I tried numerous restaurants for the peking duck but J&Y s impressed me a lot. Deep fried salt and pepper duck is the best way to deal with the leftovers. Just one thing I didn t like - they didn t provide enough bread but charged me $6 for extra bread.
Very good service. Good food and nice ambient. Wil definitely come back next time.
Amazing duck dishes
So delicious! Huge portions.
The fried beef river is rubbish, the lobster is too expensive, and the Cantonese fried noodles are not good.
We are in Canada, change language of website to English
The best
Try their roast duck. You won t be disappointed.
Charged us extra for a little bit of extra spring onions for our Peking duck. We were hoping to get a whole duck but there weren t a lot of meat and they only gave us 8 wraps. Extra wraps were also a $6 charge. When asked for the rest of the duck, they said this was it. Looks like they split 1 duck to 2 or 3 orders. What s the point of charging for sauce or little things when it only upsets the customer and make them tip much less. Probably won t be back here again
Great food, great price! Must tried!
Third time coming here; the previous two trips were enjoyable but the last trip pretty much cemented that we won t ever go back. Two people in our group are allergic to shellfish, and I told the waiter this at the outset. We chose what we thought were shellfish free options. The hot and sour soup came out with shrimp We asked to double check again and the other items weee fine. The Peking duck and the duck rice was enjoyable, but for some reason they didn t have lettuce. Uuh wth? Not to say the duck rice wasn t good though. Then I realized.. why is the duck rice the second dish? Isn t usually the last dish? Then our dining experience just went downhill from there. We ordered another soup, but didn t get bowls for the two shellfish allergic diners. Also had to ask again for new spoons. Flagging the waiter down in a near empty restaurant took more effort than it should. At one point the chef - who was on his meal break - flagged the waiter for us. The server(s) wasn t helpful with menu suggestions. The food sequencing was just weird (came out slowly and in no specific order). Like one dish would come out - we were hungry so we ate almost all of that and waited for the next dish. Food quality was ok - I get the impression that they prepped for their set menu and wasn t ready for people ordering non set menu. Eg I wanted steamed fish but the server said it was for the set menus only and wouldn t sell one to me just a la carte. That being said, restaurant is nice and clean.
Its an authentic Cantonese restaurant with Great food! We are group of 9 and ordered a set menus and everything was delicious. Only issue was the lobster dish came out last, where normally that should be near the start or middle of the meal. We were too full to eat the lobster at the end. That being said, Lisa the waitress was very accommodating and super friendly. She understood one person has very strict dietary restriction and try to make everything okay for her. Its a very clean and bright environment. Washroom was nice and smells fine. We hope to come back again someday.
Great music, wonderful service, clean bathrooms, pleasant atmosphere, delicious food
Pricey but good service, ambience and food. You get what you pay for!
My guests said it was the best Peking duck theyd had in the GTA, and I agree. Excellent quality, good portion sizes, and very kind and attentive service. We ordered the duck set dinner for 4 plus sweet and sour pork and we were more than satisfied. Well definitely be back!
The food is quite nice, good service, and plenty of parking after office hours. We enjoyed our food and almost have forgotten to take food photos... Lol
Great food. Loved their peking duck and tofu with king mushroom. Food is on the expensive side but definitely worth the quality.
Very busy. Food was tasty. I thought this was a westernized Chinese restaurant but it is actually quaite authentic. The roast duck is very good, and I also think other dishes are delicious. If I have to pick a problem, it is that the store is sometimes too busy, and the fried pork belly is cut into too large pieces, which affects the taste, and there is also a slight problem with the order of serving.
Pleasantly surprised with how decent the food was ! Good service and environment as well. Make sure you make a reservation beforehand. Highly recommend their duck fried rice and clam steam egg. Peking duck always a gem!
Had delicious Chinese meals
Had lunch with friends yesterday. The food quality is well above average, and the services are good using the yardstick of a Hong Kong restaurant. I think the price is quite reasonable too compared to other fine-dining Chinese restaurants. Parking: Its not a large carpark and during peak hours can be quite jammed due to arriving cars waiting for a spot.
