With the frigid season on its way, the Pine House is one great option for hot warm meals. This restaurant offers a variety of dishes to choose from. We decided on some of the house specials that included the pork on rice and yellow curry. Both dishes were both golden in different ways. The pork on rice slaps your mouth with tons of flavour and texture while the curry although more subtle leaves a very satisfying taste that any appetite can appreciate. To top it off we had the french toast bites as dessert and if you like sweets this one will send you to the moon. Place is a gem and highly recommended cant wait to come back :)
Pine House Cafe perfectly captures the authentic atmosphere of a classic Hong Kong-style cha chaan teng. The portions are generous, the flavors are spot on, and the prices are very reasonable. It’s a fantastic spot for anyone who enjoys the taste of Hong Kong-style comfort food. Highly recommend giving it a try!
A relax Sunday afternoon (around 4:20pm) for late lunch/afternoon tea sets. Restaurant is not crowded at this time. Pretty enjoy. Food in good portion (sized for one adult and no need to pack). The only downside is that the milk tea is not hot enough though. (May be due to the time of the day or number of customers)
this is one of the only HK style restaurants left in North York. thankfully it's pretty good. usually I get the borscht soup which is a bit spicy and has bits of beef in it. I usually get this curry pork chop rice. the curry is really tasty and the pork chops are somehow still a bit crispy even though it's served drenched in the curry sauce. the restaurant is pretty full most nights but everybody who works here is pretty friendly. one thing to watch out for is they charge you for takeout boxes and I never finish my food, so bring your own reusable containers and save the money and the environment.
Very good services and food is tasty. The amazing thing is they accept credit card , which is rare to find among Chinese restaurants in GTA.
After running errands all day, I decided to pick up some food. The service was fast and efficient. The food tasted great, and the portion sizes were huge. The chicken curry, pork chop with onion sauce, and cantonese noodle is a must try!
Bustling Hong Kong (HK) style Cafe with the staples you'd expect from sandwiches, baked rice dishes and snacks such as French toast and Wings. This isnt a place for you to loiter and enjoy the scenery, this is a place where you want to get in and out quickly while still getting ok value. As with most HK style restaurants, maximizing the space means you might end up sitting shoulder to shoulder with a stranger. Food is decent and as mentioned served within a reasonable about of time. Their hunan chicken with rice is pretty tasty and good and they don't skimp on the ginger / scallion oil. I was a tad dismayed however with the wings and fries. For $10.99 I would have expected more than the equivalent of two split chicken wings, while the amount of fries provided gives me the impression that it was an after thought Otherwise from my observations from other patrons, the food quality and portions seem to be reasonable and in some instances generous.
Afternoon tea for two Fair price with the food portion Juicy chicken with the French toast set, club sandwich is also yummy. The Hong Kong style milk tea could be more smooth by increase the proportion of evaporate milk. Overall, I will be a return customer. Recent return, food standard kept well, service kept well, with a last minute afternoon tea item order, the server still try to take in, good work.
Really soild HK Cafe. Been to a lot but this one stands out.
I had the Hai Nam chicken lunch special. Very nice and not expensive at all.
Excellent food. All hong kong style. Best I ever tasted tho it is on the higher price side. You are paying for the quality that comes out of it. And the portions are fairly large. Highly recommend
The best Hong Kong style tea restaurant with reasonable prices, affordable food and excellent service
Ive visited this restaurant a few times because it s close to my home, but the service has consistently been disappointing. This experience has prompted me to write my first Google review and unfortunately, it will also be my last time visiting this restaurant. The service was rude and unfriendly. When we ordered, we requested that the drinks that came with the meal be served later. The server acknowledged this, saying it would take longer time, which we were fine with. However, the drinks ended up arriving midway through our meal. When we reminded them of our request, the server denied that it had been communicated. While finishing our meal, we asked the server for our drinks, and her response was, Oh, now you want them. It will take long, with a dismissive tone. Then, when we asked for toothpicks, the server simply replied, No. Frustrated, I noticed a box of toothpicks near the counter, so I grabbed it myself to share with my parents. A server then came to us and said we weren t allowed to take toothpicks on our own. I explained that we d asked for toothpicks and were told none were available, but she still took the box away. This experience left me disappointed and offended. While the food was okay, I wouldn t recommend this restaurant to anyone due to the poor service.
Nice server, had spaghetti with meat sauce and baked chicken tomato sauce rice hybrid dish, satay beef vermicelli - delicious - large portions - well priced
I waited for over 20mins for the take out which was already ready the whole time but no one bothered to let me know. Wasted so much time
For those who say this is the best HK cafe in the city ..YOU ALL are just WRONG ..... Taste wise its 5/10. There are better just around the corner.... Great Fountain - Agincourt dynasty food court Blooming Garden - Sandhurst circle Cafe le Majestiq - Markham & McNicoll Parkway - Markham Highway 7 strip mall has lots of Chinese fusions ------------------- Atmosphere wise Blooming Garden and Cafe Majestiq are better.
