I usually come here for the corned beef egg sandwich :) It was instantly love; the sandwich comes out pipping hot, egg is fluffy, and it is very delicious. You can also get your bread toasted as well. During the recent visit, I found that the egg was a bit overcooked. I hope it was just a one-off experience. I still enjoy their egg sandwiches very much! I place my order over the phone to speed up the process. The lady answering the phone is always friendly, polite, and cheerful. There is only one table with 2 seats inside the store; the shop is meant for takeouts, and it is very popular amongst the people in the Chinese community.
Went at 12 noon for takeout, and got my order in 6 mins - pretty good! The portion is bigger than it looks, there's a second row of chicken and the rice expands quite a bit once you break the form. The combo is only $13.90+tax and comes with a very authentic, not too sweet HK milk tea. The ladies at the counter were very nice to me as well. My only complaint is that the chicken could be warmer, it tasted very cold like it was just taken out of the fridge... I didn't mind it too much but would be nice to have it warmer at least at room temperature.
Authentic Hainanese chicken rice with Hong Kong style milk tea is unbeatable. The chicken rice is not oily, hainanese chicken with sweet soy sauce, green onions sauce and thai sauce, fresh tomato, and cucumber. Health and refreshing. Authentic Hong Kong style milk tea, I can tell this is the real taste of what HK style milk tea is taste like. This combo is so worth to buy and itโs only cost $13.99 + tax.
We were a bit skeptical at first about their selling point of having award winning HK style milk tea but we were pleasantly surprised by their drinks. We were initially welcomed by a nice waitress once we entered the store. It is a small place with only one table so it's meant for take outs mostly. We each ordered a drink but they do also offer food options if you are interested. Each drink cost around 6$ for 16 or 20oz and the drinks tasted amazing.
I do love their signature milk tea and the yuan yang (coffee mix milk tea). It's very smooth and strong tea flavor, and taste good hot and cold. I stop by almost every other morning to buy a cup. The food is decent, lots of variety of signature Hong Kong cafe nostalgic dishes like the Hainan chicken rice, and the toasted crispy buns with condensed milk (you can also go for the condensed milk and peanut butter). I tried both, and brought back so many good old memories. Pretty generous portions too with the Haninan chicken! You usually don't get as much chicken pieces elsewhere. The cafe is really a takeout spot only so don't be taken by surprise by the small place. There's only one table in the shop. It isn't meant for people to dine in more for people waiting for their takeout mostly. The place is very clean tho. The ladies there are also very friendly, like your good old neighbors. As for parking, there's green P parking across the street, and also street parking around the area, so you shouldn't find it that difficult to find parking. It's located on Finch, west of Yonge.
Itโs a cute cafe with extensive menu options, suitable for takeout. The staff is very nice and friendly and welcomes you with a warm smile. I tried a cold โMarathon Yuangyangโ which is the equivalent of iced coffee with milk. And a โClub Sandwich Steak Bunโ. I really liked my beverage as it was refreshing on a hot evening. And the club included ham, fried eggs and steak; it was fresh and well-packaged.
Stopped by for a late snack and got a couple of pineapple buns (one with satay beef, the other with egg and ham) and hk milk tea (one hot, the other cold). HK milk tea is easily one of the best in the city - smooth and not overly sweet. Also loved the pineapple buns - pillowy, soft, buttery, crusty. The meats were on thr salty side but that actually balanced the sweetness of the buns well. Place is mainly a takeout spot but has a table on the side that sits 2. Service is friendly, efficient and helpful. Prices are comparable to similar places. Menu is huge and varied. Will definitely be back if I'm in the area as this is a great stop for a quick and tasty bite.
Stopped by Marathon Cafe for a Yelp event. This place is hidden along Finch Ave and is a small take-out only spot, so plan accordingly! The service was excellent, with the lady providing helpful recommendations. We tried the HK Marathon Milk Tea and Marathon Poutine. The Milk Tea had authentic Hong Kong flavours and was a good choice. The Marathon Poutine, with its meat sauce and gravy, was also delicious. I was very pleased with this stop and will return to explore more of the menu. Recommended!