Food was so great!
Tipping is not a law in Canada! No way required and it s rude for the waitress to make any comment on it. Update to the owner: I paid my food and taxes but I NEVER award poor service without respect and ignorance, for example I waited a while until the waitress came over to order, no explanations, she s only attentive and helped the neighbour table(a white couple) to wrap up the food, treated them well but did nothing to me, it s extremely rude and unprofessional to confront any customers about not leaving a tip or not leaving a big enough tip, to say something about the tip with your employees and gave me attitudes. You have to work for tips which means you need to provide good service. Oh great experience! I ve never seen something like this!
The food is delicious. If you pay cash u can Has 10 percent discount. They has the revolution at the front door now. It is better to book the table at weekend, pretty full. Peking duck is $47 Thanks the chef Cooking for us and the boss helping up to get a group photos. We will come back for sure.
Best Chinese food.
Its quite delicious, but the waiter keeps asking you, have you finished eating? Can you put the plate away :( Brother, of course I havent finished it, why are you staring at my food... . Eat for an hour at most, don t rush, don t rush, and leave for a while after eating. The half-eaten lobster asked me if I had finished, and the half-eaten chicken asked me if I had finished.
We went for dinner at 7pm on a weekday at J&Y Chinese Cuisine, the restaurant was about 40% full by 8pm. There were only 4 people serving the entire restaurant. After placing our Peking duck orders, the duck and the rest of the dishes arrived in a reasonable time, however when we tried to order more Peking duck wrappers, it took forever. It was hard to get the waitress to refill the tea, it was even hard to get them to bring the check. I hope the restaurant can hire more waitresses or let the guests place their orders on their cellphone. The food arrived hot and the quality are of OK quality. Presentation of the Peking duck skin and the lattice wrap were good. The restaurant should not be so stingy on the Peking duck wrappers, the cucumber and green onion slices, those items are not expensive! We had to wait more than 15 mins for our extra order of wrappers to arrive, just think about how frustrating it was and how much food enjoyment we lost because of the wait. The restaurant has a lot of large tables and can accommodate large groups. Parking at night time will not be a problem as the office complexes are closed, however I think parking will be a problem if you arrive before 5pm as there are a lot of doctors offices, medical labs and walk-in clinics. I do recommend the restaurant if you are not too picky with your food, and has time to put up with their slow service (not a criticism of their waitresses because they were actually quite polite, they just have too much to handle).
Our first time here, the food was fresh and tasty, the service was quite good and the portions were large. We will definitely return for more.
Great duck. Expensive but delicious
Nice spacious and clean restaurant! Had take out and dine in. Good service and very tasty food. Not too salty or oily. The Peking duck and crispy chicken are top notch!
Food taste average, friendly service, affordable price, nice environment
By far, the best Peking duck in the GTA.
Could you please train your employees how to use food delivery app? They only ask customer to cancel the order and never learn! Just one response: The manager is not here, I dont know how to use the machine, only the manager know how to use the machine. Jesus Christ, Its 2023!
Food was very tasty and service was good too, but they really need to update the website on pricing. Peking duck is $70 and additional $15 for the lettuce wrap. None of the combos on their website were available. The combo we got was suppose to include dessert but it didn t.
The food at J&Y is very good. It s true what the other reviews are saying about the Peking Duck. I don t know a better place for Peking Duck. The wrappers are super thin which is good. The only issue is they are not generous with the condiments for the Peking Duck, so you will have to order (and pay) for another set. I knew this ahead of time, so I just order two sets. The other reviews rave about the fried pork ribs which are good, but their Sweet and Sour Pork is really good. That will always be one of the dishes each time we go. The quality and taste can also be extended to all the other dishes we had. Everything was very good. The service is also very good. Waiter we very quick to fill out request, take away finished plates, top up tea when needed, and replace eating plates. I would highly recommend J&Y. It s our go to place for tradition Chinese food.
The portions were good and the duck was carved beautifully. Each slice had a great mix of fat, skin, and meat portion.Thank you.
Comfortable seating, high chair available for infants, tasty food & friendly service! Parking: Parking can be a difficult to find depending on time of day and can be a tight lot to manoeuver if busy.