The food here is pretty good for being authentic HK style. It does get crowded at times, so if you come with 3/4 people you can get a whole table to yourself. The breakfast meal combo is the way to go. The sandwiches that come with it is always top quality. (the thickness of the egg shocks me everytime)
.so far so good
Ive been there twice and had the mandarin duck baked rice and the dragon and willow baked rice. They were both delicious. Unfortunately, the second time I was served, I was served by a 40-50-year-old lady with glasses and short brown hair. His attitude was extremely impatient. After ordering for a while, he rolled his eyes, twisted his face, raised his hands, and yelled in a loud voice. There were many people in the restaurant at that time, and my friend and I couldnt hear clearly. Every time I asked him, he had to yell back. Rolling his eyes and objecting loudly. A friend wants to drink soy milk, but he can t supply it. It s not a problem. He can just say Sell instead of No, sell! I don t treat you as my God, but at least I treat you as my God. I am a stranger and can I communicate normally? Li Shen and I have a very friendly attitude towards my friend, and he has never pushed her. Except for the lady on the left, everyone else is fine. If you want to have a good experience, just check your lottery numbers. Good luck I can only say that the service attitude of the lady is really Hong Kong style.
Big portions, enough for two meals! Wok flavor was strong on the flat rice noodles awesome! Definitely returning! Pricing for lunch menu for what you get is below average imo.
Worst Hai Nam chicken rice Ive ever had. Was 95% bones. The broccoli from my other fish had a bug in it. Restaurant is loud and crowded but thats not unexpected.
Poor service
A taste of Hong Kong! Always a nice treat to have Hong Kong cafe food. Portuguese style chicken is delicious but even better when it s pork chop! Ask and they will do it! The sizzling plates are true feasts!
Ive been coming to this restaurant for the past 14 years. The place has paced through two or three different owners already. Today, I tasted their food and it was an amazing and delicious experience.
Always busy. Loved the pork
Went there again today but was discounting somehow. Ordered Chicken teriyaki with egg and rice , the chicken looks like deep fried chicken with source on it which is not the way that chicken teriyaki should look like. The taste of the source was ok but the chicken tasted like overnight KFC chicken added on the rice. Also, I pretty sure they missed the two pieces of broccoli on the plate since the table next to us ordered the same thing and got two extra broccoli on the side of the rice. Tasted good but too much technical issues this time. Left a 5 star review here before, but has to change to 1 star this time.
The food was good, but the service was disappointing. The waitstaff ignored our requests and seemed more focused on waiting for tips than providing attentive service. Overall, it was a frustrating experience. No more visits
A nice and modern cha chaan teng. Attentive and quick service. Food is delicious here and the specials are very reasonable in price and types of dishes offered. Combo includes soup and coffee/tea.
It was my first time to dine in this restaurant, and it happened to be crowded during the lunch rush. However, the waiters in the restaurant were very prompt and they waited for a while before they were seated. The main meal is the Japanese-style grilled chicken chop with omelette and rice. The chicken chop is tender and juicy and the skin is crispy. It was also observed at the scene that almost all of them were regular customers. It can be seen that the restaurants flavor is good in all aspects, and they will visit again to try other different dishes.
Good food. Super rude waitress at cashier. Will not go back to this place regardless. Be aware.
The taste is a bit salty for Cantonese people, but the freshness of the food is okay, its quite satisfactory!
Quality and portion of food are decent. Price is reasonable as well.
The food is good but its really pricey for one menu item with cool drinks.
Reminds me of Hong Kong. Food tastes exactly like Hong Kong cafes. Food : 5/5
4/5 Hong Kong style tea restaurant Recommend the two baked mandarin ducks
Cheap, good quality, large portions, lemon tea is worth a try
Bad service.
The food tastes ok, Hainanese chicken rice is hardly the recommended food, but the chicken is not smooth enough, the chicken oil rice is not fragrant enough, there is no sour radish, only ginger and no other sauces, there is room for improvement!
I ordered Hainanese Chicken as I recalled it had good reviews. Seeing photos from other reviews now, my dish looked very different. Unfortunately this was the worst Hainanese Chicken I ve ever had Every single piece of chicken I got had bones in it, either small pieces of bone or large pieces. These were pieces of the chicken s back, and one wing. Spoke with waiter, she said this is apparently how the dish is made and there was no offer to make a new dish (using the appropriate parts of the chicken that actually have meat on it). Very disappointing experience given that my family regularly enjoyed going for their french toast, milk tea among other dishes. I was excited to try their lunch dishes but was very disappointed. Would have given 3 or 4 stars for food buy Hainanese Chicken made it 2 stars.
Baked pork chop rice- pork was not cooked. Casserole dishes come with soup (borscht is pretty good), but no drink. Honey chicken wings (4) with crispy battered fries was ok, not a big fan. Iced lemon tea ok. Some servers don t speak Cantonese, overall pretty green . Small space and a bit stuffy, but good for them for maximizing the seating.
Great small place but very busy large portions great prices
Fairly recently opened Hong Kong style cafe(chachanteng) that we tried on a whim. Prices are fair, lunch combos include a main, soup, and drink for around $15. Food is excellent. I had the pork neck, borscht, and milk tea. All excellent choices. My wife had the Hainanese chicken rice, which was honestly the best Ive ever had in Toronto or HK. I find Hainanese chicken rice bland and boring, but this one may have converted me. Very busy at lunch. Expect to wait a while on weekends even though they clear tables pretty fast.
Hong Kong styled cafe . Food was good . Generous portions . The price was ok. I would definitely go back to try other dishes .
The worst service I have met until now.
Large selections of lunch menu in large portion. HK Cafe style style. Delicious!
I really enjoyed this place. We got there 5 mins after opening to a small line on a Sunday morning. Got beef curry, Hainanese chicken rice, and the pork jowl rice to share among friends. Very delicious food, plus the interior is clean and pretty modern-looking. Service was fast, no issues. The only heads up I d give is that this place charges a few cents for takeout boxes if you re dining in.
Love their famous chicken rice. Be aware of the rude waitress at the cashier though.