Ordered from here five times since I live nearby, and only once was the portion decent. Not worth the money although taste is okay. Definitely won t be coming back. Food
I ordered the steamed rice roll on Saturday morning and noticed that they mixed super old rice roll (most likely from days ago) and freshers once together. So 2/3 of my order is stale and literally tasted spoiled even though they put a ton of sauce to cover it up! I had a stomachache immediate after eating a few pieces Please avoid this place if you care about your health.
Do keep in mind this place only really does cash, debit, and e-transfer so make sure you have any of those methods in hand! This place is a great takeout spot for classic HK-style eats. Their milk tea is definitely the star of the show, as its one of the better ones Ive had. Theres very, very limited seating so expect to only do takeout from this spot. The other items are pretty good as well, and I enjoy the pineapple buns from here.
Surprisingly blend.
I got the baked triple cheese with meat sauce on rice. It was pretty decent. I just wish there was more ground beef in it because it was severely lacking.
Good hidden gem in North York Accepts eTransfer as well There is one table to dine in Delicious food and drinks, the staffs are very friendly!
Delicious tea!
bad service the lady treat you differently if you don t speak Cantonese
The store clerk was very professional. When we humbly asked her what yuanyang was, her disdain was evident.
The female cashier at the front is really disgusting and bad service. When she was talking, her mouth was turning up. and her eyes was squinting, which makes people feel very uncomfortable. I guess she must be the bosss daughter.
Very slow service!
So rude lady working there, she dont like to answer to questions. I dont know why she is so rude, no manners. If you want det disrespectful, go to marathon cafe.
If I could give zero points, I would definitely do so. On June 23, I went as an Uber driver to pick up the order, and after waiting for a few minutes, he told me it would take ten minutes. After ten minutes, I went back and another idiot told me it would take twenty more minutes. These idiots apparently have no understanding of the minutes and duration and the conditions of the driver. And they dont want to give an exact time to the driver. I advise Uber and Door Dash drivers to deal with these restaurants seriously and report to them so that they learn what to do. When you are not able to prepare food orders, you make the mistake of accepting orders
Found them at the recent festival at MLS. Bought 3 different unique Bo Lo Bao flavors (matcha, strawberry, chocolate) was the most intriguing. They werent anything special and feel flat on the hype. The mixed curry beef/fish balls were actually my favorite but nothing that you cant find elsewhere. The Bolognese pasta was ok. Wished they could get on board with the credit card tap technology like the rest of the vendors and itll encourage me to come spend more.
Ordered Ubereats. The 16oz sirloin steak rice bowl is scam. Only got 8oz or even less. Other items are plain.
Here is always my first choice for a quick lunch or tea in this area. Their milk tea is good! Just this is a place mainly for take out Food
I tried their pork chop pineapple bun and it was huge! Definite try for newbies. Love their HK style milk tea. Not too sweet at regular sugar lvl.
Giving this 5 stars because this is one of the best Hainanese chicken rice dishes Ive ever eaten. They also removed all the bones which was a nice surprise. My experience with the lady was quite pleasant when I picked up my food too! Should note this is really a takeout place as theres no seating inside.
The chicken is good. The price is reasonable. The store is old and small. The service is good.
Cute little outpost of the famous Marathon Cafe! The interior is super small with only a tiny table that fits 2 ppl. If you are getting take out, the waiting area can only fit 2 people as well. The kitchen looks clean. There s a very cute bolorbao window displaying their fresh baked goods. The behind the register isn t too friendly so don t expect any good service here.
Friendly staff! Authentic food! Best drinks! What more can you ask for?
French toast and pineapple was AMAZING!!
Milk Tea
Bad service
Service sucks just like the other comments mentioned below. Whereas I did not rush them and wait for my meal patiently, the staff there was just being SO RUDE at you for no reason. When I ask for take away box for my take away order, they just throw my meal on the table and being mad at me. Though the meal was alright, I will NEVER come back to this restaurant AGAIN!!!!!
If you are from HK you will love this place, food is excellent and services are great. Very friendly and great vibe!!
Hong Kong-style tea restaurant fast food restaurant, the food is simple and average, but the waiters are very friendly, but the dine-in area is too small, there is only one table, takeaway is better.