This Cantonese restaurant is relatively authentic in the GTA circle and is suitable for wedding banquets or dinner parties.
Chicken was soggy and gross and noodles were awful
Their Peking duck I think one of the most reasonable priced in the city with the quality and taste at par with one of the best one out there. Upgrade the duck bone with the duck bone soup is really worth it, the soup is tasty with a little hint of ginger, I also upgraded with duck fried rice which is one of the best I ever taste. One of the other dish that I really like is egg tofu with king mushroom. Very comforting food taste like home. Their service is decent and fast, the venue is clean and new.
Tried their Peking duck with pancakes for the first time, and it was a takeaway order - I have to say this that was a 10/10!
Went to this place on last weekend with party of 10 of us, the restaurant is not quiet busy for that evening, we ordered Peking duck, oyster, pigeon, lobster, abalone, overall the food is delicious and services is good, we spent over $1000 but its worth it.
Had an amazing meal! The quality of the food is superior! Razor clams with black bean sauce, Oysters with garlic and onion, Peiking Duck with lettuce wraps. Awesome! With a beer and tea for $168 plus tip.
Best Peking duck in GTA. Nice sauce , pie , onions But the cucumber bits were not fresh. Other dishes were delicious.
Wheelchair accessibility: Food
tea goog
good one nice one
Used to be my go-to-place for pecking ducks but their quality has gotten poorer recently
Very friendly staff; quick service, most importantly, genuine Chinese cooking....not Westernized!
Simply wonderful is all I can really say! Duck, Soup, appetizers - the food was just as spot on wonderful as the service! Bring cash for a 10% discount off your bill!
Foods: 10/10 Service: 10 Serving Time: 7 Portions: 7 Ambience: 8 Cleanliness: 9 Price: 8 Parking: 8 Complimentaries: N/A This place was under renovation but they were open as usual, and it didnt affect our dining experience. We came here for lunch on Easter Sunday. We ordered Pork ribs with Garlic, Salt & Pepper Squid, Deep Fried Crispy Chicken, Fish Maw soup, Mapo tofu, Yangchow Fried rice, Cantonese Chow Mien, and they were all really good and tasty. *** Cash payments will receive a 10% discount *** Parking: It will probably be a bit challenging to find a parking spot during business hours when most of the medical facilities are open, especially during the week.
Not bad, but there are too many better ones out there
Food wasnt good.&
The soup is tasty, the duck skin is delicious, the price is average
There is only a few Chinese restaurants that have all three key ingredients to be successful : food quality, service and atmosphere. J&Y has all ingredients. We ordered dim sum appetizers, green bass (two-way, steamed and stir fried) and fried egg noodle with bean sprout. I definitely will visit again.
I didnt plan on visiting this restaurant, but circumstances forced me to as I got turned away from QJD due to their lack of space without an RSVP. As I had a craving for Peking duck, I decided to give this restaurant a try. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was, and the prices were reasonable. Although we ordered their lettuce wraps, the meat was slightly salty. On the other hand, the steamed egg with clam that I ordered was delightful. However, the Chinese broccoli with beef had cold beef slices, and I was expecting it to be piping hot. Despite these minor setbacks, I would still consider returning to this restaurant. Hopefully, they can adjust the saltiness of the Peking duck lettuce wraps.
Waited for over 40 mins with no food after ordering, when the dinning hall was not even full.
Unless you speak Chinese, you will NOT get any service, and if you will, I would definitely check the quality of the food. Made reservations for 3 people, came 5 min before, waited 15 minutes to get seated(lots of empty tables, but we were seated at 8 people table). 10 min until the waiter brought us menus another 10 min until he returned. Took our order and left. A busboy brought us tea, and for the next 45 min, we were waiting for our food, which never arrived. Ive tried to ask a few waiters about our order, and we heard the same answer : 5 minutes. There were a few tables full of Chinese customers that came in after us, and their food was served within 15 minutes. Ive approached the manager and asked how long does it takes to make a soup, and I received a very abrupt answer that we should wait, since our order is only 30 minutes old. We left the restaurant wery upset, and I will make sure that everyone will know not to come to J&Y CHINESE CUISINE. Actually, one of my cousins is a newspaper editor ........