Fast pace HK cafe with lots of selection.
big portion good price
Portion of most dishes is above average. Most of them tastes good especially their .and . Good value. The only disappointment is their French toast is overly greasy.
Just some , my favorite, almost every time keeping quality, drop by try!
Traditional HongKong restaurant. Tasty and the portion is really enough.
Tried their afternoon tea, which includes a hot drink. Prices are quite reasonable, all around $10. The portions are generous. The milk tea is creamy with a good tea flavor, very enjoyable. The chicken thigh is juicy and tender. The fried chicken thigh is delicious The fish fillet is fried to perfection too. Highly recommend the peanut butter toast. The peanut butter oozes out with each bite, incredibly satisfying!!!
This is my to go place since I love their borch or tomato soup that comes with their lunch menu. Their foods are not bad at all. The hai nam chicken is the best so far.
Stumbled on this place on a Wednesday, and it was so good that I returned on a Thursday. Honestly, thinking about going back today too....
You ll find some of the better Western-Style Hong Kong cuisine here. The tables are evenly spaced out and the staff is great. We ve come a few times now and we have always like the sizzling platters. The meat is always tender and juicy which results in flavorful bites all the way through.
The cafe shop is too bad on the space. You need to seat with other people in the same table
The quality of the waiters is very low
The borscht soup is incredibly delicious and always a favorite of my wife and me. Additionally, the traditional Chinese dishes are excellent, and the milk tea is superb.
I have been to Pine House at the other two locations and felt quite satisfied with their food quality. Now I could say the food selection and taste are consistent among all 3 restaurants.
Decent brunch place with a variety of Asian items on the menu. The food and service are fine, but its always too crowded and noisy.
Hong Kong style fast food and price is reasonable
This is one place I do not need to return. My experience definitely differ from the existing reviews. Service was worse than I expected (I did not expect much already). Seating arrangement was so tight and uncomfortable. We had the rice noodle with beef and the baked pork chop rice. The food portions were big but Id rather have small portions that taste good. Usually HK Cafe would at least have good milk tea but they failed at that too. All in all the only acceptable item was the Borscht soup.
Good food n busy always. Price is very reasonable, their egg sandwich is the best in town so far. Juicy n delicious. The Hannan chicken rice is great. It comes with soup n cafe or tea. Very good deal! Their satay beef rice noodle must order. A lot of beef in it compared to others. They are closed on Tuesday. Sometimes parking is a bit challenge during lunch break. Service is efficient! This is one of my favourite HK cafe in North York area. Parking: Its busy during lunch hour
This place is very busy for a Monday lunch, food took a little longer than the Pine House. Turn over was fairly quick. Hai Nam Chicken w. Chicken Oil Rice was good would been much better if the rice came hot instead of warm, chicken is very flavourful and tender. . Stir-fried Beef Rice Noodles was not good noodle was off didn t use enough oil when stir-frying. The both meal served with soup and drink. Parking: There s other restaurants and supermarket using the same lot can be hard to find parking during peak hours
Today I ordered a plate of fried chicken slices with cold melon and rice. I ate two pieces of chicken slices. I first realized that some of the chicken slices were raw. I told the waiter and he went back to the kitchen to cook them for me. He didn t apologize at all. Maybe the kitchen is too busy.
Visited this HK Cafe in the grocery plaza for dinner at 6:30 pm, easily securing a table. The bustling atmosphere picked up around 7 pm. The menu, slightly more extensive than typical HK cafes, features regular casserole dishes, traditional HK fare like fried rice and noodles, and classic snacks like thick toast. Opted for the beef brisket casserole and Hainanese chicken, both accompanied by complimentary soups (no lemon or milk tea). The casserole, surprisingly large, could easily satisfy 2-3 people, but it leaned heavily on onions with a scarcity of beef. The neutral sauce avoided excessive saltiness or oiliness. In contrast, the chicken dish erred on the smaller side. Efficient and pleasant staff facilitated a smooth dining experience. Payment via credit card is accepted, with no cash discounts offered. Note that the last call for food is at 8 pm. Despite some minor nuances, this HK Cafe in the grocery plaza is a decent option for a satisfying meal in a bustling setting. Vegetarian options: Dishes available for all styles Dietary restrictions: Can ask them to exclude items if undesirable Parking: Lots of parking available Kid-friendliness: Child friendly atmosphere Wheelchair accessibility: Accessibility
The fried noodle dish is big enough and tastes good
We ordered Baked Portuguese Beef Brisket Rice. Only one small piece beef inside , the rest are potatoes and rice for regular price, not a special price
I visited this location a lot and I used to order their afternoon tea special - pork chop noodle as it is delicious and I liked their Chinese milk tea as well. I am a good customer and I never have any issue with anyone who works in this restaurant, I paid my bill with more than 10% tips every time. About a week ago, I went there and ordered the same afternoon tea special, after I finished my meal and paid for my bill, the waitress who handed me the change yelled at me suddenly with a very unrespectable high tone in front of everyone there, she said :Why you are eating the same pork chop noodle every time, dont you feel bored or do you have any problem? she repeated the same question twice! I was shocked by this sudden ridiculous verbal attack and I looked at her instantly, I can see her unfriendly fierce eyes were staring at me up and down and the other customers at the same time. I never have any verbal communication with this lady before, neither did I know why she was so upset with me about what I was eating on that day. I can feel the lady who was sitting beside me was scared by this incident at that moment. So, without saying anything to her, I left the restaurant immediately because I didnt know what is going on with this waitress who was shouting and harassing me in front of everyone there, and it seems that I was a criminal at the crime scene but I did pay my bill with tips, I also concerned about my personal safety to stay there longer as I dont know what will happen next. I was not intended to write this review but after I shared this terrible experience with my friends and relatives, they all have the same thoughts in their mind ----- Public Safety Concern. That is why I posted now.