Best milk tea in the area, hands down. You can try every bubble tea place and you wont find a better and stronger milk tea. Their tea is great hot or cold. Their HK style spaghetti Bolognese is still just as great as their other locations. Their luncheon meat+sausage noodle is seemed like it was nuked. Their sirloin rice is much better at the Richmond Hill location, you can actually taste wok breath there. Their tomato sauce porkchop spaghetti was good, porkchop was cooked perfectly. I think youre pretty safe ordering any baked dishes from this location. Their Marathon poutine is good too. Its basically their spaghetti Bolognese sauce on fries. Also ordered their black sesame bun combo. Bit disappointed that the bun was just a kaiser and not a pineapple bun. Overall, good, but finding that you need to be a little discerning when it comes to ordering off their menu compared to their other locations where theyve got an actual chef on site. For a quick drink, snack or a cheap lunch, Ill definitely hit them up but for dinner, I think Ill still be driving over to the Richmond Hill location.
Very reasonable prices, friendly staff and great comfort food. The HK milk tea is stellar.
Terrible experience, waited an hour just for them to tell me they didn t have my order after repeatedly checking with a (different) worker if they had my food.
I don t have to say that the lemon tea is delicious, but the other things are really bad. First of all, I added an omelette to the rice and I didn t see it. And I really don t understand why there is a little bit of cheese in the cheese baked rice. No Secondly, the second point is that I didn t see the cheese added to the pork chop buns. It was not added to me. I haven t seen the peanut butter sauce on the third West Toast either. I don t know if it s because there are too many orders and it s too busy or something. Anyway, I feel very disappointed and I won t go there again in the future.
The pineapple buns are really unpalatable. The pastry and bread are completely separate and not fused together. The pastry is as hard as a bald mans wig. I was told that I was lucky enough to buy the last few. I want to ask who has something wrong with eating this. Growing pineapple buns? This is the first time I saw someone put star anise in curry fish balls. It tasted very strange. I resented it so much that I was speechless
Pork chop bun and milk tea are good, but servive leaves a lot to be desired.
Had the hainan chicken which comes with a drink. Their milk tea is one of the best. The hainan chicken was very good too, and very flavorful. For a quick meal and value, I am happy we have a place like this in north York! The only thing I would wish is that the place was slightly bigger for those that want to sit down to eat. Otherwise take out is fine!
Only drinks are good, the food we ordered are terrible and tasted like leftover, would never come back for food
My partners friend recommended this place for their HK milk tea and weve been meaning to try it so were glad theres one that opened around North York. We got the milk tea with less sugar and the coffee/milk tea with no sugar. The flavour of the tea is good and I can see why they liked the drink. It did take awhile for my order to come though as it was really busy in there and the dine in is quite small. The drinks are a bit pricey and almost the same price as bubble tea but Im glad we got to try it. Would try the bolo buns next time.
I grew up with HK food my entire life. I guarantee you they cheaped out so hard on this location. They dont even have meat in their basic cheese baked beef rice and everything is overpriced compared to Markham. Avoid like the plague.
So glad they opened a Marathon in North York - great spot for Cantonese comfort food . Only problem is that it took a marathon to get my food - but it was busy and its new so its understandable. The Hainanese chicken rice was quite yummy and they gave a lot of chicken
Promotions during opening week were great and a good way for the team to get a lunch together. I would recommend their half-tea, half-coffee (cold)
At first, the cashier didnt know how to place the order, and already asked me to repeat the order details, at least three or four times. Then a middle-aged woman cashier asked me to repeat the order several more times, which really annoyed me, and finally I placed two orders. Everything was still wrong. I pressed the machine randomly to collect money. When I asked for the receipt, it was not as simple as having the cash code. The attitude was very bad. Importantly, the food was not particularly delicious. Never again!
Not recommended. The cashier kept letting me repeated my order but she still took the wrong one with overcharged, and her attitude was really bad and impatient, looks like I was the one made mistake. This is terrible and ridiculous. Asked her for the receipt and she gave me the one without any amount listed and she insisted it was the receipt, she is the worst cashier I met without doubt. The food is okay but I won t say it is tasty but the experience is awful.