Southern chinese restaurants but the peking duck is so authentic!!! This peking is one of the best duck is second only to QJD, and the food isnt overpriced like QJD so I am definitely coming back for the duck.
Great Peking duck, great lettuce wraps. Service was a bit slow but still ok. Would recommend for the Peking duck, every table had ordered it when we were there
Very impressed with this restaurant. Would have never found them if not recommended by a friend of a friend. Renovations outside also obscure the front signage for first timers visiting. Parking is also limited but fine for dinner hours as most businesses are closed. I can imagine lunch parking to be tough. On to the food. Great selection of food in your typical Chinese fine dining fare. Peking duck pancakes were fantastic with just the right amount of crispy browned skin to meat ratio. Steamed pancakes were fresh to order. Sweet and sour pork was high quality. The steamed fish was also very well done. Duck Fried rice was typical. Stir fried noodle was delicious but a bit on the oilier side. Portions were good, balanced - not took much not too little. The Chinese Gai lan greens were cooked well and had a crisp finish (unlike some restaurants that overcook it). Atmosphere was nice and tables well spaced out. The waiters and waitresses came a good intervals to check in and were very polite as well. Price is up there but as with all covid inflation - eating out will be more expensive. Dessert was green bean soup included. Would go back for sure. 9/10
The food took 1.5 hours to arrive and I believe the only reason it didn t take 2 hours was because we mentioned it to the wait staff. Our family will never eat here again.
The saddest fried rice, driest chicken Ive had. But the pork was okay. Not only was the chicken fried, but it also had no flavor inside. Take a look at the appearance of the fried rice.
Best peking duck in town, 10% off if you pay in cash
I dont recommend it. Not bad, but definitely not worth the 150 for two people. I came here after reading Xiaohongshu s recommendation for roast duck. The Beijing Sliced Duck is simply roasted duck skin, and the salt and pepper duck rack is even better than this. The skin wasnt very crispy. I originally wanted to order roast duck which would be cheaper but didnt, probably because the duck with sliced skin is 20 more expensive! The imperial concubines chicken is okay, but the service is very poor. Its indistinguishable from the big duck pear. I havent been here once except for food. I always go to the front desk to add food. Attached is the receipt at the end, 150 is really a waste of money. By the way, 10% off cash.
We came back and ate Beijing stuffed duck and stir-fried duck meat floss again. They were both delicious! The sweet and sour pork and stir-fried vegetables are both delicious! Watercress stew is full of flavor and ingredients!
I found this hidden restaurant online, and I am glad I found it -- I will definitely be back. The stir fried beef was tender and service was good.
My whole family loves the food at this restaurant. They serve high quality authentic Chinese food that is very much lacking in North York. There is currently construction in front of the restaurant blocking the entire front but they are open and the inside is uneffected. Would highly recommend to try this place.
I love Cantonese Chow Mein, it s one of my go to dishes whenever I go to a new Chinese restaurant. Performed a google search and saw that J&Y was reviewed as having the best Cantonese Chow Mein and I wanted to find out for myself how good it was. Finding the place was challenging to say the least. There is construction happening right outside of the restaurant s entrance and it s specially hard to find. The best directions I can provide is just go next to the Life Labs, although you won t be able to see the entrance the restaurant is next to it. To find the entrance keep walking in that direction and you will spot the side door you see in the pictures I posted. The Cantonese chow mein was not as good as I was expecting it. The noodles were not crispy and the sauce lacked in flavour. On the other hand the general Tsao s chicken was superb. Crispy, spicy, and tangy, it truly was the dish that made my experience worthwhile at this restaurant. We also ordered the special fried rice and the chicken soup and both were good. The service was very attentive, so I would recommend this place, but this is not the best Cantonese chow mein around by a long shot.