The Hainan chicken at this location is so far the best. Great value for the lunch combo. Serve fast and kids friendly.
Ordered the curry beef rice and pork chop with onion gravy. Both dishes came with a soup and drink and ordered a cold lemon tea. Both dishes were good. Was really busy when we got there at around 12:30. Waitress forgot too bring us the cold drink and 2 hot milk tea. Had to tell them half way through our meal. The waitress was hesitant to get us the drinks thinking that we already got it and tried to scam them for the drinks. Didnt like that accusing customers to be this lthieves for some cheap drinks (milk teas). Will not be back.
Finally gave this place a try after years of coming here and regret not coming here sooner! Food is very delicious, good prices, large portions. Highly recommend!
They have generous portion. Definitely will come back.
Heres the thing. For me customer service is the most important element. A restaurant can have the best food but its always spoiled if the service is insulting. Needless to say, that isnt the case here at pine house on Leslie. The food itself is well portioned and tasted good. We got the curry chicken and Haianese chicken lunch special, not too expensive and tasted good. Not Michelin star amazing obviously, but its definitely above average for a HK cafe. The place is bustling and busy with all kinds and sorts. Not like the usual chinese places I go to which is very elitist to Asians only, this one is more than friendly to everyone. All in all, I had a very nice experience here and will definitely come back. Shout out to the server who did above and beyond for me when I ordered my drink wrong and replaced it immediately without charge when I told them my mistake. I think his name was Zeon? Typical Chinese places will double down on your mistake. But this one understood the value of customer service. And heres hoping my next visit will be just as pleasant as my first.
Do not expect too much! It is an average HK style cafe. The servers are rude but not offensive.
As good as Hong Kong
One of the best Hong Kong style cafe that I ever had in Toronto ! Ordered beef brisket noodle, baked pork chops rice and fried chicken thigh. Food are delicious. As a local Hongkonger, approved! Food : 5/5
Fast HK Chinese Food was very good. Well worth the price. Dishes were very big. I think its cheaper than McDonalds and tastes better. They have all day breakfast. Lots of choices. Their bread is amazingly soft. Get the egg sandwich. The place is really packed on weekends but lineups are fast. Their milk tea is very good and it comes with most meals at lunch. They have all booths so its very comfortable. Love their food. Will come again.
Terrible service. Unbelievable. Even worse than most HK-style cafe in Hong Kong. Particularly the short lady with short hair. She suddenly pushed the divider toward us and assigned three customers next to us without saying a word (at least she can say excuse me???). When we tried to tell her it was too crowded, she just replied: it is a six-persons seat and they need to leave room for coming customers and then walked away. SO RUDE. UNBELIEVABLE! There was only 30-40% occupied at that time and still only 60-70% occupied when we left. So what she said was a complete nonsense. To the management: Train your staffs well to know how to properly serve customers. Don t yell at them and don t ignore reasonable complaints.
A better restaurant than Hong Kong
Went here twice to eat their lunch set menu, it is a super Hong Kong style tea restaurant, basically all the tea dishes/regular meals you want are available, and the large portions are worth it. Baked Mandarin Duck (Baked Pork Chop Rice with Tomato Sauce + Baked Cheese Bolognese Spaghetti) ($14.99) The portion is huge. You can basically split the roasted pig noodles into two meals and eat half of it. The pork chop is so big and juicy, and the fried rice base is delicious. The spaghetti has a lot of meat sauce and is so rich in flavor that it doesnt get enough to dry out. Chicken Chop Rice with Scallion Oil ($13.99) The skin of the chicken chop is well fried and the texture of the chicken is tender and smooth. I had a lot of scallion oil at noon! ! ! The meal is really top-notch, so satisfying~ During the lunch period, there are also included soups and food. The soups are of good quality and are not like MSG soup. Matsuyas decoration, seating and food taste are very similar to Hong Kong Cha Kee. If you want to eat Cha Kee, it will definitely not disappoint you. It tastes great as soon as you eat it, and the portion is large, so you can cover the table often~ Twice for Lunch at Matoya: A True Taste of Hong Kong! Their lunch sets are a steal, with huge portions and classic Hong Kong-style cafe dishes. Yuan Yang Baked Combo ($14.99) A generous mix of Tomato Sauce, Baked Pork Chop Rice and Baked Cheese Meat Sauce Pasta. So big, it could be two meals! Scallion Oil Chicken Chop Rice ($13.99) - Perfectly fried chicken with a smooth, tender texture, lavishly topped with scallion oil. Their lunch set also includes a quality soup, not just MSG-filled. Matoya s ambiance and flavors will transport you to a Hong Kong-style cafe. Great taste, great value, perfect for repeat visits!
Great place for a quick meal. Can t go wrong with any of the fried rice, pork cutlet or deep fried French toast. Their Chinese soup that comes with the meal is so very good!
Came here on a Sunday afternoon for two and they were almost full house! We ordered two tea time sets and they were alright. Egg sandwich was fluffy but not overloaded with egg (dont we all hope for him HK cafes?!) and our bite site French toast was pretty good as well. What was disappointing were the drinks. Hot milk tea was too strong/bitter and coarse tasting. Triple sugar and still couldnt hide the bitterness. Cold lemon Lea was also a miss with poor tasting tea. Its too bad we didnt snap photos of those. Overall I probably will not come back again as there are better options up on highway 7. Also a note that parking in the plaza (Finch & Leslie plaza) can be tough as well, FYI!