The milk tea is delicious and the meal portion is large
Small place but pretty good milk tea! Ordered pineapple bun with pork chop and cold milk tea! Food
the best milk tea ever. always my go to. food wise, dont have a favourite on the menu, all are pretty good, almost tried everything on the menu. highly recommended.
Glad they opened up a location in North York! Tried their pineapple bun with butter and it was so tastefully great!!! Milk tea hits the spot with no questions asked, always smooth as expected! I have no service expectations at a Chinese takeout joint as long as I get my good food!
Good taste!!
Super excited with the Yonge/finch location opening! Pineapple bun with sliced butter and HK milk tea is my favourite combo from the store! Had some small issue with my order during the soft opening period but customer service was great and able to resolve it right away. Recommended dishes
Went there when this location just opened, there was a little wait but it wasnt too long and it was totally understandable for a new store. The food still tasted really good. Went back last night and they have settled down. Order was ready for pickup and food tasted as good as ever. Cant find any other store with this kind of menu near Yonge and Finch. Definitely recommended
Amazing food. Takeout only location. Ive tried around 6 menu items so far over a few visits and they have been quite consistent. Fair prices, too.
I love this place
Rude staff. Non-responsive. Bad service. I wouldnt recommend.
Fantastic food for a good price. Cooking staff was very nice and came out to the curb to bring us our food as it became ready. Theres a nice nearby mall to sit in so no seating isnt an issue. Everything I had myself and shared from my friends was fantastic, the only thing I thought other HK diners did better was the spaghetti. In comparison to a few other HK cafes in the area, id say this is more traditional but worth checking out if its a nice day or youre ordering delivery since theres not really any room to wait in the restaurant. Speaking of delivery services, the one star im docking is actually ordering our food. We walked in on off-peak hours and it was still swamped- I can understand since it seems fairly high in demand and theres really not much room in the kitchen. But it took us all in total probably 15-20 minutes just to get our orders taken, and the cashier seemed kind of inexperienced and had difficulties processing our food on the till. Meanwhile, delivery drivers kept coming in and going to the front of the line, which is normal for restaurants these days, but due to the small staff it ground us ordering to a halt every time while everyone working went to deal with the delivery. I would have probably been totally fine waiting if I could actually go sit near the planters to wait for my food but we were kind of just awkwardly standing there waiting to pay. Probably the first time in as long as I can remember where we all went well, if were still hungry we cant go back and order more so make sure you get enough. Maybe this would be solved if we contributed to the problem by ordering delivery like everyone else... Despite the long rant the staff was still very nice and would come out and ask questions of how we wanted our meal, what order we wanted it, if we were eating it nearby or taking it somewhere, etc. I would give this place five stars easily for food quality and friendliness of staff but the bad in-person ordering experience bumped it down a bit. Will be coming back for more though, theres so much on the menu I want to try!
Best milk tea ever! Love the services and great rice rolls!
New location for well-known HK-style cafe. Milk tea is their tried-and-true classic. Smaller spot more for takeout. Hainanese chicken was good with fair portion, though the rice wasnt as flavourful as expected. Baked pepper chicken also fair portion, but the sauce was on the tart side with unexpected lemon flavour. Average price for lunch/ light dinner fare for the area.
Take out only. Didn t get rude service as the other reviews suggest, but some of the older staff did struggle with the use of their computer system, but they eventually figured things out. The food wasn t particularly great even by HK cafe standards, but I have to say their milk tea was pretty good. A great alternative to this place would be Phoenix cafe down the street.
The place is good, this lady s service is bad as hell. If you don t speak Cantonese then pay in card, her face will look like you owe her money. Also wouldn t give a second bag for take out unless I insist again and again.( May be she is the owner lol, cash can save her money:) ) I really don t know why but the place should improve their services.
Great place! I come regularly and the service and drinks are great here.
Ordered an egg and ham (only a small piece) sandwich with a medium milk tea. This order costed almost $10. It was so over priced... I could have bought a full meal somewhere else with $10 and look what I found in this sandwich.. hair.. Not worth it. Service : 2/5
Delicious club sandwich and best milk tea in town
love the drinks from Marathon especially cold lemon tea
The shop assistants are very nice and like to joke around. They always help me every time I pass by.