Very good, the best fried rice, and the braised pork with pickled vegetables is also very authentic
Parking: Went Sunday but I think busy time parking would be hard Food
Came here for a friends birthday yesterday! It was amazing!! SO MUCH better than other Chinese restaurants the food quantity was good and everything was so fresh and yummy and less MSG. Unlike congee queen
Aside from some shady cash discount issues, the food is quite delicious and reasonably priced Try the steamed egg with clam and j&y fried rice Food
So yummy! We loved the Peking duck and lettuce wraps. The green beans and beef was excellent as was the sweet and sour pork. I would not recommend the Singapore vermicelli though. The staff were incredibly friendly. We did not have a reservation and had to wait over 20 minutes on Saturday night around 8pm, but it was well worth it.
Fried noodles with beef was really good. Dim sum was a bit disappointing, especially the shrimp dumplings. Will try more next time
Amply pleased with the food! I was craving some hot soup.. the hot and sour soup was just about perfect! The meat (baked chicken) dish with spring onion and ginger was quite flavourful. Will go back again but will probably try something boneless.. had to use fork and chopsticks to get the meat off the bones lol! Friendly and helpful staff members! Family friendly.
Love this restaurant. If it was only a bit cheaper, Id eat here so much more often. But I think you get what you pay for. Their Peking Duck is one of the best in the GTA at the moment. But be warned, it is also pricier - I believe $70. If you are eating in a small group, it may get expensive. But if you have a bigger group (10 people), they have some Set Menus that are quite worth it if you can pay cash. On my last visit, we ordered a set that came with Peking duck in two courses, lobster, sweet and sour pork, steamed fish, snow pea leaves, and dessert. We did add noodles and crispy chicken (whole), which was the perfect amount of food for us. After tax and tip, we paid $50 each with a table of 11. Honestly not bad at all, but not comparable to Chinese restaurant prices in the past (of course). Id recommend everything that we ordered. The taste is great and the portions are actually quite good, especially the steamed fish. Ill definitely be back, make sure to bring cash to access the Set Menu.
The crispy garlic chicken, steamed eggs with clams, dry fried green beans, JY fried rice (with fresh scallops) and hot and sour soup were all delicious. Service was very accommodating and guided us on the menu selection. Highly recommend.
Food is fresh. Their peking duck and steamed eggs & clam were amazing!
Great food ! I have tried this restaurants food a couple of times, mostly for take out. I tried Fried whole Chicken and Chicken with Lime and it was delicious. Today we decided to dine at the restaurant. We ordered fried shrimp, fried pork ribs and another chicken with green and red pepper (not sure the name). All the food were well cooked and obviously there was a master chef behind those cuisine. The only reason I rated 4/5 was service, the waitress barely could speak English and could not communicate that even took a wrong order. She didnt bring glasses, no napkins, no plates, everytime we had to ask basic things. Just my two cents for management is to hire a bi-lingual waitress/waiter for non-Asian customers, because the quality of your food is AWESOME and it could be a great opportunity for your brand to be more popular.
The food is average and edible, but not recommended
Simple yet tasty. We arrived at closing time- so our order was a bit rushed(last order) but staff were accommodating. Had vegetarian food that may/may not have been on the menu as we ordered- again the food was customised to our taste and preferences.Would like to visit again in more relaxed circumstances and try their other food!
Delicious and authentic
Amazing peking duck. Everything in general was good though from the fried rice to the snow pea leaves. The inside is nice but not over the top. Truly a hidden gem!
Roast duck is very good
My wife and I had dinner there this evening, the restaurant staff were amazing as was the food.. More upmarket than your normal Chinese restaurant Highly recommended, well be back again real soon.
Waiting time is long however the rest are good.
Food was delicious.