Went during their soft opening, the dish I happen to order was just overly oily and felt a bit uncomfortable after finishing it, also the spiral pasta was replaced with macaroni without prior notice
They finally got rid of the long-list menu and saved the popular dishes. I enjoyed too bad its no longer on the menu! Food : 5/5
Came here on a weekday lunch and it was packed! I ordered the Hainanese chicken, which came with a generous portion of chicken, a side of rice and scallion ginger sauce. I also ordered an iced lemon tea, which was not too sweet and had a nice tea and lemon flavour. Everything was so good! Probably the best Hainanese chicken I ve had in a while.
Such a cozy place to go. My boyfriend and I got the Eel fried rice and the brunch combo of veggie soup and omelette. Which came with milk tea, delicious. Definitely a must try place!
Eww. Hair in food. Terrible service. Bad customer service. We went to try a newish Hong Kong cafe that opened up recently at the Finch/Leslie plaza. We were greeted by the host which told us to sit at a table only to be asked to go back to the front and wait again. After some miscommunication from the wait staff, we were asked to go back and sit at the same table again. Great way to start our dining experience. We ordered a curry brisket with rice and black pepper fried noodles with beef. The curry brisket with rice came with an extra hair that we did not ask for. Feeling grossed out but hungry, we complained to our waitress and she nonchalantly replaced our meal with rice that had no hair this time. The curry was average at best and the black pepper fried noodles was bland. We were half done our meal and informed the waitstaff that we were heading outside to have a smoke and will be back to finish our meal. Upon coming back, we find all of our food was removed from our table. We complained to the waitstaff about our missing food and drinks, and it took them 5 mins to acknowledge their mistake. They were so cheap that they only replaced one meal and one drink... even though both our drinks and meals were not finished. Very typical Chinese restaurant that does not put customer service first. Garbage food, garbage service. Will not come back again.
Very stingy in ingredients...probably lots of MSG too
Worst customer service, doesn t even allow customers to use its washroom. Food price is not as cheap as it s customer service. Skip it!
I am so pleasantly surprised with discovering this restaurant by accident. The decor must be designed professionally by an excellent designer, practical, comfortable, fresh coloured. Even the washroom floor is so esthetically pleasing and practical. The egg sandwich is the best in Toronto, even better than the average Hong Kong standard. The milk tea is also better than the other current prize winning establishment in Toronto. Service is surprising good, not like the average Hong Kong fast busy cafe. I came across a server Yvonne, she is attentive, caring and pleasant to talk to. I returned several time to this restaurant after my first encounter. Never been disappointed since. Thanks the owner for contributing such a high standard of quality into the GTA cafe choices. Well done. Dr. Fred Hui
The food is delicious and the portion is big! The staff is also very friendly.
Congratulations on soft opening, however I feel the food is about the same quality from the hk cafe before this one while at a slightly higher price but this one makes up with food portion, renovation and service. Recommended for lunch and afternoon tea. The borsch is amazing. The pasta taste very easternized, I liked it. P.S. PLEASE FIX YOUR DOOR HANDLE.
Food servings were adequate for two people. We had beef curry and yeng cheuw fried rice. They came with soup and coffee which was HK style. The taste was good, especially the curry. I wanted to try their red bean ice cream though but the server said they were too busy to take orders for desserts. I understand that it s a holiday and there s even a line outside, however, they shouldn t have given us the menu if they didn t want to serve them anyway. Waiting time can also be improved since we waited for almost 45mins before our food came. Regardless, our experience was fine and we might come back next time.
very similar to what I experienced in HK, good price and big portion since soup and drink are included Parking: go before 11:15am
The score will be based on the post-meal feeling at around 8:00 pm on March 2, 2023. First of all, this Matsuya restaurant s baked rice comes with soup but not tea. The baked pork chop rice, worth $14.99, has a moderately juicy, salty and sweet taste. The two bone-in pork chops could be a little soft but are still OK. The fried rice has a good texture and taste. Okay, the portion is enough for me and the old folks to eat for two meals. I chose borscht soup for dinner. Personally, I think the taste meets the five standards that a Hong Kong-style tea restaurant should have. It s rich enough, thick enough, hot enough, peppery enough, sour enough, sweet enough, and tomatoey enough. I think It is among the top 3 borscht drinks in GTA. Let s have some milk tea without trying. The place is of moderate size, the decoration is clean, and there is no problem with the toilet because there is no help. Credit card payments are accepted here (as expected, cards prefixed with A are not accepted). In summary, the system will help until its quality deteriorates.
First time at Google Reviewing a restaurant, the service here can be regressed by more than 20 years. I couldn t even take a bite of the pasta that was just served. A 50-year-old lady picked up the cutlery that fell on the table next to me. It bounced up and leftover leftovers from other people s meals splashed on me. There is food in the eyes At that moment, I didn t take it seriously at all. I just waited for her to finish collecting the dishes and called her over to remind her that the remnants of the tableware you accidentally dropped splashed into the food and my eyes. But she didn t even say a word of apology. , looked at my plate and asked me blankly, how about that? You want to change a plate, right? I still didnt react at that moment, so I said, Can you please change the plate? Later, when I was wiping the oil from my eyes, I suddenly realized, Dont I deserve a sincere apology? So I walked to the front desk to narrate the incident. The 50-year-old lady quit and shouted, I agreed to change the plate. What else do you want? I said you splashed on me, and you didnt even give a basic apology, otherwise I wouldnt have come over and said it. Finally, the eldest sister said in front of so many guests in the restaurant that I apologized, and then took off her apron and said she quit... Oh my god, sister, you talk nonsense to people of your age, and you even take off your apron to act. Its not easy for you to make money, so Im still polite to you, but you really dont know how to behave, and you are so disrespectful to the elderly in public! This restaurant manager, if you have surveillance, please check it out!