Everything was wrong except the milk tea. Ordered a soup and a rice dish, both came with wrong kind of meat and weird tastes. Seems they were more like a mix of assorted meat and veggie and stuffs cooked all together?! Shame coz we were excited that a new HK food place opened in the area.
great staff, great food! Parking: Street parking available Food : 5/5 |
I tried their 8 oz sirloin bowl on my first visit, and it was amazing! The seasoning was wonderful, and the meat was incredibly tender and juicy. Impressed by my first experience, I decided to go back a second time specifically to try their Hainanese Chicken and rice, a dish I had been meaning to try for a while. Once again, it did not disappoint! The chicken was perfectly seasoned, bursting with flavor, and had a very clean taste. As someone whos tired of fast food and seeks healthier options, I appreciate their whole-food options. Ive enjoyed every dish Ive tried so far, and Im excited to explore something new on my next visit! Its worth noting that the North York cafe is not a dine-in restaurant; its primarily designed for to-go orders. There is limited seating available, consisting of a few high stools for customers waiting for their food to be prepared and no formal seating. I go around 2-3PM and its not busy at all. The customer service and people who work their are also wonderful and always such a delight.
Hainanese chicken rice combo really good and good value. The ginger green onion oil is way too salt though!
Delicious milk tea
Good pleasantly strong milk tea, i had milk tea with icecream and iced lemon tea. I picked vanilla icecream with milk tea and it balances with strong milk tea and it was perfect and highly recommend. Small space, barely can sit and dine in inside. So more of pick up only. Markham s marathon is spacious incase you want dine in experience. But im so happy they opened this here near finch station
Hands down the best Hong Kong milk tea around. Apparently it s renowned and I can see why. Rich, milky and very flavourful. Fish balls was also very delicious. Not to heavy on the curry and decent price for everything. Would recommend and also would come back
This location only has takeout with very limited space (very crowded, can fit around 3 people waiting for takeout). The ordering process was a bit slower than usual (compared to the scarborough location) but it was still acceptable. The food was delicious as usual! Ill be back!
Milk tea is good but very small cup thats free with meal. Very limited choices if u want free tea. Parking not available its best to call ahead n park outside briefly, dash in to pick up ur order. Pork belly soup should be avoided, very salty, few pieces of meat not worth the price.
Note that this is a take out only location. Haven t tried much of their other foods yet but great breakfast and delicious HK style milk tea! Parking: Have to park at Green P on the side street.
Today is my third time ordering from this restaurant via ubereats. The first time was OK but the second and third time we literally had to throw the spaghetti out untouched. This is the first time we had this experience with any restaurant. The food just simply taste unfresh like its been sitting out for days. Had a sour taste to the spaghetti in all dishes ordered like they had already gone bad. The meats were only okay. The Hainan rice was edible buy not that great either. I thought the 2nd time was an exception but when this happened again the 3rd time we knew we would not go back ever again.
A unique addition to a bubble-tea dominated neighborhood that offers rustic, down-to-earth, cheap (by todays standard), Hong Kong food. Their Hong Kong milk tea is renowned (owner won an award in a competition in Hong Kong). Some of their better value items are the Hainan Chicken Rice, Baked Pork/Chicken Chops with rice/pasta, Pork/chicken Chop Buns. Only one table for dine in. You can also eat sitting outside the pavement area or at Hendon Park. 5% discount ordering online through their website.
u can never find a Hong Kong cafe better than Marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Iced lemon tea is amazing. Im looking forward to trying the milk tea soon.
Very tasty. I bought a pork chop with rice today and yin yang (coffee milk tea). Always top notch.
Food
Ordered via ubereat, package were damaged and food taste staled. Quality was getting worse each time. Will never order again and not recommended.
Marathon North York used to have good quality of food. However today experience shocked me. The food is contaminated and the taste of it was nothing but bad. Avoid the takeaway from this location at all cost. If the boss sees this message, please spend more time at this location and monitor the food quality. From a disappointed regular customer
Small quantity lightning protection
5 stars for the milk tea. Food taste good but pricey for the quantity you get. Last time I ordered the pork stomach pepper soup, there was barely any meat in it.