Great place to spend a little more for exquisite Chinese cuisine. The restaurant has very authentic Cantonese cuisine with the exception of the Peking duck. Very likely that they have a chef specializes in the duck and Cantonese chef for all other dishes. The Peking duck comes with 12 pieces of pancake, julienned cucumbers, green onion and sweet bean paste sauce. The rest of the duck is used for one of these options: soup, lettuce wrap, fried rice or served on its own in pieces. I highly recommend the lettuce wrap and fried rice. The waiter offered to use the duck meat for fried rice and duck bones for soup for extra cost. Ive also tried the braised egg tofu with maitake mushroom. The tofu is very custard-like, which absorbs the sauce and mushroom flavor well. This dish and the duck fried rice is a good combination. Additionally, Ive gotten half a crispy chicken with garlic. The preparation is done similarly to Peking duck, where the skin is fried extra crispy. The service is impeccable, where the waiter provided awesome suggestions when ordering (i.e. whether we ordered enough food for the table, serving order of the soup and main dishes...). Food arrived in a timely manner. Cant wait to come back again.
Food is great Amount is lot But Poor service
Fair price Looks clean Good food
Very surprised with the quality and quanity of their food. Menu was simple, yet authenthic. Not salty or uses a ton of MSG as flavouring. Uses fresh ingredients.
Great food and highly professional and friendly staff. 100% recommended!
Dinner service on Sunday Oct 2nd evening was ridiculously slow. Almost laughable actually. A total of about 7 dishes took almost 3 hours to come out (we sat at 6pm and didnt leave until almost 9pm). At one point we received no dishes for almost an hour. And all the tables around us were having the same issue. The servers did their best, but no explanation and no apologies were given. Some elderly people at other tables were literally falling asleep. It even took 25 mins to get dessert and our bill. My parents felt embarrassed to have invited our family to eat dinner there. The food (when it eventually arrived) did taste good. And the Peking Duck was one of the better tasting dishes compared to other GTA Chinese restaurants. But the experience was ruined by having to wait almost 30 mins per dish. Very unfortunate, I wanted to really like this place.
Very clean restaurant with a great food selection (but I always ask the waitress for recommendations). Service is great, I think there is a very decent chef running the kitchen.
Hubby and I ate here for my birthday today and it was delicious. I loved all the dishes we ordered and we would definitely come back again. Service is also excellent and everyone was very friendly.
First time here. Came for Thanksgiving. Well review so I thought I would give it a try. Tried the Peking duck with the fried rice as the second dish, some veggies and deep fried salt and pepper squid. Peking duck was good but im not sure if it was great. The fried rice was just ok, a bit dry to be completely honest here. Veggies were good and the squid was good too. Overall I wasnt blown away by anything in particular so I do t think I will return but I still would recommend to those who like Peking duck to give it a try.
I take this street everyday but never noticed the restaurant until recently. I love the decor, it has a very traditional Chinese restaurant feel to it! Peking duck is great but they took a really long time to serve the fried rice. They charge for extra wraps and sauce which is unimaginable! Such a big restaurant charging for 10 rice wraps? LOL other than that it was good.
The worst food and service Ive had in a long time!
Really good food.
Comfortable seating, good food... Parking is not that great
Tasty , Decorated and Excellent Clean atmosphere.
Reco mushroom beef and the crispy chicken. The duck soup also very delicious. The Peking duck a bit dry. Would come again.
Was craving Peking duck and heard that J&Y had the best Peking duck in North York so I had to try it! Ordered the combo for 4 and it came with: hot and sour soup, Peking duck wraps, duck lettuce wraps, mixed veggie stir fry, beef fried rice, and general tao chicken (but substituted for sweet and sour pork for $5). It was a lot of good and we ended having leftovers. Everything tasted fresh and not too oily 10/10. Definitely would come again and recommend!
The Peking duck is very delicious. The crust is thin and chewy. The colorful flavor is not too strong. It is worth a try.
The roast duck is delicious and the service is good. The only drawback is that there is no baby changing table in the bathroom. I had to carry my 8-month-old baby on my shoulders to change diapers in the womens bathroom stall. I hope the store can improve it.
As far as Peking duck goes, the quality here seems a bit below average compared to other places. Nothing special. Their other food items are pretty good though. Id recommend the fried spare ribs. Crispy and delicious! Overall decently priced.
Prompt, professional service abd delicious food. A real hidden gem. Chef is proud of the dishes served and the quality shows!