We had lunch here for the first time since they opened a few months ago. We have been going to the other location on Steeles for a while now and wanted to try out the food here. They offer all day breakfast options and lunch specials with the regular menu meals. All meals come with hot or cold drink and lunch regular set meals also come with choice of soup. We ordered one breakfast meal that had ham omelette and borscht soup with pasta and one chicken with Portuguese sauce on rice. Ours drinks and soup came shortly after we ordered and meals about 5mins later. We ordered Hong Kong style milk tea which we found very good tasting and the iced tea could have been better. The omelette and borscht soup with pasta was very filling and would is good for a all day breakfast option. The chicken with Portuguese sauce was a bit on the spicy side but it was very good also very filling average size person to eat. This meal came with soup and I had borscht. We both enjoyed our meals and service was friendly and polite. This restaurant can seat about 50-60 people and has booth and has booth seating for 4 or 6 people.
The free borscht tastes great (I used to give a lot of beef, but no more...). The eel and pork neck stone pot rice is also very good, no matter the texture, heat or seasoning. I also ordered a large chop. I thought the steak was the best, but the chicken and pork chops were just average. Ill try other dishes when I get a chance.
The environment is neat and clean, the food is delicious and plentiful, and the service is friendly and friendly. My friends and I were satisfied, so we will definitely come back again.
Really busy around lunch time, and seems to be very popular among Cantonese people. Food is great, the server is really busy but still tries to accommodate everyone. Would come again
I would say service is subpar, they are helpful. But the server s answers are blunt and sounded annoy, not sure if they are the same group of servers from the previous restaurant because I got that vibe. Other branches are much better, both food quality and services
Good portion good price
I was looking for a Hong Kong themed cafe because i wanted simple comfort food that has free parking. Pine House Cafe in North York checked all these categories. When i got there at around 4pm, the restaurant was busy. I think its because there is a special afternoon menu for fairly cheap that includes a drink for free. I ordered a bowl of luncheon meat with egg rice noodle soup. It took a while for it to get to me. The guy beside me who came later got his order first. The egg was carelessly cracked with shell still on it. And the soupbase was bland. Although cheap, i was disappointed. I would have made a better bowl of soup noodle myself.
Hands down, this place have the best Chicken Rice compared to all the HK-style cafes I have ever tasted in the GTA. I don t eat chicken skin because they taste like a gooey mess of fat to me, but the way they make it here is so bouncy, it doesn t even taste like fat. That s the way it should be, Asia-style. And in between the skin and chicken meat, there is a layer of gelatin. The last time I had chicken like this was when I was in Taiwan. So delish! The chef that made this must be pro. Anyways, love this cafe. Good price point. The other regular staples that Hk-style cafes normally serve are also very good. I always get their Borsht soup and butter bun. Also love their egg sandwiches too!
Good HK style in the area . Very busy . Need patience
Lunch includes soup and choice of cafe tea. Good deal for less than $20 per person
Racist restaurant. i have been a customer here for the past 10 year, it was great before but they renovated and change a lot. we were so infuriated by the staff here, the experience was absolutely taunting. If u dont speak canton dont come here because they will serve everyone else but u. we waited 15 min to put down our order kept waving no one came, then half anhour more for two main dish( there was two separate table that arrived 15-25 min after us all gotten their food, worse was a table of four came half anhour after us and got their food the same time as the two of us) the dessert they messed up sent out the wrong one and try to cover up with some cocpowder(they said it s supposed to be like this but no we had it before and its not like this, the wing hair a piece of hair in it(they refunded the wings so i guess i should be thankful they took some responsibility ), order spaghetti got rice. overall it was very traumatizing ! will not return
We had a very rude waitress, as soon as we told her we are ready to order she said to us hurry up and tell me what you want I m very busy! And I told her the letter on the item I wanted to eat U and she said No you need to read the whole thing out to me in Chinese so I don t get it wrong! She was wearing a white mask with Canadian flags. Very disappointed with the service , food was okay but she ruined my experience.
Not very good food and pretty bad service. Id recommend other places around here.
Very bad service
Very attentive staff. Food is great and reasonably priced. Recently renovated.
soup is different from the Scarborough store,. Hai Nam chicken and rice should have 3 different kind of source, hot, thick soy source and green onion,it only has green onion source. Food can be better... Food : 3/5
Brand new cafe and family restaurant.First time to try cup soup. But the famous Hong Kong style s milk tea is good too
My wife and I go to this cafe for lunch because it has just been newly opened. Also, it is located near our friend s home. So, we get together and try it out. It is still very busy when we get there at 1:30 pm. As we observed, its setting is quite crowded and noisy when all tables are filled by customers. it makes us quite uncomfortable. We order two sandwiches and two fried rice (one being chicken and the other other being pork chop). These fried rice was also renowned as their signature dishes. To our disappointment, all of our orders can only be rated as average, though their appearance look good and delicious. Beides, its service is average too. For instance, they will bring the tea to you only after repeated requests.
Decent Hong Kong dishes
Nice modern decor with comfortable booth seating. Good value for your money as their dish portions large. Their hainanese chicken was a standout, chicken meat was fresh and silky. Tomato pork chop rice was enormous and flavorful. Their breakfast specials with noodle/soup, drink and an egg sandwich was very filling Gaining popularity as evident by the crowds on weekday morning/afternoons
For a restaurant that closes at 9pm, their last call is 8pm. We ve tried multiple times to dine here, and we ve been repeatedly turned away despite arriving as early as 8:10pm. Evening-diners beware..
Good for afternoon tea and hong kong style food
This place is a family favorite. Really good and solid meals for breakfast lunch and dinner!
The dishes are big enough for two people and or save for the other day. And the food are delicious. Good.
Good food, friendly service.
What a great album, it s like two people Unfortunately, there are too many people at noon and you have to wait. It s so noisy A large number of silver-haired diners, The average age is estimated to be over fifty Seeing my father-in-law and mother-in-law ordering a meal for both of them is not surprising The price is reasonable, the soup dumplings and drinks are included, and the taste is average There is a surprise when you bake two mandarin ducks. Baked Chicken Chop Rice with Tomato Sauce and Spaghetti Bolognese Sauce But the smell is too strong. I can t stand the heavy taste. I want to try their thick egg noodles next time
It was quite pack when we came on a Thursday night. the food portions and taste are not bad. It was interesting cuz google says it closes at 9pm, but before 8pm they were already doing last call and at 8pm around 2 couples came in and they declined them saying the kitchen is closed.
Spaghetti and borchst soup is
This is our go to cafe on the weekends. Usually we would go for afternoon tea. This time we tried their dinner menu. The portion is big, might be enough for two meals for some ppl. Afternoon tea combos or all day breakfast combos would come with soup and a drink, but not for dinner menu. Staff are always nice. Sometimes the place can get loud if too many ppl.
Pretty busy lunchtime. Lunch comes with soup and coffee or tea. Food is good with good quantity.
Friendly, good food at the right price with big portions, just the seats are not too comfortable
I ordered a pineapple bun with butter. It supposed to be hot and cripsy, buts just warm and soft, looks like they bought the bun several hours ago and just microwaved it for 30 seconds before severing it. Taste horrible and its even worse than the one I could make at home (itll taste much better even they just use oven to reheat it). VERY DISAPPOINTED.
Really good value for money
Great place. Fried rice noodle with beef was really good. Staff are very friendly. Cold lemon tea was very good. Much try and you must visit. Food
Efficient service and authentic HK teahouse flavours. The restaurant is usually so busy that it can feel cramped on weekends. The waiting staff work hard to deliver prompt service to the customers.
Wow! I ordered the hot plate 12 oz sirloin steak bundle meal. I asked for medium rare. It is really medium rare. The cook did not overcook. The meal also includes soup, bread, ice lemon tea and ice cream! It is a big bargain and tasty!
Dirty chopsticks made me feel that the experience was not good
Pine House is an above average HK style cafe. The food quality is decent. The portion of some dishes like Baked Pork Chop on a bed of Friend Rice casserole is huge. I always doggy bag that. This place gets busy, so plan your arrival accordingly.
Do NOT go to the Finch and Leslie branch. When I lived in Newmarket I liked their branch up there so after I moved back to North York I went there again. Today I went to buy my son his lunch. They said twenty minutes but it ended up more than 40 minutes. A few employees asked me what I ordered and I politely told them. Then I finally asked why it was taking so long. One woman at the counter asked me what I ordered so I told her AGAIN. As it turns out it has been sitting on the counter for God knows how long. I asked why no one told me and she had the AUDACITY to say its my fault as I did not ask. AM I SUPPOSED TO ASK what is this every time a bag of food comes out???????? I was thoroughly pissed and when I got home my son was starving. I called them and told them they could go to Hell if they go on with an attitude like that. Do not EVER go there.
portion size goes craaaazzzy fr
The food was ok but what kind of restaurant charge for a cup of ice water . So stupid will not come back . Never ever happened before . Actually never happened in my life
Good portion for its price. Last call is 8PM
Dear restaurant owner, when the customers asked you nicely what happened to our order it very delayed and it was so obvious all customers who came before us already got their order??!! This elderly waitress decided to answered us with dark face and full of altitude that this sounds like u need to continue waiting your order went to different kitchen counter. She didn t even care to go and check our order. So we decided to walked out and canceled the whole order. Ridiculous .
The service is very good and the portion is large. I recommend the fried beef river.
I feel like Im in Hong Kong
The dish portion was good. The taste was good. Just be aware the last call of the restaurant is at 8pm although the store closes at 9 pm. Also, most of the dish orders include a soup in cup but unllke other HK cafe restaurant, the drink is not include. If you want a coffee or tea, you need to order it as a side order.
Its a great representation of a Hong Kong style diner, and the dishes are better than the average diner. Real ingredients, pretty consistent quality. I always love a good milk tea and borscht, and these were 5/5. Baked pork chop rice, Portuguese sauce rice good too. Hainan chicken rice was ok. Generous portions.
Food is good, standard Hong Kong-style dishes. Portions are generous. Prices are fair. Place does get busy, and there may not be a lot of separation between tables. Note: takeout containers cost $0.25 each.
Best deal in town for HK food
Pine House Cafe in North York provided an okay experience. The ambiance was cozy, service was good, and the cafe was clean. However, the food was mediocre, lacking in flavor and creativity for the prices charged. Its a decent spot for a quick bite, but dont expect culinary excellence.
I love this place I wish had discovered it long time ago since I live 4 minutes away! I visit the place few times a week for lunch or dinner to avoid cooking ,dishes, Let me tell you I get impressed every time I visit , amazing ppl helping me every time , good quality meals made from fresh ingredients prepared with passion!! I would give this place 7 I wish if they can add side dish sauté Chinese broccoli And a delicious desserts made from tofu, coconut ,matcha ! Thank you for taking the time reading my review!