Went here after reading good reviews, was after peking duck. There was eight of us for dinner on a Sunday night. It was not very busy when we got there at six. Service was good at that time, ordered two ducks one with the lettuce wrap and the other with pepper and salt. Also the hot and sour soup, sweet and sour pork, snow pea leaves with garlic, cantonese chow mein, and general taus chicken. All the food was tasty and come in a reasonable time. Mid way though our meal the restaurant got full and service slowed. We had to wait or wave down a waiter to get any service. Other then that the food wasgreat and service was good.
Bright and peaceful. Good food.
tasty! Fried pork ribs, fish, squab, and diced beef are all very good.
Expensive and tastes average, a small bowl of rice costs three bucks
Had a wonderful lunch here, food tastes great, service is nice, and the environment is clean and comfortable. Definitely will come back again. Food
I don t understand why the server said Peking duck is never shown and cut right in front of the customer s table, especially at this restaurant. My family and friends have been coming here before the new ownership and it has always been done this way ..the Peking duck is wheeled over and presented in front of the customer table and then the crispy skin is cut and served accordingly. That s how it should always be presented! This is not the serving we received today, in addition, the amount of the crispy skin dish did not comprise an amount we would normally get from a whole peking duck serving!
On a Sunday night, we decided to come here for some Peking Duck. This restaurant is tricky to get to as its tucked inside a very small office plaza, if you should go under the overpass on Shepherd Avenue, you will have to make a long U-turn to get back to it. Parking was nearly impossible on this Sunday night, but if you are patient, spots should open up. The food was decent, not great by any means. The portions are also on the smaller side, so you need to factor that in when placing orders. Service was spotty, after our Peking Duck dishes, we had several other dishes that we had to wait for more than 20 minutes, I think they had forgotten we had other items. Also, the dishes were all tend to be on the salty side. In all, it was OK.
It was ok. Service was generally average to below average. Food was good but priced higher than average which I believe the atmosphere and setting had intended for. Was generally ignored during the meal which is good and bad depending on your preference. First time at this type of restaurant where tea was not offered until after we asked for it after the first dish was served (well after ordering). Must be because we were a young family with no elders!
Good Hong Kong Cantonese food. The slated squid was crispy and tender. The fried Prawns were beautifully presented and tasty. Everything else was delightful.
Amazing! The Peking duck was delicious and the service was great. We also got the garlic chicken which was so crispy and delicious. We almost forgot our leftovers and one the waitstaff ran out after us to flag us down. This was much appreciated, and we will definitely be returning.
I dunno?! Perhaps my expectations were high based on ratings and because it was just ok , I m so disappointed. The servers often forgot about us, having to repeatedly ask for the same things. They just didn t care we were there! Maybe because we are Gweilo ? Our starters came after the mains. General Tao was just basic, too much white pepper used in spring rolls and the wonton soup broth lacked any flavour. The fried rice and broccoli with garlic were really good. They are trying to be classy and upscale but it just fall flat and nothing special at all here. 2.5 stars
Was invited for dinner and we feasted! Dined in a private room that fit two tables! Attentive and friendly service! The dishes were cooked very well and very clean! Not overly oily and it was nice to have a sweet and sour pork that wasn t soggy. The batter held up well for a good bite. The host chose a great selection of dishes that show cased different proteins and vegetables. The duck and taro was a highlight!
Excellent food, very fresh starting with the tea! New favorite spot!
So good!! And other foods coming out the kitchen looks so good as well Highly recommend!
This is not one of the common Chinese restaurants that you can find easily in any neighborhood. Any common Chinese dishes that you order from here taste better than most of its competitors. That is why the prices are higher than those competitors. So, you should not expect a good value if you focus on portion size x the price, but if you really want to feel satisfied by the taste of the food, you should give it a try. You wont get disappointed. I gave 4 stars for atmosphere because there was a group in a party room and it was very loud, and I wish there was a door to close, but there was not.
Excellent authentic food, super clean place and great service. The night we went, it took an hour and 10 mins for the food to arrive so knocking off a star, but its normally quite fast.
Slighty pricey but good food
Expensive but delicious. Two dish s, the Beef w Green Beans and Lemon Chicken cost me $44 bucks total. I like to order from here as a special treat. Highly recommend these two items.