The restaurant was already full when we arrived at 11:30 am. The table was ready in about 10 mins. This is only a small restaurant, mostly booth seating. Some seated with a plastic separation used in the pandemic period. The menu has great varieties, including Hong Kong style snacks, which was the main purpose of my visit. The food quality of what we ordered was quite good, especially the Han Nam Chicken Rice. The satay beef Im soup was having too little satay sauce and discounted the overall taste of the Satay beef in instant noodle (this is the most popular breakfast dish for Hong Kong pepple). The Hong Kong style milk tea is really good. It is not too strong but with the right amount of tea and milk. One more surprise for the little restaurant is their Borscht soup. Although I would not say it is authentic, it is tasted really yummy. It is simply good.
I love lunch here
Good HK style restaurant, the price is ok, the portion is big, even bigger than Congee Q, lots of selection to choose from, recommend.
The food is really delicious, but its a shame it was ruined by the terrible service from the lady taking the food order over the phone for delivery
Friendly
Decent hk style food at a good price!
Nice decorations in this restaurant and the food is better than expected. The portions I got were quite large and tasted good, and service here was excellent. Will definitely come back to this place.
Good food and services
7:56PM last call Parking: Free parking in the plaza.
The food is delicious and the prices are reasonable. The restaurant is clean, including the seating area. However, the service provided may not be exceptional.
It is a little bit pricey and the steak is overcooked. The chicken looks a little bit bloody.
Our family of 5 went there for dinner tonight. Ordered steak combo n some other dishes. The steak combo comes with rice or spaghetti serve on a side and it tasted completely plain n dry without any sauce. The food look good BUT really lacking flavor on all the dishes that we order. At the end of dinner we asked for 2 boxes to pack up left over they charged us 25cent for each box. Their foods tasted average. It got busy very quickly and noisy.
The portion size is average, but the taste is good. The lunch set also includes soup and a beverage.
101 percent Hongkong style tea n meals shop. Chinese from Hong Kong would it the most. Good selection of food n nice staff. Lot of free parking. Need to line up for seat on weekends. Be cautious. Come n see.
Crowded, busy and noisy restaurant with very squeezy seats. Serving breakfast all day. Big portion of food but a bit bland, not necessarily bad. Definitely carb overload with a plate of fried noodle (lunch menu) probably enough for 3 medium eaters. People are constantly waiting in line for table, hence server will very quickly try to remove ur plate even when u r still eating!
Update Nov 26/23 just went back for lunch and there was a lineup already before they opened this morning. Ordered the 2 dishes that our friends had recommended Hai Nam chicken with rice and the chicken with Portuguese sauce on rice. With the borscht soup this time. The soup was actually very flavourful and hot! Both dishes we ordered was very tasty so we were satisfied. Still was too much food for us for lunch. Reasonable pricing for this type of restaurant. Will be back! Nov 24/23 On Friday evening we were looking for a quick meal and as we were walking by the Pine House Cafe - it was quite full so we decided to try it. Luckily we got a table quickly and was served hot tea shortly. Looked around to get an idea as to what was popular. Saw that several tables ordered the signature pork chop rice w cheese so we ordered that plus the fried noodles with bitter melon and pork ribs toppings. The orders came with their house soup, very tasty. When their signature pork chop with rice came it was borderline cold to warm. We didn t like that very much. Felt like it was just scooped up and served cafeteria style from a warmer. The fried noodle did not have much sauce with the toppings. The pork ribs tasted like it was boiled before it was pan fried with the bitter melon. Did not enjoyed the dishes at all due to the lukewarm state when it arrived. And the ribs were over cooked with no texture. Later I did see a table ordered a dish of shredded white chicken which looked good. Overall I will try this restaurant again but order something else just to give them another try. Service was okay for a fast food restaurant.
Clean. Portions are really good. Kids liked the food. Food was also pretty good.
Good food and prices
If you like HK cafes I would recommend this place. The atmosphere is good, its clean, the servers are responsive and nice, and the food is quite decent. Food - it is above average for HK cafes. Some items in particular are better than others. I would recommend the beef or chicken curry (get beef) if you dont know what to get. The portion sizes are filling. The lunch sets include the entree, a soup, and a tea. Atmosphere/cleanliness - its noisy as youd expect but the decor is very comfy. Cleanliness- These are some of the cleanest washrooms Ive seen in an Asian restaurant. Service - its good considering how busy they are. Id recommend coming before 11:30am if you are going on a Saturday to ensure you have a table.
Typical Hong Kong style cha chaan tang - fast pace. Waitresses are attentive to dine in customer but not for take out. Restaurant play favorites and will process the take out for frequent customers first. If you don t mind waiting, food is great. The only downside of the menu is that they don t have breakfast, only
The dish that i ordered this time around was the chicken with Portuguese sauce on top of rice, but I would actually recommend the curry. Also love the iced lemon tea, and the borscht soup was SO flavourful. Would recommend the lunch special when you come! Overall: 4/5
I really like coming here for really HK food but today I arrived at 8:05pm and they won t seat me, saying kitchen is closed. hello? your hours are till 9pm. shut down your kitchen closer to your restaurant closing time or change your hours of operations.
Overall good hk style cafe. Price is decent as portions were quite large - it can be for 2/3 meals. The soup was a little watered down but not bad. I ordered the chicken teriyaki which did not disappoint, crispy and juicy. The place can be chaotic as it gets loud in such a small environment. Well worth a try!
